We arrived technically before they were open on a Sunday but three tables of regulars were already seated. We got a corner booth and the helpful waitress quickly us a good hot cup of coffee. The menu is perfect for a Sunday morning breakfast. Interestingly, all eggs are double yolks, so 2 eggs is 4 yolks. I ordered chicken fried steaks and eggs. The hand battered steak was perfectly cooked and served smothered in a tasty gravy along with crisp hash browns and homemade white toast. Others in out party ordered a wide range of entrees an they were not disappointed. A couple of quick tips the portions are huge so you might consider the half order. For example the 1/2 omelette is two eggs whereas the full is four. Unless you're sharing go for the half order of biscuits and gravy as well as it is huge.

Good food, large portions, good service. Seated right away. Will dine there again! We were there for breakfast on a Saturday morning!

Atmosphere was nice. Told us 15 minutes to be seated faster. Place was crowded. Waitress right away. Placed our order. Waited for 35 minutes waitress came back to tell us our order was in the pan. We are starving at this point. She didn't offer an apology or a discount. We walked out. Can't tell you if the food was any good.

My friend who grew up in Tucson recommended that we meet here for breakfast. I was not looking forward to it based on what I had read on Yelp, but since it was 'her town" I felt I shouldn't say anything. Well, we had a great breakfast. We were seated immediately, had a great waiter, had great food. She had cakes and eggs and I had a small skillet. Prices were reasonable and waiter was super attentive. Only issue was they serve RC products not Coke or Pepsi. Kind of unusual. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast.

Love it! Great family style place filled with Tucson best residents. I always ask for Rose's section because she's just a sweet heart of a server and always remembers what my last order was ... even if I hadn't been there for months. I love the multigrain pancakes (NEVER DRY) and you get double the egg's if you order 2 you get 4. Take your AAA Card and get 10% off your meal ... that's cool since I usually leave the saving with my server since she always does a great job.

Service was good. Food, so-so. Scrambled eggs in an omelette shape instead of an omelette. I bet if I came back and tried something else the rating would go up, because there were a lot of delicious things around me. Unfortunately, my over-done, dry "omelette" wasn't among them.

Started a monthly breakfast here with a few friends and for good reason. The staff is friendly and eager to please. The decor is comfortable. With all that out of the way, it's the food and service that has made Hungry Fox our favorite. We make it Thursdays around 0900, have never had to wait, and leave happy...js

Food is pretty good, especially if you don't mind a bit extra grease. The decor is a little weird. Something to remember, they do take reservations so if people come in after you and are seated before you that doesn't mean the business is racist. I got the chicken fingers which were good but I would have liked more. There was only three small pieces. The servers aren't going to be accused of being peppy.

I wanted to visit this restaurant since my younger days frequenting Kon Tiki right next door. My, have times changed. I no longer visit Kon Tiki, but I have remained enthusiastic about trying out the Fox. What's more to say? It is your quintessential diner, right down to teal wood paneling, the nutcracker collection and senior specials. Oh, yes, I imagine myself visiting this place at least once a week in my 80s. Purple hair and all. Everyone seemed to be a regular. I can see why. Many people were called by their first names. You get a good sense of the sweetness and concern from servers when they are dealing with their patrons. Seniors and military veterans get optimal treatment. The food? Well, it's moderately OK. I went with the Benedict. The hollandaise taste it like it came in powder form from a package. But the eggs were perfectly poached, which was very pleasant. The hash browns were surprisingly lacking in flavor. I would definitely say give this place at least one go. Decide for yourself your impression. Oh, they also have a shop out front remnant of Blue Willow. Great spot for last minute gifts. Trinkets, scarves, hokey cards, eyeglass cases. That's sort of thing.

Hungry Fox is one of those neighborhood diners where Flo and Madge competently rule the roost, bantering with regulars and remembering personal preferences. What a roost it must be to produce all those double yoke eggs! They are buttery yellow and delicious. I imagine their coop must be home to mastiff-sized leghorns. Plus they soft scrambled them perfectly to order. My side biscuit and gravy arrived lukewarm, though, and piping-hot gravy completely transforms into paper mache paste in flavor and texture once cold. My biscuit too was cold and cakey. The hashbrowns are near-perfect here, and the service always fast friendly. For a mid-town brekkie, the Fox is still a worthy joint.

