My Fiance and I went here while on a ski trip. Yes, it is more expensive than Mexican or burgers, but prices are clearly listed on their menu in the entry way. If you are looking for an excellent dining experience, friendly, professional staff, a quiet atmosphere (we were upstairs in the back, so we had a very quiet evening), and an overall great experience try the Hearthstone. The fish and prime rib were superb!

A lot of tourist-trap restaurants in Breckenridge. Not this one! Wife and I did three course fixed price menu, six different things--all very good. We'll go back soon.

Very nice place that kinda of takes you back to the older days of Breckenridge. It's a tad on the expensive side but the food is very good.

I used to work at the Hearthstone when I lived in Breckenridge. I have tried almost everything there, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a single thing. It is heavenly and I dream about it regularly. Things to try include the lobster tail appetizer, the brie en croute with huckleberry jelly and strawberries in balsamic vin., and if they're still making it (maybe in the fall?) butternut squash soup. Then, for dinner, the bestest bestest things ever are the wasabi tuna and the ginger orange sea scallops. Those top my list for the most delicious entrees I have ever eaten, anywhere. I am for real about that part, anywhere. If you have room after dinner for the bread pudding, it is amazing. And I know my bread pudding! If you go for happy hour with a group, try to sit in the big round table in the bar upstairs. You will be sitting in a wrap-around window with a head-on view of the ski slopes and the blue sky, and it will be wonderful. Happy Hearthstoning!

This Monday night we dined with you and we ordered the lamb shank and it was very tough!! I have never had lamb shank that needed a steak knife to cut it. It usually falls off the bone, Salad was good as was the boar sausage, but the polenta was cold and I noticed dinner plates going back to the kitchen with polenta....uneaten. Chocolate mousse is usually very light and fluffy. Not this time. Very think chocolate pudding. Last year we dined at the Hearthstone and it was fabulous. What has happened? Mussels in red curry sauce was the best I've ever had. Prime Rib was great too. Everyone in my party of four thought their meal was great. Friendly and helpful staff too.

Great place! Really nice old house! the ambience is romantic and cozy. The service was very good, the waiter was very nice and answer all of our questions on the menu. The food was good! not excellent! we order de scallops for apettizer and the dish was ok! my husband order the filet mignon because the new york strip was over, we both agree that it was a very good dish.

When you look at this place from the outside, you would not automatically associate it with happy hour, but if you're in Breckenridge and it's between 4 and 6, do drop in here for some great appetizers and drinks. The bar area is in the front upstairs room with the view of the mountains and if you're sitting by the front window you can also people watch. We had the spinach and wild mushroom pizza, the lamb meatballs, the jalapeno shrimps, and the beef tacos. I must say the beef tacos were the favorite for my husband and I, although I keep hearing other tables say that the shrimp dish was the star for them. The tacos had great spice and were served with a side for pico that was nice and fresh. The shrimps were beer battered and didn't do as much for me, but were still great. The food and the service were both great and we'll be back to try dinner next time we're in Breckenridge.

Every time I go to Breckenridge, I make sure to stop by Hearthstone. Service is great, with the waiters and waitresses being highly knowledgeable about the dishes, plus the food is always phenomenal. I highly recommend the elk as well as the Colorado rack of lamb, however you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I have ate at every restaurant in town, and this is hands down the best restaurant in Breckenridge.

We went here again after being contacted by the manager about my review and it was major disappointment again! The bread they brought us was cold, chewy, and the butter was unspreadable. The scallops were over cooked and rubbery. I found 2 pin bones in the first two bites of my salmon so I sent it back. Not to mention the food just looked sloped on my plate. You eat with your eyes first. My husband got the elk with blackberry sauce and it was the only decent thing that we got all night, I ended up helping him with it. We ordered the lemon curd tart, another let down. Our table had a beautiful view of the mountain and the service was way better this time! I was really hoping to have a better review to write but the execution of the food was poor. Again we ended up at Ember for another wonderful experience!

The grilled pizza is an excellent starter. Everything we had here was superb. We had a large party and pretty much covered the whole menu. I had a taste of everything and it was all great, but the lamb and elk dishes were mind-blowing.

Great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. My wife and I walked in and five minutes later we had a seat on the second floor looking out the window -- a perfect view. I had the rack of lamb with risotto. My wife had blue crab stuffed trout. Both were excellent!

What an incredible evening! I was recently invited to vacation in Breck with my mother. Having heard from yelpers and locals alike that this was a MUST try, I decided this would be the ultimate time to check this place off my list. Now that I've eaten here, I completely agree with the rave reviews. It was loved by the whole gang. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic evening, a gathering of friends, or a family re-union. My mother "oo"-ed and "ah"-ed over the setting. Topping the stunning Victorian house was the service. My server, Megan, was incredibly knowledgeable, and was eager to share her opinion. She was totally helpful and attentive. For appetizers, we indulged in the chile relleno [best one I've EVER had] and the venision sausage, which was an evening special. I enjoyed both, although I preferred the former over the latter. [ I think if I hadn't recently eaten at Biker Jim's in Denver, I would have adored the sausage. But, I must say, Biker Jim really knows how to make a gourmet sausage.] We then ordered the lamb special of the evening and the elk. The elk was out-of-this-world wonderful - so good it could make all the hairs on your body stand on edge!!! I felt, however, that the lamb lacked seasoning, and was a little on the fatty side. It was pretty disappointing, since I really love lamb. For dessert, the creme brulee and the huckleberry bread pudding. These were both delectable. Overall, a great meal in a resort town. I found the food to be inconsistent, but the new world wine, great service, and environment really made the evening fantastic. I would dine here again without question - although I'd be sure to be careful what I might order.

Birthday dinner for my 16 y/o daughter, three adults, 6 kids. The most gracious restaurant ever! Yes, we had kids, and yes, there were other kids. No kid drama for any table. Kids know good food or maybe just saw that this is sacred foodie space. Anyhow, the service was so kind, our waitress (whose name escapes me but she was from NZ) was never short with the kids, she offered to cut my 8 year-old son's meat! I mean, I don't do that! She was helpful, patient, never hovering, just perfect. They sent a champagne/ginger ale toast for the big birthday and dessert for the birthday girl. But the food--tears to my eyes. Blackberry elk crazy good, my favorite was mine, the ginger scallops. Shrimp and grits rich and perfect. Best thing ever--kid prime rib for $9. It was MONSTROUS. For starters, the baked Brie was the favorite (we had four butnthatbwas the one). Wine list amazing. Just perfect.

The Hearthstone Restaurant is situated in an old Victorian home. It is a charming local with pretty views of the locale mountains from each table. The American cuisine is delicious and offers something for everyone. I had the cedar grilled salmon filet which was grilled to perfection- moist and tasty. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were perfect compliments to the salmon. Other members of the party ordered the filet- grilled as they desired, and the crab stuffed trout for a perfect taste of Colorado. The Hearthstone Restaurant is great for comfort food after a day spent outdoors...

My friends took me to this great place for my birthday when we were in Colorado. (They had asked around and had received multiple recommendations for this place from locals.) We ordered so much food because it all sounded so good. We had two appetizers: Prosciutto Wrapped Scallops and Baked Brie. Both were tasty, but I think we loved the baked brie more. They had a prix fix menu which we all chose. The salad was good and very fresh. Three of us ordered the Idaho Trout stuffed with Blue Crab (very tasty) and one person ordered the Lamb with a tomato type sauce which she thoroughly enjoyed. Very generous portions for the entrees. We couldn't eat it all (probably because of all the appetizers and partly because we wanted to save room for our desserts!) Two got the Creme Brulee which was fantastic, and two of us got the Dark Chocolate Mousse. I don't know if I really would call it mousse since it was so thick. It was amazing. No leftovers on dessert! We arrived in time to see the beautiful view of the Rockies out the window before it got dark. It's a beautiful home converted into a restaurant. I'm glad it was recommended to us and am happy to recommend it to others. I'd love to go back next time I'm in the area.

Outstanding place - one of the best restaurants in Breckenridge or anywhere else for that matter. We are locals and eat here regularly, and the food is consistently outstanding. Service is always attentive without being overbearing, the wine recommendations are spot on, the bar is a great spot to walk in without reservations for appetizers and drinks. We always recommend the Hearthstone to our friends, family and guests - if you can only pick one nice restaurant to visit in Breck, this is the place.

Awesome food and service! If you are here during the week you MUST check out the three coarse menu - what a treat! My server, Maggie, was fabulous in making recommendations and guiding me through all of the fantastic menu options. Such a great place to relax and enjoy a great meal with a view and excellent service to boot!

This is a restaurant with a confused sense of identity. It is pricey but casual, serves fancy entrees like lamb and ginger seared scallops, but has weird 'presents' wrapped and hung on the walls. It kind of looks like a haunted mansion. It is located conveniently and had plenty of parking spots out front. Service was ok, very friendly but they didn't pour our wine after the first glass and the dishes came out a little too quickly. Crab cakes were good. Tuna special was very good, but the scallops were a little underwhelming. The ginger sauce was a nice combo with the scallop taste, but the basmati coconut rice was weird with the scallops and not great. The creme brulee was ok, the cream a little too dense and cold. Definitely not in the top 10 creme brulees we've tried. Wine selection was alright. I think this place has good food, cooked well, but tries a little too hard to be inventive. I love new combinations of flavors but they must be done right. Oh and we paid $140.

I expected this to be a great restaurant. It wasn't bad but it certainly wasn't a five star place like other people are saying. The website makes the place, especially the presentation of the food, very elegant. The place itself, an old victorian home, is extravagantly decorated. We sat upstairs and it was nice but I wouldn't say it was "romantic". The food, however, wasn't extravagantly presented in the least. It looked pretty ordinary. We started with the crispy lobster (really tasty) and had the special for the day - homemade sausage with carmelized onions (pretty good). For our entrees we had the the chicken stuffed with camembert, but when I cut it open this thin liquid poured out and then the chicken was empty. The sides were better than the chicken itself. MBH had the new york steak. It was flavorful but overcooked. Again the sides were better than the steak. The menu on the web has different descriptions than I recall. I think every second dish was something-demi. Not sure if they were trying to impress us with their French but how hard is it to make a demi-glace? Gave me the impression that everything came from the same unexciting demi base. I almost feel like giving it two stars but relatively it wasn't THAT bad. I'd check out other higher-end places in Breck before going back.

We eat at Hearthstone every year that we visit Breck, and the past two years we've been fairly disappointed. This year, two of the marque items on the menu - the rack of lamb and two different preparations of pork belly - were sloppy, inconsistent and poorly executed. The preparation of pork belly on the Bacon & Egg salad was so overcooked it was completely inedible! I will commend the children's menu and varied gluten-free menu along with the friendly service, but none of those things can make up for poorly prepared dishes.

you must order the mouco camembert if you like cheese.. so delicious! rib eye was great; didn't like the pear salad b.c i was expecting more flavor and it was a little flat.

i think this is the best dining option in Breckenridge! We tried a few other "fine" dining places and they were overpriced and the decor was horrible... i know the town is a laid back but still. Hearthstone is beautiful! i loved everything about it. We had the lobster and scallops for apps... the lobster was good, maybe a better tempura batter it was a little too hard. I tried the rack of lamb special and it was perfection! My mom had a filet and again... perfection! I highly recommend this establishment...you def get what you pay for~

They have good food here. It is a bit pricey and the portions are small. I'd recommend coming here for their awesome happy hour. They have a lot of small dishes for $5 and great drinks on special. I've come for dinner once and probably wouldn't go again, but continue to enjoy their happy hour.

One of the better meals in recent memory. Probably the best out of our meals at Vail/Breck. Starting bread was good - a tomato base. Delicious with the butter which thankfully spread (I dislike cold butter that won't spread... what a pain). Appetizers: Loved loved the crispy lobster. Had it the last time we came here and was one of the main reasons why we came back. Ahi tuna - good, but we've had better. Flavor was interesting - different from your usual wasabi/soy sauce. Guess I'm a creature of habit because I did not like it that much. That being said, I can imagine someone really loving it. Main: Btw, all pieces of protein that I saw were HUGE. We're talking filet mignons the size of a large man's fist and salmon that was about 1 lb!! What we actually ordered: Elk - a great standby. I would have been happy with half the portion, but this just made me doubly happy. Breading is delicious. Loved the potatoes that came with it. Carrots were good too. Lamb- a super-star. This dish took the cake. Perfectly Medium rare. 5 separate ribs attached to this sucker. Huckleberry sauce perfection! Goat cheese risotto was delicious. Great flavor. Slightly undercooked so it was a little crunchy, but I did not mind. Dessert: Creme Brulee - one of the finer versions. Perfect crust that took some effort to get through. Would come here again and again.

Nice friendly restaurant, pretty setting. I had the fish which I found very bland, but , a few bites of the venison was amazing and the gingerbread break pudding was to die for!

Hold the salt. Everything we tasted was loaded with salt and not interestingly prepared. Not my favorite place for food, but great to experience the local flavor of Breckenridge in a quaint Victorian building. My advice, go have a glass of wine and maybe an appetizer and walk around the corner to Ember, Relish or Modis. Do not waste you money or time on this less than great place. Update: I gave the Hearthstone a hearty heave-ho before but they've pleasantly changed. Give them a shot if you are bringing guests who seek the "real Victorian atomosphere" and pretty good food.

Excellent. Took my wife there on our visit last weekend and couldn't have been happier. I had the elk. The crunchy lobster appetizer is a must have as well.

This place is one of the classic joints of Breckenridge. Very romantic. We enjoyed a pre-Christmas dinner that well served by an attentive staff. There is a nice wine list that covers a good range of reds and whites at decent prices. This is a restaurant that should not be missed if you are into fine mountain dining.

I gave this restaurant 3 stars based on my wife's dinner (trout stuffed with crab meat), which was excellent, and the location. When I asked her to rate this place she gave it four stars. The location is very nice, worthy of 5 stars: beautiful old Victorian house in downtown Breckenridge overlooking the mountains, very nice outdoor seating area. The staff was great too, probably 4 or 5 stars. OK, now for the not-so-great. My wife had to add a little salt to her trout. We very rarely need to add salt to restaurant food but a pinch was all the trout needed. I had the elk: the portion was surprisingly larger than I expected. However, it lacked flavor. My wife agreed that the elk tasted more like pork. I've had elk many times before and it can be distinctly flavorful; this wasn't. The accompanying carrots lacked flavor as well; honestly, if I tasted them blindly I might not be able to tell you they were carrots (other than the size & texture). This is summer in Breckenridge and today was warm. Our table was upstairs in the old house and it was pretty warm when we arrived around 6:30pm. No big deal, but that high room temperature made my red wine unacceptably warm. I asked to have my second glass chilled before pouring the wine and it was fine. Now some may say I am being finicky but red wine should not be served at 80+ degrees in a fine restaurant. One last note about the ambiance: the upstairs dining room shares space with the bar. That's no big deal, but the music was like bar music and didn't suit the surroundings. I liked the music, it wasn't offensive at all; it just wasn't right for old the Victorian house. Would I go back? Yeah, probably after I had tried all the other restaurants in Breckenridge first. Should you go? Definitely! It's good enough that you should experience it and decide for yourself. Should this place have the #1 Yelp rating of Breckenridge restaurants? Not IMHO. I enjoyed Modis better.

