Friendly service. Burgers... ok. Similar to In-N-Out. Maybe a little better.

Having been to a bunch of The Habit locations, I'm glad to say that this one is just as good as the other ones EXCEPT for the fact that the parking lot is pretty bad (small amount of spaces actually near the place) and near a busy intersection. The burgers here are absolutely fantastic. Their burgers are flame kissed with fresh ingredients piled under a fresh sesame seed bun. They shred their lettuce. A side note: Lettuce shredding is fantastic! More places should do so.

Wasn't completely impressed, but for cheap burgers, it was good. It's comparable to your typical fast food burger place (for the most part). There is a good variety of burgers and sandwiches to choose from. I got the mushroom burger with onion rings and a chocolate malt (yes, I splurged a bit). Burger and onion rings were your typical burger and rings. I was disappointed with my chocolate malt because it didn't taste like a malt. Just tasted like a chocolate shake (and yes there is a difference!). I hear a lot of people saying they had to wait a long time to order and whatnot, but I feel it's not completely worth the wait. Although, I went on a Tuesday night and didn't wait at all. Maybe I just beat the rush?

Our office used The Habit to cater an event. I liked it OK, my only complaint was that when my veggie burger came right off the truck but it was not warm at all, but it came loaded with lettuce, cheese, onion and sprouts. I'm not sure if I would make an effort to visit an actual restaurant as I'm not the biggest burger and french fry fan. I can say that the portions are HUGE, both for the fries and for the burger. The Habit reminded me of In-N-Out. If you love burgers, you will flip for this place.

This is my favorite place to grab a burger. I love the milkshakes and the sweet potato fries are amazing! Always good quick service, clean, and the food is delicious.

I go there once a week for a great burger and sometimes an awesome malt before my workout. Always greeted with a smile by a perky and friendly employee. Food is delivered quickly and there is nice ambience to relax and eat my meal.

Tasty burger for a fair price. Not to the level of In-and-Out, but on a slightly "higher class" level (bigger portions) with a price tag to match. If you're craving a burger and it's the only place nearby, go for it. Otherwise, choose your side of the spectrum and hit up an In-and-Out, or splurge and go to Umami burger.

This place serves a really good and simple charbroiled burger. The burgers are made with 100% fresh ground non-frozen beef patties on a open-flame grill to give it that charcoal grilled taste, with your choice of a single or double patty. The double patty is fulfilling but not too big to make you feel like you've eaten at a Las Vegas buffet, it's just the right size. The standard toppings are simple; shredded lettuce, tomato, mayo, pickle, and caramelized onions. Cheese can be added at an additional cost, which is unfortunate They also serve fries and onions rings, as well as shakes, but I only had the chance to sample the fries. They were okay, served hot and crispy. By the time I grabbed my drink at the fountain dispenser my food was minutes away from coming out. Their burgers can become very habitual.

Love the burgers here. Best burgers in town. In n out is going to have a run for there money. Shakes are awesome. New favorite burger. Fries are good too

  • Raymond G.

Definetly not the fastest burger in the world, but it was a good. A burger and fries is enough to fill your belly. The shakes here are not that bad ether. What's good about all this is that the price feel right for what you get.

I actually like this place a lot, the wife still likes In-N-Out for a quick burger but I prefer the Habit. It's got more sauces, more toppings, more flavor...in n out gets old in the first bite for me. this place isn't the best burger ever, but for a few bucks and a few minutes, you can get something that tastes close to a sit down restaurant burger depending on your toppings.

ummm.... I like charboiled burgers, but wasn't too impressed. maybe I went into at a busy time and the grilling wasn't up to par as others have mentioned. I also got the onion rings and they were delicious. People like caramelized onions, but with the whole burger having a crunch, I think regular onions might be a better choice. I want to try BBQ burger and other dishes, but would probably select somewhere else for a burger.

Just ate here for first time. Had the grilled albacore tuna steak on the house salad with balsamic. After my first bite of the fish I had wished I had made it a double order of the tuna. But with the vanilla malt (delish), it was plenty. Excellent quality. I will eat here again tomorrow, as I'm coming down from LA for my daughter's softball tournament.

So glad another burger place besides Wendy's opened up in this center. I don't even know how they're staying in business with the Habit around. Habit was cleaner, much, MUCH friendlier employees, better food for identical/better prices. I've been here many times and I honestly can't think of a single bad thing about the place other than it being so crowded that it's hard to find my family a place to sit (last time I went there around 5 - 6 and we had a hard time finding a place but we eventually did right before our order was ready)

  • Samantha S.

Love love love this place! Cheeseburgers are super juicy and flavorful, bacon is thick and crispy, buns are always soft and fresh. The milkshakes are top notch, I recommend the mocha. Why would you ever go to McD's if The Habit is open? You spend the same $ and this place is far fresher and tastier.

Best Habit I have visited by far. The manager working Friday nights is awesome at providing top quality customer service.

They just opened this Habit a month ago and its always packed for lunch. Drive thru is insane but probably after 2 is managable. Their burgers are pretty good not in n out good but for the price its good. But I have tried their tri tip sandwhich on sourdough bread.. OMFG! SO BOMB!! I literally inhaled it and wanted another one. Combine that with their bomb onion rings and chocolate shake. It was great. I wouls highly recommend it.

I've had the BBQ bacon charburger & the normal charburger. The BBQ bacon charburger was really good. The regular charburger is pretty much like any normal burger. I find most burger places generally alike, & The Habit is good, but it doesn't really stand out. The sweet potato fries are a great side. The burgers don't taste complete without it.

Beef is not my top choice meat. I'm a ground turkey, chicken and fish kinda girl. When I do decide to have a burger, I prefer a Turkey burger. However, every blue moon I crave a big juicy BEEF burger. When this happens, I usually go to Stacked or Five Guys. This time I chose to go to The Habit, since I had heard several different people ranting and raving over it. I ordered the charburger combo with cheese, bacon and avocado, with sweet potato fries on the side. The first thing I said when I got my burger was "Where's The Beef?"..... The burger was thin, a bit under cooked and lacked seasoning. It wasn't nasty by far, it was just basic. The sweet potato fries were also basic. My Coke, now that was refreshing! My baby boy had the chicken nugget combo, he seemed very pleased. The service was excellent. The establishment itself was nice and clean. The male patron coming in as I was coming out with the green and white plaid shirt underneath the Members Only jacket, and clearly, he was The Last Member, was rude as hell. Shame on you sir for trying to race pass a lady when clearly you should be holding the door. I'm so sorry for stoping you in your tracks and pushing you to the side with my breast....Yeah, that guy, not so nice! Over-all experience, was just BASIC!

"Now that's a tasty burger". Nice to see this chain had grown to Irvine and all over So Cal in recent years. Unfortunately the attitude and vibe is no where near the original Habit in Santa Barbara on State Street. Back to Irvine. The food is great, reasonable prices, good service. I make it a Habit to take my cholesterol meds before I come here!

Good food and good customer service but hard to find a table during the crowded times of the day.

I tried the Habit for the first time about a two months ago, and now its become my favorite burger joint for when feeling like a traditional, delicious, nothing fancy, just plain & simple, perfect cheeseburger. If I'm in the mood for something a little more adventurous then I think I'd prefer The Counter. All in all, service is great, place is clean and casual, sweet potato fries are good, all the burgers I've tried so far (Charburger, Teriyaki Burger, and ChickenTeriyaki burger) have all been delicious. The Habit has definitely become one of my habits :)

    (5)
  • Youwish Y.

I have always been VERY fond of my In-n-Out but, this is the first burger joint that has managed to squeeze into my number one spot. Don't get me wrong, INO has its time and place but The Habit is really a much better meal. Can't believe I am saying that but it is true. This place is really, really good. Took about 3-4 visits to develop my habit. I'm hooked and I think it may have been the onion rings that did it. God they are good. And the quality of hamburger meat is superb. Con: They need to build a bigger restaurant with more booth seating. Preferably a block from my house.

  • Archie D.

My girlfriend and I visited this place for the first time last week. All I gotta say is that I think we have a new "habit" for The Habit (terrible joke, I know). Nonetheless, the burgers were delicious, both of us found them to be juicy, succulent and very fresh. We both got Charburgers (I got a double) and we are definite fans. Burgers tasted better than In-N-Out and Five Guys. The regular fries were also tasty, much better than In-N-Out fries, but not as good as Five Guys. I would avoid the sweet potato fries, though. Those were the only iffy item - everything else was perfect. Will be back many times in the future.

  • Amanda T.

I had an awesome experience at The Habit today! And I'll say it...the fries here are WAY better than Innie's (my endearing term for In-N-Out). I ordered the standard charburger with fries, and I thought it was delicious. Loved all the toppings and the fries were perfectly seasoned (which means a lot coming from this french fry lover). My favorite part...you can get pepperoncinis, pickles and peppers at the bar next to the drinks. I LOVE PEPPERONCINIS!! I'm a fan!

    (4)
  • Nikki L.

Fresh burgers and fries, fair prices, quick service. The Habit isn't my ultimate fave (I'm an In-n-Out kinda girl), but they are good, and definitely better than Five Guys!

    (5)
  • Gabriel S.

Good burgers, especially for the price. Clean place with great service. Great alternative to your run-of-the-mill fast food places. Menu has all the burger joint basics but not much else. Try the basic cheeseburger or the steak sandwich.

  • Duy T.

For a place that is decked out nicely and seems to be a place where good burgers come from...they sure confuse me. There isn't a strong point at this restaurant at all. There is no theme, just condiments of varying means. On one of the walls a quote along the lines of how "going to the Habit is a great habit to have" or something. Yeah right. Burgers are whatever and fall apart easily. Dry, distasteful, bland, boring. Fries are the same way, just horrible tasting. I don't even know. Had such high hopes, sounds and looks like a good place but, eh...what a let down

    (2)
  • C W.

I love a good burger and The Habit definitely has that. I live close by and every time I go to Ralph's, I can smell The Habit throughout the entire parking lot. They have a basic menu, but that's all you need when you make good burgers. I usually get the regular version and it's delicious. Recently tried their strawberry shake for the first time and it was better than in and outs. I know their are plenty of burger joints out there now, but I enjoy the simplicity of The Habit. Great burger!!

  • Natalie B.

Their burgers are good and so are their fries. I like the "char" taste of the burgers and the using of shredded lettuce is a plus. The only thing the burger was missing is mustard! Shakes and onion rings seem to be popular here, and I will be trying them next time. This particular location is small and there is not a lot of seating inside, but it has a pretty nice outside patio with more seating. I did not like how loud it was inside. I couldn't have a normal conversation without shouting to my husband. As far as people comparing The Habit to In-N-Out, YOU CAN'T! It's completely different. Well, except for the price....that is the only thing that is pretty similar with the two places. I feel the burgers at The Habit are bigger, and you are getting more meat than at In-N-Out...plus, you have char vs. flat top. Habit's fries are definitely better (I have always hated In-N-Out's). And, you have a lot more menu choices at The Habit. So, besides the price of the burgers and fries, there is no similarity between The Habit and In-N-Out. I would maybe compare this place to Five Guys or SmashBurger. Definitely will be returning here, but at the other Irvine location with the drive-thru. It will be more convenient for us.

  • Marissa S.

Get the mushroom Swiss burger with a side of onion rings. I got excited when I saw they had sweet potato fries but it was just average. Their chargrill burger is good and they make it fresh but I would still go with In N Out on this one. Interior is nice; not the typical fast food joint ambience. Everything here is so affordable no wonder it gets swarmed by high school students.

This place has grown on me for one reason only. BBQ Chicken Salad and Milkshakes! Delicious.

  • Julio L.

Nothing like a great burger, and man was that a tasty burger!

  • Betty K.

FINALLY a burger that does NOT make you feel like hell when after you eat it - but sometimes that feelin is worth it. I really enjoyed their fresh and hearty burgers. I was a little off-put by the shredded lettuce, but of course that is always up to the discretion of the restaurant chain. Personally, my preference is a fresh slab of lettuce. I also enjoyed the pricing, dang. I feel like I'm robbing them.. and it feels so good. Badass onion rings and srumptious fries. If you can, order them both with a standard burger and a friend to share it with. (+ the spicy bar!) You'll have a damn good time.

    (4)
  • Jenny K.

This place has horrible burgers. I got the burger to go and live 5 minutes away. It was grey and tasteless. The Big Mac has more flavor. The fries were over fried and the tuna was dry. What else is there to say? Everything was bad. I don't know what everyone else is talking about. Delusions.

I am not really a hamburger person but I was invited to join some girlfriends for lunch at the Habit. So glad I did! Yum! I ordered the BBQ Bacon Charburger and it was delicious! I added a few jalapenos from the condiment bar and it was perfect. Very affordable. My burger cost less than $4.50. My 5 year old son loved the place too. The Kid's Meal hamburger was only $3.95 and included french fries (or apple slices, or applesauce), drink and a cute little hamburger gummy candy for dessert. My son was kind enough to share his fries with me and they were tasty too. This place is popular for a reason. We arrived slightly before the lunch rush and were able to secure a table without a problem. By the time we were midway through our meal there was a line out the door, but it seemed to move quickly. I would not hesitate to go here any time of day if I were planning on taking my items to go.

    (5)
  • Jenny Crai G.

