So freaking cute. Very kitschy very quaint. Just a tiny little place in Hwy 40 in a little place called Empire. I had a mango Italian soda. So yummy!!

cute atmosphere and thr food is cheap! They have tons of food choices on the menu but the burgers were alright. Its just a frozen patty.

It is a dive diner, and barely any room to order (no waitstaff), but OMG so worth it! I love this place!! Quite quaint and perhaps even kitschy, but I did say SO WORTH IT! The blackberry malts alone keep me coming back and then the burgers are mouthwatering ... don't miss this place ... Your burgers are always cooked to order - mine are medium rare. The fries are yummy and the sweet potato fries are freaking tasty too! Whenever we are coming back down i70 we make the short detour to Empire ... and we are NEVER disappointed!!

This place is a Burger Joint and makes no apologies for its tight space. I've been coming here for over 20 years and just love how authentic everything is that they do. What do they do right - BURGERS - with a butter toasted bun that can easily handle a quarter pound hand pattie of beefy goodness - a wide variety of cheeses- and fresh cold tomatoes, lettuce and onion. SHAKES - With a variety of flavors that will blow you mind and the ability to combine those flavors to make it your own. As for me my favorite is the Chocolate/Peanut Butter Combo. Thank You Dairy King - I can't wait to devour another burger and another shake with gusto and fervor for the simple things in life that make me happy.

We always stop by on the way to Fraser Valley or on the way home. We love the food and service. My husband's juicy burger was cooked to order - medium rare. We had the tasty regular fries and sweet potatoes fries with no salt. The ice-cream is always good as a snack or a dessert. Last time in, I bought a beautiful ceramic piece to put bananas in that was hand-thrown by a ninety year old man!

Definitely not a burger place. Malts look good though. Burgers are frozen patty. Scenery is great and location is good. I've been wanting to stop here for the last two years and now I do, I feel a little disappointed.

Best damn business in the town. Always go after shredding mary jane. Totally worth the stop. The people are wonderful, the food is delicious. It will make your life more fulfilling. What more do you want, people?

We had always been excited to try this place, so we decided to stop on our way back to Boulder. Boy, what a disappointment. The staff was very curt, seeming as though they didn't want to be there which is a huge red flag in my book. I was hoping maybe the food would be the saving grace, but the burgers were dry and the malts were drippy. Basically I found the only difference between Empire Dairy King and fast food chains was the fresh vegetables. Oh and the incredibly high prices for what one gets.

We walked in and got a table. I came back to the cashier and was completely ignored. Both workers were really grouchy. No one said hello or even came to the cashier. We ended up leaving after only being there 10 minutes. The whole time they just stared at me didn't even come up or say " we will be with you in a minute". Horrible customer service!

My dad and I go here just about every day after skiing during ski season. I have skied at a few high ranked places, and they all have their fancy "apre ski" (after skiing) places. But this is a cute mix between a Dairy Queen and Burger King and is a perfect place to warm up after a hard day of skiing! I definitely recommend!

Came here today after a hike. They were busy with a line out the door. It seems about half of the customers do carry out ice cream but I came for a burger, fries and ice cream after a hike. I settled on a buffalo burger and a cappuccino chip malt. There was a table available inside so I sat inside. They do have outdoor seating on the deck. About four tables. The malt was delivered to me first. They make them out of either soft-serve or Dreyer's scoop ice cream. I ordered the real stuff. The flavor on the malt was good but it was a bit watery. Not sure if they added too much liquid or if the ingredients were too warm. I'd give their malt three stars. Tasted good after a long hike but nothing to write home about. The buffalo burger was good. I ordered it with veggies on it and cheddar cheese. I would definitely get that again. The fries were good too. They were crisp and hot. Not over salted. Service here was prompt and friendly. As an added bonus, they give FREE doggie ice creams in little plastic containers (fresh soft-serve). A nice touch. My dogs definitely want to return. All in all, I love patronizing this type of place. People are there working hard to make their restaurant work. The building and the decor aren't much to look at but I didn't care honestly. The deck might be OK but it is close to the road and you'd have to put up with traffic noise and exhaust. I will definitely return! Burger, fries and malt set me back $15.

