I gotta hand it to Rolling Dunes for one dish: the Tin Tin Pan savory crepe. Here's the gist of it: Tin tin pan Tofu, eggplant, garlic, tomato, cilantro, jack cheese, roasted peppers, pine nuts, marinara sauce And you get a side salad. And you get outstanding red potatoes done with rosemary and (olive oil?). All this for just shy of $8. And the portions are large enough to have seconds the next day. One day I'll have a sweet crepe here, but the Tin Tin Pan is a veggie standby.

Had the vegetarian sandwich and was completely blown away. Everything about the place was awesome, the food was amazing, the service impeccable and attentive, the ambiance was funky and cool. When I'm in the neighborhood I will be eating here. No doubt.

I like this place. a lot! The service is friendly and it's very comfortable. You pay first and then they bring you your food. The outside seating is great, especially because they don't forget about you even after you've paid! I've had lunch and breakfast here and both times the food has been amazing. Their potatoes are delicious and it's vegetarian friendly :) Very clean. very cool. Update: Had the pancakes today. I was disapointed. Instead of finding a ball of butter on top of my yummy looking pancakes i found a ball of garlic butter! Also, the pancakes didn't have a good, sweet flavor. The pancakes were sour..it was off, a strange flavor. Watch out for the pancakes.

Good, filling food, generous portions, delicious cakes. Their menu is pretty extensive too: egg dishes, pancakes, french toast, savory crepes, sweet crepes, salads, sandwiches, pasta dishes, and more--whew! The atmosphere is pretty cool too: high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, and art work/murals indoors; several tables outdoors too (but be warned, the sidewalk outside is uneven, so getting the table and chairs to be stable can sometimes be a bit of a struggle). Otherwise, a great place for a filling meal and/or delicious slice of cake!

As always, this is a great place to have lunch or dinner. After recovering from a night of drinking, I came to Rolling Dunes for lunch and decided on the BLT. Even though I was only able to finish half my plate, I'm glad that this place has not changed much. The place is extremely consistent and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a quick lunch with a great environment. Parking on lakeshore can get pretty crowded during lunch hours, but trying searching the streets behind Trader Joe's/Walgreens' parking lot. Dinner is no different with their selection of pasta dishes.

Nice spot for crepes. Clam chowder not bad either.

I had to come back and give this place its fifth star. On my return visits, it's all been right. I know what I go for and what to expect, I get it with polite & fast service, I get to jam out to the music plus the vibe still remains nice and friendly. Why jip them a star when I have zero complaints? Way to go, Dunes!

Oh Rolling Dunes, how I've missed you.....how could I have forgotten about you way over there on Lakeshore? I know, I know, I must stop favoring Grand....forgive me? :) I ordered a Pete's Sandwich (by the way - THANK YOU PETE for having a sandwhich) and left a very happy camper last night. Every since I tried Johnnie's Pastrami in LA, I get these random cravings for a really good pastrami sandwhich.....and oh my goodness, I think I have found my go-to place to satisfy that craving! Loving that this is minutes from my building by car.......and even more loving that I can justify eating the entire plate of food without any remorse by making the trek around Lake Merritt and up Lakeshore, having dinner, and then walking home. Yum. I mean seriously. YUM.

I was on Lakeshore running a few errands and thought I'd try somewhere new to grab a quick lunch. Before realizing what an extensive crepe menu they had, I popped into Rolling Dunes. I think I waited longer trying to make up my mind than I did for my food. I ended up settling for a cup of their lentil soup (I had had a crepe earlier in the week), and left with a steaming hot cup of soup and side of bread. As I drove back to the office I could smell its deliciousness seeping out and got eager to slurp it up at my desk. Lo and behold, the reason I could smell it was because their to go container did not do it's job well. It definitely was "to go," and by that I mean "to go all over my car." Thankfully, the crappy manufacturing of the soup container did not taint the taste of this soup and I was able to salvage enough to enjoy. I definitely give the flavor, quality, and amount of their soup 5 stars. Maybe next time they should let it cool a bit before packaging up...I came to the conclusion that the glue started to melt, causing severe leakage. Regardless, hopefully I'll make it back to try one of their many delicious crepes.

This place satisfies my once-in-a-while savory crepe craving. Found two go-to crepes for lunch, the chiroom and the mama-mia. I like that they have a salad and potatoes on the side. Looks like they're improving because a few months ago, the potatoes would be fried hard and black, but now it's seasoned well and lightly cooked. Would come here more if it wasn't so $$. You've got to try their lemonade!

This place was great. Tall ceilings, and cool art. Nice people working. I had a vegetarian crepe with potatoes and coffee and it was perfect! The crepe was DELICIOUS. It was about $13, but it was worth it. It's a casual place.

We went in for lunch because it looks like a nice place. I ordered a hot sandwich. It came but instead of grilled it was if it was steamed. It was impossible to eat. The fried potatoes looked like they would be good but we didn't stay to find out.

Sometimes I just need a grilled sandwich with a hearty portion of homefries and a delicious green salad. When that happens I roll down the street to Rolling Dunes. I am a fan of the mango iced tea, and the desserts are great. I usually dont go on the weekends because there are major lines, but its never packed in the evenings for dinner. I'm happy to have a reliable place for sandwiches, salads and crepes in my neighborhood like this.

My first visit to Rolling Dunes was for breakfast one Sunday. We arrived at 10am, which apparently was just in time to beat the crazy rush of people waiting in line out the door to order their food. I had eggs florentine with salmon and it was heavenly. I could see myself getting hooked and eating that same meal every Sunday. The fresh squeezed OJ was served in a really big glass, which is rare to find. The coffee was solidly good, but in no way great. Everyone at my table was similarly pleased with their meals. I would rate this experience 4 stars. I returned to Rolling Dunes recently for dinner and didn't find the pesto pasta with scallops to be particularly tasty. As a matter of fact, it was downright bland. I admit that I'm more into garlic than some, but rarely do I salt my food, and I had to reach for the shaker 3 times, which equals a 2 star review. Definitely check this place out, but go in the AM and go early if you don't want to wait.

Great lunch place when walking the Lakeshore shops. Veggie sandwich was delicious and I am in love with the rosemary potatos they serve on the side.

I have to upgrade this review after stopping here for a quick dinner a few times. Rolling Dunes offers grilled sandwiches with egg batter dipped bread. These are outstanding! The bread really makes the sandwich. The other ingredients are tasty as well (I really like the corned beef) but the tasty, almost french toast like, bread is great.

On a mission to order nothing but "specials" for a while. I went for the beef ravioli. It was nice and spicy. I didn't even know that I liked spicy ravioli, but apparently, I do. My skinny little pal got a chicken crepe with pesto (w salad & those marvelous potatoes) that tasted phenomenal when topped off with a little of the spicy ravioli sauce. I couldn't finish my meal, but my dear sweet toothpicky-framed friend cleaned off her entire plate. I don't know how she packed it all in, but she did. I'm committed to returning until I've sampled at least half of everything on the menu.

We have been to Rolling Dunes many times for dinner. Never, ever had a bad meal! Jessica is very friendly at the register and every time when she suggested something from the menu, it has been so tasty . All excellent! Jesus is cooking fabulous food!

I haven't had anything other than a burger here. That said, I think they might have the best burger in the area. The quality is excellent! It's a nice easygoing environment and a great place to go grab some lunch with your friends.

Meh. Totally unimpressed. I was really disappointed as this is within walking distance from my place. I've lived in the neighborhood for 5 years and finally gave 'Rollin Dunes' a shot. Not sure if it was a bad day or what, kinda hope so for their sake. I ordered the Roasted Eggplant, Pepper, Tomatoes and Mozzarella Sandwich with Pesto. I'm not entirely sure how you can go wrong with a sandwich full of some of my favorite ingredients, but they did. I think they actually forgot to put my order in because my food turned up about 5 minutes after my friend's did. I don't mind that so much, I know 'stuff' happens', nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. But I honestly couldn't believe they served me that sandwich!! I understand some sandwiches can turn out to be messy (slippery avocado, sauces and such) but this was ridiculous!! It was an absolute disaster on my plate. I know this sounds real petty but the truth is, I couldn't even pick up the damn thing up. Who chops tomatoes and peppers for a sandwich? Add my friend said her Denver Omelet tasted like it was made on a BBQ. Bad day?? You tell me. Doubt I'll head back.

Such a peaceful place to enjoy a nice meal. I love the beautiful mural of some faraway beach. The staff is friendly and unobtrusive. I enjoyed Pancakes w/ eggs and chicken apple sausage. The walnut butter should be packaged and sold it's so delicious! My date had a chicken sandwich and salad. He claimed it to be the best chicken sandwich he's ever had...lol...I didn't try it, but the bread looked mmm mmm good...

Went here for dinner. Prices were very low. I got the special: chicken guacamole burger, which was HUGE and came with delicious, crispy roasted potatoes w/rosemary AND a nice green salad. Plus sour cream on the side, which gets me every time. Atmosphere was really casual, you order first, then get a number and sit down and the food is brought out to you. Pasta, crepes, sandwhiches and salad make up the menu. When D's bro was in town, he went here for breakfast two days in a row cus he liked it so much! I will definitely be back.

Good food, nice atmosphere, great service. The salad I had tonight wasn't mind blowing, but it was good and service was fast and affordable. Thumbs up! We'll be back!

I despise this place! The food is ok, but the staff can be very unpleasant! You have to order your food first then find a seat. On a busy day you may not be able to find a seat and they will not allow you to have one person sit while the rest of the party orders. These are not small bite size plates...you need to sit! I do not recommend it and I will boycott this place for the rest of my life!

I have been to Rolling Dunes twice. The first time was a few years ago, when it was new. I don't remember having had a good or bad experience then, so I agreed to go back recently with a friend. Let me tell you, I regetted that decision almost immediately. This is the kind of place where you go to the counter, order your meal, have a seat, and they bring your food to you. Strangely, however, they put a line for the tip right on your credit card receipt before they've even had a chance to earn their tip. My friend ordered first. The lady at the counter was very short with her, and difficult to understand. While the lady rung her up, my friend tasted the lemonade she'd ordered, and told the lady that the lemonade had turned. The lady didn't understand the phrase and was rude to my friend about not understanding. Instead of saying, "I'm sorry, what do you mean by that?" she snarled, "What do you mean, it turned?" My friend explained that the lemonade had gone bad, and the lady had the gall to argue with her, claiming that she had made it herself earlier that afternoon. First, just because she made it earlier that afternoon doesn't mean that it couldn't have gone bad in the intervening hours, or that the lemons (or lemonade mix, more likely) couldn't have been bad already. Second, even if most other tasters would have found the lemonade acceptable, THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT. Instead of apologizing and trying to make it right by offering my friend an alternative beverage, the lady grudgingly gave my friend her $1.85 (or whatever) back. At this point, I was so flustered that I gave my order wrong, forgetting to ask the cook to hold the cheese in my scramble. I didn't realize my error until after I had sat down, and I was too afraid of the nasty lady behind the counter to change my order. When the food came, it was decent. It was served hot, which I suppose I appreciated, but it was on the overly salty side, and in any case, I already had a really sour taste in my mouth from the unbelievably rude service I'd had. In the end, I had lost most of my appetite before I was even served. I will never, ever go back to this place. EEEEEEKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!

PROS: You don't have to wait for a slow waiter to come take your order, there's anchor steam on tap, the cheeseburger is decent, the bread that comes with your dinner is freaking amazing and laced with crack rocks to make you crave more, and they have dessert crepes. mmmmm good.Cool decor in a cheap sort of way, and I like the vibe in this place when they play reggae over the speakers...open til 10 CONS: The pasta (and I admit I am a hard critic for Italian food) is mediocre at best--reminds me of the pasta they made at an unnamed overpriced pizza restaurant not named Zachary's on college avenue that I used to work for. This unnamed shithole made batch after batch of pasta in the same water, so by the end of the night, the pasta was so starchy it was god awful..that, and the sauce was less than artfully prepared. If the pasta evokes those memories, you know they went wrong somewhere.

I like this place. I like that they put curry aoli on the sandwiches and there is always a side of salad and homefries. Big menu and nice, open-air atmosphere with cool art to look at on the walls. Solid place to stroll into for lunch some saturday or sunday.

I'm gonna agree with another yelper on here - this is a good place to go for a nice, EASY brunch. Most of the time I end up coming here after a night out with friends for a hungover brunch. Compared to other brunch spots I've been to with lines out the door, I've never had to mess with that while I'm nursing a "hate the world" mentality. Just get in line, order your food and have it brought to you. Rare is the instance where I've had to wait for a table. I would recommend the Tin Tin Pan crepe - a savory crepe with some tofu, spinach, cheese, marinara (amongst other things), that most of the time I default to. It's always pretty solid. The Hillary sandwich is also delicious - grilled moist chicken, pesto, tomato. I add some avocado to mine, and you're pretty good to go. According to the server, it's one of the more popular ones. I can't say anything about the pancakes, but the last couple times I've gone, they have looked AMAZING, and I keep meaning to get one. Could be worth a check out.

My Mother and I came here after a doctor's appointment. My appointment was at 7:30 so we were able to eat breakfast after. It was OKAY... The one thing that bothered me was their tea. I'm a green tea drinker and the only green tea they had was this one that tasted like fruit juice.. a little weird for me. Anyways onto the food. I got this healthy veggie omelet that you could substitute egg whites for regular old eggs. I'm currently on this weight loss competition and it sucks b/c if it wasn't for that I would've gotten what my mother ordered. Anyways, it wasn't bad.. tasty.. it had all of my favorite veggies and was surprisingly filling.. My mother ordered the corn beef and hash... She said it was really good and it sure did look good. The corn beef was the good kind where you can see the chunks of corn beef. I will probably come back when I'm off this dang diet and can eat something more tasty... I'll also need to remember to bring my own tea bag.. I should have known better.

My baby and I come here for brunch every couple of weeks. They have a really affordable kids menu with yummy choices and she usually finishes her plate. They've got a big selection of crepes - my favorite?: the Chiroom (chicken, swiss, mushroom, and cream yum). The service is friendly and quick. Even the weekend crowds are handled efficiently. I like it too because every time we've been here, everything from the food to service has been consistent and good.

I went with my family on a rainy, Oakland day before driving back down to SoCal... My sister suggested it... When you walk in, the room has many tables in an open space. There is a mural on the wall of none other than some "rolling dunes.." The two large windows on each side of the door provide a lot of light into the dining area... The large menu behind the counter makes it easy to order, as there are clear descriptions of each item. I decided to order the 2 eggs, apple sausage and potatoes... coffee too, but too strong to finish. Otherwise, great breakfast! The friendly staff came to our table often to make sure we were comfortable and gave great customer service, despite not being a full service restaurant. We ordered out breakfast and picked our own table. We sat a while chatting as more people came in, happy to be there. Its clear its a popular place... a place I will definately come back to.

2.5 stars (2 for breakfast, 3 for lunch). Finally checked this place out last weekend, in the never-ending quest for something to eat on Lakeshore/Grand. Cuter and airier inside than it looks from outside. Had a small spinach salad with an add-on of grilled salmon - fresh and perfectly cooked. BF had seafood & mushroom fettuccine, which looked huge and creamy. Was so inspired that I returned a few days later, hopeful, for breakfast. Complete reversal. Overcooked eggs, super-sweet chicken sausage, homefries made of old, soft, translucent potatoes. Best part was the English muffin and the friendly counter staff.

My fiance can review this place better than me, but i want to add my opinion to the already 85 reviews. Coolest thing about the sandwiches here as others have stated, the monte christo style dipped sandwiches. if you are on a diet, which i am every other day, I don't recommend Rolling Dunes, unless it is one of your un-diet days. The sandwiches are filling, but oh so tasty and juicy. They also have pasta and salads which are pretty good. I recommend sharing a plate with someone whose company you enjoy, as the serving sizes are quite large. Crepes, I've stolen a bite from someone's plate, and they are satisfying in both savory and sweet styles. The decor consists of rotating art pieces and a few random non-rotating sculptures. Eclectic, i think that's the way to describe it. Take a walk around the lake or the neighborhood after you've eaten, you won't feel quite so guilty for the indulgence.

Rolling Dunes is somehow my comfort go to breakfast place. Rolling Dunes may as well be a chain with Crepevine; they are so similar. They have great egg dishes, large pancakes, and friendly service. Their house potatoes are ok, so I would not say their food overall is spectacular, but it always hits the spot if you are in the mood for savory or sweet crepes, scrambles and omelets, and other breakfast foods paired with salad or potatoes. Their pancakes and house potatoes are inconsistent in quality-some days the pancakes are really fluffy and other days they are bland and rubbery. Their house potatoes some days are cooked perfectly and other days tastes like they've been cooked and recooked. I still love coming here though!

Overall, the place is clean, and what gives it four stars is the very patient, friendly, and expedient service that accompanies the low price. Parking is always a problem but of course, what can you really expect from any store located on Lakeshore Blvd? I don't really understand the ambiance, but I don't think that plays a significant role in my review of the service or food. I usually call in my orders, and it's ready in under ten minutes. BIG plus. The presentation is pretty consistent; I've never gotten food that appeared over cooked. I think all of the fettuccine alfredo dishes are not all too great, because the alfredo sauce is skimped on, and it contained peas and carrots, which I don't think really goes well with an alfredo, which by the way, do not come with a side salad.

    (4)
  • Patrick L.

I had breakfast here twice and both times the food tasted great and the presentation was very clean. I don't like to nitpick service. That said, last time I had breakfast there, I very clearly ordered coffee and an orange juice. Just like that. "Coffee and an orange juice, please." I never got the juice so I went up to inquire. "Hi, I ordered an orange juice - "No you didn't," she immediately replied, shaking her head with a cool authoritativeness Obiwan Kenobi would have been proud of. I swear she even did a little hand wave. "Ok!" I replied and went back to my table immediately, afraid she was going to start yapping her trap about droids and shit, scaring the customers. I feel that the courteous, professional response would have gone something like this: "Orange juice? Sorry, must have missed that. Can I still get you one?" NOT whipping out the fuckin jedi mind trick on my ass.

