Always enjoy coming into the place for a pizza. Tasty, good crust (important to me) and nice staff.

Highly recommended. I went by for lunch on a Saturday and it was during a football game so it was not busy at all. The service was friendly and attentive. I grabbed a seat, ordered and then waited for my pizza. All of the pizzas are named for New York sites so when I saw one with a certain New York site that is no longer visible, I ordered it without question -- it was the most delicious pizza I have ever had. Stop reading and go.

We've just had the Madison Square calzone. We were very hungry and you might think we would eat anything, even if we hated it. Fortunately, the calzone really hit the spot! Great smell and flavor. The marinara sauce was a perfect compliment. The service was friendly. Vickie, our server, helped us know about some of the bars around town we might like. The food took slightly longer than I expected. Starvation probably made me a tad impatient. Prices were reasonable for what we had. Two people, two calzones, drinks, with tip: $28. Check them out, they're good.

Bomb.com This place was excellent. This may be my favorite pizza place in town. It's hard to find great pizza in the south. This place exceeded my expectations. The service was great and the staff was friendly; certainly added to the experience. I had the combo pizza, I believe it's called "the natural...?" I could be mistaken. If I am, its basically a combination pizza without red onions Our second pizza was a Hawaiian. It's not on the menu but you can build your own. It was delicious. Wasn't fresh pineapple, but the crust and sauce make up for it. Overall, great pizza. This place receives 4 stars because it's not to die for. Yes, it's excellent and you wont be disappointed but you wont wake up in the middle of the night wanting more. The beer was served in plastic mugs and wasn't as cold as it could have been. Would I recommend this, absolutely. Would I ask to have it on my death bed, no.

We lived near New York for a few years and was skeptical of NY Pizza. We arrived and the place was a little old and beaten. But still clean. We are seated in a booth and watching the NCAA tourney. We order two pizzas...... World Trade Center and a cheese pizza. We waited for a short bit and then they came out. The pizzas were excellent and the Jalapeños made pizza even finer. No doubt an excellent place to eat. If you are looking for upscale it is not your place.... But if you are looking for quality food..... This fits the bill

I lived in Birmingham when they opened in 82 or so. After a few years I escaped Birmingham. I always remembered the pizza.I always said it was the best. 27 years later i drove my family from Tulsa to eat some New York pizza. My family agreed right away it was the best ever. I never fail to stop when we head to the south for vacation.I get the large pepperoni. Some days are better then others, but I love it. Really not like other pizza places. It is a little shabby in there, but try it. My last one was just covered in pepperoni, not skimpy on toppings.I think I might ask for this on my death bed, provided they get it just right.Their tea is also stellar. You must try this pizza as it is fantastic! Get the pepperoni only. You will be back for more even if it takes 27 years!

I love how the cheese comes close to dripping off the slice as you pull it up away from you. So why the three stars? According to their policy there's actually a lot of limitations you have in trying to customize your order. Since I was ordering a large pizza, I wanted different flavors but no matter how many times I chose something I was told that my combination couldn't be done because those were all items on the specialty menu, despite that they contained all the same condiments in the build-your-own-pizza options. It didn't help either that once I came to a decision, and arrived to pick up my pizza, my order had not been started because they couldn't customize my order again. Therefore, we had to brainstorm more combinations to find something that worked. In the end, I still enjoyed the pesto cheesiness of it all. However, I was aggravated how long it took to get to that point. The restaurant feels kind of grimy and dirty. They have a little arcade on the side. Refrigerator Test: Nasty. Don't leave this in the fridge. It's good if left out for one day but even then, everything is stale and tastes like cardboard.

I have patronized New York Pizza for over 15 years now. I used to order at least once a week when I lived on the south side years ago before they expanded. They were always busy and crowded. Business seems to have slacked off some now, but their pizza are still great. Love the larger restaurant and the staff is always ready to accommodate and please you.

We have been on the hunt for good pizza since moving to the area recently. Unfortunately I think that our search will continue. There was a good selection of toppings and specialty pizza combinations. We decided to try the Southampton pizza with pesto, artichoke hearts, feta, and sundried tomatoes. Flavor was decent but not great. The crust failed to impress. Overall, not a bad place to grab a quick bite if you're in the area, but we won't be going out of our way to go back anytime soon.

