Salsa says it all. If you remember the old El Palacio restaurants in Birmingham this one kept the recipe and the sign. They bring you a hot (awesome) and mild salsa with chips. Great for our party of 5. The Queso is good with chopped jalapeño pieces, the Kid gave it 6/10. Margaritas are good and priced modestly, my Medium, they're Jumbo $6. Food came out fast and all was good but Pop's. He's a bad restaurant Omen. 4 bean enchiladas instead of 4 beef with a side of beans. Server recognized immediately, well...2 bites in and corrected quickly. Back in 4 minutes with a bowl of beans. Friendly staff and great service! Tip: Mi Pueblo Supermarket is across the street! Go!

We returned to San Miguel for the first time since it has changed ownership. The menu is now more limited and seems to concentrate more on gringo mex. No mole, the quail and soups were gone. It's fine but there really are better options for gringo mex and authentic mex in the area.

Service was awful. Our waitress was terrible. She sat down at another table the whole time. My boyfriend never got a refill. The combination fajitas were salty. Only thing that was good was the margarita.

The San Miguel restaurant. Most amazing tacos al pastor in the world. Better than most in Mexico in my very limited opinion. Served simple with lime, cilantro, and white onions. I could eat dozens of the tacos. In the past year, I have probably had a hundred or so. THAT good. One of 5 places we have eaten at twice in b'ham. That says a lot for these little bundles of joy. I would stray away form the "regular stuff" on the menu. It is very normal Mexican food. Go with the tacos. HAPPY HOUR everyday from 4-7pm. 16oz Nuclear Green Margarita for $1.99. It will knock your socks off.

San Miguel's Mexican Restaurant meets the 5 most imporatnt specifications of a local Mexican restaurant: 1) hot chips and salsa within 30 seconds of being sat 2) creamy queso 3) delicious margaritas 4) mean under $10 and 5) classic gumball machine. Okay 6) sambraros on the wall. Servers are smiley, but could be more attentive. Overall...muy bueno. God Bless.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