Mixed results. Food: Elk and Lamb yummy, tender, prepared as requested. Prime Rib - told they were out of rare due to late time (8:15 - late?) but found a rare serving somewhere, also good. Trout, chosen because it was a local food, was only ok, sauce too salty, and crab stuffing had too much breading. Open to veggie substitutions without complaint. Service: ok but server had unfortunate habit of including himself in plural which is a major button for me "Are we ready to order our dinners?" Unless the server is eating with me, then NO WE are not ready to order OUR dinners. Decor: traditional old-west, pleasant. Overall: ok but not spectacular meal.

We went for a drink before dinner at another restaurant one night and the bartender, Brittany, was awesome. She was friendly, knew the history of the building and made a great drink. After visiting with her over a couple drinks we decided to eat dinner there the next night. Everyone there was genuinely nice. I had the blackberry elk which was delicious. Colson at the door was very accommodating. Great atmosphere, delicious food, friendly staff. We ate at all the highly rated restaurants during our visit and Hearthstone is definitely as good as its reviewed.

Great service and food. We had the scallop app with elk, trout and bass for dinner....everything was delicious. The atmosphere upstairs was a bit more lively with a good view of the town. Our waitress was very friendly and made the experience even better.

This place is a Breckenridge institution that never disappoints. Set just a bock off of Main Street in an old Victorian House, Hearthstone is the perfect place for a date, dinner with friends apres ski or a hot after-dinner drink at the bar. A perfect blend of fireside comfort and casual elegance if that's even a real term. At first the place seemed a bit "dressy" for our crew who had just wrapped up a day on the slopes, but this is Colorado and they welcome anyone and everyone. The staff is 5-star and extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The Executive Chef even took a minute out of a Friday night rush to say hello to our table (per a request from one of my friends). His passion for life was as enjoyable as his passion for the food that comes out of that little kitchen. We started out with their Baked Brie, Chile Relleno( colorado goat cheese; tomatillo-lime salsa; roasted serrano honey tomato sauce) & Prosciutto Wrapped Scallops and each one was better than the next. The Chile Relleno was out of this world with such a wonderful blend of smokeyness, goat cheese and pure yummyness. Earlier in the day we were snowboarding and the guide said that Hearthstone's "signature dish" is their Blackberry Elk. I've never had Elk before in my life so I had to give it a try. This dish, was HANDS DOWN the best I've ever had out at a restaurant. The Elk was so incredibly tender and it was lightly crusted in a garlic granola that just added bliss to heaven! We also had the Crispy Polenta and the Buffalo Ravioli. The Polenta far exceeded our expectations with a moist texture accompanied with mushrooms and manchego cheese. The ravioli was probably a 5-star dish in any other restaurant but it was a clear #3 for all of us. I would go back here again and again and again... if it was a little less expensive. It was a bit pricey but worth every single last penny so don't sleep!

One of my favorite restaurants in Breck. The food is always delicious and the service is spot on. I love the happy hour specials for drinks and food. The martinis are amazingly good. We've eaten right through the menu and have never been disappointed. We recently brought our two year old daughter, who a very picky eater. We ordered her plain pasta. I don't know what they did to that pasta, but it was SOOO GOOD! It was served with green beans, which were even better than the pasta. In my book, a kitchen that can turn plain pasta into something amazing it top notch.

What a charming place. It is off the main street but well worth it. I had the Filet mignon with malbec reduction, simply wonderful. My wife had the organic planked salmon and she thought it was great. Small but decent wine selection, great ambience and service was very good. Will come again.

After reading good reviews, my boyfriend made a reservation here for my 30th birthday. He was promised a "romantic table by the windows." We arrived 10 minutes early for our 8pm reservation, on a Monday night, to find the foyer so jam-packed that we couldn't even get in to let the hostess know we had arrived. When we finally elbowed our way up to the hostess stand, we were informed by two scantily dressed girls (one wearing a see-through white tee-shirt, through which her leopard-print bra was visible, the other in a sweater that showed off half her abdomen) that they were experiencing a "slight delay" in seating their reservations that evening. (It seems that they were booking their reservations too close together, perhaps?) We asked whether we could wait at the bar - no; the bar was too small and there wasn't any standing room. One of the hostesses did offer to bring us a cocktail while we waited. For the next 40 minutes, we were jostled around in the tiny foyer by non-English speaking tourists, trying not to spill our drinks, while awaiting our table. This gave us some time to notice the ancient Victorian, almost gothic décor - from the peeling cranberry-colored floral wallpaper to the grimy matching carpet (IMO, carpet does not belong in restaurants) - I can only hope that the building is on the national historic registry and therefore cannot be altered. When the drinks were finished, it was 30 minutes past our reservation time, and we were just about to give up and head to the restaurant next door, we were finally seated. It was not a window seat, but by that time, we were starving and just happy to sit down. The manager did come by our table to apologize for the wait and offered a free app and/or dessert, which was very kind. On to the food - I must say, just about everything we had was incredible. Even the bread and butter was so good that I had to stop myself from eating it to save room for the rest of the meal. The bread tasted like it contained walnuts - a welcome surprise, but we probably should have been notified of this ingredient by our server (tree nut allergy, anyone?) We shared the prosciutto-wrapped scallops as an appetizer, which tasted surprisingly fresh for being 9600 feet above sea level. My boyfriend loved his egg-and-bacon salad. I had the Caesar salad - tasting Caesar dressing is often a good way to judge a restaurant. IMO, it could have used more anchovy flavor, but otherwise, quite good. The crispy polenta croutons were delicious, and a fun twist on the traditional. I had the buffalo short ribs for my entrée, which had excellent flavor, but despite being very tender, had quite a bit of fat and connective tissue on them still. Not sure how this could have happened - whenever I cook short ribs long enough to get that tender, most of the fat and connective tissue has melted away... My boyfriend seemed to love his blackberry elk - I didn't even get to try a bite! The blackberry sauce tasted more like wine than berries to me, but I'm not sure I would have wanted a really strong berry flavor on my meat anyway. My bf sub'd in the black truffle creamed spinach for his carrots, which was a good choice: probably the best creamed spinach I've ever had. For dessert, we shared the triple chocolate decadence, which was exactly as it sounds. Decadent, rich, delicious, if not terribly creative. They did have several other creative-looking desserts on the menu, but I can't help myself - I'm a chocolate girl. The delicious food made up for the so-so service. Our server was a bit, um, forgetful. My bf ordered a lobster tail to accompany his meal - and it never arrived. We were too full to complain about it. A few other things went overlooked -forgetting to drop off sugar after asking whether we needed it for coffee, forgetting to comp the app and/or dessert as previously mentioned. I will say that all of the staff were extremely kind - from the provocatively dressed hostesses, to our absentminded server, to the apologetic manager. No one had an air of pretentiousness about them, which was refreshing for a fine dining restaurant. We would probably go back for the amazing food - it just seems that there are a few logistical and staffing/training issues that need to be worked out.

We went to the Hearthstone to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We had always wanted to try this restaurant, but were waiting for a really special occasion since it's an upscale experience. When we arrived, we were seated upstairs in a cozy attic type area. The restaurant is in an old Victorian, and the ambience is really delightful. They promptly brought us complimentary champagne to celebrate our anniversary, which was a perfect touch. And, our waitress was very friendly and helpful. That said, I will most likely never return to the Hearthstone, because the food is mediocre at best. Given that our meal was $115 for two, you would expect heaven on a plate. This was more like Country Buffet quality. The Caesar salad was limp and tasteless. I think I emptied out the salt shaker to get just a hint of some spice or flavor. I ordered the prime rib dinner, which is supposed to be their specialty. I asked for rare, but it came out barely pink. It comes with a couple of sides, potatoes au gratin and creamed spinach, which were just okay and about as devoid of flavor as the Caesar salad. Our waitress returned about 10 minutes after the food arrived (apologizing for her delay in doing so) to ask how the temperature of the meat was. I said, "This isn't exactly rare." She said, "Yes, I know, we tried to get you as rare a piece as we could, but with a roast that's been on for a long time, it's usually cooked too much to get rare." Fair enough...but this is the Hearthstone, and presumably one of the finest restaurants in Breckenridge. You don't serve $30 prime rib without making sure the temperature is just right. If you are aware that you will not meet the customer's expectation of rare, you come out and say, "I'm sorry, we won't have rare prime rib for you tonight. Is medium okay? If not, could we serve you filet instead?" The prime rib was very tasteless, and I ended up taking half of it home for my dog. Given that the best thing about this dinner was the bread basket, I'm pretty disappointed. I was hoping for a lot more. The two stars are based on essentially on the ambience...it is truly a darling location. For far superior food and much more reasonable prices, I will absolutely return to Modis for any future special occasion.

Dined here last Tuesday. I had pre-ordered flowers from a florist and they were on the table when we arrived. However the whole restaurant smelled strongly of fried salmon, not pleasant at all. They also seated us in a small cramped room with too many tables to be comfortable. The menu was nice and reasonably priced. The food sounded much better than it tasted. While I appreciated thr use of local Colorado ingredients, everything was just kind of bland and not well seasoned. I had a chile relleno that was nicely prepared but entirely too spicy to taste the mellow local cheese inside. The sweet corn soup was good but it had so much sugar, it ruined the subtle flavor of the corn. It was also watery. My lamb shank once again kind of had good flavor, but needed seasoning and about another half hour in the pot. The sauce was great but the fruity garnish was way toogary. So my suggrstion would be less, much less sugar and use a little salt! The service was very good although a bit over zealous.

We wanted to go out for a decently nice meal and decided to walk around town - maybe not the best idea when it's less than 20 degrees out. My friend mentioned that S. Ridge Street had a bunch of restaurants on it (not really on the map we got from the condo company we rented from) so we trudged past Main Street and on to South Ridge. While there were restaurants along that street, there weren't as many as we expected, so if you don't have a destination in mind, I would focus on Main Street rather than South Ridge. Our first stop was South Ridge Seafood Grill which seemed right up our alley - ~$17 entrees, cozy pub-like atmosphere with lots of yummy dishes on the menu. Unfortunately, we learned that they were booked with reservations until 10 p.m. so we would have to wait until then to be seated. It was 8:30 p.m., and we were starving. So onward we went... The hostess helpfully recommended a number of places, including Hearthstone. Hearthstone, "a casual dining establishment" (that's what it says outside), isn't as casual as we had expected - the entrees are considerably more expensive at $28-$35. It's a finer dining establishment with Victorian dcor inside (kind of reminiscent of a lodge...potentially out of a horror movie) - dark wood paneling, heavy curtains, carpet everywhere. We had a couple of cocktails and shared a couple of appetizers, including the beet salad and the green salad with apples and blue cheese. The beet salad was good, though a tad bit small - four pieces of beets. We had a few challenges figuring out what to order - they have a daily special of Colorado lamb prepared differently each day for the chef. The day I was there, it was lamb shank prepared Greek style...with cinnamon. I love Greek style lamb but not cinnamon so much. Darn. Then I was trying to decide between the 12 oz. New York steak and the elk. I'm not much for the fruit-based sauce with meat (don't particularly like savory and sweet together - hence my disdain for Hawaiian pizza), so I opted for the New York steak. Bad move! I hate "entre envy" - I always aim to order the best thing at the table...and I clearly lost this one. When I had my steak, it was delicious and juicy (though a bit rare for medium), but when I tried my friend's elk, my steak seemed to have no flavor after that. The elk was not gamey in any way but so full of flavor that I didn't mind the berry sauce at all. Get the elk! A bit pricey but good.

Hearthstone easily makes my list of favorite restaurants. Their happy hour is fantastic, two for one gourmet appetizers and an awesome bar upstairs makes this very hard to pass up. They use local ingredients (try the pepper-crusted elk) and everything is fresh. The wine list is excellent and the service can't be beat. Hearthstone was recommended by a bartender at another local restaurant and I'm so glad I listened, I've been back three times since and will continue on my visits to Breck. Try the tempura battered lobster bites, they come with a wasabi reduction and the combination is just killer.

My favorite Breckenridge restaurant without question...I wrote a review a while ago but apparently it is under the wrong listing. Anyway, to begin, I have never had a bad meal at Hearthstone so just go with your taste-buds and you will be happy. As appetizers, the fried lobster tail and the gnocchi are both heavenly and can easily be split (although you may regret that after a bite). As far as entrees go, the ginger encrusted orange seared sea scallops are incredible and very rich. I seriously crave them and they are almost like dessert. My brother and Dad swear by the tuna with wasabi sauce but you really have to like wasabi. For dessert, they use to have a white chocolate raspberry bread pudding that was divine. Last time they were not making it so we had the walnut creme brulee and it was beautiful. I dream of Hearthstone when I am stuck in the flatlands. The Victorian decor is more like a whore house, but hey, it is all part of the experience. Superb restaurant in a low key mountain town, so dressing up is not a requirement.

Hearthstone is an absolute treasure in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The food is fresh and original, and the employees couldn't be nicer or more welcoming, particularly Sarah. The spicy wasabi lobster appetizer is out of this world - a perfect combination of heat and crunchy texture, and the shrimp and grits were surprisingly delicious. And don't forget to order dessert. I had the blackberry crumble, which was sweet and tart and just plain amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want an incredible meal in a beautiful setting!

Wow what a great place to dine; I would agree with others - one of the best restaurants in Breckenridge! You'll need a reservation for this charming restaurant! Service was flawless, food was delicious, and you can't beat the atmosphere of the quaint Victorian home, turned into a restaurant. The Crab-stuffed trout and salmon entrees were flavorful and beautifully plated. Don't miss this place while you're in town!

Hearthstone was amazing! My first trip up to the mountains from San Francisco! It was my Boyfriend's birthday and I made last minute reservations through opentable.com . We had a great meal, he ordered ELK!! Best thing on the menu. I had the special Lamb Shank, not bad. We were the last one to be seated and they didn't rush us at all. We had the dinning room to ourselves and the service was super sweet. We had a little bet to see if people live here or commute to work from a small town. When we asked our server, Jamie, she said that she lives here in town. If you can make room for the pecan creme brulee. Perfect touch at the end of the night. I'd go back, it's a very cute town and so romantic. The snow was falling and it just felt like Christmas in MARCH! TRY the ELK! My next try when I'm back at Breckenridge will be Blue River Bistro.

