My friend and I ventured out to Island Delight after hearing positive "buzz" about the authenticity of the food. We were not disappointed! I had the curry goat and my friend had the jerk chicken both were excellent. The jerk chicken was very tender and the goat was delicious. There are limited sides available - corn on the cob, cabbage, festival (a type of fried muffin) and fried plantains. The festival was somewhat dry but the plantains were excellent and I would characterize them as more stewed than fried. Rice is served with every dish and wasn't exceptional. The decor is "post apocalyptic Rastafarian". There are a variety of native plastique plants and the obligatory Bob Marley poster, which is actually required by statute in order to serve Caribbean food. The coin laundry next door, an inadequate AC system and a typical Alabama Summer day combine to create a climate inside the restaurant that I think closely mimics a typical sultry day in the islands. Kudos for enhancing the experience. The food is worth the trip and the ambience will give you something to talk about.

I've been at Maxwell for 7 weeks and I just NOW made my way here! I bet you're asking yourself "Jamaican food in Montgomery Alabama?!" Yes, I was asking myself that same question....how good could it possible be? Its gotta be ghetto! Well, it's true that most of the shops in the area look quite ghetto and you should probably avoid walking by yourself around this area at night, but once you walk in you feel like you're in a diner in the Caribbean. The decor is clean and simple with a bit of island flair. The food is kind of ala carte style so service is pretty quick. I ordered the curry goat with cabbage and had to try the festival since I've never had it before. Seriously, this food was legit! Apart from all the small goat bones which is kind of to be expected, the meat was tender and flavorful. The rice and beans mixed with the curry was spot on. Everything melded quite nicely and the festival bread topped it all off. As mentioned by some of the other reviews, the small portion is kind of small so I opted for the large and wasn't disappointed. The $8 price tag was also very reasonable. Bottom line: Legit Jamaican food for a decent price. I'll be back!

Jerk chicken was great along with rice and peas. I wanted to try Beef patties but didn't get a chance

A real hometown gem! This restaurant will beyond amaze you if you just look past the outside. Once you enter this restaurant you feel the love in the food. It's amazing. I had the jerk chicken, rice and peas, and the plaintains with a pink ting to drink. I was beyond pleased with this flavorful meal.

Hidden gem in Montgomery. Don't let the exterior fool you; great food. It's set up like a "meat & 3" with Jamaican food. Jerk chicken was perfect.

This place has decent food. The outside looks very run down. The inside is very plain. The restaurant would benefit from playing some caribbean music during prime lunch time...instead it's dead silent if you're the only one or two people in there. It has a "order at the counter" set-up and plastic trays and plastic silverware. Though I wouldn't call this a fast-food restaurant, it's a relatively quick order and eat type place. This is the only Caribbean restaurant in Montgomery that I'm aware of, so I appreciate that it exists, since I'm a "foodie" and enjoy a wide variety in my diet and restaurant options.

Kudos to Island Delight for not only finding an interesting take on the Meat & Three (two in this case, but still) in a city that has a lot of them, but to claim this is anything but authentic Caribbean cooking from a Caribbean family would be delusional. I had the oxtail with fried plantains and some mixed greens. I drank a weird ginger Caribbean soda and tried a scotch bonnet Caribbean hot sauce. The oxtail was fork tender and the fried plantains were in some prolate spheroid shape I'd never seen before. I know nothing about Caribbean food. Look, just try it, okay?

Located right outside the Airforce base next to a laundromat and a mechanics. ..this place is a little piece of Jamaica. The location is very unassuming but the minute u walk in ur hit with the smell of her seasoning... Lunch was crowded full of airforce members and the general public. The family owned staff is patient but fast. No fountain drinks. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The oxtail meat fell right off the bone. Located not far from the city center...this place is well with the visit!! I gave it 4 stars because they did not have plantains that day.

