FINALLY! I'm Cuban-American and have been hoping for the better part of a decade that a place like Cuba Bakery would open here in the Denver-metro area. This place is as authentic as it comes--a true Cuban bakery with a ton of great lunch options, too. I'm from a part of Miami that has more Cubans than any city in the world except Havana and I grew up drinking cafe con leche and munching on pan cubano. Simply by spying the bakery cases as I walked in I could tell this was going to be the real deal. They produce all of the classic varieties of pastelitos and execute them all perfectly. My favorites are the pastelitos de queso (cream cheese) and carne (beef with a touch of chorizo). Other must-try items--particularly for the uninitiated--are the papa rellenas (a ball of mashed potatoes with a delicious beef center that is breaded and flash-fried for a crispy exterior) and the croquetas, which admittedly aren't a 10/10 but are still darn good. I spoke to the owner here and it turns out he is a fellow Miami transplant (from Cuba originally) and operated three bakeries in South Florida. That expertise definitely comes through in the food quality. Even the coffee is Cafe Bustelo, which any self-respective Habanero will tell you is the only choice. If you're looking for more of a lunchtime fix, the completa (like a Cuban combo meal) I had was excellent. The moros are flavored with delicious chunks of pork, the tostones are thick and crunchy, and the bistec de palomilla I tried was flavorful and tender. The prices are a little more than I'd expect, but then again they are flying in a pallet of supplies from Miami every week to keep things legit so I suppose you have to factor that in. I can't wait to come back and will definitely be making the 25 minute drive from my house more frequently than my waistline would like.

This is my first time trying authentic Cuban food and it was delicious! Try the beef empanadas!

If your in the mood for a Denver style Cuban meal go for it. If you're looking for authentic Cuban food please don't waste your time. You will be disappointed. Latinos don't use jasmine rice for their arroz! Lechon is very dry and the mojo sauce is lacking. I would like to introduce them to Adobo. On the bright side the pastry case looks delicious.

Bakery has a huge selection. Open at 8 for breakfast. Two eggs, ham or bacon with Cuban toast with cafe con leche 4.99!

Amazing! Great customer service and more importantly wonderfully delicious food, I had the pork with yellow rice and plantains and it was all to die for, their pastries look great too!

Yes, very authentic Cuban. Excellent food and everyone behind the counter and in the customer area were speaking spanish.....cuban spanish.

My brother really liked this place so I had to try it. The service was great and the food seemed authentic. The guava pastry is a best seller and it is a one of a kind treat around town. I'll be back for more.

THIS... is the place to go in the area for real authentic Cuban food, pastries, baked goods, sandwiches! My family is from South Florida and Miami and I've been waiting a long time for a place like this to make its presence known. The sandwiches are delicious, pastries mouth watering, side dishes and entrees so savory and delicious... you'll also be amazed at both the portions and prices. The people are good folks and you'll be remiss to not pay it a visit. Nothing fancy, very clean, well lighted and like I said... authentic. Enjoy!

As a cuban from Miami, FL , I tend to need my cuban food fix quite often living in Colorado. Was surpised to know this awesome place opened up by my house just 5 minutes away! Definitely recommend them for their authentic dishes and pastries. Family owned business that also came from MIAMI! My new favorite spot. Try the lechon asado with moros and platanito maduro! best combo and pastries try tres leches and guava and cheese pastelito( pastry) you wont be dissapointed.

Fantastic place. My boyfriend and I just moved to Aurora from L.A., where we would go to Porto's. This bakery is just as delicious as Porto's, and we are so happy to have found it!

  • Edwardo C.

I moved from Miami to the West coast, and after years of being deprived of good old Cuban pastries & cafecito, I have found a little Miami in old Aurora. To my surprise, because all "Cuban" food spots on the West coast lack the Cuban, Cuba Bakery hit the spot, from the traditional pastries to the Cortadito, it was Miami all over again. Definitely will come back and stock up on some Cuban cuisine.

Yum! Just stopped by here today wondering if they had any plain bread rolls. Well, they didn't. But if you need some place to stop for lunch, go no further. I had two pasty type meat pies. Boy were they good. I had the chicken and the beef. The beef was a picadillo-style rather than shredded and the chicken was shredded. The seasonings were wonderful. I also had a cuban espresso. That was very tasty. Apparently, a cuban espresso is a highly sweetened black espresso style coffee. I enjoyed mine. The cases in this small store-front were filled with all sorts of wonderful dessert pastries as well as the meat pastries. Also, there was a hot table with a variety of hot foods as well. I look forward to going back and trying more of their offerings.

Being Cuban and growing up with the great food mi abuela would make in Miami, I longed for a taste of the old country. Cuban Sandwiches, Guava pastries, croquetas and dessert pastries. I have lived in Denver since 1983 and there have been many attempts to make great Cuban food, with minimal success. Some people claim to make great Cuban food, but let's be honest, when you've had the best (Miami eateries or my grandmother's cooking), it's hard to accept sub par food. The food, is phenomenal, and fresh.I enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were great. They all spoke Spanish and English so even if you're not of Spanish origin you still feel welcomed. I can't get over how fresh the food is and how much flavor is in the food. Colorado finally has a place with great Cuban food. The only flaw with the place, is it is very pricey. I spent $40.00 on croquetas and guava pastries. It is still worth the money. I say go and check it out. It is tucked away in a little shopping center. It used to be a Blockbuster Video accross the way from the King Soopers. Salud, de Amor, y dinero y mucho tiempo

I don't have to go to florida anymore for the cafe con leche and the pastelito de guava! Is around the corner and is good!!! Esta riquisimo !!!

  • Sakay S.

