Sushi Nara is a little place in a small strip mall near the intersection of Speedway and Camino Seco, on the east side (across the street from Walgreens, I think it is). We've eaten there twice now and have really enjoyed it. Over the course of the two trips, we have sampled the salmon sashimi (very good), the Alaska roll (not my cup of tea--my fault, as I ordered the wrong thing), the Eskimo roll (very good), the shrimp dumplings, and the tofu age appetizer, both really good. I was happy that our meal came with miso soup and edamame, also quite good. One former reviewer said the edamame was slimy, but that was not the case either time for us. The miso was flavorful, unlike many similar soups elsewhere. The second time we came in, the cook remembered us and our orders--that was pretty amazing. I'm so happy to have found this place. We will be regulars from now on.

Cutest sushi place ever. The interior is very nice and clean with beautiful open windows for optimal lighting, feels very open and bright. The food is very fresh and light. My friends and I ordered spicy ramen, katsu and sushi. The nigiri was fresh and the California rolls didn't feel cheaply made. My friends really enjoyed their food! You get free miso (unlimited too!), edamame and a cute yogurt probiotic drink as a dessert. Nice little touches. The cook and waitress (assuming they're a couple) were very quiet but sweet. Always smiling. I'll definitely come again!

Sushi Nara is a very friendly establishment with very tasty food. I like to try the many different sushi restaurants in town, and this one is just as tasty with an affordable menu. The food other than sushi is equally delicious and you leave feeling satisfied. I come here for not only the healthy food but also the really kind workers which makes every eating experience better.

I have been here a few times now and each time I walk away very satisfied. The restaurant is small but very well maintained. They have about 10 tables inside and a couple outside. While this is a sushi restaurant, don't expect a bar as all the food is made in the back. Don't worry though, the food is extremely fresh and flavorful. My normal order is a spicy tuna roll and a large bowl of spicy ramen. Both have the right amount of heat and flavor. The ramen portion size is generous and filling. The roll is tender and the rice is fresh and holds together well. Each meal is started with some free edamame (soy beans) and a small bowl of miso soup. Nice touches in my opinion. After your meal your given a small shot of "yogurt soda". It kind of tastes like a light strawberry soda. It's very refreshing. Finally, my wife gets their chicken teriyaki. It was juicy, flavorful and tender. Also, it has a really nice barbecued, charred, flavor. All in all, my new favorite sushi restaurant.

The lady was nice and still took my order to go since they were closed. Hours are wrong on Yelp. I sent in correction. The food was ok, not bad. Presentation good. For my to go order I did not see any soy sauce. I asked for some. I didn't pay attention as surely she wouldn't just give me one packet for two rolls. Sure enough I only got one packet. Since I'm traveling I didn't have any soy sauce back at the hotel. I was looking for a nice dim restaurant to relax before my overnight work. This place was a fast food strip mall type place that is well lit. Not a place if ambiance or romance. I'll go somewhere else next time.

I have to start off saying I stopped by while the cook was on break and the closed sign was up. The owner came to my car to let me know she (the cook) was gone but he could start on my dish! This is a must try for all east siders! Fyi you can bring your own beer and wine here to enjoy while you eat Food: The food here is fresh, has great taste and always hits the spot. You get large portions for what you order. (I am talking for all no sushi dishes, since I don't eat sushi.) Service: It's amazing! They are very attentive and pay attention to what you need and when. Very personable staff & so kind. Atmosphere: It's a smaller restaurant, probably could hold 25-40 is my best guess. I have been here multiple times now and it is always SO very clean!! Simple but amazing. Side note: Although I don't eat sushi, a few of my best friends do. They now come here almost weekly just for the sushi. They say it's a must try!

