I travel a lot. A whole lot. I eat a lot of Cracker Barrel because 'no surprise is a good surprise'. I live by this Cracker Barrel and was so happy when they built it. That was then and this review is for now. Like every restaurant in bessemer it started 5 star for its grand opening, but with the Bessemer work force which is as pathetic as work forces get, it has dropped to a graciously awarded 2 star. Service!!! That's what it is missing. Sure the work force is Alabamian which makes it very friendly. Do you want a charming waitress you only see once or twice?? I'd rather have a sour attitude with prompt and frequent service than a smile to go with my empty glass. Last visit in my food was brought, I was asked if there would be anything else, I said "ketchup please", then proceeded to eat my entire meal except the fries cause I never saw her again UNTIL I was done and she brought me the check, still charming mind you. Nice smile is nice, but good service would be far more appreciated. Interestingly, this past summer I had a neighbor for 2 months who got a job at that Cracker Barrel and suddenly opened a Cracker Barrel gift shop from her home. She was giddy as she explained how the waitresses could so easily steal whatever they wanted. Welcome to Bessemer.

I've been to this location a couple of times. Its standard Cracker Barrel food - which is always good / hits the spot. Pecan pancakes and the hashbrown casserole are always delicious. I would prefer actual hot sauce (Tabasco only at a southern restaurant seems wrong) :) WIll be back, of course!

I will give it a two. Just because my sides were good. Chicken was not good by any stretch of the imagination. We had a party of 5 and all complained about their main dishes.

This is a Cracker Barrel. There are many like it but this one is the one that it is. The service and selection is exactly like any other but is no worse than any other. They kept my coffee full and made a passing attempt at poaching an egg. That's about all I could possibly hope for. It did not suck. No one died or had to be hospitalized. So. I guess it's ok to eat here if there's no other option available.

Sad, sad experience today in Bessemer. Stopped in after the football game. Restaurant not even half full. It took longer than expected to even get seated because there was no one at the sign in desk. When we were seated and ordered drinks, the waiter did not bring bread after we ordered our meal. 15 minutes later he came by and we asked for bread again. 5 to 6 minutes we got burnt biscuits that were cold. Another 20 or so minutes went by with no food, others around us were eating. The waiter told us they were busy. Yes, he said they were busy. After another extended lull, he came by and told us our order had gotten lost because there was only one cook in the back. We asked for the check for the tea and diet coke, and he graciously (she said sarcastically) that HE wouldn't charge us for it. Never did he apologize or even attempt to make nice. Sorry. The Cracker Barrel in Bessemer, Alabama will not be visited by us again.

I've never been to a Cracker Barrel until some friends brought me here for lunch. Hey, I'm from the west coast! This place had a country store as you entere (restaurant towards the back) which was quite charming. The food portions are huge and the servers were very nice. I had a chicken salad which was great. They seem to serve breakfast all day. The restaurant was very nice and clean. If you're up for a good value meal on the road, I would highly recommend a Cracker Barrel.