I am in absolute awe over this place. Not only is the food wonderful, but the prices are INSANELY cheap. I can't believe the amount of food I was given. And the service was fantastic. Two smiling young ladies greet their customers in an efficient, professional and exceptionally friendly manner. I will definitely be back!!!

  • Michael B.

Was not impressed with the Cuban sandwich or any of the rice dishes. Bland, burned, and stale for the most part. Then, when we wanted to order some empanadas, it was old home hour-- the chefs came out from the back to visit with relatives, and everyone ignored the paying customers for over a half an hour. I wouldn't go there again for that reason. I'll stick with Cuba Cuba downtown. There's a reason it's always SRO there.

  • Trang R.

Seriously? We've been waiting for a bakery like this since we left Miami. Have been going here every week, I'm an addict! It's so good, I even endured a lunch outing with the ex-husband, just so I can get some lechon with tostones and rice. Their arroz con leche, pastellittos de guava, and flan are worth the trip!

  • Lendi B.

Delicious, low key place. The ladies working were helpful and pleasant. Fyi, if you call and it says the number is disconnected, rest assured they're still in business.

  • Knowlegable R.

The pastries were amazing. The lunch food was just good. I am from Florida so I'm familiar with good Cuban food. I think that it's worth the drive for the guava turnovers but not just for lunch. Prices are good. It's also pretty unique in this area so an extra star just for that! !

  • Elizabeth C.

I only sampled the chicken empanadas - they were very good. Well seasoned chicken with roasted green peppers and the dough was flaky with a crispy edge. Only complaint was that there were two small pieces of bone. Great prices though.

  • Simeon F.

Phenomenal is all I can say. I drive an hour to eat at this place. The hot food bar is awesome to say the least and the portions are generous. I also highly recommend the empanadas in any flavor. They are light, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. While I know it is not really a Cuban thing I wish they had mofongo but the fried green plantains more then make up for it.

  • Kim G.

This is the best Cuban food I've had in Denver! The staff is always so friendly and helpful and will explain each dish they have available that day! I usually go with the Cuban Sandwich and fried plantains! The sandwich is crispy and warm, with just the right amount of sour from the mustard and pickles! It's plenty big enough for 2 to split, or like me have for lunch the next day! You are missing out if you have not been here yet! HUGE selection of cuban pastries and desserts too!

  • Linda H.

Love this place!! Reminds me of a Cuban Bakery I used to go to in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Cuban breads are wonderful, the flan and the other bakery items are too die for, the big Cuban cookies and so buttery and good!! The food is so good, right down to the Cuban Sandwich! I would recommend this place to anyone who knows how good Cuban Food is. Big plates of food for a very small price.. Like I said before, I Love This Place!!

Thank you Cuba Bakery and Cafe for existing--I can't imagine my life ever being the same after coming here. I was randomly browsing through Yelp restaurants (because it's what I do when I'm bored...pretty pathetic, I know) and I stumbled upon pictures of the beautiful pastries. After drooling over all the photos, I just had to pay a visit. The moment you walk in, it smells AMAZING. Even better, all the pastries are on display, and you can't help but want to buy one of each pastry/dessert (yes, there are tantalizing cakes and treats on display too!). As it was lunch time, we decided to order a plate of lechon asado, a havana sandwich, and a chorizo empanada. It was heaven in every bite. Seriously. The lechon asado was suuuper tender and packed with flavor, the sandwich was absolute perfection, and the chorizo empanada was crazy good. I start drooling when I think back to that meal. There is no doubt I'll be back here soon to get me some more delicious Cuban food!

  • Maida P.

I ordered the cheesecake, tres Leche cup, and 2 empanadas (chicken and chorizo) I'm sad to say I was highly disappointed. The cheesecake was disgusting, it tasted like plastic. The chorizo empanada tasted like old grease. We had to wash our mouths out it was so nasty. To top it off we paid 1300 dollars for everything. It's a total rip off, don't even bother going.

We came here for breakfast, which I think colors my review a bit. We wanted to try a new place and my boyfriend picked this one out after reading all of the reviews. I was a little taken aback when we walked in. There were 4 breakfast options on the menu, coupled with lots of various pastries in a case. Not exactly what I was lead to believe. I got the eggs and bacon meal with cafe con leche and buttered bread. He got a few empanadas (the real reason we came, I deduced!) The place is relatively small, so we ordered and then tried to not be in the way, which felt pretty impossible. It was busy on a Sunday morning. His food was ready right away, mine took a bit longer. We got it to go, so we paid and headed out. I'll be honest in saying that I was pretty disappointed in mine. The two tiny eggs and two small bacon strips didn't really do it for me. The fried eggs were runny; the bacon was cold. To be fair, I did like the cafe con leche, and the price was very good. I feel like I should have gotten something from the case, but many things weren't labeled and they were so busy that I really didn't feel like it was appropriate to have someone walk me through what everything was. I tried a couple of the empanadas and they were very good. I was happy to try somewhere new, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to come back. It does seem like I ordered the wrong thing, so next time I'd try something different.

I Love this place! I'm doing my best not to be over there everyday. I haven't had good Cuban food in years but I am ecstatic that I found this place & close to my current residence. They have so much to try. The keep tons of fresh desserts, empanadas, and a hot food section. Let's not forget the infamous Cuban sandwiches. It's a small place with very limited sitting but that is part of the appeal for me as well. The staff is also very helpful. With places like this, I just cannot get away from Fat.

I have only eaten Cuban food at one restaurant in all my life ( versaillescuban.com ). I've eaten there many times so this is the only place I can compare Cuba Bakery & Cafe. For the price and the portion sizes Cuba Bakery is awesome...but those desserts taste old and cheap. My family and I didn't eat any of the desserts I bought so I won't ever buy the sweets from here again which upsets me cuz they look SOOOOOO GOOOOOD! The staff was very nice and the food tasty but nothing to the caliber of the Cuban restaurant that I frequented in California. However, in Cuba Bakery's defense, Versailles Cuban Restaurant is more costly and a step above a Mom & Pop. Cuba Bakery does good for what they offer. A lot of food for a little price! I will be back...just not for any of those delicious (LOOKING) desserts.