Best in Breckenridge. 2 kids, 2 adults looking for better food and willing to pay for it. It is on the pricier side but worth it for what you get. Staff was super friendly and was smart about seating families in area with other families so all patrons could enjoy their night out. Nice wine selection. We will be back. Dress is Business Casual type.

Wow! Just have to say that you have to try the Elk. I ordered it medium rare. It was more tender than ribeye and better for you! I can't wait to go back again next year! If just for the Elk, I would give it 5 stars! Service was ok. Our waiter was nice, but not attentive, as our water glasses were often empty and plates were not taken away very fast. Plus, restaurants that have top service will also make sure to keep your wine glasses full (we bought a bottle). The place was packed with people the night we went, so make sure to make reservations.

Excellent meal in a beautiful and cozy setting. Highly romantical and loveulent. As you can tell, they've got a superbulous bar as well. Try the seared Ahi. Heck, try everything you can fit in your ridiculously rotund out of state belly. Seriously, the food was quite excellent, and I'd highly recommend the place. It's not a typical restaurant to bring children unless they're a bit older and well behaved. Or heavily sedated. Waitstaff was attentive and friendly. Can't say anything bad about the place at all.

Overrated is the only way I can explain this phenomenon of a restaurant. Concierges love to send people here because the place has a huge history and is in an old brothel. Be warned the outside looks better than the inside. Convention-center chairs and old wood paneling make it not so great, but the bar is a really nice atmosphere. They have decent steaks, but it is NOT the best choice at this price range. I believe the ratings here come from a substantial core of people who work for the owner or catering company, which has a total monopoly on catering. It's not bad, don't get me wrong. It's just not the best at it's price range, and the atmosphere is best from across the street or just in the bar. Also, please, this is Breckenridge. NOBODY IS DRESSY here. You can wear jeans in every single restaurant in town. Just don't be a slob and show up in your ski jacket, okay?

For starters, the peeps at Hearthstone win a large part of my affection solely on the free champagne they gave us (I mentioned in my Open Table reservation that it was our 5-year wedding anniversary). I love free! Plus, they sat us at one of the tables in the front, which looks straight out onto the mountain - gorgeous! On top of that, we had great service and amazing food. We were there for the Spring Massive "Bite of Breckenridge", where they had $30 deals. At Hearthstone, the $30 each got us 3 of 4 courses (appetizer, soup/salad, entree, or dessert) and a glass of wine. Although I really wanted to try to lobster that everyone else mentioned, it wasn't one of the BoB appetizer options. Wheel settled on the chile relleno, which looked delicious, while I opted for the asparagus soup (while delicious, it was no chile relleno!). For the main course, we had lamb and trout, which were both great. The kitchen was very accomodating with my nut allergy, which always makes me happy - plus, their website shows that they offer several gluten-free options. The creme brulee and chocolate mousse were both really tasty, but nothing spectacular. To me, this place is a bit much for everyday dining, but I would definitely hit it up again if I'm coming for a full weekend!

An absolutely enchanting evening! Highly recommended!! We went here for our last dinner in Breckenridge and had a fantastic time. Our server (Rick) was very pleasant and funny without being overboard. We sat outside on one of the levels of the front patio and enjoyed the gorgeous panoramic views. The menu was mouthwatering - I had a hard time committing to my choices as I really wanted to try just about everything! In the end, my friend and I ended up sharing two of the specials: We started with the ahi tuna ceviche appetizer: ahi grade tuna ceviche served in a martini glass with fanned avocado slices and jicama chips. Beautiful and very tasty! Then, we each had a side spinach salad which came with walnuts and the house tangerine-thyme vinaigrette - this was so simple yet amazing! I loved it...the dressing was superb. Next, we split the venison special: two venison medallions cooked medium-rare, mashed sweet potatoes, sauteed snap peas and a ginger tomato coulis. It was simply delicious. The dish was served for us on two separate plates without any extra charges!!! The presentation was beautiful too... Finally, the dessert menu rolled around and we ordered the triple chocolate decadence and creme brulee for sharing (I only had a bite of the chocolate decadence and it was amazing, but heard great things about the creme brulee). For my personal dessert I got a cappuccino with a shot of Baileys and it was perfect. We all had several glasses of wine and many of them were recommendations we got from Rick, our waiter. I had the Shiraz and it was great! I highly recommend Hearthstone as a nice (romantic) dinner...it was simply flawless!

Really enjoyed dining here last night. The service was great and the food was excellent. They had run out of a couple of items we tried to order, but Liz, our server, was excellent at making it up and offering suggestions. Service was some of the best ever. The Blueberry elk dish was excellent with a beet and goat cheese starter. My dinner mate had the Idaho striped bass stuffed with crab, which was an incredible dish and a very popular one apparently. We shared a bottle of red zin and finished the meal off sharing the Cake and Shake with brandy. The dessert was OK, but we wish we had gotten the chocolate decadence.....unfortunately this was an item they had run out of. Overall wonderful dining experience and highly recommended.

We ate there July 20, 2009, my birthday. The dress for summer is casual. They nicely gave us a table upstairs (in the Lounge Room) that overlooked all of Breckenridge and the ski slopes. The restaurant decor was Victorian, which ties to Breck in the early 1900's. Very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful an the food was excellent ! We had the House Smoked Trout for starters and it was delish. I had the Elk and it was as described in reviews - very tender and tasty. They have an excellent wine list and my Pinot Noir was very good and reasonably priced. Denise had the grilled salmon - excellent as well. For dessert Denise had a Chocolate Mousse and was creamy and rich. I had the house special bread pudding - again quite good. The manager came by and ask how we had enjoyed our experience. Nice touch. They offered a prix fix dinner for $25 (several selections), which Denise ordered. Very good deal. Oh yeah, they also gave us complimentary champagne for my birthday and my dessert was also comp'd. Will we go back ?? Probably this week !!

I will commend the children's menu and varied gluten-free menu along with the friendly service, but none of those things can make up for poorly prepared dishes.

i think this is the best dining option in Breckenridge!

The grilled pizza is an excellent starter. Everything we had here was superb. We had a large party and pretty much covered the whole menu. I had a taste of everything and it was all great, but the lamb and elk dishes were mind-blowing.

Great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. My wife and I walked in and five minutes later we had a seat on the second floor looking out the window -- a perfect view. I had the rack of lamb with risotto. My wife had blue crab stuffed trout. Both were excellent!

This is our ToGoTo place when we are visiting the area! Always very professional service. Great wine selection!! Try the Turley .. .. .. The Scallops were perfect. As was my husbands Australian Elk. Not gamey at all. Always a very pleasant atmosphere. Went again the next day after boating on Dillon Res. great HappyHour menu. The LambMeatballs....fantastic! Would have loved to have tried all the small plates. Thanks Cody for great service last night and today!

i Totally enjoyed the dinner for two that I had with my companion! It was superb! I would highly recommend it. The waiter was Devin (ask for him and tell him Devon sent you.) and he was wonderful. For a waiter with much to do he is such a listener. You could tell him your life history and would never make you feel like he has somewhere else to go. The food was very good. Well worth the high price that I paid! I would recommend that steak. Also the Bass dish was yummy. We were seated on the second floor which was actually quite nice. Ask for the table on the second floor at the very front of the restaurant. It seats 4 and it has a spatular view of the mountains. Overall, a great night!

Five stars every time! We certainly try to eat here every time we're in town. The menu constantly changes based on what's fresh and in season. I've only tried a few appetizers, but I enjoyed them all. The baked brie was probably my favorite, but the mozzarella stuffed dated wrapped in pancetta that we had on our most recent visit were pretty delicious, too. My husband and I share our entrees and desserts. We usually try their current lamb dish and the filet, which never fails to be perfect. They are very flexible when it comes to the side dishes - I think we ask for a different one just about every time. For dessert I usually like to get the carrot cake because not only is it an extremely generous serving, it's also delicious! I also really enjoy their bread pudding - it's definitely a smaller serving than the cake, but it's rich flavor makes up for that! And on our last visit I tried their ice cream sandwich. They serve Alchemy Ice Cream and always feature a different flavor. Last January, it was avocado, which I simply wasn't interested in. But this time it was salted caramel, so I gave it a try! The serving was generous and the ice cream was super sweet and creamy!

Went her Breck on business and we decided on this place for dinner and all I can say if you are here this is a must try...I am not sure about any less than 4-5 reviews but the service and food was amazing! I am super picky and this place met all the ket categories for. Price, selection and service....the ambiance of the 1800's place is just the topper to the evening not to mention the amazing service we received from Leigh our server. It was so hard to choose on a dish but if you are here i would highly recommend either the lamb or buffalo. A co worker and myself decided to share a plate of each and was so hard to tell which was better each dish was so unique in flavors but I would have to rank in one of the top 10 dishes I have ever had. The lamb cooked medium rare was so tender and so flavorful it just melted in your mouth and the same with the buffalo. I could mention the beet salad before hand and how delicious it was but that was so minimal to the meat main course it would bring it shame....it your are in Breck this is a mus stop for a cocktail for the nostalgia and ambiance of an awesome meal...

The best meal of our trip to Breck! After about an hour wait our group of 6 was seated upstairs in the very rustic restaurant. This place was kind of deceiving, as the menu and website online appears to be more of the modern style, but when we got there the décor had more of an upscale but vintage feel. It was really cool! Our server Catherine was very helpful and funny, but also very knowledgeable about the menu. Great service! The food was absolutely to die for. We started with the kale chard salad which was absolutely fantastic. We also had the tips & chips appetizer as well as the lobster. These were both fantastic and we probably could have ate them as an entrée they were that good. Our server recommended a unique Spanish red tempranillo that would pair great with our entrées. The dinners were absolutely fantastic! Most of us got the blackberry elk but there was also an order of pig cheeks, cedar-planked salmon and also one of the steaks, which my friends were nice enough to let me try. We thought everything was superb. Each entree had a very unique flavor to it. I can especially comment on the blackberry elk, which had a light breading and was served in a rich berry sauce, an unusual but scrumptious combination of flavor. The gnocchi and broccoli served with it would give some of my favorite Italian restaurants back home a run for their money! The dinners were expensive though and we easily spent over $40 per person on entrees alone. I thought the quality was especially good but maybe the portion size wasn't huge. We managed to save room for the dessert! We got the chocolate mousse cake and everyone agreed it was wonderful. Overall we had an awesome time at the Hearthstone! I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind spending a few extra bucks for a seriously fantastic meal. 5/5, an awesome experience!

We went her last night, I had the flatbread appetizer with goat cheese which was delicious. The men had the filet mignon which they devoured and said was one of the best steaks they have ever eaten. For my entree I actually had the scallop appetizer which was actually a large portion and was some of the best scallops I've had ! They came with a lobster sauce, risotto and snap peas. For dessert I got the vanilla bean panna cotta which was a great end to the delicious meal! The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the ambiance was very intimidate. Will definitely return of I never come back to Colorado !

My favorite place in Breck. Excellent food, excellent service. I couldn't decide what I wanted, so I just went wild with appetizers. The butternut squash soup (which was partially lobster bisque somehow, and was incredible), the roasted beet & arugula salad, and the seared scallops. I also shared the pancetta-wrapped dates because I could. All were incredible. No comment on dessert because I couldn't fit in another bite. Highly recommend!

Outstanding food and service. Super cool OLD building that has much of the original photos and finishes from the family. Everything we had was delicious. Highly recommend!!!

Top highlights/lowlights 1) amazing food 2) gluten free 3) friendly service So this may have been the greatest meal I have ever had in my life. Hearthstone is located just a block behind Main Street, so very easy to get to if you are staying in the downtown Breck area. The decor and ambience is Victorian era, and it works so well with the building which is essentially an old mansion. There were tables set up outside so it looks like outdoor seating is available during the warmer months. We called ahead to make a reservation for a Sunday night. It was the off season so we probably didn't need to as there were tons of tables still open when we got there around 8pm. The hostess asked me if there was anything we were celebrating or anything they should note when I called to make the reservation. This is a good time to tell them if you have any dietary restrictions in your party (g free!). We were seated promptly when we arrived and received water and menus right away. There is a gluten free menu here so be sure to ask for it! There isn't gluten free bread or pasta, but I did notice that the gluten free menu had the "normally" gluten free options as well as modified versions of options thT aren't gluten free on the regular menu. For example, I had the chicken which normally comes with orzo but they replaced with fingerling potatoes on the gluten free menu. You can do wine by the glass or bottle and they have a beer list as well. Hearthstone is pretty pricy (the chicken entree is $28) but it's SO worth it! The food was awesome! We did the "tips and chips" appetizer which is beef tips and French fries, it's also gluten free! Other appetizer options included stuffed dates, cheese board, chile relleno and more! For our entree I did the gluten free chicken entree which came with fingerling potatoes and squash. He did the buffalo short ribs that came with grits (we think!) and seasonal veggies. We were SO impressed by both entrees. We had the seasonal panna cotta for dessert, which for spring was honey and strawberry. The service was also super friendly. They kindly answered all of our questions, and made sure we had everything we needed. If you are celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a nice night out in Breck, give Hearthstone a try. You will not be disappointed!

Five stars. Why five? For me it means the restaurant nailed the food, service, and atmosphere. Hearthstone is in a two story historic home in downtown Breckenridge. They make use of both floors, and have a patio as well. Service was excellent. From the hostess, server, and server assistants. Pacing is important for five stars. I don't want to wait too long between courses, and would like to finish each course before the next arrives. I had the beet salad, chile relleno, elk, and a dessert that I've yet to see. I let the server order my dessert for me. It would have to totally bomb for me to change the review. Nicely done.

This is a cute restaurant that looks like you're in someones living room This place knows how to handle its meat! ;) I got the rack of lamb and also tried the elk and shrimp dishes and everything was amazing. This is definitely a must visit!

We had heard a lot about this restaurant. Every local we asked for advice on where to dine this restaurant came up. So we made a special night of it and gave it a try. As with most of the downtown area the restaurant is in a beautifully restored 1880 Victorian mansion. It is located off of Main Street in a quieter area more or less off the beaten path. The menu is classic comfort food, nothing too creative, which is good and bad. Great flavors but everything you expect. Kind of their version of a steakhouse. 3 stars for standard. We sat in the front dining room, and it felt like we were at home or in someone's home. It was a very intimate setting with three other tables. By the time we were done we felt like we know everyone in the room. You get to listen to each other's conversations. We really had a hankering for seafood but didn't think Ono or scallops were the best indigenous options for Colorado. We went straight to our entrees. Unlike the night prior, tonight I felt like meat and something more western. I was hemming and hawing between the lobster ravioli , elk or buffalo. The waitress was very patient with us as we ask so many questions to try and make up our minds. On her suggestion, I went with the Elk. The dish was something different for me and I had so much fun gobbling it up. You get two Elk medallions still on the bone. It was a bit tough to cut (ordered medium). The granola crust eased the slight bit of gaminess of the Elk. The blackberry glaze was so sweet and the perfect contrast. I also devoured the Gnocchi. I wish they just a side of Gnocchi available! The boy ordered to Colorado Striped Bass to stay true to our theme for the night. It was a good piece of fish that also comes with a nice sized fried risotto cake. It filled him up. I must have been good because I did not get a taste. I am fine with that, I was enjoying gnawing the Elk meat off the bone. The wine menu is standard, most bottles.

