Jennys was not what I expected. They had creative entrees and appetizers and even the hamburgers were oval. I got pickled jalapenos stuffed with peanut butter and a larger bowl of homemade soup. The soup was served with rolls and fruit! Where do you find that? For dessert, the Dutch apple pie was probably the best I have ever had. My dining companion had burger and fries and the fries are round sliced potatoes But they are the best! Yummo to the max. My only complaint was I ordered potato and bacon soup and it turned out to be chicken broth like the kind leftover from boiling chicken, with no chicken but pieces of potatoes and a whole slice of bacon. Lots of grease And clumps of white and yellow chicken fat. Service was fun. I have never been heckled by a waiter before, with a big grin on his face. I would gladly return, but would ask more questions about what the soup was like. They also had Parisian onion soup with a chicken base rather than normal beef base.

What can be said about world-renowned Jenny's that hasn't already been said? Known the world over for fast, friendly service and great breakfast. Breakfasts are solid and hearty. You get far more than what you pay for here and let it be said that Jenny makes a mean pancake... a HUGE, mean pancake. The bacon is good, the bread buttered, the breakfast sandwich cheesy, and the homemade salsa chunky. Definitely worth a stop if you ever find yourself in Empire, but why would you? Stop anyway and grab a meal here. It's worth it.

Great choice. We stopped at Jenny's for lunch mid road trip and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The wait staff was very friendly and efficient while managing to not make any mistakes with our orders (something I'm starting to appreciate more and more). We had an assortment of buffalo burgers that were outstanding. The fries are hand cut and delicious and the fruit served with it worked surprisingly well. A friend ordered the burrito and said it had some of the best sauce he'd ever had. I was very happy and would recommend Jenny's to anyone!

I was disappointed in the food here. I ordered the hamburger cooked med well. The meat was old and had an off taste. I couldn't eat it. The steak fries were soggy and greasy. I also found that there was no soap in the restroom. The restaurant was not busy. Overall, I left hungry and with dirty hands...not a good experience.

Best. Dessert. Ever! Philly cheese steak was great! Round steak fries were awesome! Prices were reasonable.

Good food at a fair price, people are very friendly and attentive. Had the cheese burger which was quite large with plenty of fries. The desserts were very good. Would eat here again!

In a building almost 150 years old, Jennys has been around almost a third of that time. This diversion to avoid sitting in apre ski traffic turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The home-made bean with bacon soup was outstanding, and the perfectly cooked rib-eye steak was also quite wonderful. I've driven right through Empire for years without stopping, but Jenny's will be on our schedule for many return visits. The staff was friendly, speedy, and made our ad hoc visit to this local gem a truly wonderful diversion from the bumper to bumper grind down Hwy 40.

Stopped by on my way to Granby just as they were changing the "open" sign to "nope". They kindly opened back up to fix us some quick burritos (chicken for me veggie for my friend) and sent us on our way with the last 2 slices of pie left, which happened to be peach. All the while cheerfully acting like it was no trouble at all for them! I had just arrived in CO that day grumpy from an 8 hour delay at the airport, and this experience was the attitude adjustment I needed to get my vacation off to a good start. By the way the burritos were huge; we ate the leftovers for breakfast the next 2 days.

Is two times enough to call it a tradition? Both times I've been skiing at Devil's Thumb Ranch with my flame, we stopped here on our way back to I-70 to get buffalo burgers and cokes. Exactly what you long for after 4-6 hours cross country skiing. The food is great, the atmosphere likewise and we simply love the little town of Empire. Besides, you get a stop and can wait out the traffic at I-70 while filling up your nutrients level for the drive back home.

Pie Stop! We were on our way around Vail-Denver and saw there was pie along the way. We were really full from lunch, but made room for apple a la mode. It was such a comfortable and homey place. Just check their hours before you make the trip.

The food is great, the service is friendly and the prices can't be beat. I spend about $11.75 on two full breakfasts, coffees and two grapefruit juices. The breakfast menu is pretty basic--eggs, bacon, potatoes-type food. Although, they do offer some breakfast pastries. If you're looking for a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit this is not your place. This is the least expensive breakfast I've ever purchased at a full-service restaurant. I mean, where can you find a bottomless cup of coffee for .75 cents these days?! I will definitely return.

I try to go here every time I'm in Colorado. One of my all-time favorite memories includes Jenny's. 1990. There was a snowstorm as my parents and I drove from the Denver airport to go skiing in Steamboat. Jenny's was the place we stopped to rest. I had hot chocolate and remember watching the snow fall outside. Oh, their food is good, and their antiques are cool! ;]

If Gluten free , skip this one. Service was lacking. I ordered a buffalo burger asked for gluten free. Paid for it that night. Not much on the menu was safe. The waitress was very out of it and missing and slow. One of our group thought she was incapable. Our group loved the pie that ordered it.