I like that you can order online. However, all their sides are made after you arrive so you'll still have to wait. The girl at the frying station was so slow. She would pick up one onion ring at a time when putting it on a plate. None of the employees were working efficiently. Everyone was so lackadaisical. In n out still tastes better. Charburger with American Cheese: 4/5 Teriyaki burger with Swiss Cheese: 2/5 Albacore sandwich: 1/5 Tri-tip sandwich with BBQ sauce: 4/5 Sweet potato fries: 4/5 Onion rings: 4/5 Fries: 2/5 Tempura fried green beans: 1/5

I'm not really a big fan of this place. It is basically like Smashburger to me. I much rather prefer In N Out - cheaper, and better quality.

  • Kevin O.

I finally decided to try The Habit Burger after hearing so much hype about it's food. Needless to say it lived up to it's expectations. First of all the food is very cheap. I believe I paid about $8 for a double-double with fries and a drink. Not bad for quality food on a college budget. Food there is pretty good. I was a little disappointed on the actual size of the burger (I was expecting something a little bigger due to the hype...but it's the size of your typical burger), but it makes up for it in taste. The burger I ordered was not too greasy but it twas still packed with flavor, and it didn't even require a special sauce or anything like that to improve it. Also was told to order a 'Santa Barbara?' burger...apparently it's on their secret menu there and has avocado and other things in it. Lots of seating but when I've been there the line has always been out the door. Don't worry...the friendly staff there is very accommodating and they get the job done. In fact the first time I went there with a large group of friends...they stayed open an extra 30 minutes so we could all order our food.

Trying with kyle for the first time. this is a really cool atmosphere.... really great food. love it..

  • Jayne W.

Santa Barbara burger!!!!! All the way! So you walk inside to order and when your food is ready you go pick it up. They have about 6-7 offerings per category (burger/sandwich/salads/sides). It seems very similar to In N Out but a little better/filling/customizable/selection. My SB burger had a lot of goopy white cheese, grilled onions, avocado, shredded lettuce and GRILLED PERFECT SOURDOUGH instead of a bun. I ate the whole thing. The fries were tasty and my friend's Chicken Club looked awesome too. The service was good and the food was good - I'll be back for sure!

  • B D.

This place is the best damn burger joint around. Period. The staff is always cheerful, the place is always clean, the food is delicious, and that strawberry-cucumber limeade they have is AWESOME. And ALL the locations are like this! In'n'Out has the reputation of being THE SoCal burger joint but for locals and foodies it has to be The Habit.

    (5)
  • Veronica V.

I ate at the Habit but I found it to be exorbitantly overpriced for sub-par quality food and tiny portion sizes. I paid over $10, yes over ten dollars for a bacon cheeseburger "Charburger" or whatever it's called. Well what I received was very disappointing. I mean, if you're going to give a tiny portion at least give a tiny plate so it doesn't seem that much smaller. They handed my this big tray which contained a burger smaller than a mcdonald's cheeseburger, and a tiny envelope of fries. It took up less than 5% of the big tray. Talk about failure to present food properly. I couldn't believe this cost me over $10! Worse, I didn't think it tasted great. It did not taste bad. But it certainly did not taste like a $10 burger either! The fries were average. It is possible that this is partly a problem with southern california, which charges high rent not just to residents, but to businesses as well. However, if you're going to charge such high amounts for subpar tasting burgers, at least give better portion sizes. The marketing is good, it had me salivating over the "chargrilled burger seared to perfection", but the actual food did not measure up to the hype, so I was very disappointed. I have never eaten here again since my first time and I will never go back either. Although they have a great website, I highly extremely doubt about their "best tasting burger in america survey" they are advertising. I can think of four places off the top of my head that have far, far better burgers, locally, than this place, plus those places have at least double or triple the portion sizes for the same price. I couldn't say that I recommend this place. It's not terrible, but it is certainly not worth the price and definitely does not live up to their hype. I think they would do better if they failed at marketing, but had large portion sizes of better tasting food, instead of the other way around. I don't eat out because of hype. I eat out because of food and friends. This place did not deliver on the hype. I would say that this place is way overrated.

The Habit is one of my favorite fast food burger joints around. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of In N Out because I don't prefer thousand island on my burgers. So when I'm craving a well made burger that won't cost me more than $10, this is the spot. The Charburger is my idea of how a normal burger should be. Cooked to order with nothing but mayo, cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato, pickles, and grilled onions. No need for some fancy aioli, chipotle ketchup or truffle oil. I like the option of having sweet potato fries and the onion rings are always solid. My favorite thing about this place tho is the condiment bar, filled with banana peppers, jalapenos, and pepperoncinis. I'm a big fan of banana peppers so it's nice to be able to help yourself without having to ask for a whole bunch like a crazy person. Sure it's just a fast food joint and the food can't be healthy for you, but when it comes to having a good old-fashioned cheeseburger, these guys deliver everything that I want. I am a simple man, and this is definitely my kind of burger.

    (4)
  • Philip S.

I have a new appreciation for the Habit. They aren't the cheapest , a burger combo is $7 . But compared to Burntzilla they sure are! Not only ate they tastier, they taste fresh. Think of it as gourmet fast food..I can't recommend this enough. Go here got $7 or go across the street for two sliders, factory made tater tots and pay $10!!

  • TJ P.

I love In N Out, and for the first time I feel like I've found a burger franchise that tastes better at about the same price as a double-double cheeseburger at In N Out. I tried the mushroom and cheese char burgers, which both kicked more flavor for about $5 each. The fries were also delicious. The Habit has a dedicated area where people can get different types of condiments and peppers right next to the drinks area. I'm a fan.

  • Alice C.

habit burger smells better than it tastes. is that even possible? yes... i've driven by plenty of habit burgers and the charburger scent diffusing out of the restaurants always tempted me to stop by. so the bf and i finally stopped by... in conclusion, it was like burger king, but with nicer packaging. for some reason we felt the patty was not flavorful and somehow looked / tasted fake. not sure what it was. and to me, it tasted like a whopper. i also didn't like the bun either, it felt like day old dry bread... going back to in n out as we speak.

    (2)
  • Sam L.

I just had my usual double char w/ cheese and bacon + fries and onion rings...and I got oozy and sick. Food poisoning - I'm sure it had to be from my burger. I'm not sure if it was from the staff or what but I had a 24hr case of the stomach bug. I wont be able to eat another burger for a long time... Can't imagine what it was from - STAFF, PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS!!!

I love this place so much it's no joke! Ever since i found out about the HABIT I refuse to go to In N Out. Cheap prices great quality super fresh and excellent service. What more do can you ask for. The TRITIP is to die for. They cut it fresh every day.

Nothing speciAl. Burger is average basic burger. Id rather get in and out... It's pricey plus it's a plain burger.

    (3)
  • Gary L.

Double char with cheese satisfied my burger craved for sure! Tasted like a fancier Burger King whopper. The patty and veggies were definitely the difference. Better quality than other fast food joints.Tempura green beans was delicious! Would come back.

  • Kat K.

Their service is wonderful, you can always be expected to be greeted with a smile and prompt service. The burgers are great, but if it is busy, I have noticed they can be a bit dry. They are generous with the avocados and grilled onions, and it isn't terribly expensive to customize your burger to the gills! Sweet potato fries are just okay, but their classic fries are VERY good.

  • Tony W.

Best burger joint of all the fast food burger joints in the area. I've been here many times and it's always consistent. The price is good and not overpriced like Smash Burger. This location, for some strange reason, seems to have slightly thicker burger patties than the El Toro Habit location. Anyone else feel this way? I'll be back here over an over because it's definitely my favorite fast food burger chain.

    (5)
  • Rick B.

Impulse, knew Habit was supposed to be a good burger.. Ventured into their Parmesan Portobello burger - No disappointment! A savory, well balanced Char broil, quality ingredients. Fries that beat McDonalds for flavor and texture. Happily go there again.

The Habit Burger Grill makes one fantastic burger! The Habit has been quietly creating a Southern Californian empire over the course of the last 5 years and many comparisons to In N Out in terms of quality and taste have been made for great reasons. If there is a West Coast based fast food burger franchise to challenge the great In N Out I have to think they are it. The interior is clean and they are quite adept at moving the sometimes massive lines right along even though each meal is cooked to order. The Habit differentiates themselves from the pack by offering things such as a Pastrami, fresh LimeAid and even a credible Santa Barbara styled TriTip sandwich. I have had all of them and disliked not a one. The Double Charburger is what I look for each visit and ranks at #3 in my fast food top ten after In N Out and NYC's Shake Shack. The stock version comes with dual charbroiled patties with a slice of cheese on each patty, mayonnaise, pickles, fresh tomato, lettuce and caramelized onions on a toasted bun and in my opinion needs no further adornment. The meat to cheese ratio is perfect in the Double version, but the regular Charburger is more than sufficient for those with a smaller appetite. The Sweet Potato Fries and regular Fries all deserve mention as they all do an admirable job. The Onion Rings are phenomenal and at $2.25, a sure bet. In fact, you should be able to feed 2 easily with $15.00 and have plenty of options for notch at The Habit. I can't wait for my next Double Charburger!

  • Monica A.

The service is great, they have always a smile for you, we love the hamburgers, and the regular fries are the best

Great burgers. I like the barbecue style grill taste I get in the burgers. Try it out!

  • Nijole T.

I love The Habit, they are consistent with great service, clean restaurants and great food! I have tried almost everything on their menu and think the Ahi is the best thing on their menu, my husband loves the tri tip. Good fries, better than In N Out, but they burgers can't touch being as good as from In N Out. Prices are a bit higher as well, subbing Ahi for chicken in any of the salads with only run you 50 cent, so i usually go with the Cobb sub Ahi, perfect light but filling lunch for $8.

  • Dana K.

Good burgers and yummy tempura green bean fries. This place can be a hit or sometimes the burgers are good sometimes the burgers are greasy. Now the reason for my rating is because now I'm not quite sure, but It looks as if they make their salads in a metal bowl in the back near the grill area and when I was in line standing at the cashier, I saw a male coworker mixing the salad in the bowl and for some reason he bent down to pick up something or whatever it was and he ended up reaching down and then reaching back in the salad bowl. Either way, whatever reason it is, it's never appealing see someone working in food prep reaching down to the floor and then reaching back on top of the counter. Maybe he dropped a crouton who knows and also it's never appealing to see people touch their face when they're working in food prep. I understand hair gets in your face (therefore wear a hairnet ) and I know your face can get itchy but do not touch your face!

My wife and I went here for lunch with our son, and were very happy! Good burger, served quickly and at a good price. The patty was a bit thin, so next time I'll order the double, but we both really enjoyed the fresh taste of the burger. Better than many alternatives!

    (4)
  • Nhung N.

A nicer alternative to fast food. The burgers are pretty good here they don't taste unhealthy and heavy. They are a little more expensive than fast food burgers but they taste way better. I usually get the charburger with grilled onions and all the regular toppings. They also offer onion rings which are amazing! I always upgrade my meal side to onion rings or sweet potato fries. I've also has their malts and shakes. They are really rich and creamy!

Great place for vegetarian. Very good service. I usually get the veggie burger with avocado add ons. This time, they had a special portobello burger for $5! I had to try it. To my dismay, there were two beef patties on the burger. I told the manager that there was a misunderstanding. I didn't know there was beef on the portobello sandwich. He very courteously took it back after I politely asked if he could remake it. He brought out my new portobello sandwich in 5 minutes and it was delicious! Best portobello sandwich ever! Crispy sourdough bread, lettuce tomato which garlic mayo and Portobello's! Very very tasty. Probably even better if u ate meat...but I was very happy with the vegetarian version! Make sure to ask to take off the meat if ur vegetarian though!

I drop by just after the noon rush hour, so I never have to wait in a long line for service, which is good since I have a transfer bus to catch after I get my burger. I usually just order a regular Charburger and a small soda, and then I use the restroom. I've tried their veggie burger, but didn't care for it; I'm too much of a meat lover. The outstanding staff always makes me feel welcome. It's almost embarrassing, because it's not like I spend a lot of money there and I am always dragging myself in there from a stressful morning job. Thank you for the food and the kindness!

Not greasy. Fresh lettuce and tomatoes. Very friendly staff. Very clean dining area. Fast enough preparation (they make it fresh so you'll have to wait more than two minutes). I like this place. I didn't expect to, but I do. At first I was expecting some drippy mess which entailed a ridiculous price tag and disappointing bowel movements. I was wrong, thankfully. Patties are decently sized, though maybe smaller than most gluttonous Americans would like. The meat is clean and very fresh and doesn't leave that hideous stench of Grade B death on your hands. Fries are thick and I prefer to order them well done. Onion rings are ok, though I'm not a fan of onion rings so don't listen to me. Fried Zucchini are fun and fresh, but I'm a fan of zucchini so I'm biased. I always order the double char with cheese. I've also tried the Santa Barbara burger which comes with grilled onions and avocado on sourdough. Pretty good too. This place is next to my house and I need to stop making this a post-gym obsession. Maybe take a different way home. My only negative comment would be regarding the useless ilk which loiters around the front and the patio. Annoying and makes me always get my orders to go. Then again, the outside seating isn't all that pleasant since it's right next to a major turn in and the smell of rubber and exhaust fumes might interfere with my taste buds. Too bad.

