Checked out Gray Rock trail and the river, found this cool spot on the descent. I sat right on the river, the views were amazing! The service was great. The food wasn't perfect, but it was good.

I have mixed feelings about this place. We drive by it extreme often on our way to the mountains. We have always wanted to check it out, so one day we went in. The service was great! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The view is absolutely gorgeous! We sat on the covered glass deck that sits right above the Poudre river. The drinks were delicious as well. They always have their doors open though...so there are a TON of flies buzzing around you and your food. The food was tasty! But...I had a burrito, it was like half the size of a normal burrito, and it was $18!!!! It was supposed to be smothered in green chili...but it was slightly drizzled with it at best. Apparently they cater heavily towards vegetarians because it cost $4 to add chicken to our burrito...and I maybe saw 5-6 pieces in there. It was an additional $3 to add guac, which was in the side and we only received a spoonful at most! Great place, beautiful few, friendly staff...but absolutely outrageous prices for the quality of food.

What a fun place to see live music. Everything is made from wood and it's in the mountains by a river--it kind of reminds me of the Country Bears part of Disneyland. It's a small and really intimate venue. I saw Conor Oberst (of Bright Eyes) and I was so close that it felt we were making eye contact for half the show. A lot of weed was being passed around--being at the Mish makes everyone feel like they're part of a community, I guess. The stage is higher than any stage I've seen, which is great if you're far away or standing behind someone tall, but it's not as great if you're in the front row having to do a back bend to see the musicians. A lot of people pay $15 to take the shuttle, which means that they're not driving home so they can drink a lot and dance a lot. Everything is better if you just accept this and get over the fact that someone's drunk mom keeps stepping on your feet. Parking is $40, which seemed a little ridiculous so we parked on the side of the road just past the Mishawaka property. A 3 minute walk was worth saving $40. There's no cell service or wifi up there, which is easy to complain about, but honestly it was kind of nice to not have people texting throughout the show. I didn't get any food there, so I have no idea how good it is. I did get a cup from the bar and filled it with tap water, though! I have no complaints about the tap water. 5 stars for the tap water.

When I find a place in the middle of nowhere (no other establishments with in a yelper's appetite) and the food is good, I know I have found a gem. And So it was. A very nice burger, Ono that Anet loved and charming staff to serve. Simple, with a deck overlooking the river, a gentle breeze, someone topping off my drink often, and a staff that made an error on the bill and very cheerfully updated everything. I would go back in a heart beat! (oops - I am not hungry yet). If you are driving this canyon road stop here and enjoy the local folk. I understand it turns into a real zoo on concert nights sometimes getting up to 900 people in a bar restaurant venue. Incredible and fun. For me the laid back afternoon burger by the river was a fabulous experience.

Over the years I have been here a few times but have been here twice in the last week. First time me and my man drove up to check out camping spots and decided to stop for a lunch by the river. We were lucky and got a nice table overlooking the river :) The server was very friendly :) We ordered a couple of sandwiches the Reuben and BBQ. The Reuben was really good and being the better of the two it was a good price at $9. All sandwiches are served with chips. The BBQ was good but it came with no sauce which we had to ask for. The service is slow but you do have the river to look at and we really enjoyed ourselves. The next time was after a few days camping we decided to go have breakfast before heading home. This was not such a good experience. The breakfast is very over priced at $10 each for most dishes. Our server just was not really with it and even took our water order to another table. The food was just ok and maybe it would have tasted better if it had cost around $6 as most regular breakfast do. If I'm paying $10 for eggs and beans it better be really good. But don't get me wrong this is a chill spot that you should go to but may want to go for lunch when you can just sit back and relax and enjoy the river :) As for location this place is five stars for sure and as a place to see music it's really cool but for food I can only give three stars.

