This was written after eating at the McFarland location. I've read the reviews. I was reluctant to eat here as well, in a mall, looked like white guy barbecue. Especially since I've been getting my cue on while in town at Archibald and Woodrows as well as Dreamland. Funny thing is the Dickey family is white. Go figure. I really don't care about sides just meat, but tried coleslaw and Mac and cheese (just OK). Brisket had nice bark, a bit dry but really good flavor and only place in town so far to find brisket. Polish sausage tasty, meaty with good snap. Could have had more spicing but really good. Ribs were great. Better than Dreamland. I know, I'm going to get some crap over that statement. They have a great flavor, distinctive really. Really meaty, great pork taste and more easily released from the bone. Not soft, but just that they've gone low and slow long enough that there's none of that pulling on the meat with your teeth you get at some other places. Also the fat has been fully rendered so that you don't end up fighting through it or getting a big mouthful of it. It's either been absorbed into the meat or left on the floor of the smoker. Where it should be. Try these ribs. Addictive. And you can buy any meats by the pound. So get a quarter pound of a few and smorgasbord your outing.

The food just okay. I had the pulled pork sandwich Mac and cheese and baked beans. The pork tasted and smelled a little burnt. The Mac and beans are nothing to brag on. Eat it if you're hungry. You do get free ice cream but it's only vanilla. I'm a chocolate lover. The guys working the counter are very nice and friendly. Good service.

It would seem that I am in the minority when it comes to my opinion of Dickey's Barbecue Pit. Now folks, I am not a professional food critic. I am not even a professional writer. To be honest, I am a college kid who likes good food and enjoys writing about good food. I especially like good barbecue. Well, today I am writing about bad food. Particularly, BAD barbecue. I don't plan to rant on and on about how Dickey's was a completely horrible experience because it wasn't. The staff was very polite and the food looked appetizing. I ordered a 3 meat plate (ribs, smoked chicken, and pulled pork) with 2 sides (baked beans and mac n' cheese) accompanied by a complementary buttered roll, pickles, and onions. Along with this, I ordered a side of fries and cole slaw, just to sample. So why does all of this delicious sounding BBQ, and fixings, deserve two stars? Because the meats... all three meats were extremely dry. The worst was the chicken. Thin slices of smoked chicken that just flaked away into drier little bits of smoked chicken. The sides were adequate at best. The mac n' cheese tasted like something out a bag and the beans were fine, nothing Mr. Bush couldn't match. The coleslaw was pretty good. Now, the fries (waffle, my favorite) were crisp and delicious. BUT! Dear people, hope is not lost. They have free ice cream. Probably a ruse to distract you from the less than decent meal you just ate. Please, do not waste your time or money here. Tuscaloosa, a Mecca of good barbecue has so much more to offer. Will this review have much power or sway over you guys? Maybe not...probably not. But I will say this: I will not be going back to Dickey's anytime soon.

Food here is just ok, nothing spectacular. Portion size to price ratio is terrible. Sides are not tasty, best thing they have to me is the different sauce choices. Service is below par and you will come out smelling like a smoke house.

Don't be put off by the fact this place is in a shopping center. It has a great meat selection and BBQ. It's definitely worth a visit.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this restaurants growth. With a 99.9 % satisfaction rate that's pretty great. Being the new kid on the block could be hard, but this community has embraced this locally owned and operated new kid :) We don't live in a perfect world but if you have any issue with anything they are great about making it right. Enjoy, and happy eating. Skip Baumhower

My favorite place for BBQ. Awesome food. The smokehouse salad is the best. The staff is always friendly. The music is great. Free ice cream and kids eat free on Sunday. I've ate in several times and used the online to go a couple of times. Never had a problem with my order. I can't recommend enough.

Fantastic place to eat good BBQ, even though it is a chain. I have tried just about everything and was more than satisfied.

I've tried dickeys twice, the first time my wife and I went there only a couple weeks after they opened. We placed our order and all she wanted was a couple of sides one was the fried okra. They never brought it out, after asking they said it would only be a few more minutes. Meanwhile they brought fried okra to the table behind us. When they finally came out I ask one of the girls and and she said will let me check on it and never came back. I went to the counter asked for the manager the manager says no problem we get right out to you they never brought it. The meal for the two of us, which I just had a sandwich and one side she had two sides which we never got one of them was over $15. The next time I went back was with my son. He and I both got a sandwich a side and a drink. He had a coupon for a free sandwich so I was thinking you know $8-$10 for both of us, that would be a good deal because frankly they don't give much meat on the sandwiches. When they came out we ate it was okay nothing to scream about. When I saw that it was almost $17 and that included the free sandwich I told my my to tell them. He's a good guy and didn't tell them just paid and went on. This is too much money for such a small amount of food, and the food is nothing to cheer about. I won't be back to dickies.

It's a taste of Texas in Alabama! Best brisket in town; cooked the way brisket is meant to be cooked. For sides, try the waffle fries or tanglers. You won't be disappointed!
