Everything was superb! The Chef came out twice to check on how we liked the food and I had nothing but praise for him. We had the calamari, grilled vegetables, the eggplant lasagna and the beef tenderloins paired with a delicious Pinot Grigio. The food was delicious, fresh and flavorful! Came here with a large group of 25, it had been pre arranged by our wonderful organizer from the Aspen Institute and all was to perfection. Thank you for the delicious food, the awesome ambiance and the personalized attention. As a native Chicagoan I appreciate great food & amazing service. I will definitely be raving about you and recommending you. Keep up the great food and vibe and I hope to be back to Aspen one day soon!

laziest bartender award. Hans from MN and his sidekick. The wait staff on the other hand kick butt! Personable and on it.

One of the BEST bar menus in Aspen. Great meal and service. Will be back.

My meal was simple awful. Every dish was over salted. The squid ink risotto was almost inedible.

Campo is great just don't sit on the patio on a Saturday nite, it seemed like we were having dinner with the couple next to us.

Working in Aspen is a unique experience. The pay rate doesn't reflect the prices of actually living here, and Campo De Fiori is only in a tourist's budget. However, my friend's family came in and took us to Campo De Fiori as a treat, and it was very nice to get a meal out. We enjoyed the outdoor seating, and they do have heaters. However, you have to ask them to turn on the heaters, and it was near impossible to flag down a waiter do this. Inside was packed and loud, and I would reccomend eating outside. The service was subpar when we began the meal, but after a bottle of wine and three appetizers were ordered, the service increased greatly. The waiters here just want your money so if you aren't spending, go somewhere else. As this was a special occasion, I was treated to many of the items on the menu. While the table did order two bottles of red wine, I only took a small sip of each. The wine prices are not for the faint of heart, but both tasted wonderful. Here was my experience: Antipasti: My favorite of these was the Bresaola Valtellina ($20), which was thinly sliced tenderloin with arugula and fresh shaved Parmesan. The meat was wonderful, and squeezing the lemon over the dish made it even better. The Cozze e Vongole ($20) was a mix of mussels and clams that were good but not as good as the prior. The Autannale ($18) was a great mix of squash and artichokes. Contorni: I was a huge fan of the Cannellini alla Salvia ($10), which was just white beans and sage. But the taste was fantastic. Pasta: Thanks to Yelpers, I stuck with the Gnocchi Spinaci ($25). The Spinaci dumplings were tossed with tomatoes and olive oil. The menu said there would be garlic and feta, but I tasted no garlic and saw no feta. For homemade gnocchi, they were slightly too dense but tasted good. I will say that for the price point, the gnocchi was not up to standards. If you are looking for good gnocchi, I'm happy to recommend a place in New York City. What made this dinner great was the company, and Campo De Fiori did not provide that. The food was passable for the price point, but I wouldn't come back here. Nothing special.

I've been to the campo both here and in Vail and while the food is good, it just doesn't stand out. The environment here is a bit lacking--it's a bit dated, and lacked ambiance. It is very crowded; to the point that it's difficult to move past other diners without brushing up against them in some way. As for the food, it was just Ok. I ordered the pesto chicken, which was good, but the veggies were soggy and the purple potatoes were burnt to the point that, at first, I couldn't tell they were potatoes. We also had both the fried and grilled calamari, which was great but the dipping sauce lacked flavor and tasted nothing like cocktail sauce. I think If I'm going to spend the money for a nice meal, I'd probably choose somewhere where I'm a bit more wowed with the overall experience.

This may be an Aspen institution but they are resting on their former glory. I ate there last night and they ran out of several menu items and what they did have was only fair. In a nutshell, this place has cramped seating, is too noisy, is extremely overpriced, has average food and crappy service. There are much better choices in Aspen and I think people only eat here because of it's longevity or to prove they are old school Aspenites. Skip it.

