    All my Filipino kaibigans, flock to this corner kubo. Kubo, if you did not know, means hut in Tagalog. And while the outside of this restaurant does not look like much. The inside will blow you away. The inside is well decorated, with furniture to match, very clean and typically playing your average Filipino television or movies. And if you did not know, Filipinos are the karaoke superstars, luckily (or unluckily) every Friday and Saturday nights they bust out that karaoke machine on their center stage! Their service is always awesome, and their food always hits the spot. Their BBQ is huge with about 3 cups of rice, but their portion size in general is enormous. So come hungry! I'm very thankful for being able to get my Filipino fix on without having to call my mom for help or did though old recipe books.

    Great food. I had the logilisa it was very tasty highly recommend it to anyone. The restaurant is very clean and the bathroom is clean. Staff is very friendly great place to eat.

    The food here is really good, reminds me of Jerry's grill that I had back in Cerritos, Ca. I've haven't been in the PI. The ambiance is nice and the staff is friendly, they could be a little attentive, but it was a good experience overall. I don't know where else to get such a great variety of filippino food in town. I would definitely come back next time I crave a taste of the homeland. They also show pacquiao fights, but could be pricey. We came in at 4 pm on a Saturday and they asked if we were staying for the fight. We didn't even know about it, but they were charging $17 pp for that fight, I don't know remember who it was against.

    Alrighty then,, we're in Anchorage for shits and giggles so, our last dinner would be hella proper if we did Filipino Cuisine. So went on yelp and found this spot. The chef/cook is definitely fearless. The crispy pata we ordered is definitely perfect, although it is one of the simple dishes in the filipino book. But the bicol express was phenomenal. Never had it with shrimp and squid before, and I was floored. Also, we did the whole dessert thing and we gave the Taho a go at it. BTW, did I mention the chef/cook was fearless? Let me just go on ahead and let everybody know what's up. This is the United States of America and fresh silky tofu is very very very very rare, and for this guy to execute this desert with soft tofu is definitely fearless. It's delish and out of this world. It brings me back to my childhood days when I would run after the Taho man whenever I hear him yelling the product out on the streets. This place is the truth.     Maybe I haven't looked well enough but it's hard to find filipino restaurants in Anchorage if there are any. I always crave filipino food so my review maybe higher than it should considering filipino food is hard to find restaurant wise. The lechon is crispy goodness and the big serving of pork menudo was tasty though I prefer chicken. The young man that served us was ultra friendly which is a big plus. Though a couple people were in waiting on pick ups, our food took a little long to come out and we were the only people sitting in the restaurant. I want to really like this place but the prices are a little deterring.

    *Ambiance : wasn't fond of the interior. It was just okay. Probably more lighting and less of the dark/mahogany chairs and tables will help. Kudos to the owners though, cause the place looked really tidy. *Service : there was one server at that time and i think it was the owner. He was very very nice, courteous and accommodating. *Food : I LOVE THEIR FOOD!!! Haven't had filipino food in a long time and i must say i'll come back whenever i get a chance to visit Anchorage. Fell in love with their Halo-Halo, Sisig and Lumpiang Gulay (vegetable lumpia). Price: was a bit steep.

    Terrible service,expensive food,decent food. Took about 20 minutes for them to figure out I don't have any utensils to eat, even though there were only a handful of costumers, Soda was $4.00 each, pretty self explanatory Food arrived and there were more thank obvious signs of microwave use. And last but not least, they were having some construction with debris falling, I was literally a fee steps away and only watched my food get comtaminated.

    Good filipino food, so far I've tried both of the fried and fresh lumpia, tinola, chicken adobo, and sinigang na bangus. I come here when I'm craving my parents' cooking, and don't feel like having my place smell like food for 2 weeks. Downside, a little pricey though... Service has always been great.

    Growing up, we always ate Filipino food so I kind of got tired of eating it but my Mexican husband loves it! But every time we go to Kubo when we are in Anchorage everything always seems to be delicious. Kubo is definitely a place to eat Filipino food and can hands down compete with other Filipino restaurants especially in L.A. (I would know - raised in L.A. but moved to Alaska in 2009)

    I wasn't expecting much going to this place. We were invited to go for a friend's birthday lunch. I imagined the food would be mediocre. However, I was dead wrong. The menu had wide variety of filipino food to choose from and the kareoke atmosphere was an appropriate setting. The place was clean and the servers were friendly. I did take some time to get the food then again it was a large group. The food was great and portion was generous. I would definitely recommend this place if you're craving for an authentic filipino food.