I love the burger wrapped in lettuce (no bread for me) and all of their salads. Service is great. You are always welcomed with a smile. Don't let the line scare you off . . .they move very quickly!!!

Yum yum yum! A casual burger place that does it right. This particular Habit burger is located on Culver on Walnut just on the corner. You will find it in the center nearest the Wells Fargo. While the interior isn't the coolest burger joint I've ever seen, the ambiance is very casual with a good amount of seating both inside and outside. When you order, you order at the counter and get a buzzer that let's you know when you're food is ready to pick up. So very casual in that sense. My hubby and I tried the burgers with fries and onion rings. My hubby got the double chargrilled burger and I got a single chargrilled. The Habit Burger utilizes shredded lettuce and chopped grilled onions. The patties remind me of a bigger version of the In-N-Out (just barely bigger) patties. The burgers were juicy/hot/VERY TASTY. I also liked that they lots of different condiments out... Cholula, Tabasco, varies peppers and ranch! The fries were really hot and fresh also - as in they were still steaming when they got to the table! YIKES! The onion rings were tasty, but not the best I had ever had. If you need an onion ring fix, head to Red Robin I suppose. Pros: -Great Burgers -Great Value -Good Condiments -Good amount of parking available -Cons: -Onion rings are meh Tips: -Try the Strawberry-Cucumber-Limeade... SO DELICIOUS and REFRESHING!

I like this place. There is a debate whether this place is better than In & Out or not among friends. I personally think its better or slightly better than in & out. Burger is good there but more expensive than in & out. The chocolate shake I had was normal shake and nothing special though.

Call me crazy if you want, but I think The Habit is right up there with the best burgers around! Delicious burgers with lots of additions if you want them (Have it your way!). It's a bit on the pricier side. I give it a 4 because this increase in price does not match the portion size. I love The Habit, but I'm always yearning for more when I finish the meal. It's definitely on my must-try list. They have regular fries and sweet potato and multiple types of great sandwiches (like tri-tip) if burgers aren't your jam!

Good charbroiled burgers. My favorite is still in n out but this is my #2 spot out of fast food joints. You just can't go wrong with Habit burgers. And this place has really nice staff.

This was our first time at The Habit and it was a very pleasant experience. The gentleman that took our order was a great ambassador for their restaurant. We liked the hamburgers. Some reviewers have compared them to In-N-Out and there are some comparisons so these burgers definitely have the charbroiled taste. I prefer the hamburger buns at In-N-Out as well as the overall experience but it would be easy to recommend The Habit for someone looking for a good burger at a decent price.

I came in with high expectations due to previous yelp reviews raving about the delicious burgers. Don't get me wrong, the burger was good, but it was lacking something. I came on a Friday night and the place was packed, which is always a good sign. The place is a glorified fast food joint, where you place your order at the register, and rather than a number, you get a pager and choose a table of your choice. What I liked was the bar of peperoncinis, jalapeños and yellow peppers. I ordered the double char burger combo with a side of onion rings. I'm not a huge meat patty fan, so I probably should have ordered a regular. But I was extra hungry, and figured it would be more filling. Burger was okay, but it was lacking something and I'm not quite sure what. I'm not sure I will return with a Counter Burger and In N Out down the street.

I went to UC Santa Barbara, right by the original Habit, so I was completely delighted when The Habit started opening up stores all over CA. I haven't had great experiences with this location. The first time I went to this location, I tried the tri tip sandwich for the first time. There wasn't much meat on it, and no matter how hard I tried I could not bite through one of the pieces on it. It did not taste good at all- completely bland. On one of my next visits, my sweet potato fries were burned :( The last time I went I tried the Santa Barbara style burger which was very good, and my onion rings were made well. So it seems they can do the standard things well here.

This review is for their Food Truck that we have hired for our birthday event here in Rancho Cucamonga. The main contact person on the site was Hector. He was very accommodating and a very welcoming person. He had gone over the menu. He was thorough, made sure every guest was served, whoever ordered. He continued to check in with us throughout the event. Letting us know how many food orders been consumed and what was left. Close to the end of the contract hour he made sure to talk to us and tell us what was left over and gave us the rest of the orders for the other guests to take home. My wife and I have had a very good experience with the food truck today. All the guest that we talked too had excellent remarks of their food. Hector and all of the rest of the food truck staff are very efficient and timely with the orders for more than 50 adults in the event along with their kids. We are very thankful for this wonderful service they have brought and the guests appetite were fully satisfied. Thank you so much.

Cheap prices and very good quality, tasty food. Friendly service. I had the tempura jalapeño burger and my wife had the bacon barbecue burger. We also had sweet potato fries, onion rings and a mocha malt. The sweet potato fries and onion rings were cooked well and were crispy. Burgers were substantially sized and tasted very good. I like they have a little pepper bar next to the soft drinks were I could load up on extra jalapeños. The place was packed at lunch time on a Saturday but there were a lot of workers and it only took them about 5-7 minutes to have our order ready. I definitely am a new fan of this place and will look to visit more often when we are around one of their locations.

Their steak sandwich is delicious and juicy. I see they did take off their chef/club salad. I tried their BBQ tri tip salad which is very good if you are craving for something a little bit healthier. However, I did add more BBQ sauce to the salad than the dressing it came with. My hubby thought the onion rings was not as good as he'd hoped for. It was more soggy.

Watch In-N-Out and Five Guys, Habit Burger is the new burger leader. Reasonable price, delicious food, and excellent service...you can't ask for anything more. Whenever I'm in town, this is the place my wife and kids want to eat at. In addition, it's the last place we'll eat before we fly out of town.

My review for today applies to customer service. I love the food at The Habit and the staff is always fantastic, until tonight. We walked in a few minutes after 9 and a gentleman (owner or manager) yelled at us from across the room "We're Closed." I wasn't sure what he said so I asked again and got "We're Closed." There were clearly other people in the restaurant and they were still cooking. A "Hi how are you?" or "Happy Holidays" would have been nice. I get it you all want to leave and shut down but clearly no one was leaving anytime soon and there was a better way to handle this. We frequent this location several times a week and tonight we were clearly taken aback by the rude behavior. This gentleman clearly set a poor example in front of his entire staff.

Drenched in goodness! Great name! Great new Habit in CA! So when I flew back to CA my sis exclaimed a new rival to "in and out"; The Habit. I ordered 2 double Charburgers (mayo, veggies, caramelized onions) with crispy fries. The place is comfortable and you'd probably stay longer because its not like the harder seat-benches at in and out. Place smells fantastic and was very clean. I tried the Teriyaki charbuger as well. Its good....not as good as signature charburger so will probably skip out on that next time. Service was fast and friendly. To be honest, all the charburgers I had overflowed with the insides which I love whenever taking that first bite. Definitely a must when in CA.

Had the charburger here. It's good, although it's a bit on the small side. Very flavorful and fresh. This place gets really packed. Clean and fast service. The cashier was very efficient and talked really fast. I like the décor in this place; the hanging lights are unique. I think it's trying to be a more upscale, but still fast food type of burger place. I really like that the menu included different items like onion rings and sweet potato fries not found in other burger places. There are some many other burger places, but this place does a good job. I think I still prefer In-n-Out though.

I applaud the Habit Burger company for reaching out to me in response to my review. Kasey at headquarters was apologetic, friendly and understanding. Thank you. I really appreciate that the company cared. I accept their apology and look forward to going back to enjoy the burgers again and my favorite onion rings!

Habit is always one of our favorite burger spots! This location is one of the best we've been to. Service is always great and they are always happy to take your order. We got a double charburger and a mushroom swiss. Prices were good, and taste was great! Cleanliness of the restaurant was great and tables get cleaned quickly after customers finish their meals. Fountain drinks and condiments are self serve on the side. There is a good amount of seating, however, it does get pretty busy during dinner time. We usually bring our food home to eat (~10-12 minutes away), and the food is still hot when we get home. We have a hard time choosing between here, innout, and smashburger, but theyre all great in their own ways! We can always rely on Habit to have the perfect charred flavor and fills us up pretty well. There is no doubt that we will be back!

I like the food, dont get this review wrong. Today I was in my office, looking for what to order online menu from the Habit... when i discovered i could order online and pick it up! Wonderful, i though. At arrival it was quick and ready. I have ate here before, and all the food is good! Here is why it all went down hill... my chicken in my salad was still raw!! i already ate half of it before noticing it. I really hope i dont get sick... because thats not going to make me any happier =(

The Habit Burger Grill is a nice alternative to your typical burger joints - it offers sandwiches (pastrami, tuna, veggie, chicken), and salads, along with their burgers. The Culver location had fast and friendly service! On a recent trip, I had the trip-tip sandwich and Santa Barbara sandwich - both on toasted sourdough - with sides of onion rings and fries. Both sandwiches were very good and I would order again - however would've liked the tri-tip to have been tender or possibly cut up. Nothing worse than pulling out all the steak on your first bite. Onion rings were much better than the fries - crunchy and well seasoned. Definitely a fan of The Habit and will return.

  • Sammy G.

The chicken is so tender and juicy and the sandwiches can be made lettuce wrapped. Their fries are the best and I love the selection of peppers. The ahi is also delicious and is sometimes overcooked but their salads are very fresh.

  • Julian T.

I love love love their onion rings here - crunchy, perfectly seasoned, golden, & simply delicious. Probably the reason why I come here often. I LOVE GOOD ONION RINGS! Their burgers are also good - I usually just get a charburger with cheese, always juicy and cooked well. Fries are always crispy and soft on the inside & goes great with a side of ranch. Salads are also a good portion - filling enough for me to order it by itself. Can also get jalapenos, pepperoncinis, yellow hot peppers, and lime at the serve yourself station near the drinks. I like the strawberry limeade and the three tea choices. Service is decent, the place is usually clean and there's seating on the inside and outside. I would recommend trying this place and coming back for the onion rings. Not the best burger I've ever had, but it's convenient and never a disappointment.

Onion rings dipped in Hidden Valley Ranch? Delish! Except the ranch is a little watered down Char burger with cheese. SO good & fresh. You can taste the quality. Definitely a good fast food burger. But IMO, still not as good as Innout! Close but not up there :P

I must have driven past this restaurant over 100 times but I've never eaten there. So today I decided to say no to In N Out. No to Island's. No to Red Robin. And Habit Burger Grill, here I come! Upon entering there was a line but I was amazed by how fast it moved. The staff was really efficient and they were doing a great job. I was greeted warmly with a nice welcome. The employees there were all really nice and they made you feel like you are really welcomed there. I was really impressed by their enthusiasm and upbeat attitude. The burger was excellent. It's top-notch quality. They call it "charburger" -- the patty is charbroiled over flames -- and it tasted like a perfectly barbequed burger. Prices are very reasonable -- $6.20 for a single combo and $7.20 for a double combo, both including fries and a drink. Moreover, their fries beat those from In N Out hands down! Note to Yelp: I believe that the term "charburger" should be added to the dictionary of your spell check program. Yes, it is that good. After she took my order she gave me one of those pagers that you see in many restaurants. So when my order is ready, the pager will light up and vibrate, so I don't have to worry about missing my number being called. I've seen pagers being used in numerous restaurants but it is such a cool idea even in an order-and-pickup burger place. Another important factor for the 5-star rating is its cleanliness. It was amazing how clean the table were. My table was completely spotless and not one bit sticky. During the entire time that I was there, an employee was clearing up and wiping down tables non-stop. It appears that they assign one person to clean the dining area continuously. This is awesome! Habit Burger is now officially my burger place. Sorry In N Out. Sorry Island's. Sorry Red Robin. But you guys will be seeing a lot less of me from now on.

Had lunch yesterday with my kids, thank God they didn't get the food poisoning I received with my burger! Thanks for the shi++y experience and having to call in sick from work today! We will definitely be crossing this establishment off our list... I've never been sick from an In N Out burger. I had to select a star to proceed. Stars, yes seeing stars!

What's so great about The Habit's chargrilled burgers is how unremarkable and familiar they are. Fired up over a real grill, visible from the cashier line, these burgers have that backyard cookout taste that I love. Most of the time, when a restaurant makes a cheeseburger, it's really theirs to lose. As long as you make sure the ingredients taste good and are well-prepared, you're almost never going to end up with a "bad" burger. In other words, I think there's a low threshold for burger success, and The Habit definitely qualifies as good burger territory. (As a side note, while I'm philosophizing over cheeseburgers, I think the threshold for a phenomenal burger is extremely high, in that it takes a lot of effort and meticulous execution to rise above normal burger territory, like Umami Burger or something like that.) One thing about The Habit's burgers, though, is that they're very creamy and milky, owing to the American cheese, mayonnaise, and sweet grilled onions. I personally prefer a little more punch to my burgers, like some crunchy raw onion, pickles, mustard and a sharp cheddar cheese. So if you're expecting that, The Habit won't quite satisfy your craving. At my last visit, I got fries on the side and they were perfect. They were definitely better than a lot of fries I've had at even nice, sit-down restaurants. Salty and crunchy outside, with a pillowy inside, these fries could easily be labeled "pommes frites" and thrown on the menu of a swanky South Coast Plaza restaurant as an $8 side, Also be aware that The Habit serves the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. They offer a 1/2 and 1/2 option upon request, where you get a side of 1/2 onion rings and 1/2 fries. Impressively, no matter how busy The Habit gets, their employees and ordering system operate like clockwork. The numbering system is extremely efficient and easy, and I've never waited more than 10 minutes for my freshly-prepared meal. Also, the employees are extremely nice and polite, and offer good service like coming to your table to refill your drink, asking how everything is, or taking your tray before you have a chance to get up and do it yourself.