Guessing most people come for the patio on the river...we did! Arrived at lunch time after a drive and some chilling along the Poudre. We arrived too late to get one of the river side tables but they were flexible in letting us move after a while - as long as we moved to another table in our server's section. I understand that. It was great to be outside - the music in the indoor venue area, even at lunch time, is extra loud and would probably make it hard to have a conversation. I had the fish taco wrap. It was good, tasty fish and good slaw. Needed some salsa though. I used Tabasco for some kick. Good onion rings. They only have two kinds of Tequila - Hornitos and Cuervo. Definitely more of a beer and vodka Redbull place. I mention that as the loud-drunken-camper table next to us was drinking beer with the vodka Redbull chasers. And then driving and riding motorcycles. At 2pm or so. Scary. Friendly service, clean bathroom, lovely location and fun people and river activity watching.

I love small venues next to the river, and this one is sure right up my alley. Saw Keller there, and it was amazing. However, they had hired a new security company to handle all of the security. They made for some real pains in the butt that make me second guess coming back: 1) Plan on being in line for 1 hour or more to get into the venue, even if you are VIP. There is one person who checks everyone's ID. However, do not worry about bringing contraband in, there is no checking at all. 2) It is more convenient to not purchase the VIP tickets as we found out. With VIP tickets, a security guy had us wait in line at will call, get a stamp that we later found out didn't do anything, and then wait in the regular line with everyone else. We would later find out that this security guy was wrong, and there was a special VIP section. But we found out that the VIP section is far in the back, drinks are more expensive, and you cannot see the stage very well from the VIP area, so we never used our VIP anyway, despite paying $15 more per ticket. 3) DO NOT mess with the security. I sat down on a log near the stage, without warning a security guy grabbed me and pushed me into these girls. He then loudly threatened that he would kick me out if I did it again. He then gestured to other security guards by touching his elbow, and 2 more dudes came over to stand over me for 10 minutes. This log was apparently too close to the stage, which was 10 feet away from the log. Whoa... 4) I was able to talk to someone who was not with the outsourced security group, some kind of manager. This lady looked like she was ready to pull my eyesockets out when I complained about the VIP service and the line. Wow, reminds me of my old boss in marketing. Total _____. Beers are $4-5 dollars, so that is good. There is no wine or hard liquor, except for yager and rumplemintz (flaming nazis anyone?). The bathrooms are really gross/overflowing with pee, with 10 portapotties. They are not really cleaned very often.

Ever tried Rocky Mountain Oysters? Yeah, me neither, but they're on the menu here if you ever get a hankering for deep fried buffalo testicles! Actually, the food here is really good, so I'm sure they are too, if I was into that kinda thing. :) Drive up the Poudre for a real treat in the mountains. It's a lodgy bar with a few TVs and a little dining area that hangs over the river, super cozy and cute. The staff is very friendly and allowed us to wander around the concert areas. Holy crap! I am so bummed I've never seen a show here because it is literally too cool for words. I've been to Red Rocks and the Gorge, Telluride even, but this place just looks like so much fun. Let me try to explain for you flatlanders out there: The bar/venue is located in a mountain canyon cut by the Cache La Poudre river. You can reach it by heading into the mountains west of Fort Collins. It will be on the right after about 45 minutes, and a bunch of windy turns but nothing scary. So as I mentioned above, the bar itself is pretty cool, and you can look straight down into the river from the dining area. The concert venue is outside, pretty much hanging over the river. There is a large deck on the back of the bar, a little beachy gravel area and a stage that hangs over the river. Beautiful and amazing. They host some big names in the summer, bluegrass, jam bands, jazz. It's only poor luck that I've never been in the area at the right time to catch a show, but after seeing the venue I know I need to make a better effort next year.

Beautiful location with a large patio. I've been here once while on a motorcycle ride through the area. The patio is directly over a river with a beautiful cliffside directly opposite (I've been told that you can often see goats there!). The service was fast, despite the fact that we had 9 people in our party, and very pleasant. I had the fish & chips. The fish was delicious! Smaller pieces of cod fried in a light batter. Crispy with a moist, soft center. The "chips" were seasoned french fries which were really, really good. Not one fry was bad or even mediocre. My bf had the french dip and really enjoyed it. The guy across from me had a cheese burger that looked really good - nice pink center and juicy! It looks like it'd be a cool place to hang out while seeing a live show. There is an outdoor stage and indoor stage. I was told that they are going to show Pink Floyd's The Wall sometime soon.

