They make their own ketchup.......Drop the mic....Walk away....Yeah it is that good! Not to mention the other fantastic items on their menu, poutine, fish tacos actually you can not go wrong here! If you want to eat the "large" plates make sure you make a reservation for dinner as the place is small and they wont serve full dinners outside. If you go to Homer this is a must stop...probably more than once!

My sister, my boyfriend and I visited Homer, Alaska in August 2015. We looked up Little Mermaid as it ranked #1 in Homer and wow oh wow. The food was absolutely amazing. My sister and I were particularly impressed by their Citrus Salad, topped with Grilled Rockfish. We also have Alaskan Salmon chowder and a sandwich. The salad was absolutely stunning, visually and taste wise. Loved every single bite. My boyfriend also got a blue berries soda - homemade. The bill came up to 46.50 for three people. I would love to come back next time. One tip is that if you plan to visit them for dinner service, MAKE RESERVATION! They have a small restaurant of only 20 seats. They are fully booked for 2 consecutive nights. Dinner menu was huge. We definitely missed out

This is as close to a locavore gourmet restaurant as I found in Homer. It's on the spit (at least during the summer), and can be busy, so I recommend making a reservation (really). Everything I saw looked good - though a few dishes may be too adventurous for some, they have solid local food combined with a foodie's flair for interesting combinations. I had seared scallops with pesto, a Malbec (by the glass) and an excellent carrot cake. Nearby diners tried the stone bowl (bi-bim-bap meets local tempura and seafood), and the Halibut Golden Tomato, both of which looked fabulous. The English lamb stew was also popular. The next time I'm in Homer, I plan to go back.

Zen and zesty Had the pleasure of dining here for dinner with good friends. Beautifully decorated and relaxing atmosphere. Unique wood dining tables and chairs. Patio and indoor dining available. Fantastic and friendly service. The minute you walk up to the entrance the mouth watering aroma of Thai spices linger in the air. I ordered the chicken pineapple rice which was delicious. Good size portions so bring your appetite!

Blonde Hostess treated friends better! Food was EXCELLENT! Server was very nice and the only one there...so a little slow, but OK! "Computer will not split bills" weird, but no worries as we were with friends.

Amazingly creative experience!! Each discs was stunningly well prepared from the Octopus Poki, BBQ Unagi, and the best Poutine with Aged Cheddar. When we first arrived they were full and soon they had a opening go us to sit I the dining area. The staff was always there to help an polite.

My brother and sister-in-law brought us here for dinner one night. The food was a brilliant, high quality delight and the customer service was great. It was so good that hubby and I came back the next night to get one of their pizzas for take out. Mmmmm. Some of the best pizza I've had. This have given me one more reason to visit my old stomping grounds more often.

Don't get me wrong, the one lunchtime meal we had here was very good. The reason for only three stars was a combination of two things. The hostess treated us like we were an irritation rather than a money spending customer and the service was very poor. I can suggest to the hostess a couple of things. First, don't walk up to people and stare at them for a long period of time before saying anything. Second, if you can't seat someone for 15 minutes, "suggest" they might want to take a stroll rather that "tell" them to take a stroll.

I am not sure why I did not choose a 5 star. I guess because we had to wait an hour to get a seat. Their secret must be out. We had lunch, I ordered a rice bowl with sea salad and fresh rock fish. There was large green beans in there too. The sauce was perfect as well as perfectly steamed rice. I was too full for a lunch, but appreciated the service in this 5 table restaurant. Hope they can grow their space and survive. Sisters Oregon Bob

This was the best seafood I had in Alaska, and to top it off, it was totally affordable! I was here for lunch and ordered the local rockfish on ciabatta. The fish was so good, I didn't want the bread to smother any of the flavor and texture, so I ate the rockfish plain and snacked on the cibatta separately. At $10.50 it was a steal! The owners used to run the Mermaid restaurant in town. I don't know why they moved, but its great that you can get good affordable food in such a touristy area. I was super impressed.

This place is phenomenal. They have excellent food and great service. I ordered the fish chowder and it was the best I ever had. My sister had the fish tacos and they were also really good. Their beer list isn't that great but the food more than makes up for it. The views here are awesome as well. If you find yourself in Homer, you have to come to this restaurant.

