Don't go in the entrance down at the end unless you want your first impression to be the doors to the loo. There's indoor plumbing, but with outdoor doors. (Or something like that.) It's a very basic locally-owned joint, featuring burgers and other sandwiches as the heart of the menu. Sides like fries and onion rings seem to be the frozen bagged kind dropped off by the Sysco truck. Service is friendly, offered up by what seems to be a battalion of high-school aged folks working the counter and the grill. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, with the walls an ceiling decorated with lots of things ranging from cheese graters to TONS of train paraphernalia to tacked-up dollar bills. (There no way to know what you might see if you look hard enough.) I was happy to see that it appears to have all been collected by the staff and the customers- so it' not the pre-fab random stuff you see at chain restaurants. The place looks out on the river, with a nice back deck. It's not the sort of place you go for fine dining- it's the sort of place you go when you just want to relax and be comfortable, perhaps lingering over your lunch a little too long while you enjoy the weather and the river view.

Food is good. ALWAYS being run by high schools kids. I have NEVER seen an adult there. SO there really is no "personal" touch to the service - it's take your order thank you good bye. Which is what I expect at a McDonalds not a great little spot like this.

Great food and location! The seating is limited, but the food is worth the wait. Great for families too.

We love this place. Nothing better than a Depot burger overlooking the waterfall on a nice warm day!

Arrived for a late lunch on my way from Montgomery to Birmingham. Basic sandwich shop and grill, but in a really awesome location. While I visited in late July, a nice storm managed to be passing through to make sitting on the deck overlooking the waterfall a reasonable prospect. I ordered a cheese steak with onion rings and unsweetened tea. The tea was good. The onion rings were okay. The Cheese steak was good, not too greasy and served on the right type of bun. All in all, excellent location, and the food was good. Servers could have been better at prompting a new customer as to how to order and how they would bring their food out, so minus one star for that. They should have told me to order at the counter, then they would bring my food out. I ended up standing at the counter waiting like at a fast food place, just because I didn't know they would bring it to my table.

I love the location and the atmosphere here. There's just something so sweet and nostalgic and perfect about eating burgers in a caboose in old town Helena. However, the food is 2 star worthy (basically pre frozen everything) and the service is lameish, it's run by a bunch of high schoolers and, well... It feels that way. The place is kind of sticky everywhere. However, the ambiance of it is just great and the porch over the waterfall coupled with cheap prices means that I'll definitely be back.

Wanted it to be so much better than it turned out to be. It's fun and old school, but 3 of us ordered at counter (no wait service), burger, hamburger steak and chicken sandwich plus side. It was hot out for us Yankees, so we ate inside. Fairly clean, comfortable, but again.... Just ok. Self Serv ice tea, soda in styrofoam cups fairly standard but limited selection. Food came fast. Chicken sandwich was meh, burger was described as good, fresh and hot and hamburger steak platter was good but needed more spice. Fries looked good, i had onion rings which I expected to be homemade. Major disappointment, clearly a U.S. Foods/ Cisco bought deal. Horrible. At the end of the day.... Eh. Outside looked nice, many families sitting overlooking water, enough parking and a limited neighborhood option of places to eat makes this one a maybe return/maybe not.

Usually very good, but not always. Last time we were there they served us cold french fries with our burgers. I complained, and they refunded me a few dollars for the fries and also brought us some fresh fries that were great - extremely hot and crisp - but why didn't they do it right the first time? Why put us through the hassle? Then after the meal I went to the restroom (which is outside and typically not especially clean), but the paper towel dispenser was empty. They need to do a bit better if they want our business more frequently.

Well this place has a special place in my heart. This is where my husband and I ate just before he took me down to the waterfall to propose. I knew that if he had just watched me devour that delicious Philly Cheese-steak and still proposed then he must be in love! The view is beautiful. I wouldn't want to sit on the inside because outside is just so nice. I've only had the Philly and it is wonderful. It's huge on a soft roll. My only disappointment is that the deck outside is not accessible to those in wheelchairs as you have to walk down 2 or 3 steps out of the doorway. You order at the counter and they will bring it to your table. The reason it's on my Top 100 Dishes to Try list: Philly Cheesesteak

Restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere. There is inside seating and outside seating. If it is not too hot, you want to sit outside where you can see and hear the waterfall on Buck Creek. We ordered cheeseburgers and fries. The burgers were really good and were prepared as ordered and only when ordered. The buns were crisp and the meat fresh. They have Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and I think they would be worth trying. The fries were from frozen crinkle cuts. I would not order them again. They also have onion rings and tots. This is a pleasant afternoon outing. Be forewarned they close at 3:00 P.M.

Wife and kids love this place! It's small but is a cool old building.. We generally sit outside on the deck. Good burgers and chili cheese tots!

Good ole' classic griddle food. The Philly Cheese Steak is good. It is a fun spot to take kids and sit out on the back deck. Portions are big enough to split. I love the little jars of seasoning on the table to boost the flavor.

Absolutely delicious! This was our first visit to The Depot Grill and it certainly won't be my last! I found this gem while browsing Yelp, just looking for someplace new, and I now have a new favorite local burger joint. The shop is relatively small and from the outside left much to wonder but once inside the sights of other patrons dishes and the smells nearly had me drooling as we walked in the door and placed our order. Wait time was short during our visit, the menu had plenty to offer for such a small establishment, and the portions for the meager prices were second to none once our order was delivered to the table with absolute precision (each member of our party had a special request for their order)! Wonderful! The rustic and local atmosphere and the FANTASTIC view of the Buck Creek falls from their open-air dining patio was a nice touch of charm (check out the illuminated falls during dusk). Totally worth anyone's time to trek over and check it out for yourself! The menu includes but not limited to: burgers, 'dogs, sandwiches, melts, salads, wings, etc. Family and kid friendly!

Diner style place right by the railroad tracks and the River. I hate that it was a bit too cold to sit on the back deck with a spectacular view of a waterfall. A cozy atmosphere with lots of funky decor items...very eclectic. The FOOD was great!!! My awesome girlfriend had a chicken salad sandwich which was so very good...the chicken salad was tasty without being either bland nor overpowered by seasonings out of balance. I had...wait for it...wait for it... a Burger! It was totes Delish, the fresh burger patty was seasoned perfectly, not overcooked, and it looked pretty on the plate. We will totally be back!!!!!

Excellent view and the best burger in town. I got the Husky and it was a huge burger. It looks like there is not much seating, but there is plenty once you get inside.

Loved this place when I was a carnivore and still love it now as a vegetarian. Ask for a grilled chess with tomato or jalapeño (or both). No better atmosphere overlooking the river that is lit up in the evening. Great onion rings too!

The food is really great, the staff is exceptionally polite, and the view is spectacular. It is the kind of place that you want to go with your family for a nice afternoon. The only problem is they allow smoking on the patio. If you have kids or don't want to be around cigarette smoke, I recommend somewhere else. Otherwise it would have been a 5.

This is one of the regular stops for my family! It has great outdoor dining which is great in the summer but also indoor dining for the colder months. They are famous for their hamburgers but I love the grilled chicken sandwich. My husband can't resist the cheesy chicken and gets that just about every visit. Sometimes it seems like they have some funny hours so I would be sure to call before I head over there. You definitely won't be disappointed!

It's all excellent, from the owner to the service, burgers, fries, cheesesteaks, the cheesy chicken sandwich, and the best outdoor patio on this side of the metro area. They've always treated us right!
