If you are an egg fanatic you have to stop by this place and get some breakfast. They have a lot to choose from on their menu and our waitress was very nice and cheerful. The restrooms were clean so that's always a good sign of an organized restaurant.

Egg and I need to work on their menu. The food is free of taste and flavor. Service is slow and at times unprofessional. Coffee has been consistently old. Quality of food does not seem to have a real and home-like feel, but tastes and feels mass produced. Montgomery need more competition in the breakfast market.

So let me start off by saying that the lacking stars were certainly NOT for service. From the hostess, to the manager, to my server, and even his trainee, the service was great. The food on the other hand....meh. Reminds me of IHOP or Perkins. I had the Sunrise Chile Rellenos and a side of biscuits and gravy. The eggs were well cooked and fluffy, but it tasted like a green bell pepper was in the middle, not chile rellenos...hot sauce cured that issue pretty quickly. I was hoping for some good gravy, especially becasue of my location in the deep south. Highly disappointed. Not only was it clear that it was some pre-packaged crap, but I could actually TASTE the packaging in the gravy. Tasted old and stale...stay away from this dish. Just my suggestion. Coffee wasn't bad. So, overall....meh.

What a phenomenal establishment. I'm glad I arrived early on a Sunday morning. I'm sure they can get very busy. I was greeted by the most friendliest host ever....he had such a nice smile and warm personality. My order was to-go and he even offered me complimentary coffee while I waited, which I declined however. I ordered a turkey sausage, chicken, fresh avocado and Jack and Cheddar omelette, grits, corned beef hash and one slice of French toast....yesss, I was starving, lol!!!! My order was ready within 15 minutes....these guys are efficient!!! However, my breakfast was not good. The omelet was a bit hard, the corn beef hash was really dry and the grits lacked seasoning. The French toast was okay, albeit crammed into the small container. Anyway, thanks a million for your hospitality....I will hopefully give this venue another chance.

When I walked in I was greeted by a manager and my name was put onto a waiting list. I was a party of one so I was seated within 5 minutes even though they were very packed. I told the manager that this was the first time I have been here and we had a brief conversation about what brought me in. It was nice and personable. Connie was my server and she was very nice and checked in on me often throughout my meal. She told me since it was my first visit I'll get something to use on my next visit. Some sort of card that they'll open at my table when I'm in again. I got the Eggs Plus which came with two eggs cooked whichever way I wanted, my choice of bacon or ham, grits or ranch potatoes, & my choice of toast. I chose wheat toast, both grits and ranch potatoes, bacon, & egg whites. Everything was delicious except next time I visit I want to request extra crispy bacon and well done eggs. I got hazelnut coffee and it was delicious. I had a great experience and will most definitely recommend.

Passing through town. Great place. Easy access, friendly, energetic and attentive waitress. Great menu selection and quality was fantastic. Loved the corned beef hash! Flavored coffee was good too. Military discount!

Great brunch feels like a local joint rather than a franchise! Good eats :) especially when traveling, like we were.

Ate here for breakfast with a few friends. Okay, nothing great but decent. Would have been two stars but we had great service. It feels a bit "chainy" to me. Brightly lit and quite plain inside. Food: hit and miss. Two of us had omelets which were good. One of us had a "chicken hash" which was pretty weak. There was virtually no chicken in it and it was constructed of what seemed to be boxed, freeze dried potato. Not tasty and weird texture. We all also split a apple-cinnamon whole-wheat pancake. It was great. Crunchy with granola in it and slivers of apple, too. Coffee: great! A few different selections but not cheap. About $3 for a cup of coffee which I thought was steep but the quality was good. Also, they bring out insulated carafes which is really nice-no need to bug your waitress for another cup. Service: after waiting ten minutes a waitress finally came over and asked if anyone had come to our table yet. She apologized and said she would serve us. She was very friendly and even packed us coffee "to go" at the end of our meal. I've never experienced that at a non-hotel restaurant before. It was a great way to end the meal. They also give a military discount which is always a plus.