Good service, good atmosphere, fantastic entrees. Drinks, beers, happy hour apps were nothing special, but I'd return for the wine and main courses! Blackberry elk was fantastic!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would but I think yelp makes me pick at least one. Judgemental, angry people. Stear clear unless you wear faux fur and are into fake ritzy-ness.

A pleasant and nice surprise for what I would expect on a mountain. This service, wine, and food were all extremely nice. We ordered foie gras, scallops, and a kale salad as appetizers and the first two were really so good that you just wanted to lick the plate. The kale salad was nice and had we not ordered anything else, I think it would've been just as good but we were blown out of the water on the chef's take of peanut butter and jelly with the foie gras. We shared the hanger steak and the ice cream sandwich for our next two courses and we left nothing. It was absolutely a fantastic meal.

I went here with a group of 18 guys for a bachelor party, so I probably didn't get the real restaurant experience from this place. But they gave us, what was essentially our own private room and our own special pre-fixed menu which even included the name of our party and a description (as seen in my pictures). The place is two floors and is a bit on the fancier side for Breckinridge. For dinner I ordered the Elk chops with cheese risotto. This meal was delicious as the elk was the perfect amount of gamey-ness and tenderness and the risotto was the perfect complement to the elk and was equally delicious.

I'm surprised I've never reviewed the Hearthstone yet - It is one of our favorite restaurants in Summit County since we've moved here 5 years ago. It's perfect for an anniversary dinner or special occasion (or for 2 for 1's when you don't feel like spending a lot on a nice dinner!). Every time we've been here it's been delicious, and the wait staff has been fabulous. Definitely on our top 5 best restaurants in Summit.

Top shelf! Excellent service and delicious food preparation! Our server Sarah was tops! Very knowledgeable and great recommendations. Still thinking about panko coated lobster with citrus wasabi glaze appetizer!!!! Elk was delicious as was the pork tenderloin! Haven't been to breck in 10 years but hearthstone is every bit as delicious ! Will make a trip to ski breck much sooner and this is just another reason ! Great wine selections and cocktails !

The decor is a very cute 2 story house. Loved the cozy feel of the place. Sarah was our server. She was attentive to our 4 top, without being obtrusive. We had a bottle of pinot noir and shared the mussels (daily special), chile relleno, scallops, and the kale and chard salad. Everything was AMAZING! I especially loved the mussels in a french onion soup broth with cheesy bread for dipping! I ordered the harris ranch filet with a cab demi and fingerling potatoes, but also tried everyone else's entrees: hubby got the elk (ridiculously good), friend got the macadamia nut crusted ahi tuna seared rare (daily special), and the fourth entree was the lamb chops (a bit too marbled for my liking, but delicious if you enjoy the marble). We were all so happy with what we ordered and left full and more than satisfied. We plan on having dinner here again soon!

Oh Hearthstone, I don't know what to make of you. I've now dined at Hearthstone twice. Both times the evening was almost fabulous, but never quite came together. On our most recent visit, we ordered the blueberry elk and the buttersquash ravioli. The elk is the absolute best dish in Breckenridge anywhere. Period. Trust me, this baby is not overhyped. The ravioli was also delicious, but didn't hold a candle to the elk. Both this time and our last visit, however, the service was a bit off. We never quite settled in or felt comfortable. But, bottom line, Hearthstone delivers great food in a quaint old house.

One of the top five best meals I've eaten in my life! The service was impeccable. The rapport between the staff is enviable. They all help each other which lends a great atmosphere of camaraderie on top of vintage elegance. For 35 dollars you can have a three course meal where each course may be better than the next. The drinks are sublime. If you're in Breckenridge, stop by hearthstone. You will not regret it.

Very, very gorgeous restaurant by Breckenridge Resort. We finished a whole day of snowboarding and walk in here for a happy hour and that's one of the most happiest hour I remember for CO. We got to get too much great time here and it's not pricey. - Fried shrimp is top on my list. - Local beer! - We ordered one desert to share and they split into two beautifully and serve both. Being here with friends or family after a day of fun at ski resort will definitely make the night more starry in CO.

We had our wedding reception (18 people) here. They gave us a private-ish part of the restaurant. The service was awesome, and the food was soooo good. The planning part was incredibly easy, and they followed through on all of my requests.

I have visited Hearthstone many times without reviewing it. I love the place by how often I go back. Located in a Victorian house off the mail drag, the atmosphere is a throwback to yesteryear. Paisley wallpaper, crickey floors and tight spaces give it its charm. We started with the scallops and we're not disappointed. Perfect char on the outside with the buttery texture inside. And in the crisp veggies give it just the right twist. I asked the chef to order for me. I was rewarded with the Elk. It was served with tender broccoli rabi and gnocchi. Elk cooked perfectly and drizzled with a blackberry demiglaze was the highlight. If your in Breck high country, definitely make this a stop.

The lady friend and I were looking for a spot that we could order tapas style. Hearthstone fit the bill with their small plates they were serving for happy hour. We managed to be seated immediately upstairs, but quickly figured out we were in the wrong area for happy hour. After explaining what we wanted, we got seated in the upstairs bar area. All the food was quite good. We did have a bit of a delay on your first food round, but the bartender straightened that out after realizing we had been waiting some time.

My boyfriend took me here for birthday dinner and I was blown away by how special they make you feel on your birthday! Not to mention, the food is sensational. The baked brie with raspberry preserves is perfectly melty and the Organic Cedar Plank Salmon was probably some of the best salmon I have ever had in a restaurant. I highly recommend getting 4 courses, as the appetizers and salad cannot be passed up. Especially the dessert! The English Sticky Toffee Pudding was inhaled the moment it hit the table and we took home the Lemon Poppy seed Cheesecake to share which was equally amazing. The atmosphere is very inviting in a little victorian house and the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. If you're in Breckenridge for any occasion, you must stop here!

Great service. Great food. Had the crispy lobster, ginger scallops, and toffee bread pudding. Crispy lobster was okay-- very decent but nothing special. The scallops were cooked very nicely but I didn't like the sauce very much. Came with a yummy coconut rice. Dessert was great. My dad has the cheese platter which was excellent and the ahi tuna which was very good. Overall nice experience, would likely return. 8/10

Hearthstone, hands down, is the best restaurant in Breckenridge. By far. They have the best food, views, and staff. Their gluten free menu is absolutely to die for. Almost all of their sauces can be done gluten free. Their meat is always tender and delicious. This where we always go for special events and birthdays. It's not only upscale, but the food is so freaking good. I can't rave enough about hearthstone. Seriously. They're always good to their locals too! Running discounts almost year round. (Two for one specials, dining passports, etc.) If you can only make it to one restaurant in Breck, go here.

Yes, this place is amazing. The service is wonderful (Sammi was funny and efficient), and the elk was outstanding. We had a bottle of wine and an appetizer, making the dessert menu an exercise in torture - we had no room! The restaurant definitely has an old timey manse feel, with the lovely Victorian style exterior and the antique interior. I absolutely recommend it for dates or adult families - but if you must come by yourself, there is a nice marble bar tucked into a corner.

We came for our 5 year anniversary. Because of that, I dressed up nicely and DH was also more dressy than usual. But most people were very casual here (jeans and tshirt, work out clothes, etc). So take it as you will. We were given a free glass to toast our special day and we were seated in a smaller, quieter room off the front. Food started with a flatbread app with cherries, cheese, and lamb bacon - this was a meal and I would've happily eaten this and one more app instead. We also tried a cousin of gnocci app that was quite nice, although a bit small. There were many more we wanted to check out - consider a tapas night to save a few $$ and still eat great food. For mains, we had the elk and the bison short rib. Both were very nice - the short rib was better. Sides were ok and we had enough food for us to eat another full dinner the next day. We had no room for dessert, sadly. So, tips are: 1. Make reservations, ask for the quieter areas. Feel free to explore the rest of the house when you arrive. 2. Either get only apps, or 1 app and 2 entrees, or 2 apps, 1 entree - it's American sized portions here! 3. Dress however you want. 4. There's a bar upstairs if you want a casual place to check out or eat alone. 5. Ask for a drink menu if you want a cocktail, etc. Check out specials and coupon deals during mud season.

One of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Have been there 4 times this summer. With visiting friends, girls night out, and date night with hubby. Have not had a bad meal yet. I think we have worked our way through the entire menu. Sammy, was our waitress the 2nd time out this summer and we worked our visits there around her schedule. If she wasn't there, neither were we. Not to say our first waiter was not good, because we did return, as that was a 5 star night as well. Sammy takes it to a 6. She works with the big spenders and just as easily, there is nary an eyelash batted if all you are having is a main course and tap water, working on a budget. I did have a large group of 15 next to us, one night and a group of 12 another night. All I could hear from both those groups was praise for food, drink and staff.

Ate here while on vacation recently. The food was very good and the atmosphere was great. Our server was very nice and informative. We had to wait quite awhile for a table but were pleasantly surprised when the manager covered our drinks due to the wait. In the future we would make a reservation. We will definitely be back.

Amazing! My husband and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary here last night and had reservations. On the reservation I noted the special occasion we were celebrating. It was a Thursday night and we were seated at the most private, romantic table (the one upstairs to the left of one in the window for larger parties.) The hostess was welcoming and gracious and wished us congratulations. We were immediately brought a glass of champagne - that was a very nice gesture. For an appetizer, we had the scallops (YUM) and then were brought a complimentary tuna appetizer as a gift from the chef for our anniversary. I had the salmon - best I've ever had - and my husband had the bison short ribs and cleaned his plate. We were absolutely stuffed so didn't have dessert. Sure, it's pricey, but for special occasions, the high quality is more than worth it.

Amongst the bar, burger and pizza joints in Breck, its nice to find an upscale eatery. No doubt the best meal we had while in the town and probably the best lamb I've ever had. The elk chops were also excellent. We got the lobster and scallops for starters, the scallops were delicious, but the lobster we would have passed on, there was too much breading. Besides the lobster it was a great meal and the service was just as good.

Our favorite restuarant in Breckenridge. Try to go every year we cpme. Excellent service in a more intimate setting than most places in a ski town. Not a great place for kids.

We stumbled upon Hearthstone whilst strolling the streets of Breck last week. We decided to make it our dinner stop and it was wonderful! Our server was courteous and attentive with a sense of humour and the decor was incredible - dark vintage and velvet, complete with old jazz soundtrack. We had a cozy corner with mountain views out our window. My husband had the Ricotta Gnudi starter and Blackberry Elk main and I had the pan seared scallops starter and slow-cooked cinnamon lamb shank special. We shared a Zinfandel throughout the meal and bread and butter chocolate pudding for dessert. We couldn't help but top it off with a cheeky Baileys and Whiskey after dinner. The food was absolutely incredible, was served quickly and we felt thoroughly spoilt throughout the entire meal. This was a delightful dinner experience that I can highly recommend. If anyone comments that they think it is expensive, I retort with "you get what you pay for". We will be returning when we make it back to Breck.

I WOULD ABSOLUTELY eat here again. This was the perfect setting for my husband and I's 5th year anniversary. We were visiting Breckenridge from Dallas. We very much enjoyed our champagne, cocktails, entrées and dessert: -cocktail: rum + fresh blackberries -entrées: lamb and elk -dessert: cake and shake Enjoy!

This is one of our favorites. You simply cannot beat the happy hour here. We mixed a little happy hour with main menu today. The meatballs and jalapeño stuffed shrimp should not be missed. The Ono and kale and chard salad were just delicious. For the main course my huz had the blackberry elk rare and I had the braised buffalo ribs. The elk was soooo good and you must get it rare. Dessert was cake and shake. That shake is can't be described. Just order it

Great food. Great Service. We took a party of 11 here and it lived up to the hype. Decent wine selection. The kitchen was very accommodating bout splitting salads and soups. We ordered the elk, short ribs, hangar steak, fish, kids dishes and a few others. Everyone loved their dishes. The vegetables also got rave reviews; in particular the kale was a big hit -- and we are not a kale family. And, if the food, drink and service isn't enough, the ambiance is great and the house has interesting history to it.

We just went here for Happy Hour. $5 plates. The shrimp stuffed with jalapenos with a sauce was the best deal and were delicious, 4 nice sized shrimp. The quesadilla with I believe brie in and something else, can't remember were good too and 4 of them. The other two plates were 3 teeny bites, I think it was salmon on a small cracker and the other had something to do with sea bass. Thought the amounts on some of the plates was just too little for $5.

Wow! What a great night! Service was awesome - Izzy, thank you for a great experience! My favorite sauv blanc, Allen Scott, by the glass. Scallop ceviche with fresh Colorado produce can't be beat. Light, summery, and the perfect start to the night. My husband loved his gluten fee elk and this Florida girl loved the scallops! Couldn't have picked a better place for our night out. We usually have ok meals in Breck but this is a highly recommend.

We heard about Hearthstone from a guy on the lift. He recommended it for happy hour and it was great! The house is lovely. The service was great and so was the drink/wine list. The appetizers were very tasty. Something happened when the server found out we weren't staying for dinner. Perhaps she was afraid we were taking up too much of her time. Once that happened, we did not get much attention. Okay. That's fine and perhaps we will try dinner here sometime.

OUTSTANDING: Atmosphere, Cuisine, Service (thank you Daniel). We were originally a party of 3 and my husband got sick and were only 2. Many restaurants would be upset that they used a 4 top for only 2 people but you would never know from the hospital staff from the entrance to service. The food was outstanding, we had the elk (the blackberry sauce was outstanding) and the ravioli. THANK YOU for a wonderful way to end our vacation. Best meal we had while in Breckenridge by far.

Fantastic place to eat! We ate here last night of our vacation. The food was top of the line in every way. We had the salmon, and our friend had the elk. Ddddelicious! Then we had the decadent chocolate for dessert. Yummy. Best of all was our waiter - Nick. Superb is all I can say. The restaurant is an old Colorado house. Perfect evening.

Everyone said to go here. I wasn't really that impressed. It was crowded and loud. Food was okay - but expensive. I think there is just a lot of hype about this place. it is in a cool, old Victorian house, but there are better dining experiences elsewhere in Breckenridge.

