My response to the owner. Nice Politically Correct answer. I am a bartender. I have worked in the food industry for years. Your food made me sick. Way to blame the customer and not accept accountability. Read your reviews dude! Get over yourself!

Went to Mezzaluna for a quick dinner on a recent visit. The food was pretty good. Server was friendly, but they did seem a bit overwhelmed by our group (6 + 1 high chair). They were short on happy hour menus so we had to share even though we were one of the only tables there. We went in at five and I don't think they were prepared enough for people to come in when we arrived. That said, food and drinks were good.

    (3)
  • Damon T.

Yup. You were not get sick, but you'll definitely spent Ruth Chris price for Applebee's service and quality. Plus, they won't split bills. Seriously. $35 for a bad NY strip and frozen fries.

  • Misty S.

Overpriced. Not very good service. Just ok. I did like the martini I got, but even at happy hour, we didn't leave without spending a pretty penny and yes, I realize I was in Aspen, but I mean....if you're going to charge those prices, at least have a decent customer service and food to back it up. My husband got sick and someone replied in here that it might have been something else he ate prior. Geez. Just take responsibility. We ate peanut butter and jelly the night before. The tomato soup was not fresh. The service was terrible. If they look at oh her reviews, they're kind of all the same so we can't be the only one who think this.

We were looking forward to a nice evening and stepped inside the restaurant, but instead were greeted with a grumpy, not smiling server. After not helping us find anything vegetarian on the menu, he reluctantly took our order and also took off, not coming back to check on us. The tomato soup we ordered was delicious and we were about to go mild on our opinion, but pretty soon I discovered a hair in my pizza! Told the staff and they didn't do anything about it. The horror wasn't yet over as I soon discovered another hair in another slice! Well, at least they didn't charge us for the hair infested pizza!! The server's response to the whole situation " I don't know what to say, sorry".

You cannot go wrong with their carpaccio and pizzas...especially the dry pizza with truffle oil, prosciutto and mushrooms. We eat here every time we come to Aspen, and can always count on a great pizza, salad and pasta. Didn't make reservations?: Aspen can be tough to walk in without reservations, but we seem to have pretty good luck here since they are not on OpenTable. The bar is lively with locals...and it is very laid back but with good foodie food. There is something for everyone here!

The server was a turn off. When he asked for our drink order, my husband ordered a glass of red wine and the server proceeded to ask him if he planned on ordering 2 glasses of wine and if so, he would recommend this other wine and pointed to a menu of wine. Of course, the 2 glasses of wine was $45 and he said it was a better value for my husband. He was so pushy about upselling us to a more expensive wine. When my husband said no, he continued with an alternate suggestion for wine and when my husband said no again, he finally dropped it. Then the push came for appetizers. I ordered a Margarita pizza while my husband ordered one of the red sauce pastas. Pizza was bland and just ordinary and the sauce on on the pasta was not tasty at all. The whole experience was off -putting and for the prices, I would think the quality of the food would be much more orginal and tasty. The server was an over-pushy, up-seller for food and drink just so he could get a bigger tip. By the way we spent a week in Aspen and every night we went to different places to eat--I can't believe this place can compete with some of the other restaurants in the area.

Went to Mezzaluna last week and the food was great and the service was great. Went again today and the service was horrific and the food was mediocre. Our waiter arrived with an attitude, did not fill our water glasses once, could not get me a side of aioli despite 3 requests and then argued with me that I didn't phrase my request properly. The adjacent table felt compelled to speak up and defend me. It's too bad because I won't go back again now. Too many good alternatives in Aspen.

This looked to be the only place open for dinner at 9pm on Wednesday 11/26/14. We walked in and asked to be seated for dinner and were told the kitchen was closed. My wife pointed to a family of 6 who still had their menus out to order. We were told that those people arrived 15 minutes ago so they were still allowed to order... Absolutely perplexing. I can't comment on the food, but I can give an offer my rating of the rude and incompetent management.

Came here for dinner and this was one of the restaurants that was open around 9ish. Bar was good but service was not that great. Would suggest stopping here for grabbing drinks.