Very good Cuban Sandwiches and pastries. And of course cafe con leche. You can also buy the bread that they use to make the sandwiches.

I am a huge fan of Cubano sandwiches so when I found this place just a couple blocks away, I said to myself, "Jonathan, you've arrived... at a Cuban place." As a bakery, they make their own bread, and the pressed Cuban bread is delicious with a flakey crust. The pork is pretty basic, not all BBQ drenched or overly sweet. The one thing I have learned to specify is asking for extra veggies (lettuce, tomato, ect.) as the sandwiches can be a bit dry otherwise. The French fries are too thinly cut. The kind of thin that would probably go good on a salad. I have yet to really explore the baked goods menu, but I had one of their chocolate chip cookies with chunks of Reeces peanut butter cups. I knew it was going to be rich but damn my mouth was at overload. I recommend stopping in just to see the variety, sweets to meats, they are sure to have something you'll like.

I hope you go in hungry. It's a sandwich shop, its a bakery, its a restaurant. Its...obscure, but delicious. I had the plate (meal). The yellow rice was done well, and the flavors were truly different ftom what I expected, but the food was gorgeous. The chicken was cooked perfectly, but the kicker was the portion size. I took home half of my meal, and the leftovers were great. I tried the gigantic sandwich from the plate of my dining companion. The bread was more pastry than bread, and the meat was also fantastic. I would recommend the cuban sandwich to anyone who loves the sandwich. Did I mention the portion size, half of the sandwich was packed away for later. The staff does not speak English very well, which I count as a nod to the authenticity of the dishes.

Great sandwich shop, which is also a bakery. Authentically Cuban. I had the Cubano and it was amazing. The bread makes all the difference. Crusty on the outside, moist and soft on the inside. My wife had the Havana and gave me a taste. It also wowed me. I had a cortadito, which was legit, as was my wife's café con leche. It's a little sweet for my tooth but it tasted great so I just chased it with water.

  • Thu L.

This place is delicious. The sandwiches are huge! Their empanadas are amazing, even when reheated :) Whenever I go I get a sandwich and then get several empanadas to-go. I haven't had their desserts but I hear they taste amazing.

This place is great and one of kind out here in the mid west reminds me of good old New York Spanish bakery's love the cafe and the bread is amazing staff is wonderful and welcoming I will be coming here daily truly a hidden jem!

  • Peter M.

Found this place yelping the area for coffee and after seeing a review about the owner actually flying in special flour from Miami to make a proper cuban pastry I had to try it. The result? The cafe con leche was absolutely delicious, and there are tons of pastries and other food that look like a must try. The cinnamon & sugar 'elephant ear' went great with the coffee. This place is clearly run by great people, as everyone was really friendly and made me feel like I walked into a family kitchen. Plus, they even hooked it up with one of their "cuatro leches" cups simply because I helped open a door for one of the ladies bringing in a delivery! I was happy with that, but when I tried the cuatro leches... OH LAWWWWD!!!

EAT HERE. EAT HERE. EAT HERE. Some of the most flavorful food I've eaten in my life. We stepped off the plane and stopped here as our first meal. Considered eating there more than once on our three-day trip because it was phenomenal. Low on atmosphere, high on WOW factor. Tried both the yellow rice and rice with beans. Phenomenal. Chicken in tomato sauce was great. Oxtail was a little too chewy but phenomenal flavors. Sweet plantains here are out of this world with a perfectly crisp caramelization outside. Food is all prepared and on a hot line so you can order and start stuffing your face immediately. Cuban sandwiches are also made to order, but man... ain't nobody even got time for that after checking out the hot food line. (The person at the table behind me was saying she grew up in Miami, and this tasted like home... gotta be good right?!) Massive dessert case. You start with the lofty ambition of getting dessert, but by the time you finish eating your meal (WHY CAN'T I STOP) your eyes will be rolling in the back of your head and body in need of a nap. They take credit cards and have about 6 tables inside. I'm begging you to eat here. It's amazing!

After living in Florida for over 20 years, moving here to Colorado I had to leave some things behind, the one thing I missed the most was Cuban food, and thankfully I found an amazing family run Cuban bakery and café right down the road! Their sandwiches are amazing, closest I have had here in Denver to South Florida! Highly Recommended!!!!

Everything looked delicious, and the girl that worked there was awesome. I wanted to try everything. I got the cuban sandwich with steak, and it was good, not great. Next time I'll hook up a couple empenadas or one of the plate lunches that looked amazing. This is a cuban foodie paradise.