The Hungry Fox is a lovely little country cafe nestled in Tucson on Broadway. We went there for brunch recently and were absolutely delighted! Walking in to the restaurant is so familiar and welcoming! You can't help but smile at all the country charm! If you like collections- this is the restaurant for you! There are so many country themed collections on the wall! You'll not be lacking for conversation staters for sure! Our favs were the cast iron skillet clock, the nutcrackers and of course the fox paintings and drawings! Fun stuff! The food was good - nothing super awesome to write home about really. But just good and satisfying. The wait staff were very friendly and there was almost no wait to be seated or to get our food. Our waitress was very attentive and our water glasses never stayed empty for long. With that said - you come to this restaurant for good food that doesn't break the bank in a fun atmosphere! I love local places like this! The Hungry Fox just recently celebrated its 50th anniversary too! So not only is it hfill of character, but The Hungry Fox is a classic institution in the Tucson food scene! Cheers to 50 more years !

This place is amazing. Food is great and portions are medium to large. You get plenty of great food for the money spent. The staff is wonderful and always happy to see you and serve you!! Restaurant owner at times even comes by your table to visit. We have groups of 20 to 40 people we take to use the banquet room and everyone is very happy. Go check it out and tell Rick that Dale sent you!

My multi-racial family loves to have brunch at the Hungry Fox. They always give us a warm and friendly greeting. Sometimes we call ahead for a table so it is ready when we arrive, that is a really cool thing they do. Their menu consists of all kinds of breakfast and comfort foods, oh and don't forget the double yolk eggs. We have also held several lunch events in their banquet room and the food and service is just as good as eating in the restaurant.

I got the fried chicken off my Paypal app w/ Eat24. It didn't ask me what sides I wanted at all. So when I got it, I got Mashed Potatoes, brown gravy and peas. I wish that the sides option was offered because I hate peas. Anyways, the chicken was suppose to be Honey Fried Chicken. More like too much breading and not enough meat. The potatoes taste like they're from a box and the gravy isn't tasty at all. I wish I could get my money back to be honest.

Stopped here because I had a restaurants.com coupon of $10 when you spend $20. The staff gave no hassle with it. Enjoyed our service dog, with no hassles or questions. Food was fast, and tasted good. Had a gift shop with reasonable prices. Bought an $11 plush fox, 2 meals and an appetizer and before the coupon total was $35. So even if I didn't have it, it would have been a good deal.

Went to the fox yesterday. It was our first time there. It was alright. We got seated right away and the waitress was pleasant. As far as the food, it was just okay, nothing spectacular. I'd probably eat there again but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Typical diner foods. I had a short stack of pancakes which were Ok but a bit gritty, it seemed the batter contained part corn meal, or grits? Didn't go well with the rest of the cake, which seemed like a usual flour pancake batter. Coffee was standard and they kept it filled. Service was good, no complaints there. I tried someone in my groups hash browns, which were nice and crisp. Same with the fries and onion rings- quite greasy though. Nothing really jumped out at me on the menu and I wasn't interested in a $10 salad which they had several of. It's quite bright inside, lots of flair. If I come back I'll try their chicken fried steak or biscuits and gravy. Prices are a little steep for basic diner fare, so I'm not sure my return will be in the near future.

A very good spot to stop for breakfast. They serve huge home cooked meals, and even have homemade bread for toast, which is delicious. You can tell the place has been here a while when you walk in, the décor is pretty old school. They know how to serve a good meal.

  • Jessica H.

OK, so The Hungry Fox is your classic diner -- divey, greasy food, and charming wait staff. It does well what it knows. But it's not like it has the best pancakes or an omelette to die for. I'd like to love The Hungry Fox more, but the last time we went it gave us some intestinal distress (which, to be honest, isn't too uncommon with classic breakfast fare). Also I'm totally weirded out by the covert über Christian phrases tucked into the table tents and menu. Last time our service was less than stellar, so we haven't been back since. There are plenty more executing places to get breakfast in Tucson anyway -- and that way I can skip the indoctrination (which, if you haven't found, you should seriously check out).

  • Dirk T.

