Superb food, delicious coffee and absolutely wonderful customer service!

Great locally roasted coffee and friendly service. Lots of specialty coffee drinks to be had as well. They were busy this morning for breakfast but managed to get our orders or quickly. I liked that we were able to customize each of our breakfast sandwiches based in some dietary restrictions as none of them were pre-made. We were big fans of the free Wi-Fi and the comfy couches and ample seating. The prices were reasonable compared to the higher rates for everything here in Seward. We would pay them a return visit. (Bonus: they have free movie nights from time to time on their projector screen!)

The food here is good but the wait is not worth it. It took nearly 45 minutes to get our food today and we are not the only ones waiting this long. After all that my husband was given the wrong thing. We didn't bother to complain since we couldn't wait around for the correct one. Last time we were here was slow too. Also the attitude of the girls at the counter both times have been pretty nasty. Today we listened to the girl be snarky and rude to the guy cooking. We won't be back. Not a good vibe here at all.

The black bean burger was great. The focaccia bread was great. The lady behind the counter seemed profoundly disappointed in the life she has built for herself. The bathroom was clean. The first aid kit in the kitchen is visible from the farthest back table.

Very nice atmosphere, the coffee was delicious! We would have been happy with a little more selection in the food area, as simple as being able to get some plain eggs would've been nice. The wifi is slow, the ambient music is very pleasant, the staff and service on both of our visits were very kind, smiling, and helpful.

I would not recommend this place for coffee or service. I had a very rude waitress behind the counter and my latte was weirdly sweet even though I requested no sweetener. The only good thing about it is the playlist and the free WiFi.

We camped overnight nearby and walked downtown for a cup of coffee and a pastry. Bought the only pastry that was made in house- as mentioned by the grumpy cashier- but it was horrible! They called it a cookie tart and cost $4 but it tasted and crumbled like over sugared, uncooked cookie dough. And the muffins offered were from Costco... "Literally" said the grumpy cashier. Apparently the coffee beans are organic and local but not very tasty. It's such a bummer to come to a fun little AK town and not be able to find a good baked goods and coffee joint. This shop was plenty spacious and had lots of seating but lacked the good foods, coffee, and friendly barista that would have garnered a 4-5 star review.

Comfortable seating and free wifi with plugins for computer and phones. We had Americanos when we first arrived and they were delicious. Later while waiting for our hotel check in time we had paninis and they were just as good as the coffee! They also offered smoothies and other sandwich options. The laid back atmosphere was just what we were looking for!

Went with a group of four for breakfast. Everyone loved their burritos and sandwiches. Friendly, helpful staff!

I wish I could transplant the Sea Bean to the lower 48! The Sea Bean had fantastic drinks, wonderful inventive panini combinations, delicious baked goods, and a very pleasant atmosphere that seems conducive to productive work. I would gladly stop in again.

I popped in here to escape the rain. It's a cute spot to feed your caffeine addiction, check your email, and chat with the other tourists. They have a selection of drinks and snacks that's far superior to what I was expecting, considering it's at the ends of the earth.

  • Adrian L.

Rip Off Alert, the coffee there was always more expensive but last time the come up with ridiculous price for Vanilla Latte. I asked why? I turns out that now the charge for vanilla syrup $1.50 Thats insulting ! Embarrassing for the hotel next door, i wonder if the business is connected?

I've been to the Sea Bean every morning for the past 4 days. Each time I walk in here is what I have come to expect: decent coffee served by frazzled, inefficient but friendly staff. The lattes and coffees are great! And their prices are Seward friendly (read: expensive in life but inexpensive for this town). The ordering process at the front seems a bit inefficient but that may be due to the fact that they are serving up my first coffee of the day as opposed to lucky winner #2 or #3. There is just something off about the ordering and serving here. The cashier just seems frazzled regardless of whether or not I order a simple coffee or a host of items. The free wi-fi and plethora of free coffee house entertainment is just perfect. Along one wall you will find every National Geographic published in the past 5 years, a quaint chessboard, and a lounge seating area perfect for giving your feet a rest before the wondrous day ahead of you. A testament to their great coffee with a quant ambiance: this place is never less than half full and is populated with tourists from around the world. Thankfully caffeine is a universal language :)

The sea bean used to be my favorite place for coffee until a few months ago when they gained a new manager. Not only is she rude and lacking in customer service skills, she absolutely zero coffee skills. Her shots are always sloppily made and consistently taste burnt. I am so disappointed in a place that I once loved.