First and foremost, Take NOTE : Cuba Bakery & Cafe change their contact number to : (303) 752 2822 Opening hours are from : Monday - Saturday : 7am till 8pm Sunday, they are open from 9am to 3pm. From the Paper Menu, that they had, the Bulk of their Sales perhaps are from Catering Events or Big Purchases such as Parties what nots. Party Specials are from $39.95 to $149.95 which can feed from 25 to 100 guests, respectively. Included in the Paper Menu were items such as Pastries Or Desserts which starts from $1.25 each, Breakfast Items ($4.99), Sandwiches ($6.95-$7.95), and Daily Dishes ($7.95). There are like about 10 seats with tables inside in case you might want to have your Meals here at one go. Recent visit was on Saturday January 18th 2014. Time was about 16:50hrs ish. Actually we wanted to have an Early Dinner there, but since they were quite swamped with the "Early" Dinner crowd, I decide to have some Savory Pies to go. From the Savory case, we opt to have the following items : 2 Chicken Empanadas, 2 Beef Empanadas and 4 Beef Pastries which cost about $18 ish with tax My bad, forgetting to ask the lovely staff at which Fahrenheit and for how long to re-bake the Savory Empanadas. When we get the chance to eat our purchase, All in all its was ok. We prefer the BEEF Empanadas the best, though we cannot deny the filling could be more, since the Empanadas looks big, but it was more Dough than the Filling. But with the reasonable cost, we can understand why. The spices and the flavoring in the Ground Beef Empanadas was just right for our liking. Both Empanadas, comes with Red and Green Bell Peppers. We decide to cut them into halves and having it that way, so we can at least taste whether there would be any differences in each Empanadas what nots. Yes the Empanadas Dough was crispy and crunchy. LEAST favorite Empanadas was the Chicken Empanadas. It was NOT as flavorful as we were hoping for. Perhaps due to the seasoning which was a little too bland for our taste bud. As for the Beef Pastries, unfortunately, perhaps I bake it at a higher temperature that resulted in "burnt" Phyllo Crust. From that bite, I can understand why, coz they might have "washed" the top of the Phyllo Dough with Diluted Sugar water coz the Phyllo Dough tasted a bit on a sweet side. In the Beef Pastries, it was also Ground Beef, just without the Bell Peppers. It tasted slightly similar with the Beef Empanadas, but NOT the quite the same. Still intrigue with all these Savory Empanadas/Pastries. Nevertheless, we wish them well in their Business Undertakings, and hope they can prosper well in this Neighborhood and many more years to come so everyone can enjoy what they have to offer especially the lack of Quality Cuban Cuisine, in Colorado Soil. May return when craving some Cuban Desserts that might call my name especially the Sweet ones since I saw ALOT of those while we were there... OR convince Hubs to return and perhaps enjoy on what they offer in terms of Sandwiches and Daily Specials food that might peak Hubs interest such as Pan Con Bistec or Ropa Vieja (Shredded Beef) or Carne Guizada (Beef Stew)... Hmmm..... Cuba Bakery & Café 15028 E. Mississppi Ave, Aurora, CO 80012 Tel : (303)-752-2822 @15/2014

The cubanos are really good. I would recommend extra mustard. Amazing flavor, crispy bread, and huge for $8. Two could share one cubano. This is mostly all I've had, except their coffee, which is also very good. Was recommended to me by a cuban, no less.

  • Eric N.

I am Cuban and have lived in Miami most of my life, so I thought finding good Cuban bread would be impossible I Denver. I have tried in the past and people recreate Cuban bread to taste almost like French bread. This place does it right. It's pretty much an exact match to the bread back home. The location is in a strip mall. It is very casual. Literally if you have ever been to a Cuban bakery on calle ocho - big glass round refrigerated displays, salsa playing, smell of Cuban coffee - that's what this place is like. The coffee is good but that isn't too difficult. I have had some picadillo and ropa vieja here too and they were decent. Love it hope it lasts

  • Doug Y.

They don't allow people over the age of 15 years old in here. Or people that are Asian, Black, Latino, Caucasian, Middle Eastern, Native Indigenous peoples, or anyone under the age of 15 years old either. They especially don't allow people that like great Cuban food and will blab about it to others! Bastardos!

  • Philip C.

Great, affordable little joint. Had the Cubano ($7, as are all the sandwiches) and a potato ball ($2.50). The sandwich was great. The potato ball was better. If you're from LA, this place has potato balls that rival the famous potato balls at Porto's (yelp top 100 restaurant). Highly recommend it. It's a shame the potato balls don't get more love. Maybe if I keep typing potato balls in this review it'll show up in the highlights section. Potato balls. Potato balls. Potato balls.

Excellent food. Had the Havana sandwich, which was big enough to share with my husband, but still pretty light. Also tried a ham and chorizo empanada - delicious! And a giant peanut butter cookie with pieces of peanut butter cups in it. Omg. Great prices, too. Will be back to try the other sandwiches and for the lunch buffet, which looks amazing.

My husband and I gave this place a try and we're very surprised at the choices of food and pastries. The portion size of both provide lots of leftovers to enjoy later. Oh and did I mention the oxtails. Yum! Had a hard time choosing pastries to take home. I'm stuffed and will return. Great for a relaxing weekend meal. Oh yes, and the staff are very friendly and patient in explaining the food experience.

First time reviewing but I just couldn't help myself after eating here. As a Cuban displaced from his family and home for a decade now this place is a godsend. The pastry case is outstanding. I ordered my childhood favorite quesitos (cheese pastries) and was blown away by the quality. I'd venture to say that these rank in the top 5% of what I've tasted while living in Florida, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. You absolutely have to try them. And this isn't just the bias of being homesick, my Colorado native wife gave them a try and was speechless. The rest of the pastry case looks incredibly attractive and I can't wait to visit again to try something new. While there I also indulged in a Cuban sandwich and it brought me back to my childhood in an instant. The bread was crisp and full of flavor on its own (I'll have to buy a loaf of their bread next time I visit) and they did not skimp on the ham and pork that filled the already huge sandwich. No shortcuts are taken - the bread, meats, cheese, and mustard all matched up perfectly with the flavors of my childhood. If you miss your panaderias fellow Cubans and Puertoricans, you absolutely need to head on over right now.

The bakery is one of the best. Delicious buttery - almost candied croissant- with sweet cheese filling. I can't get enough! The folks are always friendly as they hand out these sweet treats!

Had the ground beef empanada. It had good flavor and the crust had a good crisp. And for $2+change, good value for the price. Also enjoyed some desserts; all were good.