I had the Texas Skillet, and it was ok...until I pit their signature hot sauce: The Egg & I-yi-yi!!! That really set the dish off. The Skillet is an egg-lectic (hehehe) mix of ground steak, real potatoes, peppers, red onions and some seasoning. Their bakery has a terrific sourdough loaf with a carafe of coffee, Frank Sinatra and a delightful decor. And a military discount! Winning....

I found this little gem after searching long and hard for a breakfast restaurant that was different than the usual "Bob Evans"or "Denny's" feel. This restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. Our waitress was excellent! The food was great! It wasn't out of this world but it was cooked well and served carefully. Overall, this cute little restaurant served our desires well and I would definitely go back!

Enjoyed my birthday breakfast trying this place for the first time !! The food was delicious and the service was amazing ! Ask for ROB I know we will next time !! The Eggceptional Omelete and the Colorado jack scrambler are awesome choices but so many things looked so good on the menu l had a hard time choosing !! If I could say anything to improve this it would only be that we need an Egg and I at East Chase ! Will definitely be coming back here !!

I can't understand the positive reviews. I've been to this place three times now, thinking each time that the others must have been bad days. My experiences have ranged from awful to barely tolerable. Pros from today's visit: my server was awesome and enthusiastic. The Belgian waffle was tasty (though a bit soggy in the middle). Cons: My eggs were overcooked. My bacon was undercooked. I asked for cheese grits and got a cup of lukewarm grits, apparently unbuttered, with cold grated cheese floating on top. Everything took much longer than it should have to come out, which made me not want to bother asking for my meal to be replaced. I am a lousy cook, but I can make all of these things better (and faster) than this place does, which is inexcusable given that its primary business is breakfast food.

  • Bob T.

Can't say how lunch is although the lunch menu looked great...but for breakfast this is heads and shoulders above the normal IHOPs, Dennys or Waffle Houses. I had one of their eggs benedicts and my wife had the Belgian waffles...both were terrific. The service was excellent even for a fairly busy Sunday morning. The prices are a little bit above what you would pay at one of the big chain breakfast places, but for a nice, tasty breakfast...we both highly recommend Egg and I.

I like this place. It's simple food and done well. Service is great and the coffee is good (they keep your cuppa filled). My only complaint is the menu is kind of boring. I mean, they try, but they aren't getting it. The huevos rancheros for instance. Get rid of the flour tortilla and do the traditional corn tortillas with over easy eggs. Top it with a really good well seasoned tomatoe based sauce, a little crumbled asadero cheese and serve it with a side of beans and you would have a total winner. Instead, it was boring. I had the eggs benedict. It was good - but if you hit the hollandaise with a little decent quality sherry it would be phenomenal. Once again, I like this place. It's just a little too much like too many other places to really stand out.

Visiting Montgomery for a week. Hoping to find a place that I could give 5 stars. This is that place. Go NOWHERE else for breakfast. Had their Mediterranean egg omelet which was DELICIOUS. Always hesitant to get egg whites because they end up with the taste and texture of a sponge. This wasn't remotely like that. Menu selection is varied with a lot of not typical choices. Decor and ambience is nicely done. Prices are fairly reasonable. My sister's omelet and mocha coffee were also very good. Service was good, quick, attentive, and slightly irreverent which I always enjoy. This place is not even remotely comparable to a chain breakfast joint.

Incredible menu, food and service. Ordered the Green chili chicken hash (diced grilled chicken mixed with hash potatoes, jalapeños, green peppers and onions. Topped with pork green chili. Two poached eggs, mixed cheese, sour cream & guacamole). You MUST try the bottled hot sauce on the table & take home a bottle. Def returning to this place.

Stopping through from Atlanta and found this little gem. The general manager, Emmett, greeted us at the door with a huge smile. The restaurant is quaint, service is exceptional and the food is delicious!! Try the Apple cinnamon pancakes, amazing! And the waitress, Bambi, is a breath of fresh air.

