I always love eating here! The atmosphere is great, and the food is always spot on, hot and fast! I get the the La Vega, with extra white cheese. You can not go wrong with that! The place is clean and very nicely decorated. The Staff always smiles and checks on your party frequently, which is nice if you drink a lot. All in all, it is a great place to sample some Mexican fare, if you are in the area stop by, have a Margarita. :)

Pricey. Were better years ago when in smaller building. Decor overdone. Been here three times since they built the new place and it was the third strike. Shrimp a la diabla was bland and the shrimp were overcooked and tough. Two plain tacos had so much grease dripping off the meat it made the hard shells soft and left puddles on the plate...inedible. Service was slow and unenthusiastic. Won't be back.

Of the two popular Mexican places in town, this one came more highly recommended, so off we went. I would say we got about what we were hoping for, which was familiar atmosphere, good sized helpings of unremarkable Texmex, and plentiful chips with good salsa. For me, the decor made it, I felt like I was right back in California or Phoenix at some mid-priced Mexican place. A nice, open set-up, plenty of bustle at 7pm on a Saturday night (we waited a very reasonable 15 minutes), and good smells coming from the kitchen. Though it took a while to get napkins (and even longer to get flatware), the chips & salsa arrived almost immediately. The chips were the thick & crunchy kind, and tasty, and the salsa was very good, with a smidge of heat to it. Our waiter, Gabriel, was friendly and helpful. I'm avoiding white flour, and since flour tortillas seemed to be a mainstay, I asked about subbing corn tortillas, and Gabriel said, "Sure no problem." Then I made the mistake of ordering the Tacos Carbone, which listed "Soft, warm flour tortillas" with corn tortillas instead, somehow thinking they'd fry up the corn tortillas nice & crispy like we do at home. No dice. So I'm trying to eat a taco in a crumbling, slightly soggy corn tortilla, and it's not really working. I don't necessarily blame the kitchen for this - I really asked for a simple ingredient substitution - but hope sprang eternal that they'd figure out what I was really asking for. But since they didn't have any crispy tacos on the menu at all, the leap from "taco with steamed flour tortilla" to "hey, use the chimichanga fryer for the corn tortilla on this guy's tacos" might have been too far. Bottom line, I should have stuck with the variety platter of enchiladas, where soggy corn tortillas would have been perfect. Meanwhile, the Missus said her beef enchiladas were just OK. She thought they could have used cheese inside, which we were both surprised wasn't in the filling. The good news is, while we were waiting for the meal, we were brought another basket of chips FRESH and hot. What a treat. Worth the trip right there. So I'm torn on this one. The food was tasty in general (and, I should add, pretty inexpensive), nothing special, but after living in Arizona for so long, can I apply the same standard to a Mexican place in Alabama? I decided the answer was no, so despite feeling like we make better tacos at home, this review went from three stars to four based on making us feel like we were back in an average, completely fine, Texmex place back in Phoenix while still being firmly in Northern Alabama, and for serving us plenty of really good chips & salsa. You've heard of comfort food, we'll call this a "comfort venue".

I will give them somewhat of a break because it was a busy Saturday night but the hostess was clearly frustrated and taking it out on patrons and while the waitstaff was attentive the food took 45 minutes to arrive after ordering and was only fair.

I'm going to vote 3 for the food, 5 for the space. Considering the options in Scottsboro, this is a great place to eat. However, if you have had exposure to good, authentic Mexican food, this won't be your favorite place. The prices were very reasonable, the choices on the menu were pretty extensive. The interior design on this place was pretty darn impressive. There was a lot of attention to detail that went into this place to really give it a high quality feel. So back to the food. For me, it didn't have the wow factor. When you go into a place that looks as nice as this you expect that the food will parallel the decor. Instead I felt like the food I had was just average. Most of my meal was perfectly fine. Standard beans and rice, crispy flautas with big chunks of white meat chicken, but I can't get over how terrible the beef tacos were. It was tasteless ground beef in a grocery store taco shell. There are two key components for a really good crunchy taco: good meat and a fresh, crispy shell. How can you fail miserably at both!? Even Taco Bell does it better, and that's sad =( I would come back here to try more things, and I will probably enjoy them, I just won't be getting the beef tacos any time soon!

Great Mexican food in Scottsboro. Its your average Mexican fare on the menu, but the food is really good. I have eaten here more than any other restaurant in Scottsboro. The new location is really nice and can handle large groups really well. The food is reasonably priced and the staff is friendly.

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Scottsboro. Carnitas is a wonderful dish. The service is good and your food is delivered in a timely manner and always hot.