First and foremost the food is delicious. I have tried just about every item on the breakfast menu, and a few of their lunch items. The portions are great, the price points are excellent, and the homestyle food is spot on for what you would expect. In the past they had customers pay the check up front at the register, which made for crowds. That has changed luckily, and now the waiter/waitress takes your check at the table. Unfortunately there is no credit card booklet, just a paper check dropped off, and usually before you are finished eating. The seating can feel a bit crowded at times, and if you are in a party of five or more, you may want to call ahead to reserve one of the few round booths they have. The Hungry Fox is a small homestyle restaurant, that does all the right things, albeit a few places it could improve. Understand the size of the restaurant and the day/time you are going, and you will have a great experience here!

Food is ok. Menu is diverse. Service is ok. Frankly, my over all feel for this place is that it is much more about quantity of food over quality....

Interracial couples not preferred! We received eye rolls and huffing when we answered as seating with 2 adults and 1 baby. They told (not asked us) to sit...while they seated 4 other couples ahead of us...within a 10 minute window. There was no eye contact, no explanation, and no wait time expectancy. We expect to be treated better than this and rather spend our money on those that want it, because apparently this establishment does not.

Hubby and I came in after Mass today. Was a little wait, but only while the table was bussed. I got the Eggs Benedict with hash browns and an additional side of fruit. Hubby ordered the Green Corn Tamales with double yolk eggs, sunny-side up and hash browns. My eggs were cooked perfectly as was everything else. All I could have asked for was the hollandaise to be made with more lemon juice. I really enjoyed everything. Hubby got exactly what he expected. The green corn tamales were what he thought they'd be for a non-Mexican restaurant. But he liked their taste. The sunny-side up eggs were cooked perfectly and that's a big deal. Our waitress was attentive even though the restaurant was extremely busy. We enjoyed our brunch here and will probably be back again soon!

I've eaten at this restaurant for years, mostly because of how close it is to me. It's nothing special, decent enough food though somewhat overpriced. But after today's experience, I will not be returning. It's not the first time I've been made to feel by the managing staff that a table-for-one was an inconvenience, as though I was taking up too much space while not racking up a large enough bill. But today was the first time they vocally made me feel that I was to be rushed out the door. When I arrived there were plenty of open booths, so when the greeter asked if I'd prefer a booth or a table, I requested a booth. She turned to the assistant manager and told her that she'd seat me on the other side of the short dividing wall, but the assistant manager responded by audibly sighing, looking around, and then pointing, telling her, "Put him down there, she's fast." She sounded so put-out by my presence and her statement made me feel like she was seating me in a section where I could quickly be served and hurried out the door. Then, before I'd even had a chance to look over the menu, the assistant manager came up from behind me and started curtly asking, before she'd even arrived beside my booth, "What would you like to order?" I was shocked at how abrupt and rude she was being, so uncharacteristically I actually said something, stating, "I really feel like you're trying to rush me out of here." She then got very loud, telling me, "I'm not. You don't have to be mean." I responded with, "I'm not being mean, you're being rude and I'd prefer to wait for my waitress." She got louder still, drawing a lot of attention toward me, again saying, "I'm not being rude, you don't need to be mean. I'm just trying to help her, she's new and it's busy..." Then she just kind of glared at me. I was expecting her to ask me to leave, I was personally debating just getting up to leave, but eventually she turned and left. Then as my waitress approached the assistant manager said to her, again very loudly, "He won't let me take his order." Thankfully the waitress was very nice, and I apologized to her, telling her that I was sorry, I'd just been made to feel very unwelcome. My food arrived faster than usual, but I no longer wanted to be there so I took most of my meal to go (...and tipped well, it wasn't her fault their management is abysmal). They won't have to worry about me taking up space again in the future. I'll be taking all my weekend breakfast business to Bread and Butter or Jerry Bobs.

After a pretty crappy experience at an Urgent Care center, we decided to go out for brunch for a quick bite to eat. And what better place than The Hungry Fox? A place of good food for an incredibly good price!! Plus they have a little store you can shop while waiting. Since their food is good and the prices very reasonable, naturally there was a wait. However it wasn't bad and less than 30 minutes later we were seated and had ordered. (Trust me--this was way better than the Urgent Care experience). Our food arrived quickly and it was so good that all we could do was stuff our faces. The toast and hash browns were absolutely delicious. I've never found myself enjoying hash browns so much--it's the way they are supposed to taste. Overall excellent little local place. Even the service is good. The only reason it's a 4 star review is that we did have a couple of issues with things being unclean (one of the napkins we were given was dirty and my water had something in it). Otherwise this place is great!

