I had dinner with my wife and some of her family while vising Jackson Hole. We went there and at first I was very confused with the set up of the restaurant. Apparently we are supposed to order at the register then sit down, which wasn't apparent to me. We rushed to order and out food came out promptly. I made a good choice on my order of the al pastor burrito. It was served 'open face' with the tortilla unwrapped on the bottom of the bowl. The meat was fantastic, great flavor and crispy texture. The other ingredients were equally excellent; the guac, cilantro, rice and beans. Overall I was very impressed with the food, though the service/set-up of the restaurant could use some work.

My mahi burrito had zero flavor. do they know how to use salt? I guess beans f***ing grow with seasoning on them! The chunks of fish were too large. My boyfriend also complained about the size of his carnitas meat. Anything else I ordered would have been just as disappointing. Portion for price is pretty pathetic. One of the girls who worked there tried to give us the wrong order TWICE. "are you sure you didn't order this?" Pretty sure i'm aware of what I ordered. There were maybe 2 parties there without food and we had just gotten there. How hard can it be? She was very incompetent. She then decided to rinse her personal beverage containers at the sink right in front of us, and make herself a beverage while we were eating lunch. I know for a fact that there are sinks in the kitchen for employee use. PLEASE WAKE UP, USE YOUR BRAIN GIRL. It was awkward and unprofessional. I can't believe I ate there.

The margarita was bad and small. The carne asada quesadilla was mediocre. The black beans tasted like they are from the can. The rice was alright. The salsa was mainly tomato. You order at the cashier and find a seat. They will bring to food to you. Once you are finished eating, you bus your table. The dishes and trash go in wash tubs neat the bathrooms.

I thought this was an excellent laid back place to get Mexican with a twist to the food. It was Mexican but just a little better tempura fried instead of just fried. A hint of lime in the guac with chucks of salsa that gave the right amount of zing. I'm not sure why this scored lower. The owner seems very outgoing and nice.

There are very few stops between fast food and $30 entrees in Jackson, which makes Pica's a wonderful option. The food is fairly fresh and healthy. The town location is clean and bright. I like things with a bit more kick, so dumping on the homemade tomatillo salsa is a must for the tostada salad (without chicken since they started adding $$ for it), enchiladas, whole wheat chicken quesadilla to share or fish tacos. The margs are fresh lime and tequila, no sticky sweet mix and also strong (2's the limit). Dare I say the best marg in Jackson? yes. It's not California or Mexico, it's northwest Wyoming. But, it's also pretty darn good and reasonably priced (for Jackson) even with the recent Pica's price inflation.

Pica's is a great place to go when you're craving a good solid meal and a margarita. It's all "order and pay" first, which is really nice if you're on a budget and can't really do a huge dinner with friends where they split one big bill. It's also a nice style of dining because you don't have to tip a server. Consistent quality, great locations, (one at the base of Teton Pass, with an awesome deck,) and affordability makes pica's "the go to" for Jackson locals. Suggestion: Baja fish tacos and a salted marg. (you'll struggle to experiment with the menu after that)

Great Mexican dinner for the whole family, with a great margarita to boot. Casual enough to take the family, but full flavored great meals. Chicken enchilada and mahi taco were great.

The food didnt have that much flavor at all. The only way i tasted anything was when i added salt and hot sause. I was told the wet burrito was the most popular, if it was then i wouldn't want to taste their other food. I got this place from seeing it was #1 mexican food in town from a new paper artlical at bubas(which has amazing pulled pork) but was really disapointed. Also the prices where higher than i would have wanted to spend.

$1.50 beers. Yes please. The food, meh, not that great. It wasn't expensive, but while it was themed Mexican it wasn't what we were looking for when we went out for Mexican food. It was nice and clean inside.

