Had a delicious pressed brisket sandwich. It was on ciabatta bread with sauce cheese peppers and mushrooms and was awesome. Watching them scramble around a countertop Quiznos toaster oven is almost as amusing as the food is the quality food that comes out of it is surprising. Even my hand cut Quizinated "fries" were crispy, good, and inadvertently low fat.

Great food! Stopped in during a road trip to pensacola during lunch time. It was busy and barely got a table. We had the classic bayou and Louis Armstrong. Both were good and the soup was excellent. Would recommend! Was a great pit stop. Location was safe and in a convenient location.

This place is incredible! Food is beyond good. Don't leave without getting the banana pudding

Excellent place. We were warmly greeted and offered a sample of gumbo and ice tea when we walked in the door. I would highly recommend both. Also, the chicken salad is the best I've had in quite some time. Customer service was top notch as well.

I'm a engineer at heart, and I like being presented with constraints, as it causes you to rely on creative solutions to negate those constraints. For example, how would you take the equipment of a hollowed-out Quiznos and make it into a full service restaurant? In the case of Wishbone Cafe, their answer was surprisingly creative, though not without some shortcuts. I'm sure the sandwiches are all well and good (and in the case of the free sample of collard green soup we were provided, definitely good), but we came for dinner, and we wanted something more substantial. I went for the Louis Armstrong, and the other two people with me each ordered something different. The dish shouldn't really work - shrimp, scallops, cream sauce, and feta cheese? - but I was impressed, most especially at the freshness of the seafood, though my scallops were itsie-bitsie, each about the size of an M&M. Served over Cajun rice, it was unexpectedly good. Working in a kitchen like this has its drawbacks, such as having to send each dish through the Quiznos oven, sometimes multiple times. Ingredients are frequently reused, too, most obviously in the cream sauce, which managed to find its way onto all three of our dishes. A lot of the dinner entrees seem to follow the same shrimp-cream-starch template, though if you aren't necessarily looking for a lot of variety (or just like the sauce), it's not really an issue. The meal ended with a bowl of 'nana pudding, though Wishbone's version differed from most in not really being a pudding at all. Instead, it was banana slices and Nilla wafers tossed in a thick, fresh whipped cream that was lighter than its traditional counterpart and made it more about the banana. Certainly something to try. Wishbone Cafe's slight Cajun bent and ingenuity make for some interesting eating in a small space, and reminds us that there are good eats to be found all over this city.

Awesome customer service. Collard green soup is delicious and like everyone else has said, bayou classic is a must-order. Also try their sweet iced tea. Feels like family when you're there. This place was a great lunch stop driving from Atlanta to New Orleans.

Everything about this place is outstanding. Service is always great and the staff tries hard to remember repeat customers.I have tried most of the food options, superb.

Great food, don't be turned off by the Decor. Try the bayou special!

This little cajun restaurant is a welcome surprise to those that yearn for home-cooked flavors! The bayou classic is a definite favorite: tasty, well cooked crab cakes, flavorful shrimp and cajun rice, all covered with their signature cream sauce. The Jeffrey Darden (J.D.) is a welcome option for those in the mood for chicken, rice and hashbrown casserole. I second Melissa T's comments; don't underestimate the restaurant's size and their prices: this family-owned restaurant strives to welcome you in, and treats each customer with first-class service and hospitality. You will leave with a smile on your face!

I recently spent a couple of months in Montgomery, and I was living in a hotel so I ate out A LOT! I often found myself saying things like "this is pretty good, for Alabama," and "boy, I had low expectations, but this place exceeded them!" (Honestly though, Montgomery has above average dining options, especially for an area that size.) Then I found Wishbone Cafe. Holy smokes this place is awesome! It doesn't look like much, but it doesn't look like a whole in the wall either. It seemingly has no character... until you try the food! I believe this place is an old Quizno's that has been left largely intact. In a McGyver-esgue fashion they re-use everything... but at a level even the most skilled sub-monger could imagine! This place is really, really, really good! I HIGHLY recommend the Louis Armstrong, Bayou Classic, and that huge Burger (I think it's called Boardroom?). This ended up being my number one spot, and I would go back to the Gump just for this place!

This place is AMAZING. The food is ridiculously good! You MUST go here. Be sure to order the house tea!

Let me first say if you want food cooked with an old Quiznos cooker this is the place to go. All the food they serve is put through an old Quiznos cooker. The food is good. The wings are baked, fries are baked. So if you like fries and wings that aren't crunchy this is the place.

