This place is phenomenal! If you haven't had breakfast here, you are missing out. Period. I would highly recommend ordering the huevos rancheros. Yum! Our family stopped by on more than one occasion and were impressed with each visit. Besides the huevos rancheros, we also ordered traditional breakfast entrees that were palate pleasing. Our kids ordered pancakes and were very pleased. The pancakes are gigantic! This is a quaint little restaurant that sits off the beaten path a bit. But not so far off the path that you can't go. We were visiting the area in the summer and were able to eat outside on the front porch. It was an enjoyable experience watching the hummingbirds visit the hanging baskets while sipping on some delicious coffee. I felt like I was visiting a relative's house for breakfast instead of a restaurant. It was great. Check this place out. You won't regret it. There are plenty of options on the menu to satisfy everyone.

This place is a destination! Take your sweetheart, take your friends and family and drive on up here for a great meal - homemade everything, jam, biscuits, beans. Huevos, sandwiches, onion rings (!), omelets and their truly famous green chili with pork. Take some of this home with a side of tortillas and you will be so happy later in the day. Bonus is the drive - a gorgeous trip from any angle. I highly recommend this route from Boulder: take Lee Hill drive til it ends at Left Hand Canyon. Take a left. Go up through Ward. Right on Hwy 72. Left on Hwy 7. Left on Main Street through Ferncliff and up to Allenspark. It's also a nice drive from Nederland along Hwy 72, Peak to Peak. Enjoy.

Loved this place. Fresh, healthy, home-cooked fare off the beaten path. We headed here for a hearty breakfast after a morning ride at the nearby stables. Cinnamon-scented coffee. Giant fluffy pancakes (hint: order *one* per kid). Yummy omelets. Thick toast made from home-baked bread. Cute decor - have to guess the art glass is from the Estes Park handblown glass place. Eat on the porch if there's a table available.

Stopped here while on vacation in Estes Park. The service was great. The coffee was absolutely delicious, so glad I checked Yelp before heading out to breakfast. I got the banana pancakes(ordered 2), which are massive and I pretty much ate the equivalent of one. My girlfriend got the huevos rancheros and I'm pretty sure if I'd tried to sneak a taste I would have been stabbed in the hand. Great cozy place, tucked away in a gorgeous mountain setting. I would recommend this place to anybody and everybody who either lives around the area, or is just visiting.

We went here for lunch. The restaurant is off the highway and easy to miss, but worth finding. One of our party went inside to pay (cash only I believe), but the rest of us sat on the porch and never even went inside. An older gentleman on a bike rode up and we struck up a nice conversation with him before and during lunch. The tables and picnic tables on the porch encourage you to get to know your neighbor. The food? One side of the menu was breakfast (served all day), and the other side was lunch. Two of us had salmon burgers, which were delicious, while the other two had BLT's on that homemade bread everyone keeps writing about. Our party raved about it too. The cinnamon coffee was a big hit as well. If you're going for lunch, get there early, and it filled up pretty well by noon.

This is the destination for an early morning bike ride from Boulder. The pancakes, omelettes, the coffee, WOW. Great staff, fun little bathroom.

Once you've been to the Meadow Mountain Cafe, you'll realize what you've been missing. I would never in a million years have known about this place and now that I've been, it's imprinted itself in my brain as the epitome of the small log cabin cafe hidden in the mountains that I dream about having a great breakfast at. My father recently retired to Estes Park. Not long after, he discovered this gem of a restaurant. Now it's an annual tradition to go have breakfast there when my sister and I visit. Each year it's a highlight. Hidden up in the Rocky Mountains in Allenspark, CO (about 15-20 minutes from Estes Park), The Meadow Mountain Cafe is a tiny log cabin built on the side of a mountain. (The gorgeous DRIVE alone to GET there is worth going!) The restaurant is small and consists only of a small dining room. (There's outdoor seating and so i would wager the summer months see a bigger and busier operation.) I'd say the place seats maybe twenty people, thirty max. The cabin is heated by an old iron wood burning stove in the corner. We sat at the table closest to it this year and we all began to disrobe to adjust to the amount of heat it put off. From the kitchen, you can hear the owner/cook rocking out to an oldies radio station while she whips up comfort food's greatest hits. The crowd looks like mostly locals. I mean, if I were a tourist visiting Colorado, I don't think I would have any idea of even HOW to look for a place like this, let alone, find it. As soon as you sit down, the waitress comes over and makes sure everyone gets a cup of Joe to get the morning started. (Everyone gets a different mug the restaurant either picked up at a flea market or are souvenir's from past adventures.) Then you get to the business at hand; stuffing your face with Rocky Mountain Comfort Food. Each year I get the biscuits and gravy. It's an enormous plate with two home made biscuits split in half and then slathered with the thickest, meatiest, craziest gravy I've ever experienced. The bacon on the side are thick slabs of meat two inches wide and a quarter inch thick. My sister gets the huevos rancheros, which always look equally amazing. Other favorites include thick blueberry pancakes bursting with fresh blueberries. Like I said, the menu is full of great looking options ranging from breakfasty stuff to burgers and sandwiches. Unfortunately, since I only visit Colorado once a year or so, I go for my standard. Maybe next year I'll switch it up. In the meantime, I'll periodically dream of that warm little cabin and the amazing food; especially while enduring a cold New York winter! So...if you find yourself visiting Rocky Mountain National Park or Estes Park... make some time to get up and eat at Meadow Mountain Cafe.

