If your in town, or just passing by, Mexican food is sometimes a rinse and repeat collection of the usual suspects. But do give this place a try. The fresh choices, some new ones, the decor, even the Michelada was good and that from my south of the border friend who knows his Michelada. Good food and decor are only part of the successful formula, the choices were necesary expectations but farther on the Grill selections, and while the salsa could use a little more attention the portions are good and the staff was friendly. Worth a few tries for sure.

It's pretty good food though the service isn't the greatest. They'd really compete better with Locomex in town, if they had a Taco night too.

Very good restaurant especially for lunch. Very easy to get in and out of quickly when in a hurry.

Worst service ever. I tried to call and place a to go order no one answered phone, should have been a clue to me. I went inside to place order, I paid and I get home and it is wrong food. I call and get told I took the wrong order and I am told I took the wrong food, interesting don't you think you would have stopped me from taking the wrong food? I was never told I took the wrong food and funny enough the bag I took was what they walked out from the kitchen and the other order had been sitting there since I came in so how could it be my order? Worst customer service I have ever experienced.

Having grown up in California and my dad being in town from California I figured it was time to try this place out. I have given it 4 stars because I have finally come to terms with the fact that Mexican food in the south pretty much just sucks and I might as well start grading on a curve rather than using my own personal standards for this type of food. Using my own standard this place would get 2.5-3 stars. As others have said the interior looks awesome and the staff is great. The food had decent flavor but lacked spice (which is the norm down here). My Chimichanga was barely fried so the texture was strange and as I said before, it lacked spice despite being the "spicy chicken" variety. My dad ordered some sort of burrito and said it was "eh, not gross but not great". His plate was also severely chipped in several spots around the rim. Despite it being the "best" Mexican food in Jacksonville I don't plan on returning unless I'm hard up for Mexican food.

Service is awful. Food barely passes as Tex-Mex. Don't bother.

The place is beautifully decorated!! Staff was friendly & the place was eat off the floor kinda clean! I loved how they give each person their own salsa...I like to double dip...don't judge me! The chips were yummy & fresh. I got lunch special number 1 for under $6 that was enough food for 2: beans, guacamole salad, chili relleno and beans. It was delicious & anytime in the area I will eat there again!!

California spoiled for Cocina Mexicana, but a very nice well decorated place. Excellent service. My beef is with all the local Mexican restaurants using ground beef in the tacos, enciladas and tamales, rather than the beef cunks found in Mexican restaurants out west. Still, a very nice place

Baja is a fairly new mexican restaurant in town. It's very roomy and clean. The food has always been good, the waitstaff friendly, and the meals reasonably priced. They also have a large bar area set up to the side, though I've never put it to use. Lots of tv's set up throughout the place, so probably a good place to have a beer and catch a game if you're into that. Overall, my favorite mexican restaurant in the area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
