Four stars for food, and two stars for service = an average of 3-stars. I ate at the Gold Room at the end of a week long business trip. I really enjoy seafood and thought that the dishes offered looked over complicated, but was happy to try something new. Especially after hearing great reviews from others in town. I ordered a great soup and enjoyed it, then moved onto scallops. The scallops were cooked well and I appreciated the fact that I could order a half portion. Service however was nonexistant. We saw him once in a while and each time he left the kitchen or back areas he was chewing or kind of cleaning out his mouth. So apparently our dinner interrupted his break/dinner. The food was good, but there are far better places with better service in Juneau.

Gold Room Restaurant was visited during a Thanksgiving holiday and I didn't want to have turkey. They had Duck L'Orange leg dinner for around USD 25. I was pleased with their dinner. Who said you have to have turkey for a Thanksgiving dinner, not me.

All three of us had the the 12 oz prime rib. All were good with the horseradish cream having a very unique taste that i enjoyed. The french onion soup I had, was bland and lacking flavor. The place itself was dark with an very old time look about it. Our table cloth had some nice stains on it and the back lit menus were just cheesy. The The big mirror on the wall made the place scream to have a big old dark mahogany bar in there instead of a restaurant. I would loved to eat a nice juicy cheeseburger in a place like that. I don't think I'll be eating here again. The place was pretty forgettable.

I have come here periodically over the decades when I want to celebrate something really special - usually a family get together. I have always found the food outstanding. The waiters may not be as polished as in New York or San Francisco but their service has always been excellent, and their hearts have always been in the right place. This is definitely an heirloom Alaskan restaurant - old, fancy, a little dark, with our most famous artists' paintings on the walls. Outstanding wine list. A restaurant suitable for our state capital and reminiscent of our past. I love this old restaurant!

I've been to the Gold Room twice. The first time I was fairly inebriated. The second time I wasn't. The first time I thought it was great. The second time I didn't. Those two things may not be related, it could have been a bad night the second time or a different chef or something. Regardless, I don't think I'll continue recommending this restaurant to people. The stag carpaccio was interesting and worth getting. The calimari wasn't good at all, the problem being the breading. It was like it had bread crumbs in it and the bread crumbs were overdone and excessively crunchy, while the remainder of the breading was a little on the soggy side. I've had far better calimari for 9 bucks at an Italian chain. The lobster bisque had good flavor but was overseasoned. The caribou entree was a pretty big disappointment. The potatoes were fairly bland. One of the caribou medallions was gamy, and the other wasn't. I don't really have a problem with gamy meat but the inconsistency struck me as odd. The sauce seemed like a halfhearted attempt to "classy up" barbecue sauce, and it just wasn't that good. I didn't see any sign of morels anywhere either, visually or by taste. The other diners I was with weren't impressed either, they both had the halibut and both said they can make better at home. I would give them 2 stars for my last meal there, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that my first meal wasn't a fluke, so 3 stars. And to the guy above, not much to do or see in Juneau? Are you nuts? Mendenhall glacier, Tracey arm, Ford's terror, bears, bald eagles, the tramway, helicopter tours, dogsled tours, floatplan to taku lodge for dinner, whale watching, rain forest tours, downtown, hundreds of miles of hiking trails, kayaking, mine tours, fishing. I could go on.

I do not think regular yelpers will causally come across this place, unless you are off a cruise boat @ Juneau. This day we were craving for Alaskan King Crab Legs but our Celebrity Cruise just won't offer King Crab Legs in the dining room. So as soon as we get off the ship, we asked local people where to get the freshest and tastiest King Crab Legs. They pointed us to Westmark Baranof Hotel (not far from the port). The dining room has great ambience for a romantic dinner, or private dining rooms for parties like my entire family. Their Crab Legs were HUGE. Each leg is more than two feet long. No KIDDING. 13 out of 14 of us ordered the Crab Leg main dish ($29.99) which has 3 long legs. I think at the end only the guys can finish the whole dish, while the ladies had to struggle to finish. At the end we took 2-3 left-over legs to show off to other cruise guests:p Salads & other appertizers are all mouth-watering. Salmon and Halibut were all fresh catches and seared to perfection. Servers were attentive and friendly. Definitely go to here if you are in Jeneau one day for whatever reason.

Went here for our recent anniversary. Our waiter was a little disrespectful and drinks took a while to come out, however food was the best by Juneau standards. We ordered the filet mignon and prime rib special which were both cooked as requested and tasted EXCELLENT. Creme brule was better than I have had in the lower 48. Topping was crunchy and cream was nice and cold!

The only reason most people go to Juneau is that it is a port of call on most of the cruises to Alaska. Not much to do or see in Juneau, and the downtown business district is "Kolondikeville USA". Having been to Juneau way too many times for business, I usually ask the locals where's the best place to eat, for some reason the people in this town think the best place to eat is along the waterfront...NOT!!! One of hte fllight attendents on Alaska Airlines a few years back suggested i try the Dining Room at the Baranof Hotel. This is a Westmark Hotel Property, and really the nicest place in all of Juneau. the dining room has that old Private Club feel to it. This is the nicest dining experinece you can have in Juneau. the service is excellent, the food aboslutely outstanding,...the crab legs come out on a platter they have to be at least 30" long....absolutely unbeliveable... another good choice here is the Alaskan Halibut... If you happen to end up in Juneau for god know's what reason, walk over to the Baranof and head straight to their dining room...

The food is decent but the service is terrible. There was literally one other table in the restaurant with us and it took forever to get service and food. My husband's steak was overdone and my steak was underdone. Also, they play really bad elevator music. That place is like straight out of the 90's, in a bad way.

Pricey, tiny portions, and mediocre service. This is one of the better restaurants around here but definitely cannot be compared with restaurants in San Francisco or San Diego.

Went for dinner here my first night in Juneau. Crab Cakes were delicious. The portions were a bit small and they were served over a green salad (weird). For the entree, had the halibut stuffed with crab. The crab was rubbery and the fish seemed as if it was over cooked. Was in a weird tasting sauce as well. I wish that more restaurants would keep fish dishes simple. To finish, I had the brûlée with pressed coffee. Those two were amazing. 4 stars for good service, good crab cakes and good desert. Minus 1 star for ruining a perfectly good fish.

Crummy service and mediocre food. Waiter didn't know how to pour wine, and did not once refill water, in spite of more than $100/ person plus bill.
