123 never disappoints. I took my mom there for her birthday last night and everything was delicious! It's got a great ambiance, and excellent service. There isn't a whole lot in the way of beer selection (usually two rotating taps), but they some fantastic wines and a full bar. We started with the black eyed pea hummus, which is an excellent starter for 2 or 3 people. It's reasonably priced and a great southern spin on traditional hummus. For our entrees, I ordered the special -- bacon wrapped Georgia quail over a bed of creamy grits with grilled asparagus and a balsamic reduction -- which was very good. The quail was a touch salty with the bacon, but delicious nonetheless. My mom ordered our standby dish -- the barbeque bourbon salmon. I'm not exaggerating when I say this is the best salmon I've ever had. It's worth a trip in itself. It's served over creamy grits with sautéed spinach and it is unbelievably good. Do yourself a favor and give Cafe 123 a try. Best fine dining restaurant in the Auburn/Opelika are by my count.

My rating still stands. This time, the parents and the boyfriend came along. Brown Sugar Rubbed Rib Eye - Asked for it medium, and came out more medium rare. Nonetheless, it was still juicy. Although the price tag reads $26, you're getting a slab of meat that's as big as your brain. Totally worth it. Barbeque Bourbon Salmon - My favorite dish. The salmon was not as soft as other salmon I have had but the grits added wonderful flavor to mix in with the fish. The sauteed spinach is slightly more salty, which is what I prefer. Cafe Pasta Alfredo with Sauteed Gulf White Shrimp - The shrimp was large and succulent. Just like the last time, the amount of alfredo sauce was just right. Enough for flavor and it didn't create a pool at the bottom of the bowl. This was plenty for 4 people. It was a splurge that we definitely enjoyed for our last night in Auburn.

I finally went here tonight. after reading the reviews I knew roughly what to expect. First the food. I had sea scallops with mushroom and asparagus and it was absolutely excellent. The asparagus was phenomenal. For dessert I had the mousse and it was also fantastic. Now the rest. We had no reservation but arrived at ~ 6pm and we were the *only people there. We were told without a reservation they could seat us at a very small table at the front next to the bartenders station. When we left 45 minutes later the place was no longer empty but of the 16ish tables in the front room there were now 5 occupied. We also saw a large party get taken into the back dining area. Neither of us are particularly large but the table was small enough that it was less than comfortable. There was no place to put coat or hat and nobody offered to put them someplace so my hat rested on my knee and my coat sat on the floor. Essentially we felt we were relegated to the kiddie table ... Which I probably wouldn't care about too much if it the prices weren't so high. If I'm paying $28 for a plate with 8 sea scallops and 4 stalks of asparagus, $15 for 1/2 an avocado with crab appetizer (very good btw) I really don't want to be treated like a second class customer. $97 (before tip) for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 desserts, 1 glass of house wine. As I said, the food IS excellent but I'm extremely disappointed in the service considering the price. I'm sure if we had reservations it would have been different but considering that the restaurant wasn't even close to 1/2 full by the time we left ... There are places just as good in La Grange that cost significantly less. Considering the service it's probably worth the drive.

Went for our grad's dinner, and this was one of the best meals I've had anywhere. We tried the quail, ribeye, chicken, and also the fresh catch. All four entrees were perfectly prepared and delightfully presented. We didn't have a reservation, and got lucky even getting in. Service was attentive without being obnoxious, and the pacing of our meal was perfect. The stuffed avocado appetizer was delicious with capers, crab and balsamic. The menu was just the right size, and the wine list was solid. The ambience was romantic, but the noise level was pretty high. Not a deterrent for us, but if you're looking for quiet this isn't your place. Downtown Opelika is really adorable, and this was a great dinner.

Ever find yourself in the Auburn area with a craving or occasion that calls for a little more than the average college town restaurant? want to impress a date the night before a football game and not wait for an hour at the finer dining spots in Auburn proper? Make the short drive to Opelika to Café 123 and you will not be disappointed. The staff was very friendly and they seamlessly accommodated our large party. Décor feels upscale even though the venue loos to have been a soda shop or creamery in a previous life. they made good craft cocktails and martinis and the food was delicious. fish, pasta, beef, pork...all fresh and flavorful. And, they take reservations! I cant think of a better place to take a large celebration or an intimate date in the Auburn Opelika area(Well, besides Jordan-Hare Stadium).

Best restaurant of the area. Atmosphere, service, and food was spectacular. The Caesar salad was made at the table and as so fresh as was the wedge salad. The food was scrumptious. Our party had quail, salmon, swordfish, and pecan crusted chicken. All were cooked to perfection and smelled and looked so appetizing. Pricy but expected with the fantastic entree's. We could hear each other talk and the service was impeccable. Highly recommend.