If you are a vegetarian, DON'T GO HERE! I ordered a salad with tofu and they pan fried the tofu in a dirty pan with meat in it. DISGUSTING! At least they gave me my money back. Plus the bathrooms were a horror show.

This is our go-to place for dinner. It's quick, easy and comfortable. The prices are decent and it's a lot of food. We have the same thing basically every time. I have the Aloha Crepe (Ham, Pineapple and Cheese/Tomatoes) and David has the Tango Crepe plus chicken. Oh, they also have great mango iced tea and a couple beers on tap.

My gf and I recently came across this place as we walked down Lakeshore looking for a quick bite to eat. We definitely found exactly what we were looking for! The girl behind the counter was so nice and patient with us as we looked over the GIANT menu. We asked for a recommendation and she suggested the pasta bolognese, which we shared. We sat down and within a few minutes got a large salad with vinaigrette dressing (I had no idea it was included!). Shortly thereafter the past arrived. Both dishes were good and with drinks are bill was about $10! My only issue is with the decor. They have these weird statues and manicans everywhere and they're a bit creepy to me. I would suggest a little decor upgrade to match the great service and good food. I will definitely be back to try one of they're many crepes on they're menu.

I just picked up some friends from the airport, it's late, I had time to kill before picking up ANOTHER friend from the airport (who knew I could add "chauffeur" to my resume?) - and we were crusing around the Grand Ave/Lakeshore area of Oakland. We had intended on going to La Taza de Cafe (I wanted my friends to try it) but they had stopped serving dinner by 9:30pm and we were HANGRY. (Not "hungry", y'all. HANGRY. Get there.) I frantically texted a few East Bay Yelpers for ideas and was pointed in the direction of just about the only restaurant open on a Sunday evening in the area. Rolling Dunes...we couldn't tell what kind of food they had from the name, but apparently it was a creperie, and at this point, that was good enough for us. My dining companions had a sandwich and a crepe (beautifully presented, though one said the potatoes were too salty), I ordered the pasta bolognese which was so-so. Service was quick, and they didn't immediately kick us out at 10pm (when they closed). Three stars for being open late and having food that didn't gross me out.

I told myself it's not smart to not yelp a place before i go but I was already out and my bf was telling me to be a little more spontaneous and "you dont have to yelp eeeeverything! just try it out." Fine. So I did. What could the consequences be anyway? Um, a lot. Soggy, over-sauced crepes. Their one vegetarian option for sandwich was waaaaaaay too greasy, wtf? Clean...but that's about it. Service? Non-existent. So, you ask, what the consequences are for not yelping a place first? Apparently, you eat shit.

well, after reading a couple reviews, I had to add my two cents... I dig this place. I like the style of line up, order, get your number and find your table...sf style. reminiscent of the squat & gobble (lower haight) days... the selections of crepes, sandwiches, breakfast & lunch specials is terrific. the side potatoes are good, as are the salads. I am not a fan of their coffee so hit Peets beforehand and then come eat.

Relaxed setting for a great lunch. I haven't explored too much on their menu, but my favorite thus far would have to the the pastrami sandwich. It's simple and very juicy. I think it's just buttered soft bread, pastrami & possibly mayo. It comes along side with home fries and a light salad. Pretty reasonable for the price. I've also tried their sweet & savory crepes but their sandwich wins it for me!

I really like this place, nothing particularly special about it, just a good location, yummy food. The service is fast (order at the counter and they bring it to you). I had the mama mia crepe and mango ice tea...good size portions, I took half home for later. They also have really great art all around, open and airy. Very nice for a Saturday brunch. I will def. go back.

Win vs IHOP & Dennys. Low priced for breakfast/brunch type foods. You walk in, order your food off a menu; like McDonalds, grab a number and sit down. I love their Omelets, their Crepes are good too, and last time a bud got a roast chicken that seems overly hearty. Another win around the avenue.

Rolling Dunes was a great little brunch/breakfast place right in the center of Lakeshore village. The cashier and servers were both extremely cheerful and friendly. The atmosphere was also quite nice...big open windows, lots of light, perfect for people watching. Breakfast for two was about 20 bucks, but we left completely satisfied. Both of us got the Denver Omlette- ham, onion, cheese, pepper, and a few other goodies. The problem was that I ordered an egg white omlette with no cheese, and the other person ordered a regular omlette with no onion. I ended with cheese all over my egg white omlette and he got stuck with extra onion. The food ended up being so good that we just couldnt complain. Regardless, such a mistake at what I deemed a pricey breakfast place earns Rolling Dunes 3 stars.

The portions are large but unremarkable. I've only been here for brunch twice but both times I was pretty unimpressed. The first time, the coffee was weak and watery, the home fried potatoes were incredibly salty, the Cha Cha Cha crepes seemed sort of thrown together. The second time, the coffee was still weak and watery, the french toast was weirdly mushy but had a really tough crust - and the scrambled eggs had a startling chunk of shell as big as a nickel in them! I'm a vegetarian who eats dishes with eggs infrequently, so when I have them I very much like them to be done right! The staff seems nice enough but wouldn't let me substitute anything for the meat that was meant to come with my French toast - I suggested fruit but was denied. I asked my omnivorous sweetheart, while we were ordering, to take the meat that came with my meal, but it didn't look like they were going to let us do that, either. This just seems like a foolish policy to me. Plus, honestly, the mannequins really freak me out.

This is a cute place to have breakfast and lunch. I ordered the eggs blackstone and they were good. I forgot the name of the crepe my friend ordered but it had scallops in it.. it was even better! Iced mochas were just ok. Portions are plentiful. I love the paintings on the wall but not so much the mannequins. The lady who took our order was mean.

This place is a wonderful go-to for salads, crepes and sandwiches. I love the lemony-dressing on the greek salad, or the pile of bacon on the BLT! The feta is delicious on the Greco crepe and my husband loves the Cha Cha Cha. The Mango Iced Tea is awesome on a hot day. The staff is always delightfully friendly and the food is delivered fast. I often bring guests here who are picky eaters and they are always happy! It's also great for kids/babies!

This is becoming a must-go-to brunch spot when I come up to the Bay. I haven't had one bad meal here...in fact, everything I've ever ordered here has been relatively good. Their crepe selection is huge and ranges from basic to a bit more interesting, portions are huge, and prices are very reasonable (about $8 for a crepe that comes with a side salad and roasted potatoes). They also have a good selection of salads, sandwiches, breakfast items, and dessert. Seating can get difficult on weekends, but it's never been awful. It's in a nice part of Lakeshore and even though it's in Oakland, I get a whiff of NY every now and then while eating and facing the street and people walking about.

Great potatoes. I had crepes w/ pesto and chicken, quite yummy, which is saying a lot since I'm not a huge crepe fan. Had breakfast there once too, wasn't thrilled but was pretty good.

Meh. The food was decent but I'm not particularly interested in having to spend the first half of my hungover breakfast trying to wave down a "server" to get some damn water. I mean, not even a water refill. No water glasses at all. I finally got up to order a mimosa and ask for a water at the counter, and the woman waved me over to their water pitchers. Oh look, out of glasses. We asked a server where we could get another glass. She seriously looked at us, turned around as though she was going to get us one, then walked away without saying anything. Inneresting. It's not horrible or anything - you could just go there knowing full well you will not get anything resembling decent service and have a great old time. I just won't be joining you.

Let me just say that I could live off of crepes. I've been eating them since I was just a fetus and my Polish mother made them weekly. With that said... their crepes are GREAAAATTT! Especially since I like, crave them all the time and I'm a college student that's too lazy to cook. Oh and they serve them with ice cream. Rolling Dunes is perfect... kind of. The staff is always in their own little world, but I don't go there to chill with them. I go there for the food and I love their crepes and their pastas and their sandwiches and the house potatoes, even the Snapple tastes better there. I have to say though, I do not like the creepy manequins they'e got hanging around the place. Really random...

Ahh. It'll do in a pinch. Not great food. Greasy. No service. You pay for your food and take a number to your table. Some minutes later your food arrives. For basically average takeout food and service, they have really high prices. On the plus side, you don't have to tip... So I guess that saves money. Oh... don't be shy about getting refills on your water or coffee. Go up to the counter, the people are friendly enough... just don't wait at your table hoping they bring by a pot.... It ain't coming.

No nonsense place for breakfast - from the time you step to the counter to order your food to the time you sit down. There was a bit of a wait for our food but it wasn't too bad. Food tasted yummy - especially since I was so hungry! It was pleasantly not too crowded around 9 a.m. on Sunday and we found easy parking nearby.

If I was a millionaire, I'd buy the Rolling Dunes, build myself some loft space above the spot and make it my home. The old brick and open windows are originally what drew me in. Second thing. This place has breakfast on lock. I always get the greco, which is spinach, feta and olives between a crepe and it comes with perfectly seasoned potatoes and a salad. awesome decor, excellent food and interesting art? check and mate!

Most amazing Greek chicken salad I've ever had! The tangy lemon dressing is too perfect for words(sigh). It can get pretty busy since it's a favorite among the lake merritt locals but mostly during the weekend brunch time. Another favorite of mine is the eggs benedict. The potatoes are hit or miss...sometimes undercooked. But when good, they're superb! Omelettes vary...avocado bacon is good if you're into eating tons of bacon in each bite. The chorizo is decent. It doesn't taste very authentic either. The scallop one was super soggy and the scallops tasted like they came out of a can! French toast is always good. Pancakes are massive and have a delicious nutty type butter on them. The only other thing I remember having is the chicken Alfredo type pasta with veggies and that was amazing!

Ok, I have to say choosing to post this is a little hard because I love Rolling Dunes! I have loved their food, their employees and the atmosphere since I moved to Oakland 4 years ago. But, the last two times I've gone have not been great. Last week I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. She asked what kind of toast I wanted; I told her I want the home fries; she said there are none; I asked oh, you're out?; she said no. I was confused. She said that I can't have home fries. I asked why and she just got visibly upset. I told her I wasn't being argumentative, I just am confused because it is an egg dish and all egg dishes come w/home fries..Dead Air..So, I had to ask "is it because the main part of the dish is the corned beef?? " she said yes. WHEW!! It took all of that for her to simply say it is not considered an egg dish! WOW! Then my meal tasted funny. I didn't know what the taste was..it seemed like vinegar, but....I finished my meal w/my friend and went about my day. Then I went again today...did I tell you I love Rolling Dunes? I ordered an omelet w/spinach, tomatoes, feta cheese and mushrooms. As i get to the middle of the omelet, it tastes like they were soaking the vegetables in olive juice. I hate olives! And, no it did not taste like olive oil; the two are very different. I love olive oil. Anyway, as nicely as I could, I let the waitress know what was up and she agreed to have another omelet made. When she went back to the chef, I could hear him say repeatedly, 'she's still eating it, she's still eating it." No, i was eating the potatoes! She brought me a new one and the olive taste was more overpowering then before. She stated that she had watched him make it and that the vegetables are all kept separately and that nothing is soaking in olive juice. She was very polite. But, I know what I tasted and smelled. Very strange. I didn't ask for my money back simply because they did make another. But, what the heck is going on??? Something has changed. Either they don't know or they lied....I hope it's not the latter.

An Obama's fan for the Hillary's Sandwich!!! I like the sandwich, but not the potatoes...they tasted weird, can't really pinpoint what it is, just not good weird. Really fresh free cold water, I'll try the crepes the next time I am there since ya'll are raving about them.

I came here with a friend, who said that it was her favorite breakfast place but that it was kind of hit or miss. Luckily we came on a "hit" day, because it was super good. I had the french toast, and it was delicious... I would definetely come here again. They had good service, nice atmosphere, and clean tables. My only critique was that my mocha was tiny and kind of expensive, and also not that great. But the food was good. Besides the french toast I also had the applce sausage, which just thinking of it now is making me salivate. Yum.

A pretty solid choice for a quick above average breakfast. Good service and fast. The egg dishes taste the way they should. Their crepes are pretty decent as well. Overall, RD is the kind of restaurant you should visit if you're already nearby, but I don't think they have enough to convince me to make a trip from out of town.

I've visited this place many times over the years. It served as a convenient location to meet friends for brunch or dinner. The ambiance is nice, it's a neighborhood and local favorite. It's always crowded for breakfast/brunch during the weekends. The decor is clean, relatively simple with a bit of edge. I like the brick wall & the art work that's showcased inside. Whether I'm here for lunch or dinner, I usually order their Healthy Start breakfast. Each time it has been consistently cooked well -- the eggs never overcooked. My friends have tried other menu items and have enjoyed their meal. I've had their crepes a few times. On one occasion, I was disappointed with the ice cream that was served on the side. It had ice chips and wasn't fresh.

Bottomless coffee!!! I'm a fan of Good crepes + Unlimited Coffee The coffee nothing fancy, but it is decent. Moderately priced, crepes are $9-10. They also have a breakfast and sandwich menu, though I can't say I've tried either of those.

I have been coming to this place for years and it continues to get better with each visit. The food is extremely consistent, the service is stellar, and the prices are cheap. I've eaten at every crepe place in SF and Oakland and can confidently say this is the best. Never salty like many of the other crepe places, always pleasant, never disappointed. Thanks for the great addition to the Lake Merritt casual dining scene.

I just love this place! The Chicken Pasta with penne is outstanding as is the Hilary Sandwitch. YummYumm! I feel welcomed every time I go in, and the staff remember you, and at times you start where you left off the last time.. I would recomend this to any and everyone!

Even through we live in Crocker, we have never ventured to Rolling Dunes. Last Sunday, we decided to eat there after our golf lessons at Tilden. After a morning of golf, we were very hungry for a nice brunch. Rolling Dunes specializes in crepes, but they also have a great breakfast menu including pancakes, eggs, chicken-apple sausage, hash brown potatoes, etc. I had the french toast which was pretty good. My recommendation is to stick with the breakfast item as the lunch items are not the focus. The prices are reasonable and the service is good. Seating can be challenging on the weekends, but the staff will make every effort to help out. The choice seats are the two window tables that allw you to people watch.

Probably the best crepes I've had yet!! I've been dying to try this place out for a while now. I've had a $10 gift certificate in my wallet from two Christmases ago that I've won at a union meeting raffle, and I'm so happy that I actually used it. Came here on a Saturday and the place was packed! But we got our order quickly and the service wasn't so bad. The place is also eye pleasing as it has vaulted ceiling with a colorful mural and art work all around :)

I love having breakfast here. It's pretty low key. You can hang out here for hours and the staff is really nice. Sunday's can be kind of busy for breakfast but usually if you wait a few minutes a table will open up. One time I tried to call in an order but I had lost my voice and the girl couldn't understand me over the restaurant noise. So when I came in she obviously knew I was the one who called and we were able to communicate some how. So I had to sit and wait since I couldn't call it in. She gave me one of their teas that she said would help my throat, it was some kind of peppermint tea It was a great gesture and I ended up really liking their teas and I usually try to get one when I come in even though I am not really a tea drinker. I've never ventured into the crepes but I have had there sandwiches. They are pretty interesting - I think they dip them in an egg batter and fry them. Also, I've had pasta here which is pretty good.

2 1/2 stars, really... I ate here when this place opened a couple of years ago, and the service was so unfriendly and unhelpful that I swore I'd never go back. But my son and I went there today because we both felt like having a sandwich. He had a roast beef sandwich, and I opted for the chicken and cheese crepe. The food was pretty decent (the potatoes are really good, in fact), but it is also quite heavy. My son could only finish half his sandwich, and I feel like I don't need to eat again for about a week. The decor is, *ahem*, spacious (echo echo echo). You could fit a 727 in here. The too loud salsa music helps a little bit, but is kind of random - what is the theme of this place, anyhow?! The people working there are still amazingly unfriendly and clueless, but the food is worth the trip, if there isn't anything else that suits you on Lakeshore.

Love this place! Yes well as I mentioned before I like to EAT and I like to eat big portions, this place serves me well. Huge fresh salads, nice big hot crepes pretty yummy all around. Good options for meat free eaters. Coffee ain't bad either.

Rolling Dunes is our favorite brunch spot on Lakeshore Ave; they are also open late and have affordable dinners and snacks. The staff is usually quite friendly. For brunch they have a nice variety of traditional breakfasts (pancakes, omelettes, eggs, etc) and yummy crepes as well. They also have a daily dinner special or two in the evenings in addition to their standard fare. Prices here are reasonable--higher than greasy spoon but a bit lower than some shi-shi brunch places can be. Finally, they play not too loud salsa and merengue whenever I go there--nice music to eat to indeed.

OK casual atmosphere (nice exposed brick walls) and friendly staff. But the food is awful. We paid $25 for two omelletes and coffees. The omelletes were inedible: you know the kind, where they just throw some egg on the grill and it ends up as a crusty dried out shell. The filling for the omelletes was worse (we tried the chorizo ... more like a super heavy chile than normal chorizo ... and the "spicy" ... supposed to be green chiles and avocado, but was hard to spot many.) The potatoes tasted like someone had slipped and poured half a canister of salt on them. The table was dirty (dried out food from the night before). The coffee was tinny. We walked out and made breakfast at home ... waste of money and, worse, time.

This is actually 4 1/2 stars but that is only because I am really picky about that last star. I took my family of 5 to Rolling Dunes for lunch on a Thursday afternoon about 12:30 and was very impressed. I lived on Lakeshore for about 4 years and never made it to this place. I am not sure how long it has been there but they have done a VERY nice job with the place and I will definitely be back. Casual atmosphere, yet charming & cute environment, high ceilings, some local art on display, quick food service, EXCELLENT selection of breakfast, crepes, and pastas. Friendly and attentive servers, hard working and impressive chef crew at work cranking out nicely presented dishes. Check out the Moulin Rouge bathroom--very cool, even if a little cheesy! :) If this place was a full service restaurant, they could easily charge 25-50% more for their food. So if you can handle ordering at the counter and having your food brought to you a few minutes later, you will find that this place is a real bargain for the food and unhurried experience here. Definitely worth checking out.

Very interesting variety from pasta to crepes, breakfast, sandwiches, soup, everything! The food wasn't bad, it was actually pretty good. But the service, OH the service! Me: Do you have any tea? Cashier Lady: Lazily points at the selection Me: How about the green tea tropical? Cashier Lady: rolls eyes* is that it? Me: Uh...yeah unless you want me to knock your eyes straight. Well, I didn't actually say that last part. But I was thinking it!

