Laramie's restaurants are woefully poor. However, we have eaten at Mizu Sushi twice with my daughters and have had spectacular meals and outstanding service both times. We took a group of 10 here this weekend for my daughter's birthday (5 teenagers - some of whom actually ate sushi!). Our server was FUN and kind and generous. She made a small deal for my daughter's birthday. She made her feel special without embarrassing her. The sushi was fresh, the tempura light and crispy, and all of our meals were delicious and flavorful. The atmosphere is casual, yet has a fun, hip feel. We had a memorable meal here.

Excellent and attentive service, lovely atmosphere. Enjoyed the generous salmon teriyaki, served with delicious tempura vegetables and shrimp. The menu had some creative items I'd love to try in future--scallops and shrimp baked in orange. I look forward to coming back!

First thing I noticed when I walked through the door was how big it was and soon after that I was greeted nicely by the hostess and escorted to a very nice booth which is very comfortable. I was treated very well and properly as a customer I recommend coming here with friends as its modern and plays some hip songs. The food is great too although the salad has too much dressing and wasn't much of a salad as it was a sugar pit. Miso soup is wonderful evening and my teriyaki chicken was wonderful too ! I recommend going here

I'm not a big sushi fan, I went with my girlfriend who is. I ended up getting the chicken teriyaki plate with tempora which I must say was incredibly tasty. For dessert we got mango mochi which again was fantastic. The reason I am not eating five stars is that the service seemed disorganized, with three different wait staff trying to keep up with us. As a result, our appetizer of crab ragoons never got brought out- but I was so full after my meal that I didn't mind.

Good place didn't expect good fish in Wyoming. Servers and cooks were not Caucasian. Thanks.

What a great little sushi place in the heart of Laramie's downtown area! Sushi - Interesting combinations along with your standard go-to's (California, Philly rolls) Service - excellent Price - a bit expensive. But I suppose it costs more to get fresh fish over here so it's understandable.

Awesome restaurant! Very surprising for a town in Wyoming! The decor is really modern and cool, the service is great, and they have lots of vegan options, in addition to an array of fantastic sushi rolls and entrees!

Great sushi and great service! We went this past weekend, UW graduation weekend. The restaurant was packed - we did have reservations, which I highly suggest. Despite being very busy, the staff was friendly, quick and helpful. We ordered the Love Boat - with 16 'Chef's Choice' rolls, plus Califonia Rolls, Fresh Water Eel, Veggie Roll, Spring Rolls, Edamame, and Crab Cheese Wontons. The food arrived fast and fresh! Everything was delicious - and even my vegetarian daughter was able to eat and enjoy! I loved the alaskan roll and tuna roll - would definitely eat here anytime we are in Laramie. For those afraid to try sushi 'inland', don't - this was obviously very fresh, well prepared, and no odor as you sometimes can get in restaurants serving old fish. High recommendation!

Great food! I've only had sushi once and decided to give it a try even in wyoming. I just assumed it wouldn't be fresh and it wouldn't be good if I wasn't on the coast. Well you know what happens when you assume. The menu was great, my family ordered the caterpillar roll, my favorite, we had the sushi and sashimi plate which came with the California roll and the fish was amazing, we had teriyaki chicken, and also grilled pork and shrim with rice noodles. My kids are 13 & 6 and they ate sushi for the first time and loved it. Price was good, $59.00 plus tip for our meal, and the staff was very friendly. I will go back, especially since it's only an hour away from my town, and we don't have any sushi here.

I ordered the sushi here, it was very good, I loved it. Normally a sushi is not enough for me so I then ordered a Pho, it was huge! The Pho alone is enough for 1 to 2 people, it is not my kind of taste though, but it was good. The only downside I could write is the difficult it was to eat it using the spoon they gave me, as the Pho has noodles in it, and eating a noodle soup with a spoon is, well, difficult at least to me.