Just OK for me. Burgers were not anything to write home about. Wasn't crazy about the fries either. If I had a choice, I'd go to Five Guys, at least they have great burgers and bomb fries! This place is pricey too for the lack of quality you get. You'll leave here feeling a bit ripped off.. I know I did.

Love their burgers, the habit never disappoints when I want a nice tasty burger. They have interesting options to go on top which other good quality burger joints don't have. Definitely recommend.

For a casual, fast-food establishment, I have a new appreciation for The Habit, since being introduced to their Fresh Albacore sandwich (on grilled sourdough), and (I've changed my opinion since a previous review) I do so enjoy their Onion Rings (crunchy, crispy, and very flavorful)! The Green Bean Fries -- and regular fries -- are tasty, too! Having the option to get little containers of hot peppers, pepperoncini peppers, and jalapeños on the side is appreciated. I have not yet dined in -- only ordered take-out. The grilled sourdough gets disappointingly soggy after transporting it home, but (surprisingly) the onion rings maintain their crispness. Friendly and efficient crew.

My boyfriend and I debated between Bruxie (also in the same plaza) and The Habit -- and if you couldn't tell by now, we chose The Habit (ballin on a budget). Upon entering, you can instantly set this place apart from other burger joints. Their interior decor is modern and clean. There's also plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. We were instantly greeted by the worker at the cash register who had a huge smile on her face. I asked for a minute to look over the menu and she asked if this was our first time here so that she could help make our decision process a bit easier -- although it wasn't our first time so I kindly declined but really appreciated that they train their staffs to provide great customer service. We came at a good time because as soon as we started to finish up our meal, the line was already reaching the door! I ended up ordering the Original Char which is your standard cheeseburger (grilled onions, shredded lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and pickles -- you can ask for no cheese) which came along with fries and a soda for $6.50. My boyfriend got the BBQ Bacon Charburger which he seemed to enjoy. If you prefer to be without any of the condiments in the burger, feel free to let them know so that they won't include it. We were both given a beeper that would alert us once our meal was ready. There's ample seating available, booths to high tables and some seating for a party of two which we decided to take. There's an open kitchen so you can pretty much see all the action that's happening which I liked. Original Char -- I didn't think that it was anything too mind blowing. The flavors throughout the burger were subpar, I mostly got the salty kick that I needed from my fries and ketchup. Despite this, I still enjoyed my burger. It definitely filled me up. Fries -- I love! They're thick but fried perfectly; crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. Sprinkled with some salt, it was just right. Customer service was definitely a positive to me -- everyone was really friendly and was in the mindset to help out any customers that needed it. Since you pretty much have to pass by the counter after throwing away your trash, the workers make sure to acknowledge you and bid you adieu. If you haven't tried The Habit before, it's definitely worth a try!

I'm a little disappointed in the Habit - or maybe my expectations were too high after experiencing Umami the day before. Their burgers were average, nothing special. The French fries were dry and a little hard. I had a chocolate malt and that was delish! I'd have to say that if there was a Five Guys in the area, I'd hit that place before returning to the Habit.

I am so glad i tried this place out! Now this is our alternative burger place aside from in-n-out. I compare this place with in-n-out because that's the probably the only place I eat burger. So its more of comparison review. First of all Habit offers a bit of more options like mushroom, avocado which you cant get in NNOut. Second of all I like their fries, its regular fries, not like the ones in NNOut ( you know what I mean, NNOut's fries is different). Third, they offer more flavors on their shakes. Price wise, its inexpensive. We got 2 mushroom swiss, one with extra avocado, fries, and skake for $.14.05, which is resonable. Their burger, fries can beat the Johnny Rockets, or at least thats my take. Overall, great great great place! If you love NNOut, give this place a try! You will not be disapponted.

I decided to check this place out after I received a coupon for a free burger, the cashier was very polite and offered me the option to upgrade it to a meal for a cheap price and I took advantage of the offer. It was a wonderful first experience, and the food was much better than I expected. It reminded me of Ruby's, but I picked up my meal on a lunch break and only order to go. I'm amazed that I haven't noticed this place because I remember the location being a video store called Video City that I went to often as a child. Later on it became a Burger King and I never cared too much for it. I'm glad that it finally became a place that I can enjoy again. The only problem is it gets way too crowded, much like the Burger King did, and it doesn't have a drive-thru. Otherwise, I think it's worth the wait. I haven't been disappointed and finally got to try the onion rings the last time I had dinner there, it can get a bit pricy but I think it's worth it and have recommended this burger joint to friends.

The burgers are okay. I really like having lots of options and good toppings, but for me a good burger comes down to great buns (which is average here) and great beef (which is also just okay here). I've eaten here about 3-4 times already and I will continue eating here when I'm not in the mood to drive all the way to In-N-Out or I crave something different. The sandwiches on grilled sourdough are really quite good, and the high point of their menu, along with the onion rings which are awesome. They're the best I've had at any burger joint in a long time. I always get them with a side of ranch! I did have a situation my last visit where I was waiting almost 25 minutes for a to-go order. Apparently, the new employee at the counter messed up on getting my order in the system, gave me a buzzer, but no food was being made for me. They manager ended up comping me two free meals and all was made right.

Not gonna lie, I'm in love with the habit and would go to whichever one. What put this place over the top? Their customer service. Literally the nicest people on earth and made me feel at home with their friendly demeanor. Couldn't even tell I was ordering fast food.

Wow. Just wow. This bomb ass cashier took my Order and I was like hot dayum girl, let me Get a Charburger and she even asked if i wanted CHEESE! I think her name was Aira. I'll be back but not just for the burgers! I could just go all day about the Habit, bout to make it a Habit

This place isn't bad at all! I'm glad it replaced the Burger King though. Service here is great; employees are extremely friendly and accommodating. I've ordered the charburger, double char, fries, onion rings, and vanilla shake before (not all at once though!), and they are all delicious. I actually prefer the fries here, over In-N-Out's fries. There are lots of seating both inside and outside. But if you come during lunch time, then there might be some difficulty in finding a seat. If this does happen, just stalk down some people that look like they're about to finish up and leave.

Love the feel of this place. Restaurant quality with fast food speed. The burgers are excellent. They surpass in-n-out. Onion rings are perfect. Salads are even better. Love the selection. I recommend you try this place as quickly as possible.

I am not a big burger fan. Scratch that, i am a very picky burger eater. That being said i love this place. Probably my 2nd favorite burger joind next to in n out! All the burgers are delicious and flavorful. The pastrami is not bad but there are better places for that particular sandwich. The onion rings are pretty awesome as well. The chicken sandwich was not very appetizing tho. Stick with the burgers. Customer service has been friendly and food cooked relatively fast. Prices are very reasonable as well. Definately a must vist, burgers and onion rings! Pros: delicious quality burgers, awesome onion rings and competitive prices Cons: chicken sandwich was dry and couldnt finish it

When this place first opened, I wasn't impressed. In the last few weeks I have been there a couple of times and I have to say I have changed my opinion. First you are greeted by an obviously highly trained and friendly staff and the product is now great. Overall an excellent burger, fries and onion rings. The shakes are fantastic if you are looking for a treat.

If you think In-n-Out has the best burgers, you should really give this place a try. There's a good chance you'll change your mind! I ordered their Double Char with cheese and raw onions. They give you a pager to notify you when your order is ready. I definitely prefer their burgers over In-n-Out's burger, which are definitely good burgers but are way over-hyped. This restaurant in particular is very busy during lunch time because the Irvine High School is within walking distance of this place. Parking can be a little tight so bring some patience and a sharp eye with you. The dining area is clean and the employees are all very friendly.

Honestly the best fast food burger I've ever had. Got the #1 (Original Char burger, fries and a soda) and it was beyond good. The cashiers are always very friendly and they've never gotten my order wrong. I've also had the chocolate malt and it too is freaking fantastic. This location can get very busy and it can be hard to find a table but I don't care... I'll go eat in my car if I have too. A must try for any burger fan.

Second time at this joint and it was nearly as good as the first! I had the BBQ Bacon burger ($4.65) and boy was it packed with bacon :P The bacon was crispy too, just the way I like it. Definitely satisfied my craving. I especially love the flavor of the char on their burgers which is just as good if not better than that on In-N-Out ones. My dad got The Hatch- some summer special they're doing with hatch chiles- it looked pretty good and was packed with grilled onions and chiles too. My mom got the original ($6.50 w/fries and drink)- nothing too fancy there- and the sister got a chicken club ($6.95!!) of which I had a bite. It was a bit pricey for a sandwich, but it did have a lot in there- lettuce, tomato, bacon, avocado and grilled chicken- and the grill on the bread was perfect. We had sweet potato fries and onion rings too, both of which were en pointe! The sweet potato fries were super crispy and the onion rings were neither too thick where all you taste is onion nor so thin that all you taste is fried batter. The ONLY complaint I have this time was that our order of fries looked SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than everyone else's orders! It was practically half an order...as if we'd gotten the last of the batch they were cooking and didn't bother to fill it with more :( I watched the pick-up counter as I ate the rest of my meal and saw customer after customer take away orders of fries that were much larger than ours..sigh..I chalked it up to a mistake this time, but the incident, coupled with the fact that their items are already more expensive than In-N-Out ruined the experience. Otherwise, potentially worthy of five stars!!

A Tale of Two Habits I had never been to any of The Habit locations before. Today, for a special event at work, we were fed burgers from The Habit at lunch time. I really thought it was an outstanding burger. Honestly, it gave In-N-Out a run for the money. I decided that someday I needed to go visit one of their places and see if they were really that good. My wife was going out with some friends tonight so I decided to stop at the grocery store on the way home and pick up something to eat. As I pulled into the large shopping complex on Culver & Walnut, there, before my eyes, was The Habit. I had never seen it there before - it was like it appeared out of nowhere (I had no idea that it had just opened a few days ago). It was clearly a sign from God that I should have another burger for dinner. The interior was small but nice. The tables and booths were kept sparkling clean by a friendly worker. It was busy but not too crowded; there were several open tables. I ordered a charburger with cheese, fries, and a coffee milkshake. They gave me a beeper to let me know when my order was ready. Although they make things as you order, it took less than 5 minutes. The burger had a fantastic chargrilled flavor and everything (tomato, caramelized onions, pickles, and lettuce) was very flavorful and fresh. I noticed that the burger patty was hot while the lettuce and tomato were cool, a feat not accomplished since the short life of the McDLT (old timers will remember that sandwich!). I also liked simple things they did like grilling the bun and providing a condiment bar with jalapenos and pepperoncinis. The fries were hot and thick, crispy outside and soft inside. They were seasoned perfectly. I sat and ate all my fries before I even touched the burger - they were really tasty. The coffee shake was quite thick and delicious but the coffee flavor was a bit weak. I'm surprised but my personal verdict is that this burger rivals anything In-N-Out makes and their fries are much better. After 2 Habit burgers in one day, I'd give The Habit 4 1/2 stars.

I have been coming here 3-5 times a week for over 2 years. I have never had an issue. However, tonight I came in about 8:00PM for dinner take-out. The two cashiers are either new hires or helping out from other stores, as I didn't know them. While waiting for cashier to figure something out with loose change and bills on the counter, I noticed the kitchen worker assembling burgers at the wooden cutting board. After he did his thing, he wiped down the cutting board with a extremely soiled, disgusting rag. I was shocked, to say the least. The heavy-set, balding Manager noticed the delay on the cashiers part, and asked if I needed help. I pointed out my displeasure with the soiled rag and its inexplicable use. Upon hearing this, the kitchen worker swapped out the disgustingly unsanitary rag with a new one. This left the new one and disgusting one on/near the cutting board. The Manager picked up the new one and tried to obfuscate any blame. I told him I watched the worker use the soiled one, not the swapped-out new rag. Instead of saying " Ok, Sir I'll see it doesn't happen again", he said " I'm not going to argue with you" ! The food is good, the prices are fair, and the girls that work there are all great. Smiling and pleasant, they do a great job. Before I left, I told him HE lost me as a customer forever. Basic issues of sanitation should be well ingrained in the Kitchen workers training. I went down the street to In-and-Out Burger. This place screams of sanitation and regard for customers health. They assemble their burgers on a stainless steel surface, unlike the porous wooden cutting board, a bacteria breeding ground. P.S. Read SAM' S review below mine. He got food poisoning here months ago. You don't have to be a Doctor to connect the dots.

Eh. My friend and I were going to go to In-N-Out but decided to go here instead. I regret it. I got the Charburger WITH cheese (which costs extra) with fries. The fries were crispy and really good. The burger had a lot of mayo (meh), tomato and shredded lettuce, and the patty had a charred taste - hence the CHARburger. But I wasn't feelin' it. I should've gone with In-N-Out since I just got back from Boston. My friends said they have great sandwiches like the pastrami. Maybe I'll come back for that. The price is really cheap for a meal ~$6. They're definitely going for the nice atmosphere, fine casual dining with great service. Every employee was really nice and I felt like I was eating at a very nice casual dining place, like Panera. But I like my burgers.... and I'm not sure if I'd come back.

