It's great that Zia has two locations in Durango, but as with another review for this location it isn't as consistent in product. I feel this is due to training a whole new crew and different management. They will persevere! I love this location more for it has Boylan's Soda on tap. SOOOO much better than any COKE product. They need to put it in at the North store. The only real issue I have had with consistency at this location is some people on the line are either stingy or clumsy with adding ingredients. C'mon, put some topping on my expensive tacos! This isn't common, but I have noticed the wariness of some workers to make a big burrito, well... big. I'm sure these things will iron themselves out in time. For now you owe it to yourself to try the South Zia and eat plenty of fresh awesomeness.

Delish! We heard from the locals this place pulls in fresh food locally so we gave it a shot. It's tasty. I like the "build your own" setup so we can get our favorites and skip the rest. It's somewhere between Qdobas and Moes Southwest grill taste wise.

Easily my favorite place in Durango. For fresh Mex you cannot beat it. It's similar to Chipotle only more local and more choices. Though the line may be long at both lunch and dinner the staff move through very quickly so don't let that steer you away...it's worth the wait!

Favorite restaurant for places I can eat a good quick lunch or dinner. They use some local and organic ingredients. I get the veggie green chile salad bowl, but I hear that people love the meat choices they have also. Moderate prices. The new go to restaurant in Durango.

We had never heard of Zia's Taqueria when we stopped in to eat lunch on Saturday. The line out the door and crowded tables gave us high hopes. The interior looked great-clean, comfortable and well-chosen decor. I liked the large wall menu right when you come in, and the daily specials in bold colors above the food line. Walking down the line to look at what they had, I was totally impressed with what they had: lots of meat choices, multiple types of beans, rice, cooked and fresh veggies, lots of toppings. We had a lot of people in our group and got a lot of food. I loved my Baja fish tacos! A huge piece of perfectly fried haddock in each taco, loaded with toppings and what tasted like a mango mayo(which there was a ton of so would get on the side next time). The Pork Tamal was delicious and huge! Nice, thin layer of masa wrapped around a ton of juicy, tasty pork. The black cherry soda tasted like it was on tap, it was so good. We love this place, and judging by the continual line out the door from 2-3:30, we're not the only ones. We will definitely make another stop here the next time we drive through Durango!

Love this place! I'm a big fan of the super taco, which I get with the fish. Highly recommended.

Dont know what all the hate is about for this location. I have been in Durango for almost two months and have been to Zia's more than 10 times. Three times to the other location and the rest to this one. I can't really tell a difference in quality and to be honest this location gives you larger portions I feel. Might just be my imagination. Both are great. The food here is great with a big selection. I think of it as a better version of Chipotle. You walk down a line of servers and pick what you want on your order. The fish tacos are a good choice but you may need to wait 10-15 minutes. I usually get the daily special which changes daily as one might guess. They are always fantastic. The soda machine at this location also has those hippie sodas which are a nice change from the norm. The staff is friendly and appear to be mostly Hispanic while the other location they are also friendly but mostly Caucasian. Just a funny thing I noticed. Will be going back here weekly, probably to this location more often than the other due to its easier parking.

Food is awesome but... 1) they desperately need some shade cloth screens (ala Grassburger) to cut the blistering sun off the patio and reduce the heat on the windows. 2) the hipster parents that let their little bastards run wild completely crap all over the vibe, turning it from one of the better places to eat in Durango to a ball pit at a McDonalds.

Being an out-of-towner and searching for a Chipotle I stumbled upon this little gem. It's located in a small strip mall between a Big 5 & a State Farm. It's pretty good. The portions are large and the service is fast. It's definitely American-Mexican food (if you're searching for a greasy taco shop, look elsewhere). I'm vegan so I can only speak on the non-meat/non-dairy options, which they do have a lot of. No faux-meat or tofu though. It's a serve as you go choose set up, which is nice because it's fast. I'd definitely recommend it and my girlfriend is actually getting it for the second day in a row, which is a great compliment to their food and service.

Solid place for lunch! Came here with my mom to grab a bite to eat and thank goodness we arrived before noon because otherwise we would have had to wait in an enormous line! We both ordered the salad bowls which comes with greens and a choice of meat, beans, rice, and toppings. Service was quick and easy since the setup is like Chipotle :) I had the barbacoa which was a bit on the salty side, but the greens were fresh and the salsa was tasty. The serving was quite large so I didn't finish everything, and I didn't even get the chips on top! Come hungry!

The nachos were so good. But the drinks were different( except the root beer.)The tables were not clean . It is hard to throw away the trash. The menu was in the right position. The service was ok. The booths were uncomfortable. (Reviewed by my 8yr. old niece, Taylor)

Zia Taqueria is simply the best fast casual Mexican food in town. There are two locations in Durango, go whichever one is more convenient. They have a lot variety and everything I've tried is great. Reasonable prices, the food quality to price is top notch. The daily specials are pretty awesome too! I like the South location for it's more plentiful seating and it's the newer location more convenient for me.

It doesn't matter what you get, it's great! Seriously, the food has so much flavor and it's so much cheaper for a good meal than anywhere else in durango. My wife and I come here all the time. The carne anada is awesome and the fish tacos baja style are a home run.

Great fish tacos and good atmosphere. This place fills up for lunch so plan a little early to avoid a longer wait.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