Awesome seafood! It's a cafe, but it has nice seats, and you can sit down and eat. I recommend whatever is red on the menu cuz they are specials. The cook is very friendly, but the waitress didn't seem to understand what I was asking for. I told the waitress that I ordered 7 wings but only got 6. Then she brought my wings back to the kitchen and had it cooked again until it turned black... which was really funny.

Excellent meal! We stopped here because of other reviews and if anything they didn't do it justice, simply put outstanding. The Cuban sandwich was fully loaded with a sweet & savory sauce that was wonderful and the Cubana roll was perfect. The shrimp poorboy was not traditional but very tasty with a excellent hand cut seasoned fries. The Crawfish Julie was nice and spicy with an interesting cheese sauce that will be hard not to have again when we return. The Cajun Truffles were perhaps the best stuffed mushrooms we'd every tasted. So if you're in the area a visit is a must!

You're here for the food, not the decor or ambiance.. You're also not eating here if you're on a diet. Fantastic eats at good prices with super-friendly staff. Wings are top-notch: falling off the bone, not fried, with excellent choices of sauce flavorings; we recommend the Honey BBQ. The brisket is delicious, with slightly crispy pork on a ciabatta bun, topped in melted cheese and peppers put together just right so the whole flavor experience is harmonious and satisfying. This also comes with an amazing side of red beans and rice that's more like a risotto: creamy and rich, it contains sausage and spices and it's a good thing this comes in a small dish because more than that would send you to the hospital with a coronary. Apparently you'll have better luck getting what you want if you visit at lunchtime than at dinner. When we went for dinner, it took me three tries to order something since my first two choices were sold out. They were also out of the homemade 'nana pudding dessert, which we were told was "seriously the best thing you have ever put in your mouth." I ended up with the shrimp po'boy and it was delicious, and the homemade fries were also great. Don't miss the homemade sweet tea - it has a special ingredient that really makes it unique. I'm not generally a fan of sweet tea but this was very appealing. Delicious! The service was amazingly friendly and the cook even came out to chat with us a bit and make sure we liked everything. We were definitely impressed. If you're looking for a uniquely southern soul/cajun experience, Wishbone is not to be missed.

This place is a gem! Wide menu selection. I ordered a 1/2 order on blackened shrimp. Received two nice size skewers (Most places would call this a whole order) and a plate of seasoned fries. I will be back. The wait staff was as helpful has could be. This place is stuck in a strip mall between Publix and Jim Massey's, but don't let the unassuming location fool you. This place has some good food!

I must say.... I'm not from this area so searching for great food and friendly guest service always feels like a task when you aren't familiar with a region. I came here off the recommendation from a friend and was blown away. I walked in the door and was immediately handed a sample of their soup and a iced tea. Talk about service! Now the food. Everything I had was astounding! Fresh, savory, tons of flavor! It definitely made my day. The atmosphere is cute and simple. Just reminds you, it's the basic and little things that really make people happy. Bravo Wishbone! I'm one happy girl!

You'd never know it from the outside, but this is one yummy restaurant! Check out the stuffed mushrooms. You won't be disappointed!

Wishes do come true!! This place is AMAZING! Tucked away in a strip mall is a true gem of Cajun food. I tried the Bayou Classic which was out of this world delicious - a bed of cajun rice piled with crabcakes and shrimp, covered in white sauce and served with cajun toast (toast buttered and sprinkled with special seasoning). You need to try this place! The Wishbone tea was just sweet enough with a hint of pineapple juice and lemon.

Awesome blossom Cajun place to hit up Not a huge place, about 10 tables that mostly seat up to 4 and a couple tables outside...so you'd think this was a fast food joint or something, but when you walk in they servers at the counter greet you with a smile and the chalkboard menu is actually a collage of inspirational quotes, which I thought was pretty cool. You can call your order for pickup too, which quite a few ppl did. Ordered the bayou classic and the soup of the day, which was seafood...guess I was in a seafood mood...just meant more food for me hehehe. The bowl of soup was pretty full...right to the brim, and piping hot. Had to wait a minute or 3 for it to cool down...but that first bite...sent warm fuzzies straight down my gullet into that belly o mine. Really hearty and good, and almost filled me up before I got my entree! The entree was very good; rice topped with shrimp crab cakes spinach and Cajun dressing....topped with Cajun seasoned white bread. I had to pack up some of it Cuz it was just too much for me. But it was a very good meal; 5 layer Cajun dish and soup for $18 plus tax and tip ain't too shabby...not shabby at all. Strip mall parking, so shouldn't be an issue...not too familiar with the area for lunch not sure if it gets crazy crowded or not. I came in around 630 and the place wasn't too packed, but after I ordered a few more parties came in so I guess this is a dinner spot. Staff - very friendly and nice. Gave me a cup of sweey tea as I was waiting for my meal which was awesome.