There's a negative review below that I strongly recommend be ignored. It's by a person from Ohio who left a ravaging review, in which they seemed to infer that they are an authority on Mexican food, and folks in Jackson are anything but. Nonsense! I grew up in San Diego, I'm part Mexican, and I travel quite extensively. And though the Mexican food is good back home, I can't eat it often because it is so laden with fat and salt that it makes me feel awful afterward, and I like to treat my body well. In sharp contrast, Pica's is healthy and fresh with heaping helpings of awesomeness. The burritos are huge and very flavorful, the chilaquiles are perhaps the best I've ever had anywhere, they make an exceptional margarita (not from that nasty artificial sugary mix, mind you, but from squeezed limes), the music is good, the staff is friendly and the decor is comfortable, clean and modern. And there is vegetarian option for each menu item which, in sharp contrast to the bean burrito that veggies are often stuck with at Mexican food places, are tasty, hearty and nutrient-rich. I can't think of a bad thing to say about Pica's. Give it a try, I guarantee you will return.

TERRIBLE food. The food is extremely bland. I kept salting everything. Want to know what really pissed me off? The salsas weren't fresh. The pico de gallo was tasteless and too cold. The tomatillo salsa tasted old (and it was supposed to be spicy. It was the farthest thing from spicy). Taco Bell is better than this place. People who say this place is good doesn't know good Mexican or actually, good food at all. But then again, in Jackson Hole, there aren't too many Mexican places so they don't have much to compare it to.

Awesome and affordable Mexican food. Most dishes are about $7 and are gigantic. This is one of the best burritos I've had outside of California.

I've only had the Wet Burrito (about a zillion times), but mmm, mmm, yummy!!!

Pica's is one of the local's favs. It's more of a California style Mexican that is much healthier and has very fresh, organic ingredients. I've lived here for 8 years and my wife and I get Pica's 2-3 times a month at least. There are some things better than others but the quality is so much better than other mexican restaurants and it's such a good value. I don't know what happened with the last reviewer- that's really bizarre to me- she must have hit it at a very rare time. I have never had an experience like that and I've been there probably 200 times. There is nothing bland about any of the food there! The salsa has always been very fresh, the tomatillo salsa rocks and is the right amount of spicy-ness. I always get extra so I can use it on other dishes at home. The enchilladas are so good and their margaritas are superb. They also have a great torta sandwich for lunch. I won't say I'm as big a fan as their burritos but that's just me. For tacos...their tacos al pastor is so killer. They also have a hanger steak dinner that is worth the few extra bucks. Forget the last reviewer- go to Pica's when in Jackson and crave a more healthy, tasty form of Mexican food.

Love this place!! Jackson is a drive from Bozeman MT, but lured by the Tetons, and by Pica's, my fiance and I frequent this place as often as we can. The margaritas are amazing and the food is delicious. By far our favorite (after long days of hiking) are the wet burritos, with chips and guacamole. Until next time Pica's!

  • William F.

Great menu with a little Oaxaca influence, and a person at the grill preparing fresh tortillas. The portion on the $15 hangar steak was pretty slim, but was both good and interesting. Mole sauce passed the scrutiny of a highly qualified critic in our party, and the chips, while costing an extra $4, came with fresh pico de gallo. The presentation (other than the tortilla grill) is lacking, and at these prices, you should have to order at the counter Dairy Queen-style.

Great, tasty and affordable. If you have 3 or more, get the pitcher of margaritas. More than worth it. Good service, local hangout, laid back. I'm a huge fan of the fish tacos and smothering any burrito you get in green chile sauce. If you're looking for quick, easy and good food - come here.

Heard a lot about this place, so we were excited to try it. It's not what I would consider authentic Mexican, which I was disappointed to find out. We also had a group of 4, so we ordered a pitcher of margaritas. Sat down at the table to pour them and found an ant floating in the middle of it. Not the most appetizing way to start the meal... Overall just felt like the food fell flat for the price point.

