The for sale signs should have been my warning. I went there because it had been recommended, plus was where my boat tour met the day before. I was immediately confronted by dazed and lackadaisical service. Employee number one seemed confused at the idea of taking my pastry order. Employee number two huffed and puffed about making me chai, whining about how she wanted to sleep. The apparent boss was too busy worrying about her own personal comfort by sass ing employee number one about opening more windows, and ignored two customers (including myself) trying to pay. Never a good sign when the boss is more worried about their personal comfort than getting paid. The food was just acceptable. My cheese bear claw was doughy, bland, and had apples in it, which wasn't a good combination. I threw most of it away. Bear claws are pastries...not Stromboli. My peanut butter cookie tasted fine, but was rock hard. I don't doubt that this was once a good bakery...and maybe on most days it still is, but I think things have gone downhill since many of the glowing reviews were written. Shame, too, as the location is wonderful. Would I recommend them? Maybe. Their prices are very fair, so if you just need something reasonably quick at the public pier and they are still open, go ahead and grab some cookies or something for your boat tour. Just don't expect a culinary experience.

Crap crap crap crap crap and more crap. Rude, crappy service. Gross, crapy sandwiches and bread. I thought it was supposed to be a bakery with their own bread or something. I mean cause that would make sense, but it's crappy store bought bread. Maybe it's organic?? The pastries are not very good. I can go to a grocery store and get better. Save your money and go somewhere else where you won't walk out feeling like crap. The girl taking orders today was rude as crap to my husband and kids. Just so unprofessional and hope the owner sees this and does something about it. Restaurants should Take pride in their food and service and this place certainly did not.

Two star because there wasn't a toenail in my soup. I ordered Turkey and Cranberry Sandwhich on Sourdough /w soup. Bread was flimsy and bland from a cheap grocery shelf, cheese was a heavily processed cheddar slab, soup was out of a can.. You're far better off going to subway around the corner. In fact I'd make it 1 star...

We'd been instructed to meet here by the company doing our wildlife/glacier excursion, so we had breakfast here as well. I had a raspberry muffin; husband had a cinnamon roll. My muffin was quite good, nice and moist. Husband said his cinnamon roll was stale and tasted like it had been out for a couple days. The wildlife/glacier excursion was excellent, by the way.

Location is the only reason this place stays in business. Slow service. Ordered a quiche slice and cinnamon roll to go. Asked for the quiche warmed up. Waited for 5 minutes, all the employees doing "busy" work, while customers waited. Finally another customer wanted something warmed up, so my quiche, which was in there still, came out and sat there. Another worker grabbed it and was going to bring it out to a table. The rather large lady at the register barked at her that she didn't know who it was for. I told her it was mine, and to go. She put it in a box and gave it to me. I told her I ordered a cinnamon roll as we'll. she asked if I wanted heated up. I told her I didn't have another 10 minutes to wait. I also ordered a decaf mocha, the clerk said they don't have decaf in their specialty drinks. The only reason I ended up here is because the Ranting Raven doesn't open until 9.

Hasn't been good since it went up for sale. Used to be a great spot for a bite or a good cup of coffee. Now they serve doughy pastries burnt tasteless sand witches and the weakest cup of coffee on the Seward strip. Avoid the brownies, they were nearly raw covered with a poorly mixed frosting on my LAST visit.

We stopped here to eat lunch before heading back to Anchorage. Besides pastries they also served sandwiches and hamburgers. I had the BLT and added turkey to it. The nice girl working there later informed me that they ran out of bacon, made it just using turkey and even game me some money back. I was surprised. The sandwich was excellent and included French fries. The place seemed very busy and only open in the morning and closes sometime after lunch. Good place to get breakfast before heading to your glacier cruise.

Perhaps if we had stopped at the counter displaying the baked goods we would have been OK. Nope - that did not happen. We ordered the standard eggs, sausage and potatoes for breakfast. It was a mistake - should and coulda gone to the Smoke Shack for breakfast done right. The potatoes were cold & tasteless, the sausage was just OK, the bacon was less than OK and my wife's eggs were not cooked as ordered. The worst thing was they served wheat toast that must have been purchased from the Safeway store up the street. It is a "BAKERY" - - - they couldn't figure out how to serve up some toast that would make me forget I had eggs & sausage???

Burnt sausage on my breakfast biscuit. Tasteless sandwich. Yuck! Threw it out after 2 bites!

It was very busy on a rainy Monday morning when we got there. Had toasted bagles with cream cheese and those were just amazing. They baked goods looked fantastic too, but we didn't try any.

This is the place where my addiction to Nanaimo bars first began. They don't have them available all the time but I believe a few times a week. They have a lot of good stuff on the menu but the Nanaimo bars are the the absolute best. If you make it in, have one for me. :D