The carnitas are amazing. I love that they are deep fried to give them crisp outter coating but are nice and tender inside. They are horrible with groups though. My extended family has tried to get tables several times and waited FOREVER. I've tried calling ahead and they hung up twice on me when I said 'party of 15'. But...the carnitas....

Great atmosphere!! Get chicken or steak, ground beef is no seasoned. But the rest was great and delicious. They have a wonderful Long Island iced tea!!

Hubby and I stopped in here after a visit to Unclaimed Baggage on a recent Saturday afternoon. We were very pleased in all aspects of our dining experience. The atmosphere was very nice, facilities clean, the decor/building much more upscale than the usual Mexican restaurant and the service was great. I ordered the Burrito con Papas (beef, chorizo and potato) and it superseded my expectation. It was huge, delicious and well presented. The chips and salsa were not my favorite, but they were very good. I have visited the Cullman location and look forward to visiting the Madison location when it opens in September of this year. It is a family owned franchise, with each restaurant run by different family members. There are a lot of similarities and a few differences between the locations I have visited. I would return to either restaurant any time I found myself in these towns.

Ordered Tacos Al Carbon (grilled steak in flour tortillas), and it came with rice and beans. It was okay, nothing special. All of these "American" Mexican restaurants taste the same to me. The inside of the restaurant is really cool.

Recommended by a clerk at Unclaimed Baggage, we found it easily. Pretty long wIt,but worth it. Gail's shrimp enchiladas were prefect, lots of shrimp and half an avocado on top. The pollo caliente was an enormous plate, tender and delicious. Busy on Saturday night! But service was good and the place is very nicely decorated .

On the way back to Huntsville from Chattanooga, we discovered this restaurant open after we realized that the nearby Italian restaurant was closed. The first impression wasn't good because there weren't many cars, but it got better. When we were seated, the first problem involved the menus. They weigh about 3-4 pounds each and have blobs of salsa all over it. The menu is also confusing. Some of the other menu items are reworded in a different one. Their bathrooms and tables are clean. The food was great. They even have all-day specials, which make the value even better. I don't know what one of the previous reviewers was thinking, but it's not "pricey." It is the average price of Mexican restaurants. The portion sizes are large; no one in my family could finish what was given to them, but at least we weren't walking away hungry. The best part was the friendliness of the staff. They were very nice and polite. They made sure we were satisfied with everything before we left. I will definitely come back on future trips and go to the new one in Hampton Cove (Huntsville).

I've been eating at BV since it opened many, many years ago. The staff is always great. Start off with the cheese dip- its great. I love the poblanos since I am not a big meat eater. They're filled with cheese and onions and the poblanos pack some heat. Love being able to sit outside on a warm evening with a cold draft beer while munching on some chips and dip.

My Buenavista, how you've grown! It's always nice to see good businesses thrive and expand, and this is exactly what has happened with BV. Originally starting out many years ago as a strip mall restaurant, they now have their own gorgeous building and yet have not forgotten how to serve some of the best food in town. Having eaten here many times, I can say that most of the time, the service is fast, clean and polite. The atmosphere is nice and spacious, and they offer outside dining as well. If you are in the area and in the mood for Mexican food, I couldn't recommend a better place!

I'm revising my review- I used to stop here very time I was in town However- in the last year this place has changed. The last 3 times I ate here ( that's right I am a Yankees fan and think everyone deserves 3 chances at Bat ) the service was mediocre at best . The waitstaff did not speak english well enough to take my order correctly. I even spoke with the manager and told him that if the service didn't improve - we wouldn't return. We ate there 2 more times-- same issue - poor communication. I'm sad about it because I really loved this place- but I won't go back. Better than MANY Mexican restaurants I've eaten in, in Manhattan - this place has wonderful food -- and excellent service - and it is very inexpensive - I don't know how they do it - very accommodating. If you are near by -- stop in for dinner, it is well worth it -- I will recommend this place to anyone I know near by.

Beautiful dining room, great service, very good food but slooowww. Far better than most gringo mex places I've tried around the country. We went in for a late lunch and were promptly seated and greeted by our server. There were maybe 8 tables in use. It took about 35 minutes just to get tacos and enchiladas which was much longer than expected.

The food was amazing. We sat down and ordered our drinks. It took us a while to figure out what we wanted due to the huge selection on the menu. Once we ordered it was about 40 minutes before our food arrived. Our waitress was quite rude and very sparse. When she refilled our drinks she brought another cup over and dumped it into my cup causing spillage that turned into a mess. Why she didn't just swap the cups or leave the fresh one is beyond me. I think I might try going back again but would definitely make sure we have a different waitress.

I can now know why there is such a long line and wait for a table. Great Mexican food....no ground "whatever", real beef steak strips in Burritos. Enjoyed atmosphere and the food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