Good food and nice service, but don't do takeout here. I did it twice, and the first time they completely forgot to put the order in. The second time, they have my order to somebody else, and I had to wait there for 45 minutes while they got it figured out. I've been here a couple of times for a sit-down meal, though, and although it's always taken a while to get my food, it's been pretty good.

Oh my tastebuds rejoice at the memories of my breakfast here. This is a surprisingly trendy, beautifully decorated breakfast restaurant in Montgomery. Would fit well in Charlotte. I'll have to contact the owners :) It's hard to impress me with an egg benedict due to the heavenly one I've eaten in a Boston cafe but here they did a french spin on it and called it a Parisian Benedict. Incroyablement délicieux!! Our waitress was super sweet and helpful. The presentation of food was top-notch. And to top it all off, they give you a sealed envelope with a $5-25 coupon inside and you can't open it. Your server will have to open it on your next visit (2 week expiration I think). Great marketing, great service and delicious food!

Amazingly friendly staff and great service all around. Even though it's a chain the food is legit and the options are way better than other similar restaurants.

Oh how I love these places for breakfast. The best breakfast chain in the history of breakfast chains. Whether it's Montgomery, Vegas, or San Antonio -- the food is always dynamite.

About a year ago, I called in a to-go order from Egg and I. The extra side I ordered was missing from the order, but upon checking my receipt, I was charged for it. I figured I'd give them another try yesterday. Again, the extra side of ranch potatoes with sour cream I ordered was missing, my husband did a create your own omlette and two of his chosen ingredients were missing. I was again charged for the side I didn't receive. If by some slim chance I ever go back, I understand now I must turf out the contents of the to-go order there in the restaurant and dig into the food to make sure nothing's forgotten, but after two like episodes, I don't think it's worth the bother.

A large group (11) of us went there for brunch. There was no issue with seating us together, Food was amazing, Portions were plentiful but not over ridiculous, The menu was beyond creative, Service was superb! If I were a local, this would be my weekly brunch spot!

I went recently with a friend on a Saturday morning. It wasnt too crowded when I arrived around 9 am but definitely there was a wait when we left around 11am. My omelet and grits were good and the menu accommodates all diets. I can be a picky eater but the kitchen made my food just as I asked. The portion size was large and our waiter was so sweet. The service was good and the bathrooms were very clean. I will definitely come back and eat one day.

Went for lunch with the office. Food was great. My food came well after the other 6 people at the table and they gave me potatoes instead of the grits I ordered and forgot the toast. They corrected themselves quickly bringing out my grits & toast almost immediately. When I approached the register to pay, they said it was on the house and apologized! Excellent customer service. I hope to return soon, and if all goes smoothly, raise my star rating for them again!

The chopped salad with balsamic dressing was very good. I was not expecting chicken & bacon, but it was not a bad surprise. Chicken salad on rasin bread reminded me of grandma's.

Average greasy breakfast joint with some heavy, gut-busting dishes. I'll go back every once in a while.

More of a 2.5 stars, but I'm rounding down because of the first initial experience. Arrived at about 10;30AM on a Sunday morning with my parents in tow, as we were in Montgomery and wanted a more area-authentic dining experience before we hit the road to Atlanta Airport. We were excited to see that it was so poppin' around that time, as the rest of Montgomery is a bit desolate on a Sunday Morning for them church-goin' folks. We immediately put our name down and were told that it would be an 18-20 minute wait, which was totally fine due to the crowd. The closer it got to our 18-20 minutes, the hungrier we were getting. They have a nice option for free complimentary coffee (and it IS yummy coffee), but that only made me and dad even hungrier. the 20 minutes pass and it's encroaching on 30, when we are about 2 tables away from being seated. Suddenly this woman comes up and is asking to seated outside in the patio and is seated right away! My mom and I were PISSED, as this should have been made explicit that if we wanted to sit outside that we would be seated sooner - we werent even ASKED if this was an option, we just assumed they sat people out there first come first serve! We were apologized to vehemently by some lady who seemed to be a restaurant supervisor or sorts (not a hostess, but not the manager), and she said we could definitely sit out at the remaining table but to also be aware that it might take some time for our food to come out as the waitstaff is very busy on the inside. So... she was being honest about the fact that we would essentially be ignored if we sat outside. Thanks, but no. We'll wait now to be seated inside. We finally were seated 10 minutes after this seating debacle, it did go uphill from there. My parents loved the food (i didn't particularly care for the chicken ranch wrap that I had, but oh well), and the coffee was phenomenal with it being self-pour, i.e., all-you-can-drink for about $3. The sour taste left in my mouth with the seating though will ensure that I won't be back anytime soon, even if it were the only place open when we visit Montgomery. I'll take my chances at Panera, thanks!