Ah, the Mish. Situated right on the banks of the Poudre River, the Mish is one of the best places to see a show, hands down. It's small, it's intimate, but it gets some really big-name acts... probably due to it's reputation of tucked-away awesomeness! Yes, Mishawaka is a fantastic place to see a show. Five super-enthusiastic stars for the Mish as a concert venue!! However... I feel like I can't gush and rave and throw love at the Mish without mentioning them in another context. That is to say, as a regular ol' Bar & Grill. We hit up the Mish for Sunday lunch on our way back from camping at Kelly Flats last weekend, and experienced one of THE WORST customer service encounters I've ever had... no question about it. Were my review just based on our lunch yesterday, I'd be giving the Mish one star... but I just can't do it. Not because of one lone, bitter, rude, miserable bitchy waitress. No matter how bitter, rude, miserable, or bitchy she was. To the waitress with long brown hair, wearing the green shirt, and plaid shorts on Sunday, September 8, 2008: you have NO BUSINESS BEING IN THE SERVICE INDUSTRY. Seriously. In the interest of remaining fair and balanced, I'll acknowledge that-- according to one of the other servers (who, incidentally, was smiling and joking even while appearing incredibly busy and slightly frazzled)-- two of the staff hadn't shown up for work that morning. So yeah, those who WERE there were working pretty hard. I get that. I've waited tables myself... I know how it is. HOW-EV-ER. I've found that if you simply let your customers in on that fact with a tired smile and a, "sorry about the wait, we're really slammed, I'm doing the best I can but please just bear with me," you'll not only earn yourself some slack but probably a bit extra on the tip as well. You know? Well... apparently our server (who will now be known as BW: Bitchy Waitress) didn't get that memo. After she ignored us for about 25 minutes (during which some of our group just ended up going to the bar, and the rest of which helped themselves to some water from the server station), all the while slamming silverware into the busser's bins and throwing plastic food baskets across tables, she finally came over and-- without so much as a greeting-- threw a stack of menus on our table. "I'll get to you when I can," she snarled at us. Okaaaaaay. For the record, it really wasn't THAT busy. I mean yeah, the patio was full, but it isn't huge AND there were two other servers working as well. Plus, everyone was mellow and laid back... no rush, no hurry. There was NO REASON she needed to be as aggro as she was. And oh... she WAS. When I tried to order my Grilled Cheese with sauteed mushrooms (for a buck extra, as stated clearly in the "add ons" section of the menu), she snapped at me, "we don't do substitutions." "Not a substitution," I clarified, pointing at the menu, "I just want them on the sandwich." "Not gonna happen," BW snarled again. "It's not me, it's the kitchen. We're slammed." I looked around at the mellow crowd, most of whom were just enjoying beers in the late summer sunshine. Not what I'd call slammed... but whatever. I didn't press the issue. When my friend mis-heard BW's super-speedy rattle-off of the cheeses available on her veggie burger and tried to order Pepper Jack, she was met with a shrill screech: "JUST JACK-- NOT PEPPER JACK!! JACK!!" Wow. When our orders showed up, she plunked the whole group of food baskets right in the middle of the table, stormed off, and let us distribute them among ourselves. Nice. As we ate our mediocre, overpriced food, we watched this prize specimen of waitresshood continue to storm around, slam stuff, and berate other customers. Later we'd learn that she'd recieved 8-- count 'em-- EIGHT complaints in the short time we were there. What a piece of work. When it came time to pay, we split the bill three ways. It just seemed easier to do it that way... can you imagine what would've happened if we'd asked her to start separate tabs for us at the get-go? She would've probably gone to the kitchen, gotten a butcher's knife, and started stabbing away!! As it worked out, the third card ended up only needing to be rung for $1.77, but its owner was going to include the (wholly undeserved) tip on that one. Well, when BW saw the way we split it, she started yelling again, "don't you EVER make me run a card for a $1.77!! Just don't!!" "Your tip is going on that one," my still-nice-despite-it-all friend explained to the dragon lady. "Not that you deserve one," another friend muttered under his breath. "WHAT DID YOU SAY???" Oh wow. It was getting out of hand. It got worse when his sister said what he-- being a guy-- couldn't: "You're being a real bitch." Even after all was said and done, wrapped and paid, we STILL tipped this shrew of a waitress over 20%. Why? Because we take the high road. Hope she got fired that day.

