Mexican food is surprisingly scarce in Aspen, and this is clearly the best.. Margaritas are standard mix from a bottle but the salsa is yummy and there are a few veg*n options that are quite good. We eat here at least once every time we visit.

Mexican casa snuggled below street level. Ample seating. Complimentary chips and salsa were good. Chips and salsa were fresh. We came during happy hour. Wife got house margarita for half off. Food came quick and hot. We are from El Paso and this Mexican food is a lot fresher than El Paso. Full bar and music too. Not crowded on a Sunday evening. Would recommend to a family.

Food was not really that good. Being from San Antonio and a regular visitor to Mexico it is not Mexican food for sure... That said the waitress we had was amazing. Her personality made it a great experience for all the cops in my group.

Delicious al fresco dining with a fresh Latin twist. Word of warning this isn't your typical Mexican restaurant with rice and beans side to every dish. This is another level of flavor and presentation. At a recent lunch with friends, our party enjoyed: Fish tacos and a spicy beef taco - small but filling with two tortillas per gave so you can turn two tacos into four for a thrifty meal. Chicken fajitas - served with homemade pico de gallo and ample guacamole. Chicken taco salad Ceviche Market salad - with a cilantro lime vinaigrette. Our server was helpful and friendly. And we enjoyed sampling the basket of extra sauces she brought to the table. Everything was fresh and tasty. We left with smiles. Chips and salsa aren't complimentary but you can order as an appetizer. We didn't and didn't miss the calories.

Best thing here is the salmon tostada. Also really like the fish tacos. There are different types I usually just get one of each. Prices are very reasonable. i went to lunch there two days in a row.

I loved the rellenos frescos, the gravy was spicy and flavorful, will definitely visit this place again. Fairly priced and centrally located in aspen. Also the staff is very friendly and pretty quick in getting your order.

This is a place for Kitchen Nightmares to save. The staff started out nice but then got involved in personal conversations and delayed us getting our food. When our food did come it was so soggy that the tortillas were disintegrating. I didn't enjoy the flavors at all and should have listened to the locals who told me that there is no good Mexican food in Aspen. The salsa was ok and the bathrooms were clean.

This place has some decent Mexican. I wouldn't say it's the most authentic Mexican food (you'll probably have to go down valley for that) but it's pretty good for Aspen. And it's pretty affordable for Aspen. My group of 8 all were happy with what they ordered. And yes, I'd come back. The service was good too.

Tex-Mex & pricey Cute place with nice service. Nothing is spicy here...they just bring you chili oil which is not good to spice up your food. The salsa was ok but not great same w/the queso. I got the seafood platter w/shrimp ceviche tostada which was pretty good, the shrimp enchilada which was good, & the fish taco which was ok. The menu is way overpriced but I guess what isn't in Aspen. The Fajitas were ok but most things don't come w/sides. The flan was good though to end off things. I would try somewhere else before going back.

Wonderful little outdoor patio section with excellent food that isn't too expensive. The guacamole and salsa is a huge serving. The summer salad was delicious and refreshing. The tacos looked good (I didn't eat any) and the selection of special salsas was really tasty. There is a happy hour that I would definitely like to go back and try. A great stop for vegetarians and gluten-free patrons.

Excellent authentic well prepared food and the house Margarita was delicious! Will definitely return!

Not a bad place at all to get lunch or dinner. I came here on a summer afternoon and sat outside in their charming below-ground patio, where a friendly but overwhelmed waiter tended to every table outside. We waited a pretty long time for him to show up, and for him to return to take our orders, but he redeemed himself by quickly bringing out our food fresh and hot just minutes after we ordered it. I split a chicken chimichanga which tasted pretty great, without reaching that critical overload of cheese that always compromises the structural integrity of the chimichanga. The shell was still crispy, while the inside was gooey and flavorful. They put just the right amount of cheese, though I wish they were more bold with the spices they put on it. To compensate, I covered the chimichanga in salsa left over from the chips and salsa they brought out beforehand. The salsa did that job perfectly. It is seriously some of the best salsa I have ever had. This is due to the fact that there's this very sweet kick of chili pepper. Somehow, they've harnessed the chili such that you can really taste it without burning your tongue until it shrivels like a salted slug. It's such a shame they charge you for a second basket of chips, because I inhaled the first one. My food was served alongside a rather bland Spanish rice that only functioned as a variation in the texture of the food, as well as a out-of-place but delicious salad topped with a sweet vinaigrette and a bleu cheese crumble. The addition of chopped jicama and carrots was very interesting, and I really enjoyed getting to try jicama for the first time. It brought a lot of uniqueness to the plate. At $15, the chimichanga probably wasn't worth the cost. I expected that at this cost, I'd be getting a lot more food than I did, and ultimately regretted splitting my dish. So, Su Casa is a little expensive for Mexican food. But what isn't overpriced in Aspen?