Good food ( sandwich n coffee ) and relaxing ambiance. Slow down and smell your coffee, this place ia to be enjoyed by spending some time :)

I stopped for a coffee after the long but gorgeous drive from Anchorage to Seward. It was a nice place to just stop for a moment, drink my black cherry mocha (yum!), write a postcard, and view the cute little historic downtown. Two thumbs up!

  • Cammy Q.

Good coffee for a touristy town. I had the veggie panini, which was pretty decent but probably the wrong choice because the veggies weren't very fresh. I'd come back if I ever find myself in Seward again!

  • Mira S.

Cute coffee shop with sandwiches and ice cream. It feels like a san francisco place, with chill pop music, wooden tables, couches, and a really impressive selection if interesting and delicious teas. The focaccia they use for the panini is really great, but the rest of the Ingredients are pretty blah, and it's far from the best sandwich I've had (in the past 3 days). The staff was all really nice, and willing to indulge me with a tea latte during my several visits. They have one soup daily, which I tried on one of my visits, and was satisfied with the tomato florentine. The ice cream is dreyer's. They also do shakes and banana splits.

Really glad I found this place while I was frantically trying to find a shower after camping out on the Resurrection River for a few days. Not that they had a shower, but they do have some awesome lunch choices and good coffee. I got the Mayflower.. a panini with turkey, bacon, lettuce, cream cheese, and cranberry sauce. It was too good not to eat the whole freaking thing. They have free wi-fi and there is a ton of comfortable seating and outlets for your computer! The only downside, and I don't know if this is a common thing, but they ran out of a lot of stuff early in the day so I was constantly hearing the barista apologize to customers about being out of certain things (not enough orange juice for a smoothie, no pennies, etc). She made it work but it always sucks for employees and customers to be in that position. Definitely recommend!

  • Sukirti S.

Pretty healthy paninis offered in large portions. We had a black bean burger that was so filling after a long tiring day. Coffee was also good very strong and intense. Aroma of coffee in the air makes you want more!! Heaven in Seward!

  • Swavino T.

This is a great, independent coffee shop with lunch items. Service was very good and quite efficient. Would definitely recommend the soup. The sandwiches were okay the bread was a little too thick for my liking. Great place to relax and use your smart devices as they have free Wi-Fi. When you think about the logistics of running a place like this given the distance from Anchorage Alaska they're doing a phenomenal job here.

  • Callib C.

The sea bean is an awesome place, as far as looks and the setting. However for me the coffee wasnt anything special. It was just regular coffee in comparison to most indie style coffee houses. Ive had three or four different types of their coffee and might try a few more in the future. Everyone there is nice and the service is great otherwise.

  • Lauren S.

Yummy food and drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. There are tons of seating available, books, games and the world's largest collection of national geographic magazines! I was reading some from the 60's and could have stayed there all day!

  • Laura G.

I loved relaxing in this place. They had wifi available as well as a computer set up in the corner (a saving grace for those of us who are smart phone hold outs). It was a cozy place where we could sit and relax without feeling like we were imposing. The sandwiches were good, but not quite good enough for a 5 star rating. I had a ham and macaroni and cheese sandwich. They had a wonderful selection of coffee drinks. I only like crappy Starbucksesque concoctions so have opinion on the quality of the actual coffee. One downside is that, although they advertise being open later than surrounding businesses, it is unclear when the kitchen closes. The customer behind looked at the sandwich menu and asked when they closed. He was told the closing time, but not when they . When he returned 15 minutes later, the server told him that the kitchen was closed. I'm doubting his experience was as pleasant as ours.