Came here for thanksgiving in 2013, wanted it to be special because it was our first year away from our family and living in Colorado, the Malbec was good, I came with my twins and they had a separate Appetizer then for the adults, wished i could have had there appetizer as my salad was really bland and flavorless, i was also served a pumpkin and squash soup which had no salt or seasoning at all and was not very good. The entrees were literally the best part of the meal, the turkey was fresh and delicious, it also came with, sweet potatoes and green beans. It was really pricey and next year i will cook, not worth the price.

We came here on a random Wednesday night and had one of the best meals I have had in Colorado to date. Our server, Leigh, was friendly, funny, and extremely knowledgeable. Her recommendation of the tuna special was our favorite dish of the night. We ordered two other plates, both the elk and were thoroughly satisfied with them as well. The price was a bit high but that is to be expected with such a great restaurant in the mountains. A beautifully combined feel of fine dining and a comfortable, colloquial environment, I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a special night out.

I was totally surprised by the casual dress of everyone there. I thought I was taking my husband out for a fancy anniversary dinner, but we could've worn jeans and a sweatshirt. Not a big deal, just surprising. It's pricey and delicious, but totally casual. The service was fantastic, and the food was really good. I definitely preferred his elk with brie gnocchi over my spare ribs and risotto. The spare ribs were super lean, since they were bison and the risotto was a bit undercooked than I like, but the flavors were still awesome. His elk was amazing, with a fantastic granola crust. And the gnocchi was to die for. We had scallops to start and they were cooked perfectly. I could've eaten 20 more of those. And the dessert knocked my socks off. Get the sticky toffee pudding. Just, get it. You WILL NOT regret it. Amazing.

Food was great, but services was slooooooow. I ate here by mylsef and brought my bike up on the deck with me (see pic) so I could keep an eye on it, and they were cool with it. It took 45 mins from salad to entree. Without a book or companion that's a really long time. The hawaiin sea salt on the bread butter was a noteworthy mention, even if the bread was just so so. Aloha!

Best meal of our trip. They have a $30 fixed menu in the first part of the week and we tried it. Initially Open Table had no reservations so we called .... No problem! I had the chile relleno.... Mmmmm. Then had steak..... Which was well portioned and cooked to order. I had the cheesecake which came in a martini glass and had a granola base. Amazing!!! The portions were well sized and service great. Also... Great and well priced wine list! Thanks!!!

Myself and my wife visited last night 8th Sept. Booking, reception, table, ambiance and our waitress Sammy were all wonderful. We had the special $30 three course menu which is a very good price. We added a bottle of wine - Cupcake vineyards chardonnay - again lovely. We had the soup and a nice small (good) vegetable salad and both were excellent. For mains we had the salmon and steak. The salmon dish was wonderful generous - too much for my wife. The steak was the one disappointment of the evening. I had ordered it medium it arrived very rare - how the chef could have thought it was medium I do not know. I struggled through it and perhaps I should have sent it back. The accompanying vegetables were to die for so it was not all bad. For desert we both had creme brulee and found it good. This is a lovely place but the steak let the evening down a bit but we still felt it rated 3.5 to 4 star.

Very nice ambiance and view. We really enjoyed the elk steak, nice tender and a great blackberry sauce. I was disappointed by the scallops, as the dish was not very flavorful at all. Service was good. Overall a little bit overpriced compared to the quality of restaurants which are right next door. 3.5 stars.

Fantastic! Reservations are required so don't forget to call ahead to secure a table. Our party of six was well taken care of by Nina. She was well versed and very helpful throughout the evening. This place also has a wonderful charm as it used to be a Victorian home back in the day with downstairs and upstairs seating. You have to order the Elk. It was very flavorful and exactly how I requested ( medium rare). The short ribs and sea bass were also cooked to perfection. For dessert, order the champagne sorbet! We will definately be back.

Don't be fooled by the sign outside which says "casual", well the guests are all casual but the restaurant id definitely fine dining. An extensive menu with top grade local and regional dishes. The wine list was really extensive and nicely organized by the taste preference of the drinker. We had a great meal and were really impressed by the service. Our server in particular had an in depth knowledge of the menu and the wine list. This restaurant would grace any major city and is a real find in the mountains.

Old school and worth it! Best meal we had in Breck. Do not hesitate! Professional service, well executed food, and charming atmosphere. What's not to like?

For our honeymoon dinner, my husband made reservations at Hearthstone. It was overpriced and mediocre. He got the lamb which was recommended and it was fair. I had flank steak which was good but not great. His purple potato hash was inedible, our desserts-a lemon cheesecake served in a wineglass was blah and my cake and shake consisted of a tiny shake and an over-rich chocolate cake. We left feeling more curious about the restaurant next door that was homey southern cuisine. Definitely not worth the hype for the price.

We dined here Feb 1 and it was very charming. Original Western Victorian home with all the details intact. It was a very snowy night and it was great to enter the warm, inviting atmosphere. Our server, Frank, was really wonderful and made the night run smoothly. He gave us just the right amount of sevice and attention, but we never felt rushed or bothered. Professional and polished. We ordered a bottle of Frog's Leap Cab and it was excellent, priced well, off of a nicely balanced wine list. Our Duck Breast app was good, bread was tasty. My Beet Salad was super boring and the beets, red and gold, had zero flavor.I think they forgot the oil part of the vinaigrette, it was all balsamic and sort of bitter. Goat cheese the same, very bland and no complementary flavors in the composition of the salad. One diner had filet and he loved it. I had flank steak and it was chewy and actually had crusted "char" on one side which is 100% inedible and bad. I guess it was old food stuck on the grill that got stuck to the meat and was served that way. The side of grilled collards were OK. Another diner got the plank salmon and they also loved it, but as I tasted it, the brine soak was so overpoweringly salty, that I was shocked. All the dishes I tried at the table could not have been tasted in the kitchen by the chef. I assume we got a grill cook that night because I cannot believe some of the food would have been served if the had been "approved" by the chef de cuisine. Shared on Champagne Sorbet for dessert with some espresso martinis and that was all delicious. Our evening ended very well and Frank sent us off into the snow with a very positive takeaway. The $200++ bill was no surprise, but next time I'm in town, I'll try another location.

Excellent service & excellent food in a beautiful, old Victorian house. It's a bit louder than you would expect, but with so many vacationers in town, it is not unusual. We enjoyed the crispy lobster, baked camembert, elk (for husband), and arctic char special for dinner. Highly recommended!

My wife and I had a great meal at Heartstone. We started with Happy Hour which was great (watch out the tacos have a delayed kick to them but they are good). And we ended up with a table right by the fireplace and a great server by the name of Devon. My wife is gluten free and there was very little on the menu she could not order. We will be back.

We eloped in Breck and made reservations for our wedding dinner at Hearthstone by high recommendations. We were not disappointed. For apps, we had the jalapeno shrimp, wasabi lobster, and a new slow roast pork cheek they offered. So delicious. For dinner, we had elk and lamb. The meat fell of the bone and was so moist and tender. Happy hour offers $5 drinks and apps, too!

Terrific! This is our favorite happy hour spot in Breckenridge. Good food and drinks for great prices. However, the just had dinner there for the first time and were blown away. Delicious food, generous portions and friendly staff. Will def be coming back!

Fantastic meal and superb service. If you're going to be in Breckenridge for a weekend, make your reservations at Hearthstone well in advance. We saw several couples turned away at the door because they were booked full for the night. The food was on point all evening. From the crispy lobster appetizer, to the lamb and elk entrees, finishing with the white chocolate bread pudding... everything was delicious. Our server - Dan - was extremely knowledgeable about the food and wine. If I could change one thing, it would be the pacing of the meal. We had just returned from two weeks in Paris and really missed the leisurely pace of European meals. Hearthstone catered to the typical hurried American - ie., there was very little time between courses to allow your food to settle. I won't blame the restaurant, however, as that seems to be a cultural issue.

More Breckenridge charm. We were lucky to be at Hearthstone on a night they were offering three for $30 prefix. Unfortunately the chile relleno starter was forgettable. It just tasted like fried cheese. The perfectly cooked skirt steak with mashed sweet potatoes was good but nothing over the top. The best part of the entree was the side of kale. The house bread had an interesting herb and the Hawaiian sea salt butter was outstanding. Dessert of Meyer lemon poppyseed cheesecake and rhubarb compote was a delight of flavors and textures. Mainly I felt the menu could evolve a little more.

One of the best meals there is in Breckenridge. Fig and Cherry flatbread with lamb bacon was a great starter for the four of us to share. The cedar salmon was light yet flavorful, the elk chops were great, as was the bison short rib with barley risoto. A good beer, wine, and cocktail list too. Go for happy hour for good deals or later for an elegant meal.

Waiter Franque was very friendly and attentive. love the old house ambience. the bread was ok. prices are kinda high on the normal menu, but the 3 for $30 menu was great! we had the lamb shank and the salmon, both of which were delicious. The starters were ok. Had the Hawaiian Ono, which was a little fishy.

Perfect restaurant for a special occasion!! We came here for my boyfriends birthday and the staff really delivered. i I had mentioned when making the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived they had two glasses of champagne on the table. At the end of dinner they gave us free dessert. We both really enjoyed our apps, dinner, drinks and desert. I will be back for sure!!

Joe was our server and he was awesome. Very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The restaurant was beautiful and really set the stage for a romantic evening with the wife. We ordered the fried lobster for an app, and it was great. The Pablo crust was crispy and a bit spicy, but really enjoyable. My wife ordered the pork cheeks, something neither of us have ever heard of, and they were extremely tender, juicy and tasty. The grits were a great side as well. I ordered the elk, and it was also very tasty. Tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly. The elk came with gnocchi, which were extremely tasty and accompanied the elk perfectly. We ate a ton of good food in Breck, but this was our favorite restaurant by far. Great job, and we can't wait to try it again!!!

Situated in a circa 1880 home originally inhabited by German immigrants. This fine dining resturant is a good choice if your willing to pony up $50 or significantly more per head depending on if you drink. The wine list is relatively impressive but the prices are a little on the steep side. The decor is quite nice. Try to dine upstairs by a window with a view of the village.

Had a lovely dinner here last night with friends. First of all the service was outstanding and the fact that they were willing to change our table to one we chose, was superb. The appetizers were awesome, which included shrimp (with a divine remoulade), pork belly sliders and the flatbread (tart cherries, goat cheese and lamb bacon...yum). My entree was very good. Hanger steak cooked perfectly with sides of grits and kale. Definitely worth another visit when I return to Breck.

Is it too much to ask to have a couple of vegetarian entrees listed on the menu? I know you specialize in meat dishes, but please, please realize that some of your omnivorous clients have vegetarian significant others who will be the deciding factor in whether or not you can eat at certain restaurants. I appreciate the chef's offer to whip up something special, but it's really awkward to have to ask for something special. Just figure out a good meat-free dish and put it on the menu so we don't feel like we're making special requests or have to make everyone else at the table wait after they've decided on their order and we're still trying to flag down the waiter to find out if they have anything for us outside of the salads. I've eaten at the Hearthstone 3 times now, and tonight will be the last time. It seemed to get worse each time I ate there. My boyfriend and I are locals. I work at a hotel in town and have recommended Heathstone a lot in the past, but I don't think I will anymore after so many disappointing experiences. It was our 1 year anniversary and Hearthstone was one of the few nice places open. I would have rather gone to Relish because I know that they have vegetarian dishes that they actually put effort into and are really delicious and listed right on the menu without having to have an awkward conversation with the waiter about your eating preferences, but unfortunately Relish was closed for Mud Season. I finally settled on the raviolis with the bacon left off. When my order arrived I received 4 rather flat raviolis in an overly-sweet sauce and an almost flavorless filling. Maybe it would have been better with the bacon, but that's my whole point. When you don't have dishes that you know are good without the meat, the vegetarians end up with very sub-standard dishes. My boyfriend ordered the Shrimp and Grits and said it was pretty good, although we struggled to understand how they could justify charging such a high price for it. My strawberry martini was unimpressive, though I've enjoyed cocktails I've had here at happy hour in the past. I wanted dessert but, after the overpriced and very disappointing entree and drink, I didn't want to risk another disappointment on our anniversary. Long story short, I left dinner feeling guilty for allowing my boyfriend to pay a ridiculous amount for 4 raviolis that frankly tasted like they came out of the microwave and an overall disappointing experience. We'll plan ahead better next year and find someplace better to eat on our next anniversary.

Charming 1880's restored Victorian home provides comfortable surroundings and excellent food. We called ahead for reservations and were seated upstairs at a small table for 2 looking out over the town . We had the flatbread with sour cherries, prunes, balsamic flavors and goat cheese . Very tasty start. Sally was our friendly server . We shared the incredible elk entree with garlic smashers and carrots . The portions are generous and so tasty, we will definitely return

I have to make sure this restaurant gets my support. It is amazing, and always a great experience! When we first moved here from out of state, I wanted to surprise my fiancé, and requested a special table with champagne waiting. They went all out to make this an amazing evening, and we now go there every chance we get. Their menu is terrific, and everything we have tried is delicious, but their elk is phenomenal. It is a must have!

This is by far the best restaurant in Breckenridge. Any time me and my boyfriend have the chance to go out for a nice dinner, we always go here. Christmas Eve, Valentine's....this is the place we always want to go. I've had several different things on their menu before and no matter what I choose, I'm never disappointed. I really love the elk, prime rib and scallops. Also, the Happy Hour is incredible! Order the jalepeno stuffed shrimp. YUM! And it's a ski town. Whether you show up in your ski gear from that day or you show up dressed up, Hearthstone is happy to have you. Five stars, for sure.

Great place - my wife and I went there on a nice June Saturday evening. Sat on the porch with a glass of wine and watched the sun set over the peaks of the ski area, then went inside for a great dinner. Then went upstairs to the cool bar, and had another glass of wine. Fabulous evening.

A charming and pricey (but large portions) restaurant located in a lovely Victorian house. That said, we enjoyed the Elk, lamb and bison all were amazing! Scallop appetizer, chocolate mouse and creme brulle were fantastic. Easily one of the best restaurants in Breckenridge.

I've been coming here since the mid 90s as a child. Despite the addition of a few more fine dining establishments in Breck (Ember, Modis, and Relish), the Hearthstone remains our go to place for a quality meal. Great atmosphere, great service, consistently amazing food. It's definitely pricey for the region, but you can count on getting a great meal.

We called for a reservation on a busy Saturday afternoon, but they found a spot for us that evening. My wife and I abandoned the kids and had a nice dinner out. The starters were excellent - my wife had the caprese salad with house-made mozzarella and I had the soup. For our main courses, my wife ordered the rack of lamb special, which was outstanding. I ordered the elk, which was also good, but quite over-cooked... medium-well when I ordered medium-rare. The waiter was very attentive and quickly whisked it away and brought me another one cooked perfectly in short order. It was all a very nice experience, a cute place with great views, and very tasty food.