Good burgers and homemade fries in an unusual location. We were here scouting out a wedding location for our daughter. She paid for lunch, one of the reasons I liked this place. Another was the food and the down home atmosphere. The bathroom is an outhouse in house. Check it out.

Small space but AWESOME food. Homemade bread is delicious. I wish I had asked if I could buy a loaf. Besides plenty of meat options, there is a vegetarian section which made me very happy. No fake meat or anything elaborate, but just good options and great food. I'd definitely go back. Suggestion - make sure you have good directions or navigation - it's a well hidden gem.

Awesome vegetarian options - even for meat-eaters! My fave is the salmon melt

We make a point of stopping in for their great onion rings but the burgers are super as well.

Absolutely adorable. This is a tiny, family run (I'm assuming) place that really hits the mark. We stopped here before a hiking trip one morning and it was fabulous! They were busy but still served up our food right away. The food was wholesome, healthy, and well proportioned for the price. The coffee was absolutely out of this world. I enjoyed the cozy feel of this little place--like I was having breakfast at Grandma's mountain cabin. We will definitely be back. (Also, they do take credit cards, for at least a $20 transaction.)

Second time we've been here. Judging by the leftovers on the table, the pancakes are really big. We had lunch. My wife had the salmon burger, which was very good. Our friend had a cheeseburger, which I can't speak for. Our other friend and I had the Reuben sandwich. Delicious! This is a big sandwich. They toasted the marble swirl bread, piled it with corned beef and sauerkraut. The cheese was a little funny. Tasted more like Cheez Whiz, than Swiss. Top it all with a Thousand Island-type dressing. Added on the onion rings, instead of chips. Those were good, too. Yes, it is cash only, and you go inside to pay. We sat on the pleasant patio.

To second the review my wife posted yesterday, I want to say that the breakfast I had was probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant. What made it so good were both the ingredients and how my meal was prepared. In addition to perfectly cooked potatoes (as a German I'm a stickler for good potatoes), my Denver skilled included big chunks of well cooked ham (crisp on the outside) and perfectly fried "sunny side up" eggs. What was especially impressive was how well everything was seasoned, not just with salt & pepper but a range of other spices that made the meal very fragrant and immediately signaled that this was indeed "home cooked." Finally, I also liked that the cheese hadn't already fully melted but gradually did so atop the eggs as I was eating my way through what was a very hearty meal. To make things even better, the toast was homemade, as was, it seemed to me, the strawberry jam. This is a wonderful little cafe, which, we were told, first opened some 80 years ago. At the end of our meal we were offered homemade cookies, which capped a perfect breakfast. If we make it back to this part of the country we'll definitely return. Highly recommended!

A local favorite. Is great for breakfast or lunch. My wife loves the veggie burger and she's not a vegetarian. Regular burgers are awesome. Try the namesake Meadow Mountain burger. Will take a bit of time to get your food but hey you're in the mountains for a reason. Kick back and enjoy.

An hour drive from downtown Boulder (hint, head up 6 from Lyons for a beautiful canyon drive). Everything about this place is perfect. The salt and pepper shaker collection. The super small dining area. The lack of parking lot. The pot belly stove. Friendly folks, off the beaten path, great food and an adventure to get to. What more can you ask for?

Had breakfast with family on the outdoor patio. Truly a gem of a place off the beaten path. By the way, it's not exactly where the Yelp map shows it. Take Business Hwy 7 about 1 mile and you will see it on the north side of the road.

Fantastic food and service. I am on a low sodium diet and they were able to make me a great burger and sweet potato fries. My eating partner got a breakfast burrito that was very good and huge. The smoothie I got was a little under blended; it had a bunch of ice chunks. Other than that, no complaints.

