There's something magical in the buns at Mugshots. They advertise their buns as sourdough, but they have a sweet awesomeness to them that I can't quite pin my finger on (a shot of pancake batter maybe?). Enough about the bun, on to the main feature. The meat. Every burger I've had here has been glorious. Most recently it was the Sgt. Pepper Jack, which had an obvious type of cheese on it and a bonus onion ring to round it out. Wish I'd subbed onion rings for my fries after tasting that one on the burger. Craft beer selection is limited, but there were a few options that were worthwhile.

Ok...lets be honest, the buns are not Sour Dough. The buns are Hawaiian sweet bread. I was kind of shocked to take a bite of my yummy pizza burger to find sweet chewy bread in my mouth. After reviewing the menu that said the buns made the deal...wow...am I the only one who noticed this? While the Mojitos are claimed as a signature drink, they are the kind of Mojitos that are slightly bitter, what happened to me sweet Mojito? Is this Alabama style Mojito, or Mississippi style Mojito? Dunno...just wasn't worth $7.00, even after sending it back, it came a 2nd time like totally watery, tasteless drink. I guess bartender tossed some sugar into my melting drink instead of remaking it properly..;bartender gets 3 thumbs down. The salad was great, but was warm. The BLT was again on sweet Hawaiian bread, more like sweet chewy BLT, kind of gross and greasy. Fried Pickles were Hamburger dills, OK...not super star boom. On the positive, the waiter was super cool and friendly. The crowd was lively and good ambiance, outdoor seating and large tables great for a group. But...bathrooms were filthy. I was kind of surprised at how crowded the place was with a D+ food/drink delivery. I guess there are not so many options in Vestavia. Seriously, maybe I am spoiled with great culinary choices in my greater cosmopolitan travels I wouldn't really recommend this place for a meal. But would recommend it for some friends getting together to drink good craft beer... Unless you are really into sweet bread.

We're not familiar with all things Birmingham and stopped in here for a test! AWESOME food, great service. The patio is really nice. I got the pineapple chicken sandwich and my bf got the mahi fish sandwich -FANTASTIC!

Best burgers in Bhm. This time it's the turkey burger & sweet potato fries. Outside patio is great with heaters to take the chill off. Staff is great & friendly. Might have to try the peanut butter burger when I have more time.

This Mugshots in Vestavia have some of the best burgers you will ever taste. Nice juicy meat placed on a sweet roll bread. Always fast service, good drinks and cheap prices. Highly recommend the burger with the Egg and Grape Jelly. It may sound weird, but trust me, it's really REALLY a good. Everyone I have challenged to eat that burger didn't want to. Now it's all they order EVERYTIME they go.

Great Steakburger and tasty sweet potato fries! Large portions!! I split one with my husband every time! Good patio for groups in back! Clean, fast service! Large bar!

As a new vegetarian, I have been on the lookout for restaurants with good vegetarian options. SO glad I found Mug Shots. They have a char-grilled veggie burger that is absolutely devine! It is served on a moist, fresh, perfectly textured bun, piled with veggies (including sautéed mushrooms), melted cheese and sauce -- perfectly complimented with a side of crispy sweet potato fries. This is comfort food at its best! Mug Shots is famous for its burgers and I just wanted to be sure that their veggie burger gets the credit it deserves. $9.80 with tax.

Mugshots is one of our casual dining favorites. We have tried many items on the menu and our favorites are the mahi-mahi sandwich and the steak burger. The bread is always fresh and the meats are hot off the grill. The only disappointment I had was the Philly Cheesesteak. The taste was great, but it was served on a hamburger-type bun which is not great for this type of sandwich. The meat kept falling out of the bun on all sides. An added bonus is they serve local brewed beers. We do eat at the bar a lot since there is a long wait on the weekends and the bartenders are knowledgeable about the beer brands.

I've yet to have a less than delicious venture to Mugshots so far. It's in a great little shopping plaza area with all kinds of stuff to do just in walking distance, including the movie theater just next door. I'm a huge fan of Mugshots burgers, salads, and whatever else I've had there that I've forgotten. They're more of a regional, local restaurant, but I'm digging their quality for real.