Situated in "the restaurant parallelogram" (actually a square), Italian food explodes out of the kitchen inches away from a few other restaurants, including Cache Cache Bistro. Confusingly, the outdoor area (those very same few inches away) is not, to my knowledge, shared with Campo. Indoor seating only here. We sat 5 feet from the kitchen at a very long, tightly packed table. There was 8 of us, so if you plan on coming with more people than that, definitely make a point to request a corner. The food was good. Just about everyone got pasta (naturally) and everyone was happy. I had the Linguine Crostacei - kind of my test dish for a place that specializes in Italian (beyond a good fra diavolo / bolognese). I also had a caesar salad, dressing on the side - quite good. The only hiccup came towards the end - when our waiter seemingly disappeared into the abyss and we were trying to get our check. We found him, and then we needed to split the check into food and alcohol (company picks up the food, we split the alcohol). He said...no? Apparently their computer system is antiquated to the point where he cannot just move things around on the screen; the entire order needed to be re-entered manually to generate two checks. We then offered to split the bill on two cards, just putting the wine (manual addition) on one card and food on another. Impossible, yet again. Perplexing. In the end, he re-entered everything (we watched, the computer was right behind us) and we got the separate checks we needed. No star demotion for this, but just be aware...if you need to split the check or separate items or something similar...mention it upfront and avoid this potential headache.

Typical aspen restaurant. Very crowded, over priced and horrible service. We had a party of 6. The waiter rushed us the entire meal. Dropped a fork down my back, spilled a martini, dropped a plate in front of one of the guests. One of the people in our party ordered the salmon and it was about 1/4" thin with skin on it and it tasted very very fishy. Another guest order steak and it was way over cooked. It does have a great patio!

The spinach gnocchi and the montanara were a hit!! Very good. I wouldn't recommend the calamari tho. All over very happy and would go back

Love Campo! Consistent consistent every time. One of our favorite restaurants in Aspen. Service, food and bar are always great. The gentleman at the front is always accommodating. No snob appeal, just a good restaurant. We go every summer and ski season and enjoy it every time.

The food was great, but the atmosphere took away from the overall rating. If I could break up the rating system, here's how I would score the place: food- 5 stars service- 5 stars ambiance- 0 stars If you plan on having dinner here, make a reservation and ask to be seated as far away from the bar as possible. The music gets really loud and the people that flock to the bar area have a sense of desperation which reduces their manners to nil.

As you can tell from my other reviews of Italian restaurants, I'm very particular about my Italian food. This was our fifth time at Campo and it didn't disappoint. We never miss coming here when in town since we discovered it. First, it has a great atmosphere, whether outside on the patio or inside. If anything, the music needed to be louder and more traditional. We could barely hear it! Second, the service is incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. Third, the menu is well thought through and each dish was perfectly prepared. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the bland chocolate cake. Yes, the prices at Campo are a little over the top. Their prices are not quite competitive with other similar restaurants in Aspen.

This place is Awesome!* *if you like extremely loud techno music while idiots dance on tables and throw shit for no reason while you are served $40+ plates of ok food. Ok might be overstating... I had the rack of lamb medium rare and one was cooked medium while the two others were medium well. Seriously, the rap and techno music was so loud you couldn't speak to anyone without screaming. The waiter said that it's aspen and it gets loud here.... The name of this place means "Field of Flowers" when it should be named Il Carnuto e Idioti Danza

Not a great menu selection. Service was horrible, we were ignored after our server took our entree order. Food was mediocre for Aspen's high prices.

Wonderful Italian food and great atmosphere made for a perfect dining experience at this Aspen favorite. Bar and wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. The seafood linguini was fabulous with plenty of calamari (my fave) in a nicely spicy red sauce. And the people watching here is first rate--lots of characters!

Dining out in Aspen is expensive. Campo De Fiori is worth it. Too often, expensive meals in Aspen are a disappointment, but our meal (6 persons) at Campo was wonderful. I think our selections included beet salad, pasta & meatballs, and scallop risotto. Not a single negative. There's also an extensive wine list, but it has a number of reasonably-priced choices. Know that the restaurant is small, without room to spread out at your table, but the crowded atmosphere added to the feeling that you were part of the chef's personal experience. We will definitely return to Campo when we next visit Aspen.