Excellent food! Cinnamon rolls are huge and inexpensive! Every table was full, but the wait was less than 20 minutes.

Long wait. Poor service. Small portions. Average food. Even if they had gotten my order right the first time, the wait was too long. Not impressed at all like I wanted to be.The only good thing was the homemade bread

I admit, I avoided this place for a while because of the reviews, but when I went I got a schooling on what to believe when you read things on the internet. This place was very home-y, the waitress very attentive, and the food delicious. I was totally not expecting double yolk eggs! As I'm a local dive breakfast junkie, I'm sure I'll return some day.

If I could give them no stars I would. I went in with my fiancé and daughter when it was dead after the breakfast rush and got seated right away. But for some reason after 15 minutes, we heard from no one. We got no water and when we stood up and left no one batted an eye. All the mean while 3 waitress were within 6 feet ignoring us. I guess they just don't care for the business. Some people's reviews say they're rasist. Maybe. All I know it that the food here isn't worth the risk of horrible service. Sad I used to like this place, but I'm better off, the food has a ton of sodium in it anyway, made we swell like crazy when I was preggo. Should have dumped them then. However, I did notice a white elder lady being seated and helped as soon as she sat down. Something to chew on. We went to Bobo's on Grant after we left. In the amount of time we were ignored at the Hungry Fox, we were seated with our food at Bobo's that says something.

I see that several of the previous reviews for this place were not very good.... If you really want to know how this place is then you should give this place a chance because I always had great experiences here! I love the family-oriented, warm, and inviting environment. The servers are always delightful and they always make sure our table is well taken care of! The food is very classic and home style (chicken fried steak, pancakes, omelets, etc). This is the place I come to whenever I want to enjoy a laid back brunch.

Despite all the negative reviews I saw on here before I went, I went anyways and had a great experience. Great service, friendly atmosphere, great food. The restaurant reminds me of a country store. I personally love places like that. Give this place a shot, I'm sure you will like it too.

Have been going here for over 15 years. The owner has lost their mind. Breakfast sandwich, cup of coffee, Chicken friend steak and eggs. one orange juice ($4.00) for juice! Total just under $27.00. With tip over $30 for average breakfast at best. Tucson avoid this place. So many better places to eat for a much much better value. So long Hungry Fox.

Will not be coming back. Every restaurant has a wait on a Sunday afternoon we are aware and most times don't mind the opportunity to chat before a meal, the wait wasn't bad, about 20-30min. We Came in with 4 children between the ages of 8-9mos, all very well behaved and fully entertained during the wait. My first complaint is there is no room to breathe while waiting. It is quite a miserable arrangement. When our party of 8 was called, right off the bat out waitress was rude and impatient, asking us for our orders repeatedly only minutes After sitting down. We adults were making conversation, singing a silly song to the kids and laughing, but nothing outrageous. That's when we were approached by management and asked to keep it down, as other patrons were getting offended. It was definitely loud as it was, as we struggled to hear each other, but it was absolutely unnecessary to single us out. I in fact used to frequent this establishment as a teen, with a bunch of ridiculous friends and never once were we treated so poorly. When it came time for our orders each plate was brought by a different waitress, all of whom were giving dirty looks and impatiently asking where the plates belonged. My son was the last to get his order, which was wrong. We didn't bother to ask for them to change it. We will never come back (which I'm sure they don't mind) and I would deeply reconsider your decision before coming to this establishment. If no stars were an option they would be deserving.

My wife and I were directed here from two separate referrals. We had went to Rosa's Mexican Resturant the previous night with rave reviews from some locals and we were both disappointed, enough about that. This place exceeded my expectations for Quality, Service, Price, Friendly Staff and serving portions. I had the Country Benedict and it was amazing (I normally don't eat like this). There was 5 of us and zero dissatisfied. I would highly recommend this for breakfast. Can't comment on any other serving times but I can't imagine they would not be exceptional.

The service here is rude and stinks. (Update they ARE RACISTS) This place used to be great. So great that on my birthday it was the only thing I wanted to do. So I grabbed my family and went to have my favorite breakfast. The place was empty (save for three other tables) and the waitstaff of approx 5 were being social and chatty. We sat for 10 mins and never once did a single person acknowledged our existence. We vocally say "this is rediculous" and got up to leave ..when the server looks at us and says "have a nice day"....rude. needless to say ...I am not going back here again.

