I was in town on business. This is certainly the best food in town. The staff are great and service was the best in town. Daily specials keep the menu fresh and mainstays like the steaks are always a solid choice.

Stopped here because we were camping next door at Sleeping Bear campground. For a busy Friday night we managed to get a table after only 10 minute wait. Excellent excellent New York Strip steak, cooked to perfection (medium). Twice baked potato was yummy. Wife and I shared one plate as portions were huge, though they charge $8.50 to split a plate but both people get salad and soup bar. Contrary to other poster, customer service was fantastic. Would definitely come back, and we are picky diners.

While visiting family in Lander, we decided to take our hosts out for a what was we hoped to be a good steak dinner to show our appreciation for their hospitality. We knew prices were high but we don't have a problem paying premium prices for good food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, we got neither at the Hitching Rack. The salad bar was small but we'll appointed and fresh - no complaints with it. The steaks though, while tender, had almost no flavor. The most disappointing part of the entire visit, however, occurred before our main course could even be delivered to our table - the power went out in the entire restaurant. This created a chain effect of warming temperatures (no AC with 80+ degree temps outside) and a dining room that quickly filled with smoke from the kitchen who's exhaust fans were no longer functioning. The light in the room was so low that I had to use my cell phone to check the color of my steak for "doneness". In addition, the interior bathrooms had no light. We had a lengthy wait for our bill (had to be hand-totaled due to no computers). And, because the credit card machines were down, we had no choice but to leave our CC number with the staff to be charged at a later date. When we asked for a duplicate receipt to have some sort of proof what was going to be charged to our card, we had another 5 minute wait in the warm, smoky dining room. Evidently there was no form of back up power generation or this entire situation could have been avoided. I can understand that the power outage may have been unavoidable. However, neither the waitress or the manager ever apologized for the inconvenience or offered to comp a drink or discount the bill in any way. We ended up paying $158+ (for a table of 4) for an experience that was truly disappointing. Not a great way to end our vacation in Lander.

Fantastic food and outstanding professional servers that can handle the crowd. I have never been disappointed here! The outdoor Patio is my favorite spot

This was my first time at the Hitching Rack, but I went with a few locals that said it would not disappoint. I was very impressed with my filet, I ordered it rare and it was cooked perfectly. Before sitting down for dinner, we spent some time in the bar area and the bartender was attentive and friendly. Overall, the Hitching Rack was great.

Been to a Wisconsin supper club? This is it, but with artsy wildlife photos on the walls instead of mounted fish. Basic food, well done, in a casual setting. Wine selection was not good, but nice choice of beer. Salad bar was standard but with better quality ingredients than most. And a pepper grinder with especially nice, fancy black pepper. My wife, a fried shrimp aficionado, liked hers, and my porterhouse pork chop was 2 in. thick, well seasoned and cooked to order. Not cheap, but reasonable value for quality food.

This is the best steakhouse in Lander. while expensive, they deliver. For dessert, try the Swedish Creme.

Stopped in while passing through Lander, the outside of the building isn't very attractive but do let that stop ya. The food all in all was good. The salad bar that they charge $6 for really wasn't a value. It actually kind of lacked in my eyes. The steak was really good, cooked a perfect medium-rare and a beautiful thick cut. Twice baked potatoes was good too but nothing to write home about. Thought the place was a little spendy but aren't all steak houses these days? I'll return someday.

My wife and I ate here a couple months ago and likely will never go back. The food is very expensive for what you get and the service we received was AWEFUL. It took over an hour to get our food, and then forever to get our check when we were finished. They also had run out of their special by 7 PM, WTH?

This is a hangout of a lady friend and I. The people are extremely friendly, and the food is really good.
