On a recent snowy Thursday night, we were looking for a place to grab a hearty dinner to satisfy our post-mountain hunger. Little did we know that everything but Pizza Hut in this town closed by 8. Luckily we stumbled onto the Fairplay Hotel...OK, we drove up and the sign said they served food until 9. Rumor has it that the hotel is haunted, but we were not about to let that get in the way of our growling stomachs. The girls all ordered the open-face turkey sandwich and Joel got the BELT (Bacon, fried-Egg, Lettuce, Tomato) The rustic setting made us all a little skeptical of how good the food would be, but when our plates were put in front of us, we were practically giddy. The turkey was AWESOME...we're not talking processed, you-don't know-where-it-comes-from turkey, but real off-the-bird turkey. The potatoes and gravy were great too. I think we all cleaned our plates. And Joel is now a big fan of the BELT. I think we'll be seeing that around our house soon. The prices were extremely reasonable for the amount of food. I think the turkey was $7.95 and the BELT was $8.95. We sat in the bar, which has a beautiful old wood bar, but the dining room looked pretty charming as well. I know the next time I find myself in Fairplay and I am hungry, I will definitely stop by.

We have only been to the bar to order food, but this place is so cute! The bar looks straight out of the Old West, as if no one ever changed anything, but just kept it up. We ordered their pizza and it was really good. Thin crust, good sauce, tasty. We had a drink while we waited and the bartender is exactly what you hope for in a small town- chatty, friendly, and knowledgeable, and seems to know everyone who walks in the door. We will definitely stop in again!

This place is falling apart, the water barely got warm, check in was a joke, no amenities to speak of, the directv gets about 6 channels, the tv is probably 20 years old. Poor value, I would not stay again

Hands down best bang for your buck! Don't go to some chain like Hotel 8. The beds were soft and comfortable. Yes, it is not fancy, the water takes a while to warm up, the flooring makes sounds, the floor board heaters make sound, the TV's are not modern, bla bla bla, leave all of this behind you! These things are all part of the charm! My friend and I stopped here on our way through from Denver on the motorcycles and loved every bit of it. My suggestion to anyone wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the norm should stop by, stay, soak up some of the history and do something out of the norm! DO IT! Support our local business and forget the other chain hotels! P. S. we will be back to follow up on the haunting stories that I have been told. We were hoping something would happen but did not experience anything. We were also so tired after the long day of riding that I don't think either of us could be awakened by anything. Oh, and I believe there is another link on here for the hotel. Look for The Fairplay Volition Hotel. I will post this same review on there too. I will also post some pictures of it here shortly.

Had another great stay there this weekend. So much less expensive then staying at Breck and it's only 40 min to Abasin. The rooms are beautiful and have a wonderful ambiance about them. It makes a ski weekend special. The owner is very nice and has a unique vintage bar that was packed. It reminded me of the cool mountain bars in West Virginia were everyone gets along and has good stories to tell. I can't wait to stay here again! Great value and place to stay!

My friend and I wanted a place to stay so we could get up early for our climb up Mt. Quandary but did not want to pay Breckenridge prices. We hit the jackpot with this hotel. It is updated, but still holds its old-days charm. The room we had had two queen size beds, a pull-out couch, a sitting room and private bath. We got all this for less than $90 per night with the doggie surcharge! We met the owner who was one of the friendliest hotel managers I have ever met and ate dinner in the restaurant which is downstairs from our room. The menu contained several vegetarian options(!!), which was nice considering I had brought all my own food just in case. I highly recommend this hotel and will be back to not only hit Quandary again but see if I can locate the ghost on the property.

Very pleasant experience. Courteous proprietor and staff. Excellent dining and bar. Great price for amenities offered. Fitness center close by. Good location for outdoor sports activities. I will stay here again when I returned to Fairplay.
