What bad things can you say bad about a place with interesting karaoke, decoration and design straight from mid-century mod, free appetizers (with a coupon) and tall well drinks for discount prices even on a Friday night? Not many, my friend. Not many.

I stayed at the hotel next door for jury duty and the restaurant staff in the morning was so sweet and a pleasure to see everyday! The bartender in the lounge in the evening was very nice and went out of her way to get me a bowl of soup one night when I got there a little late. It's perfect if your staying next door! Thank You for making my week much more pleasant. :)

We stopped in last night for dinner on the spur of the moment after not having eaten here for at least a year and came away impressed and really happily full. We had stopped coming not because the food or service was unsatisfactory, but because of our perceived rapid employee turnover rate. We just weren't sure of who or what we'd be in for each time we went. Our server, Nate, welcomed us BACK which shocked and amused us because we had discussed before walking in the door, how we probably wouldn't know any of the servers. He made liars out of us, so there. The cooks behind the counter were new (to us), but hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained. The menu was slightly different, with a few surprising (good, interesting) variations. The specials were Tuna Steak, Carnivore Burger (bacon-stuffed) and the Chicken Pesto Sandwich. Partner had the tuna which was sesame encrusted with a sweet chili-hollandaise sauce. Great presentation and even better flavor ( I was permitted a SMALL taste). I had the Steak Diane (ribeye with a shallot, wine, mushrooms sauce). My steak was prepared medium rare, less tender than I was used to, but having never had steak this way (I'd heard of it and always wanted to try it), I'm pretty sure that the preparation was spot on. This ribeye version isn't as thick as I'm used to, but it was very tasty, nonetheless. I would definitely order this again after trying a couple of other entrees that looked interesting (I.e. Swordfish Scampi). The entrees came with soup or salad. Partner had salad (enormous and fresh), and I had the SOD, butternut squash (pretty good). One side note: I was very hungry, so for my choice of two sides, I chose onion rings. They were GIGANTIC, not homemade, but fried perfectly with good flavor. The restaurant wasn't full (Thursday night around 7 pm), but there were more diners than the previous times we'd eaten there. I don't know if they were hotel guests or locals, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were locals who realized a good find when they saw it. Our tab was $38 (before tip) for the food and one glass of Cabernet. I definitely recommend this unassuming hotel restaurant based on our visit. At a Best Western? Who'd a thunk?

We decided to give this location a try. The wait person was very helpful and friendly. We started with an appetizer of potato skins. The arrived and were loaded with cheese and bacon. Quite tasty and a winner. We ordered an avocado burger, green chile burger, buffalo chicken sandwich and wings. The chicken sandwich was very tasty and delicious. I asked for my burger medium well. It was literally half well done and half medium. Terrible The green chile burger was cooked properly. But real basic. Burger, green chile and cheese. Maybe we will try again for breakfast

The food is Awesome and our waiter , Nate was the best !! He is in my opinion one of, if not the best waiter I have had the pleasure to meet in a long time . We have had dinner here the past two nights and our meal both times was excellent.

We sing karaoke here from time to time, and I knew the restaurant was much better than what you'd expect attached to a Best Western. It wasn't until our friends got a Groupon that we decided to try it. Although the space looks like a place that's open 24 hours and serves breakfast anytime, they really do put a lot of thought into the food. We found some very good dishes here. Unfortunately, the quality was kind of uneven. No one liked the hard blueberry lemonade, which most of us found too gross to drink. The lemon cod was also extremely disappointing. Rubbery and fishy. Everything else was good. We loved the little caprese bites: very clever to put a salad on a stick. The potato skins went over well, also, but they went so fast that I didn't try any. The specials all looked good, and everyone who tried them liked them. The mediterranean chicken and the steak were favorites. I chose the salmon, which comes with 2 sides and soup or salad. The soup was French onion and it was really tasty, although put together in a really nonconservative fashion. Instead of dropping bread and cheese on top and toasting the whole thing, the cheese was melted at the bottom of the bowl, and the soup was covered with croutons. This made it difficult to eat, because, while I like French onion *soup* I'm not a massive fan of onions, and I had to dig through them to find the cheese. As for the sides, I tried a few. The onion rings are very good. The fries and asparagus were good. The mashed potatoes were standard. My fish was OK. It wasn't an especially good piece of fish, but the mango salsa went a long way toward making up for it. Decent food, reasonably priced.

First trip to Tucson and was wowed by a very nice restaurant we stumbled upon after leaving Gates Pass. The grilled salmon with mango salsa was awesome and our server Jamie took such great care of us . If you're in Tucson, make sure you stop by !

This place rocks. I stay at a Best Western next to it religiously because I can walk right over and enjoy genuinely delicious food at a great price, nightly drink and food specials, plus awesome karaoke and poker nights. You can't beat it. The bartender Morgan not only pours great drinks and holds great conversation, but can belt out CCR like you were hearing the real thing. Great outgoing people frequent this joint and the fireplace adds a nice cozy feel. Cheers!