Oh gosh how much I love this place. I can be a bit abnormal compared to everybody else because I am not the greatest fan of In'n'Out..... I find their burgers to be low grade & only acceptable because it's cheap. However, the Habits burgers are cost-friendly and the quality is like A GAJILLIONNNN TIMES BETTER! Granted, when you make it a "combo," the price rises but I only eat the burger so it's just fabulous for me. ^^ But a good note is that the fries are quite delicious too. (:

I have heard some mixed reviews about this place but maybe because I always get the veggie burger, I think the Habit is delicious!! I really think that the veggie burger at least is like Islands burger quality and ya'll know that Islands is known for some good freakin' burgers. The veggie burger comes with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onions, sprouts, and honey dijon. The cucumbers and sprouts really make the burger for me; it's soo delicious! I get grilled onions in my burger which is cooked on the grill where their meat patties are also cooked so strict vegetarians might mind but it's just so so good that I can't help myself. This is probably the only fast food type restaurant that I go to whenever I am really craving a burger and can't resist any longer. I also love that they're the kind of fast food restaurant that goes the extra mile to offer healthier options so you can come with friends who don't enjoy burgers. There's a variety of sandwiches as well as a bunch of fresh salads to choose from. Fast and friendly service. Restaurant is always nice and clean. Lots of tables always available. Even when they're busy, I've never had a problem finding a seat. Nice bathrooms. That's always a plus in my book.

So we decided to finally try this out after seeing so many restaurants pop up in Irvine. Overall ranking of burgers: Best -----------------Least Favorite In-N-Out -- Five Guys --The Habit Not saying Te Habit is bad. We just didn't think it was as delicious as In N Out or Five Guys. Their fries are really god though. Their burgers are definitely bigger than In n Out but smaller than Five Guys. It's for sure worth a try. It's not bad at all. It's rather delicious and the way they melt the cheese is heaven. Their shakes were as good as well. I think they use strawberry syrup rather than real syrup which changes the flavor a lot but it wasn't terrible. Definitely worth a try!

This is one of my favorite go to burger "chains". You'll never see me at a Wendy's or a King of Burgers, or Mac's Lounge (except when overcome with an attack of the late night munchies and I'm compelled to get a large fry - well done, of course, and an Orange Hi C to go). So when I say burger chain, there are a select few I shall actually patronize for more than fries, a drink, or maybe, just the bathroom. That being said, DO NOT get the TRI-TIP!! I've been sadly disappointed every time, and alas, that has been thrice in the past. Trust me, you will not be happy if you are looking for tender, or great flavor as they are just not going to be there. However, the Teriyaki Burger w/ Avocado and Bacon is mouth watering good. The Vegi Burger Teriyaki style is also the bomb. The fries, awesome. The fried Green Beans, damn good. Oh, and the shakes and cones...yum.

yesterday, i was in a burger mood and had in n out for lunch and habit for dinner. yes, habit is a good burger joint, but i dont think any burger compares to in n out. dont get me wrong, i enjoyed my dinner, but nothing can top in n out. to start off, very very clean joint since it just opened. i went to their lake forest one before but it was too far for me so i only went once. so i was super excited when i found out they were opening one near my house. their patties are pretty good, not too greasy/filled with fat. their burger is a good size, will get me full with one. they also have grilled onions option i think. they also add pickles and i love pickles!! their fries are thick cut, very crispy and fresh. i almost burned my tongue last night haha.

Listen if you have a chance and want something different from the big fast food chains then this is the place to go. The establishment looks clean, it's modern, nice limited menu and great atmosphere. The best of all, it won't break your pocket.

Yeah, this place is a chain. But don't let that turn you off! The Habit taught me a valuable lesson in that less is more. First time I had it was on a road trip back from Fresno. I probably ordered something like the Double Thickburger with avocados and mushrooms. It was alright. I had written this place off as another generic fast food spot but since they opened one up so close to home it's a nice place to get a quick bite. Last time I was here I ordered a regular Thickburger with fries. I was pleasantly surprised! Burger was cheap but delicious! Meat was juicy and the lettuce wasn't... overbearing. Overall, the whole thing was on point. Personal protip: Ask for a side of mayonnaise and mix it with ketchup. It makes for a perfect dip for your fries!

Pros and Cons List Pros 1. Tasty burgers for a cheap price 2. Friendly Service 3. Great Shakes Cons 1. Long waits at times 2. They charge extra for fries. I come here pretty often for lunch. They have tasty hamburgers for a cheap price Their double charburger is priced between $3.95-$4.25 depending on whether or not you want cheese. They also have a bacon cheeseburger for $4.25 w/o cheese and a Hawaiian burger for $3.25 w/o cheese. Additionally their iced green tea and various shakes are all delicious. My only complaint is that they charge 50 cents extra for cheese and that they service can be quite slow.

Best Habit ever. I'm from an area where this restaurant is everywhere and I have to say that this location is the BEST! I always get the mushroom swiss char and fries. The burger is juicy, packed with flavor, and just delicious. The fries are crisp and hit the spot--it is a great addition to the burger. This place seriously gives you quality and quantity--it fills me up when I am literally starving! The ambiance is nice. It is not too loud nor quiet. Great place to just chill with your friends. The seating is spacious and very comfortable which allows you to enjoy your meal. Service here is alright. It is what you would expect from a burger place like this. They have the buzzer things that buzz when your food is ready and when they see that you are done they offer to take away your tray. This place is a must try if you are in the area! Even if you've had the Habit before, you have to try this location!

Great service - very friendly! Ordered the double char, which is a basic burger with two meat patties, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and mayo. The meat patty was pretty flavorless and was too chewy for my liking. Reminds me of the patties I get from Costco and grill up on my own at home. Will come again with friends or a quick bite, but wouldn't come out of my way for it.

These burgers to go are delicious and not much more than your standard fare at a fast food chain. One of the best bangs for buck in burger world.

I am so lucky that this place is literally just a mile from where I live cuz it's awesome! My go to is the mushroom/swiss burger (hold the pickles/tomatoes please) but a close runner up is the standard charburger with cheese. The size of the patty is perfect and I love how they are freshly grilled to order. It has just the right amount of mayo - makes the burger moist but not mushy. I love, LOVE the bun as well! When you feel like a step up from fast food (that includes Inn and Out) but don't want to pay for a restaurant burger, you definitely must go here. Service is always friendly and they double check your order when you pick it up. Only negative is that the fries are no bueno - they are dry and not super tasty. But this place is known for their delicious burger anyway! If only they sold Mcdonald's style fries *mmmmm*

Hello Yelp Elite World. For my first review as an Elite member, I will put the hammer down on the Habit Grill. Well, it's not a horrible place, it's a good burger place, but no way does it come close to in-n-out. I work near the Spectrum, and it's just too far to go all the way to the in-n-out at Jamboree. #firstworldproblems. I mean the burgers pretty decent, without comparing it to in-n-out, and I enjoy their sweet potato fries. The staff was really nice, and I liked that they had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Also, they had banana peppers and jalapenos for people looking to spice up their meal. They also carry ranch...and I don't know what other condiments they have. Thank you to whoever suggested me to Yelp Elite; looking forward to writing more reviews of businesses around the OC and beyond, especially the mom & pop shops.

Absolutely love it! Everything I try here is great, the Cesar salad and teriyaki char burger are my favorite. The best thing about this location though is the customer service you get here. Every time I go there the staff is welcoming and friendly, and quick to help you out. I go here so often that one of the staff named Kasey recognizes me and has my order ready to go when I call ahead, which is incredibly helpful on the days I'm running from job to job. Must try!

Fantastic food and always a happy smile at the register. I love the burgers, and that says a lot because I'm not a big meat eater...I actually went 15 years without ever eating red meat. A friend of mine who I work with (and use to work for the Habit) gave me a couple of coupons for a free burger, I decided to go for it and I got hooked. Ive been going once a week. They always get the order right and the burgers are fantastic. This is my favorite burger place now.

I love me some Santa Barbara style double chars. Holy crap! I just hope as they get bigger and bigger the quality doesn't go down! The food is good, the price is reasonable! I find that on the comparisons to in n out, this place is better. You get more bang for your buck!!!

If you like the outdoor BBQ or grillled flavor on a burger then you will like the burgers here. They call their burgers "Char-burgers" for a reason and they really emphasize the "char" flavor which is a good thing. I got the double-Charburger while my wife got the terriyaki burger. The price is only $3-$4 for a burger which is very reasonable. I like how they used shredded lettuce instead of the whole big lettuce leaf like many places. It's a small but much appreciated detail for me at least. We also got onion rings and fries, they were tasty but nothing out of the ordinary. They had a tasty looking sandwich menu but we didn't try it. I would recommend this place for a quick / simple and tasty burger.

  • Sam P.

Stop the madness! I don't know why people say this place is better or even as good as In-N-Out. More toppings does not equal a better burger. In my opinion, In-N-Out is the king. Nevertheless, The Habit is an above average burger joint in comparison to other fast food places and sit-down restaurants. The onion rings are crispy and delicious. Adding avocado to your burger is also a nice option. The sitting area is very small so you're better off taking your food to go. I recommend this place as something you should try at least once... just so you can say you tried it and to see what all the fuss is about.

3.5 stars I love how fresh their food is! You order at the cashier and then they buzz you with this pager device they give you to let you know when your food is ready. And every time I've picked up my food, the burgers and fries are fresh and hot! Definitely better than your typical fast-food places. While their menu also includes a variety of sandwiches and salads, I've always gotten their charburger with cheese ($2.95 + $0.50 for the cheese). This is your standard single patty cheeseburger. Fresh off the grill and delicious. If you're hungrier, you can go for their double patty burger or the double charburger ($3.95). Add an order of fries for $1.85 or an order of onion rings for $1.95 (don't forget to ask for ranch sauce!) and you have yourself a pretty hearty meal! Or just make your life simpler and order their combos, which will come with a fountain soda. I don't think you save that much by ordering the combo though. Just a heads up, cheese costs extra. I've been to the Habit several times now and I had no idea they charged 50 cents for cheese. They ask you if you want it, but I thought it was just courtesy. I didn't know it was an additional charge so just a warning! Also, this location gets pretty packed during peak lunch hours. Lines out the door, waits for tables. While they do have tables outside. they don't have a lot of seating inside. I've been discouraged from coming here at times for this reason. It's not that big of a place. The staff is nice and they have a little pepper bar where you can get peperoncinis, jalapenos etc. Overall, it's a good place to grab a nice lunch that tastes better and fresher than most fast food joints, albeit it is slightly pricier (double charburger with cheese combo is $7.70). It's located next to Ace Donuts in the Ralph's plaza. I would try to park closer to Ralph's though since the parking area near the Habit is pretty small and almost always full.

Just a good quality burger. Onion rings were crispy and not overly breaded. The green beans are great, hope they keep them around for a while. Wait was longer than I would have liked but worth it.

OMG! I love the sweet potato fries! The Char Burgers are great as well. Prices are very reasonable and I think you get a lot for what you pay. Definitely worth the time we stood in line! My son and husband had a great time too. We are a fan now!

Ok food, but indifferent customer service...0.5 stars if I could. A couple of weeks ago went there and had a very bad experience with the cashier who messed up our order more than once and a supervisor who didn't give a f@#: She only cared to ask if it was my husband's fault or the cashier's, but walked away upon getting her answer and went on break. I emailed a complaint through their website and got a reply from their district manager who appeared to care and asked to connect with me to get more details, but never called back after I left her a voice mail. Guess the problem starts at the top, very disappointed.

Months has passed and i decided to try the Caesar salad again. who knew that I would find bugs in my Caesar salad a second time. I brought this up to the manager. He replaced my salad with a lettuce wrapped burger and a coupon for two free burger however I don't think I want to eat there anymore.

I'm all for hiring high school kids and giving them an opportunity to work...but these kids were not up to par. I stood in a long line with one cashier while the others walked around in circles. Our cashier was super friendly, but struggled to enter my order. She seemed to pull it together when she read it back, so we were all good. When I grabbed my food, I had to ask for the items I ordered on the side bc they didn't give them to me...finally got in my car, drove 2 miles away and started pulling out my food...BOTH burgers totally wrong. Actually one of the burgers wasn't even a burger...they have me a grilled cheese sandwich. Needless to say I felt like I wasted $13 because the flavorless fries were all that was eaten and I had to go home and make my kid a turkey burger...drive an extra couple of miles and go to the Habit on Barranca

I tried The Habit initially at another location and wasn't impressed. My friends wanted to visit this one so I tagged along and thought I'd give them another try. This time I ordered the swiss and mushroom burger and added bacon. The first thing I noticed was that they had toasted the bun. When I had the burger initially the bun didn't taste toasted. The burger was much better than I remembered, but the patty is really thin, so I suggest you get the double patty if you want a more substantial burger. The fries here aren't bad, but I love the sweet potato fries much better. The kids really liked this place. Not quite a 3 but it's definitely not a 2 either.