Huge fan of this place. Came here after reading all the wonderful reviews and hearing from many people this is the place to come eat. They were all right. We started with the crispy lobster appetizer. If you're looking for something fried and delish, this is your dish. If you're looking for something to appreciate the lobster, this is not the dish for you. I love all things fried and therefore, huge fan. Entree, my hubby and I split the elk and lamb. We have never tried elk before. Very good, but the lamb, hands down the winner! If you like lamb, this is a must order! Cooked to absolute perfection and seasoned enough to add to the dish, but not take away from the delicious lamb. We ended the meal with the carrot cake and shake. I've definitely had a better carrot cake, but was still very good and plenty for two people. The shake however, AWESOME! Well done all around and service was fantastic from the minute we walked in. If you're looking for good food, older school ambiance and ok with a pricey dinner, come here!!!

Had dinner with my wife last night. The landscaping outside was awesome with multiple spots for picture opportunities. Dinner was wonderful. Started with Chile relleno which was yummy but not fantastic. I had the lamb and that was. A large portion with plenty of sauce to accompany each bite. The wife had the stripped bass which was light and flavorful. It came with fava beans which she was insure of till I told her to eat them on the same bite as her fish. A perfect pairing. The waitress was attentive and also helpful in picking a wine. Ask in all a great dinner.

My wife and I along with her brother and his wife had dinner at the Hearthstone restaurant while vacationing in Breck. This place was just the right spot for a night without the kids. We were all looking for some Colorado Lamb and the Hearthstone hit the spot. Although I opted for the grilled Elk medallions and they were awesome. The Hearthstone was made nicer by it's location-- a restaurant in a converted turn of the century Victorian. The owners did a great job keeping the place rustic and inviting. Just the place to come in out of the cold after a day of skiing.

All I can say is wow. This place made our top five restaurants EVER! It had it all, amazing food, service, and wine. Highly recommend the crispy lobster and striped bass. Our waitress Elizabeth was excellent, from food and wine recommendations to prompt service. Large portion sizes offset the moderate pricing. A must when you're in the Breckenridge area.

This was one of the best meals I have had in a very long time! I went to Hearthstone when we couldn't get reservations at our first choice, Twist, and boy were we glad! The food was exquisite and service attentive and highly professional. For appetizers we ordered a chili releno which was stuffed with goat cheese and was absolutely delicious. In addition, we had a flatbread with goat cheese, cherries and lamb bacon... excellent! For dinner, we ordered the Elk, the Lamb special and a Wagyu beef entree. Two of us shared the elk (which came with 2 large chops) and the lamb (4 chops) and I couldn't decide what one was better. It was whatever bite I was eating when asked. It was our first time eating elk and we ordered it because we saw it come to the table next to us and it looked fabulous. The look on the girls face who took a bite sealed the deal. It was as good as it looked. Crusted and slightly spiced, cooked to perfection with garlic mash and carrots. A blackberry sauce accompanied the dish and was the perfect compliment. The lamb chops were perfect as well and fresh, delicious and perfect. Overall it was an absolutely phenomenal meal with a patient, excellent waiter named Frank who explained everything to us and was attentive and made our experience fantastic. This will be my first stop when I next get to Breckenridge!

One of our best meals in Breck! A small, but excellent menu - we all struggled with what to order because it all sounded so delicious. We each ordered a different meal - lamb, bison, salmon, and butternut squash ravioli - and we devoured it all. Plus we started with excellent salads, bread, and a delicious chocolate cake to top off the meal. We walked away very full, but very satisfied. Loved the preparation on each dish and the service was great too. A must go to, but make sure you have reservations.

My favorite Breckenridge restaurant - always a treat and worthy of a special occasion. The setting is very intimate, in an old Victorian house. I recommend trying to go around sunset as some tables provide a great view of the sunset over the mountain. I don't think I've had a bad dish here, but the crispy lobster app, blackberry elk entree and huckleberry bread pudding (when in season) are all delightful. Order a bottle of wine and enjoy the great service and ambiance!

Nice decor and we really liked sitting outside. The service was excellent but we were disappointed by the food. I had the special: sole (fish) in a raspberry sauce. The sauce was disgusting and wish I would have got on the side. I tried to dry off the fish but it didn't make a difference. She had the shrimp and grits. Shrimp was cooked well but the overall dish was below average. We were expecting more after reading the reviews.

Came here with a large group and had a good time here. The dinner and experience were great though I feel like I'm grading a little on a curve since it is a resort town restaurant. Luckily with a our large group and several wine connoisseurs in the mix were were able to keep our selves entertained since the service was slow - as mentioned in several posts. The atmosphere and story behind the restaurant are as interesting as the food. The Victorian house that it is in has been everything from a house, to hotel, to dive bar and even a brothel. As I mentioned the service was slow for our group, but the wine selection was good and I was sitting with a friend of mine who is the largest wine distributor in the mid-west so we were good passing the time with excellent choices. We started with several appetizers within the group including prosciutto wrapped scallops, panko crust lobster and mozzarella salad. Most were really good though I thought the lobster was a little over cooked and the sauce for the scallops (pea soup) didn't match the richness of the prosciutto/scallop - kind of brought the whole dish down for me. For entrees, as a group we tried most of the menu. I had the blackberry elk prepared medium rare. Was good, but something in the breading threw the dish off for me. The breading was a garlic and granola crust, but at first taste it tasted like a flour coating that just wasn't cooked enough. The blackberry sauce was good, though a little too sweet compared to the granola crusted elk. Seemed almost like a desert topping and not savory enough. My wife had the wagyu beef flank steak with dell mushrooms which was well prepared and presented. The preparation of the mushrooms in the dish made my wife finally appreciate how they can actually make a dish better, instead of just being tolerated. Others in our group raved about the short ribs and the chicken as being prepared extremely well. The wine and slower service kind of took care of desert so we were done after the main meal and 2+ hours. All in all an experience and would probably go back here on special occasions. Definitely pricey - at $30-45 per entree. Good views of the mountains at sunset and the atmosphere of the place make it special in Breck.

I've been eating at the Hearthstone for... decades. Despite the plethora of other high-end restaurants popping up in Breckenridge, the Hearthstone remains the standard by which all others are measured. Nothing you eat or drink here will be anything less than delicious. It's the best place in Summit County for a romantic dinner date.

Came here to celebrate the big 3-0 with honey while we were on vacation in Colorado. I will be the first to tell you I was in no way looking forward to the death of my 20s but dinner at Hearthstone was def one of the better ways to become a grown up! We had tried to make reservations a few days before and the internet said there was no room. Being that he is awesome honey called and was able to sweet talk us into a reservation. When we got there we had brought some champagne thinking we could just pay a corkage fee, luckily the girls up front didn't give us too hard of a time for being dumb californians. (Fun fact it is illegal to bring wine into a restaurant in Colorado! Be warned fellow wineos!) When we finally got to our table we were starving and dying of thirst! Our server (who I am sorry I forgot your name!) was all about the happy birthdays and gracefully laughed off my threats of arson if anyone tried to sing to me. We ordered some champagne and the Tips and Chips. Now I should probably disclaimer I am in love with almost anything that has truffle oil so this was a perfect choice for me. After much debate I ended up ordering a huge steak and honey got the filet. While we waited our server chatted with us for a bit and mentioned he is really familiar with Santa Cruz, as he comes out to photograph the Sea Otter every year. Now anyone who has been to certain parts of Colorado will tell you being from Cali is about the same as admitting devil worship or telling small children there is no Santa. So both honey and I were stoked to have someone who got we aren't the LA small dog "OMG SELFIE!" type of Californians. Finally our food came and I can tell you it was AMAZEBALLS! My steak was perfectly medium rare and the truffle fries were like heaven in little golden strips. I literally thought I was going to throw up from refusing to leave any left overs! Then the staff brought me a chocolate something that was super delicious and better in that it came with no staff members singing to me :) Overall we would totally come here again as it was a great time. I'd break it down as follows: PROS: YUMMY FOOD GREAT SERVICES (They are totally able to accommodate Gluten free, special requests, etc) REASONABLY PRICED ($140 for a bottle of wine, appetizer, 2 meals, and dessert) CONS: OLDER CROWD (Honey and I felt a little out of place as most our fellow diners were 50+ and a few seemed to disapprove of our tattoos.) SMALL BAR (Don't be early cuz theres not really anywhere to grab a drink)

AGAIN, this superb restaurant continues to impress us! From the ambiance, (once a brothel a long time ago,) to the terrific service, (with Brandy this time) the taste of the great dinner choices and it's presentation, the bar, wine list, I can go on and on!. Do treat yourself too!

I've been coming to Breck for 9 years and this is the fiest resturant where although the price is high, it balances with taste, quality and service. By far the best resturant around! We started with scallops and cheese pastry..... OH MY! Wish I can remember what the cheese pastry was called but it had fruit and once you opened the pastry, the cheese, apples and crainberries melted out of it, by far the best appetizer/cheese dish I've ever had. Scallops, they were good I just kept snacking on the cheese pastry. For dinner I had the blackberry elk, it is the most expensive but totally worth it! My family had gotten the ribeye and bison ribs. Only reason why I gave this resturant 4 stars was because my fathers steak was raw when he asked for medium rare. It was so raw, he said it was chewy. Service was great though, the girl and us had a wonderful conversation about wine and spain, she was very pleasent and by the end of the meal, us and four other tables all found out we all had some kind of connection and itnmade the meal very enjoyable. Most certainly I will come back just make sure the meal is prepared to how we wanted it.

We enjoyed the appetizers tonight. We sat upstairs and had a nice view of the mountains. Spinach salad (with a goat cheese and strawberry egg roll) crab cakes (with an onion and fennel salad) and the chile relleno (with a green tomatillo salsa) For dessert we had the bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. ------- We liked it so much we came back two nights later for their happy hour. We had the spinach and mushroom pizza. And the beer batter prawns. We hiked nine miles today and swam Yesterday we hiked only four miles and had to turn around due to too much snow. We went on 10 mile bike ride along blue river, the hubby did 20......

Beautiful old Victorian house with fantastic view of the slopes. Family enjoyed scallops wrapped in prosciutto, followed by lamb and a perfectly prepared steak. Stuffed salmon was devoured by teenager in the family. Dessert was the famous cake & shake. A bit pricy, but we were in town for 4 days, and only ate out for dinner one time, so figured would splurge a bit. Phenomenal service: our waiter, Adam, was very knowledgeable, friendly, and bent over backwards (but with a great attitude the entire time) to work with one family member's food allergies. Even for Breck, might be a bit pricy, thus "only" the 4 stars. Food was a 5. Service a 5. Decor a 4.5 (4 for me; 5 for wife).

We sat at the bar. Service was excellent, attentive and spot on. Cauliflower soup was quite tasty, highly recommended. The tender elk chops were a flavorful main course. The buffalo short ribs on the other hand were just okay. Not as flavorful as expected, but that's probably due to the fact that bison meat generally runs on the lean side. The carrot cake for dessert hit the spot for our sweet tooth. The atmosphere at the bar was unhurried and cozy, only five seats. This is a great place for dinner.

Loved this place. It's a perfect place for a romantic dinner or a small get together with family or friends. It's not terribly loud in there so you can still speak at a normal decibel and be heard. The ambience is perfect antique coziness. I tried to make reservations online to no avail, but the boyfriend got reservations on the phone. So if you're ever looking to make reservations, don't forget to try calling or stopping in! We were whisked upstairs immediately upon checking in for our reservation and were seated at a corner table where we could sit next to each other and look out the window view. The view was of the street and cute houses outside, but with the snow it was beautiful. With us facing outward it also made the dinner seem more private - all from a corner table! Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and helpful - giving us recommendations, her favorites, and the specials of course. We ordered the gnocchi to start. The gnocchi was the perfect, tender consistency, lightly fried to have that slight crunch on the outside with a soft inside. It was paired heavenly with perfectly roasted brussel sprouts, small chunks of bacon, and was impossibly good when dipped in the red wine butter sauce it came with. I wish they served that in entree size, it would be well worth it and I could finish the whole plate in minutes of it being served. Delicious! For entrees the s.o. ordered the wagyu flank steak and I ordered the prime rib. The flank steak was very flavorful but it was also very, very chewy. It took a long while of chewing for a piece to go down, but the seasoning was impressive. The brussel sprouts and the accompaniments were okay, but nothing special. The prime rib was delicious!! I've had my share of prime rib and this was one of the better ones. You could taste the seasoned crust on the outside of the whole cut, and the meat was just perfectly done at medium rare. It had all the flavor that I had hoped, I'm salivating just thinking about it now! It was perfectly paired with au jus and a small bowl of creamy horseradish. The truffled creamed spinach had just the slightest hint of nutty truffle. The scalloped potatoes were a little greasy but was still good. By the end of the meal we were too stuffed to get dessert, but wish we could have. I would've liked to draw out the meal a little longer, it was the perfect night. But admittedly, like others have mentioned this place is pretty pricey, but it makes for a great date night. Would definitely come back and can't wait to do it again another time we're in Breck.

Friendly staff, great atmosphere. Perfect place to eat in Breck when you want a higher end meal. Surveyed the locals and they all said, go to Hearthstone if you want an upscale meal with a non-stuffy atmosphere. We were not disappointed. Food was very well prepared, prices were reasonable. Go here for your "one nice, upscale meal" while in Breck

Hearthstone was set in a beautiful house and was a solid meal. I didn't love the lobster appetizer, but the soup was rather delicious. The scene stealer for us was the salted caramel ice cream...wow. You won't be disappointed if you go here.

Great food, wonderful service. We had a table next to the window so that we could look outside while it was raining. Despite the miserable weather we enjoyed the restaurant thanks to the food and the great service. Will return when back in Breckenridge.

Great restaurant in Breckenridge. We had the seared scallops for an appetizer and they were incredible. Salmon and the Striped Bass were very good. However, I wish we had ordered the entree of ginger crusted scallops or the Filet or the Colorado Lamb. All looked great at near by tables. Eating area is a little tight in an old Victorian home. Decor isn't really my style but love the food at this restaurant.

My son and I went since both Yelp and the hotel recommended it. The Elk was out of this world. We were able to share it since the portion was large. The Sea Scallops from P.E.I. were also very good. You can't go wrong with this restaurant. Highly recommend it and could definitely make for a romantic night if you wanted to. Also, FYI ~ make reservations through Yelp and will get in way faster than showing up or using their own site to make reservations.