What a find! It was our first time there and were immediately impressed with smiles from the servers. Service was great , restrooms were clean & orders were promptly delivered. The Berry Oatmeal was divine served with blueberries and raspberries and granola . On the side a beautiful cup of fresh fruit and an English muffin. The Veggie Benedict looked so go that I, a non.egg eater ,could have eaten it. The scrambled eggs and cheese came with bread , which our friend doesn't.t eat but they gladly substituted fresh sliced tomatoes . We were so happy with our breakfast and there was plenty of it by the way..that none of us wanted anything but a salad for dinner. Go and enjoy .

My husband and I are on Montgomery for the weekend and wanted good breakfast, specifically eggs Benedict. We were seated right away, the staff is very friendly and helpful but the food was just good. Nothing really to write home about. However, it wasn't bad. It could be a good staple for visitors/locals.

Great breakfast/ brunch place. I have eaten here several times and enjoyed it each time. The food is reasonably priced with a great selection. staff is friendly, service is good and the restaurant has a hi 90's food score. Parking is not an issue. The bathrooms are in good shape. Nothing is worse than a " crappy" bathroom at a nice restaurant. Enjoy....

The family and I had lunch at Egg And I. We found only one whiny Yelp review but many positive reviews on Urbanspoon. Some folks cannot be pleased no matter how you try. Forewarned with the complains, I was ready for the visit. At 1pm the restaurant was crowded but not overflowing. We were seated at a table upon our arrival and the waitress was right there to greet us and take our drink orders. She promptly returned with our sodas and carafes for refills, then she took our order (one omelet, one pancake, one benedict) which arrived hot and fresh at our table in sixteen minutes. Everything was prepared well and was enjoyed by all. On our yearly trip to Destin, we eat at Another Broken Egg Cafe which has the same breakast/brunch/lunch format. This was our first meal at this chain which is growing nationwide. We shall return for there are many items on the menu we'd like to try. Egg And I also has a meeting room which can be reserved at no cost.

My family decided to try some thing different for breakfast other than our traditional Cracker Barrel when we are out of town. We looked at the reviews and decided to try the The Egg and I. The decor and atmosphere seemed very pleasant and fresh. Our wait time to be seated was 9 minutes over the quoted 10 minutes, but we were hungry and decide to wait it out. The biggest frustration was that we sat down at 11:11am and most of food was served at 11:41am. My food was served at 11:46am. I contemplated just leaving but I know that our breakfast options were limited and did not want to risk going through the same issue at another restaurant. The biggest insult was seeing others served who sat down after us. The waitress was attentive and was very apologetic for the delay but she saw that I was very annoyed. Now, the food was absolutely delicious and I would almost say worth the wait but when you have a five year old consistently screaming that I am hungry and where is the food, it gets too be frustrating. However, the food was delicious and I like the fact they had turkey options. I would have given the place four stars but the final insult was that while waiting to pay our bill, the cashier let another patron blatantly walk in front of my wife and pay. My wife surprisingly kept her cool and waited for the cashier to address the matter, but he did not. I will send a letter to corporate and based on the response will determine if we will eat there again.

Great service. Everyone that works there is extremely friendly. Plenty of breakfast items to choose from. Portions are a little smaller than I'd like since I love to eat, but I think it's better to have the right size portion with a stronger focus on the quality of food. My favorite would have to be the pancakes and least favorite would be the frittatas. 10% discount for military as well!!