This was our first time eating at The Hungry Fox. Granted it's Memorial Day, the place was packed. The staff seemed more bothered and put out than excited to see a full house. The person that greeted us seemed annoyed and our waitress never even cracked a smile or thanked us for our patronage. Although the food was good, it was overpriced, and we will not be returning due to the fact that the atmosphere was so terrible.

My wife, child and I walked into the Hungry Fox at about 11:20 am Sunday morning. At the time, there was no one waiting to be seated. The greeting\gift shop area was empty. The receptionist politely took our name. Unfortunately that's when the good experience ended. As other customers trickled through the door their names would be taken and they would be promptly taken to their tables. Meanwhile, at the front my family quietly waited at the front. We sat and walked in the lobby for 10 to 15 minutes watching other customers come in and be sat down. No one approached us directly to explain why four parties that showed up after us were taken to a table while they had us wait. The parties that showed up after us and got sat down ranged in sizes from two to six. We figured that they either don't like Hispanics (me), they don't like blacks (my wife) or they don't like babies, but they definitely something in us that they felt warranted that we be ignored. After that we decided to eat at our regular breakfast place, The Good Egg. They never disappoint and always value their customers!

    (1)
  • Mark S.

Their breakfasts include "double yolk eggs", which is to say, if you ask for one egg you get two. Their thick, fluffy toast made from homemade bread should not be missed. Bottom line - leave your healthful habits at the door. Needless to say, the portions at breakfast are plentiful enough to fuel you for the day, but so are the prices. Our last visit rang up just over fifty bucks for four people. More than you are likely to pay for standard breakfast food elsewhere. I really don't mind the prices because at least you feel satisfied when you leave. If you come during the lunch hour, just order breakfast. It's what Hungry Fox does well, period.

  • Giovanni A.

The food was decent but not something I'd like every Sunday morning on my errand day. The amount of food they serve is well worth the price but the quality is less than your typical Denny's. Overall, it was a good place to eat at but once in a while is good for me. Try it. You might like it.

Just came back from a really disappointing lunch. The service was slow, the atmosphere was a little too 'kitchy' for my personal taste, the prices were higher than most AND there was not only a hair in the overpriced salad, but there were several flies and gnats flying around as we ate. The most disappointing thing was that we asked for an alteration to our dish only to find, AFTER we received the bill, that there was an up-charge for making a small change, not an addition, a change.

We decided to try this place on a whim and so glad we did! I ordered the mini skillet with bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, hashbrowns and one egg. My love ordered eggs, corned beef hash, grits and pancakes. Everything was delicious! We mentioned to the waitress that it was our first time visting so the owner, Mike, came by to welcome us and tell us how grateful he was for us to try his establishment! Truly shows that he cares about his customers which is great for customer service. It was a nice personal touch to our experience. We'll definately be back!

Loved it!! Went here with my wife's parents and had one if the skillet breakfasts with chorizo. Couldn't even finish it all, it was piled with chorizo, hash browns, eggs, salsa, and cheese...absolutely delicious!! The place was like a little mom and pop place out of the Midwest, felt right at home. The waitress was very friendly and the prices were great, will be back here very soon!!

Mediocre service. Decent food. Atrocious decor. The kicker, for me, is that their coffee manages to be horrid. I paid $2.19 for a cup of coffee that I could only manage to get half of down. For that sort of quality and price, I could have gone to Starbucks and had wifi tacked on. The Sonoran skillet was okay. I got the mini portion and it filled me up. The flavors were overpowered by grease and oil and it desperately needed salt and pepper (how you manage that with chorizo, I don't know). The biscuit was embarrassingly rubbery. I doubt I'll be back. Well, I went back and it was even worse. My mother had a Groupon (which they originally said they would honor) to the place, so we went to catch up and have a meal. My water was refilled once, after being empty for at least 20 minutes, our food was so bland that it seemed almost intentionally so, and the management outright said that it was our problem they weren't honoring a former Groupon (full disclosure, I don't subscribe, endorse, or like Groupon, I just expect when a friend or family uses them that the establishment honors their word). Avoid this place.