3.5 stars after driving pass this place several times, we decided to give it a try. i had the swiss mushroom burger and the bf had the original charburger. we also shared a side of fries, onion rings, and a chocolate shake. verdict? bf said his charburger reminds him of fatburger, a hearty, overall good burger. nothing to write home about, but it's good. my swiss mushroom burger was about the same; a hearty, delicious burger with cheesy goodness and plump mushrooms in each bite, but again, nothing to write home about. the fries were disappointing, tasted frozen. but the onion rings were AMAZING. lightly battered, sweet onions, every bite was heavenly; crispy and sweet. dipped in their ranch, even better... i can be picky with my ranch, and the one here is delicious! a little on the watery side, but it tastes good. chocolate shake, definitely recommended. i liked that the shake here is not as thick as other places. it was sinfully good. it's difficult to compare this place to other burger places because they all have their own good points. mick's karma bar is still my #1 burger in orange county. that karma sauce, the meaty patties, the strawberry basil lemonade... for a cheap, satisfying burger, in n out is my #1, since $5 will get you a delicious burger and freshly cut fries. shakes here are too sweet for my taste. then, there's the habit. it offers a larger menu than in-n-out, with burgers, sandwiches, and salads. also, their burgers are larger than in-n-out. the santa barbara sandwich looked GOOD. i will return to try that along with the sweet potato fries...and a different shake. prices were decent, but i'm sure it can add up if you want extra add-ons (cheese, bacon, avocado, etc). the price tags are pretty much on par with fast food chain combos. service was also good and quick.

Double char burger with cheese and onion rings for the kill. This place reminded me of an In-And-Out but better. Burger patties are kind of small like a McDonalds hamburger patty so that is why I am not giving it 5 stars. Fries are bland and boring however their onion rings are crispy and delicious!

  • Edson H.

Pretty good substitute when I don't feel like waiting an hour for a burger at in-n-out. Dig their sweet potato fries and condiment bar. Lines can get crazy long, literally out the door. Parking is atrocious too... sometimes I have to pump in gas at the Chevron just so I can run inside to get takeout.

My husband got a take out from here. Our order was mushroom swiss, double charburger and pastrami sandwich. Verdict was the burgers were very good. Way better than Five Guys in my opinion. I would definitely get their burger again. As for pastrami sandwich, it was really salty. I didn't like it at all. So, no way for pastrami but definitely yes way for the burger!

The Habit is one of the burger joints that I have heard about lately. But, have never been there. I finally had a chance to try their burgers when I had to be in Irvine. I got a Double Charburger for the low price of $3.95. The Double Charburger is a basic double meat hamburger. It wasn't the best burger that I have ever had. But, it was a good burger at a great price. The burger was so big that I could not fit it into my TMJ dysfunctioned mouth. I had to smash the burger in order for it to fit. Service was good. I don't understand why they give you a pager for when your food is ready. While it may seem kinda cool, it seems like overkill. The man who served me my burger did something that none of the other chains do. He thanked me for coming, and told me to come back again. I liked the service. The burger was decent. The price was great. I may have make it a habit and come here more.

Just another chain burger place. Nothing too exciting. Not bad, just not anything great. Got the mushroom swiss char burger with fries. Burger was a decent size with good flavor. Still prefer The Counter's ground beef of all the burger places in the area. The fries were alright. I was disappointed in the flavor. And the ketchup tasted weird to me...maybe because it was catsup? Boyfriend was excited because we saw pastrami on the menu. Haven't found a good pastrami place closer than The Hat in Lake Forest. Guess we're still looking because the pastrami sandwich here was pretty terrible. Very bland flavor. Overall, just meh. There are better burger options nearby.

I'm totally in love of the original charburger with cheese. It is a classic burger with a hint of gourmet.

Charboiled chicken on sourdough with grilled onions and fries. This is what I ordered on my first visit here, and this is what made me a fan. It costs about 10 bucks and it was easily one of the top 10 sandwiches I've had in my life. While not as good as Mick's in my opinion, it's definitely a leg up on most of the other burger joints, and just about on par with In 'n Out, or a little better. Just like Arnold, I'll be back

I loves their char burger. I was pleased with the quality and taste. The patty is bigger than In n Out. The fries are good but somewhat a little too big in my opinion. I like shoestring fries more.

  • Dennis H.

The chargrill burger is excellent. I am a single patty guy so it's perfect for me. For $2.95 it is decent value so I added cheese (+0.50) and bacon (+1). I also got a side of fries and sweet potato fries ... both average. I was in a fatty mood so I decided to try the chocolate milk shake, YUMMY. I haven't been to Habit Burger in a long time so it was nice to see they are consistent in different locations.

I think I've already been to the Irvine location of the Habit about 3 times within a two week span. I couldn't believe one was open right here, as the closest one to me for the longest time was in Santa Ana! I usually go to the one in Torrance as that's closer to where I work, so could never go for dinner or the weekends, although that's not necessarily a bad thing. But sometimes you just get a hankering for onion rings and boy, do they know how to make an onion ring! I love their cobb salad, although no matter where I go, it's always to heavily dressed, so I get the dressing on the side. If I don't get the salad, I normally get a charburger meal and replace my french fries with onion rings, because don't even bother with the fries. They're nothing to write home about. The burger is always great though and cooked perfectly. If you do get the onion rings, and why wouldn't you, make sure to ask for a side of ranch dressing. OMG. Their ahi tuna burger is good too, as well as their coffee milkshake. The staff is really nice, in this location and the others I've visited - although the lines can get kind of long peak meal times. IMO, it's way better than Five Guys, but In n Out still has better fries. On the corner of Walnut and Culver, near the 5 freeway. Thanks for opening one up in Irvine!!!

I went to the charity event and thought everything went smoothly. The line moved at a slower pace than usual because they were training the cashiers and staff, but I thought the food maintained its quality. They have a really small kitchen, and you can see all the cooks lined up shoulder-to-shoulder with barely enough room to move. The dining room is also limited, but there's more room for outdoor seating. My wife had the veggie burger and enjoyed it -- I sampled some of the veggie patty and thought it was pretty flavorful. Since I just had a burger the night before, I opted for the pastrami sandwich on grilled sourdough bread. It was satisfying and a bit messy at the same time, with all the juices from the sauce and tomatoes dripping down. The biggest difference with the Habit Burger is that you can taste the chargrilled flavor from their beef patty. They've also got an off-the-menu item that I really like -- the Santa Barbara style double char burger on grilled sourdough bread with everything including grilled onions and avocado. If you can't decide on onion rings or fires, just ask for the "half and half" and you'll get both. Their burgers are on the smaller side, so if you're really hungry I would suggest getting the double char with everything. And if you really want to balls to the wall, stuff some fries and/or onion rings into your burger. Now you're talking! I'm happy that The Habit opened at Heritage Plaza, replacing Burger King. I'm not exactly sure who even eats at BK anymore, actually. But the Habit is a better replacement, anyway. Of course, now I'll be tempted to indulge in burgers since this location is closer to where I live. Have... to.. resist. I don't want to make it a Habit.

The buzz about this place is real and trustworthy. Habit burger is one of the trendiest places to eat at in Irvine. I've been to this plaza several times since Habit Burger opened and have always seen a line out the door which piqued my interest and made me curious to see what all the buzz was about. My wife and I wanted to try everything so we ordered a char burger with cheese for myself, the mushroom swiss char burger for her, an order of fries, onion rings and a chocolate milkshake to top it all off. You GOTTA try the onion rings when you come, especially with a side of ranch. Unbelievable. The portions of their onion rings are pretty small so I would suggest ordering two if you plan on sharing with a friend. The fries were really good too. Hot and crispy, just the way I like them. The burger was solid. It was juicy and had a really nice flavor to it. It's comparable to TK burger if you've ever had that. Milkshake is made with real ice cream so it's nice and thick but easy to drink. I would rate it better than an In and Out milkshake but just a notch below a Chick-fil-A milkshake. The prices are also very reasonable for what you get. The charburger with cheese that I ordered was a little over 3 bucks and the mushroom swiss was about 5 bucks. Fries and onion rings were around a couple bucks each. The environment is really cool and family friendly. There is a good amount of seating indoor as well as in the patio. Definitely would come back to Habit Burger. A really nice addition to Irvine. The employees were very warm and friendly when taking our order and also when our food was ready. Need to give a shout out to them for their great service. Thank you!

The Habit is awesome. I come here and eat every so often even though I work at a rival burger joint and feel like I'm cheating on it whenever I do. Their menu is simple with a handful of burgers, sandwiches and salads. I always get the charburger with everything on it and an order of onion rings.

i loovveee the habit! i always get the chicken club , its my absolute favorite. the habit has really good service and they are very kind by taking your plate if your finished. the burgers are delicious as well. i come here very often and i've never had a bad time. i'm always greeted and treated well. i really recommend the habit if you haven't been here already.

The Habit is a good burger spot. The Burgers earn this spot five stars however, the onion rings and fries could be better. The drinks are the usual sodas with the addition of an excellent low cal pomegranate lemonade which hits the spot. They have other menu items like sandwiches and a turkey burger but once I enter the doors it's a double char for me. This is a solid lunch or dinner option in the area.

First time coming here for a quick brunch meal. Buddy of mines heard great reviews so we decided to check it out before we start off the day. The line wasn't too bad but from the looks of the seating's, you can definitely tell that the business was booming. Location was great, it was in a plaza so you had other places to look at or head over to if you decide to grab dessert afterwards. The wait wasn't too bad but it might've been faster on another day because every order before me was for a group of people. The quality of the burger wasn't amazing but definitely different. The buns were toasted which I never have had before, and the condiments tasted very fresh indeed. The fries were very fresh as well and didn't taste like it has been sitting long or soaked in grease. I was very satisfied with my meal, so fresh that you don't realize you're actually eating a burger.

Great Place To Have A Bite To Eat! Very Friendly Staff And A Very Nice Big Clean Store. I Enjoyed Eating My Lunch Here In Irvine! I Will Visit Again If I'm Ever In Town! :)

My friend introduced me to this place and I'm forever thankful! I've heard of it but never bothered to try it. It is DELICIOUS! I think it stands right beside in n out. However the meat here is a lot better. It's thicker and cooked to a juicy delicious texture. Everything is fresh and relatively cheap too! Not a fan of sweet potatoes in general but the fries are alright for my taste. Definitely worth coming here!

Not a bad burger, considering the wave of burger joints sprouting up. Of course I compared it to In & Out. I personally prefer a Double Double. But have to admit its a different style of burger. A few things going for this place that I&O doesn't have is an ahi burger, Veggie burger, and salads. For me thats the real reason to try this place. Service is pretty quick considering this place gets slammed, especially at lunch time. Worth a try but not life changing.

I don't eat burgers but I do eat their AMAZING salads, veggie burger and albacore! Really? Such great food for such a great price? It BLOWS AWAY In-N-Out in decor, staff and food. I love the place. I love the new green bean alternative to fries and this location has the DELICIOUS strawberry lemonade. It's really a step above fast food with fast food prices. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!

For now I give it just 3 stars, because they still haven't worked out the kinks yet. When this one opened, I was ecstatic, but the line was so ridiculous it took me a while to come here. When I did, there was still a line that seemed to be non moving. There were two people at the counter, and yet the same person was ordering for literally 10 minutes. The line, which was only 5 people, took about 25 minutes to get through. The food came out relatively fast considering how long it took to order. But the fries were soggy. No bueno. The burger was alright, but this location is not on par with the other locations.

I really like this place. It seems like the trend to open burger joints. In and Out is always good but this place is a good alternative. Its priced right and its a little better that the usually fast food burger. However, it not super pricey too. So a good balance. I always order the onion rings. They are the best! Seating is somewhat limited so keep that in mind when it gets busy.

The Habit Burger is an average burger place. It doesn't do anything wrong with its burgers, but then again, it's not exactly memorable either. I've enjoyed burgers at Red Robin, In & Out, and Five Guys. If you asked me to think of the flavors of those burger joints, I can easily bring them to mind. For the Habit Burger, I honestly can't tell you what it tasted like. Nothing about the burgers and fries stood out to me. For that reason, I can only give this place three stars.

    (3)
  • Darth J.

It's more like 3.8 stars. It's a decent burger. Helps the price is on the lower side. I do like the fries and onion fries. Personally, I like in n out better. In N Out has that unique taste that you can tell apart from all the other burger stands. The Habit burger tastes like any other decent burger hamburger stand. There is nothing that I find that separates it from places like Tommys or Fat Burger.

Very friendly, helpful staff and quick service. I had a veggie burger with sweet potato fries and it was delicious. The flavorful meal made with fresh ingredients, clean establishment, and the laid back atmosphere will quickly make me a regular. I definitely would recommend for a casual evening :)

SOOOOO DISAPPOINTING! I had been waiting many weeks for the opening of The Habit, having heard good things about it. I finally tried it today. Disappointing as hell. I can't believe somebody would open up a restaurant in today's market and have such bland, boring food. I order the Char #2 (their double hamburger). The meat was spongy and had no flavour except a faint taste of char. The sauce was boring (all it was, was mayo). The bun broke in half. It was missing some things, but I couldn't figure out what. I tried salt, tried steak sauce, and that only made the taste worse. How frickin hard can it to be to make a decent French Fry? These were barely warm, limp and tasteless. They need to send their spies up to Jerry's Hot Dog restaurant in the District if they want to know what an outstanding French fry really tastes like. So ... the big questions: Would I come back? Hell no. Would I recommend it? Not on your life. Five Guys offers a much better burger, as does In N Out and Knollwoods.