Better than the $1 per slice pizza available in New York. Stopped by here with a friend for lunch. The place was pretty empty at noon, which was surprising based on it's location. I ordered a house salad and a small Southampton pizza, which includes: Pesto Sauce, Artichoke Hearts, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Onions, Feta & Parmesan. The salad was unimpressive, just iceberg lettuce and some toppings. The pizza was better than average, but I wouldn't drive out of my way for it. It is better than most other pizza places I have tried in Birmingham though.

I don't know if this is genuine New York-style pizza, but that's because I didn't give it a chance. Let me clarify. I grew up in New Jersey, and I'm VERY particular about my pizza. To me, the word "pizza" means thin, floppy crust; tons of cheese; so much grease that it saturates the cardboard box in spots. If I were on Death Row, that's what I'd request for my last meal: New York-New Jersey-style pizza. The reason I say I didn't give this New York pizza a chance is, I got all healthy and ordered a whole wheat crust pie with goat cheese and feta cheese and extra spinach and garlic and artichoke hearts. The result? A delivery system for cheese and vegetables, and MAN, it was delicious. Next time I come through Birmingham, I'll overcome my health urges & order the traditional style to see how it stacks up against my NJ childhood memories. Bottom line: if you're in Birmingham & want pizza, GET THIS PIZZA! PS, they delivered to my hotel room.

I really had no expectations going into this place. My girlfriend and I just happened to be in the area, and it was one of the only spots available that Sunday that was actually open and serving food. Totally blown away. I ordered the Fire Island Fajita pizza (comes with choice of chorizo, chicken, or steak - I opted for chorizo and it was wonderful), and my girlfriend the Big Apple - both were awesome choices. I think what sold me was the crust is unlike any other pizza place around. And as mentioned by others, no grease either. We were there kind of in between the lunch and dinner crowds so it wasn't busy when we first walked in, but by the time we left the place was getting pretty hectic with everyone there (I believe there was a birthday party beginning to take place of about 20 people) so we were glad to get out of there when we did. Overall, I'm extremely happy I found the spot, and definitely will make this my go to pizza join from now on.

New York Pizza is a great little local pizza shop in the heart of Homewood's Edgewood neighborhood. The decor is simple and is characterized with New York posters and other memorabilia. Service is fast and friendly. The pizza and other Italian specialties are made with fresh ingredients and definitely a few notches above the chain places. My favorite item on the menu is the Madison Square calzone (pepperoni, ham, bacon, and mozzarella). This is large enough for two to split--or one to have plenty to take home for later. The Shea Stadium Steak calzone (steak, onions, peppers, and mozzarella with ranch dressing on the side) is also a good calzone choice. My recommendations for pizza would be the Statue of Liberty (pepperoni, sausage, onions, peppers, and mushrooms) and the Upper East Side (chicken, bacon, mushrooms, and onions with Alfredo sauce). A variety of pastas and salads round out the menu. Prices are very reasonable with most individual calzones, pizzas, and pasta dishes falling in the $10 range. Any one who really likes pizza and Italian food needs to experience this place. Then you'll be saying "Domin-No" and "Pizza What?" And heading for New York Pizza instead!

Food was top notch. The calzone I had was perfectly baked and was a good size for the price. Only draw back was the time it took to get to the table. The place was packed and because the room is so open it was deafening loud. Overall good experience thanks to the delicious food.

I called ahead of time so I wouldn't have to wait long as I only get an hour for lunch. I ordered the Statue of Liberty... Excellent choice!! It was delicious! They have plenty of seating and I really like the tall booths so no one sitting behind you can see the cheese stringing from your mouth after taking a bite..lol. The wait staff were super friendly as well and fixed me a to go drink without asking. A+

Friends brought NY Pizza over to watch the UA LSU game--first time we've had it! Yum! Had the Statue of Liberty and Little Italy. 2 large pizza's, 4 hungry fans. We devoured them--leaving 3 slices of 'leftovers'--I wouldn't be surprised if they were finished off on the drive home ;) I liked the combo on the Statue of Liberty, although I would have enjoyed more mushrooms and green peppers. I loved the sausage --definitely not the little pieces I'm used to finding on the 'chain pizza hut dominos papa johns' pizzas. The Little Italy was a tasty spin on the Margherita. I liked the additional garlic--can't go wrong with that! Love the strip on Oxmoor. While we don't visit often, now I know where we'll grab food if we're hungry!