A no frills place that gives places like Crepevine a run for their money because: 1. They're not nearly as crowded 2. They're less expensive 3. They serve a better side salad 4. Oh Mummy and Li'l Red will satisfy me every time.

Nice place with great ambiance. The process of ordering, paying, and seating is a little different from the traditional norm we are used to. It is not good or bad, but here is the process so you don't get lost. You walk up to the counter, look up at the wall with the menu items and description, and decide what you want, then order it and pay for it. They hand you a number on a stand. You pick a table on non busy days or they seat you on busy days (ie Weekends at brunch) and place your number on a stand on your table and they busy your food out to you. Okay so now you know the difference about the ordering process, onto the food.... The savory crepes are okay. It is a nice size portion if you are really hungry and put you into food coma if you eat it all. Well, at least I am in food coma, I can't really speak for you. The plates come with the savory crepe, salad, and potatoes. Personally, I love the dessert crepes. You can have them with whip cream or vanilla ice cream. Yes, the fat kid in me wants both, but I yield to getting only ice cream. There is a dessert display with cakes. It looks yummy and tempting. I only order 1 slice of cake from it once, but it was the BIGGEST let down ever. So now you have been warned... The food usually comes out quickly and is hot. The service is very hit or mess. Usually it is decent, but sometimes it is bad because glasses are not refilled and no one comes to check on you after your plates are bussed to you.

I love love this place.. This is a must for some Desert Crepes..I come here at least 2-3 times a month and If wasn't watching my DIET, I would be here daily...The sunset crepes is AWESOME. I usually get the almonds with the sunset instead of of the walnuts and ice cream. yummy..the price is decent and the atmosphere is fun.. Nice place to hang out with with friends and family.. I usually come here for just the desert crepes but their food is also good.

This is the type of place that makes me want to live in Oakland. Simple, fresh, inexpensive food, divided into these categories: breakfast, crepes and pasta. I had the prawn pasta - very simple and low fat. A reasonable sized serving, too. It's pretty casual - you order at the counter and stick a number on the table. I wouldn't recommend you bring a date here unless you've already seen each other naked.

They had great service. I like the format in which you place the order. The food comes out quickly. Great prices for the most bomb omelletes I've ever tasted. Great home fries...The service is perfect. Cheaper than Lynn and Lu's and better (based on the wonderful Greek Omellette).

I go here about once a week and have a BLT or pancakes and enjoyed every bite. I bring friends and family when I can and they enjoy their experience as well. What I really love is the staff knows what they are doing. They can handle the Sunday crowds with grace. I love that they enforce an order-before-you-sit rule -it makes Sunday brunch more civilized.

I think of this place like a pair of sturdy black flats that you wear everywhere. They're not glorious Jimmy Choos, but they're comfortable. And you get the occasional compliment. Even if you nobody said boo about them, you'd love your sturdy black flats. The food is good. It's not exceptional, but it's tasty enough. Although, I love, love, love their chicken pesto. Yum! When I want pesto this is my source. And the bread that they serve with their pasta deserves another yum. Hmm, may be their food is better than I thought. Try it. You'll like it. The servers and cashiers are always very nice. If you go there often enough they'll even remember your usual. Good folks.

I love their crepes! I've never had the sweet ones. I've usually ordered their "main meal" crepes. I can't remember the name of the last one, but it had chicken, artichokes & lots of cheese. What a great deal -- salad plus yummy roasted red potatoes plus this huge crepe! This is one of my favourite bargain brunch, lunch or even dinner place in the area.

Rolling Dunes is a brilliant cheap eats spot for breakfast fare, crepes (savory or sweet), sandwiches, salads, and soup. It's a great and reasonable week night dinner spot, when you want a $10 or less meal and you don't want to wait around forever to make it happen in a really annoying environment. And it's also a good weekend brunch spot. Many times I rock the salad/soup combo for $5.95 which yields a surprisingly generous portion. You can add tuna ($1) or chicken ($2) to any salad and it is well worth the extra GW's. All the dressings are tasty and the ingredients co-exist delightfully. If forced to choose a favorite, the green salad (with tuna) and the greek salad (with chicken) would tie. The savory crepes are good across the board and come with a side salad and potatoes. I had a tasty eggs benedict dish that made me very happy. Service is fast and friendly. On the flavor meter, the food here tends to lean towards the salty dimension, but I can take the flavor.

It was A-Ok. If you are looking for something to eat, but don't know what, this place gives you a bit of variety (crepes, pasta, sandwiches, etc.). They must have read the reviews because service was better and they were helpful; not as friendly, but helpful if you asked. I would go again, if this was the only place open after going to the movies

I just came here randomly one day walking around Lakeshore. I love the atmosphere, the paintings on the walls are very engaging. The food is good, I usually only come for the Spaghetti Bolognese. I have not been able to find a restaurant that serves this particular dish. It's my favorite off the menu, although every other time I've taken a friend there they tell me the food is not good. I once had a friend tell me his pasta tasted like soy sauce. I was surprised but it was true! It tasted terrible. Everything else on the menu is pretty good, the portions are perfect. A good place to have breakfast/lunch.

Rolling Dunes is one of my favorite brunch spots on a bright and sunny Saturday or Sunday morning. The entire vibe of this place is the epitome of everything that I love about the Lakeshore/Grand Ave area. Friendly faces, no pretention and just a general appreciation of life. The food here is reliably good. I generally stick with the more breakfasty dishes as that's my favorite meal of the day. I've always been pleased with everything that I've ordered. The food is well prepared, portions more than adequate and prices very reasonable. They also have good sweet and savory crepes. I'll have to try having dinner here as it's one of the few places that are open a little on the later side, but if it's anything like their breakfasts/brunches, then I'll have nothing to fear.

  • Kate W.

oh man, i finally had dinner here! i had the penne with arrabiatta sauce. it was seriously good. as good/better than i've had in many "authentic italian" restaurants. plus you get bread and salad with it...wheeeee!

  • Nikki c.

I've only had dinner here. You can call ahead and have it ready to go by the time you get there. The pesto is yummy. The Alfredo doesn't re-heat well, but that's Alfredo in general. I always get chicken and shrimp, I've never gotten beef. They tend to add a lot of peas to the pasta dishes, but I just eat around them. Ok, I still haven't tried the beef, but I did try the crepes, and they were yummy goodness. One day I need to try the breakfast. ETA: AVOID THE SEAFOOD AT ALL COSTS. I had to change my review from a 4 star to a 3 star because of an unfortunate incident involving me, the shrimp, several bathrooms and some pepto. I casually mentioned to a friend that I thought this might be the source, and she said that she had gotten sick from seafood here several times, and just didn't order it here anymore. You've been warned, order seafood at your own risk.....

I went there the other day by accident, and happy to have been there. I really enjoyed the murial, it gave the establishment an easy ambiance. I ordered the pesto chicken sandwich. It was not what I expected, but now I will expect that the next time I eat a pesto chicken sandwich anywhere. The bread was battered with an egg, almost like french toast. A fork an knife were needed to eat the sandwich. A salad came with the sandwich, and was equally as good. I gave it four stars because I need to go back have the same or better experience to give it a five star.

You know, this place has its heart in the right place. Nonetheless, it can still be hit or miss. This place has a few things going for it. It is open for all three meals every day without closing down in between meal times. This is good for those who eat lunch later or dinner earlier. The prices aren't too horrible considering where they are located (though could be a tad cheaper). If you have a diverse group that you are trying to please, there is a high chance that you will appease most tastes and pocketbooks with this location. Whether you want breakfast, a crepe, a sandwich, a salad, or a pasta, you can find it here. There is also a diverse beverage menu ranging from lattes, to Italian sodas, to mimosas. There is even a kid's menu. They also don't give you a "no outside beverages" death glare if you happen to walk in with something from Peet's (as I often do). It is a good place for breakfast because it is often not as busy as actual sit-down places (Lakeshore Cafe, Lynn and Lu's...) Why three stars? The food is hit or miss. My favorite item is the "Desert Rose" crepe. This is a sweet crepe with strawberries, nutella, and marscarpone cheese. It is very important that they bother to melt the cheese before making the crepe. If the crepe is lightly crispy with the fruit swimming in a rich pool of nutella and marscarpone, it is quite possibly one of the most divine crepe experiences. If they don't manage to melt down the cheese, and they have solid chunks of it in the crepe, it is a sensory overload of vile and profane measures. And how they fix the problem is hit or miss too. Sometimes they actually make a new crepe from scratch; this is what they should do. And sometimes they nuke it so that the cheese has its aqueous and oily phases seperated and the crepes taste and feel like rubber. Nasty!

For Eleven Bucks I got my meat fix, with the meaty spaghetti sauce, a delicious salad, and a lemonade. Eleven Bucks!!! Plus I get to look at their lovely selection of artistic mannequins. Awesome. Not amazing, but awesome.

Delish crepes (though a bit salty) in an airy, pleasant space. I loved the homefries and salad. The food was reasonably priced too.

Pretty run of the mill like the Lakeshore Cafe. If you want a crepe go here, omelet go there. Their pancakes and french toast are decent but nothing to write home about.

all the feel of LA 3rd street cafe/bakery without the pretentious LA lifestyle. the place has a very low key feel to it. nice place to catch brunch/lunch. the cobb salad was fresh and good. the tin pan crepe was just as good as the salad. the portions were on the large side. i would come back to try their breakfast menu.

rolling dunes is a pretty solid spot. breakfast is always good and portions are way bigger than you need. especially if you are me, and you are ordering crepes + chocolate + whipped cream + strawberries and trying to pretend that this is an appropriate breakfast. (it's totally not cos it's totally dessert. DUH.) they also have FRESH-SQUEEZED orange juice as opposed to gross orange juice, which is really key for a breakfast joint. the only thing that bothers me about this place is the INEXPLICABLE decor and totally weird use of mannequins all over the place.

Something at Rolling Dunes puts me at ease as soon as I walk in the door. I've been here with friends and family, but this is also one of the places where I feel really comfortable eating by myself. I always go for the pasta plates-- at less than $10 they are such a good deal and so yummy too. It comes with a fresh green salad and bread. They have a different pasta special every day of the week and I like the one that comes with cream and broccoli. The fennel one was a little too spicy for me. I like the fact that you order at a counter, but still get the food brought out to you. The staff are friendly, but not in-your-face. They leave you enough space to read your magazine, and don't make you feel awkward for being there alone. The quirky artwork and decor are the icing on the cake that make this a casual, but unique, neighborhood restaurant.

Just a 2 minute drive from our house, we went to this little place for breakfast a few times. The food is consistently good and they have a pretty big menu. We had eggs benedict, a few different crepes, and pancakes. Yum!

My gf and I first came here one sunny morning when Lakeshore Cafe was too crowded and we were craving some good breakfast food. We've pretty much repeated that scenario four or five times, although Rolling Dunes can get just as crowded on a nice weekend morning. Their omelettes and cinnamon french toast are especially good. Like others have said, the seating is a little confusing- stand in line and order first, then get seated. Great little homey-industrial-cafe vibe too!

My husband and I enjoy going to this place for lunch. Their food is priced well and decent. Their staff is nice and the service quick. The place is bright from all the light that comes in from the large windows and the walls are fun to look at. We took some friends here once and they didn't seem to like the desserts.

Easy, cheap, no-frills good food experience. You'll leave full and satisfied. Decor is charming and cozy. My only beef - they serve their coffee in small glass mugs, which I personally don't enjoy. I like my coffee in big ceramic mugs for maximizing my caffeine intake and for keepin' the heat in. I'll totally be back though. Easy Lakeshore location + easy tasty food = many future visits.

Really good food, great portions and prices. I wasn't too keen on the idea of how they grilled their sandwiches after dipping them in an egg batter. I asked if I could get it "fresh" and they did just that! The side salad was great! We went back a couple days later and I had one of the crepes, also very good! The dessert crepes are also tasty, we had the dessert rose! yummy! I wish i had grabbed a menu to take home..

So I had lunch there with a friend she had the daily soup which was clam chowder which didn't look to good very watery and had carrots...carrots in clam chowder? that was a first for us and also a side salad. I had a mama mia i think it was called one of the crepes, it comes with rosemary potatos and side salad. Her food came waaay before mine and they gave me the wrong order and when my food finally made it the crepe was burnt and wasnt even crunchy...werid huh? lol so this place is ok....i hated the fact that they kept asking for our condiments because it was that time of day to refill everything i guess......

I had the unfortunate pleasure of eating at Rolling Dunes Café on 03-09-10. I as well as a coworker became sick shortly after eating lunch. I had the Sausage Alfreddo and he had the Chicken Alfreddo. Something was differently wrong when we both started to experience sharp pains in our stomach. As we both spent a minimum of 30 minutes in the restroom, I returned and spent more time in the restroom vomiting. A while later I walked across the street to let the manager know what I had experienced. The manager had left for the day so I had no other choice but to speak with Rodrigo. He couldn't provide me a number to reach her other than the business number. He did call her at my request, but he made sure to step away so I would not hear the conversation. When Rodrigo came back he wanted to let me know he personally know's that's the milk was not bad. Within a few minutes Mary had called back to the business, I asked to speak with her and she said the same thing Rodrigo said, that she checks the milk/ sauces personally herself. I was extremely upset because no one accepted responsibility that it is possibly something could have happened from there end. She didn't offer an apology until I told her she should have some compassion for what just happened to me. She offered me a gift card to come back and have lunch. I asked her would she come back and eat at a restaurant when she got sick from and spent the last 45 minutes vomiting. I requested my money back and it was returned. I left and I will never eat there again!

the key word here is EASY. rolling dunes is an EASY, yummy place to grab brunch, lunch or dinner on lakeshore! i hear their egg-dipped sandwiches and crepes are tasty, but i tend towards the omelets. the servings are sizeable, and prices are fair. long, convenient hours, too!

I had a pasta dish, which came with warm bread and butter. The dishes were flavorful but a bit on the rich and milky side. As others have already noted, the service is okay. It wasn't stellar but it wasn't poor either. The name is the coolest part about the place along with the different artist exhibited at the cafe. What else, the interior is nice?! Okay, seriously, I'm stretching it now. All I can say is try it for yourself.

I won't eat there again. While I was having breakfast, one of the workers wheeled the very full nasty garbage cans THROUGH THE DINING AREA! I informed the person at the register that doing such a thing was a health code violation. "Eh", and a shoulder shrug was the response I got. Do not eat here unless you want to get sick.

nice and airy space for brunch. Portions are good and prices inexpensive. Had crepes and eggs and hashbrowns - food tasted fresh. Self service style makes it casual but food comes out fast. Good place for a bite before your Sunday stroll.

Went there and had an omelet with bacon and sausage added inside. What a bad idea. It made my stomach hurt from all the grease. The home fries and pancakes are good though. They're very quick though and the waitresses always give me what I want. Next time I go, I'll be trying the crepes.

One star for large portions at decent prices - if you're really hungry, opt for a pasta meal, which comes with warm bread and a small salad. One star for a wide variety of things to choose from - crepes, sandwiches, breakfast items, pasta, salads, etc. One star for fast, friendly service. I am particularly partial to the Hillary sandwich, the greek salad, and the pasta bolognese. When they have it, the eggplant beef soup is delicious. You will leave this place with a full stomach and a few bucks left in your wallet. Better than the Lakeshore Cafe.

i always get two things here, either the chicken cesar salad or the eggs benedict. it all depends on if i feel like lunch or breakfast food. everything i see people get always looks very good. they have a good selection of crepes and pasta dishes. your food always comes out fast too, which is a big big plus in my book!

I am continuing to refine my search for the best corned beef hash in the East Bay and Rolling Dunes ranks up there in the top. Wonderful preparation with a nice variety of spices, quality corned beef, roasted peppers, onions and well done potatoes. The poached eggs on top were also perfectly prepared. Service was great and they use Mclaughlin Coffee which is very good. I live in the neighborhood so this will definitely be my go to place when I have a hankering for hash and can avoid driving to several of the other wonderful East Bay diners also specializing in this delicacy.

a star for being open past 9pm in this neighborhood. a star for having a delicious curry chicken crepe that comes with a side salad AND house potatoes for a very reasonable price a star for having waaaay better potatoes than crepevine over on college, which was until recently my late night dinner back up. a star for prompt service and cheery decor minus one fat star for not doing a damn thing when the homeless dude wandered in the restaurant and started hassling me and boyfriend for a spare dollar while we were eating our dinner. now, if this was a take out counter or something, i wouldn't have minded so much. but we were paying decent money to sit down and have dinner in this restaurant-like establishment. i figure the prices would include assisting your diners when they are being loudly hassled by homeless drunks/crackheads while eating a meal in your cafe. seriously. my boyfriend had to put down his silverware and get rid of this guy himself. and the only thing the waitstaff had to say (although they certainly watched the whole scene) was "we're about to close. you need to finish up your meal and leave soon." i'd like to say i won't be back because the (lack of) friendly/helpful service sucked, but that curry crepe sure was delicious.

Resoundingly mediocre. Then again, I'm not a fan of crepes, so take it for what it's worth. The omelet I ordered was decent, no more, no less. The portion certainly wasn't as generous as some on this site have claimed. Service was, as stated by many others here, non-existent. Let's face it, good service is a big deal for me... particularly when it comes to breakfast! My overall impression of Rolling Dunes was that of a slightly more upscale cafeteria. I'm certainly not clamoring to go back anytime soon, and I'd probably only eat there again if it was the only breakfast place open on Lake Shore.

A great place for FAMILY BREAKFAST, LUNCH / EARLY LIGHT DINNER and great coffee too! Many of the employees of this place have been there for many years which is always a good sign in my opinion not only about my experience but about the owners disposition. They are always really really friendly to me and my two young daughters. The menu is interesting enough to set it far apart from standard breakfast menus (crepes, low-fat options, etc.), and they have the decency and intelligence to ask me if I need to split an entree between my two daughters since they are 4 and 5, and NEVER finish if they order their own plate...Many many restaurants frown upon the splitting scenario...which then makes me feel bad. The best time to go their is for breakfast, i must say, and lunch and dinner are not quite as great mostly due to menu selection but also a bit of quality issue there...old lettuce, bland sauces on pasta dishes. The crepes really do rock morning noon or night however, if you are into crepes. EXCELLENT FIVE STAR SERVICE!!