Food was very good. I had a delicious crawfish louis and stuffed mushrooms. Mushrooms were good but didn't have hardly any crab as advertised, but still good. Faults were app came out the same time as my meal which is a huge no no to me. They literally carried them together. It is an old Quiznos building and cooking equip so the atmosphere was a little confusing considering they were doing upscale food and pricing. And the portions were small. I didn't leave hungry but didn't leave satisfied either. And thats with an app and an entree to myself. And Im not that big. Food is good again though to re-iterate.

Absolutely delicious. Had the grilled chicken sandwich and it was amazing. Can't wait to go back and have some of the Louisiana specialties! The tea is to die for!

This is a hidden restaurant that you almost need to know is there - or you'll probably overlook it. Food is excellent and creative. The service was great also - my wife and I both liked that they bring you a complimentary sample of their tea and their soup before you even have a chance to look over the menu. The sauces they put on their food really makes the traditional Cajun food come alive with extra flavor. My wife is not that big on Cajun food, but she loved everything we ordered here. I definitely recommend this place.

This place is great! I don't even know where to start. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, the food was great and price not too expensive and well worth it. I come to Montgomery for training and make sure I always make a trip here. You won't regret it.

We were visiting in Montgomery and found the Wishbone on Yelp and we were pleasantly surprised. The food and staff were amazing. Had the Bayou Classic and it was equal to if not better than any 4 star resturant could have been. They served a sample of their sweet tea and a bowl of black eye pea soup that was delicious. We also had the appetizer with riblets, wings and the best chicken salad I have ever tasted. Don't pass up on the Wishbone.

Hidden gem of a restaurant. We followed the great reviews here on our way back to Atlanta from our beach vacation. We were not disappointed.... the Bayou Classic is out of this world! Amazing service and you'd be doing yourself a disservice to pass by this great treat!

Hidden Gem Wishbone Cafe is certainly one of my favorite places to eat in town. I have yet to be disappointed with any of the food choices I have made there. Service is exceptional as well. Even though it's just a little cafe in a strip mall, my wife and I have gotten our anniversary dinner before. The food is prepared just as well (if not better) than any gourmet restaurant in town. To that end, my only complaint is that they don't expand to a larger location. If you live in Montgomery, or if your just passing through or visiting, check this place out. Sandwiches, seafood, wings -- you can't miss. Five stars.

Great find in Montgomery, in a strip mall no less. Don't let the location next to the Publix fool you. The food was beautiful and delicious. I got the bayou classic - dirty rice with 2 crab cakes, spinach, spicy shrimp and a creamy sauce. Not sure what the other reviewer was saying about fake crab & salmon in the crab cakes. Mine were legit - small but very good. A great dish for only $13. I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in town.

DO NOT come to Montgomery and skip this heavenly place! Both your stomach and heart will thank you! It has soul, down to earth ambiance, and most importantly, GREAT FOOD! What should cost hundreds of dollars only costs $20. This place prepares food with serious attitude! Blues in the background, special sweet tea in the cup, special soups, and this is before the carefully crafted dishes arrive at the table! Dishes named after uniquely Southern people and places. Each possessing the deep murky southern personalities the region is known. The toxically sweet tea makes the time slow as each bite of the food gently wafts you off into a land of bliss. All ill say is save room for dessert! They have you covered!

This place is a "Must Stop" every time I'm in the area! The staff is great and friendly! The food is wonderful. The Fruit Tea is bought by the gallon by many customers. The Soup of the Day is often gone before lunch hour! If you can get it....GET IT!

We were road tripping from Pensacola to Atlanta and decided to stop for a bite to eat in Montgomery. Yelp helped us find the wishbone cafe and boy are we glad it did! This place has the BEST food! We got the bayou classic and like everyone says, it was phenomenal! The real gem, though, was the smoker. The meat tasted like it had been sent to heaven to be cooked and Jesus himself taste tested it to make sure it was perfect before sending it back to us tree eat. Then, to finish it off, we had some key lime pie. If I was a lime, I would want to be in this pie. Oh my goodness it was the BEST! Needless to say, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone. Even if I was allergic to shellfish, the bayou classic would be worth a trip to the emergency room.

I think I just found my favorite place in Montgomery. Food was crazy good. Service was amazing. I got the bayou classic and wiped my plate clean with the toast. My wife got the salmon and absolutely loved it. The collard green soup was of the hook. Hell, even their tea is something different but amazing. Could be the friendliest service I have ever experienced. I will be going back. Probably at least once a week... Maybe more.