Not the friendliest or attentive wait staff. Went with a group of 13 and we all came to the same conclusion that the burgers were just average. Keep looking for a better joint.

I've eaten at this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. Every burger I've eaten is great, especially the peanut butter burger with Swiss and bacon. My sister always gets the philly cheese and loves it. I'm not crazy about the beer battered fries so I usually get a salad instead, but a lot of people tell me they like them. There is usually a wait when I go, but I can't blame anyone from waiting to eat here. Highly recommend.

Mugshots has some of the most unique burgers I've seen. I'm not usually this adventurous, but I ordered the pizza burger and loved it. It's served on a sourdough bun and the beer battered fries are addicting. Next time I might try the PB&J burger...

Was pretty disappointed tonight. While I appreciated the service, the food was....below par. We brought friends from out of town, and they said they were ok with it....but if their burgers were anything like ours, then they weren't as good as I've felt they were before. We shared the fried mushroom appetizer...there were 7 of us and it came with one small ramekin of ranch that....you really just can't share amongst 7 people. The mushrooms seemed to be on the peppery side tonight, that was weird. David, his sister, and I shared the McDonald and the Peanut Butter Burger. As always, it's plenty of food--add the fries/onion rings and it's just a heart attack on a plate. But usually a tasty one. Tonight our burgers came out cold and just....not good. We don't go often because it's just not a healthy choice all around....but now I really don't know when we'll be back. It may have been slow tonight because of the football games, but it shouldn't give the kitchen an excuse to neglect their duties.

The most famous place to eat in Vestavia, which is not saying a whole lot. The burgers are great. I was a bit skeptical of the Mugshots hype, but the place really delivers on the food. The service is not spectacular, and you should expect waits for supper. However, the burgers, onion rings, and fries keep folks coming back. The trick is a thick, sweet bun on every burger. Mugshots also has a nice 12 seater bar with six beers on draft and an extensive bottle selection.

Peanut Butter Burger is SO good. Going to try the Chili burger next! P: Took a while to get a table since it was so crowded but that can be overlooked due to a good burger and unique options. My only complaint is that there were not enough staff there for quick service.

Can't give any stars because I didn't get to try the food. I am one to always give the benefit of the doubt...but... So we thought we would try a new spot today. Maybe Saturday at lunch was not the time to try Mugshots. 20 min wait...no problem. Two sets of customers seated before us (when we did request 1st available) ...a problem. We decide to stay ...then after 5-7 min wait for 2 waters...I give up. With my husband you get 1 shot ...today wasn't your day I'm afraid. At old faithful Davenports now. Never disappoints.

Ate here with a colleague from work, First time i have visited this establishment. And all i can say is WELL DONE mugshots. If you are looking for a very good burger this IS the place. Ate here tonight with my husband and 5 year old son. I got the Cajun chicken salad and it was just ok. The lettuce was brownish and watery and needed some more veggies. The few sprinkles of diced tomatoes were useless. My son got the grilled cheese. One side was completely burned. But the fries were good. My husband got the 18 piece wings with hot sauce and asked for them to be extra crispy. There was nothing crisp about them. The skin was soggy and limp. The onion rings he ordered in the side were no better. Soggy, greasy and cold. Unfortunately we were starving so we ate what we could. Maybe we should have let our server know but we already waited way too long for sub par food. We just wanted to eat and get out of there. I'm really disappointed. We have been here a few times but this experience really turned me off. We won't be back.

Really really wanted to like this place, but it was just ok. The burgers were pretty creative and the interior was pretty neat. I really like their pictures of their fans with their merch all over the world. The problem was the waitress never asked her party of 10 how they wanted their burger. I like mine medium rare, this was medium well. The onion rings and fries were just ok, and they forgot my bf's mushrooms on their own specialty burger. All in all, next time I visit BHAM I think would go back because it's the best place I have been in town so far!!

Great burgers and really great french fries! My husband said its the best burger he has ever had. I loved the french fries. I would have given them four stars but the service was not really as good as it could have been. I had to wait ages for my corona and it was not cold. Still, its a great casual place to have a great burger and fries.