Visiting Opelika? Cafe One Twenty Three is an excellent choice for dinner. I ordered an 8oz filet served with lump crab meat which was delicious. The bread pudding for dessert blew my mind. The shrimp and grits is phenomenal!

I grew up in the Big O and never expected downtown to ever have a restaurant as interesting and good as 123. My hat is off to the owner, chef and our server, RC. Well done, very well done. Fresh, obviously attentively prepared and creative. I generally avoid mentioning specifics, but please try the black eye pea humus. Thanks, RC. You helped make a very pleasurable evening for us - we will be back. Check out the artwork - not only is it good, it helps to create the interesting ambiance.

Upscale but not prohibitively fancy southern fine dining. Dimly lit, romantic interior with professional service. Prices are high, but generally you get what you pay for: fresh ingredients, plenty of flavor, and quality meats. Our table ordered the filet, the catch of the day, and the ribeye and really enjoyed each one. The filet had a unique flavor with the horseradish sauce, and the brown sugar rub on the ribeye really enhanced the flavor. If you have a special occasion or don't mind spending quite a bit for fine dining, this place fits.

The Filet Napoleon is the most amazing thing I've ever tasted. Their tableside Caesar salads are entertaining and delicious. Small, quaint restaurant with good service.

Visiting our daughter at Auburn, Cafe 123 is listed as one of the "must eats" of the area. It's located in historic downtown Opelika, and well worth the drive from Auburn. The Crab and Avocado appetizer was delicious. I had the fresh fish special, also exquisite. Service was excellent and attentive, and the prices were quite reasonable. Of the places we have tried, easily the best in the greater Auburn-Opelika community.

On the road enroute to Atlanta and we searched Yelp for somewhere other than the average franchise and found Cafe 123. WOW! From the moment we entered, we were greeted with a warm smile, totally accepting of our travelling attire in what some may have assumed was a pretentious spot...friendly service, excellent food....we had an appetizer, wine, two entrees and dessert to go (amaretto bread pudding, yum) and our bill was under $90 - we have paid twice that for food half as good. (Don't get any price change ideas, we plan to pass through again). Stop in Yelpers, even if you are just passing through!

Upon entry, you'll see an amazingly well setup bar on your left and seating abounds. The cocktails were good, nothing too fancy and the food was more than adequately good, less than great. The menu changes throughout the year, I just wasn't excited by the offerings that were listed. The wait staff were attentive and quick. I would recommend that you go, I'll go back myself, I'm just not in a hurry to do so.

Cafe 123 is a big city restaurant in a small town. Menu ingredients are always extremely fresh and full of flavor. Wait Service is professional and consistent. The fish specials add pizazz to an already delightful menu. My wife and I have frequented the restaurant since it opened and have never had a bad experience. It is my favorite local restaurant and ranks in my top five in the country.

This is my absolute favorite restaurant in the Auburn/Opelika area. I've only been living in the area for 10 months, and I'm mostly broke, but I've been to this pretty expensive restaurant four times for special occasions (anniversary, job promotion, birthday, etc.). It was recommended to me by a student because of their shrimp and grits dish, but I've actually never tried it. One downside to Cafe 123 is that it is NOT vegetarian friendly. I call myself vegetarian, but I'm actually pescetarian, which means I eat fish and seafood. The tuna dish at this restaurant is to die for, and they often have great fish specials to tell you about as well. I've had some really fantastic experiences at Cafe 123, and then some "just" good ones. Once (in the fantastic category) our waiter brought us a palette cleanser after each course, but I wonder if he just did it to appease us because there was some unseen disaster going on in the kitchen that delayed our food. If so, we didn't notice. That was the only time a palette cleanser was part of our meal there, however. I always make a reservation to eat here, but it's rarely been necessary. I think on the weekend it's probably a good idea. The place has a nice ambiance but might be shade too dark for my taste. When you call the # to make a reservation, you will often times be directed to a voicemail to leave your reservation information. However, you will ALWAYS get a call back, and I suspect it is the owner of the restaurant who makes the calls himself. Overall, I get the sense that a lot of thought and care goes into the management of this restaurant. Thumbs up!

I have been here about four times "by accident" -- it was never planned. All times we ended up at Cafe 123 after a downtown Opelika events. We had various cocktails and appetizers. The fried green tomatoes & shrimp and grits are always worth a trip back to Cafe 123. The wine list is nice and they make a lovely chocolate martini. Next time we go I want to try the table-side Caesar salad.