I didn't make it up to the Mish, here's why. I followed their advice and tried to take the shuttle due to their $40 parking fee. So I went to the website and saw when and where the shuttles were leaving. Since it was the day of the show I couldn't reserve a seat but they said you could show up for an available seat. Long story short, the shuttle never showed up and I missed the show. There's a bunch of problems with the way the Mish is running their shuttle. They need to be more professional about that if they are going to overcharge so much for parking.

Holy Poudre! The Mish Rocks! Where is Poudre Canyon? Just above Ft. Collins in the hills west of town sits a gem of a venue. This outdoor amphitheater is nestled in the canyon and seats just over 900 people. Just magical! I had seats in the yard (gravel covered) so close that I could almost touch Amy and Emily .... the Indigo Girls, ya know. The lodge has a few little service bars, a little restaurant with big glass windows for viewing the now raging waters (super high for July). Did I say magical? The venue is rough, parking situation ridiculous, but great for the gypsy spirited soul. The feeling of being so present with nature and the musicians is priceless and totally compensates for it! Check out their website: mishawakaconcerts.com . Peace & Love, Lisa

This place has concerts! Intense! It's like an old-fashioned lodge. All made of wood. Plus, there's an outdoor seating area which is actually on top of part of the Poudre River. Although the river looks brown, it's apparently very clean. And I loved watching kayakers pass by (though we only saw two). If or when we ever come back I'd love to try to kayak or raft down that river! Man, I love water. I had the Mexicali grilled cheese sandwich. Kind of amazing. The cheese was gooey and just the right amount and there were onions and peppers and all kind of veggies in my grilled cheese (which sounds suspicious, but it actually genius! Why hadn't I thought of that before?). p.s. Oh, and the Buffalo Burgers. Two thumbs up. The only thing that was sad is that the onion rings - why deliciously fried - were a pitiful portion and the pickles were sliced way too thin. Like they had taken a regular-sized pickle and sliced it in two to conserve the number of pickles in the place. Oh glorious pickles! How I wish I had eaten a whole one!

We drove up a winding mountain road next to the hypnotic white noise emerging from the river, with the smell of conifers permeating our lungs from canyon walls that seemed to be covered in a thick shag carpet of trees towering above us. We were driving to one of the most beloved spaces in Northern Colorado - the Mishawaka Amphitheater. Cheerfully referred to as "The Mish", this small space on the side of Poudre Canyon Highway in Bellvue is one of the best, if not thee best live concert venue in Northern Colorado. It all started back in 1916 when Walter S. Thompson built the dance hall by hand next to the bubbling white caps of the Poudre River. Things have changed over the many years, some good and some bad. The most recent evolution for The Mish was in December of 2010 when Dani Grant and her husband Matt Hoeven, owners of Chipper's Lanes and directors of local music non-profit, SpokesBUZZ, took over to breath in new life and set the establishment on the straight and narrow. Upon hearing that news in 2010, I was relieved that this venue would continue to entertain and feed bikers, hikers, and music lovers alike for years to come. One of the most memorable concerts of my life was at The Mish, and I've been to thousands of them all over the west coast. Absolutely nothing compares to the magical mountain moments that fill your head with the sounds of a thumping bass and a roaring river. But, Mishawaka isn't only a concert venue, it's also a year-round bar and restaurant. So, this particular visit for us wasn't about the music, it was about the food. We sat out on the deck right next to the river, kicking our feet up while gazing at the eagles soaring above us in the sky and keeping an eye out for wildlife on the mountain slope on the other side of the river. I was really hoping to spot a bear, because there had been quite a few visits from them throughout the year. But, no such luck. Mishawaka Amphitheater has one of the most incredible atmospheres to enjoy, especially for a dining experience. Hands down, they have the best patio deck for miles and miles. Our dinner didn't add anything special to the moment as we took in the fresh mountain air and marveled at the changing autumn leaves in Poudre Canyon. The Mish is on the right track with changes for the music venue, but they still have a lot of work to do on the food.