Fabulous!!!! One of the best burgers I have ever had: the comeback burger was insane! I got it with their greet beer batted fries. My friend got the same with onion rings which were excellent! Definitely a great spot to grab a quick lunch or dinner on the CHEAP! For the portion size and quality it was a great deal. Two of us ate and had sodas for $22. Not too shabby! Also, shutout to the bartender. He was super attentive and great!

I'm now a regular here. If it's your first time go with a burger. Backyard smokey taste and huge. The buns are what makes all their sandwiches, a sweet sourdough that goes great with the burgers or chicken. Beer batter fries come standard and are great but I always order the onion rings or a salad. Never had room for dessert. Tried fried pickles once and recommended if your really hungry. My favorites are McDonald, Hicks or Bond chicken.

Good gracious gluttony! Come here ready to stuff your face. Wait staff is super friendly. Great beer selection and prices ($2 domestic, $3 imports, and they don't skimp on the serving size). Had the Pepper Jack burger with fries, which meant I had leftovers. Was glad to see a burger with a fried egg on the menu, and at some point I will have to try the peanut butter burger or take the Mugshot challenge, because I'm obviously at war with my insides.

We don't come here often enough. They have great burgers, but the rest of their food is always really good too. Fast and friendly service. Affordable prices. I recently got one of their salads and it was really good. I've tried most of the burgers and my favorite is probably the McDonald.

I've been trying to figure out why I hadn't submitted a review for Mugshots here in town already, and the only thing I could think of was that I'm lazy as 'ell. This place is friggin' awesome. Not because of extraordinary singer wait staff, or because it feels like Cheers and I'm Norm everytime I step up in the place, but because of what you want to be the reason - the food. Mugshots offers some of the best burgers available in the city IMHO and more importantly, for an insane price point. Every single time I visit, I find myself staring at the latter quarter of my consistently ridiculously large burger, wondering not only if I can finish it, but how they're going to wheel my now 7-lbs heavier frame out the door and to my car; and all for less than $10 a burger! Insane... My wife and I got back there last night and Mr. Eyes-Bigger-Than-His-Stomach got a Steak Burger, which comes with the large burger template, with pepper-jack, and actual cuts of juicy, flavorful steak *piled* on top of the beef patty, not to mention a dump-truck sized portion of beer-battered fries. And like always, I waddled out of the place swearing to never eat that much again, only to look forward to the next visit when I can *eat that much again*. But man oh man was it worth it... I'm totally not a glutton, but you almost have to be if you plan on sitting back and enjoying a burger at Mugshots. It's that much and it's that good - my recommendation to anyone that's looking to challenge his/her appetite with some good Cow for the night. Enjoy! :)

Atmosphere was nice. Waitress gave me wrong information when I asked a question regarding the chili they put on the chili cheese fries. No big deal. The burger was big so I cut it in half to eat it and found a small bit of blue plastic. Not good as now I was wondering what else was in there with every bite I took. I didn't find anything else but the next day my wife told me she found something in her chili cheese fries too. Sorry I can do better for a good burger than that and not worry about what is in the burger that shouldn't be there. Won't be going back. Also, I saw someone say this was "on the CHEAP"... Where are they eating burgers at where this place is cheap. It's not horrible but it's far from cheap.

WOW!! this place was GREAT!! tried the MacDonald named after one of the owners. And what a burger. Tried the fries, onions rings, and fried dill pickle chips and all where GREAT. This is the closest thims to grilling your own hand pattied burger. Now I went on a Friday night and the wait was little long, but they are new so. Plenty of flat screens to enjoy the game on, including the large patio. Overall looking forward to tryong out more on the menu.