    We were in Anchorage for one day and decided to rent a car instead of hanging out at the airport. I asked a girl at the rental counter (who looked Filipina) if there were any Filipino restaurants in town. She gave me directions to Kubo. Kubo is located in what apprears to be an international strip mall, along with Korean and other asian shops. They were just opening when we knocked on the door and hurriedly unlocked to let us in. My wife and I are both Filipino so we always search out the soul food cookin' when we travel. The restaurant is dark, with mood lighting. It had the look of a nightclub back in the Philippines. We saw two big screen TV's for news, sports and karaoke and even a small stage at one end of the room. The waiter seated us and handed the menus. As we were looking them over we noticed a parade of Filipinos coming in to order from a hot table in the back. In the Philippines we call this "Turo Turo" ("Point, Point") in the US it's called cafeteria. We told the waiter we would rather order that way and went to the steam table. A delightful collection of Filipino cuisine greeted us. I had Humba and Sitao(Stewed pork belly and sauteed long beans), my wife had Fried Bangus and BBQ on a stick (Fried Milkfish and BBQ Pork.) Everything came with rice, of course. The food was generously served, well seasoned and tasty, just like back home. And it was fun chatting with the other Filipinos who came in for lunch. I had no idea Anchorage had such a Pinoy population. We later learned Kubo also has entertainment, besides the karaoke, with musical and comedy acts so the "nightclub" decor made sense.

    I need to go here a few more times, but for starters: Seems to have a very good array of Filipino food. I had the Pinakbet which seemed a bit spendy (17.99) as does most things on the menu (best bang for buck looks like it might be the pancit dishes 11.99-13.99). Beers are also quite high with San Miguel at 7.50 and miller 6.50. I got a glass of house cab 6$ and it was cold cold, and not sure what it was

    I regret to make this review as I had greatly anticipated my visit to Kubo. In fact, I called a few times to inquire and the gentleman who answered the phone was very courteous. However, the day my party of 14 VIP travel clients came was nearly a complete disappointment, and I cannot recommend this place. I received a call at 5pm the day of our reservation and called back in 15 minutes. A rude lady said they had called several times and that they had another large party at 9pm to accommodate so they needed to confirm my party. Also they asked if we could pre-order our food. As I did not want my clients to feel like they were going to some cheap take-out that coincidentally had seating, I said we would order once we got there. (Spoiler alert: the restaurant was mostly empty and no large group after us arrived). Dinner was alright. The food was pretty good but was nothing stellar. My Pancit Palabok had dry noodle on the edges of the plate which may be indicative of microwave use. Although they say their entrees are large portions, they are single portions. The calamari was less than a single portion mixed in with french fries to mask the lack of food. Around halfway through the meal, our drinks arrived. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone was helpful and polite. The bill came in at $330 with a mandatory group gratuity included, which I was prepared to pay without question. However, as we were going to the register to pay, the gentleman told me that he forgot to add the 12 rice "cups" we had received. I felt this was a violation of trust and principle not only because the bill was already issued but because their menu clearly states that rice is included with all entrees. $280 worth of entrees and he wanted to charge me $2.50 a cup for a total of $30 for rice! I expressed my thoughts and out of the back came this irritated lady who just basically yelled at me like I was some sort of cheapskate. She introduced herself as an owner. She told me that we were not the most important people she served and that what we had paid was not a lot of money. I told her that we had come to their restaurant from very far and that I was embarrassed as a travel agent to recommend a place that berates customers who ask questions. She completely lost her composure and proceeded to make several condescending comments. I suggested that she cease operating a public restaurant if she cannot have a modicum of respect for customers. Bottom line: be prepared to be nickel and dimed for everything at this restaurant. The rude owner clearly thinks her steamed rice is God's gift to humanity and cannot keep her composure. She is an unprofessional mediocre cook, who thinks very highly of herself. Her temper makes everyone in the restaurant look bad. Barring her disgusting display of insanity, I would have given this fast food restaurant masquerading as a gourmet establishment 3 stars.

    Wanted to try this place out since it's near my son's preschool and was convenient for after work. Went on a Tuesday night, and there were two other tables and at least two takeout orders picked up while we were there. Pretty quiet other than the Pinoy news station on two tv's. The bbq pork was excellent - perfect charred edges and delicious sweet sauce. Garlic rice was just what I hoped for with chunks of both sauteed and fried garlic. Chicken fried rice was good and tasted fresh and the chicken in it was moist and yummy. The garlic shrimp was a letdown, since they were whole shrimp with heads and were really tough to peel. So much work, all the flavors lost on the shell, no deveining, no extra napkins given - is there a shrimp-peeling trick that I'm missing? Also was surprised since the picture was a plate of ready to eat shrimp. But, having photos of every dish is very helpful and welcome on such a diverse menu. We want to go back for the noodle dish and try the bbq chicken and more of that bbq pork. Give this place a try!

    Great food! I am thankful that my best friend introduced me to Kubo restaurant. We went on a Saturday early evening and took over the karaoke machine, pretty much. Had so much of a great time that my friend and I were kindly reminded that they were about to close up. Went back two weeks later with pretty much the same result. I will certainly be bringing my Lower 48 friends here when we visit Anchorage!
