We were in Fairhope on a house hunting trip last month and our real estate agent took us here for lunch. What a gem this place is! It's small and quaint -- not only a restaurant but a small gourmet shop selling their food specialties to go. My husband and I started with a cup of their crawfish gravy served over rice. We followed with an appetizer -- a small crab cake on a bed of greens with a red pepper coulis. Our host had a bowl of the crawfish gravy over biscuits. Everything was delicious! I have a feeling we're going to be regulars here when we move to Fairhope next month!

We stopped here for lunch while in the Mobile area for business, so glad we did! Local food served with a smile and it was delicious. When we mentioned that it was our first time in the restaurant our waiter asked it we would like a free sample of their gumbo and crayfish gravy. He brought us both a sampling of each. They were great, I even changed my mind on what I was going to order. We ordered the shrimp poor boy and the shrimp and grits with crayfish gravy. It was so good. They also have great deserts. We opted to take one to go for later. The carrot cake was one of the best I have ever had. It you are in the area I would definitely recommend going for lunch.

R Bistro is a super cool lunch spot in downtown Fairhope! The desserts are to die for! I loved everything I ordered, especially the ground salmon burger. Not many places you'll find an item like that on a menu!

I so agree with Donna H. - it is a gem and the food is very delicious and imaginative. We got the asiago chicken sandwich (crunchy, with a kick, moist and very addictive) and their spinach&mushroom cheesecake which turned out to be very flavorful, something between a chessecake and a quiche, served with a small salad. Their desserts looked very delicious but a little too rich to our taste so we didnt try any. The noise level can get quite high so I'd recommend to go in after the lunch rush. Service was prompt and caring. We'll definitely be back.

Food was tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. prices sightly high for what you get. Omelette felt like it needed more and I even paid extra for sausage and spinach. (Can't imagine I would have gotten full without the add-ins. Crawfish gravy and biscuits were good but the gravy didn't have much to it. Just tasted like a creamy crawfish soup. The biscuits were delicious and I may need to go back for their desserts since they are mainly known for being a bakery.

My sis and brother n law decided to take me here for my birthday dinner. Nice choice. I thought the atmosphere was nice and cozy. We were greeted promptly and our waitress was nice and attentive. We got the bacon wrapped scallops for an appetizer and they really werent that good. Not what we expected them to be. They were battered and fried to a crisp. Totally didnt even taste the bacon and the scallop kind of got lost in all of it...we wont get that again. However our dinner on the other hand was great. I got the shrimp and gouda grits with crawfish gravy. YUMMY! My brother n law got a pork over sweet potatoes that was SUPER tasty. Make sure you ask for bread to sop all the good gravy and juices with your meal. It was a nice experience and I will be going back to try some of their other dishes. I believe that this place can really outshine a lot of places downtown with just a few adjustments. Overall I recommend going and make sure you try a desert. I got a vanilla and caramel cake that was really good. So save room for their freshly prepared in store baked goods!

A place with five stars? Seriously? Can it possibly live up to the expectations? To my amazement, yes. Tried a bowl of the "crawfish gravey", or as some people would call it, "soup". It was really good. Very creamy with a slight zip to it. The Dixie shrimp was also delicious as well as the spicy chicken sandwich. Service was very good. They make their own bread...it's crazy good. Small place but that adds to its charm.

Went back to R Bistro for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Had the crab claws....holy cow, they were so very good. Cooked to perfection and really big. I also had the ham and cheese croissant melt. So, so good. Guyere cheese and a home made croissant roll. Decadent. I am impressed every time I go to this small restaurant.

This was one of the best meals i have had in a long time. The Grouper special was superb. It was pan fried, but with no trace of being fried, and dressed with a balsamic reduction with pecans. My girlfriend had the salmon on tomato slices which was equally as good. We saw the dessert selection as we walked in so we didn't have an appetizer to leave space for the desserts which worked out well. Great service and a great meal. We will be back.

Went for lunch with a friend. Service was great. We split the special blackened fish rueben and their specialty of shrimp and grits. The sandwich was excellent: fresh, perfectly cooked and unique. The grits were elevated with smoked Gouda cheese, shrimp were fresh and large and covered in a creamy sauce that was decadent but went well. A great little place with a charming feel, exceptional service, and yummy food.

A quaint little place to grab brunch on Sunday (I haven't been for breakfast, lunch, or dinner on other days). We got there right at 11 so I'm not sure how crowded this place could get as it is pretty small. The staff is very friendly and explained how everything was made in house and helped provide details on some of those entrees with unrecognizable names (at least for me). Our party ended up ordering the shrimp and grits, crabcake with crawfish gravy, and the croissant ham and cheese sandwich (there is a fancier name that I don't recall at the moment). All were very good and my only complaint is that the portions are a bit small, at least for me. The baked goods up front looked good and next time I'll have to make sure to try some of the sugary treats.

Perfect place! Delicious food and great service! The shrimp and grits, shrimp slaw and crab and avocado salad.