Rolling Dunes is a pretty neat place that I just came across, even though I've been living nearby for 2 years. They have really yummy Italian type food, with big portions. Each order comes with a little salad and this awesome bread. The bread is basically French Toast. I haven't had their crepes, but I'm sure they're good too.

This is great for what it is...a casual dining experience. Their specialty is the crepes...generous portions and nice service. Sort of pricey for what it is...about $10 per entree.

So I stopped in here to buy a quick lunch for some coworkers who were helping me move to the neighborhood. What a delight. The Twist crepe was AWESOME. Hands down one of the best crepes I've tasted (outside Paris, that is). The crepe itself was nice and light, and it was filled to perfection, super cheesy, flavorful, herby, with lots of spinach and mushrooms and grilled onions. I think they must have added a touch of herbed olive oil, as well. And the home style potatoes with sour cream and the vinaigrette salad that came with it were a perfect balance to the richness of the savory crepe. Portions are large, I had to take half home. I also tried a bite of my friend's sweet crepe, with nutella, strawberries and marscapone, and it was fantastic. The edges of the crepe were nice and crispy while the center was filled with ooey gooey goodness. Now that I'm in the neighborhood I will definitely be frequenting this place as I loved it. Can't wait to order to go after a long day at work!

been here twice in the last week and though previous visits when i ordered a breakfast it was not so memorable, these past two visits were and have to comment on them. :: what i ordered :: my first visit : carrot chowder w/ 1/2 veggie sandwich - the chowder was YUM and the veggie sandwich was good but not as memorable...very good food though for the price. second visit this week : i forget the name of the dish but it was an angel hair pasta with a nice creamy tomatoe based sauce w/ basil, fresh tomatoes, garlic...and some other veggie and this was very tasty...with a nice cold pint of fat tire ale it was a great meal for the price and will become more of a regular here because of theirr dinner menu..definitely looking forward to trying more of their pesca-veggie pastas. the only thing about this place that kind of weirds me out is the decor which i don't normally comment on about a place but here the ambience is just flat out confusing. urban brick wharehouse feel/ rustic french landscape painting/ circus manequinesque?....please, anyone makes sense of this please let me know.

I went here on a weekday morning what it was very very slow and the food still wasn't very good. I ordered some omlette thing with homefries on the side. I asked for the homefries well done and somehow that translated to "make them salty as fuck". I mean the food might have been fine otherwise but there was literally 2 or 3 times any reasonable amount of salt. I doubt ill go back

Very comfortable place. Nice food -- mostly interesting interpretations of crepes for dinner or for dessert. I do think the food quality has slipped a bit in the past few years, but it's pretty cheap, so who can complain too much? Also, the service is not the greatest ever, but they're not rude or ditzy, either. Overall, a pretty nice place to recover from a hangover on a sunny morning with a couple good friends. Just nothing amazing.

This is a nice spot for a weekend morning, casual brunch, or casual dinner. The crepes and eggs are good, the wait staff is friendly, and the owners are wonderful people. A very hospitable place that has gotten even better since the oddball protester out on the sidewalk departed. This is the perfect little neighborhood cafe. Quiet and friendly enough with good food. I'm glad they are there!

Rolling Dunes, to my mind, is a real winner. I think the reason it isn't more crowded is that people can't figure it out. There are actually too many choices, so that it's kinda confusing. I mean, I've stood there in line and watched people's mouths open as they go back and forth and try to figure out what they want. You order at the cashier, pay, and then they bring it out to you. The staff is very eager to please. And the crepes are wonderful combinations of yummy food at a really decent price.

Had the cha cha cha crepe or something like that and the bolognese pasta. I've had better crepes at crepevine, and I found myself diggin' out the inside. It was kinda dry. The pasta bolognese should've been called the smoked bbq pasta cause that's what it tasted like. I was also accompanied by three little people who are clients of mine. They ordered from the kids menu cause I guess they don't eat that much and all their dishes came with a little fruit salad which I picked at cause I'm not afraid of eating behind little people. It's not contagious.

The interior, the art, the recipes, everything about this place is crazy. Wackadoo. Unpredictable -- and not in a good way. My vegetable soup and ham and cheese sandwich should have been a straightforward delivery to my stomach. Surprise!! . The vegetable soup was inexplicably really spicy!! I don't have a problem with a spicy tortilla soup, but standard tomato-vegetable soup? Why? . The sandwich came on french toast -- with globs of bright yellow AMERICAN mustard. Eeew!!! If it weren't so cheap, I would have sent it back. This seems endemic to a larger identity crisis at work: generic European inspiration plus questionable American tastes. Hence the wacky interior: silver mannequins, plaster figurative sculptures, art nouveau poster prints, awful acrylic coffeehouse paintings. Too bad, because the space itself is beautiful: high ceilings, brickwork, sunlights. The two sunlights, by the way, are totally sabotaged by the placement of ceiling fans beneath them, which takes beautiful light and makes it flicker like dying florescent tubes. I walked away $7 shorter but full.

Try the sudden clan sandwich. It is a terrible name but it tastes good. They take french toast and make a panini-like sandwich. My particular favorite is the Slims with bacon, cheese, and avocado (ask them to hold the mayo, it is totally unnecessary in many ways). How can you go wrong? It comes with a superb side salad and some home frys. The only downer is that they don't carry non-fat milk so I have to suffer through a calorie-laden low-fat latte that is creamy and delicious. I also appreciate the sugar-free Italian soda selection. My husband is drawn there by the chocolate cake. It is one of the best I have ever had.

I went to Rolling Dunes for the first time this afternoon. I ordered a Hilary sandwich (grilled chicken, swiss, and pesto). I definitely wanted to order a crepe but when i saw that the sandwiches are made of sliced sourdough that's dipped in egg batter, I had to get the sandwich. The idea of a french toast-y type of sandwich was exciting. unfortunately, the bottom slice of the sandwich was all soggy. :( the side salad was yummy but the home fries tasted a bit like soap....

1st time here. The crepe was burnt inside-out (!!) and took way too long to arrive. Given that the East Bay has so many more crepe places, I may not return to give them a 2nd chance. The menu did look interesting though.

I have been several times and the food is always really good. Now they do try and play jedi mind tricks when it comes to drinks. So watch out for that. I only gave them 4 stars because their coffee tends to taste burnt.

This is an odd spot for me. I've never been comfortable with the whole premise of a breakfast spot with open seating. I have the same discomfort at crepevine. That feeling of being upset because you have to somehow find yourself a table, hold the table, figure out what you want, and order it from the front counter. Easy when there are more than one of you, and SOMEONE knows what they want. Not so easy when there is one or two, and NEITHER knows what they want. Even worse if the place is crowded. What if you don't get a table and they bring you your food? Do they hand you your food as you stand there? Just come up and take your miserable little numbered flag and leave you standing there with a handful of crepe? But to move on from that rant..... This place is unbelievably mediocre. The food is just UNSATISFYING to me. I am never full from one dish, so I end up ordering something else to compensate, then my bill is outrageous. The service is NEVER anything special. If you get a smile out of someone working there, you should publish a book about whatever it is that you do. Because you, my friend, are SPECIAL. These women don't give %100. They give whatever % is somewhat sufficient. As far as the food...It is very blah. Not much flavor. The potatoes are HORRIBLE! Styrofoam and dried rosemary. As big as the menu is, the selection of good food is MINIMAL. The dessert stuff is okay. But who wants that in the morning? And the decor of the place is just bizarre. Not sure what any of it has to do with rolling dunes. This is a very odd place. I'm not saying I've ever had a bad experience at this restaurant. But I have never come anywhere close to a good one.

is this restaurant owned by a guy named "Mike" ? I lived in Oakland in the 1970's and there was a restaurant in downtown (13th street?) that served the "Sudden Clan Sandwiches" ....Oliver Sudden, Amelia Sudden, etc .....I loved that place !

  • Stacey B.

This place is good. They have breakfast at night, which is good. They also have sandwiches, pasta, salad. Oh, yeah, and the main thing -- Crepes! It's one of those places where the menu is a board and you have to know what you want immediately, even though it takes an hour to read the board, though this one staff guy is very nice about not staring at you and will pretend to do something over by the edge until you are ready (if there's no one behind you). Strangely, I've never gotten a dessert crepe here, just dinner (although, really, the sweet ones would be a fine and filling meal if you ate two of them!). The food is good but a bit difficult to manage, logistically. (e.g. stuff falling out of the sandwich, side dish in the way so that you have to eat it first, that kind of thing). The lighting is a bit dim. It isn't crowded, and it's open later than most places in the neighborhood.

I love having this place in the neighborhood. I think the breakfasts and sandwiches are their strongest, though most stuff is good. It's convenient, the service is nice and it's freshly made food for a good value. I love brunch there, but it can also be a nice place to study in the middle of an afternoon or evening. My favorite menu items are the eggs blackstone, french toast, beet and spinach salad, the crepe with orange and brown sugar, and the coffee.

Wandering around the Lakeshore/Grand Avenue area after the Warriors' parade, Rolling Dunes looked like a nice place to pop in for a quick lunch, away from the heat outside. It was pretty full inside with post-parade revelers, but the line was non-existent and there were some free tables near the door, where a soft, cool, much-needed breeze was blowing. The menu here is pretty huge (quite literally, too, as it towers on the wall above and behind the register), with options ranging from breakfast like French toast and omelettes, to burgers and sandwiches, to crepes, pastas, and salads. I went with the penne bolognese and a mango iced tea, and after getting my order number I was free to seat myself. The food came fast and the service was friendly, and I was surprised that my pasta came with a small dinner roll. The bolognese was incredibly delicious, and unlike most places that skimp on the pasta, they were pretty generous here, and I was pleased to see a lot of mushrooms and chunks of tomato in my meat sauce. The mango iced tea was so refreshing, especially on a hot afternoon. My only problem here was the pricing: $18 and some change for pasta and an iced tea for lunch was pushing it, especially given that the wait staff merely brings you your food and never comes back around to check on you. Very good meal, a bit overpriced, but it's a nice treat if you're in the area and want good food fast. Worth stopping in overall, and a pleasant place to eat on a beautiful day.

Pro: I love the menu variety and they have a good amount of seating for weekends. I usually get the good morning crepe:eggs, cheese, onion. My boyfriend got the Angus sandwich which was tasty. Side salad and potatoes are always good. Con: I got the Tin Tin crepe today and would not recommend it unless they change how it's prepared. It's like an eggplant parmesan but the eggplant are just boiled cubes which is a weird consistency, grilled/baked would be better. There are also cubes of unflavored tofu which would be better baked/grilled/marinated...something. So it was pretty weird. The sauce was good.

Food is pretty good (so far have only tried the Greek and spinach salads, both with salmon, and eggs, potatoes and bacon breakfast). Enjoy the salads with salmon. Although not the BEST salmon I've had (a bit too much on the side of greasy) it is pretty tasty.

  • Thielson D.

Their side salad is REALLY good. Sometimes i even ask for an extra side of salad. Although i've never had anything here I didn't like I usually have come here only for breakfast or brunch time-ish never for dinner so I can't speak to that. Every single time for several years now I have gotten the same thing and that is the Tandoori Crepe with chicken. In fact i got it last night on a short trip to the east bay and it did not disappoint. Chicken and vegetables in a yellow curry sauce (I think tandoori is just the name) inside the crepe, combined with their side potatoes and salad is perfect. This place is sort of a staple on the ever-changing Lakeshore Ave. it has been there ever since I can remember.

Dee-freakin-lish. The servers are all hospitable, friendly and sweeter than a Swisher. The portions are huge and the pesto tasted fresher than a field of daisies. (Okay, I'm done with the analogies, I swear.) I used to stop into Da Dunes many moons ago with my faja for their pasta. I never realized the true highlight of this grove of goodness is the crepes! I opted for a savory option (the Twist, with spinach, onion, bell pep', jack cheese, and I added pesto) for my lunch and was very impressed. I left satisfied and smiling. Plus, the place definitely had patrons in it but it wasn't overly noisy or crowded. They seemed pretty organized, since I got my food within about 10 minutes after ordering. Definitely a good place to get brunch, lunch or dinner if you're on Lakeshore.

My husband and I love this little cafe. It has a friendly mom and pop feel. The menu is filled with home cooking inspired recipes. We tend to only have one day a week to spend together and like to make the Rolling Dunes a part of our routine once or twice a month. We love the breakfast menu! The eggs benidict is to die for. And do I have to say I love pancakes! They have a warm personal touch and it is convinietly close to the shipping experience that is the Oakland Lakeshore dostrict. You should take a moment to check them out!

I had never been here before. I was walking by with my daughter and decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. It was relaxing, service was good and food tasted great. If you're around this area and looking for a nice time and good breakfast I would recommend that you try this place.

One thing about this restaurant is the consistency of the food.. Over the last 10 or so years the food has always been good and taste the same. There is a lack of diversity here and has been that way for years.

Not bad. It's quite reminiscent of Crepevine. I wonder if they're owned by the same people? Although this particular restaurant has an "island" theme to it. And if you've never been to Crepevine, they both have wall length menus. You walk up and order and tables are pretty much first come, first served. The menu has pretty much all the norms for breakfast/brunch. They also have sandwiches and some other dishes too. It's not a bad place. Service is relatively quick. The atmosphere is lively. Personally, there are so many other breakfast spots around the East Bay that I don't think I'd come here unless I was invited by a bunch of friends who are making me go and I don't want to be THAT friend who doesn't want to. LOL. Would I recommend them? Yeah, sure. Why not.

I must say, this place rocks! The food is still very yummy and the overall service is great! Consuelo (sp?) is super friendly! She always greets you with a smile and even takes time to chat a minute or two while multi-tasking! Ask for her by name and she'll make sure that your visit makes you a fan of Rolling Dunes for years to come!

Perfect little place for breakfast or lunch right on the strip of Lakeshore. Upon entering I immediately noticed the large menu behind the cash registered. Within seconds my eyes lit up and my stomach was growling. Crepes, sandwiches, omelettes, what should I choose? And it is "gerrrrrr" Cinnamon French Toast w/ eggs and ham. After devouring my food with very little breathing between my stomach went from growling straight into a coma. I would recommend this place for breakfast and or lunch cause what I saw on the lunch meal was very appealing too.

Rolling Dunes is one of my "go tos" for brunch or lunch. Their menu is expansive and can be overwhelming at first glance. But, there is something for everyone, and it's great for a crowd with mixed palates. Every dish that I've had there is hearty and tasty!

I don't know what happened but this place has gone so far downhill. I've gotten 2 takeout orders recently and they screwed both up miserably. How do you forget salsa for a salsa omelette (twice)? How hard is it to put the right toast in the container? When I say no sour cream, why is there a huge pile of it on my potatoes? The bacon is burned, the toast is under-toasted. I mean, come on. I used to really like this place but now I am constantly disappointed by the bad service and low quality of the food. It's not cheap either. With so many other better options in the area, I will not be back.

Best service. Best food! I ordered the MAMAMIA Crepe and it was delicious to the last bite. The salad was PERFECT and the potatoes absolutely phenomenal!

Greatness. Good eggs benny, and awesome sandwiches with girly names. The sourdough bread they use for the Sammys is dipped in egg, so it's like eating deliciousness between two slices of French toast. Tasty little salad served complimentary with the sandwiches, as well as potatoes . I'm happy. I'm full.

Love the options for breakfast dishes! Parking and availability is way better than Crepevine. I usually order the Salsa omelette as a scramble or make my own. The bacon guacamole is also tasty but I prefer fresh avocado in scrambles than guacamole. The home potatoes are great - crispy and full of flavor. The pancakes are ok but i'd probably go to a pancake house if that's what I wanted for breakfast. They lack some fluff! For crepes I suggest the Cha, cha, cha or the Mama Mia. The sour cream is never watery and I love all of the vegetables they pack into their dishes. Again, great flavor and nice sized portions. I never leave hungry and usually need to take the left overs home.

Consistent, good service and good solid food. I've been on several occasions and it is going into my sunday brunch repertoire. Solid crepery with good food and nice big portions. The dining area is wide open and very well lit from the floor to celling windows at the front of the place. I happened this most recent trip after the oakland-lake merrit 5 k so the place was packed, but it didn't feel too crowded even with the post-even crush of people. I had their french toast, but I've also enjoyed their eggs and crepe dishes. I could not ask for more from a place like this. I will certianly be returining.

One of the few places open on New Year's Day, amen! Came in around 9AM to a welcoming employee and huge menu board. I ordered the crab omelette and Hubs ordered the Milano crepe and pumpkin spice latte. We paid, took our number and found a table. A short while later Hubs' plate was delivered...a few minutes later his coffee was delivered...then a few minutes after that mine arrived. It would be nice if meals were delivered at the same time. The omelette wasn't great, the crab tasted like it came out of a can (even though it is crab season) the veggies were too oily and the cheddar cheese clumps gave it a strong taste. I ate it since I was hungry but wouldn't recommend it. I liked the potatoes they weren't greasy and seasoned nicely. The latte was great and Hubs liked the crepe, potatoes and salad. Basically self serve since we weren't checked on and if we needed anything we would need to get up and ask or hunt it down. I like the exposed brick walls and decor. It has high ceilings, big windows and an open feel. There is a lot of seating. The omelette was $12, latte was around $5, and the crepe was around $10. the total was almost $29. The crepe and coffee were worth the price. Sadly, I can't say the same for the omelette.

Extremely slow, considering how simple my orders have been. And lackluster, overly simple food. Right now I'm eating the Verve, a veggie sandwich, and it's just bland. Why is this pesto so flavorless? I literally can't even taste it, even though this looks like a generous serving. My search for healthy delicious food on Lakeshore continues....