A great little mountain music venue. I went on a Friday to see Trampled By Turtles. We thought we'd easily find camping if we got there around noon. We were wrong. Most of the campgrounds around the venue can be reserved and fill up quick, so I would recommend reserving a few weeks in advance if you want to camp anywhere nearby. We ended up camping about 15 miles up the winding canyon road in an open space area and hitchhiking. The bar/restaurant that adjoins the venue is cool. They have standard bar fare and a great half price happy hour until 6. Our server was really nice. I tried rocky mountain oysters for the first and last time. The outdoor deck area is fantastic. It's right along the river and you can even see the stage from there. The stage area is adjacent to the restaurant and it's small, but they pack in a lot of people and the sound is excellent. It's truly a great place to see a show. One more note... Parking is kind of a nightmare. You should definitely take a shuttle or carpool if you're going to see a show. I think they were charging $25 to park at the venue. Cheers!

I first heard of the Mishawaka in the mid 90's. My grandmother was commenting that college kids were going up the Poudre Canyon to raves. She made it sound like people were going up there and practicing satanic rites and getting high on drugs. She was only half right. These raves happened around and probably in the 'Mish' as it is affectionately called. Little did she know that I wanted to go up there and go to a rave and bathe myself in the glow of various colors of glow sticks, neon and black lights all the while grooving to the thrum of Breakbeats. Breakbeats= think Chemical Brothers, this sound was popular back then. She may have had an inkling of my interest to go to one because she kept saying negative comments about it. My interest was only slight because I knew no one that had those kinds of connections about when a rave was going to happen. Usually I was a good boy, studying hard and being a cineophile. cineophile= someone that watches lots and lots of movies, it is not as dirty as it sounds. The ones that went on in the Poudre were of the unorthodox kind so you never really could plan it out based on your local newspaper advertisements. The rave scene really leveled off in about 2001 maybe 2002 along the Front Range after some big time partiers that went to raves were found either dead or were wandering around town naked in a stupor. The cops put the kabosh on most of them, but the rave scene still survived in the area, barely. Years later I went to the Mishawaka to go see the Reverend Horton Heat ( Did I mention I like all kinds of music?). Probably the farthest thing in the rock music spectrum from music you would hear at a rave. I must say the little yard in the back of the restaurant, what they called an amphitheater was nothing short of awesome. It was in the summer so it was great to just sit out in the back of the restaurant and listen to the bands and The Reverend himself. I always say that the Gothic Theater and The Bluebird Theater in Denver were great intimate settings but they don't have anything compared to the 'Mish'. If you know though that a popular band is coming to play here you best get up there early because the place fills up very fast. As time went on I kind of fell out of the loop as to what was going on up at the 'Mish' and what acts they got to play up there. Today I found out that back in October the 'Mish' was closed and up for sale because the owner was caught by the police to have grown and cultivated marijuana and in possession of ecstasy. So currently the place is closed and many people in the local music scene are concerned about who may buy it and how it may be run once someone does buy it. I hope someone competent does buy it and keeps the good eats and cool beats that the 'Mish' is known for to keep going. P.S. I still have never been to a rave, still don't have the connections to go to the unorthodox kind. I guess I will have to go to the clean and planned ones that they have at Red Rocks and various other amphitheaters in Denver. Sigh.

Went to see some music here lastnight and had a wonderful experience. It is in a beautiful canyon on the Poudre River. We took a shuttle bus from Ft. Collins(which I highly recommend doing if you have anything to drink) We arrived early enough so there were no lines and we had time for a bite to eat. We shared some chicken wings and they were good. The bartenders were very friendly and poured a good drink. While outside watching the show there was attentive and friendly wait staff to bring us drinks. The sound was great, lighting great, and not a bad seat/stand to be had. The only reason I gave 4 stars rather than 5 is because when the place became crowded they closed off the restrooms.... You then had to use the porta potties. :( this is due to their septic system not being able to handle the crowd, which we were told. The porta potties were clean and even smelled good! They also have 3 sinks to wash up. :) I will deffinetely be back and would recommend to all my friends.

