I was sick for 2 weeks and afterwards, I was CRAVING a good burger. After reading a few reviews, I decided to check out their Sunday 1/2 price burger. My first burger and fries were COLD. I sent them back and they returned with piping hot fries and burger. It was okay, but nothing to write home about. I can't imagine that I will return. **The deal requires the purchase of a beverage**

When you go make sure it's on a Sunday. That way you can get the 1/2 price burgers. They are worth the full price and so much sweeter at 1/2 price. Enjoy the peace by sitting outside on the patio. The clientele is a little older. But that's because they know a deal when they see it!

We went here on a Sat. night after several other nearby faves were already up to hour waits. With a 19 month old that's not happening. We drove by this place several times before but just didn't think to try it. It was pretty quiet (on a Sat. night?). The patrons were almost all over 70+. We felt really out of place with our toddler but the staff were friendly and got the job done. The food was good not great. A solid B but overpriced for what it was. We had the spinach artichoke dip. MMy wife had the Mediterranean chicken pasta and I had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich. Yummy and prepared well but like I said a solid B. I guess I'm lowballing my score somewhat because this place is kind of a paradox and you can see the potential but just not there now. In the same place where we felt totally out of place with a toddler and felt kinda bad for invading the senior citizens wine and cheese watering hole unknowingly, the kids menu was Awesome. Our daughter got a 5 oz steak cooked very well for just $5. She inhaled every bite. How is it that the best thing they do and the best value they have is on the children's menu and like I said average age is over 70? We would go back again, but feel like with a little better management and marketing this "B" could be something better than it is. Worth a check though.

I've eaten lunch at Bistro 44 many times and it's been good every time. I particularly love the Mediterranean Salad with grilled chicken. The salad dressing is excellent. Coffee is always good.

LOVE their food! I ordered their Mediterranean salad and it was fresh, crisp, and NOT swimming in sauce. My only complaint is that the tables are REALLY close together.

Bistro 44 .. Was VERY TASTEY ... The food was fresh and had a real great flavor .. Half off burgers on Sunday with a drink purchase can't beat that ! Just needs a decor update .

I can't tell you how many times I have driven past this place, saw the sign for 1/2 price burger ($6 plus $.75 for cheese) Sunday and said to myself, "Mmmm.., burgers.' My wife finally got tired my my yapping about it and caved in. Off we went... This visit was a far cry from our last visit. We sat in the bar again, which was not too busy this time. The bartender/server brought us menus, which we really didn't need because we knew we were getting burgers. She asks what we want to drink. My wife orders a glass of house Merlot, but I have to ruminate on my drink choice since their tap beer "selection" is less than appealing I end up with a glass of house Cabernet. That should tell you everything you need to know about their three tap beers. We order our burgers. We drink our wine and wait for our burgers. The servers stops by and lets us know that the burger comes with aioli on it (actually she told us when we ordered) and asks us what other condiments we would like. We can get ranch (or chipotle ranch) for our fries, extra aioli, dijon or yellow mustard... whatever condiments our hearts desire. She offers just to bring all she mentioned plus ketchup. I feared we would be charged for this buffet of condiments. We were not. The burgers arrive. Wine is OK BB (before burger), but i need a beer with my burger, so I break down and order a Stella. At least it was cold and served in a chilled glass. Back to the burger... accompanied by prior mentioned condiment bar as well as butter lettuce, tomato, red onion and a pickle spear, the properly cooked, well seasoned, angus beef burger was one of the better burgers I have had... and I am picky about burgers. The shoestring fries were crispy and the condiment-o-rama to dip them in provided great variety. Our server was super friendly. I asked her if this 1/2 price burger Sunday special is here to stay. She said she is not sure if it's just for the summer. I say, if you are a burger fan, don't take a chance. Get down there while it's still summer.

We've driven past bistro44 plenty of times, and in the search for an east side restaurant we decided (based on reviews) to stop in on a Sunday evening. We most definitely should have read those reviews a little more thoroughly. The ambiance was something out of a graduated furr's cafeteria, with 60+ women complaining loudly in the quiet and awkward dining area about the lack of sorbet. The building has so much potential, why on earth would anyone paint muted khaki tones over such beautiful brick paired with the retro popcorn ceilings? Although we had high hopes, the "calamari" resembles mozzarella sticks found in a frozen food section at fry's. Any creature dawning more than four legs should be celebrated, especially when in the menu is described as "panko fried". Or salads on the other hand, were overpriced, yet fulfilling and delicious! Service was prompt and personable, but we were quite bummed as we were leaving to see a sign informing us that it was indeed steak night (whatever that means). Overall, the experience was luke warm. We may return again if we're hungry enough and craving a not-so-busy environment.

I've been here many times for lunch and never had a meal I didn't like. The entree salads are great! Service is friendly and prompt. The best thing is that it's quiet here ... no raucous music or loud kitchen noise.