Kiddie sized scoops are like a normal scoop elsewhere, and regular adult single scoop is like a double. Not that I'm complaining....! This place is a little gem in a little town just off I70. It's charming, clean, and it wears its community on the walls within. The staff are friendly, the food is great, and the cozy feeling really adds to enjoyment of your meal or dessert. There is an outside deck with tables for seating, but also adequate seating indoors as well as restrooms. If you're stopping for ice cream, just be ready to get double what you're asking for! :)

I went here on my way up to the Rockies for ice cream and and what a great decision it was. Everything was really cool about this place, from the ice cream to the location to the service. I am from and live in New York and if I ever get the chance to come back to Colorado I will definitely me back.

We stopped in for lunch on our way north and it was good. We had burgers and fries. No ice cream. I know, no ice cream, that's crazy talk. We wanted ice cream but we decided to eat burgers here and go down the road for dessert. We didnt have anything against eating dessert here, just wanted to spread the wealth. The menu is extensive for a little place. Price was average. Burger was decent. The fries were good. Note, they do not accept credit cards.

When you look up the definition of 'Mom & Pop" burger joint in the dictionary, there is only one that truly exemplifies the phrase: Dairy King! It's not just the fact that it's a locally family owned establishment. The food it fantastic after a long day of skiing. I highly recommend a double cheese burger and a medium chocolate malt. SOOO GOOD! TOURISTS BEWARE: Dairy King is not the major source of income for Empire, Colorado. Their biggest revenue earner is a zero tolerance, kangaroo court backed speed trap. When the sign says 25mph, they mean 25mph. They will pull you over on a slow day for going 26. It is criminal. And there is no fighting it, because I think the Cop and the Judge are the same guy.

Nom, nom, nom! This place is adorable and ridiculously good. Probably one of the best burgers I've had in a long time (up there with the Cricket.) The bun hugs the burger, cheese and fresh veggies right 'til the last bite. After hitting up the mountains at Winter Park we walked into a shoulder to shoulder line but not an incredibly long wait. You've got your shakes, malts, scoop and soft serve ice cream, 6 different sized burgers, BLTs, fried zucchini, french fries, etc. They have even added a fancy pesto on ciabbatta bread sandwich. There were probably only 15 or 16 chairs inside the joint but surprisingly, there wasn't a wait to get a table to chow down. More seating is on the outside deck for a warmer day. Soft serve root beer float and hard scoop chocolate malt were incredible. French fries..delicious. Skip Dumont's Subway and Idaho's Spring's McDonalds and try this place on your way through!

You're on your way back from Winter Park and ya need some carbs but aren't up for another round of pulled pork bbq tacos at the Lewis Sweet Shop in Empire (viz), so whaddaya goin' do? You're gonna head across the street to the Dairy King for a very well made burger from the friendly folks who've been there forever. Good onion rings/fries and excellent malts and ice cream (soft and regular (Dreyers)) make this place an excellent choice for apre-ski/hike/anything munchies.

These folks make burgers the old-fashioned way, and they do it VERY well. Lovely toasted buns, lovely burgers, lovely fries, and I can't keep myself from ordering a peanut butter banana malt to wash everything down. Mmm. Only thing is that there isn't much seating, so in the winter, be prepared to do takeout. They also don't take plastic--this is a cash-only business. Luckily, there's an ATM not too far away (they even tell you where on the signs that tell you no plastic is accepted.)

My girlfriend lives in Tabernash so I come through here all the time and if they're open I always stop. Some of the best soft serve ice cream I've had. It's seriously worth the stop if you're driving through.

Stopped by here on the way back from winter park... Great little place for some good food. Burger and fries were both really yummy, and the coffee shake I got was delicious! Great place to stop by coming back from the slopes!