The food was decent, but nothing great. My friend had a unique pizza - buffalo mozarella, arugula and prosciutto? Something like that - it was good. I had the calamari, it was too thick for my taste - I like crunchy calamari - but also not bad, I still ate it. The interior seems dated and kinda strange. The waitstaff was fine.

  • Shane N.

They are apparently too busy to modify pizzas for allergies. Both the waitress and the manager actually said that the pizza boy can't make changes because there are too many pizzas in line for the oven... How does this make sense? All the bad reviews just made sense to me.

  • Jeremy T.

Ok, I have only been here one time, but I am pretty shocked by the negative reviews that I have seen on here about this place. Again, granted I have only been here once, but I had a great time and would love to come back. We went here right after skiing, and it was Derby day. We got a table on the deck, but went inside to watch the derby and get some Mint Juleps, as you do. Service was friendly, bartender was great. The happy hour specials were fantastic and the veggie pizza was amazing as was the calamari. The drinks were good, and on a whole I had a fun time. The service on the patio wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. I think this placed is getting dinged due to high expectations, but I would go back.

  • Reba R.

Went for a nice lunch on the patio. Unfortunately, the restaurant was expecting a group of 36 in 70 minutes and was not seating anyone on the patio, even though there were many open tables and we had reservations. Proprietor seemed very stressed about the group and would only allow us to sit inside. Ordered calamari and found that it was almost inedible - chewy with a dry, thick breading and uninspiring sauce. I ordered spinach salad with two crab cakes. Crab cakes were the size of quarters and spinach was tough and the dressing was not very tasty. My companion ordered the chicken sandwich and found that the chicken was like leather. All in all a very disappointing lunch. With so many wonderful restaurants in Aspen, I would definitely pick another one. Only bright spot was the personable young lady greeting patrons as they came in.

  • Tim K.

All of our food (spinach/apple salad, a couple of pastas, tiramisu, flourless chocolate torte) was pretty good, but the service left something to be desired. I suspect we were placed low on the waiter's priority list after we declined, twice, to order alcohol. Also, we were charged for refills on fountain drinks, which I always consider cheesy even at expensive restaurants.

  • Kent C.

Let me start by saying I love and have eaten many brick oven pizza's from all over the world. I decided to order the pizza with sausage only as per the menu. When I got the $17 pizza, I was highly disappointed! There was absolutely no flavor in the crust, sauce, or sausage. I have had frozen pizza that is better than this pizza!

  • Adam M.

Came here with a large group yesterday. We were seated quickly and the service was efficient and friendly enough. The food was just okay. I had the grouper special sandwich--the fish was under seasoned but it was served with some tasty fries. The wife had spaghetti which she said was just fine but not homemade or anything special. Others in our party enjoyed the beef carpaccio and drinks selection. All in all a decent, safe option for lunch in Aspen with prices that aren't cheap but fair for the area. Wouldn't go out of my way to return, though.

  • Gabe B.

Food was good, but not great. Service was very poor. Very. Poor. Our server came around once in a blue moon. We had to ask the bussers/management for drinks/bread/our bill. All in all, if I was in Aspen again, I might go back again.

    (3)
  • Griselda S.

The service was fantastic. I was a bit nervous with the other reviews. First rate, in my opinion; but maybe we just got lucky. The food was delicious. I liked that the normal varieties of Italian were available, but there is an added twist to many of them, making them one of a kind. They have specials that change daily, which is fun. I thoroughly enjoyed a casual, but refined evening of good food for a good price. Yummy!

Been here several times; we frequent Aspen. It's never been anything special and our latest trip was the worst. The veggie pizza was soggy and the sauce was all Pesto (instead of tomato) and very tart. My husbands sausage pizza was just so-so. We had a wait of nearly 20 minutes with a grouchy customer who refused to let us use the available seat next to her. She "expected" a guest who never showed. The tables are so squished together, I felt sorry for the waiters who had very little room to maneuver without bumping into the rest of the customers. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Aspen....this is not one of them.