This place was great for a lot of reasons, but space was not one of them. We came on a weeknight during the end of March and the service and food was awesome! We were a large group of 20. We were seated quickly and received our drinks and apps quickly. While we were served quickly, we were not rushed. We had a little bit of everything and it was all very nicely done. The problem was the space. The place was really jammed and we were up against the windows. if anyone needed to get up for any reason, the entire table on one side had to get up. The other thing seems rather minor, but can be challenge on a busy night is the bathroom. It is a single bathroom and some of our party had to wait quite a bit for their turn. Its also awkwardly placed in the bar area.

WOW! The food here is incredible. My husband and I were craving Italian food and are so happy to have found this gem. I had the homemade mushroom raviolis and he had the vodka penne with pancetta...both were fabulous. On a cold night, fill your belly's with their hearty and delicious dishes!

Maybe it was what we ordered, but this place was very underwhelming. Very. The gnocchi were so heavy, and my wife's penne was...fine. This place came highly recommended and we would not come back. Such a shame.

What can one say about this place? In the summer, it is great, good food, no hectic, no attitude. But come Hi season, the maitre D, gives you more shade than you need, no matter how good the food is. The food is great, but not sure that I would want to put up with that type of attitude!

We came the week of Food and Wine Classic and the place was packed. Outdoor area seemed more lively, but no table available so we sat inside. Not bad, open kitchen and nice ambience. Service was quick and our server was friendly and upbeat. We started with the Calamari Fritti - nicely seasoned with a light crunch and the Formaggi e Salumi - cured meats, artisanal cheeses, nuts and fig. The Linguine Positano had a nice garlic flavor and a good helping of shrimp. The Risotto Porcini had a nice soupy texture finished off with truffle oil. Our server tried to talk us into ordering the Salmon special which he insisted was very good. Being from the northwest, we politely passed on the offer of farm-raised Salmon!

Food B- Service C- Bar A+++ The restaurant is not what i expected, we waited very long, the food was Disapointing. I tasted: . The Boutarga pasta: stay away, the chief has probably never tasted real boutarga pasta. . The Milanese veal scalopine was definetely the best choice . the shrimp pasta were ok but very average . Same for the eggplant pasta Don't waste money on deserts, we had a creme brulee and a tiramisu, both disgusting. The owner who "welcome you" is very unpleasant. But the after diner party at the Bar of the restaurant was amazing. the music was really good and everyone start dancing on the tables. The Bartenders were very nice and it was real good fun! Next time, i'll skip the expensive restaurant and will head directly to the bar.

Very nice ambience, the pre-fix dinner menu was very good, I got the risotto which was very good, my buddy got the tenderloin which was better. However, I thought the wine menu was extremely over priced. I'm used to 2-3 time retail, some bottles were selling for 4x retail here.

Delicious hidden gem. We were here in the off-season, when almost everything else was closed. We were lucky enough to follow another couple down the stairs that led to Campo de Fiori. The food and service were great!

I agree with most other reviewers, this standby in Aspen is very good, but my friend had led me to expect such great things, I was underwhelmed. 3.5 stars rounded to 4 The good Service staff - friendly, approachable, attentive, knowledgeable Patio - fabulous open air space, crowded, but gave European "flair" that felt real The pasta - homemade, perfect sauces Dessert: yummo as Rachel would say The Bad Caprese salad had the worst looking tomatoes. The Ugly The bar was hugely crowded - full disclosure it was 4th of July - but filled with young trust funders. Maybe I'm annoyed because I don't have the trust fund, but felt they were the ugly aspen. Bar turned into lounge, with the bass line thumpin', about 10pm. Ok with me, but it was unexpected at such a small restaurant.