Hands down the best meal I've ever had. The crab claw appetizer was just a preview of the fabulous meal that was to come. I had the Filet with Green Beans and fingerling potatoes. First time here. I can't wait to go back.

Had a very late lunch, our first time to this spot. We ordered the crab cake app. It was one medium size crab cake but was very very good! My 3 year old loves crab cakes so we let him eat most of it. I had the ahi tuna salad...the dressing was on point- not too heavy/very light. Would order this again. Our server was friendly and brought our son some crayons, always had a smile.

I stumbled upon this place while wandering downtown Fairhope. I was actually interested in a sandwich and they had one on the menu called the Croque Monsieur. This turned out not to be the kind of sandwich I was searching for but the lady who greeted me was nice and suggested a few things. So, I stayed. Let me just say two words, Crawfish Gravy. Okay, one more time for emphasis, Crawfish Gravy. It's a thick, rich soup that you'll love if you like seafood. I had their gumbo too which was also excellent. This will now be a "must" stop every time we're in the area. Oh, did I mention Crawfish Gravy?

Wait staff and chef was very accommodating of vegan and vegetarian requests tonight. Top notch and fresh ingredients. Wonderful arugula salad with carmelized shallots and high quality balsamic. Terrific panko and Asiago crusted tomatoes, but surprisingly, needed salt. Server Lisa was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Delicious local spot for lunch (dinner might be great too). Very small. Save room for dessert, it's a must!

Had a lovely early brunch on Sunday. Staff could not have been sweeter. My boyfriend and I were starving so opted to do the biscuits with crawfish gravy as an app. Outstanding. I would eat cardboard with that gravy. Boyfriend had the grillades and grits. Not sure they qualified as the grillades we are used to but was delicious. I had the croque Monsieur, also good. Loved the bloody marys, very zesty from what I think was a bit of extra horseradish. Will absolutely go back until we have tried everything on the menu!

I am a native of the Eastern Shore and this was my second time eating at R Bistro. Small, intimate setting with good service. Food is AMAZING! Had the gumbo for lunch the first time. Great. Had crab cakes and spectacular special tonight! Sauce was fabulous. My husband had the 8 oz. filet cooked to perfection. Definitely will return and would recommend.

Delicious and wonderful southern hospitality. Lisa was so sweet and suggested the shrimp and grits. I was a bit hesitant as I had never had grits, but it was fantastic. The desserts look amazing. I wish I had room!

This little place is serving up some fantastic food. Husband had the shrimp and grits, and they were the best thing he's ever had in his whole entire life! I had a small bowl of the crawfish sauce with rice, and it was fantastic! We are so glad that we chose this place out of every other place. If were ever in this cute little town again, we will be sure to go back to this one restaurant.

Does this little unassuming restaurant deserve five stars? The answer is yes! I'm a snowbird from Illinois staying in Gulf Shores and we decided to take a drive to Fairhope to shop. We stopped by the visitors center and asked for recommendations and since most of the restaurants closed at 2 pm R Bistro was one of the few open around 3 pm. Boy, were we glad that we dined at R Bistro. We both had the Shrimp and Grits that our waitress recommended and I must say it is the BEST I've ever had. I've had excellent Shrimp and Grits on Hilton Head Island over the years, but none was as good as R Bistro's. Service was excellent and the desserts looked amazing, but no room was left in my tummy.

After a long convention in Point Clear, my family of four ventured to the area before heading back to Texas. We were disappointed that many of the shops and restaurants in Fairhope were closed and wandered past Bistro R. A taxi driver had recommended another location and were searching for it when a nice waitress gave us directions but with just the right inflection noted, "we have great food here....just saying..." An hour later, we left convinced it was one of the best meals we had every had. One order of Eggs Crab Cake Benedict with some amazing grits, gumbo and crab cakes with crawfish gravy and a blueberry pecan chiffon cake....OMG. It rivaled anything we have had in the New Orleans restaurant circuit. Not overly done, fresh and balanced. The atmosphere was Classic Alabama Historic coastal, small, quaint and cozy. Be forewarned, as you enter the desserts ranging from amazing blueberry chiffon cake, key lime pie, chocolate something or the other....and peanut butter cup pie will linger in your head forcing you to be tactical in your main dish selections. Had we not been health conscious, we would have ordered one of each. The servers were likely the friendliest we had had in the four days we'd been in the area--sincerely interested in making sure all was well, attentive at the right times...food served hot and within a reasonable time. In short: FOOD 5/5 Ambiance: 4.75/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 4.99/5 Timeliness 5/5 Value: 4.74/5 OVERALL: 5/5 If we can find our way back in this direction, we'll be back!

Great local place. We both had the bowl Crayfish gravy for lunch after getting a little taste or the Crayfish and the Gumbo . Fresh baked bread was great, and the Peanut butter pie is what I had for desert.

