One of three good Mexican restaurants in Auburn. Highly recommended. Helps if you can speak Spanish.

Let me just start off with this: I am from the west (tons of Mexicans/Hispanics) and my wife is from Mexico. We ate here this last week. I recommend the torta cubana and the taco meats are pretty good. The good: Gabby took our order and she was really nice and friendly. Great service from her. We ordered tacos with asada and Al pastor, they were good with lots of meat, which was well-cooked. They gave us lots of avocado with one of our meals-that was nice. The torta cubana was really big and filling, no complaints here. The bad: the horchata and mango water was just made from a powder mix (probably Klass) and the horchata tasted like it had been there for a week or two as it was somewhat rancid tasting; my advice, don't order horchata, it's not legit. The tortillas that came with the tacos are not authentic and seem to come from Walmart, not good at all. We had a special order and when the cook didn't do it right, she was unwilling to correct her mistake and seemed very angry, great way to lose customers. My suggestion is that they either order better tortillas or make their own, (takes literally 2 seconds), and that they make some real horchata.

Pretty much every "Mexican" restaurant I've been to in Auburn is crap. Americanized garbage. La Plaza is the best, most authentic place in town. This little place gets lost in the Winn Dixie shopping center, but that's ok, more for me. They have a small, no frills menu of deliciousness. My favorite is barbacoa everything. And the horchata!!!! They have horchata!! The place is on the grungy side, but like I said, it's authentic. Takes me back to the little places in Houston and Corpus Christi, Tx that I ate at as a kid. The workers are ALWAYS super friendly, and I usually confuse the other customers (I'm the whitest Mexican you will ever meet) when I order in Spanish. That's fun :) The experience doesn't end there, when your done and are at the register (on the market side) there is a basket of treats for sale, they have leche quemada!!!! It's a milk based candy bar with pecans, buy it. All of it. It will rock your world. La Plaza, thanks for being there for me when I need a little taste of home.

This is a great taqueria. The barbacoa is outstanding! I lived in New Mexico and Texas for 15 years total and have missed taquerias. This and Durangos on Dean are both great, unlike most of the other so-called Mexican restaurants in town.

This Mexican restaurant looks scary on the outside, but authentic on the inside. I felt kind of scared walking in here because it felt like I was walking into a scary liquor store out in the middle of nowhere, but the employees are really sweet. It has an accompanying grocery section with authentic imported groceries, pastries, and delights. The restaurant seats and tables are dirty but the menu is as authentic as you can get. I have yet to see another Mexican restaurant in Auburn have chorizo or carnitas so you could imagine how thrilled I was to see those two options on the menu. I ordered the pork carnitas quesadilla. It was plump, soft, and warm and everything you'd want in nearly a meaty flat Mexican burger.

This place is a Hispanic store with a little restaurant inside. It doesn't look the best, but the people are friendly and the food is great. I've been there at least twice and have gotten the marinated pork taco both times. It's an authentic Hispanic restaurant so you have to ask for cheese if you want it (which I did). The taco (which uses two corn tortillas) is big and so, so good. I got that, a side of rice, and an ice water with lime for less than four dollars. I want to try other things there, but I'm just stuck on that taco. It's so good! Definitely plan to go back. :)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