I am from Miami and miss this Cuban food soo much! This place really reminded me of home and has great food!!!! The only down side would be the cold pastries..I almost feel like it taste like the freezer?? other than that I love the warm pastries, empanadas, sandwiches, and platters!!!! I can't wait to go back!!

This is a find. Judging by the crowd at lunch today, it has already been found by a good many. We shared a beef empanada and found it delicious. We made the mistake of each ordering a cuban sandwich. It was a mistake because the sandwiches are huge, plenty enough for 2 to share. We couldn't resist buying a cheese bread, which is fresh, sweet, unique. What's not to like? 15-20 minute wait for the sandwiches, tight confines for such a popular spot. Lots of customers took takeout.

Tried a few things here. Beef empanada and two types of croquettes, all VERY yummy! The Pan con lechon was pretty good but the pork was a little dry. Also, bought a few pastries to try at home. Additionally, there is an assortment of buffet items (like ribs, ropa vieja, beans, lechon, plantains etc...) to make your plate lunch. Will definitely have to comeback here to try other exciting items! Update: Came back here and got a plate lunch with plantains and a Tres Leches... all very yummy!

This place makes well crafted yet surprisingly lite Cubano Sandwiches. They're amazing. Pastries are rich, from peanut butter cup cookies to beef and spinach empanadas. The atmosphere is pleasant and they usually have Latin pop music playing. They have breakfast and Cuban espresso. Prices are great for what you get, especially with the lunch buffet. Lechón in a lite Mojo sauce. Nuff said. Get the media noche. It's great.

This cafe used to be open for breakfast and lunch hours, now they're open until 8pm, so I finally had an opportunity to try it out. The cafe is not fancy but it's got a cute interior, dominated by several bakery display shelves showcasing freshly baked breads, pastries, and cakes. I was greeted immediately, and if the teenage girls behind the counter weren't particularly friendly, they did their job well. I ordered the Media Noche sandwich, which is a sweet bread with ham, pork, pickles, cheese and mustard. Prices are very reasonable. All sandwiches are $8 or less. I bought a sandwich, a can of soda, a bottle of water, and two items from the bakery (a coconut pastry and a chicken ball to bring home for my partner). My total was only $13! The Media Noche was good, but the bread was a bit dry. The pork has a nice marinated quality like it had been in a slow cooker all day and it balanced well with the saltiness of the ham and pickles. It was also a very big portion - I think half would fill most people up. It came topped with what might mistaken for fries, but was actually closer to a potato version of those onion strings you put on top of your green bean casserole. The pastry I took home for later and reheated. I was like a heavy croissant filled with coconut paste and brushed with a sweet glaze. The mix of sweet and savory came out very nice, though the bread was a bit crunchier than I would have liked (that may have been my fault for not eating it within the first few days and zapping it). I can't comment on the chicken ball as it has yet to be eaten. I spent some time perusing the big menu on their wall while eating, and it looks like Cuba Bakery offers some really incredible deals on catering - their deals come out to about $.50 per piece for a mix of bakery items and sandwiches and you get a sheet cake on top of that! So I'll come back and try the regular Cuban sandwich, see if I like their non-sweet bread any better. If it's good, there's a decent chance we'll be catering our anniversary party with Cuba Bakery this year!

Had the shredded beef empanada, chicken empanada, chicken stuffed potato ball, and mudoras. All delicious, reasonably priced and fast. The pastries looked amazing and will try those next time.

Amazing, amazing baked goods! It feels so good to come to a restaurant that knows how to prepare a REAL CUBAN SANDWICH...not some Americanized bull crap that doesn't even have the right ingredients. And they are not stingy on their servings, my Cuban sandwich was huge and amazing. This little boutique joint is exactly what this area needs. Great tasting food, good environment, and good peeps.

Ordered guava pastry, slice of red velvet cake, and a cookie. The guava pastry disintegrated before I was able to eat it indicating it had been sitting around for quite a while. When I asked about the age of the red velvet cake in the cafe, I was as assured it had been baked earlier that week, but the smell upon opening the package when arriving home was one of horrendous freezer burn and the taste was a of a similar disgusting nature. The cookie was the only saving grace, lending itself to a quality similar to that of the Kings Soopers bakery right across the street. I would recommend staying away from this cafe and their old pastries.

Wow, this place is amazing! Driving past Chambers and Mississippi multiple times I had spotted this joint, however having bad experiences at other cuban restaurant in Denver I hesitated. Well, the wait was over! I was not too hungry so I thought "Nothing to lose!" I am so glad I visited this place! As soon as you walk in you are welcomed with display cases filled with eye grabbing pastries, but wait..,there's more? They have tostones! And food that looks amazingly delicious. And it was! The food was great, the rice was a little different but still good nonetheless. The plantains were perfectly sweet, the chicken had good taste AND it was only 8.95, they give big portions so be ready to share if you need to! Of course I had to try the pastries, my favorite was the one with coconut filling. Too bad they close early or else I'd be on my way RIGHT NOW.

I can't believe this place has been open for 4 months and I just now went today. This place is a home run! My new favorite restaurant in Aurora! I had a Medianoche sandwich and it was awesome! Very authentic. I met the proprietor. He and his family recently moved from Florida. You cannot buy the kind of bread (or flour) that it takes to make authentic Cuban sandwiches here in Colorado so the owner has the flour sent from South Florida and makes the bread fresh in-house. The bread was PERFECT. They have a very nice selection of sandwiches, pastries and a hot food line with ropa vieja etc. They also have Cafe Bustelo Cuban Coffees. Nice! If I could imagine the kind of Cuban cafe/bakery I'd like to visit or even own, this would be it! I hope they make it big and expand to more locations around the Denver metro. Do NOT miss this place!

I love this place. The Cuban sandwiches are the best I have had outside of Miami. Piccadillo and empanadas are very good. Pastries are delicious. The dining area is small though.