The worst thing about the Little Mermaid is that it is only open during the tourist season. Chef Evan has been a fixture on the Homer food scene for over a decade and always seems to have new, inventive ideas to share, and this latest venture does not disappoint. The poke salad, made with either ahi or octopus, is amazing. So is the seared ahi. So is the seaweed salad. The beef sliders, something you wouldn't expect to be all that great, are great. So are the pulled pork sliders. The first time the waitress asked me if I wanted some of their homemade ketchup I was like "what's the point of that?" Then I put some on my hand cut fries and....wow. I feel like I never knew what ketchup was really all about before that. And then there's the pizza. Pizza is how this chef made his name in this town and it's only gotten better with time. Hand-tossed, perfect thin crust with high-quality toppings. The chorizo and goat cheese pizza is awesome. I keep giving these guys a chance to serve me something I don't like, and so far I haven't managed to find it. Can't wait till they open back up for next year's season.

Visited on account of strong recommendations from some locals. It seemed pretty busy, like the place to be on the Spit. My wife and were worried just adding fries to the side of one sandwich wouldn't be enough to share but it turned out perfect. We had good portions, both with the falafel burger and the salmon burger. Tastes were unique with different sauces. The homemade ketchup was a treat. We opted to sit at the area that looked more like it was for bakery customers (stools and high, skinny tables) since the weight was projected to be quite long. You get the same service and don't have to wait as much if they're open.

The ambiance is seafood shack on the Homer spit. The food is some of the most creative, flavorful, exciting and unusual preparation I have ever had in my 71 years of life. If this restaurant was in downtown Seattle, the waiting list would be a year. My halibut was a large piece of the most tender, juicy, most flavorful fish you can imagine. I have been eating halibut on a Holland America ship and had it in their premier restaurant last night and this far exceeded that wonderful meal. The Stone Bowl is beyond description, a cornucopia of seafood in a delicious sauce with Japanese noodles and tempura shrimp served on the side.

Best lunch we have had in Alaska! The Ahi Poke salad was excellent! The halibut sandwich was also very good.

This was our favorite meal during our entire 10 day trip in Alaska. The best oysters I've ever had. I typically love just traditional oysters, these had a light watermelon jalapeno granita on them and somehow made them better! Our server (I'm assuming the owner?), she was incredible. She let us know what was freshly caught that day so we could order the best freshest fish. We didn't even notice that we were the last table left in the restaurant and it felt like she had all the time in the world to help us enjoy our Alaska adventure. We might come back to Alaska just for another dinner here!

We have visited AK for a week every July for the last seven years and the Little Mermaid served up the best meals we've ever had in the state through all our travels. We also both work in the restaurant industry and are overly critical when it comes to dining experiences. You'd never know from the turquoise building in the middle of tourist central, that the food waiting inside was so good. We ended up going two nights in a row for dinner because the first night was so good. The fish portions are huge and cooked perfectly - crispy bits from the pan, juicy inside, flaky, and seasoned just right. The ceviche (whatever kind they have that night) is also amazing - just the right amount of acid, beautifully plated, served with home chips seasoned with delicious flavored salt. Since you're probably on vacation, to heck with manners and just go ahead and lick the salt right off the chips. Another small but memorable bite is their homemade barley flour bread. I asked to purchase a few extra slices to take home for breakfast the next day. The fish and chips are the best - smaller pieces of fish so that there is a perfect ratios of fish to batter. Way better than the so-so fried fish we had for lunch at the Boardwalk Fish & Chips. You may it silly to order pizza while in Homer, but don't be fooled. This pizza is crispy, hot, and not skimpy on the cheese. I'd go back just for that. Don't skip dessert - key lime pie, blackberry crisp, and carrot cake with pistachio crust will make you shutter with happiness. Of note - the wine is list is small but includes a few very tasty and harder to find wines. Root 1 Cab is hard to find in lower 48 and a treat to see on this list; they also sell Seghesio Zin by the bottle, another favorite. If you want to guarantee a table, make a reservation. However, the tables used for reservations are comfy, but have no view of the harbor. The walk-in tables are bar high tops by the windows where you can see all the boats come in. Anyhoo - a 5 star for this gem. Food this good is few and far between in my favorite state of AK.