20 of our neighborhood association went her for dinner. We ate on the patio--all to ourselves so the conversation was great. Our service was a little slow, but that was okay because we were there to socialize. The waiter recommended the chicken soup--it was alright, but not spectacular. I was very happy with the chicken and dumplings for my main course. A side of vegetables was very nice: spaghetti squash, carrots and broccoli. My wife had the steak and blue cheese salad. The steak was nicely prepared. The girl across the table from me had the Diablo Shrimp and the look on her face said it was very good.

We live in the neighborhood by this restaurant and we really like the food. The staff is friendly and normally the service is great. They are always willing to split entrees for us and the food is always fresh and good. They make great soups also.

Boy has this place declined. Used to be among our favorites for a casual meal at reasonable prices. They have taken some excellent stuff off the menu and jacked up their prices. The food is nothing special and not particularly good. Too bad. They once were much better.

Older crowd for lunch. . .bread isn't bad. . .2 different kinds. I had the mediterranean chicken pasta. . .according to the bartender, Rick (the owner) made it. It was subtle. Not to strong pesto sauce with artichokes, cut olives, and cherry roma tomatoes. I wasn't sure after the 1st bite, but at the end, the flavor really started to come alive as my taste buds readjusted. Bar area is separated from the main dining area. There was a group of senior playing bridge during lunch. I thought that was interesting. Comfortable atmosphere. I would come here again. Bartender has a type "A" personality, but she is good at her job. I almost confused her with the Yelp coupon. . .but she recovered swimmingly.

Consistently GREAT food, excellent service, very friendly staff, fabulous bar, very reasonable prices, and they serve a most excellent glass of wine (not measured out in a thimble like some places). Indisputably, the best burger in town!

Second time here! Both times the service was good but the food quality, not. I ordered the "spaghetti incident" with meatballs, the meatballs were really pink. So the server ordered me a second batch, of course I had to wait again. As I was waiting for about 10 mins, the rest of my dish was getting cold. My first time getting undercooked meat, I would expect the server to offer something of some sort, but no. I don't think they handled it quite well.

Met the boys from the office for lunch on Wednesday. Simple and well thought out menu. Chicken club was kickass so were the fries. Our server was the gal with the ink and she was awesome. Took excellent care of us. I'll be back for sure.

Wanted a burger for lunch and saw on their website they fit the bill. Got there and no burger on the b&m menu. In fact the whole sandwich section disappeared. Just pasta. So I ate the peanut Thai pasta that was good but no burger. Service was great and this has to be the cleanest restaurant I've been in in years. They just need to lunchify their lunch menu.

We've been to Bistro 44 a few times now, most recently tonight, and it's always been solidly good. Tonight we both had the Steak & Cheese sandwich, mine with the au gratin potatoes and my husband had the french fries. The steak was cooked maybe a tad too long, but it was soft, tender, tasty, and fresh. The bun was delicious, the cheese tasted like it was good quality, and the peppers and onions were caramelized and seasoned perfectly. The au gratin potatoes continue to be the selling point for me. They're a somewhat unique side dish to find in town, and they're made very well here. We've had them when they've been too salty in the past, but tonight they were seasoned delightfully. I wish they gave me more! The french fries were also good, better than most I've had. We've tried other dishes in the past including the Pepper Bacon Wrapped Filet and the Chile Rellenos, and those were also prepared well and very tasty. The tenderloin filet is tender and flavorful, and the wine sauce that accompanies it is perfect! The service was great tonight -- friendly and attentive. We've been here in the past where we've had trouble getting drink refills, though. The prices are ok, and the ambience is cozy and peaceful. I would definitely recommend Bistro 44 to anyone.

This will probably end up being my last visit to Bistro 44. It was a very disappointing dining experience. I used to think this place was better than just an "OK," and I did like the ambiance and food before. I don't know what happened, but unfortunately, the quality of food and the service really took a nosedive recently. I felt the money we spent was wasted. Let's get right into the food. We had the Shrimp Diablo and the Chef's special Lamb Rack that night. These two dishes were terrible and just overpriced. The shrimp Diablo was $18.99 with only a few pieces of medium sized shrimp. The pasta sauce on the fettuccine accompanying the dish was tasteless (I've tasted better Ragu), and the fettuccine was way overcooked. Very mushy! After a few bites, I quit eating it even though I still felt hungry. The Lamb Rack was $28 with 4 small pieces of Lamb. The meat was super tough and again, overcooked, even though we had ordered it medium rare. I had to use a lot of effort just to cut the meat. There were no any special flavors on the lamb (except it was a little gamier than I prefer), and honestly, I think my husband makes a better Rack of Lamb dish with lamb purchased from Costco. It annoyed me to pay so much for such unsuccessful dishes. The service was slow and inattentive, so they did not make us happy customers that night.