  • Terinee B.

BY FAR - the BEST BREAKFAST spot in Montgomery!!! Hands down!! I haven't tried one thing here that I did not thoroughly enjoy!!! On top of that, the staff is phenomenal, servers really take care of you, and the food is VERY affordable!

  • Jake H.

READY to come back. Close to a 5. Franchises (this isnt a large one) get a bad rap but good food is good food. Blue berry pankcakes were non-denominationaly plain and simple and awesome - Done close to perfect as possible. Fresh squeezed orange juice. Check. Service great. check. When you are the only breakfast presence in montgomery (pretty much) im sure it would be easy to slack off, but this place still puts alot of 'hip' joints, nashville included, to shame.

    (4)
  • Lou M.

Wow wheat pancakes are the bomb, corn beef hash are awesome. You can't miss with this place bring your appetite people, this is it! What your wanting and more. I wish they had this in Detroit.

Enjoyed a nice lunch of breakfast food here with the family! I had a Denver omelet, and was able to sub fresh fruit for the potatoes, and choice of bread (I got English muffin).everyone at the table enjoyed their food, which included frittatas and a waffle, as well as other omelets. The server was very efficient and friendly too.

A nicer IHOP, this place offers a great breakfast selection at a decent price. Omelets are very good, my favorite is the Garden Frittata. It comes with ranch style potatoes and toast and runs about $8.50 or so. The coffee is also very good, but kinda pricey for dine-in coffee in my book. There can be a wait on Saturdays so get in early. Service is very good and the servers are very polite and usually in a great mood which is nice. The first time we went we were inadvertently seat in a section with no server, but our new server and the manager were apologetic and we got two free coffees for the inconvenience. We've since revisited and it was a great experience. Good, clean eating experience in an rejuvenating part of town. Well worth a go. Would be five stars, but it's every so slightly pricey and the coffee seems high. Ask for a to-go cup to maximize the dollar on brew.

  • Joe T.

Very enjoyable breakfast. Staff was great from hostess to waiter. Price was reasonable and portions were large. We sat outside on a perfect morning and enjoyed ourselves very much. The food however was a "B" at best, typical breakfast fare. We didn't try anything fancy we had the NOLA Eggs Benedict and a spinach and mushroom omelet, both large portions and well made. All in all.... A very enjoyable experience.

  • Chris K.

Excellent food at a reasonable price. I had the pineapple-coconut pancake (one pancake bigger than my head) with eggs and sausage patties. It was awesome! Coffee was good too. Will definitely return.

I am honestly not sure how this place is still open. Today was our second and last visit to this lame restaurant. One member of our party received her food 20 minutes before everyone else. After finally getting the rest of our order, our eggs were ice cold and the potatoes were undercooked and cold. After letting our waiter know the problem, he offered to replace our food but we did not want to wait another 30 minutes. He said the manager would stop by, but she never did. Upon leaving, we were offered half off of one meal and a gift certificate for $10. Since we won't be back, we gave it to another table.

I don't really understand the negative reviews. I've lived in Montgomery for over seven years and this is the first departure that I've seen here from the usual breakfast places such as Cracker Barrel, Waffle House and IHOP chains. This is a good place for breakfast if you are tired of the usual "lack of variety" in Montgomery. They are all things egg. They serve frittas, omelets and eggs any style. From Greek Flavor to TexMex/Mexican fillings and toppings. This establishment is very clean and the service is usually quick. On the four occasions that my family and I have been here, we've always had quick service and good food. Now, I will warn you that if the meal description indicates salsa, green chili or hollandaise sauce, your food will be smothered in it. I recommend that you order it on the side and add just only what you want. We enjoyed our experiences thus far and will be back.

My new favorite breakfast place in Montgomery, AL. Great breakfast at a very reasonable price. Even though it is a small chain, it is the best I have found so far. Highly recommend anything with french toast.