The new bar menu is really good for smaller portions. The margaritas are wonderful also. Never had a problem with the friendly employees. Had the mini burritos and tacos. I'd say its the best Mexican food in Aspen.

FOOD IS NOT GOOD! SERVICE IS NOT GOOD! Go to Cantina!!! It's over priced and the fajitas don't come with any sides!!!!

Good mexican food and salsas.... they bring you a table setting of 6 different types of salsa that you can use with your food and chips, etc. i liked the habanero oil the best. Super hot and delicious. I also recommend the crunchy chicken flautas - they are large pieces huge chicken chunks in it. They remind me of a place in hollywood, florida that made amazing chicken taquitos.

This is my worst experience. The service was laughable. The waitress had 4 tables and was no where to be found. A woman (not our server) came and greeted us asked if we wanted something to drink, when I asked about what was on draft, she said "ask your server"... I thought she was out server. She offered us salsa and chips, we said yes. The chips were stale and no salt or anything else on the table other than hot sauce. Later a smiling waitress came by and took our order. She seemed very perplexed by burritos and quesodillas. (literally items right off the menu). Our server than brought us our beverages, I ordered a corona w/ lime, the like wasn't cut and was just a giant hunk of lime. I tried using the cuttlery the knives were nothing more than for show. Didn't break the soft end of the lime. Again, waitress disappears. It took almost an hour for our food which came out incorrect. She didn't understand the difference between burritos and quesadillas - I shit you not. She again looked confused when she asked us what we had ordered. Later, my food came out last and it was very wrong. She dropped it off and left without asking if it was correct. She came back 10 minutes later and asked if everything was okay, I explained to her the mistake, and she took it away. She asked if I wanted something else. I told her "no", I didn't really want to wait for an hour. No one received a refill despite the sodas being $3 a pop. They added 2 burritos on the bill that we didn't order. The server told us we were wrong. They overcharged. Their prices are crazy. I don't mind dropping money on food but this is downright robbery, theft and dishonest business. The manager came over and asked what was going on, we explained. They removed my item, which I didn't eat and still didn't remove the burritos. When we pressed the issue a second time, the total was still wrong. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!

Food was extremely bland and just plain bad. The service was mediocre at best. It was busy when we got in, and we were told the wait would be 20 minutes. There were a few open tables, so I assumed people were already waiting for those. The waiter then pressured us to sit in the bar area by saying that the wait might be much longer. About 10 minutes after we sat down the dining area was half empty.

My fiance and I visited Su Casa for the second time over Labor Day weekend and had a pretty rough experience. After being pitched on the Happy Hour specials, I ordered a margarita while deciding what to get for lunch. The table next to us made it clear that they had been waiting forever for their food and then sent their check back 3-4 times before it was finally correct and all Happy Hour deals had been honored. I figured maybe the waitress was new or was having a tough time with them and gave her the benefit of the doubt - I used to wait tables in college and know how tough it can be. Unfortunately, our food took painstakingly long and was incorrect when it arrived (no chicken when I had asked for it on my dish), but rather than wait for it to be corrected (we were starving!), I simply asked for it to be taken off of the bill. Sure enough, when our bill finally came, everything was full price (the happy hour margarita, 1/2 order of chips + salsa was changed as a full order, and the extra charge for chicken that I never received was still there). Had I not overheard the commotion at the table next to us with the Happy Hour specials not being honored, I just would have thought this was an honest mistake. Being that it happened to two tables in a row where none of the happy hour deals were marked as such on the bill, it made me question whether or not their staff is trained to charge full price and only adjust if the customer notices/requests an adjustment. In all, the food was ok, but the experience left a bad taste in our mouths and we likely won't be back. With so many great options in Aspen, we'll pick another spot next time.