We came here on a Friday night. Called ahead and made a reservation for 7:15 which is highly recommended. We started with two cocktails, the Strawberry Serrano martini and Manhattan. Neither one were anything to write home about but were decent. For appetizers we had the prosciutto wrapped scallops and one of the specials, mussels in a red curry sauce. The scallops were pretty good but I wouldn't order them again for $12. Same goes for the mussels. The sauce was good but the mussels themselves were very small. This restaurant earned four starts because of the entrees. I had the buffalo short ribs and my boyfriend had the flank steak. They were both absolutely amazing. For dessert we had the cake and shake (5 layer carrot cake with a small shake on the side). This was very good as well. Our waiter was wonderful and I would definitely go about back; just this time I would pass on the cocktails and appetizers. Our bill came to $160 with a 20% tip. While expensive, I thought it was reasonable for what we got and well worth it.

Very, very, very, good spot in Breck. Friends of a friend (that I now consider my friends too) live here in Breck year round and knowing what a foodie i am since my friend talks me up so much, brought us here. I have to admit I was a little tipsy having just come from the Breckenridge Craft Spirit fest but if anything I think my senses were even more heightened by all the whiskey tasting we had just done. The server was very knowledgeable and friendly and the two couples I was with went with the Hearthstone passport dinner for two which is a prixe fixe menu that benefits a local charity. I was looking for a little palate pleasing so I ordered three of their starters as my meal. I had an heirloom tomato salad (that wasn't on the menu but my waitress said that since I asked if there heirlooms in their caprese that it was available), the pork belly sliders, and the beef wellington. The heirloom tomato salad was everything I had hoped it would be, nice firm ripe chunks of yellow, green, red, and purple tomato flecked with basil with I believe a kiss of champagne balsamic, the pork belly sliders were also just as I hoped they would be, tender, fat rendered out, caramelized chunks of pork with a tasty glaze, topped with a touch of slaw and light sauce and finally the beef wellington, tender and moist beef tenderloin tips, point reyes blue cheese, in a light puff pastry crust, crispy onion strands, and a madeira wine/shallot sauce... my mouth is watering. I didn't want to ply the whiskey in my stomach with wine so I had a Great Divide Titan IPA and a nice strong cup of coffee to finish. Good times, good place. Thanks M and B!

We had our wedding dinner here (with about 25 guests), and the food and service were amazing. We chose from a number of preselected menus. For appetizers we chose the shrimp/bacon wrapped scallops/mini beef wellingtons, and for the entrée we chose prime rib/chicken/sea bass. The scallops were delicious and the prime rib was huge! There were many small children in our party, and the wait staff was very understanding. They brought complimentary platters of fruit and cheese to help keep the kids quiet. I am from out of town, and it was easy to plan the dinner with the help of their events coordinator. She was very organized and responded to all my inquiries in a timely manner.

We were here over new years 2013 and myself and two friends had dinner here. It was beyond our expectations. The food, the atmosphere and the service were all wonderful. We only wish we did not come to hte Hearthstone earlier as we would have been back to try the short ribs. If you are looking for a great menu to please everyone, have an awesome atmosphere and great service you wont be disapointed. Make your reservations...........Enjoy.

Excellent service. Had the elk chops and they were awesome. Serving game that is cooked properly and is not overpoweringly gamey takes skill. Appetizers and main dishes were all unique, well prepared and delicious. You will likely have an enjoyable experience here. Enjoy!

Stopped in for Happy Hour yesterday and it is a great option among Breckenridge's plentiful Happy Hour choices. The Moscow Mule and small plates were very good, especially the beef tenderloin taco. Definitely worth a stop, just get there early as this fill up fast. Even so the people are friendly so sharing a table is definitely not a bad thing.

Full disclosure: this review is two years old. I'm transferring my google reviews to yelp. I had been psyched about trying the Hearthstone ever since I saw their menu online, and we planned it as the final meal on our winter vacation to Colorado. I had been a little nervous that it would not meet the expectations I had for it, but I had nothing to fear! This experience was fantastic in every regard. We went on a Tuesday evening, and did not bother with reservations. The hostess greeted us warmly and sat us immediately. The whole restaurant has beautiful Victorian decor without being tacky, and the location makes it a great stop after skiing or hiking. The only weird thing was the music; I love classic rock, but do not care to hear it while at a fine dining establishment. Our waitress, Brittany, was a true pro; she managed to make small talk and check on us frequently without ever being annoying, and she handled our questions and delivered the specials of the night beautifully. We ordered the "grilled cheese" appetizer, and were blown away by how delicious such a simple dish could be. We both got the organic salad, and the vanilla pomegrante dressing was so amazing, I wanted to ask if they had bottles of it I could buy. Even the bread at the table was phenomenal. Heads up: they had a vegetarian menu outside, but we did not get it when we sat down. Brittany brought it to us the second I asked for it, though. However, because we still ate meat back when we went, my guy got the elk loin as his entree and I got the camembert-stuffed chicken. Both were flavorful and cooked beautifully. Yes, the bill was steep (a little steeper than I expected, to be honest, since we did not order alcohol), but I really think it was worth it. This is not the sort of place you would go to every day, but for a romantic dinner or special occasion, I would definitely recommend the Hearthstone. I cannot imagine a better ending to our stay in Colorado.

Hearthstone and Relish are the 2 places to go for fine casual dining. Hearthstone is a quaint old house turned restaurant. The service is fantastic. I had the shrimp and grits. As good as I've had. When we go back, I'll have that again. My wife had the cedar plank salmon and loved. Hearthstone is a definite go to restaurant.

Absolutely fabulous! It's an older home (supposedly haunted too... :) which is great for this time of year). The menu is decent length but everything we had was delicious and cooked just the way we liked. The waitress was super nice and the whole staff checked in on us every so often. The night we were there, they made extra effort around another couple who had just gotten engaged and that was really sweet of them.

The setting of the restaurant alone is almost worth 5 stars. It is set in a Victorian house that really helps to give a nice atmosphere. Then the food is amazing. My wife got the tomato and mozzarella salad and the elk and loved both of them. The portion of elk was huge and she was only able to finish half of it. I got the filet and was very pleased. It was super tender and just the right size. A great place to go to have a nice dinner when you feel like spending a little more

Supposedly the best place in Breck. Sorry but not to me. It was okay. The bison short ribs were decent tasting but there was a bit of bitterness in the sauce(no idea why). My friends food came out a little on the cold side. The risotto was not like any risotto I have ever had, overly super creamy and overcooked rice. They should cut the portions down a little(I know-complaining about too much?) as the bison could have fed 2 people. All in all it was better than the place at the resort but I have been to others in Breck that are better(See Le Petit Paris).

Everyone told us to try Hearthstone because we would love it....they were all RiGHT! The food and ambiance was perfect! If you plan on going anytime soon ask for Jasmine for a waitress! She made an already amazing restaurant Outstanding! From her great recommendations to her witty flair, she was added bonus! Coming from a couple that resides in the fattest city in America ( because our restaurants ROCK!) this is a must when in Breckenridge!

Very dated interior but cool looking patio. Good service and above average food. We saw that this restuarnat was rated as one of the best in Breck. I think that might be overselling it a little but I do have to admit the service was some of the best we had while there. I wish we would have sat outside because the inside (at least where we were upstairs) felt like I was in someone's grandparents house.

I went with my family for Mother's Day. Everything we ordered was absolutely incredible, we all sampled each others food and there was not a single complaint around the table. Our waiter was attentive and very professional, just what you would expect for fine dining. I have celiacs and for the hearthstone to have a separate gluten free menu with such a large variety of options is great. I had the salmon and tried the elk, lamb, and scallops all were delectable. Later we ordered creme brûlée and a chocolate dipped Bartley pear, once again amazing. I highly recommend.

Hearthstone is legit. I had the Elk and my wife had some scallops. We both thought that the portions could be larger but the food itself was fantastic. The service was good, as expected in a nice place such as this. I recommend going here during the mud season when things are slower, this place gets pretty busy during high seasons. All in all this is a pretty good place for a 2 person date, or a crowd. Get the Elk!

Great food, service, and atmosphere. We had the Elk and the Lamb both were excellent. My wife loves lamb and she says this is the best she has had. I'm thinking we have paid a lot more for lamb than that. A place we must eat every time we are in Breck.

Out of all the ski destinations in Colorado, Breckenridge gets my nod due it's quaint, awesome little town. Out of all the restaurants in Breck, Hearthstone takes the cake due to its quaint decor and stellar service. Yelp shopped a few restaurants in town, visited many to find all of them packed. walked in to hearthstone and was lucky enough to nab two seats at the upstairs bar. success. This Skier's saloon is fashioned from an old house, and as such, dining rooms are, well, dining rooms. take a walk to the upstairs and you'll find a cozy bar well stocked with local breckenridge bourbon. bar staff was on point with perfectly crafted classic cocktails. thier wine list didnt disappoint either. When it came time for dinner, the Pork belly and poached egg salad was a great start, delicate on dressing but abundant on flavor. just the right amount of texture. Our mains that evening were a blue crab stuffed trout and the local elk loin with a blackberry reduction/ drizzle. Like my ski pass says: EPIC. dessert was perfect, albeit we were stuffed well before then. a Bourbon vanilla Milkshake is one great way to cap off a great meal. From their hostess to the bar staff to the bussers, everyone had polish and a smile.

Busiest weekend of the year, party of 8, no reservations. This place was booked up way in advance. But, hubby took a chance the night before, walking in and asking for a reservation face to face. I think he was told no 3 times when suddenly his dining savior appeared and said yes, we could come, at 6:15. Yay! The meal was a two and a half hour experience, but never was it lacking. Katie did a great job keeping our various drinks flowing and various nibbles in our bellies. Several in our party of 9 ordered elk, and really enjoyed it. One had the shrimp and grits and said it was good, but he wasn't quite 'oohing and ahhing' the way others were. The salmon was excellent, as was the fillet mignon and I heard numerous times that the rainbow trout consumed in Breckenridge was out of this world. We finished with a triple chocolate decadence that was sinfully delicious. Oh my! We just had a great time...great company, cozy environment in a snowstorm, yummy drinks that warmed us quite well, great service and excellent food!

A guy eats at a fancy restaurant with a beautiful woman... The fancy restaurant is Hearthstone Restaurant, and the beautiful woman is my wife. We went on a trip for our 1 year wedding anniversary to beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado. We stayed at their #1 lodge (according to TripAdvisor), so it was only fitting that we eat at their #1 restaurant (according to TripAdvisor). Placing a reservation was easy, especially when using the Yelp app! The restaurant is an old Victorian-style house, with an amazing view of the mountains. Climbing the stairs allows you to appreciate the history of this house. We decided to take a few pictures of us with the mountain view in the background. Such a beautiful view from the restaurant! The hostess was very nice and remembered that we were the couple celebrating our anniversary. We were sat at one of the tables closest to the windows facing the same breath-taking mountain view. Our waitress introduced herself and was very knowledgable with the menu. She gave us all the time we needed, acknowledging our anniversary with two glasses of champagne on the house! We started off with the crab cakes. A delicious combination of pan-seared blue crab, mixed greens, avocado and a ginger citrus vinaigrette. I've had crab cakes on the occassion at other restaurants, but these were very well cooked and the presentation on the plate was very appealling. Our entrees were up next. My wife ordered the Colorado lamb, which was lamb medallions still on the bone. It was on a bed of spinach and a goat cheese cream with a cherry port wine sauce to top it all off. Very well presented on the plate and cooked to her liking. I ordered the center cut filet mignon, an eight ounce natural black angus tenderloin with a malbec demi glace. It was situated on top of yukon gold anna potatoes, braised balsamic shallots, crispy onions and sauteed garlic spinach. We couldn't do desert (too much good food), but their desert menu did look very tempting, especially their "cake & shake" combo. Overall, the service and the food were perfect. The views were amazing and the memories of eating at this restaurant will remain with us forever. A great place to celebrate our wedding anniversary! We will be back in Breckenridge next year and will definitely be looking to dine at Hearthstone again.

Went here for our 3 year wedding anniversary. Definitely a 5 star restaurant. Excellent food and service. The best part is that it's a typical Colorado restaurant meaning that the dress code is casual. Definitely will come back next time we r in town!

Every time we try this restaurant we arrive with high hopes only to have them dashed. Forever off my list and we live in breckenridge. Cold food, helpful but poorly equipped staff. So much potential .. So many times dissapointed .

I was very disappointed. It was supposed to be one of the best places in town but they don't know how to prepare a french salad. The fried egg was completely hard and the rest of the salad without flavor. The elk was dry overcooked and not very interesting. Next time I will pass..... For what they charge you it was pretty pathetic

  • Aman S.

This place was ok when it comes to fine dining. I had higher expectations. The place was packed, but I felt the bison short rib and the salad/bread were just okay. The polenta was too dense and flavor-less. The parmesan encrusted poached egg on top of my salad was probably the best thing I had there.

Dinner at renowned restaurant in an old Victorian house, in Breckenridge- check. I've got to say, the aura of the place is pretty cool. The foyer is pretty small and difficult to navigate when it's busy. Bonus points for the coat tree. We had a res and were whisked away to our table in one of the downstairs dining rooms. Prompt service ensued with water glasses filled and wine recommendations made. Upon hearing the waiter explain the dinner special of lamb with a risotto cake, my mind was made up. Some bread comes out w/ a tub of butter while waiting for the entrees. Yes, butter to bread ratio of 10:1. The lamb lollipops a perfect medium rare. This was a perfect plate of food, the risotto cake accompanies oh so perfectly. Also tried the hangar steak with roasted potatoes and would have been happy with it as well. I would pass on the creme brulee, strange flavor that we couldn't pinpoint and the temperature of it seemed off. I'm going with the bread pudding next time. You should check out Hearthstone if you got an extra few hundred bucks- you'll leave happy.

Elk tenderloin a must! For anyone who may think it might be gamey it's not!! I like my meat well done and it was along with being SOFT and JUICY!!! Believe me not many people can pull that off. Whole meal was amazing as was the staff and atmosphere. Definitely a must go!

My family including two younger children ate at Hearthstone last night. Our server Jesse was very helpful through the meal. Two of us had filet and another had lamb, and they were prepared perfectly. Hearthstone has a pretty nice wine selection, and we selected two nice reds to accompany our meal I would like to rate Harthstone five stars and if I could rate them 4.5, i would. We had two other fabulous meals this week in Breckenridge that were the same price point and overall slightly better. This is why I rated 4 stars. However this was an excellent meal and would still recommend.

We love Happy Hour @ the Hearthstone! The bar/lounge is cozy during the winter & their patio has one of the best summer views in Summit County! Try the jalapeño shrimp or homemade lamb meatballs. The wine list is good and they have a decent selection of Colorado beers.