Close to southern country breakfast as you can. May I recommend the cinnamon roll! It is so light, fluffy and sweet and for only 2.99 you might as well share it because its big. When you first walk up to the Hungry Fox it appears small and doesn't look that busy. As you open the front door on a Saturday morning their little knick 'knack section is filled with people waiting to be seated in the dining area. My wait was about 15 minutes for 2 people. Seems like an average wait. As you are standing around because chairs are limited in the area, there are several handmade items for sale. As we were seated to our table the dining area was small and had the New York attitude, take your order, small chat, serve your food then leave. I had no complaints with this establishment good fast food breakfast.

Hands-down the best tuna melt I have ever had. It was shear buttery deliciousness. I really enjoyed the onion rings as well! Best onion rings in Tucson. The cinnamon roll was sinful and delightful. The coffee was definitely not good hence four stars out of five.

Buckwheat pancakes hot spot #2 for me (after the Village Inn). I got the small size Gypsy Skillet. It was huge. Can't imagine what the full size looks like! Hubby got Chicken Fried Steak. Most notable feature of that was he could get his eggs poached and there were 4 eggs. He was very full after that. They sell loaves of bread and cinnamon rolls. Looked to be mainly populated with "regulars". There is also a gift shop and what looked to me like a meeting facility. The service was good and we were seated quickly at 11 am. We'll go again. +++Fun Tip: If you wear your Hungry Fox shirts or hats there is a discount which have forgotten the details of-check to cash register desk in the gift shoppe for deets!

Still holding strong at a four. I was hoping some recent reno would bump the place up, but nope. Food is still what you'd expect. Nothing to crazy remarkable (it's breakfast food after all) but a decent morning munch. Prices seem a bit higher than most breakfast joints in town, so that's a bummer, but nobody tops their cherry pie. That thing rocks my socks off. The colors of the place have been updated, deep green booths and lime green painted wainscoting. I'll say that green is not the most appetizing color to eat around, but not enough to dock a star or anything. I've never tried their Sunday brunch, maybe that'll give me the boost I need to put this guys over a four. Until then, it's still good, not wowy-powy, it's consistent, and the light construction opened up the hostess area but not much changed in the back of the house.

I like the food here, and the store part of The Hungry Fox. I expect to be a repeat customer. I have heard mixed things about the service. Some people find the servers to be quite friendly, others would say they're not friendly. But in my experience, I had a great server, Josh. He was friendly and checked on me at the right times - not too much, or too little. Brenda, who was working as cashier at the time I left, was friendly and pleasant too. My only minor complaint is that I wish the breakfast menu options were different. The particular food combination I like (pancakes w/fruit topping, bacon, eggs) is a bit costly here when compared to chains, like IHOP. You'll pay more to get such a breakfast at the Hungry Fox, but they will give you a better breakfast. I asked and found out the pancakes here are made with cornmeal. When you order the fruit topping, you get a generous portion of it. It also comes in a bowl, allowing you to distribute the topping yourself. There are certainly a number of other breakfast combinations at reasonable prices. With the lunch options, you will also be able to get a lot of food fairly cheap. I would reccommend Hungry Fox, its worth the money!

I've been to the Hungry Fox nine times since August 2012 and I have never been disappointed once. Mostly I order breakfast and have ordered lunch as well. The menu offers affordable meals that consist of large portions. The food is consistent every time. Service is prompt and the staff are friendly. If you like eating good food with no dirty hipsters around then you should be at the Hungry Fox.

Now, I'm a whole grain and fresh vegetable type o'girl--but the Hungry Fox makes toast out of homemade white bread and boy howdy is it good. I don't even order it dry--I let them brush on the butter and I eat all of it. This, alongside something called a Gypsy Skillet (see photo), made for a pretty awesome Sunday breakfast. Ah, but here's how love works: my husband ordered the same thing and left ALL his toast--said he didn't like it. Whatever. 5 stars if the coffee were better.