I recommend coming here for breakfast if you're near Lakeshore. Yesterday, sis and I decided to have a chill morning to enjoy a good hearty breakfast and some QT. She had chorizo omelette and I had pancakes, bacon and eggs. I love bacon and not many places have bacon like theirs. It's crispy and oh my...so tasty! Sad, they over cooked my eggs. I like mine over easy. The food is almost as good as Stacks in Campbell with the exception of the bacon. Regardless, I much prefer the ambience at Rolling Dunes even without table service. You order at the counter, take a number and someone will bring the food to your table.

Decor and design - 3.5 Stars Food 1.5 We tried a pastrami and swiss grilled, and a BLT w/ avocado. Meat mediocre, chewy, fatty, greasy. Both sandwiches had a dirty grill flavor as did the home fries. Greens were nice but too much vinaigrette so ask for it on the side, if you go. Maybe they make better breakfast items or pasta. Best item - a lemon bar cake -- although it was likely made from a mix, it was moist and tasty with a good glaze.

Pretty solid cafe. I chanced upon the location after I came in for some sort of caffeinated beverage at 8pm. Apparently all other nearby cafes don't believe in coffee after 6pm. I was feeling basic so I ordered a pumpkin spice latte and my friend got a hot cocoa. Both arrived super quick and were quite good. The prices are comparable to Starbucks (nextdoor). I didn't find anything too special about this cafe, except the wall art which was downright awesome! I may need to come back to try their crepes and reassess.

This is my go to place for a fast, casual breakfast or brunch! The staff is awesome, and the menu variety offers something for everyone! I love the huevos rancheros on the weekend menu! Most people don't walk far enough down Lakeshore to see this place (they stop at the Lakeshore Cafe instead, which is no where near as good as Rolling Dunes!) I love supporting this place, go see them, they do it right!

Honestly, I never really like these crepe places, they are always disappointing. This one was no different. Food quality was mediocre, service was spastic. Positives: It was fast, cheap and they had a happy hour with $3.50 beers. If I hadn't been trapped on Lakeshore with 45 minutes to eat and get to an appointment, I never would have tried it. It pains me to say this but I may have been better off with the Chipotle down the block.

In wanting something new, and wanting it on the day before thanksgiving, my boyfriend and I decided to try Rolling Dunes. I ordered the Aloha crepe and he ordered the Amore crepe. I must say, I was satisfied... with everything. The decor was fabulous, the music was well balanced and the staff was friendly. We ordered mimosas and the bartender is more thank likely always generous.

We have been coming to the Rolling Dunes on and off for many years. Their food and service has always been quite satisfactory. However, upon recent visits, the prices have risen to the point where we will not be coming back. $30 for 2 basic breakfasts and a cup of coffee is a just too high.

Excellent crepes and fresh ingredients used. I like crepes and quality with this place is consistently good. Lunch can be crowed on the weekend, but getting a table so far is not a problem...

Food was great. Had the tandoori crepes. Chicken cooked perfectly. Salad was awesome with the right flavors and mount of dressing. Potatoes were not frozen cooked but actually real potatoes cooked perfectly and seasoned just right. Wife had the burger and she said she would order it again. The only thing that didn't match was the cakes. The dessert cakes were good but not fresh.

My friend introduced me to this restaurant a few years ago. I occasionally go for a dessert crepe when I'm in the area. Most recently I tried the mama-mia crepe and it was very good. I think Rolling Dunes is my favorite restaurant for crepes.

This place excels at everything it sets out to do. You have a huge variety of great quality food items, with sides and salads, at a great price. The service is casual and effective. I feel like people rate it lower since you have to order at the counter. The staff is good about taking care of service and drinks and everything else. The portions are great and there are too many options to not be able to find something you like. And on top of all of that it's in a good area for a stroll. Also, they have beer on tap and wine/mimosas by the glass.

Came here today after getting my hair done at the blow dry bar across the street. I ordered the French toast, it was just okay. The last piece was super soggy, I took it back and the lady told me, "French Toast gets soggy bc you put syrup on it." I told her I don't pour syrup on my toast I dip it. Then she took it and got another slice for me, she brought it back and said that "French toast is soggy because it's dipped in egg batter." I informed her that this wasn't my first time eating French toast but thanks anyway lol. Another thing I didn't like was that when I first sat down the lady came and asked me if wanted water, I said yes, but she never brought me the water. When I went to take my French toast back I told her she never brought the water. She apologized and said she would give me some water. So I'm standing there waiting for the water and I ask her about it again, she got an attitude and pointed me to the water like I was supposed to get it myself. I kind of gave her a confused look and she went and got water for me. I just thought that was odd, bc why ask me if I want water if I have to get it myself. Overall, my experience there wasn't a good one, I won't be back and I more than likely won't tell people good things about the place. Actually someone asks me about a place to eat near the area, ill probably tell them not to go here.

I found this restaurant on-line, as I was searching for a restaurant I frequented over 30 years ago in Oakland that served a sandwich named "Oliver Sudden." Rolling Dunes offers a sandwich just like the one I remember, although the woman at the counter told me there was no connection to the original restaurant I was thinking of. The Oliver sandwich is delicious, although a bit expensive. The service is also *slow*.

I ordered the corn hash with eggs. Very bland. There's no seasoning in it whatsoever, I had to throw a bunch of ketchup, salt, pepper & tapatio to give it some taste. I don't know if they season their potatoes but it's very plain. I was disappointed I wanted to have a good fulfilling brunch but now I'm thinking where I should eat after. I would come back here and give it another shot tho.

I used to love this place, I only ever got one thing though. The chiroom crepe, but recently I've been trying other things and getting disappointed. Over priced and mediocre. The service sucks too. Lady taking our order knew nothing about the menu, who ever made my latte definitely doesn't know how to make a latte. And my boyfriends food was brought out 20 min before mine so while waiting for my food his food got cold. That's terrible service, I came here to eat with him. There's other places to eat.

Mama mia (chicken pesto crepe with tomatoes) was too oily and pesto was flavorless. They either didnt use much basil or just used old basil to make the pesto. The crepe part wasnt bad though. Also tried the bbq beef crepe..much better but still pretty oily. If I ever come back, will probably just try one of their breakfast omelets or get a dessert crepe. Pretty nice staff.

I really loved this place. Recommended by a friend who lives in Oakland. We met up for brunch and maaaan, it was delicious. I got the eggs Benedict with potatoes and fruit. Perfectly made and quick. We were there on a weekday around brunchtime... maybe around 10... and there was just a few other people there. Plenty of spaces to eat, inside or outside. Bring change-- metered street parking. I will definitely return. Seriously EVERYTHING on the menu looked like something I wanted in my tummy.

Rolling dunes have great tasting food with a laid back environment. HOWEVER, two stars due to finding files in to my Tabasco sauce, it leaves you with a huge concern of their sanitation habits. Honestly, I wasn't going to leave the review, since I figured it might have been an one time sanitation incident, which sadly isn't the case. Although I did not come across other reviews with insect issues, I did view other complaints such as: lipstick stains on a cup, dirty tables, etc. Things that were easily dismissable; however they all hold one thing in common which is sanitation. I called the health department, so hopefully they'll get their things together. Also the reason of this review is not to deter anyone from this restaurant, because they do have delicious food. I just want to warn people to be cautious of the food that they're eating, and if something doesn't look right look further into it, and say something. I unfortunately didn't, and ate the infested Tabasco sauce with my Greek omelet. I AM EXTREMELY DISGUSTED!!

Had to put one star to even put a review. I came about 2 months ago and ordered the mama mia which comes with house potatoes and salad. Mixed within the greens of the salad was a beetle. Yes, a beetle! I thought I was done with this place but I'm all about second chances. I came today for lunch with a friend and ordered the same thing (hold the salad). Soon as the plate came I spotted a hair on the crepe! Ugghhh needless to say, I'm never coming back.

I used to like this place, but after my last meal, I'm loathe to go back. It seems to have changed hands in recent years. I ordered (what was once my favorite dish) the angel hair pasta with prawns in marinara sauce. I could barely eat two prawns as they tasted bad and definitely not fresh. The pasta was stale and clumped together. I was there around 8 o'clock on a Friday night and the room was close to empty. I can see why.

If you're a fan of crepes, you'll love Rolling Dunes. It's a no frills type of place. Order up front, they bring it out to you. The Curry Crepe is pretty tasty. I ordered the Healthy Start (?) which consisted of eggs and other veggies. It was filling enough to last me a good while. It's a little bit like Crepevine but the prices are a little better and it has more of a home town feel to it.

There was a decent crowd, most tables were filled inside and they also have seating outside, which was full. We had two orders of the pancakes meets eggs, one with egg white and the other with sunny side up eggs. The third order was two eggs any style with bacon, which was also sunny side up eggs. The drinks came pretty fast, other than my friends coffee. By the amount of time it took for her to get her coffee, I assume preparation involved picking the coffee beans, pasteurizing the milk and harvesting the sugarcane in order to get an actual cup on the table. So, it must have been fresh. They brought out all three orders but instead of pancakes with the egg whites, it was french toast. When I told her that's not what was ordered, she goes back to the kitchen, pulls the pancakes off the plate and brings me back just the egg whites and bacon. I told her I would prefer to have the whole meal together, so I will just wait for the pancakes. None of us liked our breakfast. My bacon was burnt, but my friends appeared to be ok. The home fries are totally bland, other than a ton of rosemary. The pancakes had no flavor whatsoever, were very dense and then they put this "pecan butter", which sounds good in theory but is greatly lacking in application. The two orders of sunny side up eggs were both overcooked, the yolks were almost completely solid. In terms of the service, everyone that we came into contact with was very very friendly and helpful. Each of us took only a couple of bites, and someone came by and asked "Why aren't you all eating? Do you not like the food?". We all just responded that we were fine. There was no need to say anything, because we didn't want anything else from there and there were so many issues with the food that there really wasn't anything to be said. As I said, everyone was friendly, so it was a shame that the food was so bad, because I won't be eating here again.

rolling dunes caught my eye for a cuopof joe. (2.1). it's a breakfast place with a diverse menu. not having a legit parking space. didn't check out the menu. the joe was just ok. -smooth, no robust body, no character. service above average.

Okay, it's been four years, and I haven't found anything strange in my crepes other than deliciousness. I like the laid back feel as well as the breakfast and lunch basics this place has to offer. It's back on my brunch rotation.

Decided to drop in...surprised haven't been here before. Love that they're open late unlike the cafe down the street. Many food options for breakfast, lunch, dinner and desserts. You pay for your food first and then sit. The service here is impeccable. People are extremely friendly. Special today was purchase an entree and get the other entree half off! What a bonus! Will definitely be back!

3.5 stars Just started going to this place more regularly lately (for breakfast). The staff is super friendly. You can generally get a seat. There is a wide selection of food -- egg dishes, pancakes and waffles, crepes, lunch items -- and a case of dessert I have yet you avail myself of. A lot of people bring their kids, so definitely one I've got on my mental list of "places we can still go once we have kids." I am basic, I tend to order the bacon and guac omelet. Sometimes I go wild and get pancakes. Solid breakfast food, good prices, nice staff. Perfect weekend breakfast joint to me!

Been here a few times in the last 2 years. The food used to be decent, but the last time I came was just for a dessert crepe - the crepe was cold and dried out. I understand some creperies will make a few extra crepes to save time, but crepes taste old pretty fast, so you have to use them pretty quickly. They really shouldn't take the risk with a dessert crepe (usually the last thing you eat, or in my case, the only thing I ate) because it made for a very negative experience. The staff are all pretty nice.

It is a great little brunch spot! I like the fact that the cafe has vegetarian options and mimosas. These two gems make my heart flutter. The breakfast is pretty good and reasonably priced. I really like the potatoes, they are tasty. I have only had the breakfast items, so I cannot weigh in on any other food items. Parking isn't the greatest, but it depends on what time of day you roll through. The servers are friendly, we have never had a rude server.

Sometimes I get stuck here because I need somewhere that's a quick meal. But most times I'm disappointed. The prices are a rip off for what you get. Drop the prices and maybe I wouldn't be reminded of how annoyed I wind up feeling once the food arrives. And I'm a laid back customer! It's hard to pull a complaint out of me but this place charges too much for too little. I'm still hungry but paid 13 to be fed. Lame. I think the convenience and space is the main reason ppl bother coming here.

I have a crepe addiction. So even amidst Rolling Dune's daunting menu of brunchy indulgences like the crab omelet and the hollandaise-smothered bennie options, I opted for a savory crepe. This, my friends, is a mistake not to be repeated. I thought it was hard to mess-up crepes, but Rolling Dunes managed to do it for me. It was obvious that my crepe was not the made-to-order, hot off the grill delicacy that merits the title "crepe". They appeared to be pre-cooked rounds (judging by the tough, cold crust), merely filled with whatever ingredients the order called for. I use the term "filled" as opposed to "stuffed" because my Greek crepe was mostly dough and little stuffing. The menu is suspiciously similar to Crepevine's - but sadly doesn't come close quality-wise. I'm giving an extra star for the quick and friendly service, always appreciated on Sunday mornings. After my tragic crepe experience I can't say I'm itching to go back, but if I do it's going to be eggs bennie all the way. Fingers crossed that they're not pre-made.

This place looked awesome. The inside is really cool with brick walls and art everywhere but.... The food literally tastes like left overs. Super disappointing. I got the Cobb salad and my girlfriend got the blt. The tomatoes in my salad were definitely old and had a horrible mushy texture. The avocado tasted off and was mushy. Pieces of my salad were brown and the bacon was all fatty pieces. My gf's BLT was soggy just tasted like mush in our mouths. The potatoes it came with tasted like they were cooked a few days ago and served again.

The food is delicious and the customer service is perfect! I have tried just about everything on the menu and everything tastes good. The crepes, sandwiches, soups, salads and pastas are yummy--there are options for everyone. I do not live in Oakland anymore. However, I make it a point to visit this spot when I am in Oakland. I had dinner there this evening with my family--it was my father in laws birthday. As soon as the staff found out it was my father in laws birthday, one of the ladies on staff asked, "what is your father's favorite dessert--on the house." After everyone cleaned their plates (literally each one of us ate everything on our plate), the staff helped us sing Happy Birthday to my father in law. They brought over a slice of Red Velvet cake with a candle. It was a nice evening! I highly recommend this place!

Very good food, very reasonable prices. Customer service is also great, I could be a little picky when it comes to certain things and they take my strange orders in stride and provide a great result. I come here a few times a month and will continue to do so.

Went here recently for brunch, and they have the best eggs benedictions hands down. Other places just don't compare! As always, potatoes were good, and enjoyed the free coffee refills. Bathroom might need a little help, but other than that I still love this place.

Very cute small diner style crepe place. I enjoyed what I had - some kind of Mexican inspired crepe with potatoes and salad - tasty and fresh. The service was a bit lacking and there were some tables in need of cleaning.

Well lets just say I come here when I have to stay local, at least 5 minutes from the crib. Otherwise Rolling Dunes would never be my first choice for breakfast/ brunch. However I do have a favorite here and it is the crab omelette. It's an omelette stuffed with crab meat with tomatoes and red onions. Hold the cheese please. They definitely do not skimp on the crab meat which garnered 3-stars. I must say, it's pretty darn good for a local hang. Unfortunately I can't vouch for the rest of the menu items. Service however is always pleasant. You can take that to the bank.

Great place for Crapes! My favorite is the Mama Mia! It's a combo of a mini green salad, potatoes wedges and the crape is chicken wrapped in a tasty crape. Oh and don't forget desert and guess.. I had the Tin tin: chocolate, power sugar, ice cream with a crape. Can't get enough. Easy, relaxing environment. A great place for a meal of one or catching up with an old friend. You order at the register, sit down and get served.

The menu sounds like Monte Christo Sandwich Heaven. It isn't. The service us okay, nothing amazing over the top. LUNCH I got the Oliver which comes with house potatoes and a vinegarette salad. The potatoes were made in the AM but were tasty. The salad was just mixed salad green with a vinaigrette. The sandwich. Fine. But, soggy. And there wasn't any taste to the egg dip at all. Perhaps done jam or a tad of powered sugar would have helped. But it was sadly disappointed for $12.75. (I had an additional Italian soda, eh...nothin in' special). So that's it, nothing special.

Rolling Dunes is a place I frequent often for brunch. To summarize my visits here, I'd say it's on the expensive side for what they serve you. They are known for their crepes, savory or sweet, and I personally enjoy their sweet crepes over their savory ones. Their savory crepes are served with a lightly dressed salad and potatoes with sour cream. Big portions, guaranteed to get you stuffed. Food is not bad, I would say average. Nice place for breakfast or lunch, but burns a hole in your wallet if you continuously come here.

2 stars because the staff are nice- Are you ppl serious? I got the spinach omelette with jack cheese-hesitant already. The homefries tasted like they were boiled for hours and then thrown on high heat for another 15. The spinach tasted like it was canned and made me sick to my stomach. For 10 bucks-Never again!

this use to be V and I's spot after our late night yoga classes, mostly because by the time we got out of class, this was one of the few places opened. service is always really pleasant, given that it's late and i'm sure all the workers are ready to go home and rest. i always get the same chicken sandwich, the hilary and V usually gets an order of the italian sausage fettuccine. by no means, is it the best meal we've ever eaten, but it does it's job to quench the post workout hunger. sometimes we walk by during the weekend brunch hours and it's always packed, so they must be doing something right.

This place is tight because the counter person talked shit to me because I brought in outside coffee. That's tight because assholes do stuff like that. Sometimes I do asshole stuff. The Cobb salad was 100% salad and the clam chowder was 100% chowder. My girlfriend had a crepe. She thought it was tight. She ate the whole thing and she NEVER eats the whole thing, unlike me, a fat person. I eat all my food all the time. We won't be going to the Crepevine in rockridge anymore, that place serves horse poison compared to this place.

Plenty of options for breakfast and lunch foods! Stopped here over the weekend for brunch and I had the Twist Crepe, while my boyfriend had the Bon Voyage...both were very good. The Twist was very fresh and light tasting, filled with mushrooms, spinach, bell peppers and cheeses. The place was cute, and there was indoor and outdoor seating, which is always nice, especially when it's a nice day like it was on Sunday. Would definitely go back and recommend this place to friends.