My wife and I try to stop by every time we are in Fairhope. (We live in Navarre, FL, so it's not a long drive for us.) I like to try different items on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. My wife seems to find one or two things she likes on a menu and seldom strays from them. Highly recommend you try the carrot cake.

This place is awesome, let me start off with that. R Bistro is an intimate brasserie located right on Fairhope Avenue in downtown Fairhope. For a place so good you would think it would cost more but the price is exceptional. When you walk in you are greeted with a display loaded with various baked goods and wines. It has a French type hipness to it but still maintains a nice standard of class. One of my favorite things about R Bistro is the atmosphere - very lively like. The menu is also a good blend of french and southern cuisine. You can tell the head chefs (Joe & Misty) truly have a passion by the effort they put into each plate they send out. The staff is professional and Joe even comes out to ask about the food, was very pleased to see that. I have been here twice and found it just as nice both times.. The first time I went was on a Sautrday night and it was packed but we happened to have good timing, we were seated in minutes. Our waiter did a wonderful job of assisting us and was extremely courteous which is very important when I rate an eatery. THE FOOD HERE IS AMAZING. I have yet to have an average dish, much less a bad one. The first time I went I ordered the Barbeque Shrimp and was amazed at what was done with the barbeque sauce. My girlfriend ordered the Crawfish Gravy and Smoked Gouda Grits and loved both of them. The 2nd time I went here was around noon for brunch and once again every table was booked. No surprise here, the Peach Stuffed French Toast Croissant I had was sublime. Best french toast I have ever had! Love R Bistro!!!

This place was music to my mouth! It was such a fantastic and unique culinary experience. Everything that we tried was delicious. The crawfish gravy was heavenly And I am not even a fan of crawfish, but I loved this unique dish!! The gumbo was also great. It had sausage, chicken , okra, and a perfect roux. Even the French fries at this place were outstanding. There was nothing that I didn't like about this quaint little restaurant. The service was superb. Our sweet waitress was attentive (she even brought us samples prior to ordering!), prompt (continuously refilling our drinks and bread basket),and friendly. We will definitely be back!

We live on the Eastern Shore and eat in Fairhope a lot but had never tried this little gem. Glad we did. It is so good! Small, intimate setting with great service and food. We started with the crawfish beignets which were really good. I had the Croque Monsieur which was amazing! The carrot cake for dessert is worth the sweet splurge! Yum. We will be back!

I had the grouper with crawfish "gravy" and it was very good. Service and presentation were fine. This, at least at the lunch hour, is more of an "order and grab" place which makes things a bit too rushed for me. The biscuits are just divine and the desserts looked beautiful - just not something I normally carve. Frankly, for the price, portions could have been bigger and I almost never say that. We will be back - the location is excellent - but it just was not quite my cup of tea.

Y'all, I was so SO happy we stopped by this little bistro on our stroll through downtown Fairhope. Every single thing I ate was magic in my mouth. Their menu was really difficult for me.....basically I wanted one of everything. They offer american bistro cuisine with a southern/cajun flare. YUM!! I ended up going with the croque monsieur which is a classic. My husband had a spicy fried chicken sandwich and I was really impressed with the flavor of the coating (panko thankfully) and the spicy sauce. It wasn't overbearing but light and fresh....you know....for fried chicken. We also had the spinach artichoke dip as an app and my only wish was that there was enough room in my belly for a second helping!

My husband and I were in from out of town and were told us this place was great so we stopped in and sure enough, we loved it. Because we really like breakfast, we even decided to stay in the area two days longer just to get a taste of that brunch menu. We ordered three dishes between the two of us! Everything was almost TOO good- This place is fantastic!

Small but incredible! The food was absolutely amazing. I had a bronzed grouper with lump crab and it was perfect. Followed by a key lime tart with just the right balance of tart and sweet. You can't go wrong here.

I live in Las Vegas and was recently was married in Point Clear. I found R Bistro online to hold our rehearsal dinner for 25 people. I called Misty who was so accommodating! We were able to work up a custom menu. The food was fabulous, the service was impeccable, and the price is right. Misty, you are wonderful to work with and Thank you for being a part of our special day!!

We passed through Fairhope today on our way to catch a flight out of Mobile. - what an amazing surprise. Service was great, menu intriguing, and the food delicious. i ordered the spicy chicken sandwich. It was crunchy, tender, and just spicy enough. The accompanying fries had an awesome cajun seasoning on them. I also tasted my husband's shrimp and grits with crawfish gravy (so rich and delicious), and my mother-in-law's red beans and rice (yum!). Our server was very attentive and "bantered" a bit with my 18-month old son. We only spent about an hour in Fairhope, but thanks to R Bistro, we're already looking forward to returning.

I couldn't even wait to leave the restaurant to write this review. The salmon burger was fantastic. The shrimp po boy was great. The cheese grits were a great side. The atmosphere was really nice and so was the service. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone! I will be happy to come back!

we had the crawfish benignets and the shrimp and cheese grits with crawfish gravy. I would have licked the plate but they were kind enough to provide some very good French baguette.