The service was excellent and the food was delicious! My husband I both ordered the street tacos a la carte. My tacos al pastor were absolutely delicious and the bite I had of my husband's beef fajita taco was excellent as well. For Aspen, the prices were very reasonable, even with having to pay for the chips and salsa. We will definitely go back when we are in Aspen again!

I crave this Mexican spot. I ordered vegetarian fajitas and loved every bite. Actually went too nights in a row lol. The ambiance is above average for a typical Mexican joint. Staff was friendly and very on top of things. Noticed manager was very observant. Our server was a complete doll, so sweet and attentive!

I wasn't a huge fan of anything I tried there. Salsas were lacking flavor!!! My entire chip had to be covered to taste any of them. The only thing worth mentioning was habanero oil. It had a lot of flavor and kick. Wouldn't go back if I visited.

Good Mexican fusion food..not authentic but it was a good fusion! Server was friendly and ready to serve 13 ppl! On a downside margarita was like a lemonade, may b because of happy hrs menu! Good dishes for vegiterian too

This place gets four stars simply for being an affordable place to eat in Aspen. In any other town, it would probably get 3 stars. The service was super friendly and the food was decent but not superb and the menu was short. Chips and salsa are not complimentary. They have a nice outdoor patio that is downstairs from main street so it isn't quite as busy and crowded.

This was good find in Aspen, Colorado. We stumbled on this place by chance. My fiance ordered the Ceviche Tostada and Chili Relleno, and I ordered the Chicken Fajitas. My fiance was really pleased with the taste of her food and how is was presented. The food was not just plopped on the plate. It was artfully presented. As for my Chicken Fajitas, they were also pretty good. My only gripe is that they did not come with rice and beans. Therefore, I was not completely full after our meal. Where customer service is concerned, it was great. Our servers were really attentive and personable. We would definitely return here again when we are in Aspen.

Stopped by here for lunch with my family. I loved how our server immediately showed up with crayons, coloring pages, and kid cups of water as soon as we sat down. From the art work on the wall and the modern decor, I never would have guessed that this place was family friendly. I only wished that my 6 year old would have eaten their appetizing child's meal. My husband and I ordered the salmon and the shrimp tacos and they were pretty tasty. However it was really the friendly and helpful customer service that would bring me back.

The place is cute, great atmosphere...outdoor and indoor seating, located in a great spot in the heart of Aspen. Food was good, but wouldn't go out of my way to say it was great. I really enjoyed the skirt steak tacos as well as the shrimp enchilada and Alaskan Halibut grilled fish tacos. Drinks were ok... service wasn't bad... but also wasn't great. (However, I'm in the industry so maybe I'm a little critical)

Incredible salsa, yet oddly tasted a bit like marinara sauce. The rest of the meal was average.

The food is alright. The tacos are pretty good... they have a lot of varieties and they're tasty. As always, a bit pricey for mexican, but it won't break the bank. The margaritas are so-so, but the price you can't beat. It's a great place for parties of 10+.

We found this place both on the map and on Yelp. Quiet night but we had a great time. Tom the bartender is super-energetic and a lot of fun, and he probably earned the fourth star on this review. I must disagree with Steve T.'s review below - Tom mixed our margs fresh, with fresh lime juice, and they were very good! Food was pretty good, big portions and filling. No, it's not Tex-Mex from El Paso or a little cantina in L.A., but it was spicy and flavorful and good. You won't be disappointed.

This place was recommended to us by the rental guys from Black Tie. They said it was best Mexican in town and it did not disappoint. The menu is creative and has some options that aren't typical at a standard Mexican restaurant. Overall, the food is flavorful and delicious. Salsa is amazing, not bland like at most restaurants. The margaritas are standard, but good and NOT watered down at all. The services is pleasant and more than willing to offer up suggestions. Its a great little find!

The staff here was just lovely on an even lovelier Aspen day. With a baby in a stroller, they were super accommodating to the allowing us to choose the table of our liking on their charming patio. Plus - there's an elevator in case the stairs down to their restaurant don't suffice. And just as fast we sat down, our food was served. Fast service matched with friendliness is always a plus in my book. The Yucatan and Mango fish tacos were delish and bursting with flavor and even served with a substantial variation of sauces to accompany the robust flavors. Based on my friend's not-so-happy choice to order the fajita salad, I figure the tacos (you order a la carte) are your best bet at this Mexican eatery. It's certainly not a Tex-Mex place with melted cheese or green chile smothered on everything, yet more of a fresh, Baja style menu that hits the spot on a sunny, patio-perfect day!