Thanks to fellow yelpers for getting us to Mugshots for lunch on a recent trip to Hoover (Birmingham) Alabama. We came here because of the Yelp reviews and the terrific bread! It is a cool looking restaurant that was tucked away in a suburban office/retail area with a movie theater. I ordered Mahi Mahi fish tacos. I probably should have ordered a burger which is their staple, but I just was not in the mood. My wife ordered Philly cheesesteak on the burger bun adding mushrooms. My fish tacos were good although not as seasoned as I would have liked. My wife's sandwich was outstanding. The flavors were just wonderful, and the bread, well it really is special. It has a Hawaiian kind of sweetness but is crossed with sourdough. The bun is very soft yet toasted it was able to handle the the weight of the meat. I ended up eating half of hers, she was not happy. As I said earlier, I should have ordered a burger. They looked terrific coming out to others. Nice large patty with nice options to accompany. With that bun I am sure they are great. I could just imagine coming to Mugshots in the evening for a burger and beer. I bet it is hoping in the evenings. I wish I could have stayed another night to enjoy. The walls have pictures of customers who have traveled and sent back "mugshots". Neat idea and great advertising! We truly enjoyed our lunch. Great job Mugshots!

Heard this place was good and decided to give it a try. Reviews are true to form, pickles are as good as everyone says. The burger my hubby had looked awesome and he ate every bite. I have to say my Mahi Mahi sandwich was so, so good. Get the sandwich, not the plate for the bun. Oh yes, the buns rock!! I like this place and I will go back.

Mugshots has the best burgers in town. My favorite is the Peanut Butter burger...with jelly. Ok, it sounds gross...but it's life changing. Well, maybe not that that dramatic, but it's really good. I would eat here 7 days a week.

Fun and relaxed atmosphere. Good to with a few friends, a big group, or with the whole family. Inside there are booths and tables. They also have an outside area. It's always confusing which side is the real entrance as you can enter from both sides of the restaurant. Whatever way you come in just find the bar Bc the hostess stand is right next to it and she will seat you. The usual American cuisine, Average beer selection- not sure about the wine or cocktail situation. Always friendly and fast service. Buffalo chicken salad is okay. Burgers are yum. Really big mostly Bc of the bun but they are big. Fairly greasy food so I usually crave it after a big night out. Big portions and upper moderately priced. 2 locations now in Birmingham which is cool.

My husband really wanted to go here this weekend and so we went with high expectations because of the reviews on here. Expectations exceeded. My husband says this is hands down the best burger he's ever had (he had the chili burger). The buns were delicious, the food was fresh and amazing, just absolutely no complaints. I had the veggie burger with extra sautéed mushrooms, it was phenomenal. My first impression of this place was that it reminded me a bit of Taco Mac, my last impression was that Taco Mac wishes it was Mugshots. We will definitely be back.

My favorite burger place in town. The sourdough bun is the key to making the best burger that I've had in Birmingham. This franchise has been consistent at all the locations that I've been to (Vestavia, AL; Starkville, MS & Birmingham, AL). My favorite is the McDonald. Comeback burger is good as well. Definitely recommend the comeback sauce for your fries. When I come here for lunch I usually sit at the bar. Generally seated immediately and order as soon as I decide. I love mugshots and will definitely return and would recommend. I got the peanut butter burger with grape jelly which was great. I ordered sweet potato fries but they brought me regular, though the waitress was really quick in exchanging them out. Great place for food and fun!

Mugshots is the place for probably the best burger in Birmingham! Their menu includes a wide variety a burgers with virtually any topping that you could want--including peanut butter! My personal favorite is the McDonald burger with BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar cheese. The chicken sandwiches are also very good--I recommend the Dixie Chicken or the Buffalo Chicken. Also for sandwiches, there is a choice of a white or wheat bun both of which are high quality and make the sandwich stand out. For a side, I like the beer-battered fries, but the grilled vegetables are also a good choice. There are a few salads and entree type items on the menu for those who don't want a sandwich. Mugshots makes surprisingly good cocktails and has some good choices on their specialty cocktail menu including a spicy Bloody Mary and a Blue Jay which includes rum and blue curaçao. At the Vestavia location, the patio is a great place to sit outside and enjoy a meal. And they don't advertise as "dog friendly", but I've seen a few mutts sitting under their owner's table on the patio. Mugshots is a great place to sit down and enjoy a top-notch sandwich at a reasonable price in a great atmosphere!