Every single specialty roll is basically fish on top of a California roll, which begs to question whether or not the rolls are made to order or not. The selection was slightly boring and the waiter forgot to bring our wife her miso soup, we had to ask another waitress. I'm not sure what the other choices are in Laramie but i feel my money would be better spent elsewhere.

You'd never expect sushi to be this good in Wyoming, a land-locked midwestern state. But your expectations would be wrong. Prepare to be amazed at the selection of sushi, the speed of service, and the environment. Mizu Sushi is located along Third Street in downtown Laramie. Parking is difficult, unless you're prepared for parallel parking. Besides that, this place is wonderful. The food is delicious. On my most recent visit (since I go often, it's hard to keep track of what I and my friends ordered), I had the Chicken Teriyaki. I was not disappointed, even though I really wanted to order a la carte sushi. I just didn't have it in me to eat as much sushi as I wanted to. The chicken was cooked to perfection and there was a sufficient amount of spices to keep it interesting, all meal long. Besides Chicken Teriyaki, I ordered a Tsingtao beer and egg rolls. Both were superb. The beer was perfect because the temperature had reached an unusual high that day in Laramie, 85 degrees. Whew. I was sweating. Mizu Sushi quenched my thirst and satiated my hunger. Well done!

Having always lived within a few hours of a coastline, I was a little apprehensive about the availability of sushi in Laramie. Thankfully, I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of seafood and sushi, and Mizu is no exception. The sushi is fresh. However, I've had to temper my expectations after more than a decade of frequenting sushi bars from San Francisco to Atlanta. I will say that Mizu will do in a pinch. However, after multiple visits, I am somewhat disappointed in the variety of rolls available and creativity of the menu. On the whole, though, the rolls and prices at Mizu are alright for Laramie. I'm also used to the chefs at the bar experimenting a bit and sharing these creations with the patrons sitting there or at least free-flowing bowls of edamame. You will order everything at Mizu, but good luck getting the order placed. The wait staff varies; some are attentive and some are not. The same goes for the chefs. They are more preoccupied with filling the orders that come from the tables than interacting with bar patrons. Obviously, YMMV, but Mizu will do.

I was hesitant to try sushi in Laramie Wyoming but omg was I amazed on how well put together the place was and the chefs were very well knowledged in there menus and rolls. All the fish were fresh and well displayed. All and all this place is truly a diamond in the rough.

The service was excellent, nice waitress and nonstop water. Service: 10/10 The food was out of this world. I'm used to eating sushi and teriyaki, this was great! Food: 10/10 The decor was cool, I loved watching guys grocery games while eating. Decor: 10/10 Some of the improvements that could be made: the menu was sort of confusing, but it was worth it! Overall an excellent experience and I would come back any day 5 Stars.

30 minutes with zero service. No water, no drinks, nothing. Sunday evening, not busy at all. Never going back.

So lucky to have this restaurant. Excellent sushi, of course. The pho is tasty, as is the spring roll vermicelli. I wish I could recommended more dishes, but I keep going back to the same great things! Quiet; attentive waitstaff; nice decor. Great place to meet for lunch. The TVs over the bar are distracting, but their volume is off, so fairly easy to ignore.

I have been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally had my chance this past weekend. Wow! I've only ever had rolls before so I decided to try the crab sushi and OMG! Best crab I have ever had (in a landlocked restaurant)! Everything was so fresh and yummy! The staff was so attentive and polite. My friend and I shared the sushi, a spicy tuna roll, tempura shrimp roll and the most delightful tempura bananas for dessert. We also had miso soup and I had a glass of plum wine. The bill was $50. I thought that fairly reasonable considering the amount of food plus wine and a dessert. Great experience!

This place has the most amazing servers and staff. Extremely kind and personable. If I asked for a spaghetti hat with lobster claws, they would have it on the table in 3 seconds. Also, the food is the best in town.

Mizu Sushi is a true treat for Laramie residents and a great place to bring out-of-town guests. Clean and stylish, the restaurant also has a big menu with lots of yummy choices. The sashimi deluxe platter is super for a group looking for fresh fish, but there are lots of other options, too, even for vegetarians and people who don't eat fish. Great staff, friendly, prompt, accurate, well-informed.

