This is a nice a little place. Has a hot tub outside close to the rooms. Serves a continental breakfast with eggs and bacon. The main issue I had was that I kept running out of hot water. I was basically the only one showering here too. I'd get in the shower and I'd have warm water for 5 min then it would go really cool. So I'd stop and wait 10-15 and get back in and I'd have hot water for like maybe 5 min before it would get cold again. I don't know what the deal was with the place. Also the key to the door lock was really hard to get open. It always took a few minuts to get the door unlocked. Otherwise the rooms were clean.

I was really happy that I chose to stay here. It's right by the slopes, the breakfast actually has real food and not just the standard bread and better, and the people are super nice and friendly. I had no real complaints, the rooms are a little older but honestly, you're in Aspen you should be out and about doing stuff anyways. The rooms are clean and has all the essentials as needed.

So many problems I'm just going to list them: My deadbolt got jammed and I was locked in room Cable didn't work the entire week Blood on my sheets Blow dryer only worked on low setting Wifi barely worked or wasn't on at all Burnt out light bulbs in bathroom Ac didn't work Shower head started falling apart while in it. Literally, the screws were falling around me! Phone didn't work to call front desk, had to find number and call from cell phone. Tried to over charge me for my dog, would have if I hadn't asked for an invoice. They are getting a 6 week remodel, I don't know that is enough time to make is a livable space. The front desk employees were very nice.

Stayed one night and found the accommodations delightfully clean and well appointed with nice thick towels, helpful staff and comfortable beds. Much better then expected from a value accommodations. We enjoyed the hot tub in the evening. Great location, a quick walk to many restaurants, bars and the grocery store. The breakfast was great with some hot items to choose from in addition to the usual American free hotel breakfast fair. Great value for the money. Not sure what the issue is with Air Conditioning with the previous reviews. I go to the mountains to avoid air-conditioning ... the cool evenings are wonderful.

Friday, the 27th of June my wife and I stayed at the Mountain House Lodge in Aspen, CO. We booked online through Hotels Tonight. We had camped and hiked for the previous three days and were very excited about treating ourselves to a nice night in the hotel on our last night in town. Oh but if we only knew... The front desk guy was friendly enough, chatty and helpful. Gave us our key and directed us to our room. Off to a promising start. However, we were a little miffed that when we opened the door to our room, on the very top floor in the corner, that it was the size of a shoe box. Also, straight out of the eighties, but decor really isn't the issue here. I can almost understand the size, we did book this on Hotels Tonight, and perhaps all the other rooms were full. Whatever. The real issue here, was the HEAT. I understand that it's Colorado and many places do not have AC, however this room was windowless as well as without a ceiling fan. And it is in fact the end of June and quite warm. A windowless hot closet of a hotel room? Hmm. We tried to brush it off, it wasn't a big deal, it would cool down at night. NOPE. We came back from dinner and the room was still a little oven. Literally, you opened the door to warmth. The stairway next to us had an open window so we propped our door open to get some air, which helped slightly, but might have been a little awkward if another guest headed up the stairs. And not so safe for sleeping. Also just really ridiculous. So we finally shut the door and tried to sleep. Not happening. I went downstairs to ask what could be done. I was told there ought to be a fan in our closet. I came back up, and nope. Not one there. Went back down and brings up one of those stand up fans from the 90's. Awesome. It's making a slight difference, but really it's just blowing around hot air and making a lot of noise. After a while of trying to sleep but failing, I went down to see if maybe we can switch to another room. But I guess the front desk guy is gone for the night. For fun, we took the thermometer out of the fridge to see what temperature of the room was. EIGHTY DEGREES. We're from Texas, so we're used to the heat, but that's pretty hot. Especially when you are paying for comfort. And the funny thing was, no one came up those stairs, all night. I'm pretty sure we were the only people staying up there which meant that there were quite a few other vacant rooms available, possibly with windows (hopefully not every room was as bad as ours). Is that how Hotels Tonight and Mountain House Lodge work? They give you the most terrible room available? I get that we're getting a deal and won't be getting a suite or anything, but come on. We paid $240 to sweat in a shoe box. TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS. For an attic and no sleep. It made our tent look like a palace. This hotel was rated "basic" by Hotels Tonight, but this was ridiculous. Especially when there were other rooms available. Honestly, it's just kind of mean. I consider a comfortable room temperature a "basic" requirement. $240 was a gross over charge for this situation. We will NOT be using Hotels Tonight and will NOT be staying at the Mountain House Lodge again. For the love of sleep, please do not do this to another guest, and if you do at least charge them a great deal less. You're embarrassing yourselves. I then called the management to address the issues that occurred that night. The gentleman was very nice, but not very helpful. He admitted that that room is the "worst ventilated room in the hotel" and "it is first hit by the sun and gets the most sun throughout the day." He also informed me that his hands are tied because that is the room used for hotelstonight (a deal app) and it is usually their last room to give out (only if they are completely booked do they give it to none deal seeking customers, but if you use the app, you get the room even if there are open rooms. Kind of a crap deal if you ask me, and mean.) They will be installing an AC unit this winter, so maybe you'll luck out, but I wouldn't risk going back there this summer my traveling friends. Especially since you'll be paying close to $300 to sleep in a hot shoe box. He did offer me a free upgrade to suite level for the rate of a non-suite if we ever come back. I don't know if I can go back though, the memory of that sweaty night still haunts me to this day.