A friend of mine has me hooked on this place. I go for the Ox Tails and rice. Delish! Stick to your ribs comfort food at it's finest. It is definitely one of those places that are the "hole in the wall" but BEST TASTING places you'll visit. The plantains are good, sweet and fresh. Nice folks. Check it out.

OMG the food here was excellent! They give you good portions of food and it was hot when it came out. The establishment was clean and the pricing was reasonable. I would definitely go back

Wow, this restaurants continues to be outstanding. Really great food and totally authentic. The Jamaican oxtails with rice and peas ... delicious! I decided to take home an order of the Jamaican curried goat for dinner. Again, delicious! Love this place!

When I went in I expected greatness. It had high marks and there were 15 people waiting in line with a steady stream coming in behind them. I got the jerked chicken, rice and peas and plantains. The chicken was a bit dry and it wasn't very spicy. The rice and peas had been sitting because the rice stuck together in large starchy clumps. If you want a change of pace, its not bad but I wouldn't make a special trip. Maybe the curried goat or Oxtail are better. Ill have to try them when I come back through.

I don't know why it took me so long to get to this place! I'm a big fan now. I had the small jerk chicken lunch special, which was two pieces of chicken and two side items over rice. Delicious! And it was $6. They also have a selection of Caribbean drinks that are hard to find in the States (like Aloevine). Just what I was missing from this summer's Caribbean vacation. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Don't let the exterior fool you...it just makes the place even more authentic. Island Delight shares a building with a coin-operated laundrymat. Now, if they could just get some good reggae music playing in the place (it was nearly silent in there.) I'll definitely be back, and often.

Authentic as it comes, especially out here in Montgomery! Had the Jerk chicken and it was delicious. Comes with rice and 2 sides for $7 with a bottled water. The plate was considered small but it filled me up. Large was .50 more.

Beneath the green and yellow sign that reads "Island delight" is an entrance to a hidden jewel of Montgomery! Foods alternating between jerk chicken, curry goat, ox tails, red snapper, beef patties, and a few other popularized Caribbean foods you'll never spend more than $9 (excluding the red snapper). Hospitable is an understatement for the sincerely personable ladies who run the establishment. Deep smiles and full plates is what this place consistently provides. Hurry because the lines are long, but the food is well worth the wait!

I am an Indian and came to know about this place through one of my friends. Goat curry is awesome in this place. Though you may not like the location of this restaurant, I am sure you would like the food. I heard these guys are opening one more restaurant at downtown and I am waiting for it.

Despite being so close to the base it's a hidden gem of a restaurant for quick hour lunch. Location/convenience probably bumps it up from a 3.5 to a 4. Not too many tables but I haven't had a place finding a seat so far. The jerk chicken could use some more spice but worth a visit.

One of the guys in my office has come here for lunch at least once a month for years. As soon as I went the first time, I found out why. The food is great, and it's cheap, and it's pretty much the most convenient place to go from Maxwell. Both times I've been so far, the menu has been basically three things: goat curry, jerk chicken, and beef oxtails. I've had the first two and plan to try the oxtails the next time I go, though the bite I stole from my buddy's plate was pretty good. The goat was really tasty, bony (as goat tends to be) but very good. The jerk chicken was good, not as spicy as I thought it was going to be. Both times I've gotten the lunch plate and had sides of festival (fried bread) and plantains. The first time I had the festival, it was a little dry, but the second time it was excellent, must just have been an off day the first time. The plantains were interesting, I'd had them fried and crispy, these were done almost caramelized. Lunch plates were served with beans and rice, which I enjoyed. This does not pretend to be anything other than a good, cheap lunch place. The decor is minimal, from the front, the place looks even more unassuming than Corsino's down on Court Street. OK, I'll say it, it looks like a bit of a hole in the wall. But it's a great place for a tasty, cheap working day lunch.

Being from Miami I was excited to see a Caribbean Restaurant. I give it three stars.. Maybe I am spolied by the Miami Authentic Cuisine... But the Jerk chicken was not so bad.