Wishbone Cafe was excellent. We were driving from south Georgia to Oxford, MS and looked up places to eat for lunch. Service was fabulous, homemade tea was excellent and the food was top-notch! I wish this place was closer to my hometown.

After positively ranting about not finding a good Cuban sandwich around town (Yeah, I know - sucks to be me), I just happened to gleam an online menu from here - and lo and behold, what do I see? Cuban sandwich! Of course I had to give it a try! During the lunchtime hours, the place was a little busy for a Monday, but not overly so. People were nice and friendly, and when explaining that I wanted to make a to-go order, I was directed to a table and told to stand-by. Sure, no problem. Apparently, the server didn't get the memo because she handed me a small plastic cup of lemonade and a free sample of their collard green soup. Okay, not a problem. I merely explained it again that I wanted to order to-go and she was fine with it, ringing up my order a few seconds later. Once I finally did get my order, I was given the check and proceeded to make my way to the counter to pay for it. I'm not sure -what-the-major-deal was, but apparently the cashier was more interested in the conversation to his right than dealing with my funds and handing the food over. After paying, I reached across the counter and grabbed my food to exit the place. Once I got home to sample the sandwich, quite honestly, it wasn't what I was hoping for. It was good for what it is, but authenticity wasn't appealing on this one. Despite the disappointment, I'll be back to try some of their other offerings and see how they stack up. Can't knock a place down for one meal - wouldn't be fair, right? We'll see!

I don't always order crab cakes but when I do, I shouldn't have to wonder what they are comprised of. I shouldn't have to ask. If it's not crab the menu should indicate that. What if I had an allergy? What If I don't like the ingredients? It's not cool to pass off something that isn't as something that is. I wanted to like this place so badly, SO BADLY. Boyfriend spotted it on a trip to Publix several months ago and looked up reviews while we waited to be checked out. The accolades blew me away. Why was I just hearing about it 7 months into living in the Gump?! I had to go. On Boyfriend's most recent trip to visit me, we decided that a trip to Wishbone was a must and drove over at about 7:30 on a Friday night. The first thing that struck me about the restaurant was the fact that it was SMOKEY. I don't know if their ventilator wasn't working but I was really worried about smelling like fried food for the rest of the night. Still, I let it go. That simply meant the food was freshly prepared and not microwaved. I also noticed that we had just missed the dinner rush because the majority of the tables hadn't been bussed. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing, as we could take a look to see what the food looked like. The rice looked fluffy, the breads looked season, and the fish looked flaky. I was excited. We found the only clean table in the joint, sat, and waited to be given menus. Then we waited, and waited, and waited some more. I'm not sure if the place was overstaffed but there should be someone taking care of seated customers in addition to having someone manning the cash register. There weren't even a lot of people being checked out! Finally Boyfriend got up and asked if he could place his order from the counter. The server told him, albeit politely, that he'd bring us menus in a bit. Dude finally made it over with the menus after about 20 minutes of waiting. At that point we knew what we wanted anyway due to the "rave" reviews and the menu board. We decided on the Jamaican Jerk wings as an appetizer and two Bayou Classics. The food came out quickly. The wings were very well-seasoned and good but super small-- a rip off for $7.99. They should come with fries or veggies for such an exorbitant price. Our Bayou Classics came out shortly after. Don't get me wrong: they looked great! The plating and presentation was very nice. However, they were not worth the $13 we paid for them. The flavor was just so-so (very "faux" Cajun) and it only came with three little shrimp and the smallest dollop of spinach. The worst part was the "crab" cake. How dare they market something as a crab cake that is primarily composed of salmon! The crab cake was essentially a hunk of canned salmon, fake crab, bread crumbs and seasoning, mixed together and formed into a patty. Then, to make matters worse, they put real crab on the outside portion of the cake-- like they're fooling someone! Despicable. Now, I have considered many reasons this crab atrocity happened but under no circumstances was it excusable. Here's my theory-- Problem: They ran out of crab. Solution: Get the ingredients you need: Publix is right next door, Wal-mart is down the street, Costco is around the corner OR be honest and tell me so I don't order a fake crab cake! I don't want to believe this place is as disappointing as it was but there really is no excuse for the BS. Maybe it's under new ownership, maybe the other reviewers have never had real crab, maybe the other reviewers actually got real crab while Boyfriend and I were unlucky. I don't know. All I know is with the fake crab cake, the bad service, the poor value, and the smoky environment, they won't be getting any more of my hard earned money.