I cannot express how amazing the food is! I had a plate with rice, sweet plantains and this amazing chicken and potatoes. All of the bread and pastries are handmade and taste like heaven. I had a cafe con leche which is probably the best cup of coffee I had in a while. Will continue to return here over and over again.

So it was pointed out that this is a bakery not a restaurant, and how dare I right a review with one star.... Ok this bakery has a handful of tables and chairs for adults .......BUT NO HIGH CHAIRS...... The staff was rude when we asked.. And had they not been rude we may have stayed. Obviously all the reviews for this place are fake.... Other wise the owners would not have jumped my s** t for my real review.... Avoid this place like the plague! 1. Their rude 2. They hate children 3. The food looked terrible 4. The menu limited 5. The tables were dirty 6. The floor was sticky 7. The front door was filthy 8. Parking was limited I hope this clarifies my first review.

I told my wife if I ever run away from home that this is where she will find me. We've eaten a little of everything here from their sandwiches, to their hot food, and pastries. The pricing seems fair to lower then it could be, the portions are huge, and the flavor and quality are tremendous. Haven't had one of the party platters yet, but that'll happen next time we have a need.

This place is great! My friend has been looking for a good Cuban bakery since they are from Florida where there are many. I was excited to have Latino baked goods! On the inside there isn't much special about it. It looks like a typical bakery. They serve a variety of sweet and savory pastries and other desserts and meals. During this visit I got the coconut n creme pastry, guava and cheese pastry, and a beef empañada. The coconut and creme was alright, not too sweet. Was a little disappointed that it didn't have much coconut flavor to it. The guava and cheese pastry was delicious! It's a definite must have next time I go and makes me want to try the guava and cheese bread. The beef empañada was filled with meet and a few veggies with and pleasantly spiced. The meat was also quite moist and not dried out. The lady at the counter was very sweet. She helped me pick the ones that didn't have any nuts in them, which is surprisingly quite a lot of them. Usually bakers are quite liberal with their nut use. So I was happy about that. Next time I want to try one of their entrees that looked delicious.

It's no secret, every opportunity I get I probably sneer and jeer about dining in Aurora. Every now and then however, there's a hidden gem that absolutely blows me away. As a matter of fact, you can bet that as soon as I finish completing this review I'm probably going to make my way to Cuba Bakery & Café. Apparently they've only opened up shop for approximately five months or so. Not even an official sign posted up out front. Just a flimsy banner. Upon entering this place doesn't really look like much, if anything at that. On top you have your menu with a variety of sandwiches they offer. Display case full of pastries. Variety of decadent sweets and savory morsels. Potato balls! I've been scouring the state looking for these ever since trying them at Porto's Bakery back in California. Though they aren't as good as Porto's, they're still pretty good...Who wouldn't like a deep ball of mashed potato, crispy and breaded on the outside and once you bit in you get the soft creamy mashed potato and in the center is some ground beef. Only complaint is that the beef isn't seasoned enough. Heck, they should take the seasoning they stuff in their beef empanadas and cram it into the potato balls. Problem solved! The Cubano sandwich was probably one of the better ones I've had in recent memory. The portion is huge too! The pork is just tender and juicy and I believe it's what sets it off. Cuban espresso was pretty darn good. Potent and lethal...Just a shot of it gave me such a jolt of energy. It wasn't really bitter surprisingly considering how concentrated it is. And for $1.50 a cup, that sure as hell beats getting a tall black coffee at Starbucks for $2.88. This place is good! My friends and I often found ourselves constantly getting up from our table and ordering more items I'm sure we were annoying the heck out of the ladies who were taking our orders.

Four stars for their pastries. I have not had a chance to try their sandwiches yet. Customer service could be better, but the delicious desserts are sweet enough I guess ;)

Incredible Cuban sandwiches! Wouldn't recommend the desserts -- we tried them, but they had an overwhelming chemical / bleach taste. We'll be back, but we won't be tempted by the desserts again!

We visited this restaurant for the 1st time today. It was recommended by a friend. It took a few minutes to be acknowledged, the woman that did come greet us took our order, and was on her game. We ate in, and received our Cuban sandwich and a shredded pork sandwich. My husband enjoyed his Cuban, and I took a bite of it and liked it. My shredded pork sandwich was a good flavor, but it was missing something. It was just shredded pork, onions and seasoning. I just think there could of been more too it. The bread the sandwiches are served on is really good. It also came with shoestring potato chips. They were tasty. We decided to try the desserts, they recommended these treats that were like eclairs. One was powdered sugar topped with cream filling, the other had a caramel topping and cream filling. The caramel one didn't taste like caramel, and it tasted stale. The powdered sugar one was much better. Probably won't return, but sometimes I do second chances in case it was a bad day.

Such a sweet little Cuban bakery/cafe. Delicious food with generous portions [enough for two people if you a couple pastries too]. The pork is juicy and seasoned perfectly. The salty plantains are crispy but not too dry. The yuca is soft and flavorful as well as the chicken potato balls Just enough guava/cheese mixture in the pastries for me to want more. Delicious coconut pastry and definitely not boring. I HIGHLY recommend this establishment and I'm rather sure I found my new local addiction. Thank goodness the staff is friendly and patient...

This place was fantastic! The food portions were enough for two and the service was great! It was cooked to order. The only complaint I have is they need a bigger place. Too many people trying to get in and eat and it only seats about 20. I guess that's a good problem to have!