Unfortunately the restaurant is not near any attractions/businesses so it was never busy during the 2 meals i had there. I guess the majority of customers are from the nearby hotel which is a shame. People are missing out. Good food at good prices and very friendly and efficient service. Life is not fair knowing I've had worse food & service at more popular locations at higher prices, there is no God. Besides the regular menu items, they also make the efforts to have daily specials. They're keeping it real

Awesome burgers! I grabbed the classic with fries for take out, had a beer in the lounge while it was being made. Bartender was great. I ordered medium rare, but it came well done - I didn't care as it was still killer.

My friends and I were in the mood for karaoke and decided to stop in. It was an odd feeling to park at the Best Western and to walk past hotel rooms towards the Royal Sun. We did not know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised with the fun atmosphere of the lounge. Fellow patrons were super friendly and even bought us drinks, which are at affordable prices. Most of the people who sang had amazing voices and should totally try out for American Idol. We grabbed the microphone, even though we're tone deaf and had so much fun attempting to sing. It's nice that no one judges you with your singing skills and everyone is there to have a great time. This was such a hidden gem. Will definitely be coming back soon!!

we visited the place a couple of weeks ago. we sat down and waited for 20 minutes and no one ever came to our table. when we walked out 3 staff members where out in back enjoying their smoke break.

Our tab had extra items on it and was much more then it should have been. The bartender was also missing for a good chunk of time, I think outside smoking, when we were at the bar waiting for drinks. I've been pleased when visiting here in the past but tonight was a HUGE letdown.

I mean who knew? This place is the little joint attached to the Royal Sun Best Western - GIO HERE. Their breakfasts are cooked to order and free for guests when choosing from 10 different options. A solidly fine breakie. The lounge? They were totally awesome and there is kaoroke! The coconut shrimp where some of the best I have ever tasted and I'm a fan of coconut shrimp so I order it whenever it is on a menu. Their potato skins were yum, yum, yum. And the bartender makes a mean Manhatten.

Not too shabby. A "please seat yourself" type of night but we waited for a little over 10 minutes if not extremely close to that to be acknowledged...Pretty sure they were out smoking & guy in the back didn't seem interested enough in getting us a waitress...food was good though. Had the fried cod and the wife had the chicken bacon ranch wrap. Great big portion sizes and even got a free appetizer cuz we checked in (potaoe skins--which was so delicious) I forgot how long we waited initially lol. Overall quiet nice just us and 2 other people n the dining area.

What a Tucson gem. If you are looking for a place to eat, drink, and hang out without having to deal with the downtown club scene, this is the place. They have great local beers on tap at a reasonable price. The food is fantastic. The staff is friendly and fun.

As a guest at the Best Western Royal Sun, this restaurant was right outside our doorstep. The server, Nate, made us feel very welcomed. Unfortunately it seemed like it was just him so the service was kinda slow. The food was as advertised, comfort good. I wouldn't mind coming here again

From the street this restaurant doesn't really look like much! We were staying at the Best Western on business and were absolutely blown away by the newly renovated rooms. Every little detail was impressive, from the bedding and decor to the contemporary bathroom and extras (like complimentary shoe shine kit, high-quality in-room coffee and ear plugs). We finished our business late and were tired and didn't want to drive anymore so we decided to just go down to the restaurant on property to grab a bite to eat. The restaurant decor is a bit dated, however, they are renovating as we speak and if the rooms are any indication the restaurant will be updated and modern as well. The menu and the food really surprised us, however. My business partner had the Black & Blue Burger (Cajun seasoned burger, Blue Cheese, bacon, caramelized onions) and was blown away. It was cooked perfectly (MR) and came to the table piping hot. She cut me a slice and I, too, was really, really impressed. I ordered the Jacked Up Ribeye (thick Ribeye covered in Jack Daniels mushroom sauce). My dish also came hot off the grill and the sauce was beyond expectation. Our server was fast, funny and attentive and what was intended to be a quick bite to fill our belly's before bed turned into an amazing meal and a really fun time. It reminded me of what my grandmother always used to say to me as a child... "never judge a book by it's cover"!

Any diner that has an occasional swordfish special is slightly off the beaten track. It's all here- the radio playing in the open kitchen, diner seating, whirling fans and a strangely happy server. The food is quite frankly, umm, unexpectedly good. I didn't have the swordfish special, but I did have a " heart attack" double burger and it was very good and lived up to its name so it was bad for my health. My companions has a Reuben which was very good and something called a southwestern chicken which was great. Their 3 dollar side salads are a deal.