Restaurant was clean and bright and had great ambience. However, we ordered two rolls, Dragon roll and the Rainbow. Although presented very artfully and were tasty. I noticed that the center of both rolls were filled with chopped fake crab which is also known as Surimi. This is like using Spam in a "beef" roll and calling it beef. Surimi is made up of cooked Cod and "other fish", mashed and seasoned with "other chemicals" to taste like crab. YUCK. I was very disappointed. When I see crab I want crab because that is what I paid for. The Beef Pho soup was good but could have been served a little hotter.

I was VERY surprised to find a sushi restaurant in Laramie, WY. The place was packed. To me, the crowded dining room is the sign of a good place to eat. The food and service are both good. The atmosphere is better than many restaurants in town. If you like sushi, it's worth a try.

I have had discussions in the past with friends where they jokingly say remarks that they think it is weird that there is sushi in landlocked states, not just that but good sushi in landlocked states and you can't get much more landlocked than being in Wyoming. You can drive for hours in Wyoming and still be in the middle of nowhere. But best not think too much about that right now. I have heard two reliable sources say that Mizu Sushi is a great sushi place to go to. So I made a point to put it on my hit list and go here when I was in Wyoming for the holidays. The sushi menu here is diverse and sticks with the more traditional sushi dishes. Fusion sushi is becoming more and more popular and if prepared right is good in it's own right but they shy away from it here and that is ok, I just wanted good sushi! My brother and I ordered a huge amount of sushi off of their diverse menu. We ordered crab, squid, octopus and Yellowtail for starters. We had rolls as well, the Spicy Tuna Roll was my favorite! The squid was surprisingly good and you can never go wrong with Yellowtail! We had some great Miso Soup with the sushi as well as green tea to warm us up from the frigid Wyoming winds! My mother is not a sushi fan and Mizu has other options for folks who are squeamish with sushi. They also serve Pho and have dishes like Teriyaki Chicken and Vegetable Tempura. Mizu is the best sushi I have had in recent memory, in the last six months anyway. Perhaps when I move to the west coast in February my sushi expectations may totally be revolutionized but for now Mizu is worth going back to again repeatedly in my book!

Mizu Sushi managed to wow me, and I hate fish. So, sorry - I can't vouch for the sushi. My coworker is a fan of sushi, though, and really enjoyed what he got. I ordered the pho, and it was incredible! Would have finished the entire (huge) bowl, if only I'd had room for it. Also, the service here was very quick and extremely friendly. The waitstaff worked as a team, and we were checked up on frequently - but, no one was overbearing. Drinks were refilled quickly. Finally, I have to note that the restrooms here are REALLY clean - they actually smelled good. Attention to the restrooms speaks highly as to the sanitary standards in the restaurant overall... nice job, Mizu Sushi!

I thought that I had written a review previously for this place, but apparently not. We've eaten here multiple times and everything is fantastic! The fish is incredibly fresh and the rolls and sashimi are delicious and beautiful. You must try the Tempura Jalapeno and the Spicy Blossom appetizers. The sushi here is better than most places in Denver and only a fraction of the price for the quality of the food. The service has always been perfect, too. This is honestly one of my all-time favorite restaurants and I would eat here regularly if I lived in Laramie.

My boyfriend and I were pleasantly surprised by the sushi at Mizu. We went for lunch with some coworkers and ordered a plethora of dishes; everyone seemed pleased. The bowls of pho are HUGE - beware! I had miso soup, a caterpiller roll, and some spring rolls; everything was yummy and made with fresh ingredients. One of my coworkers ordered hot tea, which came in a little steaming pot alongside multiple cups. Our server was very nice and helpful. We'll be back for more!

I'll be the first to admit that I am no sushi connoisseur, but in my limited experience with the cuisine Mizu Sushi has proven to be exemplary. I have tried various rolls, sushi, sashimi, teriyaki dishes, and pho. They all met each and every expectation I had, and much more. Most importantly, the staff are friendly and helpful throughout the meal.

