I've been to Seward many, many times but this is my first opportunity to stay at Sauerdough Lodging. We stayed in their Sunrise Suite, which is aptly named. Watching the sun come up over the mountains and stream through all the beautiful windows has been a highlight of the trip. The suite is large and very comfortable. The owners have done a wonderful job of blending the quaint historical elements with modern comforts. This place used to be a brothel way back in the day. It's not even a block from the SeaLife Center and right by lots of shops. Looking forward to just walking downstairs for breakfast at the Sea Bean Cafe.

This place was AMAZING! It seriously felt like home! We stayed in "The Sleeper" which was a nice studio apartment that has been completely remodeled but still has the older touches. We came to find out it was a brothel in the 20's! Pros: -Location (near an aquarium, the water, shops and food!) -Cleanliness -Friendly Staff (they also work downstairs in the coffee shop) -Perks: coupons, $5 each to the coffee shop -Internet, TV, Netflix, ect. -HUGE bathroom! Cons: -Only a few rooms I can see it filling up fast! But literally there are no cons, that's all i could come up with. :)

I would personally like to thank Matt and Meredith, I was in Seward this past weekend and I truly fell in love with this quaint town. I told my significant other that we're retiring there and he said, "only if we can live at the Sauerdough:)." It was like heaven staying there, we stayed in the Sunrise Suite and every detail of the place was exquisite. I felt like I had traveled back to the East Coast, the decor was phenomenal and let me tell you about the breathtaking view of the ocean and mountains from the bedroom and living room windows. I would recommend this place to any ages, and for any activities that you're going down for; whether it's you and the loved one, family trip or a group of friends. There's a full kitchen, bath, living and dining room as well as the bedroom that you enter through gorgeous french doors. I also have to throw in that The Sea Bean Cafe is downstairs, owned by the same wonderful couple, and they have superb food and a very relaxing environment.

If you want a historic Seward experience, the Sauerdough must be #1. (If you want modern plush, we ask, "Why?) Do not confuse the spelling of sauerdough. This downtown hotel survived the 1964 earthquake. The owners knew that "survived" did not mean welcoming. They retained the stoiries within the walls, added whimsy, then made the rooms spotless. Room # 5 will make you smile. Claw foot tub, well stocked kitchenette with special coffee from Sea & Bean, and a loud hint of Minnie Mouse will make you smile, too. Restaurants, gift shops, free transportation from the school bus and the marine museum...for us, nothing could be better. The downstairs Sea & Bean will fill you with breakfast and lunch delights. One star for excellent location and another for the history of the building. As another reviewer said the walls are thin, so you will most certainly hear others. Though the decor has a certain charm, it is still a bit run down and smells musty (more in the hallways than in the room thankfully). Our room (#2) was very stuffy and we were unable to open all the windows. There is also a giant mirror in the bathroom that sits at a very creeptastic (permanent) angle toward the toilet. I know this building used to be a brothel but I'm not a kinky girl like that. The footed tub is neat to see but not very practical at all, and the kitchen space is lilliputian. It was fine for a night, but I was happy it was only one night. It was also pricey for what it is.

The bed was bad and the walls were thin, but other that it was a cute place and it was well kept. not a bad option for a small town like Seward.