I'm only knocking off a star because I feel a little gluttonous every time I walk out of Mugshots. I just wish this place was around when I was in high school and could eat like a stone-cold champ with no remorse. The bun pretty much makes the whole deal, and it's so ubiquitous that you'll find the hawaiian roll cut up and used as dippy toast for pasta dishes. That's flippin resourceful! I like to think of myself as a connoisseur of Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches, and the Brisco Inferno is as good or better than Bob Baumhower's Royal Rooster (one person who reads this will be shocked). As a Vestavian (Vestavite?), I couldn't be happier about Mugshots being in the City Center.

A friend ordered the Honey BBQ wings as an appetizer and they were very good. Crispy with a touch of sweetness. I ordered the Club Sandwich and it was fantastic. The sandwich was on sour dough and it was pressed like a panini. I had onion rings as a side and they were very good also. My wife ordered the Big Khahuna, a burger with a slice of grilled pineapple with BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar cheese. She said it was delicious. She also loved the sweet potato fries that came with the sandwich. The service was fantastic and very attentive. Great atmosphere and very family friendly. Highly recommend.

It was Ok. The burger was seasoned well. The fries taste great! The bread tastes like Hawaiian sweet bread. BUT, the portion of fries was skimpy and my Sgt. Pepper burger did not have pepper Jack cheese on it. It was good, but not great.

Over done, under seasoned. If you like your burger cooked to death and strangely devoid of flavor, you'll love this place. They say that it's cooked to order and that's true as long as you order well done. The combinations sound promising but the flavors absolutely under deliver. We've tried it twice and sent food back twice.

Last night, I was part of a large group of men who dined at Mugshots. We arrived about 6:30 and it took them about 30 minutes to get enough tables and chairs together for us to all sit together. I do not fault them for that since we showed up unexpected. However, if they would allow large parties to call ahead and inform them of the group's arrival, that might have been averted. However, on to the service. The waitress was very young and very nice. She took our orders and most of us informed her that we were with one other in the party so that she could make the bills out accordingly. When it came to time get the bill, for some reason, she gave me one separate from my friend (I made a point to tell her when we ordered to that we were together); that's not really a big deal as we just put the 2 bills together to pay. Unfortunately, she messed the bill up 4 times before we could actually pay to get out of there. This is not the first time this has happened at Mugshots, but it will be the last for this big group as we have decided to remove Mugshots from our Thursday night dinner rotation. The burgers, which at one time I thought were outstanding, were good but nothing to write home about. My friend and I ordered chocolate shakes, and they came in plastic cups and we paid $5 apiece (I've had a chocolate shake there before and it was served in a big glass and it held much more than the plastic cups last night did), There's a new Mugshots over in the Civic Center area, and we heard they're building one on HWY 280 and one in Pelham, so we might try one of those, but will not go back to the one in Vestavia.

New to the Vestavia area (doesn't even show up on Google maps yet), Mugshots sits directly adjacent to the Rave. The ambiance is completely different from the Tuscaloosa location: a one-story restaurant plugged into a line of other storefront restaurants in a new-style building. They do have an excellent patio area out back/front, depending on which way you enter the restaurant. The burgers were good, what you'd expect of one served up at Mugshots. I asked for the Walker and my lovely bride ordered the parmesan chicken alfredo pasta. Both items were served hot and fresh, and the pasta arrived in such a large portion that a lot of it went home with us. A decent location that seems like it could be a fun place to hang out, but nothing super spectacular.

Enjoy! :)

WOW!! this place was GREAT!! tried the MacDonald named after one of the owners.

As someone who does not often eat burgers, I really want a good one when I do. The first sign that we were not only in a great burger joint, but possibly The Burger Joint, was the number of people coming for take-out. In a burger joint. Really? We ate there on a Saturday night with every seat full. We chose to eat at the bar to bypass the 30-minute wait, and we were seated right in front of a large screen showing the Bama game. Drinks (including Sam Adams Oktoberfest on tap) came within 5 minutes. Burgers arrived within 30 minutes of walking in, piping hot, which is impressive given how busy they were. The cook made a great choice to bring the burgers before the sweet potato fries, which were still sizzling and absolutely delicious, clearly hand cut. They arrived about 5 minutes later, absolutely fresh. So the service was great. Now to the burgers. The guys who started this bar/restaurant spent some time in Hawaii, and the buns are clearly influenced by King Hawaiian rolls, though they got the spongy consistency and took out a good bit of the sweet, with just enough left to balance the savory of the burger. A carefully balanced taste-texture experience. The burgers are flavored, not just a hunk of meat, and they were dripping juicy and hot. MMMM. I usually don't pay that much attention to the lettuce, but here things were chopped and the amount of onion was not overwhelming. I had the mushroom burger, so the shrooms and chopped lettuce/onions/mayo were all mingled together nicely. This was the best burger I've ever eaten, hands down. My friends all agreed, and one of them was a burger fanatic. We will be back.