I reallllllly like the bbq bacon burger. The fries are good too. I like it better than the charbroiler. The burgers aren't too big and it was good. I've been a couple of times and now that it's in irvine i could go more often if I wanted to hehe... food yum!

Love their onion rings, crunchy and not super greasy. Burger meat is juicy but if you are a guy a double is a must, since its a thin patty. It 's basically the same price for what you can get at In In Out so hubby and I really have to think about which we prefer at the the moment since they are both good choices, usually The Habit wins because of their onion rings, I think I also prefer their shakes vs in in out super sweet shakes.

Not bad but could have used some mustard. Definitely add an option for "slippery burger" (e.g. EVERYTHING) or "the basics" (NO LETTUCE OR TOMATOES) so that it doesn't fall apart in mid bite. Superior to the "bURGEr" some others like.

Since my favorite burger is In and Out... it's very hard to compete with it, because In and Out is so inexpensive, great quality, and the best spread... others usually are much more expensive... Habit was one of the few burgers that are equal in price and equal in quality... Another criteria I have is the spread... well at the Habit you can have your burger with teriyaki style... and you can add bacon and avocado to it... of course that adds to the price of the burger... plus the Habit was not very close... at the time I when I was in Santa Barbara I would eat a burger there.... but now there is a Habit where I live... so now I have a choice... of course In and Out will always be my first choice but every once and a while I might "cheat" and go next door... shhhhhhh... please keep this between you and me... :)

  • Andrew P.

Pretty happy with this place. Ordered the BBQ Bacon Char and it was well-cooked, seasoned and balanced. The patty was a little on the light side, but I tend to like a lot of meat on my hamburgers. It's a nice alternative to In-n-Out, but I think the double-double is a better value. Service was helpful and cheerful all around which is definitely a plus.

Everyone talked so highly of this place so I had to give it a try.... Unfortunately, I was not impressed. I would much rather go to in and out. I also love sweet potato fries, but I found myself throwing most of it out. Way too much oil....

So why did no one ever tell me how awesome this place is!! The best burgers I have ever had! Onion rings are amazing as well! My co-worker brought me here for lunch and I have been back several times since. Found out about the secret menu, even better! This is a must try burger joint:)

I paid for avocado on my char-burger for take-out, got home and there was no avocado and the sweet potato fries were soggy and cold 3 minutes after leaving. Seriously disappointed, unless they plan on fixing their service and giving people what they just charged extra for I don't see myself ever going back. Incredibly disappointed after my previous visits. If you're going to charge extra, the customer better get what they were charged for.

My new favorite place!!! Love the hamburgers, fries all of that! All sorts of flavors from grilled chicken, teriyaki, pineapple, grilled meat, mushroom, etc.. Even affordable prices too! Go eat here on your next FAMISHED moment!

Brings me back to my days when I was an undergrad at UCSB (a loooong time ago). Great burgers and very friendly staff - the only thing I don't like is the fact that the cashier yells the order back to the kitchen, which increases the chance of a mistake - which is why I ended up with a chicken sandwich instead of a burger the last time I was there.

In-n-Out you have nothing to worry !!! This place does not even come close to your great burgers. Burgers looked big and good. The meat had no flavor... It was horrible. Fries are not good and neither r the onion rings. I won't be going back.

  • Adam S.

Great burger joint! Im so glad they opened one in Irvine, since I usually would have to drive to Fullerton to get me a bite of this! Their burgers are delicious!!! They have Malt shakes which are OK, and their fries and Onion rings are great! Give this place a try! Everything on their menu is great! I cant seem to pic one favorite!

  • Sandy T.

We went here based upon recommendations from family members. They said it's better than In-and-Out. Tried the Charburger and thought it was nothing special. The sweet potato fries were burnt, the burger was so-so with too much mayo, kids meal was subpar. Was crowded on a weeknight with no place to sit. In-and-Out wins hands down.

This is my go-to local burger joint. Everything is cooked fresh right when you order. I've tried most of their burgers (favorite - mushroom char) and sandwiches (favorites - tuna albacore, pastrami), and they all are very tasty. Onion rings and sweet potato fries are awesome as well. They have a decent selection of salads too. The employees are super friendly, which is a plus. When they first opened up, it wasn't very busy, but now that more and more customers are coming in, it's hard to find parking sometimes. Also, I really wish they'd accept phone orders for carry out. They say that they give preference to customers who are in-store and I understand that. But they also said that they occasionally take phone orders when they're not busy. I've tried calling many times during off-hours and have never had my call answered. Oh well. Their house, their rules, I guess. But make no mistake, the food is great.

Saw that the Burger King was replaced by The Habit. There was a line outside the door to take your order, but I thought what the heck.. Food - I had the double char, my daughter had the grilled cheese, and my wife had the teriyaki burger. The double char was a decent burger, but as others said a bit bland. I remedied that by adding hot sauce and pickled jalapeños. Since my daughter rarely ever finishes a meal I tasted her grilled cheese and that was actually very tasty. They seemed to use a blend of cheeses and the bread was toasted just right. Fries were good, not soggy and the Onion rings were also very good. Size portions are large. Service - Excellent. For a fast food type of place the staff was all very polite. I marked up the review by 1 star just for their staff. Atmosphere - Upper end of a fast food style of set-up. You get in line, place your order, and hope there is an available seat. If you go during dinner rush you may have to wait for a seat inside, although the outdoor seating area seems to be less crowded. This may die down in the future... Price - Not bad.. My combo was about 7 bucks. Dbl char, fries, drink.. All 3 of us ate for under 20. Overall, if you're craving a burger and in the area you can't go wrong.

Good tasting burgers. Many reviewers compare to In-N-Out, and I am a big fan of In-N-Out, but I must admit that I think this was better than In-N-Out!. Also , these guys have onion rings and they are very tasty.

    (4)
  • Joe C.

good burger for sure, at least better than whoppers (used to be burger king on this spot) a little more expensive than In-N-Out, but it's that much more on the size and weight so i guess it's fair. compare to in-n-out, in-n-out fries are better, burgers are very similar. too crowed during lunch hour as too many HighSchoolers visits here. afternoon is better.

Delicious food and great service. BBQ bacon burger with onions and fresh avocado. Yum. I'm not sure why this place is getting dinged with lower stars. IMO beats 5 guys, in-n-out and any other run of the mill chain. Thank you for arriving and revitalizing that spot in the mini mall. BK couldn't do it, now the habit is taking charge and giving nearby Wendy's a run for its money.

Best burger I have ever had. Reasonable price, quick friendly services, and most importantly, the meat tastes so fresh. I especially love the Swiss cheese mushroom burger with that charcoal flavor, juicy but not greasy. Oh, yes. you must try their sweet potato fries....... Didn't like beef before, let alone hamburger meat, Habit Burger has changed my thought of thinking about hamburger.

Honestly, this place is so good! I was kinda skeptical at first, because I work at a great burger restaurant, and I assumed "why get burgers here if I can get them 50% off at my restaurant." But this place it totally worth it, and not expensive at all! I've tried their burgers and their chicken and it's all amazing! The sourdough bread they use is amazing! Do yourself a favor and order a chicken sandwich on sourdough and add some avocado! Every time I go back I feel like the food keeps getting better! The teriyaki sauce they use isn't my favorite, but it does give your sandwich some nice flavor. The ranch they have is surprisingly good too! It's definitely like a fast casual place, where you order at a counter and then they call your number and you pick up your food. So if your looking for more of a dining experience I would go somewhere else, but for a quick bite to eat with amazing food, this place should be on your list!

I always enjoying bringing business associates from out of town to places like this. Huge fan of the char-burgers and sweet tater fries. I will not compare to In and Out, The Hat or 5 Guys. It's just a good lunch time burger joint.

  • Lyon H.

I've had the Habit at some other locations and this one is no different from the others. The food here is pretty cheap, with burgers being under $5 if you don't get any add-ons. I had the Mushroom Swiss Burger Protein style (Lettuce wrapped) and it was pretty damn good. The patty is thicker than In-N-Out but still packed with flavor and meat juice since the patties are all chargrilled. The service here is good as well. Staff is friendly and welcoming, and the decor at the location is pretty cool. It's kind of hard to believe that this location used to be a Burger King! To sum it up, the Habit is a great place to go if you're looking for something that's in between fast food and a sit-down restaurant burger.

I am giving it four stars based upon the chicken sandwich I ordered. I have never been to a Habit Burger before so I was not sure what their menu entailed. I do not eat red meat so I was a little hesitant to come here but was assured by several people they have chicken options. Being new to the place I have to admit it took me a minute to order but the cashier was nice enough to realize I was a first timer. I ordered the chicken sandwhich on sourdough with teryaki sauce. Omg I could not believe how fast I enhaled the sandwich it was so good! I liked how you are given the option of what kind of bread you want your sandwich on. I also ordered fries which were ok. I will definately be back for another chicken sandwich and may even try out some of their other menu items.

  • Young M.

Very high quality food compare to the price. In this price range, you could go to McDonald, Berger Kin, Calr's Jr., or Jack in the Box. But, I prefer this place. I took one star off just because I think In-N-Out is slightly better. That's all.

Drove by and saw the Habit is now open! I've been a fan of the Habit since they opened in Fullerton, so I'm glad to see this one closer to me, Ordered my usual lettuce-wrapped double char w/ cheese and sweet potato fries. I do like that the meat was juicy and had a good flavor. The sweet potato fries were crunchy, crispy good. The staff is friendly and kept the place clean. There is patio seating available, but I prefer indoors in winter time. I do like it. The parking can be a bit busy, so you might have to park a-ways in the lot. One of these days I'll try the BBQ bacon burger wrapped in lettuce.

Very tasty and reasonably priced burgers. I think it tastes better than Five Guys or In and Out. It has more of a "fast casual" feel as opposed to "fast food" like Carl's Jr. If you want to toss the bun, they have VERY GOOD lettuce wrap burgers. The Chocolate shakes and malts are excellent AND it's a great price (only $2.99!)

  • Joshua S.

Decent stuff. We ordered the teriyaki burger, the mushroom burger, the cobb salad, with sides of onion rings, sweet potato and regular fries. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but each of us left wishing there was just a bit more flavor in the burgers. Winners for the evening: chocolate milk shake, cobb salad, and onion rings with ranch. YUM.

Not bad. Not bad at all. I will say it's a competitor to In-N-Out. Low prices, delicious burger. The patty is pretty thin, like In-N-Out's as well, so a double patty burger is recommended for them meat lovers. There's no special spread. It's just mayo. I asked for light mayo, and found that it was a little too much for me, and my sister said there was too much mayo in hers since she didn't ask for light. The combo and cheese+mayo+onion rings made it way too greasy for her, but my double charburger with light mayo (no cheese) was perfect. They also give you the option of choosing between a white or wheat bun. The wheat bun tastes great and isn't dry at all. I'd come here again, but honestly, I think In-N-Out beats it by 1/2 a star. There's just something about it... The Habit beats Five Guys for sure though.

  • Rhett S.

Dare I say better than In-N-Out? maybe.... This was my first time experiencing The Habit Burger. I had pretty high expectations as I've heard their char burgers were quite good. To sum it up, The Habit is everything In-N-Out is missing... like wise, In-N-Out is everything the Habit is missing. I would call their relationship to that of a symbiotic one. The Habit takes the simplicity of In-N-Out and adds that little extra new age spin while keeping prices low and quality high. The Habit is actually pretty nice inside. Exposed wood beams, pendant lights, booths, and tables. I had the Teriyaki Char Burger and the Mushroom Swiss Charburger, fries, and an "on-the-house" vanilla malt. I thought both burgers were tasty. I enjoyed the char flavor that you don't get from In-N-Out and the added additions (mushroom, pineapple, swiss cheese). In addition, there is a condiment station with peppers and pickled jalapenos which was very nice. Both burgers required that wide-open-mouth contortion to physically eat them (something not found at any fast food burger joint). The buns had the perfect amount of rimmed toasting. I guess my only gripe would be the mayonnaise which I don't like. The spread at In-N-Out is much better. Overall a good place to enjoy a burger that doesn't break the bank when the lines at In-N-Out are too long.

  • JG F.

came in before closing the other night to satisfy a burger craving. Ordered a cheese Charburger and fries. This was a take out. A short five minute drive home and this burger was soggy. Bun was falling apart, burger pretty much flavorless. Fries were cooked to order and okay. This is my third time to a Habit and am not impressed with the burger. Low quality beef is flavorless. Back to the Mom and Pop Burger places since the franchise burgers are overcooked with poor ingredients.

    (2)
  • Lara B.

It was good. That's about all. Not mind blowing and it sure doesn't beat an In-N-Out burger, but it was good. I've gone a couple times, once during a rush and once when the place was practically empty. Both times I waited at least fifteen minutes for my food so I wasn't thrilled about that. Staff was really nice and helpful but looked at me funny and questioned when I asked for BBQ sauce and ranch. Don't think that it was a bank buster request, but hey those little plastic cups can get expensive I guess.