  • David K.

We made the mistake of trying to have breakfast at this breakfast restaurant during the breakfast hour--on a Sunday. The staff was overwhelmed. We waited to be seated, waited to be waited on, then waited (and waited and waited) for our food. We watched a table nearby change their order to to-go after waiting about as long as we did. The food? OK. But the wait ruined the dining experience. They need either more cooks or fewer tables.

    (2)
  • Courtney B.

To Go Order review. Staff was amazingly friendly and on point with checking in with me about my order's progress. Food was just a little small and a little mediocre. Maybe this place shines more outside the basics of waffles, eggs, and bacon?

  • Kent O.

I travel to Montgomery a lot, and even though my hotels usually provide a free breakfast, I almost always go to The Egg and I for breakfast. The seem to know if I'm in a hurry, or if I just want to be left alone to eat and read emails. Free WiFi, btw. I've had several items off the breakfast portion of the menu, and I have taken clients there many times. I appreciate that they have a rewards program...something like every 6th or 7th meal is free if you get the punch card. They did change GM's rather suddenly in May or June. I was there one day, 2 days later there's a new GM, but they didn't seem to miss a beat.

  • Melissa T.

I'm not sure what the hype is about. I guess there isn't enough breakfast & brunch places around Montgomery. Every time we've come for Sunday brunch, there is always a wait, so I recommend going before 11am if you can. The food is average, there really isn't anything special about it all. I would even say its slight under seasoned. We've tried the omelets and frittatas. In general, I the egg dishes were okay but I think I can make something better at home. The toast came burnt but generously buttered. The waffles are okay (did not have the crunch you usually get) and overpriced for a piece of carbohydrate that comes with a few berries. The restaurant is bright and spacious, so its nice for families.

Great place for b-fast. The food was fantastic and so was the service. If ya'll get tired of waffle house, go here. You won't be disappointed. The waffles were some of the best I've tried. Of course the eggs were just wonderful.

  • Chris R.

What a great place for breakfast/brunch. They were busy with the Sunday after church crowd and our table of three walked right in to an open table. I'll happily recommend this place to friends visiting the Maxwell Gunter Annex as it's close, has great food, great service, and is reasonably priced. They also offer a military discount at the register. They have a full range of styles of eggs benedict, non-egg dishes, and their biscuits and gravy were excellent as well.

    (5)
  • Bridget K.

This place was good, nothing special though. The typical breakfast place. I got the eggs benedict, good but not great. My mom got a pancake, again good but not great. It's definitely better than IHOP or Denny's but nothing to go crazy for.

    (3)
  • Holli D.

The place is cute, the staff is friendly, service quick & everything was super clean. I felt the coffee was a bit overpriced...over $2.00 for a just a regular cup of coffee. I got the egg white omelet with spinach & other veggies. It was very good, but again pricey for a 3 egg white omelet nearly $9.00. I never got my fruit. I was charged 50 cents for a side of jalapenos. I am a fan, but not a fan of a $15.00 breakfast.

Probably the best breakfast in Montgomery. Good food, good location, decent wait staff.

Why do people go here? It was fine, I guess. The Colorado scramble was a bit disjointed and nothing special. Nice enough atmosphere, but nothing above and beyond.

Best place to get a nice healthy, but hearty breakfast in town!! Everything is the best! I love the eggs Benedict, the waffles are heavenly! Atmosphere is nice. I came here for breakfast the other day, and we were the only ones there maybe we were too early. Hope it does more business because the food is amazing and you can get lunch for breakfast or breakfast for lunch!! Service was great!! Cant wait to return!!

I've been with friends to the Egg & I quite a few times...food has always been good and service has always been great!

    (4)
  • Jim M.

Not the best breakfast in Montgomery. Mediocre at best. Nice enough atmosphere I agree and the food is ok. Only been a couple times and will go back. Still it does seem more like the egg dishes are off the back of a truck, microwaved, then brought to your table. Montgomery's breakfast selections are limited on Sunday so I am glad this is an option.