....meh.... my husband and I are big sushi eaters, so we're always looking for awesome places in town. I saw all the wonderful reviews for this place - so we decided to go. Quaint little place- very clean. Got our drink orders and brought us some edamame. It was kinda slimy.... I had read the reviews about the self serve miso station, so I asked if I could get some. She said no, she would get it for me. I also saw her shew another patron away as he was attempting to serve himself. So I'm not sure if that is still their policy. We ordered the 9 piece sashimi plate and a few rolls. Sashimi came out first. Salmon slimy, but tasted good, the tuna tasted a bit like a fish tank smells, and the 3rd fish.... (albacore?) Had no flavor. The rolls we got, however, were quite good. Solid flavor, and well put together rolls. We had the Fireball, Happy Roll, spicy tuna roll, and the Eskimo roll. The only complaint I had about them was they were pretty small for the price, and had the smallest amount of fish the could use. Best roll we got was the fireball. Who knows... maybe we caught them on a bad night, but I don't think we'll be making a point to go again.

An absolute fantastic surprise on the east side. Over the five times I have eaten here has quickly become my favorite sushi place in town. Great food, fair price and friendly staff. Unfortunately for me I moved to central Tucson and now have to make a drive to get there. Highly recommended.

New east side sushi joint, Save me some travel time when I am craving for sushi, but wasn't quite a cure, just yet. I am just not sure how to take on a place like this, Is this a place like Samurai that everything is self-serving (the way the decor) or a sit down restaurant (the price) with full table service? Okay sushi, overly salted noodles, Well ~ believe or not, it seems like the chef didn't mixed the salt in the wok so I got a bite with nothing but salt and noodles...kind of funny in a way...but wth? I might come back for lunch sometime.

This is my family's favorite place to get sushi. The staff is so friendly and remembers us everytime we go. The sushi is fresh and flavorful. We have also tried sesame chicken and it is delicious!! Free edamame and miso soup. Bring your own beer or wine and dine in!

This place has a couple pretty good things going for it. First of all, there is no other place to get Sushi once you are East of Pantano Rd. Second, you can call ahead and pick up your order. So, if you're living East of Pantano, say out at Houghton, you really don't have a lot of choice! However, this place doesn't quite rate "5 stars" under the listing of "Sushi Bar." For several reasons. First, and most critical, is that the sushi is about average, and medium to high prices (didn't see any specials or happy hours). And, that's not to put it down. Average sushi, the sushi rolls are decent sized, and in a neighborhood that doesn't have any sushi at all, that's a good thing! So, not putting it down for that, just, it's not "5 Star" sushi. It's 3 stars (and by Yelp's own guidelines, 3 stars is "A-OK") Second, it's not a "Sushi Bar." You don't watch it being prepared if you sit at the bar, because there is no bar at all. It has a handful of tables, no bar. And, on the topic of "bar" it also does not have alcohol of any kind. So, it's more a "sushi place" than a "sushi bar." And, while on the topic of bar and alcohol, or rather the absence of those things, there was something present that was a little different, Christian music. I'm not saying that it is a good or a bad thing, and it wasn't loud or oppressive, but when I did notice what was playing. The songs were clearly littered with "he is our light" and "our savior" and "the king of kings" language. Not sure that influences the rating of the place at all, but it was noticeable. Average sushi, and no bar are the big things to consider. Some of the other little stuff would include that this place is brand new, and hasn't quite got the hang of things yet. Odds are, in a six months or so they will settle into a pattern and be a little better than they are today. Examples of things that aren't quite as smooth as a long running place would include: a) On my first visit I was immediately given edamame, but on my second visit the edamame wasn't served until after the sushi rolls, b) The miso soup is "serve yourself" just like the fountain drinks, however so are the chopsticks and napkins, which can leave someone sitting confused that doesn't know to go look for them on their own, c) some people clearly wait longer for their check than others, when at any time you can just walk up to the register and close out on your own anyway.

Delicious food, excellent customer service and convenient location. The best Japanese food I've had since living in Japan!

Based on the exceptional reviews, my wife and I decided to try this restaurant. The staff was very friendly and we felt like were family. We order two salads and four sushi rolls. We were also given soup and edamame. The salads were very good. While the rolls were very good, our sushi restaurant in Las Vegas is much more flavorful. However, we would visit this restaurant again on our next visit to Tucson.

Delicious from apps to sushi to dinner. The owner/staff are so nice and welcoming. Self serve miso soup is delicious. Sushi is fresh. Orange chicken was to die for. Finally an amazing sushi place on the Eastside!