Ok first I only give 5 stars if it meets the High service standards I have. The food is homestyle and has large servings (the person who said the buff burg was smallish need glasses) They make almost everything on site. The breakfast is oh so affordable and so rib sticking good it'll get you ready for the day. The burrito filled with meat, cheese, egg n taters comes smothered in gravy. The steak n eggs is a fairly descent breakfast steak. Fills up my meat and potatoes husband. Lunch and dinner has a fried chicken that almost puts my southern grandmother to shame and it almost half a bird. They also have jalapeno peppers stuffed w/ peanut butter. Oh yes and they are tasty. The service is good but laid back, so don't go needing to get in and out asap, savor the time. Hopefully RIchard will be working and he will banter with you as he is quick witted and fun to have as a server. The pies are yes homemade and tasty. So save room. So look for the very bright yellow building on HWY 40 (west side) and if the sign says open and not Nope (cleaver use of the wooden letters) stop and say "pie pie oh me oh my....yes"

I ended up here with a group for an apres-hike snack; someone raved about the pies at this restaurant, which has some local fame, and I was looking forward to trying a slice. Being a vegetarian, I asked if the crusts contained lard and, lo and behold, they do. No pie for me. The vegetarian options in mid-afternoon were limited - some veggie burritos, a mushroom soup, small salads and vegetable tempura. I was not wanting a whole meal so I ordered the tempura, expecting something light and Japanese-like, and was surprised at how Jenny's interpreted this dish: heavily deep fried slivers of veggies with melted cheese (huh?) on top, with marinara and ranch dipping sauces. Filling but not interesting. A few people at my table ordered the strawberry shortcake - each portion could have served 4 people easily, a fact not mentioned by the waitress. If I had been a meat eater, I would have fared much better - some of the sandwiches and burgers that others were eating looked great and came with very attractive home made potato chips. So, if you are not counting calories and don't have dietary restrictions, Jenny's might be the place for you to enjoy a hearty meal after skiing or hiking.

Even though I could probably throw a rock over the entire town, Empire Colorado is packed full of local jewels. Today brought us to Jenny's for breakfast. The front door creaks as we arrive out of the wind and single digit temperatures into the warm country style diner. Immediately the smell of fresh brewed coffee, bacon, eggs and pancakes got me thinking about my breakfast and not the high wind advisory on the highways. The waitress is buzzing around with coffee in hand. She is friendly, fast talking and sits us immediately. There is antique crap all over the walls as well as many old photographs. This morning's light complements the warmth of the place. Jenny's is the quintessential small town Colorado Breakfast diner. The people are friendly, the food is excellent, and the prices leave enough cash to park at the resorts (usually about 20 bucks). Yes, parking at the resorts costs more than breakfast. 2eggs, 2 sausage links, home fries, and 2 pieces of wheat toast, Coffee Strawberry jam on Toast. $7.00 + tip. ...Food Comma ensued, lucky I was not driving. Jenny's is awesome, cheap and fast. A perfect fuel up for a deep day on the mountain

Follow up to my "1st visit check in". Fried chicken was in fact very good, crispy honey batter, but $16 for fried chicken seems quite high to me. Had the tossed salad and some parts of it were fresh and crisp but the blue cheese dressing was a watery pool in the bottom of the bowl, and the fruits garnish was, well, rotten. The apple still had the core and was black and bruised, the orange was mushy and still had the sticker attached, which lead me to believe it had not been washed. Pineapple was mushy, would not eat any of that. The chicken entree was served with a warm brioche roll which appeared store-bought but good. My husband had a burger and was not impressed. I'll let him leave his review. As to the "humor" mentioned in many reviews, I found it a bit much. I go to a restaurant for the food and service, not for it's biting comedic value. I've been here once, do not plan to go again.

Stopped here on a whim after camping. Good home style food at an affordable price. This place is gay friendly, which was refreshing to see in a small mountain town. Coffee .75 Grapefruit Juice .75 Eggs, Toast, and Home style Fries 3.75. The portions are satisfactory. For two people our bill was less than 12.00! Service was good and our waiter was friendly. I will definitely be back!

DO NOT: Chips and hot sauce. It's more like cold, SUPER chunky tomato soup. DO: Fries. They're fresh and homemade. The service was AWFUL! For only having three tables at 2 pm, you'd think I could get a water refill, or at least a check back. You'd think wrong. My husband and I both opted for the buffalo burgers, but they looked pre-fab and a bit on the smallish side. My kid had the nachos and they were run of the mill. For a cute little place (and the building is adorable) outside of a national park I expected them to try a little bit harder...

I agree with Merrill N., I visit Jenny's every time I'm in Colorado, if I can. If I lived in the area, I'd eat at Jenny's frequently. Great food, reasonable prices, and interesting atmosphere. I often get the steak sandwich. Don't order the "Jenny's Concoction" unless you want a *really* big dessert. They have a normal-sized sundae also. Brenda G. wrote that the service was awful. I'd call it "relaxed". Perhaps not the best place to go if you're in a hurry. However, they've always kept my drink refilled, so I've never had cause to complain.