Oh Cuba Bakery & Café you have captured my heart week after week! My daughter and I love this tiny café so much. Every time we go in we are greeted by the nicest ladies and there are a couple that know us and make sure to come and say hello and ask us what we would like. It's a tiny restaurant that gets packed. Most people take their food as takeout. There are only a small handful of chairs to sit down. The food is phenomenal and it hurts to have to make a decision. I always want to say I'll take one of everything! I love the variation of empanadas. Every time I take a bite I close my eyes and feel so thankful to be there again! My senses try to understand all of the lovely flavors meshed together! The sandwiches and main dishes are wonderful. I will never tire of this lovely little café with Cuban music playing in the background. If they ever close we will cry. So lets keep supporting these wonderful business owners that make this amazing Cuban food for us!

We love this place! My husband and I have been eating here for a while and can honestly say everything they have is delicious. The food is consistently great as well as the service. We just got half a dozen pasteries, sweet and savory, a Havana sandwich, and a chicken and rice plate all for about $55. Considering the portions are huge I say that's a steal. Awesome place!

Love, love, love this place!!! My new addiction!! The best authentic Cuban food in Colorado. Watch out Cuba Cuba the Cuban bakery is taking over. The combo plates are HUGE and a great value. My favorite are the ribs, black beans, rice, & yucca!!

  • Lori L.

Great food at a great price. Hubby had the Cuban sandwich and it was huge! I had a ropa viejo empanada & the chicken potato ball & they were both great. My daughter had a baked cinnamon thing and all of us shared it. Beware the Cuban coffee is strong! We are only in town for a few days but may be back :)

Great pan Cubano! So happy to find this place for the pan Cubano alone. Carne con papas was fantastic, papa rellena was okay. The sandwich Cubano is good, very good, crispy and gigantic, just a little overstuffed. The yuca con mojo was disappointing; bland and served without onions :( The toddler in the group ordered red velvet cake and it was terrible (stale and crusty). Granted, not a good idea to order red velvet cake at a Cuban bakery, but it should at least be fresh. Will def go back, though. The pan con guava, arroz con pollo and the tamales are calling my name and I've gotta try them all ASAP.

These little pockets of meat are not very appealing to foodies who are after a chic looking meal. I say this because the photos on the reviews actually had be uninterested in trying this place for a few months. Ground beef and dough? What's the big deal? THEY ARE FANTASTIC!!! My husband and I have gone here about a dozen times now and are continuously pleased with the quality of the empanadas. We have not ventured out into the other Cuban dishes, but we know where we will try Cuban for the first time. We have tried the chicken empanadas, very tender, seasoned perfectly. We have also tried the shredded beef, a tad on the salty side... Which for me is great, but my husband found them to be too salty to enjoy. Which is the only reason this place is not getting 5 stars. The consistency of the food is there, but I agree that the shredded beef continue to get more salty every time we go. The ground beef empanadas , you know the ground beef and dough, are my favorite. There are green olives in it which add a little bright flavor to the meat pocket. I've also had the puff pastry with beef, a little salty sweet, I thoroughly enjoyed them... My husband did not. We had a few misses, completely personally preference. These were unfamiliar flavor combinations so we did not know how to appreciate them. The spinach empanadas, yucca stuffed with ground beef were not great. The yucca was really greasy and flavorless really. All and all I love this place. Every once and a while I'll come home after a long day of work and my husband has a few of these heating up in the oven... My house is consumed with their wonderful aroma.

Fantastic! Great food. Great service. We had the Havana, a spinach pie and a ham n chorizo empanada. The Havana was great. Excellent bread, perfectly dressed and well pressed. The empanada changed my life. The meat and spinach pies were also tasty. We finished up with chocolate cake, cannoli and creme brûlée. The cannoli was decent, but the brûlée and cake were out of this fucking world. I had a pineapple soda. I haven't had any of the hot dishes yet. We just wanted to try a bunch of the bakery stuff. Can't wait to try the hot foods! They look and smell fantastic.

What a great find. My colleagues enjoyed their generous sandwiches, but the savory pastries caught my eye. Had a great lunch of the spinach empanada, a ham-and-cheese pastry mini-sandwich, and a ground beef-stuffed yuca. A sweet guava cheese pastry finished it all off. Very impressed! Next time I'm in Aurora, I'll look for this again.

Satisfies my cuban cravings both for lunch hot entrees and pastries/desserts. Have not tried the sandwiches yet but I heard good things about them. Tostones, rice and beans, lechon asado, smoke pork chops and chicken are all good. Their tiramisu is a little different but really good and the cuban coffee is the perfect way to capped it off. BTW this is a hole in the wall with only 6 tables or so and all plastic/styrofoam plates and utensils...

In strip mall on the southwest corner of Mississippi and Chambers, the Cuba Bakery and Cafe is a standout in an area of town where you may, perhaps, least expect it. This review is for the food only - though the bakery portion of the cafe looked like it had some absolutely delightful items in it. I had the Havana Special sandwich for lunch and it was nothing short of stellar. It had a huge portion size with great flavors, and was served relatively quickly. The bread was really good, too. My companion similarly raved about the sandwich he got, as well. I also tried a cheese stick as an appetizer to the sandwich, and that was pretty tasty, to say the least. There appeared to be a variety of Cuban dishes that were daily specials - had I not been so hungry and needed a "sure thing," I would have ventured to try some of the daily specials - and saved room for one of the baked goods that looked terrific. There are only a few tables in the restaurant, but with most of the patrons eating sandwiches they turned over quickly. This restaurant is clearly a gem - great food and a friendly staff.

I love this place! They have a truly delicious array of pastries and I haven't been disappointed with anything that I've had there. I lived in FL for awhile and Cuban food grew on me while I was down there. Since then, I've lived in the deep south, pacific NW, and here, and haven't found a place that takes me back to the cafes in Miami. This place does it. My whole family has enjoyed the different things that they've tried here, but the empanadas are our favorite. I'm so glad they opened up shop right around the corner!