  • Brad K.

Mizu is perfect. The establishment itself is clean, spacious, upscale and trendy. The staff is absolutely professional and the service is quick. I've never had "coastal city" sushi, so I can't compare it to "real sushi" but Mizu's sushi is excellent. Mizu (and it's sister restaurant in Rock Springs called Bonsai), have turned me into a sushi fan. You will notice that your drink WILL NEVER BE EMPTY. The prices are great, too. We got 3 sushi rolls, dessert and 2 iced teas for $44!

As you can see from my reviews, I'm usually a thumbs up/thumbs down kinda guy; I most often rate things one star or five stars, all or nothing. But when I went to this restaurant, my brain and my stomach and my taste buds were all screaming "Meh!" at the top of their lungs, so I will rate this restaurant 2 stars, which Yelp says is a "Meh." Everything about it was mediocre. Sushi just average, fish just average, soup just OK, service unenthusiastic and slow, selection limited, nothing really foul tasting but nothing really exceptional either. Not the most expensive I have had but felt I should have got more for the money. Thought the other sushi place in town down by the highway was much better.

As far as restaurants in Laramie go, Mizu is a breath of fresh air. Mizu has a wonderful menu, with lots of different options to satisfy the casual sushi diner and the more adventurous sushi eater. It is not fair to compare Mizu's sushi to that which may be found in San Francisco or Seattle. As far as quality goes, Mizu's sushi is among the best you are going to find in the landlocked mountain west. If you are searching for sushi that tastes like it was pulled out of the ocean only an hour earlier, do not look for it when you are 1,200 miles from the nearest coast. If you happen to be a vegetarian or vegan, you can easily put together a complete meal at Mizu that will leave you very satisfied; good options for vegetarians include the following menu items: edamame, seaweed salad, spring rolls with fried tofu, vegetable roll, avocado roll, etc. The real highlight of Mizu are the sushi chefs and wait staff. They have always been incredibly friendly and sweet to my girlfriend and I when we dine there. To say that the service is fast and efficient would be a major understatement, as it borders on preternatural. There is another reviewer on Yelp that has written two 1-star review updates for Mizu that I believe are completely unfounded in their criticisms of the restaurant. First, a one sentence line about a restaurant is not a review, and these are what the majority of her reviews consist. Second, to call the service at Mizu "mediocre" is absurd, considering this might be the hardest working restaurant staff in town. Third, if she believes this to be so-called "imitation sushi," why does she bother going back? I just really do not like seeing one of the better establishments in a town that does not have that many dining options getting a bad rap due to one reviewer's negative whims.

So I understand that we are in WY and there is no such thing as fresh fish but this was the worst sushi I have ever eaten!! There were 3 of us and none of us could finish 1 roll let alone 3. They were very dry like they had been sitting out and had no flavor. Ive heard so many good things about this place and was very disappointed. Im usually the type that will try a place more then once but the thought of going back here makes me sick! On top of the food being bad the service was the same. We never got refills on drinks and was never checked out. The inside looks very nice though.

I've lived in California for quite some time now, and after having eaten at Mizu at least twice a week for six months, I miss it SO much! Mizu is definitely up there with the best places in South Bay California I have been to. I would always get the rainbow roll and a seaweed salad and my fiance would get the dragon roll and crab wontons. All are a TEN OUT OF TEN. Mainly I wrote this review for the reviewer above - their spicy tuna is the only item which is mashed. The rainbow roll is made how a rainbow roll should be - separate pieces of fish laid over the top of the roll. Of all places, Laramie is NOT a place I would expect to find a five star sushi restaurant. But here it is.

Love this place. It's been several months since I've been in Laramie and have been drooling to go. I don't know how but this place consistently beats the pants off of Denver sushi joints that cost twice as much! Don't let the idea of sushi in Laramie slow you down, it is a first class eatery worth your time.

