We first ate at the Wagon Box in the late 80's when we spent most weekends and holidays in Story. Recently our time in Story has been isolated to a week or two during the summer. Over the years we have seen the other Story restaurants go through ups and downs, but the Wagon Box has always had the same consistent high quality food, service and value!! Tonight had the prime rib and excellent, as always!! Great service as well. By far the best restaurant in Story.

Restaurant review: The Wagon Box restaurant/bar has a large parking area. The building is tucked into the pines with a wagon out by the road. It has a large deck which is nice in warmer weather if you can dodge mosquitos. Hopefully, the new owners will brighten up the place. The inside is dark and well worn. Remembered by all the locals as being the same since about 1979. The burger was pretty darn good, the service fair. Our server had just started a few days prior and it showed but she was friendly. The bar can be a little loud with regulars so if not interested in hearing bar/pool table noise sit away from that area.

Fantastic. I would definitely go again. The service was great. The food was great. And honestly, I'm not sure why there are 3 $ signs - the prices are quite reasonable.

Cute little cabins, in the summer they are right on the pond- they drain the pond in the winter but it's still beautiful and right n the creek. My spouse and I spent a long weekend in October 2013. We didn't eat in the restaurant. Some things to be aware of; There are no lamps anywhere in the cabin, just harsh overhead lighting. Probably no big deal when the sun sets at 8:30 but definitely disappointing for us since we hate overhead lights and love to read in bed. Also no bedside tables. I did ask at front desk in the restaurant if we could maybe get a small lamp to use and the woman acted like I had asked them to install a hot tub in the cabin so I gave up. The heater didn't work in our bathroom but there were warnings posted in the cabin about how they would hold you responsible if you turned down the heat and froze the pipes, so I am not sure how that policy will work out for them if they don't fix the heaters. There was a charming stone fireplace but the first night there was no firewood supplied (we walked over and got some from the cabin next door) They did come and stock the woodbox for our second night. The cabin was not filthy but it wasn't clean either. The windows were very dirty which is a shame since they overlook the creek. The only chairs in the room were the bent willow variety, great to look at but not comfortable for sitting by the fire at all. There is a small sink and microwave, and a coffee maker (which was so clogged from hard water that we gave up waiting and went to the nearby coffee shop), but no refrigerator. I guess this setting is better if you are here in the summer, have a full day of activities planned, and come back to eat and drink at the restaurant, walk in, hit the shower, and fall into bed. But the cabins are not great or comfortable for hanging out in. They don't allow pets but several of the locals were walking dogs on the grounds while we were there. The cabins aren't carpeted, don't have upholstered furniture, and aren't super clean so I don't know what they have against dogs. I love Story and the Wagon Box is iconic. I overlook the little things but do be aware this is pretty bare bones. If you are looking for a cozy fall or winter hideout this might not fit your plans.

The fiance and I don't do birthday gifts but rather take the other out for a night somewhere. Since we're currently in Wyoming I wanted to go camping. It's too cold to camp so he found this little cabin here in Story. It was super cute and remote and PERFECT. It's right on a little pond with a porch swing and walking distance to the bar that has the most awesome Happy Hour. I can't remember how much we drank (that's how awesome the specials were) but our tab was basically nothing. We ate lunch and dinner there and the food was actually awesome. The wine selection was also impressive. I hope to go back here again one day. Highly recomend it to anyone looking to have fun in a small little town for a night.
