Well I'm not a native Tucsonan (is that the way to spell it?), but there's joints like this in Texas - Raising Cane's is one, I just saw that one is opening in Phoenix in August 2011, and Layne's was my college town favorite - that blow Lucky Wishbone out of the water. I got the Mom portion of the chicken strips. I was worried it would be too much food (4 strips), but the strips were really small. The fries were wimpy, I thought the batter tasted weird, and the sauce that comes with it is cocktail sauce, which I think does not go well with chicken. It was cheap though, so there's a plus. The Texas toast was my favorite part of the meal - but really, how can you mess up bread loaded with butter? Not my fave, if I'm gonna blow a ton of calories, I'll do it elsewhere.

I feel dumb writing a review of this place because if you live or ever lived in Tucson, you know Lucky Wishbone. I wish every place I've lived had one. What an awesome place for a tasty treat. Here's the formula: take everything you would typically deep fry and put it all in one funky retro walk-up joint and box it up to go. They have great fried chicken, fried steak fingers, fries, o-rings, shrimp, all that. Keep it simple and keep it good, that's it.

This place is just really greasy fast food. If you are in the mood for anything fried then just give Lucky Wishbone a visit. I got the chicken strips combo and it was pretty decent. Pricing wasn't that bad either for the amount of food you got. It is definitely worth a try for the average fast food junkie but if you're looking for something more exquisite look someplace else.

This isn't a place to sit and eat, but rather pick up food and eat it elsewhere. I only go here for one thing, Steak Fingers! I've been a fan since I could talk. I have lived in three different states since then and everytime I or one of my kids goes through Tucson we just have to pick up a box to bring home to everyone...actually last week we got 50 strips. I did miss the toast but we will order that next time. I have to agree, although I absolutely love this place the fries are not good. They could probably change these quite easily but then again...would I want someone elses opinion changing my steak fingers with cocktail sauce? NO WAY! The nostalgia is yet another thing. I can easily recall my Dad here, sitting next to me while I played with the poker chip with our order number on it, knowing something good was coming! Mom and Dad loved the chicken livers...I never tried them, but they loved them so I am adding their favorite to this post.

This location is my fav! The old building is the one my dad grew up with but the new one is bigger, cleaner and right next door.

Still in love with Lucky Wishbone. My favorite will always be the chicken livers, but my family is more than me, so here's their favorites. My husband loves the gizzards, just like my beloved livers, this is the only place to find them in Tucson. My daughters enjoy the chicken fingers, steak fingers and shrimp, both fried and cocktail. We're not too crazy about the sides with the exception of the delicious, sinful, garlic butter Texas toast. I wish they would do fried okra, but I really have no problem making it at home. Another plus is their dipping sauce. It's basically cocktail sauce, but no one outside of my husband prepares it better. Trust me, he is a cocktail sauce snob and he will only eat his and Lucky Wishbone's! Yes, everything is fried and no it isn't healthy. Everything in moderation, treat yourself once in a while to some greasy, delicious food!

There are a few things that I really liked from this place that are hard to get at other establishment's wich has led to me being a repeat customer when I'm in the area. Well that will no longer be the case after this past week, on both occasions in the past week that I visited this establishment to get food there was a person just hanging out with no shirt on just sitting at one of the tables next to the counter. If one thing instills confidence in me that an establishment is clean and sanitary it is them letting a customer just hang out shirtless and sweaty for all to see...NOT!

Sometimes your memory of a place is better than the food actually is. What I remembered: Crunchy fried morsels of goodness served with crispy fries and an uber buttery slice of garlic Texas toast. What I got: Flavorless fish fingers and freezer fries served with a dry piece of garlic bread. My memory keeps getting worse with age, but I think that same aging makes my palate better.

My boyfriend has been dying to try this place after admiring everyones lucky wishbone t-shirts around town for the last few years since moving here. Today we finally stopped in, its honestly not my kind of place, but I was trying to be a good sport. I got a fried fish sandwich which was actually really good. Seemed as fresh as a frozen fish patty could possibly be, crunchy, and overall hit the spot. His steak fingers were meh, but something we felt we had to try. Fries were good and BF loved his toast that they include. My only real complaint was watching the Manager belittle a young employee over apparently a mis-count on shrimp? I understand the need to correct a mistake but he spent the entire 10 minutes we were there waiting just rolling his eyes, making faces, ripping tickets off the line, and overall slamming things around and making me feel very uncomfortable. I found it completely unprofessional, and I commend the young girl working there who kept a smile the entire time and seemed quite good at her job compared to the immature manager.

Lucky Wishbone is a small, Tucson-based restaurant that is basically a brazier. Get your fill on any number of fried foods, carbohydrates and burgers. We love to pop in here once in awhile when we don't feel like a fast food chain or spending the cash on a gourmet burger. Fried shrimp and steak fingers are a must. I think I even saw they have a couple of dessert items now.

So I had to come back to this place. I think the Jalepeño poppers were stuck in my mind, because for 2 weeks, I've been craving them. I came in here and purchased 2 orders of Jalepeño poppers and a medium soda. Oh man, It's like the Jalepeño poppers get better every single time I order them. The staff was nice as usual, very friendly, and absolutely understanding in my love for Jalepeño poppers.