Came here for Sunday brunch when my usual spot, the Lakeshore Cafe, had a very long wait. I wish they had table service, but instead you have to order at the counter and then they bring you your food. Wide variety of options which was nice. I got a dessert crepe and my girlfriend got pancakes. My crepe was good but the portion size was a little small. She said the pancakes were so-so, mostly because they lacked flavor. I was pleased that the OJ in my mimosa had some pulp, but was disappointed that for $5 I got the same amount I would have gotten at Lakeshore for $2. I was also a little grossed out by the lipstick on my mimosa glass, and frustrated that they didn't then offer to take it off the bill. My latte was tasty. Meal for two (including those beverages) was $26. I would have liked our food to come with some bread or fruit or something for that price, but you get strictly what you order. I'd come back, but probably only as a second choice. Minus one for ordering at the counter and the small portions (/lack of bread or fruit), and minus one for the lipstick on my glass.

I've been going to Rolling Dunes since I was in elementary school and I am now in my early 20's. I remember my dad used to take my sister and I for french toast on the weekends before he passed away. Rolling Dunes has a big ol' soft spot in my heart & I continue to get my fave...Cobb Salad...monthly (at least). Although the wait staff and chefs have changed over the years, there are still a few friendly "regulars". I enjoy the laid back, order-first environment. The ambiance is amazing! Enjoy a crepe, salad, or breakfast any hour of the day.

I love this place. It reminds me of a place I frequented in my university years. Nostalgia aside everything I've tried here is delicious. First occasion I tried the Hawaiian crepe, second occasion the Cobb salad. Both were made fresh and absolutely amazing. The only thing that makes me sad is that I have to choose one item from the menu. Anytime I'm in town I'll be sure to stop by. P.S. The lemonade/iced tea is amazing and they serve beer and mimosas if you happen to want a kick with your meal.

This place is consistent and it hasn't failed me once, so Im definitely a fan. Their menu has a nice selection and I'm always a fan of the crepes. Depending on what you are in the mood for, they pretty much have it covered. Breakfast, lunch, salads, burgers, crepes (savory and sweet), and pastries. Their tables are a little weird considering most of them are for 2, but more often than not, people just scoot another chair in to accomodate a 3rd. Outside seating on Lakeshore is nice, but it would be better if they were able to outfit it with some umbrellas, but the sidewalk is kinda cramped. Overall: Yes. This place is a go.

This place is sucks I went in and got a sandwich the meat tasted weird not good at all, I asked to exchange it, they got upset and the waitress come up to me and tried to give a lecture on how the food now is going to be thrown away and how in the future I should know what to order. I told her that the problem was the food quality not knowing what to order.she gave me a bad look, And brought something else that tasted almost as bad. I ate half of it just because I was starving and left. I do not recommend this place. Other items on the menu that don't contain meat might be OK but I wouldn't recommend this place specially for the service.

Rolling Dunes is okay. In the past, we've stopped by Rolling Dunes for breakfast on the way to the airport at the end of a trip visiting my parents. And, we've always though the food was okay. Now that we've moved to the area, we hadn't gotten a chance to try Rolling Dunes until this past weekend. Again, we weren't blown away by our experience. They are dog-friendly, which is one of the main reasons we decided to have lunch there. We snagged a table outside. The tables outside that weren't occupied were all dirty, so we had to ask the waitstaff to clean up the tables for us. After placing our order inside and getting a number, we sat outside waiting for our food. We didn't have to wait very long for the food. Unfortunately, they forgot to bring the side of bacon that we had specially ordered for our dog. When we asked the waitress if she could look into it, she returned a bit later with bacon - which looked totally overdone and crispy and not quite that appetizing. Thankfully, Teddy, our dog didn't mind. My fiance and I ordered the following: the Hillary sandwich (grilled chicken, swiss, and pesto), the black bean soup, and the greek salad. The food was okay. Everyone who walked by the restaurant seemed to rave about the food though and how the restaurant was their favorite brunch place. Maybe we're ordering the wrong thing?

Had a good experience even though one of the entrees was below par. The chili has way too much fat, which was 'swimming' near the top. However, the staff was accommodating and offered to take that item off the bill. All in all, I will go back as they recognized their mistake and manned-up to it. We've come here a lot and will continue to go back. Excellent service.

Service was very friendly, food was awful. The friendly service is the only reason I'm giving two stars. The tuna on the tuna salad looked and smelled like canned tuna. The shrimp on my plate was dirty and full of shrimp-poop as it had not been de-veined. The pasta was runny and did not taste very good. The chicken on their club was cooked well but very bland. Overall, the experience left much to be desired and I will not be returning. With so many things on their menu, I think they could cut out some items. If you can't make a dish well, you shouldn't put it on the menu.

Daughter and I went here for lunch, she'd seen this place and wanted to go since it's close to her work. We both opted for the "Sophia" sandwich minus the swiss. It's a humongo sandwich with tuna, swiss and tomato. We decided to substitute with jack and it came with potatoes and a small salad. And they dip the bread in egg mixture and brown it. WoW this thing was massive and delicious. I liked that the tuna was just moist enough without too much mayo. I did have to eat the tuna out of the second half, because I just couldn't eat all the bread. I ordered a lemonade which I usually love, but I found theirs too sweet. Maybe it's just me ( I do love sugar) but it was a bit over the top. The service was friendly as you order at the counter, find a seat with a number for your table and they bring you your food. Nice lunch and looks like breakfast/brunch place too.

Two words: SUNDAY BRUNCH! I love to brunch. I love to lunch. I love to scrunch. I love to munch...well on chips anyway. ;) There's nothing I enjoy more...than eating something really hearty and stomach-coating on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Cups of coffee, eggs, bacon, toast, home-fries...I can do that for hours. Rolling Dunes is really good, especially if you want to try different brunch places in the Lake Merritt/Piedmont area. I practice yoga around the corner, so this area is really special to me. I'm not a french toast fan, but I had a bite of it...and it was delicious. That I had maybe 4 more bites, just to make sure, the first bite wasn't a fluke.

I had the pancakes w eggs. Pancakes were really tasty! Food came at a normal rate, cost is pretty average for the area. The only problem I had was w one waitress, blondeish, she had allot of attitude, was rude and just a bitch. I had my 1yo daughter w me & this waitress nearly ran her over twice!! WTF! I don't think I will return due to this & don't recommend this place for small children.

Cool looking place. Has a chill down to earth vibe. Staff is super nice and very fast service. Food was alright though. I had a grilled chicken sandwich; it was okay. It came with potatoes and a salad. Would love to come back and try other items on the menu sometime, more specifically the breakfast choices.

One of the worst meals I've had in a long time. I think cardboard would have been tastier than the potatoes. They were cold, droopy and sad looking; not a crispy potato on the plate. The Hollondaise Sauce was also tasteless, and cold. I mean really tasteless. How do you make country potatoes without any flavor - not even salty or peppery? And, I think I might be able to make better Hollondaise than whatever canned brand they are using. The service wasn't any better. We ordered, paid, and sat down, but never received any water, coffee, creamer, or the other drinks we ordered. I had to ask for the table to be cleaned, and for napkins, and flatware to eat. We had to ask for everything - like each individual thing we needed to eat. But the absolute worst part of this disaster - the STALE red velvet cake they gave us. It was inedible. The cake was so dry it crumbled. The outside layer (yeah) of the frosting was hard. Frosting shouldn't have a hard shell - it should be the same consistency throughout. But wait, there's more! The slice was from a round two-layer style cake with frosting inbetween - but the slice was so old that the middle layer of frosting was bleeding into the red cake making it soggy and brown colored. It was gross!! And the place was filthy too boot. The tables were sticky. The condiment stand on our table (and at the surrounding tables) had gooey and crusty ketchup, mustard, syrup and who knows what else on them. They were gross. This place is giving me the dry heaves just thinking about it. Bleh

Crepes are the highlight here, though would be willing to try the other fare as it looked great. Fun casual setting, I liked the decor and functional set-up. Staff was friendly and helpful in dealing with kids. The Mamma Mia crepe was a little bland, but seemed fresh and healthy. A little hot sauce did wonders. Italian sodas and kid meals were a bargain. I like the crowd, it felt cosmopolitan and diverse.

This place is very cute, cozy, and inviting. I ordered the Cha, Cha, Cha crepe - artichoke hearts, olives, cheese, spinach, marinara. Sounded amazing but when I tried it I was blown away of how incredibly salty it was. I asked the waitress if it was supposed to be THAT salty, tasted like they poured a pound of salt in the crepe. She told me that it's supposed to be that way and that people usually don't like it because they don't expect it to be that salty. Great....a forewarning would have been nice. However, she offered to prepare it again without the marinara or whatever made it that salty because I couldn't even bare to chew the rest.

Checked this place out based on recommendations from a co-worker. I went on a Sunday morning for brunch and I was not disappointed. I had a bacon/avocado omelet (not too sure about the formal name) that came with toast and side of potatoes. It was very filling and I loved the potatoes. I like the fact that you get a table reserved before standing in line. Service is sometimes limited just because there are not enough people to help with the orders/busing tables, so you may need to get your own water. Other than that I am definitely going back to try another item from their extensive menu!

This place is gross and overpriced for the quality of food I got. I ordered the Mediterranean Omelette and it had absolutely no taste to it. They briefly sautéed some onion, greens and tomatoes and lazily folded it in the egg. There is no pride or level of quality that is even acceptable and it comes across in the taste. This place is like a Crepevine knock-off but much worse. Steer clear of this place.

There are some awesome brunch spots on this block! I think this one is my favorite because I love me some savory crepes! Today I had the Amore Crepe - Salmon, Spinach and Cheese with a side salad and homestyle potatoes, DELISH! I was honestly ready for some scrawny sliced up lox, but there were some hearty pieces of grilled salmon filet in there! Totally hit the spot and it was washed down with refreshing Iced Mango Tea. Fiancee had French Toast and Ham. His plate was just as yummy and the fresh squeezed OJ was perfect. Excellent, fast service. You order, pay and find a seat. Food is brought out to you promptly with attentive staff around to refill your drinks and take a way your plates. Loved the artsy ambiance, great pieces adorned the walls.

I went to get brunch with a few friends on New Year's Day and we had a very bad experience. Normally I would give a benefit of the doubt since it is a holiday and there was a decent crowd, but the food for all of us was pretty unacceptable. I got the French toast with eggs, and a latte. First, the eggs were cooked poorly, and they actually had a taste of liquid soap. I think they didn't clean their grill/pan properly. The coffee did not taste good. It was as though it was burnt. The sausage was nothing more than a single sausage that was in to fourths and was charred on one side and uncooked on the other. The other people in the party had similar experiences with their food. This is my second time at this place and after a mediocre first experience and a disappointing second I think that I won't go back again.

Rolling Dunes is a great place to get great food and hang with friends while sipping on a mimosa or glass of wine. The menu is filled with so many options from breakfast to dinner delights that it might take you 10 minutes to decide, but when you do, it will be well worth it. And if you are looking for a great late-brunch spot, this is where to go. On Sunday, they open up at 3pm and offer fresh mimosas. I highly recommend this place because the food is DELICIOUS and the staff is very friendly.

Trying to address an on going issue at Rolling Dunes. 1st . . . let me say the food and the service is and has always been GREAT ! However, they need to learn some table manners ! Every time we have eaten there, for some reason, they like to disturb your table space with "CONSTANT INTERRUPTIONS REFILLING CONDIMENTS" while your eating ?? This takes place of course at EVERYONES table. It is great that they are trying to stay on top of everything BUT leaning over my table and taking things away or replacing by dragging them mid-air across my plate/food, is just not sanitary OR respectful of my dining experience. It is very interruptive ! PLEASE think of a better system to ensure your condiments / salt & pepper / sugar / sweet-n-ers are filled POST or PRIOR to people eating at their respective tables. Maybe a stocked shelf in the back would work ie: pull new FILLED CONDIMENTS from that area and NOT from peoples tables while they are eating OR manage them issue when someone is not sitting there currently. This would make for a much better and MORE SANITARY meal at Rolling Dunes. Thanks M

Super friendly service, very relax, excellent place for families with young children. We love going there: we brunch there with our 2 little girls every week-end at least once. The food is pretty good, they have a great selection. I love the healthy start. Sometimes I feel that the plate presentation could need a little more love. All in all a really nice place.

Didn't try anything else, but their pasta was miserable, and wine was disgusting. When I ordered the Penne Arrabiata, I asked if they would cook the pasta al dente. I was assured in broken English that it would be. I politely asked the woman if she knows what that means, and she said yes. Then I asked for a glass of red wine and out of the ten bottles on the counter, I was told I could only have the Pinot Noir that was sitting out on the counter. My girlfriend then ordered Ravioli Bolongese soup, we paid $30, and sat. I got my wine with salad. The salad was good, but the wine wasn't good. It may have been decent at one time, but for starters it was 150 degrees! More like a cup of tea. Our food came and, and not only my girl get ravioli bolongese instead of soup, but our sauces looked exactly the same. I knew right then that the meal was going to be garbage. As it turned out, both sauces were just the same tomato sauce. I think the only difference was that I dumped a load of crushed red pepper on mine. Then Julio from the kitchen served up the death-blow: the penne was mushy and disgustingly soft. Does anyone know how to say "al dente" in Mexican? Because in Spain they know what it means. Pasta is easy. If you own a restaurant, you should at least know how to cook pasta, and make sure your employees do as well. They may as well have just cooked it earlier, and then put it in the microwave. What may very well be precisely what they did. If you think this place is good for pasta (which many of you have posted), then you need to go some place decent like Pinocchio's in SF, or Panta Rei, and give it a shot. You will see the difference. Until then, va cacare...

Met up with some friends for a quick dinner. This ambiance of this place is really nice and relaxed. My girlfriend and I ate a few hours beforehand but wanted to get something before the long drive home so we decided to split a crepe. We went with the Grotto, only because it had scallops in it. When our orders arrived, we noticed our split orders were almost as big as our friend's individual orders. That's good for the people who aren't that hungry. Only bad side is that it is an additional $1 for split plates. As far at the actual crepe goes, it was pretty good. While the scallops didn't taste as fresh as I would have liked, the tomatoes and cilantro definitely helped them out. The salad was good and the potatoes were nice and crispy. All in all a good meal, but what made it even better was the company we had.

The few times I've visited, the food is good, portion sizes are good, and for the value, it's great! The crepes come with potatoes and a small salad. I had the crepe with pine nuts, eggplant, and tofu last time I visited, and it was AMAZING!

Cute place to brunch. I LOVE brunch on the weekends. A perfect place to enjoy your morning. We ordered the Mama Mia, Sunset and Red Velvet cake at the end. The only thing I did not enjoy was the dry red velvet cake. I found out at the end that the red velvet cake was from another bakery...mehhhh. What would make this place a little bit better is the service. It's not exactly a sit down and order. Its more of a order and then sit down. Would I be back? Maybe...maybe not. To be very honest, there is nothing that stood out to me.

I've had this joint bookmarked for a few months now & I'm glad I did. I found this place after scheduling a company recognition breakfast here after receiving recommendation of this place from some of my employees that worked across the street. Ever since I moved out to Oakland at the beginning of this year, I haven't been eating out as often, but last week I finally had a chance to enjoy a Sunday brunch with some Fam. It was pretty packed, but we were able to be seated after a short wait at the register to order our food. On weekends, they have you place your order & wait to be seated. After being seated, we were able to get in our order pretty quickly & received our food on good time. Service was non intrusive & swift, keeping our glasses full. I had the $9 corned beef hash with scrambled eggs & had a nibble of the eggs florentine with cheese. I can't believe I've never had poached eggs before! what the hell is wrong with me? the hash was cooked perfectly & seasoned just right. Their crepes look pretty good too. Definitely will be coming back. I think I've found my new breakfast spot! Just make sure to feed the meter or you'll find a nice gift on your windshield.

Definitely recommended for breakfast. Crepes are something I don't eat very often so I was pleasantly surprised at all the crepe options. Besides the crepes are your standard breakfast items. This place is good if you want to get in and get out. It can get crowded. Order at the counter and take your number to your table. It's a cozy place and the service was great.

I had the pasta--very fresh and made to order. Good atmosphere-- Took a star off for price as it was high for the dish (Pasta Diablo with no meat was over $10). Every family had kids with them-- I was in between meetings--it was quick and filling.

Too bad that this cute location has such horrible service and mediocre food. They forgot to charge me for the TWO corn tortillas, so I had to go back and pay again. When they brought me my plate, I discovered FOUR tortillas that I didn't eat but paid for. The food was super bland and the onions undercooked. They didn't put the cheese on my colleague's omelette. When I kindly bright this to their attention, they took time to find our receipt (which they didn't give us) and informed us that they did not charge us "extra" for the cheese since the omelette was a single price. Really? Nothing to comp for the missing cheese? I even told them my colleague didn't like the omelette without the cheese. They offered cold cheese on the side. No thanks. We will never be back.

Stopped in for a late breakfast on a Sunday. First time here. Will come back again. Cons: -Street parking -No pastry selection (was in the mood for a muffin) -The Cha Cha Cha crepe was WAY overpowered by kalamata olives. It made the crede inedible. WAY too salty. -The pecan butter they put on the pancakes is literally frozen. Makes it hard to spread around. Pros: -GREAT atmosphere. Really makes the place. -Pancakes were yummy -I was told the eggs were good (but I didn't have any) -Local art on the way, makes for a good vibe

Solid 3.5 Stars. I ordered something with the name Moonlight in it I think. It tasted ok, looked a bit plain and sad though. They could def do more to make the crepes look aesthetically pleasing like drizzling berry syprup over it.. My friend who had a savory crepe said it was quite good (4stars). I found this place by chance with a friend while walking around on a super hot day looking for a cafe with wifi. They should invest in some air conditioning here. The place was PACKED Sunday and sort of stuffy. They have huge windows in the front which lets in a lot of natural sunlight and they have lots of art on their way so the decor is pretty nice. Good place for a quick bite or to chill if you can find a seat.

