Amendment 21 is an oasis in a rough sea of bars in HSV. As a couple in our thirties, we have had fun nights at Humphrey's and even some crazy throw back nights at Mickey's, but this is the type of place where we feel truly at home. The key is the service - the bartenders here know their customers, are kind and generous with pours, and give the place a personal touch. The drinks are top - I had the strawberry mule which was a bit too sweet for my tastes but I loved the creativity of the drink - from the hand muddled strawberries to the mason jar. The liquor selection is vast. My boyfriend was back this week for a Scotch tasting - 9 scotches for $15 - you won't find a deal like that anywhere - and you get to meet some cool characters along the way. I think they do tastings every Tuesday at 7 pm upstairs. Chill, not smoky, original, bespoke drinks - fun times in HSV....

I like the place. The building is unique and all. But their customer service is horrible! I called, left messages and emailed at least a month in advance for a private party. No one ever contacted me back! Even if the place is unavialable, have the decency to return my messages...

Great place to chill out and visit with friends. As noted by others, this is not a place with loud music or smoking, but is a classy establishment. The signature drinks are pricey, but very nice and made with the freshest ingredients and are delicious. The staff is attentive, helpful, and considerate of any requests. When we came in, the manager/server immediately took our coats and checked them and helped them on us when we were ready to go. Impressive service... Again, this isn't the place I'd go and order tequila shots (although I'm sure they serve you the best ones you've had if you did), but where I'd meet someone to catch-up after work or meet for a drink after a symphony or Broadway play.

Amendment 21 is my favorite place for going out to chill with friends. It has an extremely mellow atmosphere and a very cool vibe that's not like most of the other bars in Huntsville. The downstairs is separated with couches and small tables for smaller groups, and the upstairs is more open and can be rented for special events. The drinks are AMAZING and hand-made! The cocktails can be a little on the strong side, so be prepared! I really like the white sangria for something with a little less punch. The drinks cost a little more, but its definetely worth it for the quality they offer. The servers are always super attentive, they come to you as soon as you walk in and keep pretty perfect track of your drink level and when you'll need to order something else.

A really nice place with a cool sleek interior. The signature cocktails are awesome. You can expect to wait a while for one of these cocktails because if it includes some kind of fruit or vegetable they make it completely from scratch (absolutely no mixes). The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. The place is very small but didn't seem too crowded when I was there. It had a very intimate feel which I appreciated. I would recommend it for a good chilled out kind of night on the town. Don't expect any loud music, heavy smoke, or people grinding against each other.

Has a nice, upscale lounge vibe. Not really my style, but it is a nice place to sit and chat. Drink prices are almost twice what you'll pay anywhere else in town, which sucks because you're in Huntsville and not L.A. or New York. On the other hand, you don't have to be around the human garbage that you see at Sammy T's and Rush!

Awesome place! Great, crafted drinks (even just for you if you ask). The perfect place for ex-pats to meet up and discuss the city and network.

Amendment XXI has been open for a few months now. The real key to this place is the service. The bartenders are by the far the best you will find in town, especially if you are sitting at the bar area. It doesn't take them long before they know your name and exactly what you like to drink. I came back after about a month-long hiatus and Vince knew that I was ready for a Yeungling when I sat down. Most of the cocktails are spectacular, even though they are a bit pricey. The Happy Hour Specials are a great deal, especially the $6 cocktails and $4 sangrias. The couch environment is perfect for you and your group of friends to chill and relax after a long day!

Very classy bar. Great place to unwind. Comfy couches and chairs, and it's not too loud so you can actually have conversations. Don't forget to visit the upstairs area.

New bar in the old House of Brews on courthouse square. Pretty plush and cozy, although it felt like the heater was not working and it was freezing outside. Full bar, no food yet, great service. Upstairs is a private club, more couches, grand piano. Jazz concerts promised in the future. Cool place, upscale.

definitely a bar that you wouldn't think to find in Huntsville (which is a good thing). NON SMOKING which is a big plus from people who are used to cities that have banned smoking in bars. very friendly service and very well made cocktails, not just the ones on the menu but they do a great old-fashioned. they don't have food, but they have menus from Humphrey's down the street and will deliver it to you in the bar.

This place is WAY overrated. Don't expect them to know how to make any cocktails beyond gin & tonics and jack & cokes. I ordered an old fashion, a sazerac, a manhattan, and a rusty nail, none of which were worthy of the 8 or 9 bucks I spent on each. I guess the jokes on me since I kept ordering, but I was hoping that our bartender would get one of them right. Another thing, the bartender upstairs is aweful. He thinks he is cool and funny and a great bartender, but sadly he is none of these. This place is in a cool location but is a far cry from the speakeasy-style or "crafted cocktail" bars in other towns. I want to like this place, but I just don't.

Amendment 21 is an awesome place to hang out with friends. The drinks are great, if a bit pricey, and the bartenders are very knowledgeable and have unique takes on drinks that are amazing. The atmosphere downstairs is very relaxed, and there is live music sometimes in the outdoor seating area. Upstairs, there is another bar that becomes your more "party" area at night, and it can get really loud and crowded. This is a great place to go on the weekend, and I definitely think everyone should check it out.

Great location. Hip, classy, interior. Nice comfy couches to chill with friends. Loved hearing Tyler on acoustic guitar. I though the mixed drinks were just average. I am a hard to please mixed drink person though. Still if I am going to pay $13 for an Old Fashioned it better be good. It was just OK. Vodka on the rocks was only 7.50 and was a generous pour I thought. They had a number of bartenders so I will be interested to see if the old fashion changes with a different person. Go to this place.