Lousy lattes and coffee, even worse service. Breakfast was mega $$ and relatively decent, but nothing to write home about. Seriously disappointing after all the great reviews I read! The milk for the lattes was scalding hot and way over foamed and the shots were burned- not to mention only one shot for a 12oz latte- too milky! The girl who took our orders was so flustered and disorganized and seemed to be fighting with the guy making the food. Neither one seemed happy to see paying customers. Also, not their fault but it ruined the tiny bit of ambiance that was left in the joint- some oblivious customer was shouting on his phone the whole time we were sitting there eating. Totally turned off by this place.

  • Ashley L.

We loved Sea Bean!!! It was nice to find a place in town with vegetarian breakfast items. We ordered the cereal with soy milk. For a five dollar bowl of cereal there definitely could have been more in the bowl. We also ordered the veggie wrap. The wrap was very good and the vegetables were fresh. Coffee was excellent. There were also vegan pastry options which we thought was great. Very clean and cozy.

  • R J.

Wait 30 minutes for a sandwich when there were only two customers. When I sake about my order, apparently, it was not placed. Will not go ever, very bad service.

  • Aleksandra H.

Loved the atmosphere. They serve a good breakfast. I recommend drip coffee. Their lattes are wayy to sweet-- that or the admittedly hungover barista was wayy too hungover. Popular for tourists and locals. We saw local business owners and sea life center employees getting their morning buzz.

I stopped by for what I thought would be a quick lunch & some coffee. This place is anything but quick. The service is a bit slow even if there was only one barista; the place wasn't packed nor were the other patrons orderings. I think most come to hang out or use the wi-fi. I ordered a minty madame and croissant BLT & veggie barley soup. My drink wasn't even warm :( Bummer cuz I was looking forward to a hot drink on a cold windy day. About 25-30 minutes later my sandwich came out. I think they were curing my bacon in the back or something. The sandwich itself was pretty good :) But the soup was meh. Didn't think you could mess up veggie barley soup but apparently you can make it taste bland. I'd come back again for a small casual lunch, but not with the expectations of a quick lunch. I may pass on the coffee the next time as well.

Pros: Convenient, clean, chill music, good atmosphere. Cons: Poor service, bad tea, and decent food. My family and I traveled to Seward for a little get away, after all of the good reviews on Yelp, we decided to give Sea Bean a try. We went for lunch at about 12 pm, on 8.11.12, the place was not busy, there were only about two tables filled. We sat down at a table, we were waiting for one more person to arrive. When she arrived we went to the counter to order. We were never greeted. The Barista just stood there and stared at us. We all ordered, there were four of us, I ordered a cup of tea, she asked what size, then no other questions. I asked her if I just needed to tell her what kind of tea I wanted, she stated 'pick it out and hand me the canister', mind you, there were right by her 'coffee machine'. I did so. Again, no acknowledgement, nothing. Just attitude. She brought me my tea, the water was so hot, that I have a blister on the top of my mouth, and the tea was bitter, and scalded. So I threw it in the trash. Our panini's were ok. I decided on the Sea Bean, because someone had stated there were good 'vegetarian' options. There was a veggie panini, so I ordered it. The avocado wasn't ripe, it was like biting into an apple. The 'barista/waitress' that we had the pleasure of encountering before, gave us our food, the first two came out, she just set them in the middle of the table, and disappeared. No silverware, nothing. We had to wait about 10 minutes for our second two panini's to arrive, no apology, nothing, just set them on the table and left. In summary: Food was just decent, service was poor, and the tea was horrible. I will not be returning. I'll just go across the street to The Ranting Raven for our tea and lunch.