Maybe we were there on an off day,but even so it was a disappointing breakfast. We were able to sit right away outside on the porch. From there we could read the sign telling everyone that the food is cooked to order and may take some time to prepare. Fair enough, but that doesn't explain a 20 min wait for coffee. When our food finally did arrive, the 4 egg omelet looked awfully small and the skillet dish ordered without cheese came covered in it. It went back to the kitchen and came out again in just a few minutes. Unfortunately there was very little meat in it this time... really..like we counted 6 little tiny pieces of meat . The bottom line is we spent over $34 on breakfast for 3 that took almost an hour and a half altogether. I've been a cook, breakfast just shouldn't take that long to cook. We really wanted to like this place. It has an amazing atmosphere and since we were going to be in the area for 10 days, we were hoping to be able to hit this place every morning. The cost in time and money just didn't live up to the hype.

My friend and I went last Sunday again. Our favorite place for breakfast. I had the usual for me, the 2 eggs with bacon and a side of two pancakes. Loved it. When I went to put syrup on though the whole top came off pouring all over my plate. Glad I like syrup. Got a fresh plate and moved the food so it was all good. Had plenty of good coffee. We arrived at 8:30, they open at 7:30, we got a table but it's lucky I think, any earlier and we probably would not have had a seat, any later, after "church", wouldn't have had a seat either and I don't like to wait tooling. The time before we had to wait an hour. The waitress is always nice but she's the only one waiting tables. It's a small place. Surely will go back again.

Our friends tell us it's great. But - important warning!! You can't believe the hours listed here. Drove up for breakfast on a spring Tuesday and it wasn't open - even though it says here that it is.

Whenever I miss my grandma I drive out to Meadow Mountain Cafe. This is Grandma's kitchen with just a few more tables. Cozy, great coffee, Johnny Cash playing from the kitchen, incredible huevos rancheros and mountain folksy atmosphere=heaven!

Came here today for brunch before hitting the road back to Nebraska. We were staying in Estes Park, which has a lot of touristy-looking places. I was looking for something local and memorable and Yelp delivered with this little gem. As others have mentioned, the drive along CO Hwy 7 (Peak to Peak) is gorgeous. I had the Huevos Rancheros with green chili and a side of toast. My husband had the Denver Skillet. Everything was delicious! You could tell it was homemade with very fresh ingredients. The cinnamon coffee and wood-burning stove were also welcome on a chilly winter morning. I would not hesitate to come back again the next time I am in the area.

I hit this nice little place with my family at about 11:30 so it was a mixed table of breakfast eaters and lunch eaters. I had Huevos Rancheros and it was tasty. I could have sworn it came with bread and potatoes but the waiter said no. Maybe I misread the menu. Anyhoo. My side order of homemade toast was excellent too. Everyone else enjoyed their food -lunchers and breakfasters alike. Warning-when I say this place is little I am not kidding. There are maybe 5 tables and the entry door hits one of them when you walk in. Lots of locals seem to frequent this restaurant and they are not shy about making it known they are waiting for a table. The bathroom is also a little less than private but hey, it's in the country. Would go back for sure.

By far my favorite restaurant in the area. Home made breads, desserts, original recipes, friendly, respectful, understanding staff, (whom I once had the pleasure of serving as a group at a different restaurant I was waiting tables at) good coffee, super homey feel to it. Always great music playing from the kitchen (Lyle Lovett, Willie nelson, etcetera...) this place reminds me of my late grandmother's house in VT. Thanks guys, I love it.

This is my favorite breakfast place in the mountains! I have been going here during the summers for at least 15 years! The homemade bread is delicious! The omelets and home fries are so tasty! If you are looking for some wonderful home cooking this is the place!

Amazing!!! Quaint, delicious, perfect mountain cottage. Coffee was fantastic, blueberry pancakes the best ever! Take your time and enjoy the experience.

Excellent home cooked food thats unbeatable for breakfast or lunch. Try the blueberry pancakes and you'll be hooked. Equally popular with the locals and visitors. However, its a tiny place and very popular with the church crowd on Sundays (or any time in the tourist season) so don't expect fast food. Come relaxed and enjoy the atmosphere.

This place is a great find. Spending my summer working in Estes Park, and sometimes it's nice to get away from the town. I heard about this little spot from a friend, and I decided to check it out. The food is great! I ordered one of the omelets. The ingredients were fresh, and the reviews were right: the toast with homemade bread was amazing! I also love that they give the option of toast & potatoes or pancakes as a side with your omelette! The atmosphere of this place is very home-y You'll probably be sharing a table with some strangers, but there's no better way to enjoy breakfast than with new friends. I'd come back to this place regularly if I could.