I think this place is the best local breakfast diner type place near my house. I hope that they start carrying gluten free crepes soon. I think they have yummy omelets, friendly staff, and are accommodating to switch my toast for corn tortillas (for gluten free). I have a few suggestions though. The coffee bar would improve a lot if you increased the espresso content of your drinks. A small should have 2 shots. Medium 3, large 4... who ever gets one shot. My lattes are always overwhelmed by milk unless i get a gigantic size and the price is a little high for the drink I think. ALSO - I love that you have Tapatio!! But Im a little worried about the high-fructose corn syrup in the ketchup and the jelly. I know its everywhere, but this is just my suggestion. Bag those brands and offer something without those crappy ingredients!! I'm just thinking of all the kids that grow up eating high fructose syrup on their PBJs thinking that its healthy... sad!!

I've been wanting to try this place for years! My twin sis and I finally got to stop by for a late lunch today. It's a hot day, so walking into this naturally lit and shady restaurant with ceiling fans was very pleasant! They have cool artwork by a few different artists hanging on their brick walls. The atmosphere felt cool and relaxed. BUT!!! The lady who took our order at the register was rude! She glared at me but then made a reluctant effort to sound nice. She obviously didn't care for a good tip. Anyhoo. My sis ordered an Amore crepe (spinach, cheese and salmon) and I got a Verve sandwich (port mushrooms, bell peppers carmelized onions, and pesto on sourdough). Both came with a generous portion of green salad and potatoes. I was so looking forward to chomping down the potatoes because they looked so delicious! But after the first few chews I found them to be overpeppered and too mushy for my liking. It took a huge pile of ketchup to balance out the taste. Moving on to the veggie sandwich...mmm! It was delisch! Abundant in flavor, color and absolute veggie sandwich decadence! I was very happy with my veggie sandwich because the last time I had one it didn't have much taste to it. The explosion in flavor was balanced out by a light green salad. I cleaned off my entire plate! (yes, including the overpeppered potatoes) My sister said her crepe was pretty good too! Overall, not a wowzer but the food served its purpose.

It wasn't bad. Fresh squeezed orange juice and nicely extracted coffee. I did not find anything exciting about the breakfast as the eggs and the potatoes seemed to be something I could make myself. Plus side though, I sat there for 3 hours to do some work and they never told me to leave!

What a cute place! My loverman and I slept over at his coworkers apartment. Everyone woke up starving but me but I was really craving pancakes and he told us there was a really god crepe place by his house. Then later he mentions it again to his girlfriend and by that time I was like YES CREPES LETS GO. WHOOHOO. Rolling Dunes totally reminds me of Crepevine except with less items. They had mediocre art all over their walls that I think you can buy. You also look at the menu board and pay up front. I couldn't decide between the Cha Cha Cha crepe and the Tin Tin Pan crepe. I made my boyfriend get the Pancakes Meets Eggs dish or whatever cutesy name it was called. Haha. We were going to get blueberry pancakes but it was $1.75 extra and he wanted strawberry so we just settled with plain. I ended up getting the Cha Cha Cha crepe at the last second minus the olives. Our food portions were HUGE. His coworker got the Denver Omelette and his gf got half a tuna sandwich and soup but both their orders had less food than ours. My loverman couldn't stop raving about the pancakes and how they were the best pancakes hes ever had. They were good but I didn't think they were the best. They had a strange texture to them. It came with a pecan butter that he loved but his eggs were super duper runny. He said his chicken and apple sausage was amazing thoough. My crepe was really werid tasting and his coworker even asked me what I ordered because my crepe looked so werid. Haha. The marinated artichokes were off tasting and there was soooo much cheese. It was good but not amazing. I wish I had ordered the Tin Tin Pan instead. The potatoes were really good and my bf liked them with the sour cream. I wasn't a fan of their salad. We were all stuffed by the end of the meal. The dessert crepes sounded really good and as stuffed as I was, if someone had gotten me one, I would've eaten it. Haha. This place was pretty much self serve. They had pitchers of water on a table for you to fill yourself but some guy always refilled our glasses and cleared our plates promptly. I didn't order or pay so I'm not sure how service at the register was. They didn't have any straws! I looked everywhere. I guess I should've asked. Homph. I kept seeing things on the menu I wanted to try so I can't wait to go back!

I love this place very affordable , healthy food. Even though it is often quite busy, there are always chairs and tables. no wait staff just line up and order. service is very fast . Wonderful workers . The mural is old and funky so decor could be improved but awsome food :-) crepes are really good !!

This place seems to have the same menu as Crepevine -- I'm guessing they are owned by the same people, but I don't know for certain. Regardless, you get the same tasty crepes and breakfast/lunch foods at this place. We went there for Sunday brunch this weekend and the food was pretty tasty, not bad, but not really knocking my socks off. I prefer this place to Lakeshore Cafe, but I don't think I'll be making any special trips. The crepes looked amazing, so I'll probably head back over here when I need a nutella fix.

The food and ambiance is so good! Such a cute little place. They have huge portion sizes! I got the "verve" sandwich and it was delicious! The put a lot of sour cream on the side with the potatoes, which I didn't want/like, but thankfully it was on the side so I could enjoy the potatoes without it.

Service was friendly, but we didn't get coffee refills. Crepes were pretty good, but the salads were soggy and limp. Ill have to give it another shot to know for sure, but it was "just ok".

Enjoyed a quiet dinner by myself. Food was good. I liked the potatoes and the salad that came with the crepe. The crepe was good, though It was kind of salty for me from the olives. I don't use much salt on my food usually, so I am more sensitive to salt than most. The Latin style music playing was great. I'll definitely be back with my family for a meal.

I love their "Little Red Crepe" (with chicken and mozzarella - YUM!). And their apple pie is scrumptious. Cool urban/industrial ambiance too.

I have been to this place twice now. I ordered the Eggs Florentine both times. It was a bit bland but really wasn't all that bad. My boyfriend ordered some crab omelette thing one time. He said the crab tasted like artificial crab.. I honestly couldn't really tell. Love their potatoes. The staff there are always very friendly. There are usually a good amount of customers there but not so crowded where you can't find seating. There are even some outdoor tables. They have a very nice crepe selection (savory and dessert). I'll have to try one of those next time.

I live near this place and have been a few times. This time I went with a friend from out of town and she seemed to like the place. I always get some sort of crepe. This time I shared the Mama Mia Crepe. I don't remember exactly whats in it except chicken, pesto, and tomatoes. It was freakin delicious though! The crepes are big enough to share with someone if you're not big eaters. We also decided to each have a dessert crepe! Both of our dessert crepes were delicious and one thing we loved is that it comes with the option of whipped cream or ice cream!! I mean for the same price can you even compare the two? Of course we both had ice cream, it was delicious!

I love the pesto chicken crepe from this place, as well as their wonderful spring salad with a tangy vinegarette. Incredible. Only disclaimer is that I have not been here in a year or two, but when I did go regularly, it was fab! Oh, Jessica E is right about the Parking. It eats ass.

I'm kind of a brunch snob. Not in the annoying sort of way. I just don't like to get out of my bed on the weekend, head over to a place and have it be wack. With that said, Rolling Dunes is great. It's casual (not in the "broke down" sort of way, but just a laid back, chill sort of vibe) dining with really great food. You order at this place from a line in the back of the restaurant from a gigantic chalkboard behind the register. Afterwards, you get a number and your food is brought to you. Do yourself a favor and get the crepes! Sweet (mmm nutella) or savory (scallops anyone?) - you can't go wrong here. If you're not feeling it and decide to get something else, you can't go wrong with that either. But seriously, get the crepes. In short, this place is great. It's kid friendly, there's a lot of open space (read: you can talk without your whole conversation being on blast - or even have a casual meeting), and there's even outside seating. Great food without the pretentiousness...

Rolling Dunes is great place to have a weekend breakfast (good luck with parking) and enjoy the busy life surrounding Lake Merritt. The staff is fast, the food is good and the walls are entertaining. Sooo why are they called Rolling Dunes? A modern barista station, high ceilings, brick walls, beach mural, edgy paintings... Not a rolling dune in sight. Maybe its an inside joke. Well, that's how Rolling Dunes rolls and if you explore their menu you'll find other odd things. For example, a Veggie Sandwich accompanied by Spring Mix salad, country style potatoes and a scoop of sour cream. A Vegetarian Omelette with tons of cheese (a good thing), accompanied by country style potatoes and a scoop of sour cream. My personal favorite, Eggs Florentine swimming in the glorious Hollandaise sauce, accompanied by country style potatoes and a scoop of sour cream. I'm sure you get the point. I plan to return and continue to explore the menu. I still have pancakes and crepes to cross off my list. Rolling Dunes is a perfect 3.5 star shop. Enjoy.

1 star for the fresh squeezed oj 2nd star for the decent eggs Benedict This place is pretty similar to crepevine (the whole order/ pay first, homefries, & even the menu looks similar). The food is mediocre just like crepevine. The price is okay for the portion. Came here twice and probably won't be coming back.

My boyfriend and I went to Rolling Dunes to have brunch the other day and I settled on a Greek omelette, my boyfriend got the Eggs Blackstone. The omelette was pretty good. It had spinach, kalamata olives, onions, and feta cheese inside it and everything was sauteed to perfection. The salty kalamata olives complimented the entire dish really well. The home fries with sour cream were good, but a little on the cold side, and the toast was cool as well, but overall the meal was good. My boyfriend said the Hollandaise sauce on his eggs was a little lackluster (he prefers the eggs Benedict from Merritt Bakery) and he didn't feel his portion was enough to squash his midday hunger, but he cleaned his plate, so that must be a good sign :) The service was great, and the food was good.

  • Frances H.

I have mixed feelings about Rolling Dunes right now. First time I went the food was amazeballs. Second time, not so much. I had ordered the same crepe...but it wasn't as fresh and it didn't help that the hollandaise sauce I ordered on the side was still frozen in the middle? I'll have to give it another go sometime.

Had brunch here with the bf and although it seemed like a different take on the casual Creepvilles (oops, I meant Crepeville) dotting the areas, I enjoyed my stop here. Why? Because it was unobtrusive and not condescending to someone dressed raggedly (hey, I was in sweats and forgot my clean clothes for the weekend!) The interior brick lining is reflective that of Crepeville, but instead of the French touchy-feely version, there was the attempt of bringing perhaps the Hamptons beachy feeling indoors. While that cheesy aspect was fortunately not carried out in earnest, I was even more comforted by the easy menu layout and the wide variety of choices on the menu. I elected for the simple turkey, cheese, and mushrooms crepe. It came stacked with their country potatoes and I ordered a vat of their coffee. Strong, robust, it kicked my shoes off with the caffeine rush. I'm so going back, once I get off my Merritt Cafe kick of the moment (^_^)

I'm giving Rolling Dunes a "soft" four star recommendation. I love this place because they give you great portions for a great price. However, I was a little concerned about the lack of service after you order your food. In many ways Rolling Dunes is nothing more than an upscale cafeteria... An upscale cafeteria with good food, but a cafeteria no less. This place gets PACKED during weekend days and some selected evenings. One MAJOR positive about Rolling Dunes is since its not your classic "sit down" restaurant, you can order food and/or drinks and just pop out you laptop and settle in for a few hours with no complaints from restaurant management. Although I love the desserts, I can't recommend them because many of the cakes and pies are shipped in from local bakeries... :( Also, be aware of the parking meter trolls in the Lakeshore area. Keep a close eye on your meter time or you might find a little "gift" from the city of Oakland on your windshield. lol

Not so great. i've definitely made better pasta myself, which is sad, because my pasta isn't that great. lol. Came here multiple times, asked for extra sauce & mushrooms, and EVERY single time my Pesto Fettuccine was dry.. never again! The pesto sauce given was decent but my food was very very dry.

Mmm Tandoori Crepe and some fresh squeezed OJ. Rolling Dunes is a good, standard cheap brunch place. Don't expect the bells and whistles of a fancy brunch but expect a decent deal for your dollar. The menu is not too different from Crepevine. Rolling Dunes, however, has a cool mural of the French riviera that adds to it's character.

This place has been totally off my radar and I'd never been interested until yesterday. Something about the signage always struck me as very 80's in an uncool way. However, a friend was visiting my place near Lake Merritt, it was about 3:30, she wanted a snack/lunch, and I needed something like a salad to hold me over till dinner. So, soup and salad would be perfect on a chilly day- and even though Holy Land is on the way, Arezmendi serves soup, and there are a myriad options on Lake shore, none seemed more appropriate than Rolling Dunes. The interior is pretty crazy- there are several murals, 'works-of-art' AND there are weird life size mannequins scattered about-a couple above the gigantic ventilation fan in the kitchen, and another guy in the front of the house; this one paper-machie and donning blue glitter overalls as he climbs a ladder. Whatever, they need to reassess these things! Visual clutter! Exposed brick so the atmosphere is still somewhat tolerable. The tables are pine and the veneer on the tops are wearing with age. You order at the counter and take a number. There's a silverware and condiment station you can help yourself to. Anyway, I ordered the spinach, beet and feta salad, (hold the candied nuts, thanks) and some cream of spinach soup. The soup was salty and creamy and I wonder if it was made from scratch in house, but even if it wasn't it was good, and the salad was exactly what I wanted. The combo was just under $10.00, a deal. My friend tried a turkey burger which was huge and looked pretty good if you're into ground turkey. It came with red-potato home fries which seemed kind of random (I'm sensing a theme, here!) but apparently they were tasty. Her order came out to about $ 11.00 So, all in all a safe bet for lunch, and I'd imagine their breakfast is good, as well. I'm a satisfied customer.

Cute little place to have brunch or lunch. It looks a little eccentric from the outside with the people hanging from the ceiling but once you step in the doors it feels like a cute little artsy cafe. I had the tandoori curry chicken crepe and it was really tasty and hit the spot. It's a pretty big portion and comes with a little salad and potatoes on the plate. Will definitely come back to try other things and maybe even a sweet crepe.

Yes, the system here echoes the Crepevine, so what. The food is excellent the price is better, and the service today, on a Sunday afternoon was exceptional. Wine at $5 a glass? You can't lose. Sitting on Lakeview with the world passing by: priceless.

The moment you walk in you get that it has a very laid back feel to it. You order at the counter when you're ready and seat yourself. No muss, no fuss. The staff is friendly, which is always a plus, because we all know, there are establishments who can care less about their customers. We ordered only from the breakfast side of the menu, and nothing was spectacular. :T the pecan butter served with the pancakes were too hard to spread on the pancakes which were only mediocre as well. The Eggs Benedict my boyfriend ordered were nothing off the charts neither. The new potatoes were had an overpowering taste of rosemary. It can be a good or bad thing, depending on how much you like rosemary. And you must LOVE it to endure these potatoes. I prefer just a hint of rosemary thanks. Maybe the other stuff on their menu might be better, but I can't say it's one of the MUST GO TO places for breakfast/brunch on my list.

I went to Rolling Dunes with friends before a seeing a show at the Grand Lake Theater. This place was awesome. I had never tried crepes before, not even the dessert type. The ambiance of this place is really nice and casual. It has a very open area when you walk in, so it doesn't feel too crowded. I ordered an italian style crepe with sausage, and my friend ordered something with mushroom. Everything was wonderful! We all had a few glasses of red and white wine, and the staff was extremely friendly. I was really impressed with the flavor combination and the amount of food that was served for the price. I will definitely be revisiting the next time I am by Lakeshore!

Came here on a packed Sunday. There's so many people walking down this neighborhood, so be prepared for occasional lines. If you been to Crepevine before, this is similar. Order up at the counter, get a number, and then have a seat. The crepes are awesome, potatoes are heavily seasoned so watch out if you don't like heavy flavors. Service was quick and there's containers at the side table if you can't finish your food. I'm going to try the breakfast menu next time.

With the tauntingly long days and the suspiciously beautiful weather, it would be a sordid waste to not spend some time outdoors in Oakland. I know most people frequent this place for the food and crepes, but I like Rolling Dunes for the cake and the outdoor seating. My friend and I ordered the Red Velvet and the Coconut Pineapple, both of which were delightful. Yup. That's all we ordered. And that was enough to convince me to go back again... and again... and maybe one more time after that. Watch your step on the pavement. We saw at least two kids fall victim to the cement floor outside.

quite a few people in here, so had to be decent. yes and no. ordered a crab salad and the crab came out smelly, and GRAY color. i said this doesnt look fresh and asked for chicken salad instead. I NEVER want to hassle the server and hardly return anything, but this was blatant. there was a $2 difference between crab and chicken salad, and the server just brings the replacement without saying a word about the credit. i had to get up and ask. she processed it begrudgingly, and gave me $2 without saying another word. made me feel like it was my fault. food was decent (chicken not crab), but service needs work. this is customer service 101. pay attention and give a darn about some thing.

Of all things Oakland Lakeshore, The Lake, Rolling Dunes has a special place in my big heart. Being from Oakland, I can appreciate settings as Rolling Dunes. You order your food first at the counter below the tall wall-sized menu boards. The woman at the counter was more than happy for 9AM and that made me look forward to my breakfast. The chorizo and egg omelette caught my eye and that is what I ordered. That and some Earl Grey tea. There was another menu next to the omelettes of just crepes which I'll have to try next time. What I love most about this place is how it's set up-The extra napkin wrapped silverware by the coffee essentials, all organized and waiting. There was even a canister of brown sugar and cream with little tiny pourers in case you want to bring it to your table. Things like this speak to me as self sufficiency rules in my book. The servers were there to serve you food and take way plates. Maybe it is because I like the idea of getting things myself without waiting? Nonetheless, I appreciated that bakers roll away fully stocked with what you would need to dine. Love that it is well lighted as the windows were big and the sun shined right through. Murals painted the walls and were delightful to look at. Oakland's little diamond in the ruff.

It's Sunday night, your friend wants to have dinner, you live in Oakland, are lazy, and almost nothing is open (I didn't mean to cheat on you, Coach, but I'm over Japanesed!) Where do you go? This place- they have a GREAT selection, even for the most picky of eaters (such as myself). Sandwiches, salads, both meal & dessert crepes...you really can't go wrong. Even a little boy at the table next to us had pancakes for dinner. I'm a big fan of breakfast for dinner, so I will have to go here often. I got the burger, which was quite delectable. I am definitely looking forward to going back just for their dessert crepes alone...thankfully it's within walking distance so I can stroll over there anytime! Cute decor as well, although I was a little concerned about the paper mache person on the swing above me...

  • Steve P.