A real find for a weary traveler. Fresh food expertly prepared. I had the grilled ribeye for $14 and you get a steak cooked perfectly, the perfect baked potato and instead of the dreaded vegetable medley, a perfectly blanched pile of green beans tossed with just the right amount of butter and salt. In contrast, at an expensive steak house in Phoenix the night before I got a sinewy bone-in ribeye with, yes, the dreaded vegetable medley, a horrible mess of red peppers, onions, carrots, broccoli rabe and green asparagus undercooked with no salt or oil of any kind. The chefs at the Royal Sun get good ingredients and treat them simply and with respect. Tucson, and travelers staying in the hotel district, do not neglect this place.

we dined at this restaurant on 8 Sept 2014 and enjoyed it so much that although we live in Sierra Vista, we returned on 10 Sept 2014. This restaurant is definitely Tucson's best kept secret. The menu is well diversified, the staff is friendly and happy, I even heard singing from the kitchen staff. On our first visit we had rib eye steak, and on the second I had Tuna steak and my wife had the Chicken warped with prosciutto. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate this experience a 9. The food is prepared and presented by chiefs in a way that befits a 4 star (****) Restaurant. If you want to do yourself a favor and treat yourself to 4 star cuisine, at a 2 star price you must dine at this restaurant, I can guarantee that if you try it once, you will return.

Sunday morning and I and friend were picking up a couple of pieces of art from a show that was closing, no one was there yet so we walked down the street to the Royal Sun. It is a throw back in time, not in a good way that mishmash of when the 80's came crashing into the 90's of southwest pastels and pungent browns' it was like the carpet and the colors left a visceral taste in my mouth. The waiter was kind of all over the place friendly one moment and then a little bitchy and edgy. After looking at the menu I asked "Ron what would you suggest" He told me not to call him by name even thought he had a name tag on. After the incident he was okay, but it was difficult to ask him for anything else. I really can't blame the guy, I wouldn't want to be working here either on a Sunday morning on a nice Tucson winter day. I will have to say the food was not bad, and the bacon cooked perfectly, but my friend got the ham and it was spongy. So if it is convenient to eat here go for it, but if there is a way to get out of it, I would veer in that direction of away. Also it was expensive for what it was.

we got a groupon for this place because we had been there for breakfast a couple of years ago and it was comfortable. we live about a mile from it. we've watched it change over the years and wondered what it was like now. it's comfortable. probably run at a small loss for the hotel customers to have their free breakfast. this is a good deal and helps sell the hotel. i'm curious about restaurants. how they decide on menus. what happens to cooked meat that isn't sold etc. this strikes me as a place a talented hospitality employee has been working on, hence all the various changes we've seen over the years. probably hard to keep people running it. it's small and not real busy, the bar has always been a much busier place. so how do you get a nice restaurant into the public eye? have specials. cook a dozen difference meals, keep the quality of the food and cooking up so people come back and tell their friends. this is what they are doing. like 5 daily specials, i had chicken sandwich my wife has salmon. the chicken was nicely grilled, had a simple sauce, toasted nice tasty roll. salmon was well cooked and tasted good. mashed potatoes were smooth and a hint of garlic. so, taking no chances to alienate people, so easy to do. 1 waiter, Nate, i saw one cook. Nate was very nice, treated everyone as a friend and quickly moved from table to table. so. its a nice place to take guests, nothing bad to interfere with a pleasant time. you can hear the music next door. the staff, menu deciders and the management are trying a deserve a break if you can find yourself nearby.

My daughter and I were touring the University of Arizona and stayed at the Best Western Royal Sun Hotel because of its proximity to the college. After walking all day I tweaked my knee getting out of the cab so we were stuck at the hotel that evening. Normally we would have explored the area a bit more and eaten dinner off site. I'm glad we didn't. I wasn't expecting much. Typical diner food. We ordered the chicken marsala. It was the best chicken marsala I have EVER had and I work in San Francisco, one of the gourmet capitals in the world. It takes a little more to impress me. My daughter also agrees. We were gushing at how good the food was and asked to speak to the manager to let them know. They said Wade was a natural chef and we paid him our compliments. We had the free breakfast the next morning before sightseeing. It is nice that the hotel offers a free full breakfast but it was nothing special (different morning staff). We loved our dinner so much we made a special trip back the next evening before leaving Tucson. We split another chicken marsala and a hand cut rib eye. They hand cut it themselves. This time the chef served us himself. Another home run. The rib eye was just as delicious as the marsala. I can't comment on the lunch menu since we never ate there for lunch but for dinner, this place is definitely a diamond in the rough and worth a visit if you are ever in Tucson and want a gourmet meal for a diner price.

Food is pretty good. The service is what makes this place great. Very friendly staff and accommodating. Everyone was very sweet and great. I had the BBQ chicken, which was good. Nothing spectacular. But of you are staying at the hotel, make sure to get the 2 for 1 drink coupon. Both the Resturaunt and lounge takes them. I had a very good experience there.
