This place was awesome...my wife and I stopped there on the way back to Fort Smith Saturday evening around 5. it looked crowded for a small place, but the inside it was surprisingly large and we were able to get a table. As the name would infer, it's got a western theme inside, with bare playwood walls covered in western art, with several branding irons also used as wall decoration. The overhead lights were cool..check them out. Since we hadn't eaten since early AM, we got the sweet potato french fries to start. They were piping hot and served with some awesome dipping sauce that was buttery sweet. The special was an all you can eat steak, shrimp, and fried catfish plate with two sides for $16.99. I ordered it, but the steak was pretty good sized, so I never did get another plate. The sirloin was a perfect med-rare and darned tasty. There was some type of au-jus with it that made for a great dunk. The shrimp and catfish were garden-variety, but were hot when they got to the table. Coleslaw was pretty darned tasty and they had some type of hush puppy that was good, but missing something to make it great. My wife ordered the ribeye and it was cooked dead on medium. They make their own pies and we picked up a couple pieces to take home with us. The Wildcat and Bear Cat were two buttermilk, coconut pies that were good, if not a little sweet. Overall, the place served good food, was reasonably priced and the folks who owned it were friendly. I understood from talking with one of the owners that they've had it for a couple years under their management. Glad we stopped in and will defiantly stop again.

This place is great! I highly recommend the fried pies. Scrumptious. I've had the grilled ham and cheese on a couple of occasions and loved it both times. I've had one of their salads which was delightful. Ironically, I've never tried the barbecue. The bf had a steak and baked potato last time and was very pleased. The waitresses are friendly. The menu is extensive for a small place like this, and the food is good and cheap... Course I'm used to Dallas prices. To me, this is the best place to eat in Mena hands down.

My understanding is there is a new owner, the service seems to have suffered some, but he steaks are still fantastic.

The steaks are awesome! They have a house butter which makes them melt in your mouth. The steaks were cooked just how we asked them to be. Dinner salad wasn't that awesome but the bread bar made up for that. The bread sticks are the best thing on the bread bar. Dip them in the oil & add red crushed pepper and wow. Our waitress was very friendly & made sure everything was how it needed to be. If back in Mena we will be back to have those awesome steaks.

Being from Chicago, there aren't many "foodie" restaurants to choose from in Mena. The Branding Iron was suggested, and we were happy for a recommendation. Overall, this is a great restaurant. Fun decor, good service, lots of seating. They also serve liquor/beer (and last I knew, Mena was in a dry county). I had the catfish dinner with cole slaw and loaded mashed potatoes. The potatoes were fantastic, the cole slaw had a huge amount, and catfish was perfect - great cornmeal crust and not overly fried. I really enjoyed the "bread bar", also. At first I didn't understand what it meant, but was pleasantly surprised when I walked over to look at it. The parmesan crusted breadsticks dipped in oil were awesome! The biggest complaint I had was the music. It was very loud, and unexpected. I wish we could have turned down the volume a bit! Music aside, I would certainly revisit.

Me and my buddy went for a ride through Talimena Pkwy. After about 250 miles from Dallas, it was time to eat! He had the chicken fried chicken with double mashed potatoes. Very large piece of chicken and tasty according to him. I had the fish basket special. Catfish, fries, cole slaw and hash puppies, all for 7 bucks. Very good stuff all around. Would return if in the area again.

Absolutely delicious! The bread bar had several choices and they were all good. The staff was very pleasant. I will defiantly go back.

The chicken fried steak was recommended to me, in addition to the chicken fried chicken and fried catfish. The Branding Iron I think is one of 2 restaurants in town with a liquor license, so that's also some folks may be interested in knowing. I went with the chicken fried steak and it was really good. It's only the second time in my life I've eaten this cuisine because I'm convinced that it's the most fattening meal in creation. They did a really good job on it and the breading was crispy/flaky. The meal also came with 2 sides. The service was also prompt and friendly. The price was also vary reasonable. I guess I'm not giving it a better rating because eating healthy and tasty seems very limited. I suggest that the Branding Iron take fried food and the unlimited bread bar off of their lighter fare menu and add some tasty, healthy options. Also, I think it would be nice to eliminate the bread bar and put in a salad bar. Maybe bring a basket of bread to the table but a bread bar seems excessive.

Tried it again. Was very disappointed in pulled pork and brisket. Tasted like the commercial stuff from Wal Mart. Service and bread bar was great.