It was pretty darn tasty. I had the mom size fish and shrimp. Everything was hot and crisp. It's definitely an artery clogger but will make this my go to for my greasy fried food fix as it's close to my new house. Food came out fast and the staff was helpful as I didn't see exactly what I was looking for on the menu. It may have been on there but it was my first time. You guys will be seeing me about every 4 to 6 weeks. See you in August!

The best Italian food in Tucson IMHO. No one does a better mussels marinara or Bronzino than Lucky Wishbone!

I have been coming here for 30 years, this is by far my #1 go to place in Tucson. My dad use to come here when it was just a dirt lot back in the 50's. I always get a pop steak finger, chicken finger and shrimp. I call it the trifecta lol. I also get the double cheese burger on garlic toast. Damn I am hungry now.

I grew up eating this food and it's a Tucson tradition for sure. Southern fried steak fingers, fried shrimp, fried chicken, cole slaw, garlic toast. YUMMY. This is good stuff. I still hear their jingle in my head that a dear family friend wrote every time I think of them, "For picnics, parties or dinner at home, good things are going at Lucky Wishbone!"

The steak fingers seemed a little dry. When I go back, I think I will get all chicken. Now that was some good stuff. The people there were great in helping with our choices. Sti

I was born in Tucson and I love this city. One of the must-do's when I visit is eat at The Lucky Wishbone. Their fried chicken livers are what I base all other chicken livers by. I dream about them & my Mom does too. There's just something special about the salty-hint of sweet, crunchy outside and soft yet firm livery inside that can make one swoon ( or gag if you hate liver). I love the box the food comes in. When you get that white container with the red lettering & illustration of a boy & girl forever pulling on each side of a giant wishbone, the box heavy with promise, you lift the lid and there it all is, glorious fried nirvana! My Dad loved the steak fingers, my brother loved the chicken and my boyfriend (who was a skeptic until we vacationed in Tucson) loved the shrimp. Let's face it, it's an institution. The fries are good, the shrimp sauce is good, the place hardly changes through the years and that's refreshing, when so many classics feel the need to constantly evolve. There are several stores, all in Tucson. They basically are all good. I'm surprised and sorry to read the negative reviews as I've never had a bad meal here. When you need something good and fried this is thee place to go! Even if you have to fly to get there.

I really, really wanted to like this place because it's conveniently close and 'Lucky Wishbone' sounds good. My mouth was watering as I approached this old Tucson icon. There's a row of wooden chairs up front where people settle-in to wait for their food to be ready. I felt like I was in the middle of some 1950's Tucson ritual. I do like my fried chicken, but their thighs came from some pint-sized mini-chickens. They were about half the size of what I expected. I know darn well how big a chicken thigh ought to be, and these little nubbins could not measure-up on my appetite scale. Within minutes I was fondly remembering thighs of brute size and spicy flavor at Church's and Popeyes, and wondering what was the big deal here? Why was this place so well established? I'll have to come back and explore the menu, maybe there's something here that justifies the love a lot of people have for this place.

I actually hate this place. Anytime I've ever eaten here its been out of desperation or against my will. The chicken fingers are actually pretty good (although the food always makes me sick). The employees look depressed and its probably from the decor and the toothless Walmart-ish customers that come here. I love dives, but this place is just bad, bad, bad.

My son and I ordered hamburgers and fries. Order was quick food was good. When we got to our table it was very small. We opened our food and my son took a bite out of his hamburger set it down and reached for his fries and the hamburger fell on the floor. Well he went to tell the cashier (most managers at most restaurants will replace accidents like that) made us pay for another burger. My son asked to see the manager his name was Michael we were approached by a manager no smile no how csn I help you but an attitude of total disgust. My son told him what happened and he walked away. In the meantime I cleaned up the best I could no one was sent to even mop up the floor. Get it together Lucky Wishbone

A waste of money. The service is awful and the food tastes like cardboard. If you're starving and looking for something new to try, put your foot in your mouth. It's cheaper and will taste better.

Mom and I were out running errands and decided to grab a quick lunch. We drove by Lucky Wishbone and realized we hadn't eaten here in a while so made a quick turn-around and there we were. Mom got the mom-sized chicken livers and 2 chicken legs. I had the mom-sized fried shrimp. I love their Lucky Wishbone sauce (cocktail sauce??) and dip both the shrimp and fries into it. The garlic bread is listed as one to Tucson's 100 essential dishes and I wholeheartedly agree. BTW, the chicken livers are always good here too. This store has a wide range of customers. We saw Air Force, cowboys, office workers, retirees, homeless and a couple moms with kids. Something about being close to midtown I guess? It made for fun people watching for sure! The food and the service make this a great place to stop for a quick bite to eat and a Tucson tradition!

My favorite Lucky Wishbone, probably because it's the closest to my house. I love the chicken fingers & the spicy sauce is like CRACK. I usually get the Pop chicken fingers combo and it does me in for the rest of the day. The service is always friendly & fast and that's why I keep coming back again & again.

Figured I would try out a local fast food place. Had to wait too long for the food. $5.50 for two mini drumsticks a handful a French fries and a small coleslaw is a ripoff. Don't plan on patronizing this overpriced place soon...Banquet tv dinners are better than the food here

Mmm, fried breaded shrimp and really good French fries. No one is claiming it's health food but it tastes good. Good value for feeding a crowd.

For fried food in Tucson, Lucky Wishbone is the spot. Love the sauce!!!!! Try the steak fingers. After an all day dove hunter trip nothing beats sharing a family feast with your best friend.