Like some other yelpers, this was our first and last visit to the restaurant for many reasons. If you see the restaurant and think, "Oh, Bistro 44, a steakhouse! Maybe we should try it out," don't do it. Don't waste your money here, spend it somewhere else. The menu is limited and boring. The food is very overpriced and not worth spending the money on based on the quality of food. We ordered the ribeye steak and let's just say if McDonalds made ribeye steak it'd be better. This piece of meat they served us was very fatty and stringy. The vegetables were mushy, without flavor, and looked like they just came out of the freezer. The waitress was rude and inattentive, and argued with us at the end when we questioned the final price. The clientele is older, and the atmosphere is not too welcoming to younger generations. We were overcharged on the food (we were told the food we ordered was a special for the night, when in fact our waitress argued with us that we heard her wrong and tried charging us the full price, we had to call a manager to resolve the conflict). Overall bad experience for many different reasons, we will not be back and we will not recommend this to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Some dishes are good and some really aren't. Seems hit and miss based on the handful of times I've been here. It's okay but for that price range I'd choose a different Tanque Verde area restaurant. Outdoor seating is OK but loud if there are multiple parties out because of how it's enclosed.

We were regular customers for many years and recently we planned to go to dinner there at 840 on a Saturday night and we were told that because they were slow they had closed the kitchen already even though their website stated they were open until 10. I emailed the restaurant to complain and got no response. I then called and asked to speak with the manager. She advised me that since they are a privately owned business they could close whenever they choose to. I asked to have the owner call me and he never did. I guess they won't have our business anymore.

This review is based on half price burger Sunday. I have only been here this one time. Juicy burger cooked to medium on a delicious bun. I asked for jalapeños and when they arrived they were FRESH and not pickled which I loved. Not only that, they even grilled them without me asking. Awesome! Service was great. Ill be back some Sunday soon!

Hubby and I decided to have a fancy dinner out and Bistro 44 filled the bill. The restaurant is peaceful despite being on Tanque Verde. Our waitress was friendly, but didn't know anything about their wine menu so we just ordered a light red wine. I ordered the Steak Diane and Hubby had the Lamb Shank. Both were cooked beautifully, served with mashed potatoes. Everything was truly delicious. The next time we want to have a fabulous dinner, we'll head here!

Long day, great dinner. Had the ribs and rack of lamb specials with a salad and nice wine. No kids this time - looks like its fine either way. Might bring em for burger special on Sunday. :)

Food was great. The sliders are the best around, my wife had the lamb and she enjoyed it very much. Nice place for a quiet dinner for 2 or a crowd. Very good food and great service.

Maybe I was just in a bad mood or something, but I was really, REALLY not a fan of the food here. I got the groupon deal $14 for $28, I think it was, and it was to the point that I didn't even use the full value of the coupon, like I normally at least try to do. I had: French onion soup Chicken and dumplings There was a good 1/3" layer of cheese on the soup, enough that it became difficult to eat as the dish cooled. The broth was not offensive, mostly because it didn't actually taste like anything. I salted the heck out of the remaining soup and it was alright. The chicken and dumplings consisted of two small boiled skin on bone in chicken thighs and a mass of doughy, floury dumplings with some browned onions on top. This was swimming in a brown broth, which I couldn't recognize the base stock of. There was, again, basically no flavor. After salting heavily, I finished it. That's not it, though. The side for the chicken and dumplings was "seasonal vegetables". This consisted of steamed baby broccoli, carrots and... shredded summer squash. There was a slight buttery flavor to the vegetables, which was odd considering they were steamed. These also required heavy salting to make them actually taste like anything. I honestly don't know what they were thinking with shredded steamed summer squash. I was the only customer under the age of 50 I saw the entire time I was there. I felt like I was on the "before" take of a Gordon Ramsay show. There's a lot of potential here, with the nice location and alright service, but the concepts, preparation, presentation and seasoning of, well, everything I tasted fell short. Ultimately, it just feels dated.

Went to Bistro 44 for dinner with a few friends. We felt welcomed the minute we walked in, we were greeted by a hostess, Seated right away. we were approached by a server as soon as we sat. I was surprised because the place seemed very busy. Our server was excellent, took a drink order, told us the specials and made a few suggestions for us. being our first time there we all tried something different. No disappointments here!! Service and food were excellent and we will be back.

We visited Bistro 44 for the first time last night, and I was impressed enough to say that I will give it a second try. However, I wasn't impressed enough to give it more than 3 stars. We ate in the bar area, and I liked the atmosphere. Dark, but not so dark you couldn't tell what you were eating. Four or five tv's, but none of them had the sound turned up. We only had appetizers, and they ranged in quality from excellent to just ok. First up, the steak skewers on homemade coleslaw was excellent. Great tasting slaw and tender meat made it a real treat. The pineapple shrimp were huge, and tasted ok, but the side sauces needed more flavor. The one that was supposed to be tangy wasn't. Finally, their much talked about sliders were just ok. Not a lot of flavor, and I was underwhelmed. They had many beers in bottles, but only three on tap. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere enough that I will go back and give an actual dinner or lunch a try.

This morning before I met a friend here I checked their website to look at the menu. Nowhere did it say that they were closed this week for remodeling. A website is a very valuable tool to let your customers know this kind of information!