I'm a food network junkie and this restaurant surpassed all our expectations. My husband and I have eaten in the best restaurants from NYC to Vegas to California and this is the BEST restaurant we've been too. The bacon and egg salad was INCREDIBLE! I had the shrimp and grits which was delicious and my husband had the Colorado lamb shank which was amaZing. The only problem was we didn't save room for dessert. Definitely recommend if you are in Breck!

Really lovely meal at hearthstone. In fact, if I could I'd give it another 1/2 star:-) Lovely Victorian building lends atmosphere, friendly attentive service, great wine list, and the menu was fantastic. We started with the Gnocchi with roasted brussel sprouts, and lamb bacon. Lamb bacon! Yum!!!! We also had the Colorado Spinach Salad. Really great flavors and the strawberry goat cheese egg roll the comes with it is AMAZING! Had the Blackberry Elk which was wonderful. Oddly, one piece was a perfectly medium rare, and the other was... just rare. The piece was whisked away for a few minutes and came back perfect. For dessert, the Cake & Shake... carrot cake (yum!) and breckenridge distillery bourbon- vanilla milkshake (Yes!!!!!). All in all, a great evening. A solid 4.5 stars. Would be a 5 if it didn't feel quite so big, but I guess that's what happens when you're a success:-)

The Hearthstone is a great restaurant. It's cute, food was great, service was very good, staff was really friendly and helpful. Absolutely taste-bud utopia. Started out during happy hour with nice drink specials and the great spicy tacos appetizer. After that we were seated for dinner and ordered the lamb shank and blackberry elk, both of which were nothing short of fantastic. Combine that all with excellent service and you can't go wrong.

The Hearthestone, can you ever think of the right words to describe this place? We had tried to book this place for Valentines day but they were booked so we ended up having dinner here for our last day of our Winter week in Colorado. To make it short there isn't a bad thing I will say about this place. Walked in with a 9:30 reservation and we were seated within 5 minutes, instantly served with fresh bread with insanely tasty butter. Our whole meal was complimented by a Robert Mondavi "Private Selection" Cabernet. I ordered the prosciutto wrapped scallops for an appetizer which just melted in my mouth and filled with flavor. Now the main entree's, I will start with my girlfriends chicken which was done perfectly, two things I must mention about our relation to chicken. My girlfriend eats chicken all the time and to know that she loved it makes me so happy but I tried a bite of it myself and I greatly dislike chicken but Hearthstones chicken was like I said perfect. Now the piece de la resistance, The Elk dish was everything I could hope for. The carrots were ummm and the mashed potatoes were ahhhh, BUT the Elk was like a little piece of heaven with every bite. The whole thing came together perfectly with the nice atmosphere of the revamped Victorian home and the amazing service of our waitress Sarah who was so kind to make it possible for us to make the shuttle home. I almost forgot that the bread pudding we had was by far the best I have ever had. If you have a chance this is the place for you even tho it may cost a little bit more then the regular dinner it is well worth every SINGLE bite.

*Warning: this review is for their customer service via the phone!* My brother in law was going to visit Breckenridge with his girlfriend over the holidays, so the husband and I gave them a gift certificate for Hearthstone. I called and ordered the gift certificate, and the manager was very friendly. But I messed up and gave them an old address... in Hawaii. So it wasn't forwarded in time for their trip. I called back, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, telling me they'd noted the gift certificate on his reservation and would just give him the credit in person. But then BIL had to reschedule the reservation, so I had to call back again. And Hearthstone accommodated our mixup once again. That makes three obnoxious phones calls made by me, and three easy-going, helpful responses by Hearthstone.

Loved the place, over all very good. Reservations don't mean much here, on a Monday night we waited over 25 minutes for our table. But that doesn't reflect on the popularity and over all quality of the food and service. They tried to offer a free drink but didn't pick up on it. The skinny: apps Beef Wellington was fantastic Ravioli not so good Salad is salad As for the main course, much better: Duck was great - 8 of 10 Elk was amazing - delicious rare And the filet mignon was an 8 of 10 at medium temperature It was the service and drinks that brought the score from 4 to 3. Our waitress Canaan was great - mentioned that the farm raised salmon could swim. But we had to work it a bit, at first we thought it was going to be horrible but with a little effect she came around. Overall it was great but life is in the details and they didnt nail it. For $50 a person they would get a 4 if not a 5, but at $75 plus I cain't give them more than a 3 for the customer service, wait time, drink proportion and over all quality on apps- however I have never had better Elk.

Had an unplanned dinner here last night. Spent most of the afternoon in Breckenridge on our last day of a quick 5 day Colorado long weekend and Yelped our way to Hearthstone before the drive back to Denver. It was one of those times where the timing, the place, the food and the service come together in a perfect way. Being with Eileen didn't hurt either. We would go back in a second without hesitation. A gem.

Food was superb. Elk with blackberry sauce--delish! Ambiance also amazing! Only criticisms: need to have local beer on draft, need to train waitstaff not to leave the check on the table until we are done with dessert/drinks...

My mission, to find a place that would take a last minute dinner reservation for 13 people - Hearthstone came through in a big, big way! The actual restaurant is charming to say the least. The service was wonderful and the food...oh, the food! We started with one of their specials, a curry mussel dish - delightful!! We each sampled each other's entrees - the lamb was my favorite. Just perfectly cooked. The braised short ribs were another favorite! The wine list was excellent, but we did not manage to save room for dessert. I would go back in a heartbeat. Great service and wonderful food for our big group! Pricey, but worth every penny.

Recently had the pleasure of trying Hearthstone and am so glad I did! My parents and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals...there was not one appetizer, main course, or dessert that didn't put a smile on our faces. Nothing quite like having a delicious, warm, cozy meal overlooking the lovely winter wonderland setting outdoors. As a "local", this will definitely become a regular dining destination for me.

This review is just for the happy hour food. We arrived really early and they weren't serving dinner for another hour.... We had two small-plate menus and dined upstairs in the bar area. It felt very much like an old, historic B&B up there. The small plates that were only 5 bucks (that we ordered) were good. We had the stuffed shrimp, the lamb meatballs, and the beef tenderloin tacos. All of them were good and a good value, but I would probably not order the shrimp again, but that's just me. Our favorite, though, was the $13 beef wellington appetizer and the baked brie (don't remember the cost), which were on the regular starter menu. OMG, the beef wellington was the real star here! YUMMY. The brie was quite awesome as well. Our server was as sweet as can be and helped us pick. We received GREAT SERVICE and NO ATTITUDE about us not ordering drinks. (Owners, she had an accent from down under--incase you want to know who this delightful woman was.) My only regret is that I had to leave town before having the opportunity to have dinner here.....

I went into Hearthstone on a Thursday night by myself to enjoy a great meal. The host asked me politely if I was ok with being seated at the bar and I gladly accepted as the restaurant was very busy. The restaurant is situated in an old Victorian house, which makes it very unique and gives it its own style. I was greeted at the bar by Maia (?) who quickly attend to me and took me through the menu. They are currently running a 3 course special for $29 and I decided to go with that as they were some tasty selections to choose from. I started with a wild boar sausage with a glass of Pinot Noir followed by a cream of asparagus-lemon soup with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and finished with a Moroccan style braised lamb shank with fingerling potatoes in a cream sauce and fresh spinach along with another glass of Pinot Noir. I was reluctant on going with the 3 course deal, but the portion sizes were perfect and I did not have room for dessert, unfortunately. The experience was great and just what I needed to get me through a very long and stressful week. Special thanks goes to the bartender who was great and took care of me.

Always great food and a must do for tourist! Little known fact......in the mining days this was the largest brothel within a 100 miles! But now its just good food....great food

Everything was excellent. We had one issue that I will list at the bottom, but it did not change my review. (The review is long but I'm covering everything. That's how strongly I feel.) The restaurant is located in an old Victorian home and is beautifully renovated. The menu is only 2 pages. Starters and entrees (desserts seperate). The menu is small and starters range 8-14 while entrees range 21-38. Grapefruit juice was very good. We started with ceaser and spinach salads ($9, Great dressings). For dinner, we had the blackberry elk, ginger sea scallops, and filet with 4oz lobster. All items and their sides were made to perfection, med-rare elk and med-well filet (oy!), and the scallops were perfectly tender and flavorful. I would definately come back. Dinner will run you ~$50/person with a drink, entree, and tip (no booze). The issue: We found a hair in one of our salads (it's a restaurant, it happens). We told our server, who immediately took it away, apologized, and got us a manager. The manager apologized and was very sincere and genuine with the numerous apologies he gave us. They comp'd the salad and offered us all dessert. By the time we finished entrees, we were full and I asked him if we could skip dessert and maybe comp another one of the $9 salads. He instead offered to comp the entree of the person who had the hair. A filet mignon + lobster that was +$40. This is how a good restaurant takes care of their guests and I will definately come back.

The Hearthstone Restaurant is located just a block or two off Main Street and is set in a gorgeous 120 year-old Victorian house. We started with the crab cakes, which were amazing and the beef wellington, which we glossed over has blue cheese in it - which we weren't thrilled with, but that was really our fault and not the restaurant's. Myself and a friend ordered the Idaho trout stuffed with crab and it was delicious! Another had the Ginger Sea Scallops and they were also really good. Great ambiance, attentive, but not hovering service and amazing food. Definitely want to go again!

First off the little house where this restaurant is located is beautiful! It's in a big old Victorian house decorated to reflect the Christmas spirit. The menu is made of mostly upscale traditional food. They have seasonal game from around Colorado. There are also really good salads and appetizers such as the scarron ham and blood orange salad. The food was well prepared and very flavorful.

Friendly staff and delicious food. The seafood as well as meat entres are very good. Setting is old Victorian house on multi levels.

Really exceptional service and cuisine. The only reason for the 4 star rating is the 5th star floated away with my cash, just like the tab.

So My Girlfriend and I visited here last Sunday. The service was Great, The food was good, over priced a little but good. The atmosphere was good, not as romantic as the reviews lead us to believe. Having said that, it was nice. Food we ate: beef wellington appetizer = was good, we split it. Big, glad we split it crab stuffed trout = Best thing we ate at the place, my Girlfriend loved it. Elk steaks = Good meal, but I thought it could have been over seasoned. I could not taste the elk at all. I wanted to taste the elk. Still good, but not as good as I would have liked for $39. I guess to close my thoughts Id say, I gave it 3 stars because of price. If it was about $10 cheaper a plate I would have given it 4 stars. 5 stars is extremely hard to get from me!

Well, this is really not my review. It's based on my friend's recent visit, but since I am eager to try this place next time I visit Breck, I wanted to put it on my profile for future reference. Anyways, my friend had a fantastic dinner with his wife. He said the steak and the service were outstanding. Give the place five stars he said. So here it is.

A group of us in town for an event went here for dinner. Beautiful old Victorian style house converted into a restaurant. Rumor has that it used to be a brothel. Among us all we ordered a lot of different dishes, including elk, prime rib, fish. Everyone proclaimed it excellent. My elk was fantastic, tender and medium rare with a nice spiced crust. Along with great mashed potatoes and baby carrots. I also ordered a side of green beans that were crisp and fabulous. The desserts were off the hook. We all shared. Creme Brûlée, berry tart, chocolate decadence cake, banana split. Yum. It is one of the most expensive places in town, but the food and service are top notch.

I generally steer clear of crab cakes because I don't like deep fried dishes and most are so. These are seared blue crab. Tasty. Filet was excellent as were the sides (we subbed the sides from the prime rib (they had run out of prime rib)). I did not order desserts, but my fellow diners did. The chocolate desserts are very good. I'd skip the bread pudding. Service was good. The setting itself is a bit odd - a house that could use some updating. But overall a great meal.

We ate our wedding night dinner at Hearthstone- just the two of us. You can say my expectations were pretty high. First our waiter- knowledgeable about the food, polite, and attentive. He really helped make our experience great. We ordered an '08 bottle of Chilean cab, and thought it was very good. Somewhat full bodied for around $30, which is rare at such a high end restaurant. They had many options in the lower price end, $20 to $40, which is always nice to not be stuck with only three choices. Their wine list is extensive, so I'm glad we decided fairly quickly. Our starter was the grilled cheese trio (tiny, about two bites worth per sandwich, but tasty) and tomato "soup." The waiter warned us that it wasn't really a soup, but rather a dipping sauce. I found the sauce to be a bit too sweet, but the grilled cheese were great. Bread and garlic crisps were also provided. We then ordered the fillet Mignon in a malbec demi glace and Idaho trout with stuffed crab in a tarragon butter sauce. My mouth is watering still thinking about it. They graciously substituted the Yukon mashers with some fingerling potatoes that were simmered in a goat cheese sauce. YUM. The dinner was the most well prepared and presented that I had devoured in a long time. Downside to the restaurant? I'm not a fan of Victorian decor. It's a classic Victorian home that the restaurant is situated in, so it fits, but I found the lace and trim a bit stuffy to the restaurants I usually frequent. There were patrons in t-shirts, so it's nice to know they don't take their restaurant too seriously.

Our experience at Hearthstone was definitely memorable and I agree with other reviewers, it is one of the best dining options in Breckenridge. We started our night on the patio with their happy hour - the ginger mojito was addictive and the tomato soup/grilled cheese appetizer although it didn't entirely deliver on expectations was delightful and innovative. Once we moved inside (it gets chilly at night in the summer!) the interior was a little more formal and didn't quite fit the feel of the restaurant or the menu but that was ok because the service and food were wonderful! After having appetizers, all I ordered was the Olathe sweet corn soup and I never knew something that simple, could taste that divine. My husband ordered the prairie raised chicken breast that was mouco camembert stuffed, smoked bing cherry demi, goat cheese with barley risotto and brussel sprouts and it was addictively good - we highly recommend it.

Initially I would have given this restaurant three or four stars, but I was a little insulted when they cancelled my reservation on open table when we clearly did have dinner there. We arrived early after snowboarding in breckenridge cause we were famished. I initially used open table earlier that day to book a reservation at 5pm. We arrived at 445pm. They sat us up at the bar with the happy hour menu and said we can order from the happy hour menu, thus we did. We had a couple of drinks and three of the items from the happy hour menu and a salad from the main menu. Food was ok, nothing spectacular and service was good, however that changed when I received an email that stated that our reservation was cancelled. Was it because we didn't have the main entrees from the menu? We were full off the happy hour menu and didn't feel the need to order anymore food. I don't know.

Went here for our engagement dinner and everything was perfect from our scallops for our app to my elk ,my fiances prime rib and our wonderful dessert! All of this was topped off by the most amazing service by our waitress Noel! Usually food like this comes with snooty atmosphere and stuffy service but none of that was found here!

Very nice setting. Friendly staff. The food is mediocre. I had the Colorado lamb chief special. The lamb was prepared carelessly. However my wife had the trout and loved it. I recommend this place for it's historic experience.