I'm not sure how a place like this keeps such a prime location in Homewood. I've lived here now for a year and still hadn't eaten at New York Pizza, but had heard the name spoken and passed by a few times. Decided to carry out a pizza today. Ordered a Harlem and I'm glad I didn't even open it until I got home because I'd have been pretty angry at the 25 dollars I spent. The toppings aren't sparse, but not nearly loaded down to the level the price would indicate. The crust was okay, not chewy, not paper-thin, somewhere in between. The sauce though, is awful. Imagine Papa Johns already sweet sauce plus sugar. I won't go back here again. If you're in Homewood and you want to pay for overpriced pizza, drive down to Dave's (especially if its lunch time and the buffet is on).

Statue of Liberty pizza on wheat bread. Pretty good. We substituted the Italian Sausage with Canadian Bacon and that was good. The onions are a bit different here. Lots of onions all over the pizza just draped over the toppings. I think if they had a few less onions that it'll be different. Don't go too close to closing as they try their best to be out on time.

There wasn't a drop of grease on this pizza. I ordered a 16" with banana peppers, spinach, and ground beef, and it was delicious. It was like 2×extra cheese from any other pizza joint, and it came standard at this one. The cost was a little over $26 which hurt my pocket a little until I tried the pizza, and then my husband tried the pizza. Spending too much on overpriced food really burns his butt, but instead, he says we're eating New York Pizza once a month from now on. I am 36.5 weeks pregnant and this pizza's sweet, earthy sauce and crust, even with the peppers didn't give me even a hint of heartburn. From previous reviews by others, I have to say, the pizza reheats quite nicely in the oven at 350°.

First time we went the pizza was good and sauce taste excellent (however the sauce is served cold with bread starters which is strange) . The second time the pizza came out raw and the crust was doughy with the cheese still in refridgerated chunks..... Terrible. So for consistency I would say it's hit or miss.

Great pizza place! Last time I went was back in 2006, when I lived there, so it's been a while, they may have changed the place up a bit. The sauce was great, nice and sweet flavor. Always had a good experience. The inside was kinda generic, hard booths & tables, but the food made up for it. Friendly staff.

This pizza is terrible. Got it delivered to my hotel. It tasted like the delivery guy had bought a pizza from pizza hut, and drove around for an hour before dropping it off. Avoid this place.

great people; however, if you're looking for wide-slice, thin-crust, stringy-cheese, foldable-pizza with a bubbly, toasted crust like what you'd find in NY or NJ, this. ain't. it. we drove from Alabaster (35min drive) for what we thought would be NY-style pizza - OK, but Salvatore's and SanPeggio's are better for THAT style pizza - or any pizza for that matter.. #shouldbecalledHomewoodPizza #notworththedrive

Our Family has a tradition of eating at New York Pizza every Friday night if we are in town. This is simply a delightful neighborhood place which offers outstanding value, great food, a family kid friendly atmosphere but can also be a terrific casual date destination. There is a video arcade room for the kids (and sometimes even a parent or 2). Our favorite server is Amanda. This place is hard to beat! We whole-heartedly recommend NYP!

We met some friends after church Sunday evening at New York Pizza, and we enjoyed it. Pizza for us is often Domino's (no comments from the peanut gallery), but lately we've begun exploring the broader Birmingham pizza scene. The place is pretty spacious and open, with seating split up between booths and tables, and a requisite arcade room in the back corner. The menu has good variety, and their specialty pizzas are creative and tasty. My wife is a calzone fan and thoroughly enjoyed the one she ordered - even better than her typical standby from Mellow Mushroom, which is saying something - and the couple bites I had were good as well. I had the small Statue of Liberty, which was loaded down with deliciousness and was sized like a slightly larger version of a Pizza Hut personal pan pizza. The main downside to my experiences has been the service - while friendly and courteous, it is reeeaally slow...particularly on drink refills. Nonetheless, a solid local pizza spot, and I'm sure we'll be back many more times.

I always order the Statue of Liberty pizza on wheat bread. Eating the pizza there is much better than ordering it to-go. Also, they don't give you a sheet to line the bottom of the pizza box, so your pizza will get stuck to the bottom. I really like the atmosphere and neighborhood.

We met a local here who said this was his favorite pizza place. We agreed. They had a 16" specialty pizza that three of us split. It easily had enough left over for a fourth person. The service was great and non-intrusive. Even though there were TV's in every corner they were not distracting or loud. I will return here.

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

This place has superb pizza! I've had several different pizzas from here and all have been great. They have pizza figured out.