The good: atmosphere, location, music, seating, WI-FI The bad: Drinks are sub-par. I had the Minty Madam. For a $4 small drink, I couldn't taste any peppermint at all. I had to go back and ask for an extra. My "other" had a blended iced mocha. It tasted like straight chocolate syrup. Wheres the coffee? I felt like the coffee shop itself had a slightly pretentious tone to it with less than friendly baristas. Though, they weren't un-friendly, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Would I go back... no probably not, there are many other coffee shops in Seward!

3+. I loved the posters they had hanging in the walls, and the general ambiance of the place. I just tried a latte (not great, not awful), and a muffin (not great, not awful). Seems like a nice hangout.

I stopped by here not so much because I wanted coffee, but because I had already bookmarked it on Yelp when planning the trip to Seward. No regrets! The drinks were very good and I was impressed by the tea selection. While waiting for our order we got to talking with the woman working here an she said the cafe is open all year round. Sounds like a reliable spot with good tea and coffee and treats that looked oh so good! There's also wifi; I didn't use it, but it looked like people were pretty productive with it in the cafe.

Food was delicious, but the service wasn't spectacular. There was no sense of urgency whatsoever. I was in town at the same time as a cruise liner and there were about 20 people in there...not one of them speaking to anyone else. Weird.

  • andy r.

Great place for day-trippers to take a break, sit down in comfort (sofas or tables) have a coffee, lunch, check out your email or internet. Home away from home. We got off our cruise in Seward, dropped our luggage at the train station and headed downtown on the free bus. Sea Bean is just up the street from the aquarium (SeaLife Center). We tried eating somewhere else but after 10 minutes of being ignored we went to Sea Bean and immediate service and never hassled after resting for half an hour before continuing our explorations in Seward. Nice town with friendly people even with all the cruise invaders they deal with.

Stopped here many times for a coffee or sandwich while I was visiting Seward. I love the decor and ambiance of the cafe, as you feel like you can really relax and sit and read a book or magazine. It's also very rustic feeling, which I love. They have a healthy choice of coffees and teas, and the sandwiches were great. Most of all, the people were super friendly. I like when I'm traveling to go into local places and sit and talk with the people there. The people working would chat with me when they weren't busy and were very nice. They also have wifi for you travellers needing a place to get online in the sticks!

We're traveling full time with two kids and trying to run a foundation as we go, so we spend a lot of time in coffee shops with free WiFi, all over the world. The Sea Bean in Seward is one of the best. The coffee was delicious, the food fresh, conscientious and interesting. Best of all the couple who run the place are delightful and seem to be more central to the Seward community than the mayor. We went here every morning for several days and were delighted to be welcomed as a part of their community so quickly. So, if you are going to the Kenai Peninsula, in Alaska, and you're looking for a nice place to relax for a few hours... be sure to stop by the comfy couches at 'the bean, and say hi for us.

Can't beat it for coffee in Seward. Great place to lounge and enjoy your coffee or tea. The have at least 30 teas to try. The Coconut Pouchong tea was great. I also had the Pieces of Eight coffee drink with soy and it was great. The place has about 6 couches and lots of tables and chairs. A great hang out/meeting place for everyone. Come in and listen to the boat captains and crew and listen to the stories. We'll be back for sure.

Sea Bean is a pleasant place to grab your caffeinated beverage and a light breakfast-snack before starting your long tourist day. The locals like it, too--evidenced by the many people who were coming in and out for the coffee and the couple of groups who were congregating in the Sea Bean on a weekday morning. Run by a very nice young couple who seemed to know all the regulars. Nice place, give them your business if you find yourself in Seward.

Funky and about to undergo a revamp, the Sea Bean is the type of coffee shop I wish I could find in SoCal. The Moonlight coffee drink is yummy and I'm thinking about trying it frozen this summer when I come back. My barista was the opposite of Starbucks expedient, but there's no rush in a sleepy town like Seward and I like that. :)

  • Angela B.