Wanting a true country breakfast? Hungry Fox is just the spot for this craving. Decor: Country cottage meets grandma's house. There is a little store attached the the restaurant... Homemade food items, trinkets, and the sorts.. It won't satisfy your shopping desires yet still fun to look around while waiting for your table. Food: standard American breakfast fare... you know, eggs made up a million and a half ways and the sweet breakfast eats too. Nothing fancy or too special however delicious when craving a typical breakfast. I recommend trying the home fries vs the hash browns, getting an order of toast (it's homemade!), and getting some eggs made to your liking (over-easy for me please). Or satisfy your sweet tooth with a belgian waffle or some pancakes. Whatever you choose, say goodbye to more than half your calorie allowance all while it's still morning. Lunch also served, mostly a variety of sandwiches. I always say.. don't go to a breakfast place for lunch therefore I have not tried any of these. useful info: pay upfront, not at the table.

I've been going to The Hungry Fox for 11 years, with mixed results. Mostly positive, but some "meh" experiences. Sometimes service is backed up, and sometimes the food is too oily or buttery. A couple of times I've had servers that were either totally absent or lurking. This time, though (and I haven't been in a few years), everything was great. I had the Cowboy Omelet (omelet with cheddar cheese, topped with homemade chili and diced raw onions). The omelet was cooked so beautifully. Light and fluffy. Probably the best omelet I've ever had here (and there have been many). Side of their famous homemade bread for toast (always great), and hash browns. My friend had Pigs in a Blanket (sausage rolled up in their large pancakes). The plate was HUGE. Also came with eggs cooked to order (and all of their eggs are double yolk). We're no slouches at cleaning our plates, but there was no way we could have eatn it all without bursting. We'll be having delicious leftovers soon. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. Coffee cups were kept filled. We wanted for nothing. Although I've never been here for lunch, looking at the $5 lunch special menu tempted me to do so in the future. Looks like a great deal. I'm happy to see that they've improved the previously annoying checkout/gift shop area. So much less cluttered and navigable.

My first time at this restaurant. The hostess was polite and waitress was friendly. The kitschy decor of the place was pretty cool. I had the pigs in a blanket and that was super yummy! The eggs and hash browns were average. The coffee could have been better. All in all a cute place to go and have a hearty breakfast!

This place has the best breakfast I have ever had!! Their food is absolutely delicious and I will DEFINITELY be going back! We've never had a better experience!! My mom came to Tucson to visit me for the weekend and we were looking for a good place to have brunch before she headed back home. We had looked around a bit online and The Hungry Fox seemed to have a menu that looked good. When we got there, it was quite a busy little place, but we knew that this meant it must be good! We were also delighted to hear that everything is homemade, including their pies and huge cinnamon rolls, and that it was a cute little mom and pop shop owned by a husband and wife. We were seated in a booth and automatically noticed the down home country style decorations. The menu was filled with so many delicious sounding entrees. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with sausage on a croissant and hash browns. My mom ordered the two egg breakfast with sausage, hash browns, toast, and a cup of coffee. When our food came, we were surprised at the large portions for the low cost and we were unaware of their "double yolk" rule. Apparently, each egg is a "double-yolk" egg, so that when you order two eggs, you get four and when you order four, you get eight, but the price is still the same! As we were enjoying our meal, our waitress, Janet, checked on us every once in awhile to refill our beverages and make sure everything was okay. After awhile, an older man (the owner/manager, we assumed) walked by and asked us if everything was tasting okay. We were delighted to tell him that everything tasted amazing and that we were so glad we had found such a wonderful little place! He introduced himself as Rick and proceeded to sit down with us and have a brief conversation. He was so kind and warm-hearted and at the end of our conversation he shook our hands and thanked us by name and then said that he would make sure our waitress knew that I was a student at The University of Arizona and that we receive 10% off our bill. We were so pleased with every part of our brunch experience at The Hungry Fox and we definitely intend to make several return trips to this quaint country home breakfast restaurant.

Looking for a quick and hearty breakfast, than this is the place to go. I ordered one of the mini skillets and found it to me just enough food. The wait staff was very pleasant and the service was just fine. Overall the place has a grandmas kitchen kind of feel.

Great made-from-scratch, home style food. Friendly & attentive staff. If you order an omelet, share it...they're huge! I've only ever had breakfast here, but I'm sure I'll be trying lunch sometime soon. It's a fairly quiet place, the exception being two servers singing "The Way You Do The Things You Do" (not loud, I was just close to them); I thought it was part of the floor show :)

11:15 Saturday seated immediately. Ordered a la carte: cinnemon roll, 2 eggs scrambled, 2 sausage patties. Patties were burger-sized and those must be ostrich! No need for toast, hash browns, etc. Sausage was tasty and eggs perfectly done. Cinnemon roll was homemade with ample cinnemon. Texture is a bit 'thick' and wouldn't keep for a day, so must be fresh. Worth a stop! Ambience is 70s-80s diner (that's when I was last here!), Formica and leatherett. Lots of ages from high-school to young family to retiree.