As the previous reviewer said, the front desk is very nice. They are all quite eager to help and make sure your stay is great. Any time we asked about hiking or restaurants they had several suggestions and whipped out maps to help us find the places with ease. The property is older but in a decent location. There's no a/c and we were concerned since everyone in CO has had record high temps but the position of our room in the building shaded us from most of the heat and it was comfortable. There was a box fan that we ran at night and it felt nice. We had a little deck off our room with 2 chairs and I think most of the rooms have this. They provide a free breakfast each morning that includes cereal, waffles, yogurt, fruit, and various bread options. It was simple but a nice touch. There is a hottub but it closes at 9 PM and it's located in the back in between rooms so I'm sure they could hear everything going on- not great for them. I'd definitely request a room elsewhere in the building! There is free wi-fi but the signal is a bit weak in the room. We were on the far end of the building so perhaps it's better if your room is closer to the front. All in all we had a nice stay but it could definitely benefit from a face lift and some updates. It's probably a good budget choice if you are price-conscious but still want to stay in town.

Front desk was super nice. Stayed there for a couple days. Everyone I met that worked there was really nice. The room was clean and well kept. The bathroom had the little gift basket with Axe deodorant, Liquid Band aids, Breathe right Strips, etc. The only thing worth mentioning was that the heating took a while to take affect in the room and even longer to cool back off. Makes sense with the older rooms and baseboard heaters with no cooling installed. The front desk was knowledgeable about all the attractions and hiking in Aspen as well as the developed and undeveloped hot springs. The jacuzzi felt great at night. The breakfast was simple but good - cereal, yogurt, Belgian waffles, hard-boiled eggs, toast, muffins, assorted fruit, juice, coffee, etc. I'd love to stay there again in the high-season to see how well they do.

We stayed here in August and even though there was no air conditioning it was cool enough at night to be comfortable. The staff is very helpful and the breakfast was great...even belgian waffles. The price was reasonable for Aspen and it was close enough where you could walk to dinner, the store or shopping.

We arrived and found feces in the toilet; bathroom was dirty. The floor was full of hair and mold was on the shower curtain. There were only three lights working in the bathroom out of the entire 8 lamp fixture. It was dingy. Only one bed side lamp bulb worked in the main room. There were pubic hairs in the bed and it was obvious that the sheets were not changed. The bathroom was dirty. The bathroom mirror was covered with skiing stickers. The mattress, was covered with a rubber coating like a child has to sleep on to keep from wetting the bed. The linens were full of holes and the heat was so high (and the themostat did not work), that it was unbearable. We could not sleep and ended up being up all night. The carpet was spongy, stained and dirty. No attendant was available after 10 p.m. We left the next day, as there was no way to possible stay in this filthy hotel.