This place has a menu that sounds good. But the prices are just totally out of line with the quality. I started with the caprese salad which was excellent. Fresh heirloom tomatoes and great mozzarella. I had the ravioli with mushrooms. The pasta didn't taste fresh, like something out of a box or frozen and shipped. The ravioli were swimming in a rather uninspired cream sauce. I generally have problems paying $20 for pasta, and paying that for mediocre or bad pasta just doesn't do it for me. (Several other people in my party had uninspired pasta). The wine list was alright and we found a $35 Chianti that was fairly nice. Our table of 4 made it out for $45/person with 1 bottle of wine between us.

The best Italian in Aspen! Small, quaint, great atmosphere. Nightly specials never disappoint. Grilled seafood appetizer and caprese salad are a must, penne vodka, homemade ravioli and montanara pasta are the best!

Okay so we arrive about ten minutes after our reservation. The place is packed and the host says he will be right with us. He seats a group ahead of us.... while he is doing this a 60some odd year old man and is 30 something wife/gf who looks entirely plastic is wearing a sweater dress from the mid 90s walk in. (She has on ridiculously expensive shoes that make her fake tan and fake blonde hair look laughable.) They push past us not even acknowledging any other guests presents and because they are hovering over the host's desk they get seated first. (-1 Point) The host realizes the mistake after seating the grotesque couple and assures us a seat on the patio and delivers with his promise after getting us each a glass of wine for having to wait (1 point regained). We sat outside ona nice night but it was a little too crowded and to noisey to be fully enjoyable. After getting our menus our server disappeared and service there after remained fairly slow. (-1.5 points for service and atmosphere.) When our food came everything tasted pretty great. Top notches to the chefs and the host. We had: 1. Red and gold beet salad - fresh and rich with a delightful dressing, and a salty sprinkling of hard cheese 2. Beef carpaccio - excellently prepared with and extra flavor of artichoke hearts, parma, and arugula 3. pasta with italian sausage - the sauge was full of delicious herbs to make a nice hearty dish 4. seafood liguine - fabulous spicy tomato sauce and lots of scallops, clams, mussles, and calamari - NO SRIMP OR WHITE FISH - a true sign of a good italian pasta dish. :) Food gets four stars but I have to deduct 1.5. (Remember the slow service :( ) But I rounded up instead of down like most yelpers because I am nice.

The absolute worst osso bucco I have ever eaten served on top of terribly overcooked pasta. My wife's pasta was also terribly overcooked. The chocolate dessert was inedible. We left most of everything we ordered and the waiter did not se to even notice. It is hard to understand why it is crowded. . Save your money.

This is as authentic as you can get in the States. Omg, this chef must "cook from the heart" - as my Firenze friend Gianpalo says. Campo is on point from simple dishes to elaborate flavors featured on and off the menu. Btw, I love that the chef's lack of ego allows substitutions and pretty much WHATEVER!!!

    (5)
  • Karen S.

Campo is super yum. Great food and a very knowledgeable wait staff. Beautiful to sit outside. We went at 5:30 so didn't have issues with over crowding as some say.

    (4)
  • Bridget B.

Campo is always a treat. Wonderful risottos and friendly service. I started with the Tortino appetizer and finished with the Girasoli al Caprino and both lived up to expectations (although I would have enjoyed a bit more goat cheese in my dish). Another in our party had the Risotto Porcini which I also sampled and enjoyed. As with any Aspen restaurant, it will be crowded and service will slow during the busy holiday weeks of Christmas and 4th of July. It's unavoidable. Our service (early on a Sunday evening in January) was prompt and attentive. The only real drawback to Campo is that it's small and when it gets crowded (as it often does), it's very noisy.

  • Bernard M.

Not sure what all the hype was. It was a decent meal, but not deserving of the reviews I read. The my veal was good but not great and my wife's pasta dish was not that good. I will say that the mussels we had to start were excellent, but that doesn't take much "cooking." I probably will give it another try the next time I visit Aspen.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