Love this place!!! I eat at Mezzaluna at least 2 or 3 times a week- lunch and dinner. Food is amazing and the atmosphere is fun and happening! There are several gluten free options which is rare for an Italian menu. My favorites...the burrata and filet with a bottle of the Colterris :) I also wanted to mention that Mezz is a GREAT place to have a large or small party. I've held several birthday parties here and the staff has been amazing. Junior, one of the owners knows how to pick and choose the right appetizers and entrees to make sure the price is right :)

Buy one entree get a second free or pizza or pasta dish (in the off season)! Pretty good deal and makes the place worth checking out. I started out with the flash-fried calamari. The sliced of squid were nice and thick and not overcooked. The calamari was served with a sweet chili sauce. Then came the Peanut-dusted seared Ahi. I was cooked perfectly as Ahi should be, seared on each side and rare in the middle. It was also served on top a bed of shrimp sausage, corn, carrots, and a few different types of potatoes. It was a nice combination that gave the dish an overall unique and refreshing flavor. I also ordered the prosciutto pizza. I had mushrooms, arugula, and topped with shavings of real reggiano (parmesan). Very good. The service was OK, the women that worked there were all over the place but the Mexican busser guy was on point. The Caucasian gentleman with blond hair, I think he was the manager, picked up everything the women forgot. I'm glad he was there. I'd go there again as long as they were running the special.

I've never gotten a good vibe here. Very generic. Lacks character. I had a pasta from the bar menu which was made with frozen veggies. I'll never go back.

Really....really bad.....expensive César salad with salmon. But first I want to tell you about the bar scene. We stopped in for a cocktail. Bartender looked at me as though I had a bullet hole in my forehead. I was concerned his eyes were going to roll back into his head. Aloof....irritated...disinterested....wishing he were looking at a television tube? All words that would describe the gentleman behind the bar. It was a happy day for me and I was at one end of the spectrum and he at the other. We ordered wine and there was no reaction.....none. SO I said did you hear us? That was after he walked away. Usually when you place an order you get a reaction. Hello...thank you...you got it...big can-do missy...SOMETHING! He just left me like I was invisible. He looked over his shoulder and moved his head about 1/100th of an inch so I knew he had the order....best I could tell. No words were exchanged....but he brought the wine. I asked for the crab cakes....same deal. I was wondering if he was a mute, but noticed he spoke with his partner tending bar. Crab cakes were greasy...95% filler. Dealing with the bartender was too surreal. I like the warm fuzzy friendly service type of barman. And no I didn't leave him a tip. He should be working in a lab somewhere that prohibits human contact. We moved to a table and ordered the César with salmon. They charged an extra $15.00 to add a very small soggy piece of salmon to the already $9.50 salad that was no more than the size of a saucer. The dressing tasted like miracle whip with parmesan sprinkled on top. Bill for two came to $98.00 +/-. That included the wine at the bar and crab cakes. How the hell do they stay in business with such arrogance and lousy food? It's not like they have the Aspen magically energy. More like the Aspen want-to-be syndrome.

We were sent here for lunch by the Bellman. In a town of really good restaurants, there is no real reason to go here. It had a bit of a "Denny's" feel to it - food was just OK - but very overpriced. There are many better options.

  • Natalie P.

I never knew I liked bread pudding. Their banana bread pudding forever changed my life. I made my dad order a chocolate cocktail while I ordered an orange flavored one so I could enjoy the best one haha. They were yummy but the chocolate one won me over.

Horrible service & very unfriendly waiters & management!! Food was good, but only a few items! I suggest another restaurant if you are wanting Italian!! They just don't care!!

This spot is one of the best kept gluten free secrets in town! We came here for happy hour and sat on the patio. We split the antipasto board, which was good but I'm not sure worth the $18. The great thing was the pizza! They have gluten free pizza here that is good and you can get a gluten free pepperoni pizza for $7. You can't beat that price outside of Aspen, much less right in the center of town. The margaritas were good too. I agree that the service left a lot to be desired. Our waitress told us it was her last day though, so I just assumed she had short-timer's syndrome. Overall, a great experience and we will be coming back!