We were looking for some Mexican fare after a long day of skiing and saw Pica's had a happy hour and margs. I like the feel of it, super casual, mostly clean. Great margaritas! I ordered the Baja style magi tacos, my husband ordered the burrito. I was extremely disappointed to find out that not only was the fish fried (my own fault for not asking), but absolutely tasteless. Worst taco ever, and that's saying a lot. My husband was disappointed with the size of the burrito and the fact there was no sides for the 9.50 or 10 bucks he paid. We might go for the margs but never again for food.

We tried a whole bunch of standards. All were pretty decent for resort food. There is only counter service, but they deliver the goods and you can eat outside. Also they have margaritas which my wife seemed to like just fine! I had the mole chicken which I liked though I have not had this dish for a while. Kids liked it too.

Last fall I tried Pica's because the parking lot was packed & so was the restaurant. Ordered a burrito & was disappointed by long wait-time (it's a taqueria not a full-service restaurant), dried out crunchy rice, and not at all impressed. But it was off season so thought maybe it was an off night. But tonight I thought I'd try it again- greeted by a sign in front "Guy Fieri was here, airs Aug 1st") - wow I thought, maybe I was wrong about this place, Food Network show here, must be good- place is packed, I'll give it another shot. I'd love to tell you how the burrito was, but after 30 minute wait time I got pissed off and asked where my food was (2nd time I had asked) to learn there was no ticket in for my order in the kitchen, but they'd put in a new ticket.. Burrito would be up in about 10 minutes. Sorry guys- 2x bad experience I'm out. Too bad, Jackson is desperate for good taqueria.. Sadly this guy (me) isn't going to be coming back for a 3rd bad experience. On positive side, chips and salsa were fresh & really good- too bad it wasn't given away if 20+ minute ticket times are typical.

Pica's is one of my favorite places; their food is great, margaritas are to die for and cheap. The food could use a little spice and for this I took one star off, but I guess there's hot sauce always available. Their meals are simple yet delicious! The seating outside is perfect and accompanied by little succulents to add a little zest to the decor.

Had a puya salad with chicken and the marinated shrimp tacos with 2 margaritas. Cost about $35. Not worth it. Food was well cooked but very bland. Margaritas were tiny. Customer service was sketchy. Water glasses are available with a water spigot, but if you want ice, you need to ask for it. If the water is self serve, ice should be also. This was our first and last visit to Pica's.

I visited Pica based on a recommendation, but left a little underwhelmed. I'd never heard of a burrito being served "open face", but went for it since the girl taking my order said that was the usual way they did it. I probably will just have the cook wrap it for me next time I'm given the option. The food, in general, was ok. As other reviewers have written, there is no service besides the person taking your order and the person who brings you your food, but apparently that's what should be expected from a taqueria.

Visited this little place on the way to Grand Teton NP, with kids it can be difficult to find a place that is accommodating and welcoming to them, we felt like we made a good choice from the moment we walked into Pica's. The service was great! Environment was clean and spacious, and above all, the food was excellent! The drunken beans in the nacho were perfect. Will definitely come back if I find myself in that area of the world.

Friendly and attentive service with a great menu. The food came out quick and it was great! Carnita taco was really good and mahi grilled tacos were good. We would go back again and try more items.

  • Michele N.

Oh my, I don't even know where to start! How about with a margarita, they are awesome...and strong! The margaritas need to be accompanied by the guacamole and salsa; we always order the half and half, yummy. I love the fish tacos here; fresh fish and simply dressed and served with black beans and rice. My hubby enjoyed a carnitas burrito; they are not for those who don't like their burritos big! The restaurant is well-suited for children and they have a great patio that is dog friendly too. This is the perfect place to come for a quick, delicious meal or to hang out with friends and family and enjoy margaritas, beer and great food! Take out is quick and reliable too.

Food was difficult to choke down. They don't know what they are doing with mexican food. No authenticity.

Best Mexican in town. The margs are delicious and strong, yummy grilled shrimp tacos and burritos, quesadillas are equally tasty. Order chips and salsa for the wait. Out door seating in the summer!