Went in for lunch for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and how neat the place was. We picked our seats and we were quickly served miso and edamame (complimentary). Got the gyoza as an app, and it was very good and hit the spot. Ordered the sushi combo # 5 which was great, and they even custom made it for me without avocado (food allergy). My girlfriend got the beef fried rice which she said was good. One of the coolest parts about the place is that it is BYOB, which makes it even more affordable. Oh and our bill came out to 30 bucks, can't beat that !!!!

I'd been waiting for their grand opening because I'm a sushi fan. I was greeted by friendly people who immediately pointed me to the serve yourself miso soup table. I could even add my own green onions! They brought edamame along with the menus. The selection was good, obviously mostly sushi but a few other great options as well. I had three rolls (and took half home). They were delicious! Sushi Nara is a great addition to the neighborhood.

I've been getting take out sushi here regularly since it opened, and I love it! The staff is always friendly and they're willing to make multiple types of vegetarian rolls if you ask them.

My friend brought me here to try it out. At first I thought it was a low pricey, however after eating the food I was very happy. Yes it might be a little bit more money than other places, but it's very very much worth it.

When we saw that this place was opening we were super excited to have something so close to home finally. I'm so glad this place lived up to our expectations! The salmon was delicious and I like the serve your own miso. The food came out faster than most places and we're looking forward to many more visits!

A welcome addition to the growing number of excellent dining options on the east side of the city. This small neighborhood restaurant, located on the southwest corner of Speedway and Camino Seco, offers a limited but carefully selected menu consisting of a selection of appetizers, Asian-style salads, main dishes, noodles, and a variety of sushi and sashimi options. A number of combination plates are available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. I had the salmon teriyaki with the chef's seaweed salad (try it, you'll like it) for $8.95 and it was absolutely delicious. Everything is obviously freshly prepared and the prices are reasonable. Well worth a visit if you live nearby - or even if you have to drive a few miles. Note that you have to enter the small complex housing the restaurant from the south side of Speedway.

The wife and I wanted to get sushi, so we tried this place which is closer to our house than other sushi restaurants. My first impression was that the place was small and it was a mom-and-pop place, which can be better than the larger chain restaurants. Unfortunately, this sushi restaurant was sub-par. The majority of the filling in the sushi rolls were cucumbers, and there was very little actual fish/seafood. The portions and size of the rolls were underwhelming as well, and we were not impressed with the taste. Needless to say, we wouldn't recommend this place for sushi. However, we didn't try any of the main entrees, so we have no opinion on that. Oh, and you need to bring your own beer and/or wine.

The service here is excellent. The owners are incredibly nice. The sushi is amazing and the prices are reasonable. You can bring your own beer and wine to this place, which is amazing! I enjoy the atmosphere and the location seeing that it is located near my house. There are a lot of different sushi roll options. The place is very clean!!! :) I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi!

WHERE TO COME FOR SUSHI ON THE GO. I have ordered several times to go and it's always prepared quickly and made fresh. The people who work here are happy to be there nice and smiling! Great atmosphere and awesome BYoB set up.

One of my favorite sushi places in town. I don't live on this side of town but it is worth the drive. Service is a little slow but I don't mind. There is one person making sushi in the back and one person serving. The place is really small. it is a BYOB restaurant which is always nice. Bringing your own can save some money! For the sushi, it taste fresh and just the right amount. I have also had their spicy ramen. It sure is spicy but so tasty that you can't put it down!!! YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE

Really nice sushi. Small neighborhood restaurant. Very nice staff. Bring your own beer and wine. They even gave us an ice bucket to keep the beer cold.

This quaint and unassuming sushi bar is the best sushi I have had in Tucson. While it is a small place, the food is excellent, the service is friendly and prompt. Miso soup is complementary with dinner, or this at least has been my experience. They have a wide variety of typical sushi and sashimi items on the menu, but are willing to prepare to order. My family and I eat here regularly, and it is the only sushi place we will go in town now.

Great presentation and high quality sushi at reasonable prices. Hints of different seasonings and spices made the flavor jump out! I was pleasantly surprised when I was served edamame, miso soup as well as a yogurt flavored drink at the end of the meal.