Mezzaluna has a combination of factors working in its favor: first, the quality of its food has significantly improved over the years. Mezzaluna's central, communal-style bar is both a nice spot for a drink and an easy place to meet locals and friends alike. The fare can please an entire family, too: Mezzaluna serves fine pizzas, pastas, and lighter, refined fish and chicken dishes, too. We had one of the best burratas in memory last week, and a terrific ahi tuna crudo, too. I find the always-crowded dining room a generally warm place to break bread in the company of dozens, even if the maître d can be grumpy. Overall, Mezzaluna is one of my favorites in Aspen, and it is always a pleasure to return.

Food was ok, bar was good. There are not a lot of choices off season in Aspen with that said I would return.

I wanted to leave 2 reviews based on our last couple visits to Mez. One was to be 5 stars, the other 1 star. Seems I can't leave 2 reviews now, so I'm turning it into one: *****We went to Mez a few weeks ago and both had awesome food! The bar steak was by far my husband's favorite and such a great deal. My gluten free pasta dish was great, too - and also a great deal! Due to the great food and service, we decided we should have an upcoming party at Mezzaluna. *This evening's experience made us doubt our choice for where to hold our party. Waitress only brought the dinner menu (we had to ask for the bar menu), didn't bring bread (had to ask) and no olives tonight with the bread, pasta was pretty bland, added shrimp to a salad (3 shrimp cost $9!!!)... after a long while of not checking in, we flagged her down to ask for a to-go box. We sat there for a while wondering if she was going to ask us if we'd like desert, eventually she did. We said we were thinking about whether to get desert or not and she said she'd be back. We decided to get desert, but then she took so long to come back that we just wanted to leave. The positives - drinks and food came out quick, she was pleasant, check came quickly, and the salad was good.

Working in the Restaurant business for over 10 years, I was motivated to write a Yelp review for Mezzaluna, based on both the quality of food and service. I was first introduced to the restaurant by my cousins who had been coming here for years; I had only just moved to Aspen. We had a lovely evening; good food, great wine and wonderful service. I was so impressed that I decided to have our (wedding) rehearsal dinner there! It has been such a pleasure working with Grant "Junior" over the last few months and we can't wait to show our guests an amazing time. He is thorough, patient and flexible beyond words - the answer is always "yes!" I recently referred another bride there and they too are having their rehearsal dinner there! We look forward to enjoying a warm evening on the patio this summer with our closest friends and family. Thank you Mezzaluna!

Happy Hour Prices are very reasonable. The $7 veggie pizza is good. Crab cake appetizer was solid. Enjoyed it very much, sitting outside. From what I hear the place is known for being overpriced, but I thought for HH in Aspen it was totally in-line.

We ate at Mezzaluna after the Vasque Golden leaf trail run. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly, but our waitress was terrible at communicating. She wasn't warm, helpful or inviting (in fact she looked stressed). She failed to give us before meal bread: she came out with a basket of bread, looked at our table of two, looked at the table of four next to us and gave them bread). We shared our meal. The Chinese Chicken salad was rather tastey without a heavy dressing. We also thought the sausage pizza was good, too. I felt this food was good for anywhere in America and didn't hold any special place being in Aspen or for having a higher price than what you would pay anywhere else. I think you can find better eats in Aspen for the prices paid. I will not go there again.

Nothing to write home about, but a good place for a pricy dinner. Our waitress was nice and helped us out even though we came in a bit late. The food was good, nothing insane but good. I got the ahi tuna dish, which was a good choice. Looked far better than what my friends ordered. I am a bit surprised the reviews were poor on yelp but we had a nice time. It was a bit expensive but then again, you are in aspen.

We went this weekend for lunch during the Food and Wine Classic. The service was completely unenthusiastic. Kim was our server. All the servers seemed interested in was talking amongst themselves. We asked for pizzas to come out well done. Instead they actually weren't even fully cooked. We didn't bother telling Kim as I suspect it would not have been met with a smile. I had a pasta dish that was very good. I have been there in the past and enjoyed my meal. My overall experience this weekend with Aspen restaurants in terms of service is one where I feel no one cares about the customer. Just a job so that these folks can focus on their outdoor activities or whatever brought them to Aspen. Just not very good. However, I would still recommend this restaurant.