Had dinner at this place . Food was NOT the best. (1) it took 2 minutes before the cashier acknowledged me to greet me - I was standing in front of her .(2) cashier did not know much about their menu. Her excuse was " I'm new here". 3) My child had a shrimp plate & no where in the menu it said it was spicy. When I asked to exchange it they refuse to exchange it because she had already taken a bite. Seriously !?! Where they thinking of selling it to someone else ? It was a huge disappointment & definitely not the best Mexican food.

I stopped in, hoping for real Mexican food (as opposed to chain- style fast food). instead, I got flavorless tacos (on cold single corn tortillas, instead of street style warm, double corn tortillas), "spanish" rice (which obviously was made minute-rice style) and cold black beans. Over-priced, not authentic and clearly not restaurant style. the service was sub par.

We ordered party platters for a party of ten. The food was delicious and fed more people than we expected. Staff very responsive and easy to work with. Couldn't have asked for more.

Terrible service. They kept getting our order wrong and the employees acted like they were inconvenienced when we asked for the right thing. Won't come here again.

Very disappointing from the minute we walked in the door. Would it kill the two young "servers" to smile, offer water, utensils, clean the tables, ask how the meal is? What attitudes! The menu looked interesting, but the taste of the shrimp tacos was average at best. And what's up with the cold tortilla served with the open faced burrito? Who was paid to give this place the best Mexican food in Jackson award? Oh one last thing, no offer of chips and salsa for free or purchase, yet nearby diners had somehow 'score' some. With no service, there was no tip!

I'm a bit mystified by some of the lower rating reviews here, because knowing this restaurant, they've posted some details that mean they must have confused this restaurant with one or two others in town. One: there is no tomatillo salsa at Pica's. Two: the order counter is the first thing you see when you walk in the front door. Three: they don't serve a fajita plate. Four: the margarita's are not small; they're in a standard 8-oz. glass and they're yummy and filled to the brim -- consistently. Favorite dishes include the pasilla quesadilla, chicken quesadilla, burrito, conchinita pibil, carnitas, and the posole soup. Good chips that are better with the pico de gallo and guacamole you can order. Quick to-go or eat in, or better, eat outside at one of the patio tables. Service can be a little sketchy depending on who's at the register. If you like wine with your Mexican food, you can bring your own bottle.

  • Brock G.

This place is double the price of what it should be and HALF the FLAVOR. The beans and rice have NO flavor to them IT is really a bummer b/c it has so much potential. Wish the owners would go eat at Chipotle so they would know how good it COuld be.

I can't complain about Pica's. As I mentioned in a few other reviews, finding relatively cheap food in the Jackson, WY area isn't an easy task, unless you're okay with eating at Wendy's or McDonald's. You order and pay at the counter, the first thing you see after walking in, then sit down; they deliver the food to you. We got the tortilla soup and each of us got a burrito. The burritos are huge, tasty, and filling. I'd be pretty surprised if you didn't have to take some of it home to finish later. The tortilla soup had a nice spice to it, and was a nice complement to the meal. Okay, this isn't a luxury restaurant with silver spoons and whatnot. But whatever, it's got good food that isn't too expensive, and will fill you. Sometimes that all you need.

Very low budget place, but friendly [they replaced the lager I was mistakenly given for the ale I had ordered]. Order at the cash register and food brought to table. Shrimp tacos tasty, but companion's chile rellenos didn;t make the grade.

  • Jason L.

I eat at Pica's regularly and believe it is one of the best restaurants in Jackson for the price point. Food is fresh with lots of flavor. I've enjoyed every meal I've tried, which is most of the menu. Favorites include chile rellanos, pollo enchiladas, and baja fish tacos. If quantity is more important than quality - try somewhere else. If you like good food in proper portions, enjoy!

  • Rob W.

I love Pica's. It's nothing like a typical Mexican restaurant -- it has clean modern decor, no mariachi music blaring, and most importantly the food is delicious and fresh. The style is quite different to mainstream Mexican food - far more interesting and fresher. Highly recommended.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