Delicious! Didn't plan on eating at this place for lunch the other day but the sushi place we wanted to go to was closed. Lucky for us, we found this place. We each had a different burger and they were all a good size and delicious! We'd definitely go back.

So . . . . unfortunately so many people had told me that this was the BEST burger in Birmingham and that I would be blown away. I had VERY large expectations for this place and of course I had built it up to be amazing. It was good, but it wasn't AMAZING like I had expected it. The burgers are ok, they have a lot of choices. The menu in general is really nice, lots of choices. I ordered a STU'S MAGIC MUSHROOM. I was with a group of about 6 people. After giving my order I realized that I hadn't told the waiter how I wanted my burger (I am a rare girl, it's a sin to overcook beef). Anyway, I ended up getting up from our table to find our waiter to make sure I could get the burger Rare. He told me it wouldn't be a problem. Of course, I get that I should have told him how I wanted it cooked, but on the other hand, if you are a waiter at a burger place wouldn't you ask how someone wants their burger. Anyway, my burger came out and of course it was cooked well done. I was so sad. I didn't send it back because I was in a large group and didn't want to deal with it all. I'm not sure if the message never got to the kitchen, or if they just don't know how to cook a burger rare. Unfortunately we had waited about 45 minutes for a table (typical) so I just ate the overcooked burger. I'm sure I will be back, and hopefully my experience will be better the next time and I can update my review but for now, I can't justify anything more than 2 stars.

Great place to unwind! Visited three times already and tried something different each time. All were fantastic! Cold beer in cold glasses.

Ample portions, great taste. We went during lunch so trying the alcohol will have to wait till a later date. If you are looking for a great burger when you are in town, this is the place. Best in a good radius.

Love the Savelle. Awesome burgers! I just can't figure out what they do to the buns to make them so great.

Have yet to have a poor service experience at this location.

Enjoy! :)

Great back patio good for groups and just "taking it easy" dining. Plenty of burger choices, salad choices and looks like drink choices. I like the Crane Sister's salad for the combination of flavors. They also have really good chicken fingers. Bring your appetite because the portions are plentiful.

  • Brandon H.

Mugshots has the best burgers in town. My favorite is the Peanut Butter burger...with jelly. Ok, it sounds gross...but it's life changing. Well, maybe not that that dramatic, but it's really good. I would eat here 7 days a week.

    (5)
  • MJ S.

Their buns are sooooo good! They're slightly sweet and very soft and fresh. I always get the Pat-O burger, & it's even good to go!

  • Brad H.

I love mugshots and will definitely return and would recommend. I got the peanut butter burger with grape jelly which was great. I ordered sweet potato fries but they brought me regular, though the waitress was really quick in exchanging them out. Great place for food and fun!

  • Jesse G.

Best burgers in Bhm. This time it's the turkey burger & sweet potato fries. Outside patio is great with heaters to take the chill off. Staff is great & friendly. Might have to try the peanut butter burger when I have more time.

Mugshots has some of the most unique burgers I've seen. I'm not usually this adventurous, but I ordered the pizza burger and loved it. It's served on a sourdough bun and the beer battered fries are addicting. Next time I might try the PB&J burger...

So . . . . unfortunately so many people had told me that this was the BEST burger in Birmingham and that I would be blown away.

WOW!! this place was GREAT!! tried the MacDonald named after one of the owners.

Visiting my dad in Hoover, AL and searched for the best burger around. This was suggested, and they were right! So delicious! Their comeback burger is where it's at! Definitely my favorite burger place here!