Came off 4 day Bpack triip & wanted a solid nice dinner w/ friends. As usual no disappointment here. The crab cake app & rock shrimp pasta were.great but the peppered tenderloin & sides were awesome. Wait staff especially Ansis were very friendly & attentive.

I was in town for a wedding and EVERYONE told me that I HAD to eat at Mezzaluna. We decided to go for dinner and I'm sure glad we did....we had the best time!!! We arrived early for our reservation and requested to be seated outdoors. They seated us immediately. The waiter immediately brought an assortment of bread with delicious olive oil. I was very indecisive with what to order; it all looked amazing and all of my Los Angeles friends had recommended so many items. We decided to start with wine:) It was delicious, a very large pour and very reasonably priced. I then ordered a salad, it was large and satisfying! I vacillated between the tomato soup and pizza or a fish. I decided on the salmon since my skin felt so dehydrated (hey, anything helps). The salmon was amazing!! It was perfectly cooked, so flavorful and the sides were so complimentary! We ended the meal with the most amazing dessert I have ever tasted! It was a moist banana pudding with chocolate and carmel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Y-U-M-M-Y!! In addition to the perfectly delicious meal, the bus boy was extremely attentive to filling my water glass. This is a huge plus for me! It's nice to know that they are trying to make the whole experience perfect!!! For two out of towers, our meal at Mezzaluna was a 10+++++! It was absolutely delicious, we were seated immediately, our waiter was very attentive and friendly and since we were tourist, we asked them to take a million pictures of us and they couldn't be more accommodating!!!!!! I will definitely recommend this restaurant to all Aspen travelers and I will hopefully be back very soon!!! Thank you!!!

Had a late dinner at Mezzaluna and was generally very pleased with menu and quality with great service. We had just driven 16 hours from Los Angeles and hadn't eaten since we left so we may not have been as discerning as normal. Caesar salad, chicken, parmesan, chicken piccata were all very good. Terrific cauliflower mash as a surprise side which was really good. Service was attentive. Atmosphere was quiet but lively. Would go back again for sure. No complaints at all.

Food was good, but not great. Service was very poor. Very. Poor. Our server came around once in a blue moon. We had to ask the bussers/management for drinks/bread/our bill. All in all, if I was in Aspen again, I might go back again.

I love the food here! So good. In response to the other Yelpers complaining about the poor service, that's just the way it is in Aspen. What do you expect from workers who know they will only be in town for a few months? Sometimes the servers are good. Sometimes they suck. I think it really depends on if the workers got to ski that day or not.

  • Marc M.

The place is welcomimg and lively, but the food is simply terrible. We told that to the waiter and his answer was "why did you eat it all if you don't like it?". Well because we were hungry and tired after a day of skiing. But we will never come back.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here while we were in Aspen for a romantic weekend away. I can be pretty uppity about my meals when eating out and I have to say that it was one of the most delicious and memorable meals both of us have ever had. He got the prosciutto pizza which was tasty but the special I got was AMAZING! It was pea and mint raviolis in a mushroom broth finished with sauteed mushrooms and goat cheese. I've tried to recreate this meal many times and can't get it quite right!! So good!!!

I recently ate here and will not go back here if you paid me. I dined here w/ 2 friends. The food was eatable, only just, but the worse part was that no one had any interest in why none of us bothered to finish our meals.

After hiking over with junior from Crested Butte, this patio was a welcome oasis for us. The staff was friendly and seated us at a great table outside. The salmon and pasta dishes we had, along with the staff recommended wines by the glass were all excellent. We will definitely come back next time we are in town...

I was looking forward to coming here after hearing that the food was amazing. However, upon arriving I was extremely underwhelmed. The host had scraggily long hair (it was a male, mind you) and he looked disheveled. He wasn't the most pleasant person either and guided us to a table RIGHT next to the front door which I would have been okay with had it not been for the tight seating arrangement of the restaurant which made me feel like I had been crammed into a small corner to be forgotten. It's ironic because that's actually what happened. Our waitress was HORRIBLE and EXTREMELY inattentive. When your father has to go up to the bar to ask for a refill on a soda you know there's a major problem. She would disappear for 20 minutes or so, come back for two seconds and then leave again. I certainly felt like she put the bare minimum into her job. Another thing I disliked about my experience was how loud the restaurant was. We basically had to scream across the table to be able to hear one another. Take into consideration the fact that the ceilings are high and echo quite a bit and add on a large wedding party full of loud-mouthed drunken idiots and you have yourself a headache and an unpleasant experience. Aside from all of the negativity of this review the meal I had was delicious. I got a filet on top of mashed potatoes in a flavorful, almost gravy-like sauce with veggies. I have to admit I ate every bite but Mezzaluna is overrated and overpriced for what you get and the service you receive. Beware.