Love this place! Ate here twice coming and going from Homer. Had a little wait but totally worth it! We enjoyed the Rockfish tacos for dinner one night (2 for $12) and 1 at lunch (for $5 -what a steal!), halibut fish n chips for $20 (good size portion of halibut). At lunch we ate the Ahi Poki with rice, seaweed salad and yuzu tobiko (nice flare) and dipping sauces designed on the plate for $17. We also had the terriyaki Grilled Rockfish rice bowl for $17 (savory grilled veggies- very yummy and healthy). The food isn't cheap but if it were it wouldn't be as fresh and well executed as it is. There is a lot of creativity put into these dishes although the descriptions on the menu are understated. If you have to choose one place to eat while on Homer Spit - eat at The Little Mermaid.

Can I give it more stars? The Alaska state flag has stars but The Little Mermaid has more! Crab cake appetizer was the best ever! Jalapeño dust was the perfect amount of spice with the fresh succulent crab! We had the fresh halibut pan seared over a mushroom broth and oriental noodles and it was the best meal E.V.E.R. Run to the Little Mermaid! Make a reservation! Wait an hour! The best in AK!

The most thoughtful food I have encountered in Alaska. Tonights special was seared scallops with a wasabi avocado ice cream. I am so grateful to have found this gem. Thank goodness. Awesome!!!

I'm sure the food is great here. On a Sunday the wait for three (as we were told) was 30 minutes for lunch. Five minutes into waiting we realized the hostess hadn't taken our name down. Twenty minutes later when we checked on our place in line, another lady informed us that there were a lot of groups ahead of us, then when asked how much longer was our wait, said she needed three minutes to tell me. Too long of a wait just to sit and the staff seemed a bit disorganized. Really wanted to try another place other than Boardwalk Fish & Chips, which is where we ended up, happily seated and food ordered immediately.

This place is SO FRIGGIN' GOOD!! I would make a special trip to Homer just to eat at Little Mermaid! When the owner is your server and recommends a dish, order it. You will not be disappointed! Great food. Great service. Great view! One of Alaska's finest. Small and quaint. I highly recommend a reservation, as they were turning people away at the door!

The Little Mermaid is a hard restaurant to get into - it took us three tries - but it was well worth it because the food was spectacular and the service was fantastic. We showed up at dinner-time on a Sunday night and were told they were completely booked. We asked about a reservation for the next night and they told us the same but suggested we drop in for lunch. The next day we stopped by around 2pm to see if anybody had cancelled for that evening. They said no but suggested we come back anyway in case they were seating in their sunroom (where they don't take reservations). So, we did. Around 6 pm we stopped by and scored a seat in the cheery, somewhat cramped, stool-seating sunroom. We are very glad that our persistence paid off because it is the best meal we have had in Alaska so far. We tried the stuffed dates for an appetizer. The bacon was crispy and smokey and the chèvre filling was perfectly creamy with a tangy balsamic reduction. I had the citrus half salad which was actually huge. It had really fresh orange slices and local greens and sprouts. My boyfriend had the beet salad and enjoyed it. For dinner I had the falafel plate and he had the daily special stone bowl which happened to bi bim bap with tempura shrimp and Halibut, Both were outstanding and chalk full of local fresh veggies, pickled onions and flavor. The falafel itself was not bad, but the real star of the dish was the goddess dressing and veggies. We were impressed that a restaurant in Homer, Alaska could produce tasty Korean and Middle Eastern dishes. For dessert we had the tiramisu and the vanilla creme brûlée with a chocolate chip cookie to go. The desserts were good but nothing too unique. We didn't catch our server's name but she may have also been the manager or owner and she was great. Very enthusiastic about the food and gave detailed descriptions of everything she put down in front of us. If you are visiting Homer you would be remiss not to hit up the Little Mermaid - but definitely make a reservation. Also, I'd recommend asking about the prices for the daily specials because they weren't listed and are surprisingly pricey compared to the rest of the menu (think $34 bi bim bap special versus $18-ish falafel regular menu item).

This restaurant is very small, but they worked to accommodate our group. The entire menu looked fantastic, so we ordered many things and split them. We ordered the scallops, pizza, fish tacos and the stone bowl. All four were amazing and cooked to perfection. The brick-oven pizza was one of the best I have ever had. The stone bowl was a bizarre mixture of everything, but was so delicious. It was expensive, but worth it. Be careful though. They do not tell you exactly how spicy it is, and it is incredibly hot!
