For the price and what this is, I would love to throw this place five stars. The staff was friendly. My eggs, sausage, pancake and grits breakfast with coffee was really good. Everything was cooked perfectly and the sausage was NOT like some of the greasy discs I've come to expect (think McDonalds). The whole thing was $8.50 so the price was great. My only complaint was the coffee was basically tan water. No flavor. Just hot and brown -- like the first water that spits out of a long-dormant spigot.

I came back recently with my dad and I have to say after trying other 'blue plate' style restaurants throughout this year this one doesn't quite excel over other towns but in downtown Decatur it earns it's 4 stars. I ordered a veggie plate with mashed potatoes, okra, creamed corn, and field peas. The mashed potatoes and okra were very typical of cafeteria style. The field peas were good. The creamed corn was excellent. Definitely my favorite corn I've ever ordered in a restaurant. My dad ordered the hamburger steak with pintos, turnip greens, and squash casserole. He said it was all ok but his heart belongs to Home Plate Diner in Hueytown for his favorite blue plate lunch. I tried the turnip greens but as it was my first time trying I had to ask how they compared, he said they usually have more flavor. We had both opted for corn bread over a roll and laughed when the cornbread came out. Literally two tiny little corn bread muffins, just big enough to help scoop your food onto your fork as long as you don't take any bites. I would not deter anyone from going here. It's not the best food in Decatur but it's the best place for a blue plate special. Top 100 Dishes to Try: Creamed corn List: The BEST creamed corn I've ever had.

Very good place to get a plate lunch or burger in the downtown area. Best veggies in town. Meat and three sides. For me, regardless of which entrée I choose, two of the sides are always the creamed corn and banana pudding. Both are outstanding. Friendly and efficient staff, and I enjoy the decor which features pictures of local sports and old movie posters.

If you want a good blue plate special this is the place to go. The staff is very friendly and efficient. We order to go sometimes for our business and they always get our large order correct. That is saying a lot these days. The food is always good. Maybe not that healthy but tasty.

Friendly wait staff. Good home style cooking. Okra was amazing and banana pudding was delicious. Would return.