The chicken apple spring rolls were awesome. The bar was okay to hang out. Service was friendly. The chicken parm was less than average, as were a few of the other dishes. The food is generally not worth the price.

This restaurant is very consistent and delivers exactly the same food everytime I come in. It may not be the finest Italian food in Aspen, but sometimes consistency and reasonable price are comfortable. By the way, there is a very good bar menu that is much less than the full menu.

I wish I read the reviews before we went. This was to be our big fancy meal in Aspen, but unfortunately a burger shoppe would have been a better choice. Summary- hit and miss. I had the BBQ pizza....tasteless. The English Pea ravioli was very tasty. Chicken spring rolls were so so. Service was so,so. I never felt that we were important. Eater beware.

One of the worst meals I have ever had... And I've had plenty of experiences with good and bad food from traveling internationally and domestically. I'm not going to mention price because I know what I was getting into. The New York strip was dry, cold, BURNT, and WAY too salty. When I told the waiter of my issue he did nothing in the way of customer service. The steak said it came with broccoli, but they took the small portions where a broccoli bipricates and split it amongst 7 plates.. What a joke! The chefs should be ashamed, the waiter should be fired and my money should be refunded. Same on the critics who call this acceptable. The salads were artful but lacking in taste and size. I would rather eat cold McDonalds than eat this dreck again... Drinks were strong.

We took ten adults and two children to dinner at the restaurant. The food was ok and the waiter was very good but the owner is as arrogant as can be. He is the long haired unkempt man waltzing around talking to the young women who have had multiple surgical enhancements. After our waiter told us that they would separate our checks(four separate checks) and took our order, he then said the owner would not let him separate the checks because it messed up the kitchen. The owner said the separate orders would make the food come out at separate times instead of all at once. No way. The food came out at separate times by ten minutes apart. Not good. The waiter told us he would tell us how much each of us owed when he brought the bill. When the check came the owner then made the waiter hand us paper and pencil to figure it out ourselves. When I talked to the owner, he was very arrogant and when I told him the food came out at different times anyway, he just blew me off and said he had been in business twenty five years and tried to hand me pencil and paper to add it up myself. I told him that it was his job to serve us and that we left a very generous tip but he essentially said he didn't care if we came back or not. I told the concierge staff at our condo the issues and they will inform future potential patrons. Some people are so arrogant they should not be in business. The owner of Mezzaluna is one such person. Definitely, do not go there.

I wasn't expecting an Italian mecca, but Mezzaluna is simply uninspired. After reading the reviews I was expecting great food with sluggish service, but I actually had quite the opposite experience. We were greeted by fantastic hosts who were warm, gracious and assisted us to our table right away. Out waitress was extremely kind, social, and was on top of everything. The food on the other hand, was just a notch below average. I was starved, and after a day of getting acclimated to Aspen, we were ready for a great meal. I ordered the chicken parmagiana and my friends ordered the pizzas. While the dish was edible, it lacked any true depth behind it. The chicken was dry, the spaghetti seemed a day old, and the sauce was straight out of a can, simmered, and lathered on top of a very lazy presentation. Again, I wasn't expecting a knock out, but Mezzaluna does not advertise itself as local diner, it presents itself as an exciting Italian hotspot, and the food simply under delivered. Me being me, I devoured it, because my stomach has a mind of its own, but the upstairs disagreed. With so many great places in Aspen, I think I'll continue to explore when I have a craving for some Italian.