It's not that Rolling Dunes is bad. It's just that it's nothing spectacular. I mean, the sandwiches are really good (albeit a bit on the greasy side, not a downside if that's your thing) but the homefries are almost consistently cold. I don't believe I've been here once where they weren't somewhat luke warm/cold and soaked in grease. That and the "salad" that they add onto the plate is nothing more than an assortment of greens and shredded carrots. No thanks. Other dishes on the menu are equally as mediocre (the alfredo pasta to being one of them) unless we're talking breakfast. I think the one thing that Rolling Dunes does well is breakfast. If you come here make sure it's for breakfast, or at least order off the breakfast menu. Finally, the staff seem to be very nice, there's always been plenty of seating, and it's located in an incredibly awesome neighborhood. All in all, 3 stars. Not horrible, not outstanding.

You know I really do not know what to say about this place....Maybe I was having a bad day the two times I came here for brunch...but whatever let me explain... The first time we went it took us almost an hour plus to get a seat because the heffa waitress gave our table away to another group of people because she "supposedly" didn't know we still wanted to be seated...WTF!!!! "No I want to stand here and watch others eat all morning, even though I asked for a table when I first walked in the door an hour ago!!!!" Anyway, we were eventually seated and I do not remember what I order, I do remember that I did not like whatever it was....but my experience may have been tainted by the fact that I was still upset from the seating situation. The second time I came here I had just gotten off the phone with some people from my office about losing a good portion of our budget so I was exceptionally pissed off once again by the time I was seated. I had eggs, bacon, and waffles and everything seemed soooo bland. The service was much better this time, so that was a definitely a plus....but overall I can't get in to this place, which is weird because I love the little morning spots in my neighborhood.. Anyway, I think you should give it a try..

I went to Rolling Dunes yesterday for a late lunch. It was a pleasant surprise on Lakeshore. I actually found the restaurant on Yelp, and decided it was something worth trying. I went around 3pm and the place wasn't crowded at all. Just a few people scattered around, some were working on laptops. Seems like it'd be a great place to go on a Saturday or Sunday morning w/ your laptop to get some work done while drinking your coffee and eating a crepe or breakfast. I ordered the Good Morning, a crepe w/ egg, cheese and parsley. The Good Morning also come with a side salad and home fried potatoes. The crepe itself was really good, but I didn't think the salad or potatoes were anything spectacular. I would go back though, and next time I want to try the pasta bowls. The decor was cute, it had a traveler's feel... if that makes any sense. The mural painted on the wall was of the ocean... it reminded me of a vacation. Will I go back? Probably.. It was simple, quick, relaxed and no hassle.

There are only 2 breakfasts spots I go to in Oakland - Rolling Dunes and Brown Sugar Kitchen. Rolling Dunes is in a great neighborhood - one of my favorites in Oakland....You will get really fresh and homemade flavored food with great seasoning - I hate when places don't season their food enough but this one is on point. They also have fresh squeezed juice which is really yummy. I usually get some form of an egg white omelet here and have never been disappointed.

This place is great to fulfill a brunch craving. I like their breakfast dishes. The location is convenient for us so we make our way here often enough. Some have commented on the crepes, but when it comes to crepes, I would say that Rolling Dunes is a poor man's crepevine. It's a place where you order at the counter and take a number to your table. Very casual. The restaurant also often smells like cleaning solution.... which i guess is good so you know they clean it? but not so appetizing with your meal.

Do you live in Oakland? Have you ordered the Pete's yet? It's a flavor I imagine when I watch Man Vs. Food. Rich, cheesy, oily deliciousness. It comes with a salad. Guilt solved.

  • Heather P.

Their food is usually really good. Occasionally they'll overpoach the eggs but they've corrected it without an issue. They have a fantastic hollandaise and their crepes are really good. They lose one star for service (even though it is semi-self serve, they could be way more on the ball with beverage refills and the like) and another for what I consider to be vegetarian discrimination. When you order something that comes with meat, if you want to sub out for something like avocado they charge you the full price for the addition of avocado, even though they're getting to save the money on the meat. So basically they're double dipping when that happens. I've brought it to their attention numerous times so now I'm writing it here. I think in an area with so many vegetarians they could be more sensitive to that. Lakeshore cafe down the block is much more amenable and their service is great.

I'm disappointed. I ordered a burger. For some reason it took over 45 minutes for them to cook and serve it. It wasn't that busy of a night but still others who ordered after me got their food before me. I asked the server what was going on and got lots of pleasant giggles, but no real answers. Also asked for my burger well done, but they got this wrong. My home fries were well done. Almost black. Crispy. Burned. My burger on the other hand still had a pulse. Red and bleeding.

This place is open pretty late, and I love breakfast for dinner, so it's solid in that regard. Nothing here is amazing or something I think about long after I leave. BUT, it is pretty tasty (7/10 normally), reasonably priced and the service is fast & friendly. If I'm looking for the basics, with a good bang for my buck, rolling dunes does the trick.

Between 3 and 4 stars! I ran lake Merritt with some friends, and I'm not sure whether it was because I was hungry (we went twice around the lake, lol).. But I do remember that we were all really hungry.. The service was good..nothing stood out to me, good or bad, so I don't really have too much to say about the service here. The food was pretty good too. I had a pancake meal with strawberries in the batter, really good stuff!! And I also had the south western omelet (i think that's what it's called). The salsa that they put on it was really good for sure! Overall, everyone was satisfied with their meal. No complaints. I won't mind coming back here if I'm in the area, but it's not some thing I would make the extra effort to come eat here..

I have been frequenting this spot lately and I have been pleased each time. Breakfasts are reliable and hearty, with tasty coffee that is never burned. The lunch is really where I loose my marbles. You gotta have a sandwich. Why you ask? I like corned beef, especially in sandwiches. So what could make it better? Dip it in egg and fry that thang up. Yes yes y'all, it's like eating a corned beef french toast sandwich. The homestyle potatoes and the greens on the side round it out as one of my best like locations in the Lakeshore area.

Love the sandwiches, especially the pastrami sandwich. Their bread is soaked in egg, so I know it's incredibly unhealthy but MAN it is delish! Each sandwich or crepe also comes with home fries and a salad, which is great for variety and value. My favorite spot on Lakeshore.

This place is really cute! I came here sunday morning to have a really late breakfast. I had the healthy start and my partner had the french toast. We ordered at the front and then sat ourselves. the food came out quickly despite the fact that there were a lot of people. Everything tasted fresh and looked/smelled wonderful. I highly recommend coming in and sitting outside to enjoy the sunshine while you eat. Extra star for the nice local artwork on the walls.

I have been here now about a dozen times, and every time I leave full, and fully satisfied. The crepes are outstanding and the staff is so nice. The servers are constantly checking up on you and filling drinks without being interuptive. The quality of food is top notch and promptly served, and the prices are good. Typically I grab lunch here, but have had dinner a couple times as well. Lunch time gets busy on the weekends so you may have to wait 5 or 10 minutes to sit, but for dinner there has always been a table right away. I was compelled to give a review because of my experience there today. My girlfriend and I took my Mom out for lunch, and she has to carry a small portable oxygen tank since she needs it full time due to a lung desease. The owner was running the register and noticed my Mom's oxygen tube. The place was packed for lunch, and there wasn't a table ready yet. Even though the wait was going to be short (less than 10 minutes) she had a server find the only empty chair in the place and seated my Mom so she would not have to stand during the wait. With her lung desease she has to put out a lot more energy just to do everyday things so this was a great help. I have been out with my Mom to a lot of places and rarely does she receive that kind of accomodation without having to ask for it. So refreshing. So go eat some yummy crepes and grilled potaters!

Was feenin for crepes. Tried the salmon crepe $9.95 and scallop crepe $9.95. Both orders came with a side green salad w/ balsamic vinegar and fried potatoes. I've had much better. There was nothing original or nothing that stood out w/ these two crepes. I really could have and should have made the meal myself. It was pretty packed and noisy during lunch, which is fine by me. Customer service was average. Nothing to rave about for this place.

A friend & I eat here once a month, and I haven't had a thing I didn't like, excepting a one-time overdressing of a salad. I've had salads, crepes, pasta, & soup, and it was all yummy. This is a nice, solid, small business with good, affordable food. I'd compare this place to a favorite pair of sneakers-- nothing fancy, but cute & comfortable & all-around good. A solid choice for lunch & dinner.

Rolling Dunes is a great place to have a crepe, sandwich, omelet or salad. The food is tasty and consistent. If you want a reasonably priced bite to eat and you're in the neighborhood. I recommend it!

I LOVE the tandoori crepe with chicken, potatoes, and carrots. It oozes with curry sauce that you can soak up with your side potatoes. Each dish comes with potatoes and green salad, which makes quite a meal. Oh, and I also had the eggs benedict which was smothered in sauce, maybe a bit too much but it still tasted good overall. I've also come over for brunch, which can be pretty busy, but somehow the staff has found us a table each time (don't know if that's always the case). The service is very good and welcoming. On a side note, I love the artwork that is on display at the moment, especially a very realistic portrait of a pigeon (check it out).

I repeatedly come to Rolling Dunes hoping that the last rubbery eggs and burnt toast I had was a fluke. Alas! It cannot be a fluke if I had the same terrible eggs and toast 3 times on 3 separate occassions! Their short order cook need to go and take egg sensitivity classes. I really want to like this place given the convenient location and the kinda cool decor. Unfortunately, a cool decor and great location does little to appease my hungry stomach. I would probably try this place again since I am a glutton for punishment. I just hope that they fire their cook and hire someone who knows their way around breakfasts!

As I get older, I am fortunately less drawn to "interesting," "quirky" (read: "totally unreliable and flaky") folks as friends. Less sexy descriptors like "sincere" and "loyal" carry greater weight with me. Rolling Dunes is one of my most loyal friends. No, there is nothing particularly earth-shattering or life-changing on the menu. But who cares? What Rolling Dunes does have is consistently good and comfortingly familiar food, natural and friendly staff, and really awesome pancakes (pecan butter=love) served all day for those occasional moments when you just neeeeed breakfast for dinner. I don't eat out much anymore, maybe twice a week. Lately at least one of those meals is a Rolling Dunes soup and/or salad for weeknight dinner. Sometimes I eat in, sometimes to go, but even when I'm just waiting for take out, the waitress with the cool haircut stills bring me a glass of water. Little things like that mean a lot to me these days, and make me proud (and grateful!) that this friendly spot is in my neighborhood. After a long day, knowing that I can get a healthy, affordable, friendly meal (without cooking it myself!) goes a long way.

Stopped in here Christmas Eve morning to get a bite before the activities of the day started. The food was great, priced right, the service was good. Overall a good place to start your day.

I stumbled across this restaurant on Sunday evening, and really enjoyed it. I love crepes, and Rolling Dunes serves a nice variety at very reasonable prices. This is one of those order-and-pay-at-the-counter places... not elegant, but efficient. I ordered a tandoori chicken crepe; the crepe itself was a little bit tougher than it should be, but still quite good. The filling was delicious. The crepe was served with a generously sized side salad and a large portion of roasted potatoes, making it an even better value. I do have one criticism... the restaurant is shooting itself in the foot by making it difficult for a casual passer-by to tell what sort of food they serve. There's no menu in the window, no description, nothing but the name, which tells you nothing. You can't read the wall-mounted menu from outside, either, so unless your curiosity is piqued enough to draw you inside, you'll miss out on a really nice, inexpensive experience.

Really cool spot for brunch! Their crepes are full of delicious and the French Toast 'n Ham I had was perfect. I like it when the french toast is nicely toasted and doesn't just taste like bread soaked in egg. Their service was cool and quick. We didn't have to wait long for anything. A definite recommend if you're looking for a Sunday brunch in Oakland.

3.5 stars but I'll bump it up to 4 since I typically reserve 3 stars for places that are decent but not good. I've gone to RD for the past 2 weekends in a row. Not because the food is amazing but because Lakeshore is the go to area for weekend brunches with my Oakland dwelling friends. (I hella love Oakland). Lakeshore Cafe is good but it's usually packed beyond belief so RD is a very good back up. The crepes are good - nothing crazily amazing but enjoyable. The typical Bay Area crepeness you can get anywhere. I love love love their BLT. It's perfectly amazing. The bacon is abundant and is cooked right in between soft and crispy, the way I like it. Tons of avocado. I usually take some off. Crispy lovely romaine. And the best part, the bread is HELLA good. And I'm not the biggest bread fan. It also comes with potatoes (yum) and a green salad (meh). The "vinaigrette", if you can call it that is flavorless. Needs vinegar. The sandwich itself is such a star that I can overlook the lackluster salad and dressing. I caution against the Greek omelet. They stuff it with kalamata olives so you end up with a big purple soggy mess. No good. BTW - the kids crepes plate are a good size. I'll probably order a kid's portion next time. Neverending delicious coffee. Yay coffee! Downside - Mimosa's are $5 each but at Lakeshore Cafe they're $3... I'll definitely come back but I'm likely to stick with the BLT, mmmm mmm good.

Great place. Service is fast and they are quick to refill your drinks. Had the mama mia crepe and sunset dessert crepe. I loved that the crepe came with potatoes and salad. Also liked that the dessert crepe came with a choice of ice cream or whipped cream for free. Quality is definitely worth the price. Although, I was a little disappointed to find out that the pasta was only served during limited hours.

This spot is good, I have been here a few times and I always leave happy. The first time I had the chicken Alfredo, and it was pretty good, The chicken could have been seasoned better and the sauce was OK. The second time I went I had the Amelia sandwich and it was off the chain. Had smoked turkey, ham, cheese, and mustard on sourdough bread that I think was dipped in butter. This sandwich has me hooked! The parking is bad, but its worth the walk if you don't have any luck with parking. Check'em out!

I'm a fan of crepes - the savory and the sweet. If you roll it up in one of those thin, warm pancakes, I will eat it. (Pause for the obligatory phallic joke because I pretty much walked into that one.) Rolling Dune serves up some tasty crepes. Granted, I've only had one so far, but I wouldn't be against going back to try a few more. This first time I had the Twist Crepe which featured jack cheese, onions, spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, and ricotta cheese. From perusing the menu, I saw some pretty inventive mixes of flavors. I wanted to try them all. The capacity of my tummy is not that big though, nor do I want it to be. Be forewarned, you could easily split one entree between two people. In addition to the entree, you also get homefried potatoes and a salad with balsalmic vinagrette. No fuss, no mess, no wait. Get in line, order your food, and sit down. The lady at the counter was really helpful in helping choose a crepe too for you "I-don't-know-what-I-want" eaters. Those of you who aren't into crepes, 1) what's wrong with you? and 2) fear not, they have plenty of other entrees for your enjoyment.

I walked past here a few days ago and saw someone eating a salad that looked super mouth watering so I knew I had to come back another day and see what this place was all about. Sunday I stopped by with my mom; we both ordered sandwiches and shared them. She ordered the tuna which wasn't albacore and my taste buds can detect the super fishy flavor of the regular tuna, it was served on sourdough bread with egg which is a little weird. I just pulled off the bread and at the tuna with the yummy side salad and grilled potatoes. I ordered the pesto and portabella mushroom on wheat and had no complaints AT ALL. It was flavorful and the portabella was firm not soggy. We finished it off with a slice of German chocolate cake which is usually my fav. It was a bit dry, probably would've been better had it been warm.

Visited R.D. many times for breakfast over the years. We made a huge mistake going for dinner on Friday. The place was empty (something we thought would pay off with quick service) we were WRONG. Two couples came in after us and received their food. We had to ask staff about our food. My friends food arrived uncooked. We'll stick to the crepes for breakfast. Don't waste your time going for dinner. Everything changes after 5pm.

i was excited to try the food here. after strolling through the farmer's market, stomach grumbling, i headed over to rolling dunes (only because lakeshore cafe was very very busy). the service was fast, and friendly. i paid a pretty hefty price for a short stack of pancakes, potatoes, and corned beef hash. one thing that was a little odd though - the server/busboy was doing his thing, dropping off plates and offering people water. but then i saw him pour a couple of glasses of untouched/unsipped water back INTO the pitcher. he refilled a glass and gave it to a customer ??? not good form. i picked up my order to go. got the food home, was severely underwhelmed, especially by the sight of the corned beef hash. it looked like chipped beef tossed with some chopped onion and bell pepper. no motherfucking potatoes in the hash. ??? i was glad that i ordered some potatoes on the side. opened up that box. again, underwhelmed, just by how it looked. everything was pretty bland. had to liven things up with my own condiments and additions. those potatoes were sad. the corned beef hash was ok for a few bites. i'm not used to that kind of corned beef hash (like i said, it looked more like chipped beef). i mixed it with the potatoes to try to play it off, but it still wasn't happening. the pancakes were passable. they went well with the mandarins that i bought from the farmer's market. over all, it was a very *meh* taste experience.

I've been in this spot a few times so today I decided I was going to try it one more time before I go play tennis. The one day I just want a simple egg white omelette w/chicken apple sausage and toast w/some OJ and just when I was going to rip into my meal my damn omelette was raw!!! I was livid. I paid $15 just for that and it raw!!!! And how the hell can u make a raw egg white omelette?!? Let's just say this is the LAST time I'll be in this place. I'm only giving u one time to try and kill me w/raw eggs! YUCK! BOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

They have non-crepe options! The coffee's only ok (we usually fuel up at Peet's first...and afters), but the pasta's pretty passable, and my friends who like sammiches, salads and the like seem to enjoy the rest of the menu. Good brunch option from time to time. Friendly service, nice big open space.

The staff was very pleasant, the menu varied from sandwiches and burgers to crepes and salads. My hubby had a great burger and I enjoyed the good morning crepe. Yum... we will be back!

Great, expansive menu. I haven't had anything here that I didn't like. Not five stars but a rock-solid four. Their crepes are fresh and unique and they have quite the variety, ranging from breakfast, to hearty, to dessert. They also have salads, pizzas, and pasta, among a multitude of dishes. I usually get a salad with chicken and I like that they put giant artichoke's on it. Be prepared to wait a little bit, but be prepared for it to be worth it.

Good coffee, good breakfast food, and plentiful seating. I would definitely recommend the eggs benedict.
