Yummy!!! We ate here two days in a row. The food is simple and fresh. Family owned and off the tourist path

I came to Juneau for a business trip and had a hard time looking for "real" food. I was recommended to this restaurant and it is the best. Its authentic!!

Wonderful Hispanic restaurant! Great food, great decor, great, friendly service, and it's clean! I can't say a bad thing about the place. I wish they did sell root beer though hahaha definitely going back!!!

I agree that this is the best Mexican food in Juneau, and maybe all of SE Alaska. It is also not Tex-Mex, but as authentic as they can make it. I highly recommend the tamales (vegetarian) and the shrimp tostadas. Prices are very reasonable and a $12 lunch is possible.

Best Mexican restaurant in Alaska that I've found. Been here a couple years between anchorage, Fairbanks, and Juneau, and a few in between. (For more authentic Mexican, not American Mexican) I've only had the tacos but they are as authentic as you can get up here. Soft shell with cilantro and onions and your choice of salsa. Yum! Family run too it appears which is cool. Whenever I'm in Juneau I'll stop here for tacos!

Best Mexican food in town, always fresh and fast. The location is a bit hard to find and the hours are limited.

Dankest tacos. Ever. Exceptional, authentic service (they know my order by heart.) This restaurant goes out of it's way to deliver you "the right stuff." Everything is made fresh--beans, rice, and fresh meat. Good atmosphere too.

I moved from Arizona to Alaska with my husband in the summer of 2011. Living in AZ I was accustomed to really good Mexican food and I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to eat good Mexican food for the 6 months I was there, thank goodness for El Zarape! Delicious Mexican food up to my standards :)

Apparently this is a new place. The woman running the restaurant was very friendly and the dining area is clean and attractive. I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos. I was a bit hesitant to have Mexican food in Alaska, but it was pretty good. The tortillas were tasty and the meat was good. The salsas for the taco and the chips were both very good - and I'm hoping homemade? I thought $10 was a bit overpriced for 3 little street tacos, but I'd go back. They have a big menu and a variety of items.

Best Mexican Food in Juneau, and very friendly local owners. My number one dish is the Carne Asada tacos with the Red Sauce. The Green Sauce is pretty tasty, but the red sauce is spicier and the flavor changes as it is made fresh... sometimes a little too much chipotle flavor for me, but still very flavorful.

I ordered the 3 carne asada tacos. Flavorful and meaty. I would buy them again. The atmosphere is lacking, but I suspect it will get better over time.

The halibut tacos were pretty good. I don't think anyone was unhappy with their meal, but there wasn't any resounding praise, either.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