This is pretty nice but humble place to have a meal (out of the way location, average decor and menu) but as i said, not too bad. My vegan tacos had a slightly burnt taste taste- that was the main flavor i got. So i wasnt too excited about that. But the guac, chips, and salsa appetizer was very good. I especially liked the green hot sauce they provided on the table. Prices are ok too, considering how expensive Aspen is. Our service was good too and the server very nice. I think it was worth the try but i don't think i would return here again.

So delicious! I tried three different tacos and they were all sublime! We also ordered the guacamole (made fresh daily - so good) and a mild queso. The queso was different, lots of green chilies, which took a little warming up to, but in the end I decided I really liked it. The fresh lime margarita was superb; lightly sweet, very fresh and the right amount of alcohol. The service was very friendly and attentive. Such a great experience. also, they have a nice kids menu.

This was a great find. I had the Mexican bowl which was nice and friendly for a vegetarian. The prices are also very reasonable for Aspen. Give it a try!

This is my worst review. By far one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. The service was terrible. Our server hardly acknowledged us and the food was awful. They also messed up our meals My salad was hardly anything you would recognize as a salad. The beets, carrots, and jicama were really dry and waxy in texture. The dressing was awful as well. My husband's dish (playa plate) was worse than your typical chain restaurant. His shrimp taco tasted like it had watered down ketchup based sauce in it. Had our service been better I might have given them an additional star, but that's about it.

After a long day of whitewater rafting, nothing warms the belly like some fresh Mexican food. Located downstairs next to the Wild Fig, Su Casa offers a comfortable mix of recognizable Mexican cuisine and introduces enjoyable savory flavors that make the already enjoyable days in Aspen even more relaxing. Recommendations include the ceviche, a quesadilla, the bean and cheese dip, and any quesadilla. A minor issue I encountered was with my drink order. I ordered the Verde Margarita which was not spicy at all and lacked jalapeño flavor all together. But the server quickly remedied any problems and brought out a spicy michelada to substitute.

  • Irene P.

It wasn't great but it wasn't the worst either. The ladies here were very friendly, but all but one of them were kind of oblivious to our needs. The food was just ok - it tasted alright and it certainly filled us up. Overall the meal would be ok, some really tasty stuff in it but the rest was kind of bland. The little homemade salsa cart was neat, 5 different kinds of salsa to try - I like the Verde the best. Not particularly spicy but great flavor. The horchata was really good too.

The way to do Su Casa is to take advantage of their TaQueria & TeQuila Bar menu. They have about fifteen tacos between $2-$4 to fit every flavor variety. The chips and salsa, like many have noted, is not complementary as many have noted and honestly wasn't anything special (cold chips and house salsa was average). However, when you order your meal they do bring a basket of about six different hot sauces that are fun to play with. I definitely wanted to test out their tacos and our waitress recommended the al pastor as a customer favorite and I also chose the yucatan shrimp taco. They were served quickly and were beautifully arranged with a spicy salsa on the side. I thought the shrimp out shone the al pastor with a delicious cabbage slaw and a ridiculously good sauce but both were delicious. Our waitress was to the point, she gave us suggestions when asked but wasn't overly friendly. I also ordered the chili margarita which was recommended and really enjoyed it. It had a chili flavor without being overly hot (I love spicy) and definitely felt like it was an $11 value because it was singing of strong tequila, I only wish it had had more citrus flavor. I also tried my sisters burrito but wouldn't recommend it, compared to the tacos the flavors were not all there and it wasn't cooked enough for the cheese to melt. I would venture back to Su Casa for a late night snack, an evening of appetizer hopping, or a light dinner off of their taco/cocktail menu. Two tacos and a margarita left me feeling satisfied and pleasantly surprised!

Looking for an affordable meal in Aspen? Come here. At first, the $15 for 2 tacos menu price made us doubtful, and another reviewer mentioned chips and salsa aren't free. Don't stress: the first (big!) basket of chips and salsa is complementary, and after having a combo that included a small taco, I think that $15 price tag for 2 larger ones may very well be worth it. The flavors are good and fresh, and the portions are large. We will definitely be back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