I really find it hard to believe that Mizu Sushi isn't listed on Yelp yet. They've been open for several years now and really should have been reviewed long ago. I'm used to the "all you can eat" Sushi that we can get in Reno, so paying for sushi by the piece or the roll was a bit harsh, but I realize we're spoiled that way Be that as it may, here is what we had and what we thought of it:. The menu offers fresh sushi, sashimi and long rolls as well as some basic Pho, rice and vermicelli dishes, as well as some entree dishes. I had to learn some different vocabulary, as I am used to ordering 'nigiri and long rolls' where Mizu offers 'sushi and Maki rolls', but I figured it out pretty well. I'm not a sushi snob can can't review on how fresh or not the fish was, I just know it tasted good! (and we haven't gotten sick, which we did get sick once in Reno) For starters we had: Baked Mussels - DELICIOUS - 6 per serving Edamane - served warm and there was more than the two of us could eat Sushi (or nigiri as I'm used to calling it with rice) and Sashimi: - the pieces of fish were all larger than the small amount of rice in each piece. + Albacore Sashimi - Soft and smooth to the taste + Fresh water Eel - delicious as I've ever had + Scallop - this was a huge mouthful, impossible to eat in two bites so you just shove the whole thing in and hope no one is offended + Tuna - fish was larger than the small bit of rice + Salmon - same as for the Tuna Maki rolls (or Long rolls as I am used to calling them) - I had a hard time knowing what to order because I'm accustomed to the names they use in Reno (which are surprisingly consistent) + Rose Roll - we aren't sure how this one got marked on the list, but somehow we ended up with it. It was the most expensive of those we ordered and I don't think I'd order it again. It is a "California roll" with spicy tuna on top, although the spicy tuna is mashed and smooshed on the top of the roll. My least favorite. I think I had actually meant to order the Spicy Tuna Roll .... + Scallop Roll - much smaller (and therefore fewer pieces) but very good + Spicy Tuna Tempura - this was good, used the same mashed tuna as the Rose roll but it was rolled inside the rice and seaweed. When we go back,, and we will go back, we are looking forward to the mussels again, and are going to try the Rainbow Roll (asking first if the 5 fish are is blended and mushed up, if so then I won't get it) and the Philadelphia roll (Salmon and cream cheese), maybe the caterpillar roll and/or the yellow tail roll, and I'll definitely get more of the Albacore sashimi. And that friends, sums up what we had and what we thought of it. Enjoy. :)

Imitation sushi...if it is not mashed so you cannot identify what the actual fish is/was...they serve it. This is not good sushi...go to Fort Collins or just do without...the pho is marginal. We could discuss service but that also was nothing but mediocre.

MIZU IS FANTASTIC IN SO MANY WAYS! First of all, the service is OUTSTANDING. The service staff is happy to have you join them for a delicious dining experience. We NEVER have a bad meal there, Jalapeno Tempura, Avacado Blast, Garlic Edamame, Hot Mamma Sushi Roll to name just a few of our favorite things. I love that they give you the option to have SOY PAPER on the Sushi wrap for those who are not fond of seaweed. Sharing a SAKE BOMB with friends is a fun way to wrap up an evening! It is so great to have such an upscale, trendy and first class restaurant here in Laramie, Wyoming.

  • Sef K.

Not bad; its not the best sushi, especially if you are used to big city sushi, but who would have guessed you would eat sushi in the middle of WY? The place itself is really nice to eat in so I would recommend this given the circumstances.

  • Katie G.

Mixed review here. Everytime I've gone to Mizu it's been super packed, which either speaks well of it or it's just the only sushi show in town. They don't serve your typical sushi rolls in that every roll seems to be based on their california roll/mayo mixture, however, they manage to make it interesting. I've mostly had a positive experience here until we brought a friend from out of town. It must have been a really busy night because the sashimi we ordered was still completely frozen. It was utterly unappetizing and not worth the money we shelled out. I'd rather be told they are out of everything than be served something inedible and have to pay a pretty penny for it.