Home cooking! So tasty. The selections are vast for a restaurant this size. We stopped in on a Friday and there were only two women working. They were polite and provided great service and even better food. Homemade ice cream, pies, potato salad,etc... I recommend stopping here if you can. Better than the over priced options up at Winter Park.

The steak was flavorful, but needed trimmed a bit. Cooked right at medium. I'm from Iowa so they could have kept their corn on the cob, but it's not their fault I'm spoiled with that. I'd call their fries "chips" but they were tasty and fresh. Great service, fun to talk with. If you get only one thing here, it needs to be the PIE! We had blueberry, Dutch Apple, Apple - all with homemade ice cream, and a peanut butter ice cream pie. Eat the pie! I'd drive from Denver via Estes Park again for this pie!

My friend and I were stuck in a parking lot on I-70 East at 3:30 yesterday after hiking Grays and Torreys. It had been 12 hours since our last meal (I know, I prepare well) and we were so hungry we could barely talk to each other, so we started our hunt for food. First we landed at the Hard Rock in Empire. We left here after not being helped for 10 minutes, and then learning they didn't have fries. We were obviously in zombie mode for fries. We bolted across the street to Jenny's, and we were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming environment, and good food! I had the bison/buffalo burger and my friend had a regular burger. Both of the burgers got a thumbs up from us! Now, onto the jalapeno poppers. I have an idea in my head of what I am ordering when I choose jalapeno poppers, and this was not them. These were simply jalapenos cut in half with cheese pasted inside... Not my favorite, but just a warning to those who choose this path... They might not be what you're expecting. Last, but not least, the steak fries. Yum, yum, yum! Just what we needed! They were perfect. The way they are sliced allows them to get crispy while remaining soggy! If I do go back for one thing, it will be the fries!!!!

I love this place! Great stop on your way back from the mountains. I usually go for the buffalo burger - cooked to perfection. The portions are big so come hungry. You can't leave without trying the pie of the day. Again, pie portions are huge but perfect to share.

Seriously delicious! My husband and I ordered side salads and split a cheese burger. The salads were fresh, huge and were served with warm homemade rolls and homemade dressing. The burger was cooked perfectly and plenty big to split between two people! Great food, huge portions and well priced. We will be back for sure!!!

Ever driven through Empire Colorado? Maybe on the way to Winter Park or Grand Lake? If so, you have driven by Jenny's. If you have never stopped, you have really missed out. I love this place. They have been around for as long as I have been in the state (over 20 years now). They have a great menu with a lot of variety. Nothing to fancy, but a lot of American favorites. Jenny's was recently featured in the Colorado Hug a Hunter campaign. If you have seen the spot, you get a nice peak into the restaurant. Just about everything about the place is antique. Nothing fancy here, just good food and fun people. Always clean and courteous, with a side of ornery. As for the food, I have had just about everything on the menu. After I order, I often times hear someone else ordering and think, "wow, I should have ordered that again". But I know what I ordered is just as good. My favorites are French Dip - Thin sliced beef, lots of au jus (ask for more if you need it) on a soft french roll. Reuben - Piled high with meat on marbled rye. Chile Size - I think they call it an open face hamburger topped with chile, but we all know what it is :) All the sandwiches come with homemade fries (fried sliced potatoes, like thick chips). You also get a nice fruit garnish. Always fresh, I usually end up eating mine. They have other sides as well. I highly recommend the warm potato salad. I think it is German. This stuff is awesome. I believe it is the sweet vinegar that gives it the nice little bite on the finish. After you are done with your meal, you have to have some homemade pie. Blueberry is the absolute best. They have a wide variety (until it runs out) and you can get it warm with ice cream. Not sure why you serve pie any other way. I have not mentioned everything, just not enough time. The burrito is great, plenty of fun delicious appetizers, several varieties of quiche are often available. If they don't have something the way you want it, just ask. Friendly, down home people who have continually done an excellent job feeding hungry adventurous people in the Colorado mountains.

Jenny's is the place you find it homey away from home! staff is super friendly, I had buffalo burger, it was very well prepared, medium well, just the way i want it, also serve w french fries, pickles and fruits (love it)! There aren't too many restaurant options by Empire, CO. I stayed at a B&B accross the street, but Jenny's got enough options that I can have all my meals there during my stay! I just love the fact my food was prepared w care and love, w very resonable price!

Early in the day we had decided we would go to Jenny's for a little apres-snow shoeing feast. My friend called ahead to ask if Jenny could save us 3 pieces of Blueberry Pie. And good thing she did, that pie was so american pie that I sounded like the girl from the herbal essence commercial, after each bite. Their homemade fries were perfectly salty and oiled. The service here is great - they've got the Steel Magnolias small town feel but in the mountains. Sweet and kinda sassy. After a perfect day on the slopes, Jenny's will hit the spot, giving you a break from ski traffic. Apres-blueberry pie, you can nap your way home, sucks to be the driver!!
