If your kids like Mexican, take them here for their birthday. Of course they sing and do the fried ice cream but they add a special touch that is sure to make everyone laugh! The food is excellent and I could easily eat here once a week. It is always my first choice.

Best place ever! Best Mexican food you can find around here. My friends and I always go on Tuesdays -which is half price margarita day. It's perfect.

Can't believe the high ratings... Went a few days ago with a party of 9 for lunch. Service was good once we got the table arrangement settled. They wouldn't let us combine adjacent tables at first because "it's two different servers ". We finally had to combine a long table and a booth which made it very inconvenient for those sitting at the booth table. As for the food: Blech! Salsa was tomato sauce with some pepper sauce added. Fajita taco was bland. Nachos were soggy and the meat was blah with the consistency of dog food. Zero stars for the food, 2 stars for the server who really was pretty good.

We always order out, so I can't comment on the interior or the employees BUT the food is pretty darn good. I always enjoy the steak soft tacos, and quesadillas. they have excellent white cheese dip and chips. They're pretty fairly priced. Every now and then they tend to not listen to the particulars of your order (no beans, no peppers type thing) BUT overall pleasant experiences every time.

This place is close to my brother's house. The family met at his house and went here for a Sunday afternoon get together. There is a smoking section which is rare this time and day. The place was moderately full. Service was prompt and friendly. The place was nicely decorated and appeared very clean. The chips and salsa were good. I ordered the chili poblano and IT WAS A REAL POBLANO PEPPER!!! Not just a bell pepper that I normally find. I got one with an option of steak, chicken or shrimp as the filling for $4. I went with the steak and was very pleased with my choice! There were 6 of us total. We got 2 cheese dips for the table and a variety of meals. There was not a single complaint! My Guy got a taco salad which had to have a pound of ground meat in it!!! We were impressed with the portion sizes. We even got 3 sopapillas for the table. They weren't perfect, but a great finish to the meal. Cute little place in the middle of nowhere!

I love this place! We've been eating here and at the other location in Montevallo for years. Everything is wonderful. My personal favorite are the enchiladas, but you can't go wrong. Also, get the queso! The staff are very helpful and service is usually very prompt even when they are busy.

We eaten @ Zapopan's for years now. Yesterday we picked up some lunch 2 go. We got cheese dip which is excellent & goes well w/their salsa which is spicy but not too much heat, I'd say it is just right. I had the steak quesadilla dinner & the steak was cooked well & very tasty. My hubby got the beef enchilada dinner & 2 crispy tacos. The beef is seasoned well & the toppings r fresh. My only complaint is that they do not give u enough chips & salsa w/a "to go" order & u have 2 order extra & it a little pricey. Our meal cost $31 but it is close 2 our house & the food is good so we will continue to frequent Zapopan's.

We stopped there for lunch today and were very pleasantly surprised --- it looked like a hole in the wall, even had a smoking section but it turned out to be a pearl in the middle of nowhere. They start you with chips and salsa (the salsa has a nice kick but not too stong, just enough to get your attention; very good). The lunch menu was standard for a Mexican restaurant in America - tacos, fajitas, flautas, burritos in all possible combinations. My friend and I both ordered a Taco salad ($5 each). It was on our table within 5 minutes. Surprise #1 --- guacamole was room temp - it was FRESH and tasted awesome! Supripe #2 -- the ground beef was very moist and had nice flavor, didn't taste cheap at all! The taco shell was nice and crisp. The waiter brough us extra sour cream and some jalapenos on the side very promptly which was appreciated. I ended up pouring some of the salsa that came with chips onto my taco salad -- it tasted that good. We were so suprised with the quality of the food, that we ordered mexican flan for desert. I wish it didn't have all that caramel, strawberry juice and cheap coolwhip or smth from that family on top (which I scarped off); the flan by itself was the perfect consistency and very delicious. This place definitely is the best fast Mexican food restaurant I have ever been to! Wish the service was more personable but that's minor, we still left a gracious tip. I will recommend this place to all my friends who are looking for a lunch on the road either before or after passing through Birmingham.

NOT GOOD AT ALL! Food lacks of flavor, and the only fresh lime in the margaritas it's the garnish lime, nothing but mix and im pretty sure they used that cheap montezuma tequila. About the service, we order an apetizer which arrive as a dessert, and the only thing we hear from the waiter was " oh, i'm sorry i forgot", so don't waist your time and money and go somewhere else.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