I wanted to like this place as I had been once when I was a kid and remember it being good - that was maybe 20 years ago. Sadly, not much has changed with the times. It felt like a 'throw back' to an Italian restaurant in 1992. Everything about our meal was mediocre yet they still manage to charge a premium for it. In my opinion, it's time this place is completely revamped - from the menu, to service and even decor.

It was hard for me to believe that Aspen is a town that exists mainly because of its service industry and the service at places like Mezzaluna could be so bad. We asked for several things that were never brought to us, had several plates offered to us that were not our orders, I never received the right salad, our bill was wrong, and I watched as my boyfriend's pizza took a tour of the other patio tables before the waiter brought it to him. All of that aside, the food at Mezzaluna was good. We ordered the chicken apple egg rolls with a curry peanut dipping sauce--awesome. I want to figure out how to make that at home. The salad that I got--not what I ordered--was fine too. Gorgonzola with spinach and pecans. Good but nothing spectacular. The look of the spot is, of course, trendy and cool. We ate on the patio, equipped with heat lamps, and were quite comfortable. All in all, a good experience if you accepted the service and mistakes for what they were.

Pretty good Italian place. We went at 3PM on a Friday, and it had a pretty decent menu available. The pasta meals weren't offered at that time of day, but the wide array of delicious pizzas were. There's also a great outdoor seating area with lots of tables and lots of sunlight. In all, the restaurant is attractive, well lit, and (miracle in Aspen) nicely priced! Food won't blow your socks off, but it gets the job done. Id give it a 3.5 were I able.

The food is absolutely decent, exactly what you would expect. The menu is one that just about anyone can make do with, especially given the fair prices. But the service, oh my god, it's atrocious! I was with four people and each of our dishes were brought five/ten min apart, and then the check was brought to us before our dessert arrived, come on!

It's pretty good, particularly for Aspen at a moderate price. Had the caprese salad to start with which had roasted tomatoes in a bit of balsamic. Then had the goat cheese pesto pizza which was fairly good. The wine list has a some good moderately priced bottles (~$35/bottle).

Mezzaluna is just OK with me. The food is executed without failure OR inspiration. The bar performs much better than the food. Go to Mezzaluna to see and be seen. An out of the way low key locals place this isn't. One big negative, my friend left for a minute to make a call, and they wouldn't let her back in! (She's hard to forget too). Three stars is a gift.

I have been there twice now, the first time just for dessert with a friend and the second time was a few nights ago. The first visit, we were barely acknowledged at the door and felt completely overlooked (I remember thinking of "Pretty Woman"). We were finally sat and the service was alright- after the server seemed to warm up to the idea of serving us... the dessert was excellent and I'd absolutely love some more of the bread pudding AND the apple pie. On my second attempt, I brought my boyfriend there to celebrate his birthday- I called ahead for reservations and asked specifically if they do ANYTHING for birthdays and they told me dessert with candles. Awesome- That's perfect! We get there, and again- waiting at the uninviting and tiny host stand/entrance to be acknowledged. When we were finally about to be seated I mentioned our reservations and the host (I think he was the manager, as the hostess was a bit incompetent...) remembered it was for the birthday- cool, I thought that was a good sign. The service was crap. The waiter was more concerned with his other tables and we were constantly waiting on him. He brought us the wrong soup- though it was EXCELLENT (tomato soup)- and it was for us to share but only brought one spoon. I spent the entire time trying to flag ANYONE down to get another spoon, but by the time the waiter finally came back to take our entree orders we were finished with our apps and soup. (The calamari is also excellent- very filling). At the end of the meal I was all excited to surprise my boyfriend with dessert or whatever, and the waiter could obviously care less. Nothing was done, nothing was acknowledged. I even reminded the waiter at the end that it was his birthday. He was clearly disinterested. The only time he was ever quick to our table was to drop off and return the check. Way to make us feel like a dollar sign, ass. I'm a server, and while not the best ever, I know how to make someone feel warm and welcome. I left with a bad taste in my mouth and dissappointment- I had been planning this dinner for a while and finalized the place that night, based on them doing something special for him- even if I had to pay for it, I didn't care. Bottom line: the food is great and tasty, but don't go if you are hoping for any kind of service or to feel any kind of hospitality- you're just a dollar sign in their eyes. Honestly, the poor service completely overshadowed how yum the food was- I had to remind myself for this review... I'll probably go there again- for take out...