I am reviewing the food as we stopped here for lunch today and was a little disappointed. Sure they have a nice place with a great view but...I ordered a pulled pork BBQ sandwich and it was the worst I have ever eaten. It comes out with a tiny little BBQ cup as a side and they put cole slaw inside the sandwich?? The sandwich was huge and that was the only plus I can give of the whole experience. In less than five minutes it was a soggy mess from the steamed meat they put inside the bun. If I was them I would get rid of this off the menu completely or take the time to properly make it. The BBQ sauce tasted like it was right out of a bottle from Sysco. Left very disappointed and probably won't return again. Beware, prices are pretty hefty also on almost every item on the menu.

There are two aspects that can be reviewed here (based on other reviews, that is): the concert experience and the bar/grill experience. I've never been to a show here so I am only reviewing the later. Here's the thing, if you're like me you had no phone/web service to be able to Yelp this place while in its vicinity. No AT&T service; no Yelp. That's always a concern for me and this experience reinforces why that is. I am just hoping someone reading this review is checking it out before dropping by for a quick lunch here. We arrived at 11:30AM on a Saturday. It is a HUGE mistake to arrive at this time. Why? Well, isn't it obvious to you? They do what all great food serving establishments do. What's that? You still don't know the problem? Well, I'll tell you but you will kick yourself when you hear it: they close the kitchen down for a half hour (more like 40+ minutes based on my experience) to "turnover" the kitchen to lunch. You say you've never heard of that before? Well, neither had I. We weren't pleased with that but still willing to enjoy ourselves. After all, the views on the patio/river deck are very nice and it was a nice day. We ordered drinks - an iced tea which came promptly and a bloody mary that didn't come and didn't come. This started to get annoying, as you might be able to imagine, b/c there was no food or anything to be had. We were stuck waiting for the miraculous kitchen "turnover to lunch" to be completed much as you might expect to wait for a Monet to be completed before gazing upon the beautiful canvas. After 25+ minutes (yeah, I admit I reached the "timing" phase of the encounter pretty quickly here) I got the waitresses attention and she informed me the kitchen was closed. Ummm.....OK, do they make the drinks? No, but they are out of mix and the kitchen makes the mix. OK...what is she going to do about this? Nothing she can do (unless she is the owner - there is some evidence that she may be to come later). 5 minutes later I had my bloody mary. In all fairness, it was very good. Great flavor. We were told (a few times) that the order would go in at noon and the food should be out a few minutes after that. Close estimate - more like 25 minutes after noon. We ordered a hamburger and a buffalo burger done medium rare. Both came out well done. Buffalo well done is akin to eating leather. Not good. The hamburger was fine (except for being well done). After the 5 minutes it took eat sub par food our waitress was no where to be found for another 10 minutes. When I finally got her attention I informed her we were ready to go and would need the bill. After 10 minutes of back and forth serving other tables (mostly getting all the stuff she forget to get the first 12 trips to the table) she walks by, looks at us, and you can see the wheels turning...she asks "is there anything else I can get you?" The check, my dear, would be great. "Oh yeah! Very sorry." 5 minutes later we have the check. Thank God we had cash to leave on the table and left. To be fair, the waitress was nice. She's no rocket scientist but she seemed to try. Can't blame her for an establishment run as if it were 1578 or something. Her apparent inability to think on her feet was likely compounded by having a full patio of tables (there were 3 other servers; possibly 4) all with their orders put in "right at noon." Whomever runs the bar/restaurant aspect of this place has no clue what they are doing. Could she be running it? I would not be shocked if she were. So, a memo to the owners: hire someone that has a clue about running a bar/restaurant and modernize the operations. I hear 1812 was a good year for restaurant operations innovation. Maybe consider an update to that time period at least.