The Hungry Fox is a really good country breakfast place. The portions are large, the prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious. The country fried steak (chicken fried steak by another name) is my favorite item on the menu. Delicious. The home made bread toast is really tasty too. I like the decor. It's like a country store with all sorts of cute trinkets and things hanging on the walls. The coffee is pretty bad. I still drink it but it leaves a lot to be desired. I whole-heartedly recommend The Hungry Fox for breakfast. They serve lunch too but I've never had it.

Has gone down in quality and service. Food is tasteless and the service is like watching ghosts delivering your meal. Used to be a regular...not anymore.

  • Stacia T.

I recently went to the Hungry Fox and will never go back under any circumstances. The food was terrible; the scrambled eggs were tasteless, the bacon was overcooked, and the biscuit? A overblown, gut busting connoction of flour, water, salt and shortening that stuck to the roof of my mouth for hours. The cinnamon roll that a friend of mine ordered came out of the kitchen smothered in a grey, runny sauce that almost had me running to the bathroom just looking at it. The wait staff was beyond slow, and indifferent to our requests, often times seeming like they had better things to do what they were being paid to do. For the life of me, I don't understand how the Hungry Fox stays in business. I will never go back there again, and I will tell all of my friends, family and friends of friends and family to not think of going there even as a desperate, last ditch alternative to any other establishment in Tucson.

The restaurant has been there since the '60's, and I doubt the decor has changed since. Three of us had breakfast for $30 including tip, and the food was good. The service was fast although some of the servers are.., well, interesting looking. It was VERY busy for a Sunday am. Worth checking out, at least for a basic, no frills, not fancy meal.

  • STACY B.

I tried this place with a restaurants.com certificate. I love the country feel and charm. The food was very good as well as the service. However the price was quite high for me. It cost $30 for 2 for breakfast and a milk and a juice. I guess I would have thought being a little country diner the pricing would have been a little lower. I would go back again if I ever had the extra $ to spend which is not often.

A breakfast favorite of mine! Really nice waitresses and really good, homestyle cooking. You get a huge amount of food for not much money (think grilled cheese & fries for $4.50) and EVERYTHING is good! I love the belgian waffles and french toast, and the hash browns... none better in Tucson! They *do* have kind of bad coffee, but I know I'm hard to please in that area, so don't take my word for it - go to the Hungry Fox and try it for yourself!

  • Joseph C.

Came in for breakfast one day last week not knowing what to expect. The decor reminded me of my grandmothers house from many years ago. I dont know if that was a good thing or not. The service was friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The portion sizes are a plenty, but that's what you usually when you eat an ol fashioned country breakfast. Just think pigs in a blanket, hash browns and scrambled eggs. You may want to go back to bed after that comforting breakfast. There is a little store that you can buy things also. Nothing of country decor appeals to me anyway so I didnt look to see what they had. There's some good eats over yonder at the Hungry Fox.

  • Steve M.

Such a miserable hostess. She stood and pointed to tables rather than walk guests to them. And had a really bad attitude. The food was pretty boring. We had a gift certificate that required a minimum "food" purchase -- drinks didn't count. We didn't realize this small print rule (what a terrible requirement) until we were paying our bill. The same hostess decided to tack on a cinnamon roll to the bill so that we could use the gift certificate that she'd already redeemed for us. (We thought we'd just come back another time and use it.) Did we get a choice? NO! Then, she forgot to hand us back our change and moved on to the next customer in line. Never, ever, going back.

  • Aaron R.

  • Tee M.

This was there worst food and service I have ever had !!! The staff was HORRIBLE they brought my sandwich out that was veggie it had bacon and turkey on it and then when they got me a new one the avocado brown and old !! I could not believe how could they serve this ? so I asked for the manger and the staff was so ignorant uneducated WHITE TRASH with no manors at all !! I WILL NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE unless you like to pay for horrible food and service !