Yay finally got to try this place!!! First things first....the service was impeccable....super friendly.....always made sure we were ok.....think cuz my friend had a cute lil baby.....but yeah they were awesome! The burgers were alright.....good, but not to die for....well hope none of us have to die for a great burger but yeah I digress ha. Think Five Guys had better flavors overall....as well as In-N-Out.....but one thing that might change my opinion, would be if I added bacon and possibly avocado next time =) Yum right? I only ordered the standard cheeseburger with all the fixins. Fries and a drink as well.....they did have other options but just wanted to get a feel for the place. Don't get me wrong...I did like the joint, but I totally want to try to customize my burger next time. Oh and replace the normal fries with the sweet potato ones. Great price for what you get....oh this place gets balls to the wall crowded so just make sure to alot for some starving time as you wait. Balls to the WALL!!!

Fantastic food and quality. Best burger chain around. The teriyaki pineapple burger is the way to go, but regardless you can't go wrong. Add a salad if you are feeling a little guilty, I recommend them as well.

If you work in this plaza, you would highly appreciate this burger joint & If you like pineapple, Get the teriyaki charburger, SO GOOD I agree it's not In-N-Out in both taste or price. but I'd rather not drive up to the market place location and wait at least 15mins in the drive through, lunch time gets really busy over there! here, at least in my first 3 visits the wait time wasn't as bad... the burger was fresh and tasty very welcoming staff, they maintain the cleanliness of the tables... great interior & space design (comparing to BK they did a great job) I'm a fan

"Great customer service, manager contacted me about the buzzers and I feel much better about their setup now, changing my rating!" OMG, just realized that this is my 100th review after I posted it. Had to come back and post this disclaimer, if I had realized it was the 100th review for me, I would have reviewed something more fun....oh well.... Another sit down casual burger joint. Sandwiched between 5 Guys and The Counter. $8.20 for a double char cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and a soda. The taste was average. Nothing special about this place at all. I would stick to In-N-Out or The Counter if I'm in the mood for something nicer. Also, instead of calling you name they give you a pager that buzzes when your order is ready, I find this very disgusting, just think about how many people have touched that pager and it probably never gets cleaned and then you're supposed to eat a burger and fries with your hands? ewww...nice idea in concept but just call out my name please...

So when we went on a Saturday night kinda early, the line snaked around the corner and we waited for about 10 minutes to place our order. It's kinda weird cuz they give you a flashy pager thing that goes off when your order is ready to be picked up at the counter. Everyone was really nice and helpful... A bit overly eager to help, but I'm sure that will wear off... As others have noted, the patties are really thin, and a bit undercooked in my opinion. I got the mushroom Swiss and it was really bulked up with lettuce, which I don't mind, but others might. I really liked the onion rings, my husband liked the fries. His chocolate malt was really good, my vanilla malt tasted like frozen milk and was gross. He commented that the bacon on his burger was thicker than the patty. I'd eat there again, but I'd prefer in and out.

OMG!!! I was soooo waiting for one of these to open up around Irvine. I just knew it was a matter of time. So when I saw that the old Burger King was taken over by The Habit I was super excited. What's that horn or trumpet noise sound effect when something doesn't live up to the hype? Whaaaaa, whaaa, whaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I mean it wasn't bad but once again kind of like 5 Guys this is supposed to be an In and Out killer!? NOPE! In & Out has nothing to worry about. It's good, ill most likely go back but in my opinion the best burger in town so far is The Counter and this ain't The Counter nor is it an In & Out. Good try though.

I've been to the habit before but now there is one across the street from my house! To be honest the last time I went to the habit, the one in Lake Forest on El toro.. It was good but not something I absolutely loved. However this one was new and figured why not give it a shot. Immediately after walking into the place I was greeted by a very nice and happy hostess/cashier. She immediately put a smile on my face and woke me up. Not going to lie.. Was half asleep from playing GTA 5 all night. Ordered a double combo with onion rings. Once I got the order I immediately noticed the bottom burger bun was already falling apart for no apparent reason. This could be just the cook noticed it was falling apart before he started making the burger but continued to use it anyways.. it wasn't oily so that was good! The burger tasted surprisingly good for the price. Compare the prices to fast food, but quality is a lot better. The onion rings were very good as well. I'd say some of the best I've ever had. The Rings cut nicely with each bite but they are so good you will attempt to eat the entire thing at once. I will be back to try some other stuff on the menu.

In short, this place is doing everything right. Polite, friendly, and speedy service. Great food (I usually get the veggie burger but the mushroom Swiss is awesome too, never a complaint from my more carnivorous friends regarding their orders either) and all priced very reasonably. Not sad to see the Burger King go (which was replaced by habit) and by the looks of it, this place is here to stay. Keep up the great work!

Better than In-n-Out! AND... they have more than burgers. Been there twice now and loved it both times.

I feel like this is going to be my new favorite burger place. I live so close by, the prices are so low, and the food is good! I was in shock when my parents told me another burger joint opened up where the old Burger King was. That BK was where many of my high school lunch periods were spent! It was weird walking in for the first time and finding the place completely different. The Habit has an open kitchen and a very cool vibe compared to its dated predecessor. Their burgers are very good, and I like that I can see my food being prepared. I don't like their buns and their fries aren't the best, but despite my nitpicking I did enjoy my first trip. I would highly recommend their onion rings. I also liked how I could get some jalapeno slices and add them to my burger for more of a kick. My mom likes this place because there's more variety than at In-N-Out, but all in the same price range. The people who work here are friendly and helpful too, and hopefully this lasts!

They do charbroiled right and they know how to grill a chicken for their sandwiches. Service is quick, so it's good for lunch, but just as good for dinner. Their sweet potato fries and regular fries are delicious as well. I'd recommend their chicken sandwich with avocado or their bacon burger!

So I gave this place another try because I wanted the people I was with to try it... I still would give this place 2.5 stars. And the people I was with decided that 5 Guys has better burgers. Their BBQ chicken salad was actually decent. Chicken was tasty and freshly grilled. Veggies were fresh. I got this salad because it doesn't have cheese on it. I hate cheese on most of my food but thats another story. Burger w/Bacon was a little disappointing. Sorry to say but the bacon didn't do anything for the burger and usually bacon tastes good w/everything. Maybe they didn't put enough. I like the bacon burger @ 5 guys a lot better. Their tri tip steak sandwhich was okay. You can either choose bbq sauce or teriyaki sauce. The steak was juicy and not dry. Bread was soft but nothing special. They put way too much mayo on this sandwhich. I love french fries!!!! Didn't get to try the fries last time but did today. There isn't anything special about their fries. I love fries that are rustic and seasoned well or skinny fries are awesome too. The fries at Habit are just regular fries. One thing I have to say about this place is the service is really good. Staff is super nice. But as long as service isn't horrible, I would pick good food over great service any day of the week!

I love the Habit! My go to burger place! The service is always amazing and have never had a bad experience at any of their multiple locations. I would definitely recommend their teriyaki char if you like pineapples in your burgers. The meat is always cooked medium rare and the pineapple just adds a sweet tang to every bite. Their onion rings are also amazing as well as their sweet potato fries. I would also recommend their shakes/cones! In a nut shell: Great service, food, and quality. IMO: better than five guys and in n out *GASP*

Three stars. This is truly a 3.5 but ultimately, I leaned toward three (instead of four) because I just wish the burgers and fries had more of an oomph to it. The burgers here are better than the ones you find at your typical fast food stops (this includes In & Out...). Though I wasn't quite blown away by anything my first two times here, I have changed my mind about this place because of one reason. We'll get to that life changing moment shortly. The food that sucked: I wasn't particularly fond of the Charburger. I mean, it's probably a healthier and cheaper alternative than a Big Mac (make of that statement what you will), but it just wasn't anything spectacular. Mind you, this is exactly how I feel about most burger joints. Noteworthy: I think it's great that they let you pick what kind of bread you want. The fries are whatever as well but the onion rings however, now that's a side worth getting. Overall though, it just didn't seem like anything special. If you were to try one thing...: So I was really bummed out. I expected more quality food. It wasn't until my roommate told me about the TRI TIP STEAK SANDWICH that it forever changed my opinion of this place. It was in a free-fall toward 2 star oblivion. Now, because of this one sandwich; this one delectable, mouth-watering, juicy, insert-any-adjective-that-causes-your-mouth-to-salivate sandwich, The Habit is slowly making its way back into my good graces. I get the Tri Tip Steak Sandwich on sourdough bread with everything on it and teriyaki sauce. The pieces of steak are so tender and flavorful, it'd give most steakhouses a run for their money. This sandwich single-handedly got me to go back to The Habit. This is a MUST ORDER when you go. F THE CHARBURGER. I also gotta say that the cashiers and the servers are some of the nicest people working in the fast-food industry. OK, might be too nice a compliment, but they're good peoples. A nice smile and a "thank you" or a "you're welcome" goes a long way your customers. The employees here get that. I went with a three star review because the other weak options on the menu do not make up for the one tasteful sandwich that is carrying that menu. I could've gone up to four stars just based on the Tri Tip Steak Sandwich alone but that wouldn't have been fair. Either way, I'm coming back for this sandwich and nothing else.

I've been eating at The Habit for years from the original Santa Barbara to Thousand Oaks and now this one in Irvine. I must say that this one is the absolute worst! This is too bad because this place really does tarnish their good name. The service is the absolute worse. I ordered on line and came to pick up. Not only did I have to wait over 10 minutes but when they bagged everything up and as it sat on the counter as the girl started to read my receipt of what I ordered, "I" had to physically check since they screwed it up the last time and sure enough, they missed an entire meal AGAIN. I don't get it - what is the point of reading off what I ordered with the bag in front of you and not physically check to see what's inside the bag?? It's all fake customer service! Then when I pointed it out politely, the snotty girl acted like she was bothered that she had to go get the missing item which took another 5 minutes since they had to cook it. No apologies and she just put it in the bag on top of the other food. There are tons of better burger places out there that actually care about their business and customers so don't bother with this one!!!

Loved it today. Got a grilled chicken sandwich on wheat with no sauce. I don't like the sauce on this sandwich for some reason. Onion rings. And a raspberry limeade. Or strawberry limeade. Whatever it was it hit the spot. Real courteous staff too like all Habit's. Weird how nice they make them be. It's just fast food. But I'll take it. Burgers are solid here too.

First off, I really wanted to try the place out since there are not many non-coporate or attempts of looking non-corporate such as the Habit. So here goes. After going in and ordering, the help and the place looked very nice and clean. With only one order taker, it took a little longer than I thought it should, as they should have two people at the counter taking orders since it was still within that business lunch time window of 11am to 1 pm. I got there at 12:45. I placed my order, honestly I thought the burger was just OK. Nothing to brag about. I had heard of the The Habit these past few years by Orange Co Register Reporter, Nancy Luna. She knows of it, from the time her and her family had traveled to Santa Barbara, where the Habit has been in business for years. To me it reminded me of a lessor form of an "Astro Burger", a chain of Greek owned hamburger stands that were located in LA County. Since this was my first time there, I just order the the single, without all the rabbit food, just meat and bun, as I just wanted to taste the real flavor of the meat. As I said before it was just OK, more bread to meat ratio. the Meat was your typical pre-made thin meat patty, with the meat being cooked well done, which for that size of meat burger, I think it killed the taste of the beef. Next time, I will try their "Santa Barbara" Sourdough Patty Melt and give them a second chance. I also see that parking can be a problem, as they share a small parking lot with other businesses next to them and the Chevron Gas Station customers. I hope your visit will be better.....Also are there any really good juicy burgers in Irvine, that cost less than a house payment? If so, please let me know!

I had the Charburger with cheese and everything in it. We shared fries and onion rings. The burger was so good it made my taste buds sing. The patty was quite juicy without tasting greasy and the veggies were very fresh. The relish complemented the burger perfectly. The fries were crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. The onion rings were very crunchy. The seating area is very clean and an employee would walk around and ask if you'd like a refill or if they could help with eliminating some clutter. I would definitely eat here again.

I like the habit and I have eaten at several different locations. The food is always good and the prices are reasonable and better than some of their competitors. The Habit matches up strong against In_N_Out, G Burger, Smash Burger and Five Guys.

Just love it. They char their burgers which gives them a great meaty flavor and texture. Really, it is the only way to cook a hamburger. These guys do it right.

While waiting for my son to finish bball at Irvine High we discovered this hidden gem. Best burger for the money and time waiting in Irvine...even better than In and Out. Salad is also pretty darn good. Also very accommodating to my son's peanut allergies. Huge thumbs up to this chain!

My first time here. I have to say I have had way better burgers. I got the double char burger and yes you taste the char but that's it. I just didn't' taste any seasoning at all on it. Very bland. Especially with just mayo, very so so. I did like the onion rings but that's it. I'll take in n out, five guys or even a Big Mac any day over this place.

Best burger in town! However...they consistently get the order wrong. Best to go with the default or ask for stuff to be removed and then add the stuff you want (e.g., onions, pickles, ketchup, etc.) after you get your order.

This is by far the best burger place I have been to in California! Even though the place was crowded, the service was quick and friendly. Plus the food was deeeelish! I will be back soon to consume more deliciousness!
