The ORIGINAL Hook's Barbecue - it doesn't get much better than this! Yes, before there were Hook's in Troy, Luverne, and (now closed) Dothan, there was this unassuming little barbecue shack at the corner of US 331 and MLK Jr. Blvd. I have spent a good bit of time in Opp. More than most, who are simply passing through. There are several good eateries in the area, but Hook's takes the cake. And speaking of cake, make sure you grab a slice of their homemade pound cake, which comes with most of their combo dinners. Ok, what to eat? It's hard to go wrong, from BBQ chicken to their great BBQ pork and pork ribs. My favorite dishes are the BBQ pork sandwiches with their homemade rice, the ribs, and the barbecue potato (the best I've ever had!!). Wash all that down with some sweet tea and it's hard to go wrong. SO, if you happen to be passing through Opp, don't let the ramshackle appearances of Hook's fool you - this is a true hidden treasure!

This is a review for the BREAKFAST ONLY. Breakfast is very well priced and very much filling. Had 5 items and a coffee for under $7. Only warning is when ordering the pancakes...FYI: Those jokers are HUGE! Service was good every time, and chance to chat it up with the locals.

New staff. So far the biggest and best hamburger in all of Opp. Homemade French fries. Really good!

This used to be the best in BBQ but of late it has gone down hill dramatically. The last time we ordered we all got Medium Pork plates and there was barely any sauce on the meat. The potato salad was tasteless and the beans tasted canned. I always look forward to the Pound cake but it was AWFUL, it tasted like rancid fat and was bone dry. The sauce remains very good but I have found a copycat recipe online that is every bit as good.