In a town lacking for good cocktail bars, Amendment XXI is a haven for for good drinking. Classics and Originals are made properly with care and nothing but fresh ingredients. They're a bit limited compared to some bars of this ilk in other cities, but they do well considering the bottles they have access to through Alabama's ABC system. As someone who does most of his drinking in New York, I was happy to find this Oasis in downtown Huntsville over the Holidays.

My first experience with Amendment XXI is a tale of two cities, er, um... floors. Downstairs: upscale, urban... almost. Close but not cramped. Upstairs : well... I'll get to that in a second. The good : The bartenders rock. They had a bunch of mules on the wall (why is this drink suddenly so popular now?) but I told him no Absolut. Unbiased, the barkeep downstairs was smart enough use Bombay Sapphire to my mule so he gets the gold star of the night. In fact if I had a sister, I'd let him date her. The bad: it's not really on them but... the crowd. I guess because AXXI is about as good as it gets, you get everybody (sans the Sammy T's crowd). But I mean... the most interesting person of the night was 60. The ridiculous : well that whole thing about upstairs.. Mannnnn.... Lol. So there's a small dance floor and bar upstairs (straight back, take the elevator). It kinda reminded me of a house party I crashed and promptly left in Colorado Springs but um... at first I couldn't tell if they were dancing or convulsing. DJ was mangling tracks from the early 00's and people were line dancing. But the more I drank, the funnier it became. Speaking of drinking... the barkeep upstairs was a shadow of his brethren on the ground. I had to show him the bottle of Angel's Envy... took a minute. But hey, one thing I can say is that the crowd upstairs really enjoyed themselves. In fact, most commented that this was about the best spot to be on a Friday night. Apparently, I was just the odd (wing)man out...and that's not too uncommon. I'll be back to get a second opinion... But I'll probably just lounge around downstairs.

This place is great when the bar is empty. The prices are one of the steepest in the area and the expertise of the bartenders are not worth it at all. The decor was nice, but not worth having to stand like a scarecrow to close out my tab for ten minutes. I've never been to a bar that was so ill-equipped to handle twenty people. Go somewhere else. Granted, the second floor of the bar may be better.

SMOKE-FREE. How the South tolerates the stench of cigarettes in social environments is beyond me, and Amendment 21 is one of the few nightlife spots that doesn't allow this trash. It deserves to stand above the other drinking venues in Huntsville just for the smell. Regardless, this place deserves far higher ratings than it's getting. Coming home for the holidays, the prevailing nightlife of Huntsville can best be described as a mix of roadhouse and trashy. In contrast, Amendment 21 offers a speakeasy cocktail venue with a southern twist. Think Bar Tonique (New Orleans) or Patterson House (Nashville). The biggest negative is the cocktail quality. They tend to over-sweeten the house recommendations and don't have quite the originality of the aforementioned speakeasy equivalents. That said, this place is as good as you're going to get for low-key, high-quality social drinking atmosphere in Huntsville.

I feel really bad writing this review. it was my birthday and we always do pub crawls starting with amendment 21. The bartenders know everyone in my group of friends. we asked two weeks before if we could bring food for a future pub crawl. the answer was yes. i called the week of and the manager, jennifer said that it would cost us... $175 / hour to rent the room, $150 for cleaning, and we had to have a $500 tab. I said it was too much. the day before the crawl, i asked the bartenders, are you sure it's ok if we bring food. they said yes. now the day of, we brought some food and the bartenders are rolling with it like it's all good. jennifer shows up 45 min into it and tells us we owe them money. $390 when they ring us up- $325 + 20% tip. i'm pretty pissed bc we could have just packed up and left, but she made it seem like we had to pay for the time we were there and the cleanup fee. we did violate rules by bringing in food, but if we weren't supposed to be up there, someone should have said something from the start. adn when she finally got down here to tell us something we should have been able to just pack up and go. we didn't have a private party. and we paid for all our drinks. in the end i asked the bartender to bring it down to $300- no cleaning fee or something?... jennifer never even talked to me after that first talk. long story short, yes, it's a business, but she can't blame me for the confusing stories we got from the business. if the bartenders say one thing and she says another, it doesn't matter to me who has "decision making power." jennifer was rude. she probably had to be if they wanted money. she didnt' seem to know any of the customers. bottom line is we were regulars and our last visit left us with a bad taste in our mouth. enough where we don't want to spend any money there anymore, and will probably just not plan anything there and encourage our many friends not to either.

What a breath of fresh air in Huntsville. I often take for granted that bars like this exist living in New York and DC, but this place was great. I was here in October 2012 and I was really surprised by the decor, and the environment. The bartenders were really nice and fun. What a great spot. It's gem in a field of thorns.

I enjoyed the outdoor patio, and the live music. This was the first time I've ever been here. Their specialty cocktails are 1/2 off at happy hour - roughly $7. I ordered the specialty margarita which was: tequila, lime juice, triple sec, habanero agave, and a few other additions I can't recall. The drinks were served in fun mason jars. The drinks were not very strong so I would never pay full price for their cocktails ($13-15). I could get a pizza and a beer at Sam & Greg's for that price!

I have frequented this bar for many, many months [not to sound like a lush] so I am obviously a fan. The staff is, for the most part, attentive and able to mix a good drink. Yes, as noted in several reviews, their prices are 'higher' by Huntsville standards. In my opinion, you get what you pay for. This bar is non-smoking (+), usually filled with a good variety, not too young crowd (+), and this is the place to get a unique, handcrafted cocktail (+). Amendment XXI is also constantly adding new events to their line up. They frequently have a DJ, so if you like dancing, you're all set. Check out their Facebook page to see what events (open mic comedy night, swing dancing, dating game) they currently have going on. The only reason I'm withholding my 5th star is because of pricing. I'm A-okay with paying $$$ for a properly mixed drink but their wine prices are much steeper than other locations with [nearly] the same selection.