Looking for authentic food Cuban food in Denver Metro? look no further than this little gem in a non descript shopping center. The food is absolutely fabulous and real. Not a high end place, low key, and cafeteria style.

When my wife first heard about this authentic Cuban bakery, we made it a point to make the journey across town all the way to Aurora to come here. She's from Miami and knows her Cuban cuisine. The employees were extremely nice and friendly to us gringos. I was surprised at how busy this place gets on a typical weekday afternoon. The food was excellent and the prices were surprisingly CHEAP! $2.50 for an empanada! They even had my favorite Cuban imported Iron Beer which made my giddy with excitement! I love their beef empanadas that were packed full of fresh picadillo with a side of yuca stuffed with beef. The temperature was only luke-warm but my wife assured me that is the way Cuban food is typically served in Miami so I can't really complain. The Cafe Con Leche was also excellent brewed with Cafe Bustello which we sipped while sharing a guava pastelito we had for desert that was a bit too dry and flakey and not filled with enough guava for my personal preference though. Again, my wife assured me that was how they were probably traditionally made although we both seem to prefer the fresher, doughy guava pastries that are oozing with hot sweet guava like we would get at Publix supermarkets in South Florida or at Frijoles Cuban Cuisine here in Colorado. Next time we find ourselves on that side of town we will be sure to stop back. Knowing my wife though, we'll be making it a point to drive back there just so she can get her authentic Cuban food and I'm not going to have any objections.

Not really a big fan of Latin cuisine and not of a pastry water, but tried the Cuban Espresso and...BAM!! It'll knock your socks off like crack would. And oh so yummy too!!! The service was super friendly too! I had no idea such a great place existed in the quaint area near the ghetto King Soopers!

My boyfriend and I moved here a week ago from Fort Lauderdale, FL and were lamenting that we would most likely not find great Cuban coffee here, but fortunately we moved two miles away from this fabulous establishment! We stumbled upon it by accident while grocery shopping and what a relief! The staff were very friendly, and the food made to order. I had their breakfast special with cafe con leche for $4.99! My boyfriend ordered the Croqueta Preparada, which was not as hot as he would have liked, but was delicious nonetheless. They offer a vast array of baked goods, which was impossible to turn down despite being full from breakfast. We took home a guava and cheese pastry as well as 2 other chocolate and caramel covered things that were out of this world! It was like we were back in South Florida despite the snow outside!

Very helpful with selections even when they were busy with the lines getting longer as she took her time with me and the food was good be careful they have some amazing looking and tasting desserts. I ate the cubano sandwich which was only $6.95 and very filling.

I have tried their sandwiches and pastries and they are fantastic! Their guava & cheese pastries are so flaky and crispy. They make fresh and if you go their at the right timing, they are fresh out of the oven and warm. They were still crispy the next day. Their sandwiches are decent. I totally recommend this place.

Excellent!!! I had the daily dish special, steak, rice and tostones. A Cuban espresso to finish my meal. Everything was delicious. Pleasant staff and clean. I recommend this place. My friend ordered the sandwich for lunch and it was equally delicious. All of the items in the bakery case looked delicious but I didn't save room because the portions are huge.

I am from Miami and have been eating real Cuban pastries my whole life. This place is legit! I haven't tried the other food yet but the pastries are on point! The owners used to have a bakery in Miami. The coffee is delicious! And it is the cheapest place to buy a loaf of Cuban bread. Most places here charge $4. You can get a loaf there for $2! This place is a must try!!

Wow. There are very few place outside of Ybor City this good. Cafe con leche is really good. Also papa rellenas. Yeah! Fantastic prices and amazing bread! Thank you little shop in Denver for making me feel like I'm back in Florida.

We split a Cuban sandwich, a ropa vieja empanada, pastry n coffee. Everything tasted wonderful, will definitely be back to try the food from their hot bar where they have rice, beans, lechon, roasted chicken, tostones, etc. I'd go back just for the cafe bustelo n pastry. They also have papa rellenos!

Absolutely fabulous! The service was great and the food was incredible. I'm still amazed at the generous portions for such a great deal. The bakery was impressive too. I will definitely be back and would recommend this hole-in-the-wall place. A true diamond in the rough.

I was a little disappointed. I was excited to eat some authentic Cuban food. I may have ordered the wrong items, but the beef empanadas were stale and dry. The pastries and cakes tasted freezer-burned.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Amazing home cooked food. It's like going to grandma's house. Pernil, fresh empanada dough, an ever changing menu, plates loaded up. I couldn't ask for anything better.

  • Samantha N.

I ended up at the Cuba Bakery and Cafe after a Yelp search to fill a coffee and sweets craving. I ordered a cafe con leche and picked out a few sweets to split with the spouse. The sweets were tasty enough, but the server added so much sugar to the cafe con leche that I couldn't choke it down. I didn't ask for sweetener, and there may be a tradition of adding sugar to the drink in Cuba, for all my knowledge, but, man, it was gross. Be forewarned. Otherwise, decent.

I have been praying for a place like this for the past 28 years!!!! Their food is amazing, their pastries are to die for, and the service cannot get any better!!!! All they need now is just a rehab center! Lol If you haven't gone you're definitely missing out!!!

this place is a joke. The first time we went we were amazed at how delicious the pastries were so we decided to take the far drive and pick up some more and that turned out to be a HUGE mistake. we purchased about 30 dollars worth of pastires and were told they were fresh baked the same day. we got home and found nasty soggy pastries that tasted of freezer burn. they were wet and had a cardboard taste. it was so disappointing we threw the while box in the trash. i will not be going back. stupid and dishonest employees.

Really good food whether your getting a sandwich, shredded chicken and rice, or a pastry! Flavored Goya sodas to wash it all down and decent cheap prices. The atmosphere is cool. Seating is limited to maybe 30 people so come before the crowd!
