Old Smokey Bar-B-Q has been making good Southern Bar-B-Q since I was in diapers. They are a Leeds institution. That said, Old Smokey is good not great. They definitely have some room for improvement. The main reason I gave them a three star rating is their pricing. They are way too expensive when compared with their competitors. For example a small BBQ pork sandwich with one side, and a small drink will set you back about $10.00!!! As I said before the food's good, but it's not that good. We aren't talking "sit down restaurant" quality, more like high quality fast food. In my opinion a meal like the one mentioned above shouldn't cost more than $6.00 at the most. Old Smokey is one of only two Bar-B-Q joints in the Leeds area (the other one being Rusty's Bar-B-Q which I haven't tried yet). But if you find youself in Leeds Alabama, craving good Southern Bar-B-Q, and can afford to shell out alot of money for it, then Old Smokey is the place for you.

Not bad. As BBQ goes, standards are high in the south. It has been my experience that the small mom and pops often have something to offer. This place is no different. Good food and friendly service. Consistency is the key issue. Baked beans are some of the best to be had though. Try to avoid 12:00 - 1:00 as the place is easily overwhelmed at peak time.

Old Smokey is the best. We live nearby and eat there at least once a month. The sliced pork BBQ, cheeseburgers, corn dogs, and sides are all fantastic.

As far as BBQ goes, especially in Alabama, the competition is really stiff. I'm no BBQ connoisseur but I have had some of the best in the state and across the country because I travel quite a bit. This place is situated in the small town of Leeds and there is another competitor right up the road from this place so it's hard not to compare the two. This place is definitely below average. The favorite thing I had from here were the baked beans. I thought they had a nice flavor and were cooked well. The Cajun fries were average and I didn't finish the BBQ sandwich that I ordered. The main thing was I just didn't like their sauce at all and the pork was below average. I've heard their burger is decent and perhaps I will try it one day but for now this is my takeaway from my first experience.

If you like a few fries with your salt you'll love this place and before you think it's just the fries no, the sauce is ridiculously strong, likely mostly being salt though perhaps it's a number of ingredients. Whatever it is, it MIGHT be decent if they diluted it almost 1/1 with water. So strong it's almost inedible The beans weren't bad. I think the reason other people have commented on them is because the other items are so bad they seem better. And then the banana pudding. They try to fool you by slicing a few bananas and throwing some vanilla wafers in the cup but it's Jello Banana pudding or something of that caliber. How this place is in business is beyond me other than, if you've been to Leeds you might get it. Leeds has a world class motorsports park, a bass pro shop and an outlet mall. Other than that it's a miserable and depressing place so this well below average BBQ joint fits right in. Awful.