We had excellent coffee here every day we were in Seward. Not that we ever really took advantage of it, but the place is full of big, cushy chairs & couches & a ton of random books for lounging in them with. There was definitely a trendy-hip-indie-type-young folks vibe about the place, which was kind of nice after a lot of other coffee houses we'd been to. They also have panini sandwiches, which we got one day to take on a cruise for lunch. Quite tasty! And at $6 each, quite reasonably priced. My only complaint was that they took about 20 minutes to make.

Good coffee, but not a very relaxing atmosphere during the summer. Too many tourists make it very noisy.

  • Chelsi S.

I stumbled upon this place with my boyfriend while camping in Seward. It's always going to be a favorite of mine now. Their coffee is really tasty and I love the specialty drink names. Their tea selection is amazing, I love Golden Moon, especially the chai. Also, the Breakfast Panini is the item to order. The herbed bread they use for it is awesome. The atmosphere is super cozy and I love the sea theme and eccentricities of this place. That is all. Just a really nice place.

Vegan and gluten free options! Me and a mate spend a handful of days in Seward and we visited The Sea Bean Cafe each day for food, drinks or a combination of the two. As the motto says on the window: sit, sip, surf; this place is causal, warm, inviting and hits the spot every time. Frequented by locals and tourists alike, it's small, but option-filled menu is what kept us coming back. Their coffee beans are roasted locally especially for them and 100% organic (always a plus). They make the usually espresso drinks but also have several specialties, and if coffee ain't your thing, well they have an entire wall of loose leaf tea to choose from. Their food options are simple but delicious. Breakfast could be a muffin, bagel, smoothie, oatmeal or the like. Lunch/early dinner there are several paninis to choose from as well as the build your own option. Best part, for me, they have vegan options! For drinks, get your latte made with soy or coconut milk and for food, bagel, oatmeal, black bean burger or veggie sammie. Plus both their tarts are vegan AND gluten free. They also have gluten free bread as an option for the paninis!

slowest service ever! Waited 20 plus minutes when no one else was in front of us... While the guy at the counter chatted the whole time with a friend... And they messed up on my order!

If you're coming off a cruiseship in Seward and you need fast internet and good coffee then this is the place to be. Had a great latte and sat down for an hour and enjoyed their fast internet, over 2Mbs. Yes, you heard right, an internet cafe in Alaska that actually provides reliable internet access.

  • Celeste L.

The Sea Bean is a very sweet, convenient coffee shop right on the main drag of Seward's downtown strip. While their food isn't anything to write home about, the coffee is all fair trade, the tea selection is impressive, and convenience of surfing the internet while sipping a coffee (or usually yerba mate in my case) in a shop can feel like pure bliss sometimes in rural Alaska. The great thing about the Sea Bean is that they're open year round, serving coffee and charm to us locals long after the other coffee shops have lifted stakes and closed their doors until the tourists come back. The owners of the coffee shop and apartments above & behind (Sauerdough Lodging) are great people and so fun to chat with. They were my landlords too! Summer Suggestions: If you want better food try: The Ranting Raven Coffee Shop If you want better browsing try: Resurrect Art Coffee Shop But if you want the internet, stay at the Sea Bean!

Best Sandwiches in Alaska! I had the mayflower (turkey cranberry) and my wife had the black bean burger, on gluten free bread! They have a variety of gluten free and vegan options. (rare in alaska) This is my new Seward spot.

Great tea selection at an even better price. Coffee as well as various wraps and treats also available. Great cafe atmosphere to wait out the rain in and super friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Excellent coffee, great Paninis, lounging couches, plenty of tables, Free Wireless Internet, Mac computers, right downtown, good view of the Mt. Alice, clean, friendly, and a nice vibe! They also looked like they had a great Tea selection, ice cream and good sandwiches. The waffles were basic and it sounded like the oatmeal and bagels were too but at least you have those options. Good locals scene as well as tourists. Favorite spot in Seward by far, we hit it all three days we were there.

When I was there they bearly opened the place up. It was a great place from what I remember. As soon as you step in it feels very confortable and they offer wi-fi and Mac computers to check your e-mail. I use to hang out there quite often when I was there for the summer. The staff was super chill as well.