A group of seven of us were seated on the patio last night - excited to be outside on a gorgeous night. We sat there for about 15 minutes and were never acknowleged by a server so we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Step it up Mezzaluna, or you won't be in business much longer.

This restaurant is a disaster. We came in at 5PM, and were told the kitchen doesn't serve until 5:30, so we decided to wait for it to open. We ordered drinks at happy hour prices. At 5:30 staff started to set tables for dinner. We asked 3 different waiter's to please set our table, as we were very hungry. We were completely ignored. Ours was the last table set for dinner. We had to ask twice for bread. I ordered pasta with bolognese sauce, and a extra side of sausage, for $4. When entree came, I could not see the sausage, and asked where it was. Waiter said it was sliced into the sauce. I dug around into the sauce and found 5 slices of sausage, total. And they were thin slices. Waiter never checked with us after the food was delivered. Then to top it off, they over charged us for the drinks. Save yourself the aggravation, go somewhere else!

Great deal... we threw back a tasty margarita and a DELICIOUS veggie pizza (with creative veggies like matchstick zucchini and carrots, not just green peppers and olives) for about $7 apiece. The outdoor patio is great for sitting in the sun and being mellow. Going off the special apres ski menu cranks up the bill a bit, but if you're looking for options over value, everything else looked quite tasty as well. The service seemed a bit dicey (some guy claimed he'd had our pizza dropped on his table and was tempted to eat in in the time it took for anyone to realize it wasn't actually his), but given how crowded the place was I guess a couple misfires are to be expected.

Calamari goodness! My boss and I went there for dinner tonight, and it was pretty good overall. The place was pretty crowded (typical Aspen crowd, think: rich Coloradoans and Californians), so we decided to sit at the bar, where the bartender did a pretty good job at serving us. We both got beers, and I stuck to the local Fat Tire. The food is Italian, and the menu is pretty extensive: from pasta to pizza to regular meat/fish entrees. We decided to share an order of bruscetta and an order of fried giant calamari for appetizers, and I must say that was pretty tasty. The bruscetta was perfectly seasoned. And don't get me started on the calamari... it was just amazing, not tough at all, very yummy. I'm actually really curious to know where they get it. We then both ordered the pasta special: linguini with Ahi tuna in a marinara sauce with kalamata olives and capers. It turned out pretty good, but not exceptional: the sauce was a little too overpowering, a mistake often made in American Italian cuisine as noted by my boss who's really into Italian food (from Italy, that is). We were both really full at the end of our meal, so portions were definitely big enough. Only three stars (really 3-1/2) because I almost choked when I saw the check: $77 for the two of us...

Pretty good for a reasonably priced place in Aspen. The food itself was good, though the service was odd. Our waiter didn't offer us any alcohol (we were 23 and 25). The older couple seated at the next table was given the wine list as soon as they sat down. We weren't going to order alcohol anyway so it didn't matter, but I thought it was strange to just assume we were both under 21.

Quite a nice place for lunch, this restaurant service seems like it could be a little uneven. For the off-season, the place was chill, but come ski-season I would imagine it is hoping and loud. The pizzas were good and the salads, also.

I think Mezzaluna does a good job with lunch. We sat outside. Pizza was very tasty and cooked well. I had a salad that wasn't overdressed and well composed, with some nice tuna on it. It is reasonable, the service was ok, and the scene...well, it was a scene on that afternoon. I enjoyed my lunch.

Waitress should seek new profession. Seated us during après ski place was nearly empty took 10 minutes to take a drink order. Food was slow and cold. She took it back and brought it back cold.

  • Denny S.

My response to the owner. Nice Politically Correct answer. I am a bartender. I have worked in the food industry for years. Your food made me sick. Way to blame the customer and not accept accountability. Read your reviews dude! Get over yourself!

  • Shane N.

They are apparently too busy to modify pizzas for allergies. Both the waitress and the manager actually said that the pizza boy can't make changes because there are too many pizzas in line for the oven... How does this make sense? All the bad reviews just made sense to me.

Yummy!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
